If the wind comes from the Kun direction, it indicates that pests will damage the seedlings and that there will be a lot of water in the following year. If the wind comes from the Dui direction, it indicates that there will be a lot of rain in the autumn of that year and that large-scale military actions will arise.

The eight reverse winds: When the season is the time of Li Xia (beginning of summer), the trigram Xun (Wind) is in command, but if the prevailing wind comes from the Qian (Heaven) direction, it is called "one reverse," indicating minor misfortune; when the season is Li Qiu (beginning of autumn), the trigram Kun (Earth) is in command, but if the prevailing wind comes from the Gen (Mountain) direction, it is called "three reverses," indicating the cutting off of descendants; when the season is Li Chun (beginning of spring), the trigram Gen (Mountain) is in command, but if the prevailing wind comes from the Kun (Earth) direction, it is called "two reverses," indicating the outbreak of military conflict; when the season is Li Dong (beginning of winter), the trigram Qian (Heaven) is in command, but if the prevailing wind comes from the Xun (Wind) direction, it is called "four reverses," indicating the people abandoning their homes and villages; when the season is Qiufen (autumn equinox), the trigram Dui (Lake) is in command, but if the prevailing wind comes from the Zhen (Thunder) direction, it is called "five reverses," indicating someone wielding a knife entering the market to commit violence; when the season is Dongzhi (winter solstice), the trigram Kan (Water) is in command, but if the prevailing wind comes from the southern and southernly direction of Li (Fire), it is called "six reverses," indicating the people scattering and fleeing; when the season is Xiaozhi (summer solstice), the trigram Li (Fire) is in command, but if the prevailing wind comes from the northern and northernly direction of Kan (Water), it is called "seven reverses," indicating rebellion by ministers; when the season is Chunfen (spring equinox), the trigram Zhen (Thunder) is in command, but if the prevailing wind comes from the western and westernly direction of Dui (Lake), it is called "eight reverses," indicating an assassin appearing in the palace. Divination in the eighth十三th position concerning the dwelling place and the path of the way.

Meeting a whirlwind blowing from the south on the road indicates a meeting with food and drink. If the time is in the hour of You, and the whirlwind covers the person, it will be beneficial for everyone. But if the whirlwind rises locally and blows directly where one is sitting, the gentleman will lose his position and the petty person will lose money. (The same reasoning applies to other directions.)

On the day of the Shang tone, a wind blows through the palace and courtyard, indicating that someone will bring wine and meat, and this will come true within three days. On the day of the Jue tone, a whirlwind surrounds a person, indicating illness; if the wind comes from the Jue direction, it signifies death. On the day of the Zheng tone, a whirlwind surrounds a person, indicating disputes and lawsuits; if the wind comes from the Zheng direction, there should be strict vigilance against fire in the house.

On the day of the Palace tone, a whirlwind blows within the palace, courtyard, or residence, indicating disputes, lawsuits, imprisonment, or official matters. If the wind rises on the road and blows outward from inside, rising straight up, it is auspicious. On the day of the Shang tone, a whirlwind surrounds a person, indicating loss of money or misplacement of items, caused by being deceived by others. On the day of the Yu tone, a whirlwind surrounds a person, indicating damage to property, or worries arising from food and drink matters, and also indicating gatherings that offend superiors.

A whirlwind arising within a palace or courtyard, if calculated by the Six Emotions to be at the time of "Wang" (Dominance), "Xiang" (Prosperity), or in a flourishing condition, is called "having qi" and is auspicious. If the wind is clear and mild, it is also favorable. If it is "without qi," one should be cautious and prepared. A whirlwind that comes from two sides, enclosing a path or following a person, is a double blessing. If a whirlwind persists for a long time without stopping, it does not cause any other harm. However, if the wind comes from a malevolent direction, it is ominous. If the wind comes from the "Xing" (刑, Punishment) position, and it coincides with the day of Tanlang (Star of Romance and Desire), Yin Ze (Hidden Evil), or Jianxie (Cunning and Deceit), and it is not coming from its "De" (Benevolence) position, then it signifies the gathering of many evils, and disaster is certain. If the wind comes from the "Xiu" (Rest) position, or if it coincides with a day of宽容 (Leniency and Generosity), the matter will be resolved and will not lead to disaster.

