The Twenty-Fifth Divination on the Wanderer Star

歲星，一名攝提。東方木德，靈威仰之使，蒼龍之精也。其性仁，其事□，其時春，其日甲乙，其辰寅卯，其音角，其數八，其帝太昊，其神句芒，其蟲鱗，其味酸，其臭羶，卦在震巽，人主之象。主道德之事，故人君仁也。其常體大而清明潤澤，所在之宿國分大吉。

The Star of Years, also called SheTi, is the star of the Eastern Wood virtue. It is the messenger of Lingweiying, the celestial emperor of the East, and is formed from the essence of the Azure Dragon. Its nature is benevolence, and the affairs it governs are missing one character in the original text. It corresponds to the season of spring, the days of Jia and Yi, the earthly branches of Yin and Mao, the tone of Jue, the number eight, the deity Taihao, the god Guomang, the class of scaled creatures, the taste of sour, the scent of smoky fragrance, and the trigrams Zhen and Xun. It symbolizes the sovereign. It oversees moral matters, thus corresponding to the benevolence of the ruler. Its normal form is large, clear, and moist. The state corresponding to the star mansion where it resides is highly auspicious.

《易傳》曰：帝王人君行道德，德至仁利，則歲星明大潤澤；明大潤澤，則人君昌壽，民富樂，中國安，四夷服。人君行酷虐殘暴，則歲星時時暗小微昧，微昧則國亡君死。是故星明則主明，星暗則主暗。人君從諫，則歲星如度，人君聽諛佞，拒忠諫，則歲星亂行。故歲星變色亂行，人君無福；進退如度，則奸邪止息。

The *Yi Zhuan* says: When a king or sovereign practices virtue and morality, and his benevolence and benefits reach their full extent, the star of the year (Jupiter) becomes bright and expansive, and its light is moist and nourishing. When the star of the year is bright and expansive with moist and nourishing light, the sovereign will flourish and live long, the people will be wealthy and content, the central regions will be peaceful, and the surrounding barbarian tribes will submit. But when a sovereign practices cruel and tyrannical rule, the star of the year becomes dim, small, and obscure. When it is obscure, it indicates the country's downfall and the sovereign's death. Therefore, when the star is bright, it signifies the sovereign's clarity and discernment; when the star is dim, it signifies the sovereign's ignorance and confusion. If the sovereign listens to advice and counsel, the star of the year follows its regular course. But if the sovereign believes in flattery and rejects sincere advice, the star of the year will deviate from its regular path. Thus, when the star changes color and moves erratically, it indicates the sovereign lacks fortune; when the star advances and retreats in accordance with its regular course, evil deeds will cease.

猶如木之曲直，從繩則正；人君性習，從諫則聖矣。人君令合於時，則歲星光喜，年穀登；人君暴怒失其理，則歲星有芒角而怒矣。歲星怒則兵起，有所攻伐矣。歲星所在之分，不可攻之，攻之則反受其殃矣。

This is like wood that is bent or straight; following the measure of the ink line allows it to be properly shaped. A ruler's nature and habits, if he listens to advice, can become a sage. When a ruler's decrees are appropriate, the star of the year shines brightly and the harvest is abundant. But if the ruler becomes enraged and loses his composure, the star of the year will show anger with a bright horn. When the star of the year shows anger, it indicates the rise of military affairs and the occurrence of attacks. The region where the star of the year is located should not be attacked; attacking it will bring calamity upon oneself.

秦之將亡也，歲星聚於東井。東井，秦之分野，秦政殘暴失政，歲星仁和之理違。歲星貌恭，恭作肅，不肅之道，拒諫信讒，是故二世君終於屠滅。漢高之入秦也，修德佈政仁和，約法三章，與民更始，除秦暴酷，故秦人欣戴焉，卒入三秦之漢中而基王業也。項羽後入，焚燒宮室，殘暴楚毒，失仁之福，卒於敗亡。

When the Qin dynasty was about to perish, the star of the year gathered in the Well mansion. The Well mansion is the territory corresponding to the state of Qin. The Qin dynasty was tyrannical and lost its way in governance, thus violating the principle of the star of the year, which represents kindness and harmony. The star of the year governs a dignified appearance, and dignity leads to solemnity. The absence of solemnity means rejecting advice and believing in slander, so the king Qin Ershi eventually met his demise. When Han Gaozu entered the territory of Qin, he cultivated virtue and practiced benevolent and harmonious governance, making three simple laws with the people and allowing them to start anew, removing the harshness and cruelty of the Qin dynasty. Therefore, the people of Qin welcomed him gladly, and he eventually occupied the three Qins and established his imperial foundation from Hanzhong. Later, Xiang Yu entered the territory of Qin, burned the palaces, was cruel and fierce, and lost the blessings brought by virtue, ultimately leading to his downfall.

是故人君順其時，處其分，宜布其德，而修其政也。歲星所在處有仁德者，天之所佑也。不可攻，攻之必受其殃。利以稱兵，所向必克也。

Therefore, the sovereign should follow the heavenly timing, maintain his proper position, widely spread virtue, and properly manage state affairs. If there are people practicing benevolence in the area where the star of years is located, it is protected by heaven and should not be attacked; attacking will surely bring calamity. Conversely, if a state located in the area of the star of years launches an attack, it will be advantageous, and their military campaigns will surely succeed.

