This section lists the auspicious configurations of the sun and moon. "The sun in its own position" refers to the sun being in the mansion of the horse (午宫), meaning the sun is in its own place. "The moon entering its own mansion" refers to the moon being in the degrees of Zhang, Wei, Bi, and Xin, also known as the moon ascending into its palace. "The sun reaching its own path" refers to the sun being in the degrees of Xing, Xu, Fang, and Mao, also known as the sun ascending into its palace. "The moon ascending its palace" has the same meaning as the moon entering its own mansion. "The sun in the east and the moon in the west" refers to the sun being in the eastern three mansions of Yin, Mao, and Chen, and the moon being in the western three mansions of Shen, You, and Xu, each in its proper place. "The sun in the south and the moon in the north" refers to the sun being in the southern three mansions of Si, Wu, and Wei, and the moon being in the northern three mansions of Hai, Zi, and Chou. "The sun and moon in their respective mansions" refers to the sun being in the mansion of the horse (午) and the moon in the mansion of the goat (未), each returning to its own palace. "The sun and moon ascending their palaces" refers to the sun being in its own degree and the moon in its own degree. "The sun and moon shining together" means that the moon itself does not emit light and relies on the sun's light to shine; this configuration is considered appropriate only for those born during the day. "Yin and yang in their proper places" refers to the sun being in the southeast and the moon in the northwest. "The sun and moon enclosing the five planets" refers to the five planets being in the center, with the sun and moon surrounding them from front and back. "The sun and moon enclosing the four additional celestial bodies" refers to the four additional celestial bodies being inside, with the sun and moon surrounding them from left and right.
The next is the pattern of auspicious positions where the sun and moon embrace and support. "Sun and moon embracing the禄 and驿马" refers to the禄 andThe Post-horse, who are favorable when supported and embraced by the sun and moon. "Sun and moon embracing the岁驾 and岁殿" refers to the岁驾 and岁殿, who are pleased when embraced by the sun and moon. "Sun and moon embracing the斗杓 and贵人" refers to the斗杓 andNobleman, who are favorable when embraced by the sun and moon. "Sun and moon embracing the唐符 and国印" refers to the唐符 and国印, who are pleased when embraced by the sun and moon. The following is explained according to the twelve palaces: "Sun and moon embracing the命" refers to the sun and moon forming a triple harmony and remotely embracing the命宫 or the main star of the命宫. "Sun and moon embracing the命" also refers to the sun and moon residing in the front and back palaces, closely embracing the命宫 or the main star of the命宫. "Sun and moon embracing the财" and "Sun and moon embracing the财" refer to the sun and moon embracing or closely embracing the财帛宫 or the wealth star. "Sun and moon embracing the田" and "Sun and moon embracing the田" refer to the sun and moon embracing or closely embracing the田宅宫 or the main star of the田宅宫. Whenever auspicious positions are embraced or closely embraced by the sun and moon, their power is doubled.
Further down, it is still the pattern of the sun and moon forming a supportive embrace, but the specific palace they support or enclose differs. "Sun and moon embracing the official position" refers to the sun and moon forming a triple harmony to support the official position palace or the official star. "Sun and moon enclosing the official position" means the sun and moon enclose the official position palace or the official star from both sides. "Sun and moon embracing fortune virtue" and "Sun and moon enclosing fortune virtue" refer to the sun and moon supporting or enclosing the fortune virtue palace or the fortune virtue star. "Sun and moon embracing spouse" and "Sun and moon enclosing spouse" refer to the sun and moon supporting or enclosing the spouse palace or the spouse star. "Sun and moon embracing descendants" and "Sun and moon enclosing descendants" refer to the sun and moon supporting or enclosing the children palace or the descendants star. These four groups, together with the previous three groups of destiny, wealth, and fields, make up the seven strong palaces. When the sun and moon embrace or enclose a strong palace, it indicates that one excels particularly in that area throughout life, so they are all considered favorable.
The day and month are considered to be in a forbidden pattern.
