The following ten situations all indicate poverty and hardship: when the hidden star and the consuming spirit form an aspect with the fields and wealth sectors, called "hidden consumption aspects fields and wealth"; when the fields and wealth sectors themselves encounter hidden consumption, called "fields and wealth meet hidden consumption"; when the fields and wealth sectors also meet empty void and consuming spirit, called "fields and wealth meet empty void and consumption"; when the main stars of fields and wealth are weakened and powerless, called "fields and wealth main stars lose strength"; when various stars fight and attack each other without cause, called "stars fight without cause"; when auspicious stars instead support evil forces, called "stars and evil forces mutually generate"; when evil forces and bad stars form a group, called "evil forces and bad stars form a party"; when the eight evils meet difficult stars aspect the body and life, called "difficult stars aspect body and life"; when useless spirits mistakenly enter the positions of sun and moon, called "useless spirits mistakenly enter sun and moon positions"; when the body palace and life palace meet the stars of punishment, imprisonment, and difficulty, called "body and life meet punishment, imprisonment, and difficulty stars."

LingTai Star Pattern

"The conjunction of the two jewels and the string of pearls" refers to the sun, moon, and five planets gathering in the sky once, with the sun and moon appearing side by side like two pieces of jade forming a pair, and the five planets arranged in order like a string of pearls connected together, their movements neither ahead nor behind. If such a gathering occurs in the second cycle of the star system associated with the Dou (Dǒu) and Niú (Niú) constellations, it happens once every nine generations; if it occurs in other star cycles, it happens once every generation. A poem says: In the first year of Taichu, during the reign of Emperor Wu of Han, it was the year of Dingchou, and this year was chosen as the beginning of the calendar, with the sun, moon, and five planets exactly meeting in the constellations of Dǒu and Niú; who could know that the calculation of that time was five days off? Such a conjunction of the two jewels and the string of pearls is not something that can be compared to any ordinary gathering in later times.

"The conjunction of the sun and moon" refers to the sun and moon occupying the same palace, or being in mutual opposition, or shining in the triple harmony positions. However, it is only considered a noble configuration if both the sun and moon are in their flourishing places. The sun follows a path called the "middle path," while the moon follows the "nine paths." The middle path is the Yellow Path. The nine paths include two blue paths emerging to the east of the Yellow Path, two red paths to the south, two white paths to the west, and two black paths to the north. These eight paths correspond to the eight seasonal divisions of a year, matching the four cardinal directions and the four intermediate directions.

By calculating the convergence of yin and yang energies in the center and at the end, the sun's path is exactly along the Yellow Path. Adding the eight lunar paths to the central Yellow Path makes nine paths in total. After the positions of Heaven and Earth are established, these eight directions each occupy their proper places. As the cold and heat change and the new and old moons alternate, what was previously to the south moves to the north, and what was previously to the east moves to the west. The sun's path shifts with the years, while the moon's path changes according to the limits of solar and lunar eclipses.

The sun enters and exits the equator, moving north and south by twenty-four degrees, while the moon enters and exits the Yellow Path, moving north and south by six degrees. Therefore, when the sun and moon intersect at the moment of the middle of the night (子正), the morning of the last day of the month (晦日) is equivalent to the evening of the first day of the next month (朔日), at which time neither the sun nor the moon can be seen. If they intersect at the middle of the day (午正), then the morning of the last day of the month is equivalent to the evening of the second day of the next month, at which time both the sun and moon can be seen. Generally speaking, the term "合璧" (conjunction of the sun and moon) should be determined based on whether the conjunction occurs at the middle of the night or the middle of the day. If a person's命宫 (destiny palace) is exactly in between, it can be used to determine the strength of their destiny. For example, on the midnight of the eleventh day of the first lunar month in the Jiayin year of the Southern Song Dynasty (绍兴甲寅年), the sun was at one degree of the Dipper mansion (斗宿), while the moon was at four degrees of the same mansion. This shows that the moon had already reached the conjunction at the middle of the night by the evening of the last day of the previous month.

For example, in the first day of the first lunar month of the Xinwei year in Jiading, the sun had already entered the Zi mansion on the 28th day of the previous lunar month. By the first day of the month, the sun was at six degrees in the Nu mansion, while the moon was still at two degrees in the Niu mansion. This shows that the sun entered the Zi mansion after the noon of the day of the winter solstice. Some people do not understand the calculation of the conjunction of the sun and moon, and upon seeing the卯 (mǎo) hour on the first day of the month, they directly take it as the命宫 (ming gong, destiny palace), and claim that they have experienced "日月合璧" (the conjunction of the sun and moon). In reality, this is a mistake. Moreover, during the new and full moon periods, the sun and moon are in a position of mutual eclipse and decline. If a person's destiny palace falls in this area, how can it be without harm? For instance, those born on the first or fifteenth day of the fourth lunar month in the Xinwei year have their destiny palace exactly at the conjunction of the sun and moon or its opposite position, which is precisely this situation. There is a poem that says: the sun and moon move in parallel, but what is the actual situation? The sun and moon naturally have varying speeds in their movement. Who can recognize their positions when they meet and oppose each other at the Zi and Wu mansions? If the birth time coincides with a true conjunction of the sun and moon, it will certainly bring about prosperity and success, and this is not empty talk.