On the day of the Palace tone (宫音), if a whirlwind strikes a person, one should be cautious about matters concerning fields and property, worry about moving house or relocating, or getting involved in legal disputes over land and houses. If encountered while traveling, it is unfavorable for those living away from home. However, if the wind blows outward, it is auspicious, indicating the presence of authority and power. On the day of the Horn tone (角音), if a whirlwind strikes a person, one should be cautious about illness or matters involving crying. Otherwise, it may lead to injuries from conflicts with others.

On days of the Shang tone, whirlwinds strike people, warning of disputes over money, or injuries from falling from heights while entering mountains or forests. On days of the Zheng tone, whirlwinds strike people, warning of lawsuits, burdens from documents, or ominous events and loss of metal objects. On days of the Yu tone, whirlwinds strike people, warning of people drowning, loss of clothes and money, and gatherings of people, numbering over a thousand.

Observing within a palace or residence: if a sudden wind arises, or a whirlwind occurs, or dogs and birds cry out towards a person, or sounds emerge within the residence, the divination proceeds by first examining the five tones, then the six emotions, followed by the states of King, Minister, Rest, Captivity, and the influences of刑 and 德. This determines whether the outcome is cause for worry or joy. If the wind comes from the 德 position, it indicates good fortune; if from the 刑 position, it signifies worry. If the day branch is in the state of 囚 or 死 but overcomes the influence of the hour, it portends misfortune. If the wind originates and stops in a broad position, it suggests rewards of food and drink. If it is in the state of 无气, it indicates that affairs will scatter and fail. If a whirlwind enters the house and blows clothes into the air, one should be concerned about loss of property and alarm from fire.

On the day of the Shang tone, if the hour falls in a broad position, and the wind blows from the Jue position and then stops, this is called 'waste', indicating secret misconduct by guests. If the wind starts outside the door and blows into the house, stopping at the Shang position, the interpretation is the same. If the hour falls in a position of deceit, the deceit will not be discovered; if it falls in one of the 'six correct' positions, the deceit will be discovered. On the day of the Shang tone, if the hour falls in Shen, and the wind comes from the Wei position, swirling into the house until near the hall, it indicates the eldest son stealing. If the swirling wind enters the well, it indicates a woman committing adultery and planning to conspire with an outsider to kill her husband. On the day of Yin Zhe, if the hour falls in Zi, and the wind comes from the position of deceit and stops at the Yin Zhe position, it indicates women committing secret acts and intending to deceive their husbands. On the Xinchou day, if the hour falls in Wu, and the wind starts in the house from the Wu position, it indicates a gathering with wine and food three days after the wind. On the day of Deceit, if the hour falls in the position of deceit, and it is accompanied by 'captivity', 'death', and decline, it indicates someone stealing servants; if the wind moves and stops at You position, it indicates someone taking away property. If the wind is cold and severe, there will be some harm.

Within a palace or courtyard, or when a group of people are walking together on the road, if a violent wind rushes into the crowd, then among these people there must be someone whose five tones match the sound of the wind, and their joy or sorrow will correspond to this person. On a day with the Shang tone, the day branch's energy surpasses the energy of the hour, and the wind comes from the position of the Hour of You, being pure Shang tone, indicating that there is a monster harming people. On a day with the Shang tone, if the wind rises and is purely the Jue tone, it indicates that an evil ghost has entered the house to harm people.

The day branch carries the "Wang" energy, which relates to the government; wind coming from the "Wang" position relates to the head of the family; wind from the "Xiang" position relates to the descendants; wind from the "Xiu" or "Fei" positions relates to guests; wind from the "Qiu" or "Si" positions relates to those of low status; if the emotion of Tanlang is present, it relates to bandits and thieves. The rest should be interpreted in a similar way. Furthermore, according to the directions within the house, the western hall relates to the father, the eastern hall relates to the mother, the sides of the main hall relate to the eldest son, the inner chamber relates to women, the courtyard relates to gatherings, the walls relate to the youngest son, the well and stove relate to servants and slaves, and the gate relates to guests.

When encountering a sudden strong whirlwind while walking or sitting, if it suddenly blows in one's face coming directly towards them, this is a wind coming against the person, indicating that one should not proceed further, as there may be an ambush ahead. If the wind follows behind and blows towards the person, this is a wind trailing the person, indicating a warning. In such cases, one should again use the principle of all sixes to determine whether to go left or right. Similarly, if the wind suddenly arises within the courtyard, or blows in from outside, or lifts the person's clothes, or lifts the roof of their house, these all indicate ominous and dangerous events.