This section specializes in examining the concept of mutual support between the sun and moon. If the supporting stars are auspicious, then the result is auspicious; if the supporting stars are inauspicious, then the result is inauspicious. The following are considered unfavorable patterns. "The sun in the position of the moon" refers to the sun being in the hexagram of You, which is the position of the moon. "The moon in the position of the sun" refers to the moon being in the hexagram of Wu, which is the position of the sun. "The sun's path crosses the moon's path" refers to the sun being in the months of Xin, Zhang, Wei, and Bi. "The moon's path crosses the sun's path" refers to the moon being in the degrees of Xing, Xu, Fang, and Mao. "The sun to the west and the moon to the east" is called yin and yang moving in opposite directions. "The sun to the north and the moon to the south" is called the sun and moon moving in opposite directions. "The sun and moon are out of their proper constellations" is called yin and yang being out of their proper positions. "The sun and moon are out of their proper palaces" is called yin and yang being out of their proper paths. "Both yin and yang are obscured" refers to people born on the night of the new moon or the last moon, when the sun has no light and the moon's light comes from where? "The sun and moon are out of their proper places" refers to the sun being in the northwest and the moon in the southeast. "A lone yang without support" refers to the sun being alone without assistance, like a solitary king standing alone. "A cold moon traveling alone" refers to the moon traveling alone in the cold of winter, when the cold air is frozen and the moon moves alone; this pattern is actually favorable for those born during the day.
This group discusses how the conjunction of the sun and moon in a certain way with malevolent stars can create a bad pattern. "The sun and moon embracing the Yang Blade" refers to the Yang Blade and Tian Xiong, two malevolent stars, being embraced by the sun and moon, which is most dangerous. "The sun and moon embracing the劫" refers to the Kill Star and the劫 Kill Star being embraced by the sun and moon, which is considered unfavorable (the original text "忌日日拱夹" should be "忌日月拱夹"). "The sun and moon embracing the Lian Feng" refers to the Fei Lian and Jian Feng stars being embraced by the sun and moon, which is most dangerous. "The sun and moon embracing the Four Losses and Four Symbols" refers to the Four Losses and Four Symbols being embraced by the sun and moon, which is considered unfavorable. "The sun and moon embracing the Guchen and Guasu" refers to the Guchen and Guasu stars being embraced by the sun and moon, which is most dangerous. "The sun and moon embracing the Three Punishments and Six Harm" refers to the Three Punishments and Six Harm being embraced by the sun and moon, which is considered unfavorable. The reasoning is that embracing is a reinforcing pattern. When it is applied to a good position, it brings great fortune. However, when it is applied to malevolent stars, it strengthens the malevolent stars, thus turning it into an unfavorable pattern.
This group discusses the five weak houses being embraced or confined by the Sun and Moon, and they are also listed among the inauspicious configurations. "Sun and Moon embracing the servant house" and "Sun and Moon confining the servant house" refer to the servant house or the servant star. "Sun and Moon embracing the illness and injury house" and "Sun and Moon confining the illness and injury house" refer to the illness and injury house or its ruler. "Sun and Moon embracing the migration house" and "Sun and Moon confining the migration house" refer to the migration house or its ruler. "Sun and Moon embracing the siblings house" and "Sun and Moon confining the siblings house" refer to the siblings house or its ruler. "Sun and Moon embracing the appearance house" and "Sun and Moon confining the appearance house" refer to the appearance house or its ruler. The servant, illness and injury, migration, siblings, and appearance houses are precisely the five weak houses mentioned earlier. The Sun and Moon, two noble celestial bodies, if their power is used on weak houses, it is equivalent to abandoning strength for weakness. The native's destiny, wealth, official position, and fortune, which should be cared for, are left unattended, so this is also considered an inauspicious configuration. Here we should note that the act of embracing or confining itself is neutral, with good or bad fortune depending entirely on the object being embraced or confined. The same configuration of Sun and Moon embracing or confining, if it falls in one of the seven strong houses, is considered a good configuration as discussed earlier, but if it falls in one of the five weak houses or on malevolent stars, it becomes an inauspicious configuration. Students must not simply see the words "embrace" or "confining" and judge a chart as favorable.