"The Five Stars in a Line" refers to the five stars not necessarily being in the same palace, but rather arranged in sequence to occupy five consecutive palaces without interruption, which counts as a line. If one palace is left empty and the five stars form an empty arch around it, with the命宫 (destiny palace) exactly in that empty position, it also counts. If the arch is formed around theHai Palace (Hai Palace) day gate, it is called "Five Stars in a Line"; if around theSi Palace (Si Palace) earth gate, it is called "Five Stars Arching the Taiwei and Ziwu." The saying "sitting on a real position is not as good as arching an empty one, facing is not as good as direct facing" refers precisely to this principle. Alternatively, if the five stars are arranged in sequence across two palaces to form an arching pattern, it is also considered good. Each of the five stars has its own designated palace where it resides, and for them to gather together is already rare. If they can be arranged in a line, it is even more extraordinary.

In the thirteenth year of the Chunxi era of Emperor Song Xiaozong, which was the year Bingwu, in the leap seventh month, the five planets gathered together in the Double Female Palace, which is the Si Palace. If a person's命宫 (destiny palace) coincides with this time, it is already a rare and extraordinary configuration. For example, those born in the fifth month of the fourth year of the Gandaohui era, which was the year Wuzi, had the water star in Shen, the metal star in You, the fire star in Xu, the wood star in Hai, and the earth star in Chou. This is called a chain formation. Many people born in that year later achieved great success and held prominent positions. There is a poem that says: Each of the five stars has its own designated palace where it resides. If they all move to the same place, forming a chain, it is a favorable and prosperous omen. If a person is born exactly at this configuration, even if they do not become a prime minister, they will certainly attain high official rank.

"The 'Dǒu Niú Xiùqì' (Doubull Radiance): The Purple Star is the most noble among the eleven luminaries, characterized by its upright and noble nature, as well as its refined and elegant appearance. The Dǒu and Niú constellations are the first two of the twenty-eight mansions, located in the UGC (丑宫). The royal aura of Jinling (a historical name for Nanjing) is particularly strong in the southeast direction. In ancient times, the brilliant light of the famous sword Longquan (龙泉) was said to shine upward toward the area between Dǒu and Niú. If the Purple Star shines directly opposite or directly in front, and the命宫 (destiny palace) is located in the UGC, then this is especially extraordinary and remarkable."

The area of the sky where the constellations Dou and Niu are located has the Chou palace as its main position. The initial calculations of the sun, moon, and five planets all begin from the "Xing Ji" (Star Record). Therefore, the section of the sky between Dou and Niu is called the Xing Ji. In the eleventh month, the first yang energy begins to emerge, and the Milky Way in the sky gradually recedes, until it reaches this area that connects the heavenly realm to the earthly realm. It continues through the Dou palace and returns, linking with the energies of the twenty-eight constellations. In the Book of Changes, this is the scene of the beginning of the interaction between heaven and earth, forming the Tai hexagram. The Milky Way flows downward, and all rivers converge here, so the stars of fire and earth, which are usually considered inauspicious, become auspicious when they meet in the Chou palace. Especially the star of wood, if it appears in this palace, brings even greater blessings. People in Fujian province find this particularly accurate.

The Spring and Autumn Annals record that in the thirty-second year of Duke Zhao of Lu, the state of Wu attacked Yue. The historian Cai Mo of Jin said that Yue was at the position of the star Jupiter, and Wu attacking it would surely bring misfortune. At that time, the star Jupiter was conjunct with the sun in the third degree of the Southern Dipper. Thirty-eight years later, Yue indeed destroyed Wu, and at that time the star Jupiter had reached the degrees of Dou and Niu. Therefore, if a person's destiny coincides with the conjunction of the sun and Jupiter in the constellation of Star Chronicle, he will surely gain blessings, hence it is called "the auspicious qi of Dou and Niu." The Commentary on the Changes also says that the paths of the sun and the five stars begin from the constellation Niou, which is indeed credible.

"The Secret Repository of Literature": This refers to the Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Purple气, and Rahu being in the Triple Harmony positions and mutually opposing, with the命宫 located in theHai Palace. TheHai Palace contains Jupiter, which represents diagrams and documents, being the star that governs the repository of literature and texts. It signifies a person with abundant knowledge and exceptional insight, and also great fortune. In the tenth month, the cold air gradually increases, surpassing the乾位 and the beginning of the heavenly dimension, and rising to the heavens. The Milky Way extends continuously to between the constellations Yingshi and Dongbei, where the ascending air reaches its limit. From Wangliang and Ge Dao stars, passing through the Purple Micro垣 across the Milky Way, it reaches above Yingshi, which is precisely the imperial palace of the heavenly emperor. Therefore, when the stars of gold, water, wood, sun, moon, and Ji Du gather in this palace, the image of "Secret Repository of Literature" appears, precisely because it is close to the imperial palace.