Another method of matching is: the north hall corresponds to the father, the west hall to the mother, the east hall to the son, and the south hall to the grandchildren, all relating to gatherings of people. If the wind arises by the wall, it corresponds to young members of the family; if by the well and stove, it corresponds to women; if by the gate and entrance, it corresponds to the eldest son; if in the guest hall, it corresponds to outsiders; if by the mortar and mill, it corresponds to servants; if within the courtyard, it corresponds to neighbors. Then, according to the five tones, one can determine the surname and name of the person involved; according to the time and day branch when the wind arises, one can distinguish the person's age; according to the strength or weakness of the day stem (yang stems are strong, yin stems are weak), one can judge whether the person is old or young; and according to whether the person is in the "king" or "minister" phase of prosperity, one can determine if the person is an official.

Whenever a whirlwind stops in front of a person, the time of occurrence is determined by the sound of the hour; if the wind blows past the person from behind, the time is determined by the sound of the day. For example, if the sound of the day is 'Jue', the time of occurrence is the ninth day. If the wind comes from the burial direction of the person's birth year, it indicates illness. Using the day to calculate is the same. If the burial direction is in the wood area, it indicates falling from a height or being injured by trees; if in the fire area, it indicates burns or blood-related incidents; if in the earth area, it indicates sores or swellings; if in the metal area, it indicates fighting injuries; if in the water area, it indicates drowning or being crushed to death.

Wind coming from the position of the dead of the day indicates illness; coming from the position of the annual punishment indicates matters concerning the government; coming from the position of the monthly punishment indicates being summoned by officials such as county magistrates or local town offices; coming from the position of the daily punishment indicates a warning of being brought to the court for disputes or lawsuits; coming from the position of the hourly punishment indicates sudden urgent matters; coming from the position of the daily virtue indicates celebration with wine and food. Any wind coming from the virtuous position of one's birth year indicates good fortune and joy. The method of interpretation for the annual virtue, monthly virtue, daily virtue, and hourly virtue is the same. For example: if one's birth year is in the wood district, wooden objects will be brought from the north; if in the fire district, bronze and ceramic objects will be brought from the east; if in the earth district, property and land-related items will be brought from the south; if in the metal district, wealth will be brought in the months of辰, 戌, 丑, and 未; if in the water district, meat, wine, and livestock will be brought from the west.

When the day branch falls on the first of the four groups (寅, 申, 巳, 亥), and the wind comes from the position of the first group, it indicates concern for senior officials being dismissed. When the day branch falls on the second of the four groups (子, 午, 卯, 酉), and the wind comes from the position of the second group, it indicates concern for middle-level officials being dismissed. When the day branch falls on the third of the four groups (辰, 戌, 丑, 未), and the wind comes from the position of the third group, it indicates concern for lower-level officials being dismissed. If the day's sound corresponds to the metal tone and the hour falls on the metal position, the corresponding object is money and ironware. If the day's sound corresponds to the fire tone and the hour falls on the fire position, the corresponding object is documents and clothing. If the day's sound corresponds to the water tone and the hour falls on the water position, the corresponding object is food and drink. If the day's sound corresponds to the wood tone and the hour falls on the wood position, the corresponding object is wood products and clothing. If the day's sound corresponds to the earth tone and the hour falls on the earth position, the corresponding object is meat and wine for feasting, or leather. If the situation is in the "king" or "minister" phase of strength, the corresponding object is fine and good. If the situation is in the "rest" or "waste" phase of decline, the corresponding object is broken and inferior.

If several people are traveling or sitting together and a whirlwind comes face to face with them, how can one know which person it will affect? If the wind belongs to the Shang tone, it will affect the person with the Shang surname; if it is a day of the same tone, select the person whose birth year matches the tone. If it is a day of the first quarter, select the person who is older or younger accordingly; if it is a Shang tone day, select the person wearing white clothes; if the day branch is in the "Wang" or "Xiang" (sovereign or minister) phase, select the person whose status is high or low accordingly. On a yang day, select a man or the person standing on the left; on a yin day, select a woman or the person standing on the right, with left and right corresponding accordingly. Then use the five tones to check the clothing or the objects held by the people, and based on this determination, one can know which person will be affected by good or bad fortune.