Five Stars in Harmony
The five stars referred to here are wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. First, we discuss "residing in the palace" (居垣): "Jupiter resides in the palace" means the wood star is in the寅 (Yin) or亥 (Hai) palace; "Mars resides in the palace" means the fire star is in the卯 (Mao) or戌 (Xu) palace; "Saturn resides in the palace" means the earth star is in the子 (Zi) or丑 (Chou) palace; "Venus resides in the palace" means the metal star is in the辰 (Chen) or酉 (You) palace; "Water star resides in the palace" means the water star is in the巳 (Si) or申 (Shen) palace — all returning to their own native palaces. Next, we discuss "ascending the hall" (升殿): "Jupiter ascends the hall" means the wood star is in the角 (Jiao), 斗 (Dou), 奎 (Kui), and 井 (Jing) four wood constellations; "Mars ascends the hall" means the fire star is in the尾 (Wei), 室 (Shi), 觜 (Zi), and 翼 (Yi) four fire constellations; "Saturn ascends the hall" means the earth star is in the女 (Nu), 胃 (Wei), 柳 (Liu), and 氐 (Di) four earth constellations; "Venus ascends the hall" means the metal star is in the亢 (Kang), 牛 (Niu), 娄 (Lou), and 鬼 (Gui) four metal constellations; "Water star ascends the hall" means the water star is in the箕 (Ji), 壁 (Bi), 参 (Can), and 轸 (Zhen) four water constellations. Residing in the palace refers to the palace position, while ascending the hall refers to the constellation degree; if a star is both in its native palace and in its native constellation, then both palace and degree are fulfilled, and its strength is at its peak. Any useful god governing the body, life, officialdom, or fortune that is in such a situation is considered of the highest rank. Conversely, if a star resides in the palace but does not ascend the hall, or ascends the hall but does not reside in the palace, it is only half in its proper place, and its strength is reduced. If both palace and degree are lost, even a good star will find it difficult to achieve success. (In the original text, the entry for "Saturn ascending the hall" is written as "Liush" (柳氏), which should be a mistake for "Dishi" (氐).)
This section discusses the pairing of two stars to form a specific pattern, each with its own favorable and unfavorable seasons. "Wood and Moon of Clear Nobility" refers to the conjunction of the Wood star and the Taiyin (Moon) star, which is suitable for those born on the days of the waxing or waning moon or on the full moon night; if born on the new moon or in a dark, cold season, it is not considered favorable. "Fire and Moon on the Same Night" refers to the Fire star and the Taiyin (Moon) star being together on the same night, which is best for those born on the new moon or the dark moon night; if born during a bright moon or in the daytime, it is less favorable. "Metal Assisting the Moon's Radiance" refers to the Metal star assisting the Taiyin (Moon) star to shine, which is most favorable for those born at night in autumn; if born during the day or in winter, it is not beneficial. "Water Reflecting the Moon's Essence" refers to the Water star reflecting the moon's image, which is not beneficial if the moon is cold and the water is also cold; it is not favorable before the full moon, but especially good after the full moon. "Wood and Fire of Civilization" refers to the Wood star and Fire star pairing, which is best for those born in winter or spring, regardless of day or night. "Fire and Earth of Strength" refers to the Fire and Earth stars pairing, which is most favorable for those born in summer when fire is intense and earth is dry; other months, regardless of day or night, are also auspicious. "Earth and Metal of Firmness" refers to the Earth and Metal stars pairing, which is most favorable in autumn and winter when earth covers metal and the energy is contained; other cold months are also good. "Metal and Water Interpenetrating" refers to the Metal and Water stars pairing, which is most appropriate for those born in winter when metal is cold and water is cold; other times, regardless of day or night, are also favorable.
This group is the Five Stars accompanying the Sun pattern, each paired with a divine beast. "Qinglong Supports the Inkstone" applies to those born in the寅 or卯 months, where the Jupiter star and the Sun star are in the same palace (Jupiter is the Qinglong star). "Zhuque Governs the Seal" applies to those born in the巳 or午 months, where the Mars star and the Sun star are in the same palace (Mars is the Zhuque star). "Gou Chen Guards the Hall" applies to those born in the辰, 戌, 丑, or 未 months, where the Saturn star and the Sun star are in the same palace (Saturn is the Gou Chen star). "Baohu Follows the Imperial Coach" applies to those born in the申 or 酉 months, where the Metal star and the Sun star are in the same palace (Metal is the Baohu star). "Yuanwu Holds the Banner" applies to those born in the亥 or 子 months, where the Water star and the Sun star are in the same palace (Water is the Yuanwu star). The last four patterns describe the overall situation of the Five Stars: "Five Stars in Succession" refers to the Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water stars moving in order and surrounding the destiny position; "Five Stars Converging" refers to the Five Stars gathering in sequence to illuminate the destiny palace; "Five Stars in Their Temples" refers to each of the Five Stars being in their respective temples; "Five Stars in Their Strength" refers to the Five Stars each being in their strong positions and having proper terrain. As long as any of these four patterns is formed, it is considered an excellent pattern.