歲星木精，其時春也。人君春時，當順少陽德令。天子率百官，制法度，當佈德和令，施惠下及兆民，無有不當。順天象，授民時，祈嘉穀，教新卒，布農合，修封疆，相地宜，以導民，躬必親之。

The Star of Years is the vital energy of wood, corresponding to the season of spring. The sovereign in spring should follow the virtue of the Lesser Yang, which promotes growth. The Son of Heaven should lead the officials in establishing laws and regulations, widely spreading virtue, harmonizing the government's decrees, and bestowing kindness upon all the people, ensuring nothing is inappropriate. He should follow the heavenly signs, announce the farming seasons to the people, pray for abundant harvests of good grain, train new soldiers, arrange agricultural tasks, repair boundaries, and observe the suitable crops for the land to guide the people. These matters must be personally attended to by the Son of Heaven.

命賜司典，止殘伐，毋覆巢，毋殺胎天飛鳥，毋鏖卵，毋聚大眾，毋置城郭，掩骼埋胔，不稱兵，兵戎不起，不可以從我始，毋逆天之道，毋絕地之理，毋亂人之紀。

Order and instruct the officials in charge of rituals and regulations: prohibit the cutting down of trees and the destruction of nests, prohibit the killing of pregnant animals and young birds, prohibit the destruction of bird eggs, prohibit gathering large crowds, prohibit building city walls and fortifications; instead, bury exposed bones and decaying flesh, and refrain from waging war. Military actions must not be initiated, especially not by our side. Do not defy the way of Heaven, do not sever the principles of the Earth, and do not disrupt the order of human society.

仲春養幼少，存孤獨，省囹圄，去桎梏，毋肆掠，止獄訟，同律度，正權量，無作大事以妨農事，無竭川澤，無漉陂池，無焚山林，命出而不納。

In the second month of spring, nurture the young, care for orphans and the elderly, reduce imprisonment, remove instruments of punishment, prohibit excessive torture, and cease litigation. Standardize the musical scale and measurements, correct the weights and measures. Do not initiate large-scale public works that hinder farming, do not exhaust the resources of rivers and lakes, do not drain the water from ponds, and do not burn forests. Once decrees are issued, they should be carried out without being revoked.

天子佈德行惠，發倉廩，賜貧窮，賑乏絕，開府庫，出穀帛，賜天下，勉諸侯，聘名士，禮賢者，止弋獵，無悖於時，無淫巧以蕩上心，則歲星無變而降福矣。

The heavenly sovereign widely spreads virtue and kindness, opens granaries to relieve the poor, and rescues those who have run out of food and have no one to turn to. He opens the treasury, distributes grain and silk throughout the land, encourages the feudal lords, employs renowned scholars, and honors the virtuous. He stops hunting, does not violate the seasons, and forbids the use of strange techniques and deceitful tricks that might disturb the sovereign's mind. If these are done, the planet Jupiter will not show abnormal signs, but instead will bring down blessings.

失令非時，行夏令，則熒惑之氣干，則星變赤芒角，國大旱暖氣，是哀蟲螟為害食，人民疾疫，時雨降，山陵不收，風雨不時，旱木早落，邦時有恐，中國寇戎來征。

If government policies are improper and not in harmony with the seasons, and if summer policies are implemented in spring, then the planet Mars will disturb, the planet Jupiter will turn red and develop apointed rays, indicating a great drought and abnormal warmth in the country; lamentably, the locusts will plague and devour the crops, and the people will suffer from epidemics; even if timely rain falls, the mountainous areas will still have no harvest, the winds and rains will lose their regularity, the drought will cause trees to shed leaves too early, and the country will be constantly in fear, with foreign invaders coming to attack from the Central Plains.

行秋令，則太白之氣干之，星白無光，寒氣大至，民大疫，飄風暴雨總至，藜莠蓬蒿並與，天多陰沉淫雨早降。行冬令，則辰星氣干之，星變黑小，水澇為敗，雪霜大至，首種不入，陽不收，麥不熟，民多相撓，寒氣時發，草木皆肅，國有大水。

In the spring season, if the policies of autumn are implemented, then the qi of Tai Bai will interfere, the star of the Year will appear pale and lack luster, indicating a great surge of cold qi, widespread epidemic diseases among the people, and storms and heavy rains coming together. Weeds such as lespedeza, barnyard grass, cocklebur, and mugwort will proliferate and spread widely, with the sky often dark and continuous rain falling early. In the spring season, if the policies of winter are implemented, then the qi of Chen Star will interfere, the star of the Year will become dark and small, indicating flooding and disaster, with heavy snow and frost falling in large amounts. The first sown crops will not be able to be planted, yang qi will not be restrained, wheat will not mature, the people will be greatly disturbed, cold qi will occur frequently, all grasses and trees will wither and wither, and there will be great floods in the country.