Whenever the Five Phases and the twelve earthly branches are involved in wind, as soon as the five tones are activated, signs of misfortune or fortune become apparent. If the wind is not strong enough to overturn houses, break trees, or raise sand and stones, then even if it is an ominous sign, it will not have a major effect. In general, the day branch's nayin is considered the 'guest', for example, Jiazi and Yichou have nayin belonging to the Shang tone. The wind's origin, according to its five tones, is considered the 'host', for example, the Zi position and the Wu position belong to the Gong tone. For instance, if today is Jiawu, with nayin belonging to Shang, if one wishes for the host to win, the wind should come from the Yin, Chou, Wei, or Shen positions, then the host will win. The guest is Shang tone, and if it moves to the Zheng position, it becomes the guest. In summary, the day's nayin should be able to control the tone of the wind. For example, Jiazi has nayin belonging to metal, and the day is the guest. If the wind comes from the Si or Hai positions, then the guest will win.

Eighty-Fifth Section: Interpretations of Divination on Military Affairs

When the wind arises from the position of the徵 and originates from the徵 position, military affairs will soon disperse. If it occurs on a day of broadness or integrity, the wind coming from the broadness position indicates a large-scale dispersal of troops. Also, if the wind comes from all four directions, it also signifies the dispersal of military forces. Whenever winds indicating military matters arise, if they occur on a day of the 商 tone, and the wind comes from the position of the Star of Romance and Desire or the position of hidden malevolence, with the hour falling on the position of wickedness, and the day branch also belongs to 商, with the sky appearing white and turbid and accompanied by haze, continuing for three or seven days, it indicates that bandits will gather in groups and attack cities and towns, which will come to pass within a month. (The timing for the following items is the same as above.)

How can one know that a large army is coming and will attack at night? Usually, during the noon, the wind comes from the亥and子directions. At night the wind rises, but stops during the day. If the cold air does not dissipate at noon, then it is certain that the attack will be at night, and they will not avoid rain or wind. The commander should be cautious and prepared, and this will not happen within five or ten days. On days with a 商音, if the wind suddenly rises in the middle of the night and thick fog does not clear until noon, this indicates the beginning of military action.

After the Beginning of Spring, if on the first month there is a Wushen day, on the second month a Jiyou day, and on the third month a Gengxu day, and there is a strong wind blowing from the west for seven consecutive days, it indicates that military conflicts will arise from the west. The conflict will be significant before the month that is opposite to this one. After the Beginning of Summer, if on the fourth month there is an Xinhai day, on the fifth month a Renzi day, and on the sixth month a Guichou day, and there is a strong wind blowing from the west for seven consecutive days, it indicates that military conflicts will arise from the north. After the beginning of autumn, if on the seventh month the Heavenly Stem is Jiayin, on the eighth month Yimao, and on the ninth month Bingchen, and there is a violent wind blowing from the west that lasts for seven consecutive days, it indicates that military conflicts will arise in the east. If the conflict does not occur in the month that is in opposition to this, it will be significant. After the beginning of winter, if on the tenth month the Heavenly Stem is Yisi, on the eleventh month Bingwu, and on the twelfth month Dingwei, and there is a violent wind blowing from the west that lasts for seven consecutive days, it indicates that military conflicts will arise in the south. If the conflict does not occur in the month that is in opposition to this, it will be significant.

Various winds indicating the enemy forces will fight among themselves: during the months of the four seasons, if the wind comes from the Yin贼 position on the day of the horn sound, and the weather is extremely cold, it indicates the enemy troops will fight among themselves, and this will happen within nine days. Various winds indicating the rebellion of the夷狄: On days of deceit and righteousness with the Nayin element belonging to Shang, a strong wind blows from the position of deceit and righteousness, indicating the夷狄 will attack the border posts. If the wind lasts for ten days without stopping, the enemy comes from a thousand miles away; if it lasts for twenty days without stopping, the enemy comes from three thousand miles away; the fulfillment of the prophecy will occur within seventy days. If it is a seasonal day with the Nayin element belonging to Gong, and the wind blows from the position of generosity or from the seasonal position, then the夷狄 will come to surrender.