"The Five Stars Converging Toward the Dipper": When the five stars gather in the Double Fish Palace, which is theHai Palace, it signifies the appearance of ministers and high officials; if only one or two stars are located in front or behind, it is still considered valid. In any case, the Sun, Moon, Wood, Metal, and Water stars all reside in theHai Palace, the Double Fish Palace. Since亥is the heavenly gate, the dwelling place of the Heavenly Emperor, when all the stars gather here to guard the Northern Pole, it is called the Five Stars Converging Toward the Dipper. The term "Dipper" refers to the Big Dipper, which consists of the seven stars surrounding and guarding the Purple Micro Enclosure. Below the Dipper are the Three Throned Stars, the Wen Chang Star, as well as the officials such as the Minister of State, the Four Assistants, and the Chief Minister. All five stars converge toward this place, indicating the ruler will enjoy the honor of high-ranking officials and ministers.

"孛于东井" refers to the moon孛 falling in the Wei palace, and someone born at night with their命宫 also placed in the Wei palace, indicating a noble and powerful destiny. In ancient times, the world was peaceful, with the sun never experiencing solar eclipses and stars never showing孛气. This shows that the moon孛 usually follows the heavens and remains hidden. When it becomes angry and appears, it transforms into a comet, which once appearing, causes all the stars to lose their brightness. This star is fierce in nature, changeable, and carries authority, always preferring to occupy the central position of the Yellow Path. Therefore, when it appears over the East Well mansion, it becomes a auspicious star, hence the saying "孛于东井."

"First, the dragon's horn is carried": The constellations Jiao and Kang are the two horns of the eastern azure dragon. Luo Hui is the celestial leader of the meeting point of heaven, known as the "heavenly head" deity. It resides in the Chen palace, just as a dragon has a head, with Jiao and Kang supporting it on both sides, exactly serving as its horns. Those whose destiny palace is in the Chen palace and also have Luo Hui in the same palace will achieve great honor and success in their lives. Luo Hui is the star of the heavenly head, belonging to the fire element. It is the star that governs heavenly authority and oversees the overall order of heaven. It is most powerful in the Chen palace, enjoys comfort in the Yin palace, and finds joy in the Mao palace, which is taken to mean "the dragon's tail lies on the Chen." It also thrives in the Wu position, because when it meets the sun and moon, it can devour their light, just like a hegemon monopolizes power. Therefore, it is called "First, the dragon's horn is carried." (Note: the second character of "Luo?" in the original text is missing, which should be Luo Hui.)

"The position of Ji Ju in the Dragon's Tail": The four stars of the Tail Mansion are the tail of the Azure Dragon. Ji Du is the celestial body that marks the meeting of the dragon's tail, known as the "celestial tail" deity. When Ji Du is located in the position of the寅 (Yin) mansion, it is as if the dragon has a tail, and with the assistance of the four stars of the Tail Mansion, it becomes a true dragon. The two sections above, "the leader carries the dragon's horn" and this one, "Ji Du resides in the dragon's tail," both indicate a high position and great responsibility. If a person's destiny is in the寅 (Yin) mansion and encounters Ji Du, it is referred to as "Ji Du resides in the dragon's tail." If Luo Hou and Ji Du stars are directly opposite each other and are located along the Yellow Path, this signifies that ministers are obstructing the sovereign's wisdom, causing the sun to be eclipsed. The sun belongs to yang and should not be eclipsed when it is in a yang position. Therefore, when Luo Hou and Ji Du are in a yang position, it is considered auspicious; however, if they move into a yin position, it becomes inauspicious. A day has twelve earthly branches, from寅 (Yin) to午 (Wu) are yang, and from未 (Wei) to亥 (Hai) are yin. Therefore, Luo Hou in寅 (Yin),卯 (Mao),辰 (Chen),巳 (Si), or午 (Wu) is considered a fortunate star. Ji Du located in the Dragon's Tail or the鹑 (Chun) Tail mansion is also considered a favorable mansion.

"The Yin and Yang Classification": This refers to stars of the same Yin or Yang nature being in the same palace, and each also occupying a favorable position, with auspicious stars of the same type illuminating the natal palace and the body palace. The "Zhou Changes" (I Ching) "Qian Hexagram · Wenyan" says, "Water flows to moist places, fire approaches dry places," meaning all things naturally follow their own kind. If the natal palace is in Wu and receives the Sun and Mars in the same palace, or if the body palace is in Wei and receives the Venus and Mercury in the same palace, there is no failure to achieve success. This is because Yang stars follow Yang stars, and Yin stars gather with Yin stars, sharing the same nature and thus harmonizing with each other.

"The phrase 'All stars circle the North' refers to the idea that the North Star remains fixed while other stars revolve around it. Confucius mentioned this in the Analects, saying that the North Star stays in its place while all other stars orbit around it. The North Star is located at the northernmost point of the sky, corresponding to the Earthly Branch 'Zi' (Rat). The eleven luminaries are distributed among different palaces, with the palace of 'Zi' left empty to allow all the stars to circle around it. The命宫 (destiny palace) is then placed at the 'Zi' position. For example, if the Sun, Mercury, Ji Du, Jupiter, Venus, and Tai Yin are in the亥宫 (Hai palace), and the Mars, Saturn, and Zi Qi are in the丑宫 (Chou palace), they all circle around the Zi position. Alternatively, if the stars are scattered across different palaces and surround the Zi position from all sides, leaving the Zi position empty and placing the命宫 there, it also counts. These are all extremely auspicious birth charts."