歲星為仁，貌曰曲直象木。（可操曲直）木曰貌，貌，容儀也；貌曰恭，恭，儼恪也；恭作肅，肅，敬也。肅時雨若，狂恆雨若，是故人君貌恭心肅，則歲星光明盛大，無盈縮，儼而行中道，降福德而示吉祥。時雨降，人君壽，百穀成，天下安而民樂矣。

The Star of Years governs benevolence and is associated with "Appearance" in the five aspects of the "Book of Documents · Hongfan." The nature of wood, which can be bent or straightened, serves as an analogy for this association. Wood corresponds to "Appearance," which refers to one's demeanor and bearing. "Appearance" requires "reverence," which means solemnity and respect. Reverence gives rise to "solemnity," which means careful and cautious conduct. When a ruler is solemn and cautious, heaven responds with timely rain; when a ruler is arrogant and unrestrained, heaven responds with prolonged rain. Therefore, when a ruler maintains a respectful appearance and a solemn heart, the Star of Years shines brightly without premature or delayed movement, proceeding steadily along the middle path, bestowing fortune and virtue, and displaying auspiciousness. Thus, timely rain falls as scheduled, the ruler lives long, the hundred grains mature, the world is at peace, and the people are happy.

若人君酷亂恣情，則讒臣湊，變怒芒角，錯逆降示，應恆雨淫注，人君不昌，百穀不成，庶事不寧，天下有兵。夫歲星色澤微暗，進退失度，為奸邪並與，人君無福，有芒角者戰勝。武密曰：順角指所戰勝，逆者凶，順行不可逆戰，逆行不可背之以戰，凶。

If the sovereign is cruel, tyrannical, and confused, then flatterers will gather around him. The planet Jupiter will change its color and become angry, developing a horn-like appearance, using chaotic and rebellious celestial phenomena to warn, and the response will be continuous heavy rain and great floods. The sovereign will not flourish, the hundred grains will not mature, all affairs will be in disorder, and the whole world will face military calamities. If the color of Jupiter is slightly dim and its movement forward and backward deviates from the norm, it indicates that wicked ministers will rise together, and the sovereign will have no fortune. If Jupiter develops a horn-like appearance, the side that launches an attack in the direction indicated by the horn will win. Wu Mi said: attacking in the direction of the horn will lead to victory, while attacking against it will result in disaster. When Jupiter moves forward, one must not attack against it; when Jupiter moves backward, one must not attack facing it, for such actions will bring misfortune.

歲星與月相掩食，國有大喪，女主大臣亡。歲星與熒惑合斗，殺大將；與太白合斗，有大兵；與太白相犯，有兵大戰。金在木南，南國敗；在木，北國敗。木乘金，偏將死；木與金合斗，大將死。

The planet Jupiter and the moon mutually eclipse each other, indicating a great mourning in the country, with the death of the female ruler and high officials. When Jupiter combines and fights with Mars, it indicates the death of a general; when it combines and fights with Venus, it indicates large-scale military actions; when Jupiter and Venus mutually interfere, it indicates war and a major battle. If Venus is south of Jupiter, it indicates defeat for the southern state; if Venus is north of Jupiter (the original text may have a missing 'north' after 'wood'), it indicates defeat for the northern state. When Jupiter presses upon Venus, it indicates the death of a subordinate general; when Jupiter combines and fights with Venus, it indicates the death of a high-ranking general.

歲星先至，諸星從之者，其國分人君吉，以仁德威天下矣。應留不留，其國亡；應去不去，其國昌。歲星主齊魯，青、徐州。色白有喪，黑有病，赤有兵起，黃有喜。

The planet of years arrives first, with the other stars following, indicating that the ruler of that region will have good fortune and be able to subdue the world through benevolence and virtue. If the planet of years should stay but does not stay, the country of that region will perish; if it should depart but does not depart, the country of that region will flourish. The planet of years governs the regions of Qi and Lu, which are the states of Qingzhou and Xuzhou. If it appears white, there will be mourning; if black, there will be illness; if red, there will be military conflict; if yellow, there will be celebration.

歲星平見，入冬至初者，減八日，後六日損七日，以次六日損一日，畢於大寒四十五日。凡損十六日盡即平行。自入立春十一日加一日，畢於雨水，因入春分，均加四日，清明穀雨，均加五日。

To calculate the mean appearance day of the star of years: when entering the first sign of winter solstice, subtract eight days; then, every six days thereafter, subtract seven days, and continue subtracting one day every six days until forty-five days after the winter solstice. Once the total subtraction reaches sixteen days, proceed with the mean calculation. Starting from the beginning of spring, add one day every eleven days until the rainwater solar term; then, upon entering the vernal equinox, add four days; for the qingming and guyu solar terms, add five days each.

自入立夏，畢於大暑，均加六日。自入立秋，初日加六日，加後十日減五日，畢於秋分。自入寒露已後，六日減一日，畢於立冬。自入小雪，畢於大雪，均減八日。餘為定見日，初見去日十四度。

From the day of Li Xia until the day of Da Shu, add six days. From the day of Li Qiu, add six days on the first day, then subtract five days every ten days until the day of Qiufen. From the day of Han Lu onwards, subtract one day every six days until the day of Li Dong. From the day of Xiao Xue until the day of Da Xue, subtract eight days. The remaining number determines the day of the first appearance. When the first appearance occurs, the Star of Brightness is fourteen degrees away from the Sun.