The Five Stars' Prohibited Patterns
The general principle of this system is: when the stars are in their own domains, they accumulate wealth layer by layer, and one wears gold around the waist. But once the order is lost and the stars fall into inappropriate palaces, the family's fortune will decline repeatedly. The following lists the forbidden patterns where the five stars are attacked. "Wood in the land of metal" refers to the star of wood being in the palaces of Chen and You, which belong to metal, thus metal attacks wood. "Fire in the land of water" refers to the star of fire being in the palaces of Si and Shen, which belong to water, thus water attacks fire. "Earth in the land of wood" refers to the star of earth being in the palaces of Yin and Hai, which belong to wood, thus wood attacks earth. "Metal in the land of fire" refers to the star of metal being in the palaces of Mao and Xu, which belong to fire, thus fire attacks metal. "Water in the land of earth" refers to the star of water being in the palaces of Zi and Chou, which belong to earth, thus earth attacks water. These five patterns are all cases where the palace attacks the star, and the star is restricted everywhere in the palace, hence they are considered unfavorable.
This group is when a star conquers a palace, and it is also classified as a forbidden pattern. "Fire in the metal palace" means the fire star is in the Chen or You palaces, which are metal palaces. "Earth in the water palace" means the earth star is in the Si or Shen palaces, which are water palaces. "Metal in the wood palace" means the metal star is in the Yin or Hai palaces, which are wood palaces. "Water in the fire palace" means the water star is in the Mao or Xu palaces, which are fire palaces. "Wood in the earth palace" means the wood star is in the Zi or Chou palaces, which are earth palaces. Although the stars are not controlled by the palaces, they clash with the palace energies, and thus cannot be peaceful. Below this are other forbidden patterns where two stars mutually conquer each other: "Metal and wood together" means metal and wood are in the same palace and they conquer each other; "Water and fire together" means water and fire are in the same palace and they conquer each other; "Wood and earth conquer each other" means wood conquers earth; "Fire and metal fight" means fire and metal meet and clash; "Earth and water clash" means earth conquers water and the two energies clash strongly. If any of these configurations occur, and the star that is conquered is the useful god, then the pattern is broken.
The Four Extraordinary Stars are in harmony.
The four additional celestial bodies referred to here are Zi Qi, Yue Bo, Luo Hou, and Ji Du. "Luo Ji Zhong Fen" means Luo Hou is at Wu and Ji Du is at Zi, one in the south and one in the north, dividing the celestial circle in the middle. "Chu Gan Ru Xun" means Luo Hou is at Hai and Ji Du is at Si, one emerging from the Qian position and the other entering the Xun position. "Luo Ji Jian Ce" means for those born during the day, Luo Hou blocks all the stars in the Southeast; for those born at night, Luo Hou blocks all the stars in the Northwest. "Si Yu Du Bu" means Zi Qi, Yue Bo, Luo Hou, and Ji Du each occupy one palace, not interfering with each other, moving independently. "Yi Xing Tiao Yuan" means although Luo Hou and Ji Du block the stars, one useful star still escapes through the gap, and such a person is considered noble. The four additional celestial bodies are originally residual energies; the key to forming a good pattern lies in their orderly arrangement rather than being mixed and entangled.
This group discusses the auspicious combinations formed by the seven planets and four additional celestial bodies. "Wood and Rohini Converge" uses the planet Jupiter as the useful god; it is most favorable for those born in winter or spring when Jupiter is in its exalted or strong position. "Fire, Anger, Authority, and Position" uses the planet Mars as the useful god; it is considered appropriate when Mars is in its exalted or strong position. "Wood,孛, Symbol, and Seal" uses Jupiter as the useful god; it is auspicious when Jupiter is in its exalted or strong position, but those born in winter lack strength. "Blessed Clouds Embrace the Moon" refers to those born on the first or last quarter or full moon nights; the Moon should be supported by the Purple Qi, and those born in December are slightly less favorable. "Taiyi Embraces the Toad" refers to those born on the first or last quarter or full moon nights; the Moon prefers to be embraced by the Moon孛, and those born in the coldest months are not considered. "Rohini and the Moon Shine Together" refers to those born on the new or last moon nights; the Moon should be accompanied by Rohini, and those born in cold months are especially favorable. "The First Star Embraces the Sun" refers to those born on the new or last moon nights; the Sun prefers to be assisted by Rohini (also known as the First Star), and those born in December are most favorable. It is evident that the four additional celestial bodies supporting the Sun and Moon must be combined with the birth time and season to be effective.