"The 'Mao Tou Zhi Zheng' (Direct Opposition of the Flag Head)" refers to the celestial spirit Luo Hui, which is the leader of the heavenly spirits, located in the You palace, where the mansion of Maomou (Hairy Head) is situated. This is the so-called 'Mao Tou'Inauspicious Sha (malevolent killing star) in the heavens. If the命宫 (destiny palace) is located in the You palace and encounters Luo Hui, and further has one or two more evil stars, the calamity will be most severe. The mansions of Maomou and Bi, although belonging to the second rank of Daliang, their territory is in the area of Changshan, extending southeast to the land of Mao Tou, all located beyond the Yellow River in the land of the Yin states. If someone is born during the day, with the planet Mars and Luo Hui both pressing upon this area, and the命宫 (destiny palace) is located here facing away from the sunlight, it indicates an inauspicious outcome. Therefore, it is called 'Mao Tou Zhi Zheng'. Since thisInauspicious Sha (malevolent killing star) is originally the star associated with foreign military disasters, when human life collides with it, the result is either an untimely death or being exiled to serve in the military. This pattern belongs to the category of忌格 (forbidden patterns).

"The Star of Longevity and Brightness Enters the Destiny": The morning star in the east is an image of the water star, while the evening star in the west is an image of the bright golden star. In ancient times, Li Taibai's mother dreamed of the star of longevity and brightness entering her arms. The moon represents the mother's path, which is also the fundamental origin of the human body. Therefore, those born at night with the golden star and the moon together in the You palace exactly match this pattern. Li Taibai's mother dreamed of the star of longevity and brightness entering her arms, and upon waking, she became pregnant and gave birth to Li Bai. Hence, he was named "Bai" and given the style name "Taibai," later becoming the supreme poet of the world. From this, we can see that when the star of longevity and brightness enters the destiny, it necessarily produces a rare and extraordinary talent.

"The Divine Sheep Repelling Evil": The Wei palace is the territory of the Juxie, which is a mythical beast resembling a sheep. When it encounters evil, it uses its horn to push against it. In ancient times, emperors placed its image in the palace courtyard to warn against disloyal ministers. If the Moon孛 is in the Wei palace and the命宫 is also in the Wei palace, with no harmful stars mixed in, it indicates great fortune. If one does not deviate from the light of the sun and moon and places the命宫 in the Xu palace, which is the position of the White Sheep, it is also considered acceptable.

The deity Taiyi resides in the Purple Micro Enclosure, moving eastward along the celestial equator. It guards against evil, eliminates wickedness, promotes goodness, and protects the loyal. Therefore, when it encounters good stars, it manifests good qualities, and when it meets evil stars, it shows evil traits. It particularly favors residing in the Xiezhi Palace, which is then called "Jin Yang." Upon seeing any evil or corruption, it will not hesitate to confront it head-on. Those whose fate is in the Wei Palace and have the Moon孛 entering the same palace are naturally loyal and upright. They are direct in pointing out others' faults and cannot keep their thoughts hidden, hence they are called "Shen Yang Chu Xie." Those born in the year of Yi, if they have the Moon孛 along with the Wood Star and Metal Star in the Wei Palace, can attain official positions as Cishi or even the Three Grand Ministers.

"Rise from Fusuang": The卯 (Mao) is the gate where the sun rises and sets, and it is the legendary place of Yanggu, Fusuang. When the sun is seated in the Mao palace and there are no harmful stars from the opposite palace coming to shine upon it, and the native's命宫 (destiny palace) is also in the Mao palace, it indicates a noble destiny. Although Mao is indeed the gate of the sun, during the period around the summer solstice, the sun often rises from the Fusuang water palace, so in the early morning, the sun is actually still in the寅 (Yin) palace. Therefore, if a person's Jupiter and sun are both in the Yin palace, and their命宫 is also in the Yin palace, it is equally a noble destiny, following the same principle as being in the Mao palace.

"The stars of Ji are favorable for wind": When the sun is about to rise, a clear breeze arises, and the gathering of yin energies retreats. This shows that the sun brings wind at sunrise and no wind at sunset. When the sun is in the Dou and Yin mansions, and the命宫 (destiny palace) is also in Dou or Yin, those born in the morning are destined for fame and reputation. However, if there are evil stars mixed in, they may lead to licentiousness. When the Taiyin (moon) reaches the Ji mansion, it also brings wind, but this is actually unfavorable. Wind rises with the tiger, following the principle of mutual correspondence; since Yin is associated with the tiger, the wind follows the sun. However, the Yin mansion originally includes the Tail, Ji, and Dipper mansions. So why is it specifically said that "the stars of Ji are favorable for wind"? Because the Tail mansion's degrees belong to the Mao mansion, and the Dipper mansion's degrees belong to the Chou mansion. Only the Ji mansion is precisely located in the Yin mansion. Therefore, it is said "the stars of Ji are favorable for wind." If a person's destiny is accompanied by the Jiu (wood star) and the Jixi (wood star) in this mansion, it is considered auspicious. Moreover, since Yin is of the wood element, and wood can generate wind, when a person's destiny encounters this, how could they not achieve great reputation and widespread recognition?