置星定見之前夜半日所在之宿度算及分，各以定見去朔日算及分加之，行分滿法，六百七十乃從度一。（其日度星度分名，半日法也。）以星初見去日度數，晨減夕加之，命度以次，則星初見所在度分求者，次日各以一日所行度及分。

The method of calculation involves taking the degree of the Star of brightness and prestige on the night before the day it first appears, adding to it the number of days and fractions of days from the day it is first seen to the new moon. When the total exceeds 670, it is counted as one degree. (In this context, the fractions of degrees for both solar and stellar positions are measured by half the daily rate.) Then take the degree of the star when it first appears, subtracting it from the sun's degree if it appears in the morning, or adding it if it appears in the evening. This gives the degree and fraction of the star's position at its first appearance. To calculate its position on subsequent days, add the daily movement in degrees and fractions each day.

其金火之行而有小分者，各以日率為母，小分滿母法，從去行分滿六百七十，去從行度日一度。其有益遲益疾者，則別置一日行分，各以疾益遲損乃加之，留者因前退即減之。伏不注度，順行出虛，去其分已也，行入斗，先加分。

When the planet Tai Bai (metal) and the planet Ying Huo (fire) move with small fractions, each uses the daily rate as the denominator. When the small fractions fill the denominator, they carry over to the next unit. When the total of the daily fractions reaches six hundred and seventy, it is carried over to form one degree. If the movement gradually slows or speeds up, then a separate daily fraction is calculated, adding to the total for speeding up and subtracting for slowing down, and then combined into the overall total. When there is a 'stationary' period, it is calculated by subtracting from the previous retrograde value. During hidden periods, the degree numbers are not recorded. When moving out of the Xū xiù (Emptiness mansion), its fractions are removed. When entering the Dǒu xiù (Dipper mansion), the fractions are added first.

歲星初見順，見順日行一百七十一分，日益遲一分，一百一十四分。日行十九度三百二十三分而留，二十六日乃退。日行九十七分，八十四日退十二度一百八十分。又留二十六日乃順行。初日行五十八分，日益度一分疾。一百一十四日，行十九度三百二十三分而伏。

When the planet Jupiter first appears, it moves forward daily by 171 parts. After that, it decreases by one part each day and gradually slows down, continuing for a total of 114 days. In total, it moves 19 degrees and 323 parts, then turns to 'stationary' (停留). It remains stationary for 26 days before beginning to move backward. During the retrograde motion, it moves 97 parts each day, and over 84 days, it retrogresses 12 degrees and 180 parts. It then remains stationary again for 26 days before resuming forward motion. On the first day of resuming forward motion, it moves 58 parts, and then increases by one part each day, gradually speeding up. After completing 114 days, it moves a total of 19 degrees and 323 parts and then disappears.

角：歲星犯左角，天下之道皆阻塞。犯右角，天下更王，使絕滅。守留角中，五穀成熟，留之一百日，兵起。木犯守角，王者大赦，忠臣用。木乘左角，法官誅。木乘右角，大將軍死。木逆行於角，人主出入不時。若有急事，千里之行。凡木犯守乘左角七日已上，天下大赦；守右角，賢士用，期七十日。

The Horn mansion: If the star of years invades the left horn star, it indicates that the roads throughout the country will be blocked. If it invades the right horn star, it signifies a change of ruler and the end of the previous dynasty's lineage. If the star of years stays in the Horn mansion, it indicates that the five grains will mature; if it stays for a hundred days, it indicates the outbreak of military conflicts. If the star of years invades and stays in the Horn mansion, it indicates that the ruler will pardon the people widely and appoint loyal ministers. If the star of years presses upon the left horn, it indicates that officials in charge of justice will be executed. If it presses upon the right horn, it indicates the death of the grand general. If the star of years movesretrograde in the Horn mansion, it indicates that the ruler will have no fixed time for going out or returning; if there is an urgent matter, there will be a journey of thousands of miles. If the star of years invades, stays, or presses upon the left horn for more than seven days, it indicates a great pardon throughout the country; if it stays on the right horn, it indicates the appointment of virtuous scholars, and the period should be seventy days.

亢：歲星犯亢，天子坐之，則敗於君。木數入亢，其國疾疫。木經亢，韓鄭有兵。木守亢，小兵。木逆行守亢，為中國兵。木犯守亢逆行，失國，其明色，大政不用。

Kang Xu: If the star of years invades Kang Xu, the sovereign will suffer losses and fail in his position. If the star of years repeatedly enters Kang Xu, it indicates an epidemic in the corresponding region. If the star of years passes through Kang Xu, there will be military affairs in the areas of Han and Zheng. If the star of years stays in Kang Xu, there will be minor military conflicts. If the star of yearsretrograde and stays in Kang Xu, there will be military affairs in the Central Plains. If the star of years invades, stays, andretrograde in Kang Xu, it indicates the loss of territory; if its color is bright, it suggests that major policies will not be adopted.