"The phrase 'Jin Ji Tong Yuan' refers to the situation where the planet Jin (Metal) and Ji Du (a shadowy planet) are in the same mansion. When Jin is the Useful God, if Jin and Ji Du are in the same mansion, and they are in their native mansion or a flourishing position, it is considered auspicious. However, for those born in winter, the power is reduced because cold metal is not effective. 'Tu Luo Xiang Hui' refers to the situation where the planet Tu (Earth) and Luo Hui (a shadowy planet) meet. When Tu is the Useful God, if Tu and Luo Hui are in a flourishing position, it is considered very favorable. However, for those born in summer, the excessive dryness of fire and earth is considered unfavorable. 'Shou Wei Yin Yang Ju Si Zheng' refers to the situation where 'Shou' (Luo Hui), 'Wei' (Ji Du), Yin (the sun), and Yang (the moon) are located in the four cardinal directions, which are the positions of Zi, Wu, Mao, and You. 'Huo Luo Ji Bo Shou Si Wei' refers to the situation where the planet Huo (Fire), Luo Hui, Ji Du, and Yue Bo (a shadowy planet) are in the four cardinal directions. The four cardinal directions usually refer to Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, but in this context, it also applies to the four cardinal directions of Zi, Wu, Mao, and You. These patterns are established based on the positional relationships between the four residual planets and the seven principal planets."
The remaining candidates who passed the examination are eligible.
The term "Zheng" refers to the sun, moon, and five wandering stars, making a total of seven celestial bodies. This configuration is most favorable for those born at night. "Wuyao Huan Yang" refers to the five elements—wood, fire, earth, metal, and water—arranged in order along the southeast direction to assist the sun. "Siyu Peng Yue" refers to the four Yu bodies—Zi Qi, Yue Bo, Luo Hou, and Ji Du—each moving separately along the northwest direction to support the moon. "Wuyao Su Yang" refers to the five stars following the sun, which is suitable for those born during the day. "Among the stars, they all gather in the three palaces of Si, Wu, and Wei, and the命宫 should also be placed in this area." "The stars all gather in the three palaces of Hai, Zi, and Chou, and the命宫 is suitable to be placed in this area." "Residing in three, separating in three" means that three palaces have stars and three palaces do not, with even intervals. The stars are in their proper positions and rising, indicating high status. "Keeping one empty one" means that one palace has stars and one does not, alternating, with the stars in their prime, indicating high status. "Literary and military ranks" means that the seven bright stars represent the literary ranks and the four additional stars represent the military ranks. The seven stars and four excesses have certain忌格 (taboos). "Fire Mars offends the sun" refers to those born in the day; the sun is most afraid of fire, if Rahu is also in the same palace, and further combined with Yangren and Tianxiong, it becomes particularly unfavorable. "Earth and Calculation cover the moon" refers to those born at night; the moon is most afraid of earth, if Jiudu is also in the same palace, and further combined with evil stars and Yangren, the harm is even greater. "Four excesses invade the yang" means that Zi qi, Yuebo, Rahu, and Jiudu should not invade the sun. "Five elements lose their order" refers to wood, fire, earth, metal, and water each falling into the palace that is in conflict with their own element, thus completely disrupting the order. "Wood blocks the sunlight" refers to those born in the day; they should avoid wood and Zi qi blocking the sun's light; conversely, those born at night would actually benefit from Mars and Rahu assisting. "Full moon with fire" refers to the period from the waxing moon to the waning moon, when the moon is full; those born at night should avoid Mars and Rahu invading the moon.

"The 'Boluo Fighting' is originally a凶 omen, but if the命宫 is in亥 and both月孛 and罗睺 are governing田宅财帛, it is considered吉 instead. 'Ji and Boluo in the same palace' is also considered吉 if the命宫 is in亥 or卯, and both月孛 and计都 are governing福德 and田宅. The following patterns are all judged based on the用神: 'Water and Ji conflict' is凶 if water star is the用神; 'Earth and Boluo mixed' weakens the power if earth star is the用神; 'Metal and Luo conflict' is bad if metal star is the用神; 'Fire and Boluo fighting' causes damage if fire star is the用神. Below are several bad patterns that form complete structures: 'Heaven and Earth blocked' occurs when the命 is in亥 with金星 and罗睺, or the命 is in申 with土星 and计都, causing the heavenly and earthly energies to be blocked. 'Wind and Thunder clash' occurs when the water star is in卯 and the fire star is in巳, with the命宫 in辰. 'Water and Fire shoot at each other' occurs when the water star is in午 and the fire star is in子, or when the wood star is in卯 and戌, or the fire star is in巳 and申, causing mutual shooting of energies. 'Mountain and Marsh buried' occurs when the gold star is in寅 and the wood star is in酉; if these are exactly the用神, then the pattern is lost."