"The Star of the Net Prefers Rain": The Book of Songs, Xiao Ya, "Gradually the Stone" says that when the moon approaches the Net mansion, torrential rain will fall. The Book of Documents, Hong Fan, also mentions that among the stars, some favor wind and others favor rain. When the Tai Yin reaches the degree of the Net mansion, and the destiny palace is in the You palace, this is considered a favorable pattern. If during July or August there is a drought, and suddenly a sweet rain falls, benefiting all people, at this time if the Water star also assists, even if the destiny palace is in the Chen palace, it is still very good. However, if one is born in March or April, which are the times of heavy rain and overflowing rivers, then one's fate can only be seen as wandering and unsettled.

Those who explain the movement of the sun and moon often use rain and wind to interpret when they deviate from their normal course, and thus conclude it as an omen of misfortune. They do not understand that the moon follows the star mansion according to its preferred stars; the rain from the Net mansion nourishes all things, so how can it be considered an omen of misfortune? If a person's natal palace is placed within the degree of the Net mansion and no malevolent stars or evil mansions intrude, it can nurture the people and benefit the world, making it a fortunate destiny; but if malevolent celestial bodies enter, then it becomes inauspicious.

"The Moon in the Dipper Mansion": Han Yu mentioned in his poem "San Xing Xing" that when he was born, the moon was stationed in the Dipper mansion. Su Dongpo also said that his natal palace was in the Capricorn mansion, indicating that when the moon is in the Dipper mansion, it is easy to produce literary talents. The "Book of Songs · Xiao Ya · Da Dong" says that although there is the Dipper mansion in the northern sky, it cannot scoop up wine or soup, which is an omen of causing disputes and attracting slander. Han Yu and Su Dongpo, both gentlemen, were not exempt from this, hence saying that gentlemen often face setbacks in their official careers.

"The Five Spirits in Command": Those born in spring, seeing the planet Jupiter in寅 or卯 with their命宫 resting upon it, have the Azure Dragon in charge; those born in summer, seeing the planet Mars in巳 or午 with their命宫 resting upon it, have the Vermilion Bird in command; those born in autumn, seeing the planet Venus in申 or酉 with their命宫 resting upon it, have the White Tiger in charge; those born in winter, seeing the planet Mercury in亥 or子 with their命宫 resting upon it, have the Black Tortoise in command; those born in the months when earth is strong, seeing the planet Saturn in辰, 戌, 丑, or 未 with their命宫 resting upon it, have Gou Chen in position. All of these must not contradict the light of the sun and moon, and those born at day and night must each be appropriate, which is considered excellent.

"Left and right encircling": If a person's命宫 is guarded by the five stars surrounding it on all four sides, there is no way they can remain obscure. For example, if the命宫 is located at the fifth degree of 壁宿, and the planet Jupiter is at the first degree of 壁宿, that is the left side's Azure Dragon; if the planet Saturn is at the ninth degree of Wall mansion, that is the right side's 白虎; if the planet Mars is at the first degree of 奎宿, that is the front's Vermilion Bird; if the planet Mercury is at the sixteenth degree of Encampment mansion, that is the back's Black Tortoise. In this way, the four stars are arranged around, truly like arms embracing from both sides. In reality, it is not necessary for the stars to be so close. As long as they are distributed within the four directions around the命宫, it is still a rare and good configuration. Such a person is bound to achieve honor, prosperity, and wealth.

"The Moon Supports the Handle of the Dipper": Whenever the month's Month Builder is located in a particular earthly branch, that branch represents the direction pointed to by the handle of the Big Dipper's handle, known as the Qiu Star. Only during a leap month does the handle of the Dipper point between two earthly branches. If the Taiyin is exactly positioned at the Month Builder's location, it matches this pattern. There are twelve seasonal divisions in a year, and the handle of the Dipper follows the Month Builder, shifting each month. During a leap month, the handle of the Dipper points between two branches, and the rise and fall of tides also change accordingly. From this, we can understand the waxing and waning, fullness and emptiness of yin and yang in heaven and earth, which correspond precisely like a measuring tool, without any error.

The movement of the sun and moon, along with the direction indicated by the handle of the Big Dipper, form a system of meridians and latitudes. If a person's destiny and body position are correctly aligned with the zodiac sign pointed to by the handle of the Big Dipper at the time of birth, it is called "the moon supports the handle of the Big Dipper." For example, those born in the first lunar month have their body palace located in寅, those born in the second lunar month in卯, and those born in the third lunar month in辰, all fall into this pattern and are destined for prosperity and wealth. However, one must also consider the Moon's position: if the Moon is in a favorable star's palace, it is auspicious; but if it is disturbed by the planet of earth, the moon's shadow, Rahu, or Ketu, it becomes inauspicious. Therefore, it cannot be judged in a general way.

"Wind Generates Waves" : Those born on the 8th or 23rd day of the lunar month at noon are mostly cunning and fierce. Because the 8th and 23rd days at noon mark the time when the waxing and waning moon is forming, like the sea where winds rise and waves surge, hence the name. However, one must also calculate where the Moon is located on the day of the waxing or waning moon to determine whether the person is good or bad. If the Moon meets auspicious stars, the person will have authority and courage; if the Moon meets inauspicious stars, the person will be fierce and cruel, destined for military exile. If no stars are present, it indicates a life of hardship and poverty, like waves hitting in the wind, never finding peace. This pattern is considered a forbidden one.