氐：木犯氐，國無儲。木舍守氐，其國歲熟，賤人有疾。木乘氐之右星，天下有大水大兵。木乘氐左星，天子有自將兵於野。木出入舍氐者，（天庫之星也。）其國有急令，其歲太平，環而守之，其國以兵致天下。氐為嬖妾有喜者，若與月合在氐而暈，不出四十日有德令。木守氐，王者立后，期十八日。木犯逆行守氐，國大飢，人民流亡，亦為人多病。

The Root Mansion: When the star of years invades the Root Mansion, it indicates the state lacks provisions. When the star of years stops and resides in the Root Mansion, it signifies that the country corresponding to this mansion will have a bountiful harvest, but the common people will suffer from many diseases. When the star of years presses upon the right star of the Root Mansion, it indicates great floods and large-scale military conflicts throughout the land. When the star of years presses upon the left star of the Root Mansion, it indicates the emperor personally leading his army on a campaign. When the star of years enters and exits, stopping and residing in the Root Mansion (which is the celestial storehouse), it indicates that the country will issue urgent decrees, and that year will be peaceful. If the star of years circles around the Root Mansion and resides there, it indicates that the country will gain the world through military strength. The Root Mansion presides over favored concubines and auspicious events. If the star of years and the moon conjoin in the Root Mansion and produce a lunar halo, within forty days there will be a decree of benevolence and grace. When the star of years resides in the Root Mansion, it indicates the king will appoint a queen, and this will occur within eighteen days. When the star of years invades, retrogrades, and resides in the Root Mansion, it indicates a great famine in the country, with people scattering and fleeing, and many people suffering from illness.

房：木入房十日成句巳者，為天子惡之，以赦解之。（金水同占。）又曰：為皇后夫人喪，謂房東行復還返也。木舍房氐，氐色不明；有喪。又曰大水。木守房，為大人憂，以赦解之。木犯房，將相有憂。木舍房，人主喜，其將相大吉。

The mansion of Room (Fang Xu): When the year star enters the mansion of Room and stays for ten days, it forms the shape of "Jiu Si" (a curved line), which indicates the emperor dislikes this omen; it can be resolved by a general amnesty. Another interpretation says it signifies the death of the empress or a consort, referring to the year star moving eastward through the mansion of Room and then turning back. When the year star stops between the mansions of Room and Root, and the color of Root is dim and unclear, it indicates there will be mourning; another interpretation suggests there will be a great flood. When the year star resides in the mansion of Room, it indicates the nobleman will have worries, which can be resolved by a general amnesty. When the year star invades the mansion of Room, it indicates the ministers and generals will have troubles. When the year star stops in the mansion of Room, it indicates the sovereign will have joy and celebration, and his ministers and generals will be greatly fortunate.

心：木近心，七日以內有暴貴者，遠不出百八十日。木經心，清明列照，天下內奉王化，帝必延年。木乘心，其國相死。木居守心，王者行天心，陰陽和，天下大豐，五穀成熟，有慶賜，賢士用，皆有德令。木犯乘守心，大人凶。木中犯乘凌太子位，太子憂；犯少子位，少子憂。

Heart Mansion: When the star of years approaches the Heart Mansion, it indicates that someone will suddenly become prominent within seven days, and at the latest, within one hundred and eighty days. When the star of years passes through the Heart Mansion, if it is clear and bright, shining widely, it signifies that the whole world will honor the king's teachings, and the emperor will surely live long. When the star of years presses upon the Heart Mansion, it indicates the death of the minister of that region. When the star of years stays in the Heart Mansion, it indicates that the king will implement policies in accordance with the will of heaven, yin and yang will be in harmony, the whole country will have a great harvest, the five grains will mature, there will be celebrations and rewards, and virtuous men will be appointed, all with benevolent decrees. When the star of years invades, presses upon, or stays in the Heart Mansion, it indicates misfortune for the nobleman. When the star of years conflicts, presses upon, or oppresses the position of the prince star in the Heart Mansion, it indicates trouble for the prince; when it conflicts with the position of the庶son star, it indicates trouble for the庶son.

尾：木入尾者，易後太子者；后族有升顯者，不出百八十日。木守尾，民人為憂，大臣作亂者，若反逆，從大將家起，若中有讒諛者，期二十日，若卿出當之。木乘犯尾，早谷大貴，人人相食。木守尾三十日，王者立貴后夫人。若生太子，欲封寵后族，人主以嬪為後。

Tail mansion: When the star of years enters the Tail mansion, it indicates a change of empress or crown prince; it also signifies that someone from the imperial family will rise in status and achieve prominence, not exceeding 180 days. If the star of years stays in the Tail mansion, it indicates that common people will suffer hardships and there will be rebels among the ministers; if there is rebellion, it will start from the families of high generals; if there are slanderers and flatterers in the court, the time period is twenty days, or it will be taken on by the ministers and officials. If the star of years presses upon or invades the Tail mansion, it indicates that the price of early-maturing grain will surge, and people will resort to cannibalism. 斗：木犯南斗，為有赦。木乘凌南斗，有大臣反伏誅者。木入南斗中，死者甚眾。木經南斗魁，失道者死。木經南斗，與國福，歲大熟。木入南斗，若留守十日，所居之國當誅。