Various winds indicating hidden troops: there is a whirlwind blowing from the Three Punishments and Five Tombs positions, indicating hidden troops ahead, one should not engage in battle, for if battle is engaged, victory will not be achieved; those walking should quickly leave, and those sitting should rise to avoid. Whenever troops march out or military operations take place, if a strong wind blows from the Three Punishments position, the enemy forces are overwhelming; if the strong wind arises from the Five Tombs position, it is auspicious to avoid. This will be verified within three or four days. Whenever military campaigns or naval battles occur, if a strong wind blows from the Three Punishments position, the enemy forces are again overwhelming; if the strong wind arises from the Five Tombs position, it is auspicious to avoid.

Various winds indicating rebellion: winds that are strong and rising from all directions at once, or winds that rush down from above to the ground, are all contrary winds. If such winds arise in the morning, they indicate rebellion by the common people; if they arise at breakfast time, they indicate rebellion by guests; if they arise at noon, they indicate rebellion by the imperial relatives; if they arise at the hour of Shen, they indicate rebellion by the ministers; if they arise at dusk, they indicate rebellion by servants; if they arise in the middle of the night, they indicate rebellion by the same surname clan; if they arise at the time of the rooster's crow, they indicate rebellion by the empress. These all indicate major calamities, which will occur within thirty days. If the wind stops and rain falls within three days, the calamity can be averted.

Eighty-sixth Section: On the Wind in the City of Entrapment

On the day of the Palace tone, a strong wind blows suddenly from the Angle position, indicating that the city will be surrounded by troops. If the wind continues to blow and breaks trees at noon or during the night, the city will certainly fall, either within nine days or eighteen days. On the day of the Feather tone, a heavy and murky wind arises, with no sunlight and dense fog, indicating that the city will be surrounded by troops, with the opposing side victorious over the defending side.

On the day of the musical note "Jiao," if the hour falls in Zi or Wu, and the wind comes from the Jiao direction, it will break the trees, indicating the outbreak of military actions. There will certainly be an army surrounding the city and stationed nearby. The defending side should send out troops to fight. This situation is expected to occur within nine days.

If the day is in the season of Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei and the nayin sound element belongs to Shang, a strong wind breaks the trees, blowing from the direction of the four seasons. If the time is at Zi or Wu, it indicates that the people from outside the territory become bandits, gathering in groups, fighting with each other everywhere, blocking the passes and bridges, and cutting off the roads, which will happen within seventy days. If on the day of the four seasons the nayin sound element belongs to Shang, and the wind blows from the direction of the four seasons, with the time at Zi or Wu, it indicates that the enemy troops entering the territory will fight among themselves, which will happen within thirty days.

On the day of the Shang yin tone, a strong wind breaks the trees, and the time falls on Zi or Wu. The wind blows from the Zi or Wu direction, and the sunlight is dim and unclear, which is unfavorable for the main direction. The army will collapse from within, and the city cannot be defended. It will happen within ninety days, or thirty days. On a day of奸邪 (evil ministers), if the Nayin sound element belongs to the palace, a strong wind blows from the palace position or from the four seasonal positions, and the weather is extremely cold. The city gate is opened at night, and the soldiers of the chief official scatter and run out, unable to be stopped. The event will occur within seventy days, or up to ninety days.

There are various methods to determine the number of bandits and to predict where they will emerge. First, calculate the number of bandits based on the initial occurrence of the wind. Then determine the month of verification by the direction the wind comes from. Next, measure the distance by the earthly branch that the wind follows. Finally, determine the number of bandits again based on the time when the wind stops, using the heavenly stem and earthly branch of that hour. For example, if the wind begins at the hour of Zi, the number of bandits is either ninety or nine, and the verification period also relates to the number nine. If the prediction does not come true by the appointed time, then within the same hour, double the number according to the month. If the wind is accompanied by the "Wang" (sovereign) energy, multiply the number by ten; if by the "Xiang" (minister) energy, multiply by five; if by the "Fu" (hidden) or "Fei" (wasteful) energies, use the original number. (The method of predicting based on bird calls is similar.)

Wind from the position of punishment brings punishment, evil affairs, danger, and military matters. Those walking should hurry to leave, and those sitting should hurry to rise. Wind from the Five Tombs position indicates a凶兆, which is ominous. If there is a sign of salvation, it is auspicious; if there is no such sign, it is inauspicious.
