Ghost sees ghost
Charting guides: BaZi Chart Calculator
For example, if the Dipper mansion (斗宿) wood is used to determine the natal position, and during the life span limit (行限) it comes to the Neck mansion (亢宿) metal, it is already out of order. If further, the flowing year's metal star comes from the Triple Harmony direction to interfere with this limit, then it is certain to be fatal. Even in lighter cases, there will be imprisonment and destruction of family and business. The conclusion will not be wrong. The rhyme says: if a ghost appears again among ghosts, and if it is combined with a criminal star, the great limit will definitely cause collapse. If during the flowing year's limit, a star that controls me appears again, nine out of ten will die, and there is no mercy. A ghost is a killer, and a killer is a ghost. If the main star is strong, encountering it is considered a killer; if the main star is weak, encountering it becomes a ghost. Imprisonment refers to the ancient prison.
It is beneficial to add profit.
Whenever the palace master, degree master, or self master fall into the birth chart of the person being considered, it is like receiving the protection and blessings of one's parents. Similarly, if during a certain period the person comes into contact with the star of favor and it is harmonious with them, it should be interpreted as a sign of success and wealth. For example, if Jupiter is in the position of the water host and the water star is in the position of the wood degree, and the wood is the palace master or degree master, this is called "beneficial addition." The rhyme says: "Beneficial addition means encountering the star of favor, the source of living water nourishing me, causing a sudden surge of spirit; wealth and honor are what everyone desires, and it can also make one clever and mentally sharp." The so-called star of favor refers to the parents who give birth to me. When the three masters pass through it, it is like standing under the protection of one's parents. It is like a tree having its roots or water having its source, which is not bringing benefit and grace to people.
Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches
The heavenly stem before the Tai Su is the Sky Harm, and the heavenly stem after the Tai Su is the Mo Yue Sha. If the six Jia periods are empty and the person's body palace and life palace are also empty, and then the limit reaches the empty position of the current year, and the palace ruler and degree ruler are among them, this is the most to be avoided, and death is certain. The rhyme says: The Sky Harm and Tai Su are the most凶恶, the palace ruler, body ruler, and degree ruler should not meet with them; if they are repeated and the current year's empty position is included and enters the life limit, it is known that one will die young like Yan Hui. What is meant by the Sky Harm before the Tai Su, the six Jia period empty, and the current year's empty position, when the three main stars and limits arrive, death will occur immediately.
Supporting the Yang trend
Five stars that assist the sun and can be used for my benefit are most auspicious. If the ruler of the palace, the ruler of the degree, or the ruler of the body comes to support the sun, it is even more favorable. However, if a star that harms the palace of the body, the palace of destiny, or the degree of destiny approaches the sun, then it should be interpreted according to the signs of premature death and illness. The song says: "Supporting the sun and also generating and assisting my native nayin sound element brings endless blessings; do not let a star that harms me come to the forefront; if the degree of destiny faces the sun, it brings prosperity, but if the killer star comes along with the trend, it shortens one's life."所谓 "support" means that the stars that assist me and follow the sun are auspicious; if a star that harms me meets the killer star and comes to the forefront, it is certain death.所谓 "being born in the year" means that the nayin sound element should be favored to be born, not to be harmed.
Three Eliminations of the Pass of Guan
The so-called three gates refer to the initial gate, the middle gate, and the final gate. When one first enters a limit, it is called the initial gate; when one is halfway through, it is called the middle gate; and when one is nearing the end, it is called the final gate. This division is based on the entry and exit of the limit. For example, if one's limit reaches the degree of the eleventh in the mansion of the uterus and the rooftop, that is the initial gate; if it reaches the fifth degree of the mansion of emptiness, that is the middle gate; and if it reaches the second degree of the mansion of the girl, that is the final gate. If a killing star or the Yang Blade is in the initial gate, the person will surely die after the current month's solar term; if it is in the final gate, the person will surely die before the current month's solar term; if it is in the middle gate, the person will die on the day of the solar term change. This is only a general example to illustrate that one can use this to make detailed calculations. The verse says: judging the path and degree is like walking through a dangerous mountain pass; on such a dangerous path, one must not meet the Tai Sui again. If the flowing year's star does not clash or overcome, one will still meet the阎王 on the Yellow Spring Road. It also says: those with metal and wood destinies should avoid the mansion of the star and its degree; those with water and earth destinies should avoid the mansion of the well and its wooden degree, or the place of the Southern Dipper; the sun and moon should avoid the mansion of the stomach and its earth degree.
The Explanation of the Yuanmiao Jing and the Forty-Two Detailed Discussions

The last two lines state that the yin and yang are at the four cardinal directions, with 'Ruo' at the beginning and 'Ji Du' at the end, sharing the four cardinal positions with the sun and moon, while the red star, Ruo, Ji Du, and Yue Bo each guard the corners of the four cardinal directions.