牛：木犯牽牛，越獻金銀。木居牽牛，三十日至九十日，天下和平，道德明，四夷朝中國。木入牽牛，農人死於野，陰陽不和，五穀多傷。木犯牛，留守之，為有破軍殺將，牛多死。

女：木入須女，有進美女者，大人慶，若宜女喜，立后，拜太子，期四十日，若九十日，宮人有受賜者。木守須女逆行，其君廢農桑。木守須女，米一斗三百，民有自責者，多火災。木逆行留守，凌犯須女，天子及大臣有疾，必有苛政，布帛貴賤不時。

The Girl Mansion: When the star of years enters the Girl Mansion, it indicates that someone will present a beautiful woman, the nobleman will have good fortune, or it is favorable for the birth of a daughter and brings joy. If the star of years moves backward and stays in the Girl Mansion, oppressing it, it indicates that the emperor and ministers will be ill, there will certainly be harsh decrees, and the price of silk and cloth will fluctuate unpredictably.

虛：木入虛，天下大虛。木經虛，齊國多憂。木守虛，七日已上，盡三十日，王者起宗廟，修陵冢，有白衣之會，不出九十日。木入守虛，留守之。二十日不下，有立諸侯；六十日不下，國有死將；百日不下，改年號，大臣戮死，期二年。木犯虛而守之，王者以凶改服，有白衣之會，不出六十日，天下大飢，人民流千里，君臣離散。

The mansion of Emptiness: When the star of years enters the mansion of Emptiness, it indicates the world will be empty and lacking. If it remains for one hundred days, it indicates a change of era name and the killing of a minister, which will be verified within two years. If the star of years invades the mansion of Emptiness and stays there, it indicates the king will change his ceremonial attire due to mourning, and there will be gatherings for mourning, which will be verified within sixty days. It also indicates a great famine across the land, with people fleeing for a thousand li, and the separation of sovereign and ministers.

危：木舍危南，雨血膏王室。木守危，三十日若二十日，諸侯天子更宮室，民多土功，有哭泣之事。又為多盜賊，民相惡之。

Wēi Sù: When the star of years stops at the southern side of Wēi Sù, it indicates heavenly blood rain falling, contaminating the royal family. If the star of years stays at Wēi Sù for thirty days or twenty days, it signifies that dukes and the Son of Heaven will rebuild palaces, and many commoners will be engaged in construction work, with many instances of mourning and funerals. It also indicates numerous bandits and mutual hatred among the people.

室：木犯營室。犯陽，為陽有急；犯陰，為陰有急。木入營室而人主有賞賜之事，天下當有受賜爵祿者。木處營室東壁，赦，其去陽之陰，天下喜，牢獄虛。木守營室，民疾病，有德者得地，歸與民爵。

Encampment Mansion: When the star of years invades Encampment Mansion, if it invades its yang position, there will be urgent difficulties on the yang side; if it invades its yin position, there will be urgent difficulties on the yin side. When the star of years enters Encampment Mansion, the sovereign will have matters of granting rewards, and people throughout the land will receive titles and salaries. When the star of years is between Encampment Mansion and Wall Mansion, there will be an amnesty. If it leaves the yang position and moves into the yin position, the whole land will be joyful, and the prisons will be empty. When the star of years stays in Encampment Mansion, the common people will suffer from many diseases, virtuous people will be granted territories, and the sovereign will also bestow titles upon the people.

壁：木居東壁，五穀以水傷。木守壁，天下大赦。王者有堯舜之治，四海同心。木犯壁，天下兵起，一曰狄兵起。

Wall Mansion: When the year star stays in the Wall Mansion, it indicates that grain crops will suffer damage due to water disasters. When the year star resides in the Wall Mansion, it signifies a great amnesty throughout the land, and the king will govern with the virtue of Yao and Shun, leading all under heaven to unite in loyalty. If the year star invades the Wall Mansion, it portends the outbreak of military conflicts; another interpretation suggests military actions by the northern barbarians.

奎：木入奎，其年五穀以蟲為害。居其南，糴賤，牛馬繒帛皆賤。居其西，糴物貴，人不安。木處奎中，小赦。木守奎，北狄來降。木逆行入奎而守之，其君好攻戰，兵甲不息，人民流亡，不安其居。

Kui Xu: When the star of years enters Kui Xu, it indicates that the five grains of the current year will suffer from pests. If the star of years is located to the south of Kui Xu, it signifies that grain prices will be low, and cattle, horses, silk, and brocade will also be inexpensive. If the star of years is located in the middle of Kui Xu, it signifies a minor amnesty. If the star of years stays in Kui Xu, it indicates that the northern barbarians will come to submit. If the star of yearsretrograde enters and stays in Kui Xu, it indicates that the king will have a fondness for warfare, military equipment will not rest, and the people will scatter and flee, unable to live in peace.