"The禄马同乡" refers to the禄 star and the马 star both shining over the命宫. Old texts say that the马 star signifies nobility and the禄 star signifies official rank. The仁 star is determined by matching the heavenly stem of the birth year, which is certain without doubt; the寿 star is obtained from theNayin sound element of the birth year. These stars must all shine over a strong palace and come along with the running years to be effective. People's destinies are most favorable when the禄 and马 stars both fall into a strong palace to illuminate their命, in which case they are unlikely to fail to hold high official positions; even if the禄 and马 stars do not illuminate the命宫, as long as they can assist the running years, they can still bring good fortune.

"The phrase 'Tiger Occupies the Dragon's Spine' refers to the situation where Jupiter, representing the Eastern Azure Dragon, and Venus, representing the Western White Tiger, are in specific positions. If Venus is at the命宫 (destiny palace) and Jupiter is shining from the opposite palace, and the person is born at night, this is called 'Dragon Coiling and Tiger Occupying.' When both Jupiter and Venus are in the命宫, it is also called 'Dragon and Tiger Crossing.' If the person is born in the寅 or 辰 palace, it is even more favorable. For example, if the命宫 is in the子 or 午 palace, and Venus is in the酉 while Jupiter is in the卯, all four cardinal directions are occupied, perfectly matching this pattern. Since wood represents the Azure Dragon in the East and metal represents the White Tiger in the West, one is in the four palaces before the命宫 and the other is in the four palaces after the命宫, shining from a distance, how can this not be a noble destiny?"

"Li Kan Jiao Hui": The water star receives the energy of the Northern Kan palace, and the fire star receives the energy of the Southern Li palace. Those born at night have the fire star in their destiny and the water star shining directly from the opposite palace, which matches this pattern. This pattern indicates a person with an imposing presence, full of spirit and discipline, capable of handling complex government affairs and enjoying a prosperous official position. However, if the water and fire stars are closely grouped together in the destiny palace, they become conflicting stars, leading to misfortune and troubles instead.

"Yin and Yang Interact and Support Each Other": The sun is the sovereign of yang, and the moon is the queen of yin. If the sun and moon are accompanied by auspicious stars and the命宫 is positioned between them, it is considered favorable. However, if malevolent stars are in the same palace as the sun and moon, they will not bring good fortune but instead cause misfortune. "Leading Alone at the Dragon Head": Those born in the first three months of spring have their命宫 located in the寅 or卯 palaces, and if there is a planet of wood above寅 and卯, this indicates being in the right time, place, and position, thus leading alone at the dragon head, naturally taking the initiative. The previously mentioned "Azure Dragon Holds Authority" means the same thing.

"Zǐ xíng fù zhèng" (the son carries out the father's duties): The sun is the essence of fire, and the moon is the assistant of water, so the sun represents the father and the fire star represents the son, the moon represents the mother and the water star represents the son. The sun's ideal position is in the午 (Wu) palace, where it should reside itself; now the sun is in the子 (Zi) palace, while the fire star is in the午 palace. If the命宫 (destiny palace) is also in the午 palace, this becomes a situation where the son carries out the father's duties. Similarly, the moon's ideal position is in the未 (Wei) palace, where it should reside itself; now the moon is in the丑 (Chou) palace, while the water star is in the未 palace. If the命宫 is also in the未 palace, it is the same situation of "the son carrying out the father's duties." This pattern indicates that the person will face initial difficulties but eventually enjoy ease and happiness, as he has taken on the responsibility of managing family affairs at an early age.

"The Three Thrones Supporting the Dipper": When the Dipper mansion is in the Ox mansion, and the native's命宫 is also in the Ox mansion, and the Three Thrones star is in the same mansion, this is considered this pattern. If the three mansions before and after the Ox mansion each have two stars supporting and flanking, it is also counted the same. There are also other patterns called "Three Thrones Supporting the Sun" and "Three Thrones Supporting the Moon," which are treated in the same way. Any mention of the Three Thrones refers to the symbol of the Three Ministers, and those who possess this in their destiny can attain the rank of the Three Ministers. "Purple Micro and Four Ministers": As the celestial wheel turns, there is one auspicious star in each of the four mansions of the Dragon, Snake, Horse, and Goat. If the native's命宫 is located between the Snake and Horse mansions, this is considered this pattern. The Ministers star symbolizes assistance and support, and those who possess this pattern are destined for positions of prime ministerial rank.

"Spirit and Vitality Are Complete": The heavenly number one corresponds to water, which in the human body is called "vital essence"; the earthly number two corresponds to fire, which in the human body is called "spirit." When water and fire each occupy their proper position and harmoniously support each other, a person's life is said to have complete spirit and vitality. Vital essence nourishes life, while spirit nourishes the form: vital essence moves internally to nourish life, and spirit moves externally to nourish the form. Internally it belongs to yin, externally to yang. Therefore, water is the yin essence, and fire is the yang spirit. Yin cannot exist without yang, and yang cannot exist without yin. If the water star is born together with the命宫 (life palace) in the daytime, and the fire star is born together with the命宫 at night, they look toward each other yet each maintains its proper position, how could one not receive great blessings?