The distribution is according to the classics, with all twelve palace stars forming a favorable and noble configuration.

Enter the hall and enter the temple.
The seven celestial bodies each have their own temples and shrines. Whenever the ruling star or the命宫 (destiny palace) is located in these temples or shrines, it is called "ascending to the temple and entering the shrine." The most favorable situation is when the sun and moon both face towards the same direction, which is like me approaching the king, thus attaining high rank and honor. The classics say: the temple of the sun is located between the eighth to thirteenth degrees of the constellation Qiu; the temple of the moon is located between the eighth to thirteenth degrees of the constellation Lou, and its secondary temple is between the ninth to first degree of the constellation Bi; the temple of Jupiter is located in the degrees of the constellation Jiao; the temple of Mars is located between the second to third degrees of the constellation Xin and the fourth degree to the first degree of the constellation Fang, with its secondary temple in the fourth to first degree of the constellation Fang; the temple of Saturn is located between the fifteenth to twenty-first degrees of the constellation Dou; the temple of Venus is located between the fifth to ninth degrees of the constellation Kang; the temple of Mercury is located between the eighth to thirteenth degrees of the constellation Yi; the temple of "Zi Qi" is located between the eleventh to fifteenth degrees of the constellation Qiu, and its secondary temple is in the constellation Zi; the temple of "Yue Bo" is located between the third to fifth degrees of the constellation Xing; the temple of "Ji Du" is located between the thirteenth to sixteenth degrees of the constellation Zhen, and its secondary temple is between the fourth to seventh degrees of the constellation Bi.
All celestial stars that enter the temple, ascend the hall, and enter the celestial boundary, are like officials standing in the court, which is considered a superior destiny. It is essential for all stars to be within the celestial boundary so that the official position becomes prominent, allowing one to hold prestigious posts such as the Three Palaces, Eight Seats, and the Hanlin Academy. If the destiny is high but the stars do not enter the boundary, then even though there may be salary and official rank, one can only reach middle or lower ranks, and never attain the highest level of prestige.
The celestial stem is in a position of leakage and discharge, and it resides in a place of anger.
The term "chán xiè" refers to situations where a planet is in the degree of another element it is not compatible with, such as Saturn in the degree of metal, Jupiter in the degree of fire, Venus in the degree of wood, and Mars in the degree of earth. When Jupiter meets fire or Mars meets earth, these are also considered cases of "xiè qi" (loss of energy). The term "jū chēn" refers to situations like wood hitting a water jar, a dry spring in a bull's valley, metal riding on a horse, earth burying two women, and wood touching a golden dragon. There are also cases such as the planet of metal being troubled by fire, fire entering the land of metal, metal and fire being in the same palace, water flowing into the constellation of Cancer, fire burning the horn of a bull, and water floating a white sheep. Therefore, "jū chēn" is only giving a few examples, and there are other cases of "jū chēn" that should be examined carefully for each star. "Xiè" refers to the element I generate being drained, thus losing my energy and spirit. "Chēn" refers to me attacking another element, which results in a conflict and does not benefit the matter.
Losing the right time but gaining the proper command.
For instance, the earth of spring, the metal of summer, the wood of autumn, the fire of winter, the Mars of day, the RuoHou and TaiYin of day, and the Saturn, Jupiter, and Sun of night are all considered to be out of season. Similarly, the water star and the MoonBo of winter are too cold and should not be in the same position as TaiYin, nor should they be the ruling star, leading to the ruler being very poor. Being in season is like the wood of spring, the fire of summer, the metal of autumn, the water of winter, the Sun, Saturn, and Jupiter of day, the TaiYin, Mars, RuoHou, and Metal Star of night, plus the EnStar being in its proper position, which leads to the ruler being greatly esteemed. Being out of season is like grass and trees encountering winter, when all flowers die, how can it compare to the pine and cypress standing alone in frost and snow? Being in season is like flowers and trees encountering spring, when all blossoms flourish, how can it compare to the withered grass standing alone in autumn wind?
When a person meets a beneficial element, it leads to punishment.
The concept of "meeting the source" refers to a planet falling in the degree of the thing it nourishes, also known as the position of growth; or when the benefic and the mother star are in different degrees but mutually generating each other, it is also favorable if there is another star that generates me in the same degree. The most favorable situation is when the stars are in the same degree and also used in the calculation, or when the person possesses stars such as official rank, heavenly禄, cultural virtue, and the leading star, which definitely leads to high status. The concept of "reverse punishment" refers to situations like metal and wood being in reverse positions: if the metal star is in the degree of wood in the Legs mansion, or the wood star is in the degree of metal in the Bond mansion, they cannot ascend to the palace; similarly, if water and fire are not in harmony, the situation is the same. Also, if the ruler of the fate and the punishing star are in the same degree, or if they are in opposition or facing each other, the situation is similar. The annotation says: the character "长" in "longevity" should be read as "掌," meaning the time of a person's growth; reading it as "length" is incorrect.