婁：木入婁，國有聚，人主喪，期一年。木守婁，王者承天位，天下安寧，有慶賀，有兵罷。木逆行守婁，其君牢吏斷獄不用，不以時，民多怨訟，若有赦令。

Lousu: When the star of years enters Lousu, it indicates that there will be gathering and storing within the country, and the sovereign will suffer a loss, which will occur within a year. When the star of years stays in Lousu, it signifies that the king will receive the mandate of heaven, the world will be peaceful, there will be something to celebrate, and military actions will cease. When the star of years moves backward and stays in Lousu, it suggests that the officials in charge of the court will be incompetent in their judgments and will delay the trials, leading to much resentment among the people and disputes. There may also be an imperial pardon issued.

胃：木犯胃，為天下五穀無實以為災。木經胃、昴、畢，趙水澇，魚行人道。木守胃，國以無義失幣，有水旱事。木守胃，王者順天德，中畿國昌。

The Stomach mansion: When the star of years invades the Stomach mansion, it indicates that the five grains will not mature and disasters will occur. When the star of years passes through the Stomach mansion, Hairy Head mansion, and Net mansion, it signifies flooding in the state of Zhao, with fish moving along the paths people walk. When the star of years resides in the Stomach mansion, it indicates the country loses virtue and suffers loss of wealth, along with droughts and floods. The star of years residing in the Stomach mansion also signifies the king following the virtue of heaven, and the capital region flourishing.

昴：木乘昴，若出北者，為陰國有憂，若胡主死。木守昴東，糴大貴，三月後守北，其歲有德令。木守昴，王者有德令。昴者，天之內室，歲星近之，下獄之臣有解者，不出四十日。木守昴畢，東行至天高，復反至五車，為邊兵。一曰為赦令。木守昴，入守天獄，天下獄虛。木乘守昴，若出北者，為陰國有憂，胡王死。（土水同占。）

The mansion of Hairy Head is the inner chamber of heaven; when the Yearly Star approaches it, it indicates that prisoners will be released, within forty days. If the Yearly Star stays in the mansion of Hairy Head and the mansion of Net, and moves eastward to the star of High Heaven, then turns back to the star of Five Carriages, it indicates military affairs on the borders; another interpretation is that there will be an amnesty. If the Yearly Star stays in the mansion of Hairy Head and enters and stays in the star of Heavenly Prison, it indicates that all prisons across the land will be empty. If the Yearly Star approaches and stays in the mansion of Hairy Head, or comes from the north of the mansion of Hairy Head, it indicates that countries with yin characteristics will face troubles, and the king of the Hu people will die (the same method of divination applies when the star of Filling or the star of the Morning Star is involved).

畢：木犯畢，出其北，陰國有憂；出其南，為陽國有憂。木入畢口中，邊有兵。木出畢陽則旱，出畢陰則水為災，政令不行。木處畢北，其年有赦令，有別離之國，奪地之君。一曰歲水。處畢南，有土功，男子多疾疫，歲旱，晚水；處東，多暴雨，金器刀劍貴。木守畢口，國大赦，王賜夷狄，若有功德令。一曰幣大貴。木犯附耳，兵起。若將相喪憂，不即死退。

觜：木犯觜觽，其國兵起，君誅罰不當。木守觜觽，君臣和同。木犯守觜觽，不出一旬，必有覘候之事，農夫不耕，天子皇后俱憂，期甲辰日。

If a red star appears within the Three Stars mansion, it indicates military conflicts arising at the borders. If the year star enters or stays in the Felling Star, it indicates warfare throughout the country.

井：木入東井，主秦國，留守之，以仁致天下。木犯東井，人主有行仇水之事，大將惡之，其國內亂，有兵起。木犯井鉞，刑罰用，兵起。木乘守東井，人主有法令水術之事，逆臣為亂，將軍死，人君有憂。

Well mansion: When the star of years enters the Well mansion, this mansion governs the state of Qin; when the star of years stays here, it indicates that the state of Qin can gain the empire through benevolence. If the star of years invades the Well mansion, the monarch will have matters of revenge and water control, and the general will dislike this omen, leading to internal disorder and the outbreak of military actions in that state. If the star of years invades the Yuet star near the Well mansion, there will be the use of punishment and the outbreak of military actions. If the star of years presses upon and stays in the Well mansion, the monarch will have measures concerning laws and water conservancy, rebels will cause disturbances, generals will die, and the monarch will be troubled.