"The Moonlight Golden Palace": When the planet Venus is in the亥 (Hai) palace and shares the palace with the Moon, or when Venus is in the辰 (Chen) palace and shares the palace with the Moon, it is called the Moonlight Golden Palace. If Venus is in the亥 or辰 palace and shares the palace with the Sun, it is called the Sunlight Golden Palace. Both of these patterns indicate wealth and honor. "The Sun with the Star in the Middle": When the Sun and the planet Rahu meet in the未 (Wei) palace, and the Moon is also in the Wei palace, it is called the Sun with the Star in the Middle. The Sun and Moon sharing the same palace indicates that the day is the new moon; and their conjunction with Rahu indicates an eclipse. Moreover, the Sun in the Wei palace is already west of noon, so if the命宫 (destiny palace) is exactly placed here and an eclipse occurs, it would be the case of someone born on the first day of the sixth lunar month: since the daylight is darkened, the Big Dipper appears in the east, and the person's destiny palace is in the north, how can it be auspicious? If there are five stars gathered in the Wei palace to resist external troubles, it might still be somewhat salvaged; otherwise, strange calamities will befall, which is truly terrifying. This pattern belongs to the category of inauspicious patterns.

"Light enters the earth": When the sun reaches the hours of Shen and You, it sets in the west and is devoured by Luo Hui, and if the命宫 (destiny palace) is precisely located in Shen or You, this is this pattern. The sun is originally the sovereign star; when it reaches Shen and You and sets in the west, it has already lost its position of authority; if the命宫 is located here, it is inherently weak, and with further consumption by Luo Hui, can it even protect itself? When a person's destiny encounters such a situation, it not only leads to the destruction of ancestral property and failure in all endeavors, but also fears entanglement in ambiguous disputes, leading to death. This pattern is considered a harmful one. "Light emerges from the earth": If the命宫 is in Shen and the sun is in Yin, or the命宫 is in You and the sun is in Mao, or the命宫 is in Xu and the sun is in Chen, these are all called "Light emerges from the earth," taking the meaning of the "Progress" hexagram, which signifies light emerging from the earth. This pattern requires the assistance of the metal star and water star accompanying the sun, or the presence of metal and water preceding to guide, only then can it be considered a noble pattern.

"The image of 'wood above water well': if the water star enters a certain palace first and the wood star enters the same palace later, or if the wood star enters first and the water star enters later, it forms the image of the Well hexagram. If this palace is exactly the Wei palace where the East Well is located, and the native's命宫 (destiny palace) is also in the Wei palace, this person will certainly have a pure and integrated spiritual insight, consistent moral conduct, and thus enjoy heavenly bestowed salary. The well remains in its original place without moving, which represents the virtue of the earth; wood on water signifies an endless source of nourishment. Some people have the wood star also in the Wei palace, while the water star comes from the Hai palace opposite, which also counts as the 'wood above water well' pattern."

This is because theHai Palace is located below and naturally has the image of a well. However, the celestial Well Mansion is a different matter: it is situated in the center of the Milky Way, covering thirty degrees, which is longer than the degrees of other mansions. It spans across the two star divisions, Shí Chén and Chún Shǒu, each taking up half. The planet Mercury is called 'Lè Gōng' in the Shí Chén division and 'Rù Miào' in the Chún Shǒu division, both of which imply an inexhaustible source of nourishment. Some people have questioned: since Shí Chén and Chún Shǒu belong to two different star divisions and are separated by a boundary, how can they still be considered as providing continuous nourishment?

This shows a lack of understanding of the ancients' statements: the purple qi is the residual energy of Jupiter, and its dwelling place is Shishen; the moon's hair is the residual energy of Mercury, and its dwelling place is Chenshou. Thus, Shishen and Chenshou are the "wood and water well," meaning the nourishment is inexhaustible. If a person's命宫 (destiny palace) has both purple qi and Jupiter in Shishen, or the moon's hair and Mercury in Chenshou, it is considered to conform to this pattern. It must have no malevolent stars to indicate nobility; if malevolent stars are mixed in, it would only result in a monk or a Taoist.

"The Stars Surround the Moon": If born at night with the moon in the position of the Earth (Kun), and the five stars surrounding the Moon, and the命宫 (destiny palace) also located in the same position as the Moon, then this pattern is formed. The Moon's movement follows nine paths, and it moves the fastest; originally, the stars cannot remain around it. However, the North Star is fixed and does not move, so the stars can surround it. Since the Moon moves quickly, it can only follow the stars, and this leads to the signs of wind and rain.

In the year Gengwu, on the fifth day of the second lunar month in the evening, the moon entered the Southern Dipper. That year, from the eighth month onward, there was drought with no rain. According to the Yellow Path, on the seventeenth day the moon followed the Yellow Path into the Net mansion, and it was predicted that it would rain that day. Indeed, that day there was a heavy downpour, which was the verification of the moon following the star mansions. However, on the fifth day of the eleventh lunar month, the moon was thirty degrees into the Southern Dipper, and on the twenty-first day it passed through the same degree of the Net mansion again, yet there was no rain. This was because the moon took a different path among the nine paths. Now, when it is said "many stars surround the moon," one must also consider the fortune or misfortune of the stars surrounding the moon in order to judge the good or bad fortune of human affairs.

For example, if the moon is conjuncted with Jupiter, it indicates literary excellence and beauty; if conjuncted with Mars, it suggests frequent illness; if conjuncted with Rahu and Ketu, it indicates a short life and early death. One must examine the palace and star mansion where it is located to make a precise judgment. If the moon is surrounded by auspicious stars on all sides, then even if the moon has not yet officially joined a particular star mansion, it still indicates great fortune.

"Gold resides in the dry position": TheHai Palace is in the Northwest, which is the Qian trigram of the Eight Trigrams. The Qian trigram belongs to the Metal element, and the planet of Metal also happens to be in theHai Palace, forming this pattern. Those born in the year of Wu and the year of Shen benefit most from "Gold resides in the dry position." Because the Wu宫 belongs to the Well mansion and the Ghost mansion, with its territory in the state of Qin; the Shen宫 belongs to the Turtle Beak mansion and the Three Stars mansion, with its territory in the state of Jin. Being able to receive the pure essence of Metal and Water, and having the planet of Wood and the Sun also residing in theHai Palace, constitutes "Gold resides in the dry position." As long as there is no intrusion by the planet of Fire, Ji Du, Luo Hou, or Yue Bo, it is considered a noble destiny.

"Water flows toward the southeast": The Trigram Xun (Wind) is located in the position of Si, which corresponds to the southeast. Water from all four directions ultimately converges toward the direction governed by Ji Xu (Winnowing Basket mansion). Although there are the Bohai Sea to the north, the great sea to the south, and shifting sands to the west, water ultimately flows into the East Sea because the terrain is lowest in the southeast. The planet of water is in the Si palace, and the planet of wood and the native's palace are both in the寅 palace, which matches this pattern. Since water flows naturally downward, its blessings flow continuously, and this person is destined for great success.

Those born in the Year of You and those born in the Year of Yin, if they have the Water Star in Si and the Wood Star and the命宫 in Yin, form this pattern. Because the Yin palace belongs to the Tail Mansion, and the Tail Mansion's territory is in Yan; the You palace belongs to the Net Mansion, and the Net Mansion's territory is in Zhao. These two regions alone receive the pure essence of water, and water flows into the Xun direction, meaning water has a place to settle. Moreover, if the Water Star and the Wood Star, along with the命宫, are all in the Yin palace, or if the Wood Star and the命宫 along with those born in the Year of You are in the You palace, and the Water Star and the Sun Star occupy the four cardinal palaces of Zi, Wu, Mao, and You, then they form another pattern called "Water Returning to the Gate."

"Renewing the old and bringing forth the new": The moon孛 is a celestial comet, symbolizing the concept of removing the old and establishing the new. Where it appears, there is change and transformation. This star resembles a broom (the character here is missing in the original text), thus capable of sweeping away dust, dirt, and impurities, replacing the old with the new. If this star is in the亥 (Hai) palace and a person is born in the first lunar month, or if it is in the丑 (Chou) palace and a person is born in the eleventh lunar month, this is considered a special pattern. This is because, in the twelfth lunar month, the first yang energy begins to emerge, marking the beginning of change from the Chou palace; then, in the first lunar month, the sun begins its course in the Hai palace. Alternatively, if the moon孛 is in the未 (Wei) palace and a person is born in the seventh lunar month, this is also considered, as the seventh lunar month marks the beginning of autumn's energy, which corresponds to the image of the "Gǔ" hexagram's phrase "three days before the庚 (Geng)" which implies the idea of renewal and transformation.

For example, if someone is born on the first day of the eleventh lunar month, the sun and moon are both at the beginning of the Dipper mansion, and Jupiter is moving forward into the Encampment mansion. This also signifies replacing the old with the new. Because the sun and moon begin their path in the Dipper mansion, and Jupiter begins its path in the Encampment mansion; the beginning of the Dipper mansion is in the Sagittarius sign, which is theYin Palace, and the beginning of the Encampment mansion is in the Pisces sign, which is theHai Palace. 寅 and 亥 combine, forming a very noble configuration, which also contains the meaning of replacing the old with the new.

"Fire and Water Not Yet United": When the planet of fire enters a certain palace first, and the planet of water follows and enters the same palace, with both stars residing in the same palace to illuminate the destiny, this is this pattern. Fire has a nature of ascending and burning, while water has a nature of descending and flowing. They are opposite to each other and do not face each other, so how can they harmonize and unite? Therefore, the "Zhou Changes · Xu Gua" states that "not yet united" represents the image of a man inpredicament and poverty. Those with this pattern in their destiny are prone to poverty and lowly status. This pattern is considered an inauspicious one.

"Ji Ji" (Hexagram 63): When the water star enters a certain palace first and the fire star follows into the same palace, and both stars reside together to illuminate the destiny, this is the pattern. Water is moist and descends, while fire is hot and ascends; they interact with each other above and below without conflicting. It is most undesirable for one or two evil stars to intrude, as this would bring misfortune. If the water star also serves as the palace master, destiny master, or fortune master, then the blessings are greatest, indicating a destiny of both wealth and honor.