鬼：木犯鬼鑕，人君有憂，斧鑕用，大臣誅。木入鬼，留十日已上，令散於諸侯，期六十日，若十月。木逆行抵輿鬼中央者，其君主之。木守鬼，為大人有祭禮之事。木守鬼，出於左右，貴親坐之。木守輿鬼西南，為秦漢有反臣，以赦令解之。木干犯守天尸，國有喪。天尸，鬼中粉白者是。

Ghost Mansion: If the planet Jupiter invades the Ghost Mansion and attacks the main star (Zhi), the sovereign will have worries, and the punishment of斧锧 will be used, with high ministers being executed. If Jupiter moves backward and reaches the center of the Ghost Mansion, the sovereign himself will have to bear the responsibility. If Jupiter stays in the Ghost Mansion, there will be a ceremony of worship by the nobleman. If Jupiter stays in the Ghost Mansion but is located on its left or right, the noble relatives will be punished. If Jupiter stays in the southwest of the Ghost Mansion, there will be rebellious ministers in the regions of Qin and Han, which can be resolved by issuing an amnesty decree. If Jupiter invades and stays at the heavenly corpse star, there will be mourning within the country. The heavenly corpse refers to the pale white star cloud in the Ghost Mansion.

柳：木犯柳者，有木功事，若名木見伐者。木經柳，國多義兵。木守柳，貴臣得地，有德令，不出九十日。木逆守柳，為反臣，中外兵起，以德令解之。

Willow Mansion: When the Star of Years invades Willow Mansion, it indicates there will be construction projects involving wood or the felling of valuable trees. When the Star of Years passes through Willow Mansion, it suggests there will be many armies rising up in defense of righteousness within the country. When the Star of Years stays in Willow Mansion, it signifies that a prominent minister will be granted land and will have a reputation for benevolence, and this will occur within ninety days. When the Star of Years moves backward and stays in Willow Mansion, it indicates the emergence of rebellious ministers, with military conflicts arising both inside and outside the court, and benevolence can be used to resolve the situation.

星：木入七星，有君置太子者。木留七星，為天下大憂。木守七星，多火災，旱，萬物五穀不成，有兵飢。木入若守七星，盜賊有兵。

張：木入張，旱，多火災，萬物百穀不成。木逆行張，其君用樂淫泆。木處張西，歲大水；東，為大旱。木守張，天子有慶賀事。木守張十日，其歲大豐，五穀成；三十日不下，天下安寧；守之留百日，其主昇平，君臣同心。木逆行守張，人民疾疫，多心腹病。木犯張，若守之，王者政事，若有千里之行。

Zhang Xu: When the star of years enters Zhang Xu, it indicates drought and frequent fires, with all things and grains unable to mature. If the star of years moves backward in Zhang Xu, it signifies that the king indulges in music and revelry, leading to licentiousness. If the star of years is located west of Zhang Xu, it indicates a great flood in that year; if it is located east of Zhang Xu, it indicates a severe drought. If the star of years stays in Zhang Xu, it indicates that the emperor has something to celebrate. If the star of years remains in Zhang Xu for ten days, it indicates a great harvest and the maturity of all grains; if it stays for thirty days without leaving, it indicates peace throughout the land; if it stays for a hundred days, it indicates that the ruler governs in peace and harmony, with the ruler and ministers united in purpose. If the star of years moves backward and stays in Zhang Xu, it indicates that the people suffer from plague and many suffer from diseases of the heart and abdomen. If the star of years invades or stays in Zhang Xu, it indicates that the king has important affairs to attend to or a journey of thousands of miles.

翼：木入翼，人多死流亡，五穀傷於風，期一歲中。木出入留舍翼，荊楚有急，歲多大蟲，六十日不下，小人失功。木守翼，王者應天，又方術之士大用，翼輔正政，天下符瑞，不出九十日。木守翼，主聖，天下和，五穀登，人民樂，禮義興。

Wings Mansion: When the year star enters Wings Mansion, there will be many deaths and dispersals of people, and the five grains will be damaged by wind. The predicted time is within one year. When the year star enters, exits, and stays in Wings Mansion, there will be urgent difficulties in the Jiangchu region, and there will be many great pests that cause harm that year; if the year star does not leave within sixty days, it indicates that common people lose their livelihood. When the year star stays in Wings Mansion, it indicates that the sovereign can align with heavenly will, and those skilled in esoteric arts will be greatly employed, assisting and rectifying the government, and symbols of heavenly mandate and auspicious omens will appear, not exceeding ninety days. When the year star stays in Wings Mansion, it also indicates that the sovereign is wise and virtuous, the world is harmonious, the five grains are abundant, the people are peaceful and happy, and propriety and righteousness flourish.

軫：木入軫中，伺其出日而數之。期二十日，皆為兵發，伺始入處數之，率一日，期十日，軍罷。（二十八宿中外官，同有此占。）木逆行至軫，及守之，其國有喪，人君改服，天下更主之令，期二年，王者以赦除害。一曰所舍七日不移，有殺君者。

If the star of years retrogrades into the Chariot mansion or stays there, it indicates that the country corresponding to that mansion will suffer a loss, the monarch will change his ceremonial color, and there will be an imperial decree for a change of ruler, with the expected time being two years, and the king will use a great amnesty to eliminate calamities. Another interpretation says: if the star of years remains stationary at a mansion for seven days without moving, there will be an assassination of the monarch.

木逆行至軫，及守之，其國有喪人君者。木在軫，王者憂疾病，若有喪，不出九十日，改服，王者修宗廟，赦三萬里內，災消。木處軫東，糴貴。木處軫西，有女喪，若有水。木守軫南，六畜及車貴。木守軫北，為多疾病。