Use the method of killing, speed, and dignity.
For example, if the person's destiny is simultaneously governed by the star of official rank and the star of academic achievement, and this star is used in multiple ways while assisting the sun and conforming to the pattern, then this star is also the Yang Blade, Tian Xiong, a killer star, a劫 killer, Guan Fu, and Sang Men, which are all凶 stars. In such a case, the person will certainly have some minor ailments but still attain high status. If the star is not used in multiple ways, it may instead indicate a short life. A star that can be used for three or four purposes is called full use, which indicates high status. The term 'jí guì' refers to a person who has minor ailments but no serious illness, or hidden physical defects, such as Yang Xiong's stuttering or difficulty in speaking.
The trigram of Heaven (Qian) overcomes the trigram of Earth (Kun).
For example, if someone's destiny is calculated with the metal element and they encounter the fire element, the fire will certainly overcome the metal. If they were born in the year of辛 or 甲, then this fire element is also the Yang Blade, or is accompanied by other harmful stars, it becomes a situation of great alarm. Here, the fire is the killer element that comes to overcome me, not me overcoming others. The辛 element uses 戌 as its blade, and the 甲 element uses 卯 as its blade. Both 卯 and 戌 belong to the fire element, so people born in the year of辛 or 甲 take fire as their blade.
Official rank, examination success, official salary, and prosperity.
The stars governing official rank, examination success, and heavenly fortune are the fundamental sources of high status. If any of these stars guard the命 (destiny), and they move in a favorable direction towards me, or are born from me, or serve as both the body and destiny ruler while also being used in multiple capacities to assist the sun star, or if they are supported by the Triple Harmony or appear in the opposite palace, they indicate great prestige and prominence. If this star is located in a strong and flourishing palace, it signifies high status; however, if it is in a weak and declining palace, even if one attains high status, it may not be able to maintain the official salary.
The hexagram's fortune, the starry ladle, and the handle of the ladle.
The term "guā" refers to the "guā qi" (hexagram energy); "lù" refers to "lù xūn" (a rank of merit); and "dǒu" refers to "dǒu biāo" (the handle of the dipper). These three elements may either coincide in the same star, or the "lù" may be located at the position of the "dǒu biāo," or the "dǒu biāo" may be at the position of the "lù xūn," or the "lù xūn" may enter the "guā qi" palace, or the "guā qi" may enter the position of the "lù xūn." As long as they are connected with the person's palace of destiny and the palace of life, it indicates a noble and distinguished status.
Distinguish the group of the servant.
"The four additional celestial bodies, 'Zi Qi,' 'Yue Bo,' 'Luo Hou,' and 'Ji Du,' are the servants of the five planets. They should not be in the same degree as the body ruler, degree ruler, or life ruler, as this signifies a servant offending their master. If the four additional bodies can move separately, not mixed among the seven principal stars, it is considered good. When the main star is strong and the servant star is weak, there is no harm, as the master can control it; but if the servant star is strong and the main star is weak, the master cannot control it, and it will instead harm the master."
Using the stars for transformation and change
The three stars of official rank, academic success, and heavenly fortune are most important, and they do not like to be opposite the sun and isolated. Once they are opposite the palace, their status cannot rise. If "Luohou" and "Jidu" are in front and behind to block them, the star energy will not leak out, and it can be interpreted as high status. This is called Jidu and Luohou blocking. For example, if Jidu and Luohou are in the positions of Si and Hai, while the five stars are in the positions of Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, they will be blocked by them.
The roots are cut off and the branches are broken.
Any star that overcomes me is considered an enemy star, and it is most dangerous if it cuts off my star and moves together with the main star. For example, if the命 is located in the degree of Wing Mansion, with fire as the main star, and if the fire is located in the Neck Mansion, while the water star and the 'moon孛' are my enemy stars, located between the Chariot Mansion and the Horn Mansion, they cut off the fire of the命, just like the roots of a tree being cut off and the tree falling over, which inevitably leads to an early death. If the fire is located far away in another palace and falls in a prosperous and flourishing position, then there is no need to worry about it.
Let the body be assisted and the spirit be clear.
The stars Mars and Rahu are naturally considered malevolent, but for those born at night, these stars prefer to be close to the Moon, thus aligning with the right time and assisting the ruler's brilliance. If they are further supported by Venus and Mercury, the same effect is achieved. Such a configuration indicates intelligence and wealth. The classic text states: "For those born at night, the Moon is the main influence, with Mars and Rahu serving as attendants," referring to this situation. This means that malevolent stars, when placed in appropriate positions to assist the Moon, can actually bring good fortune.
Four Auspicious Trigrams Flanking the Central One
The four auspicious stars are called Tian Jing, Di Wei, Lu Xun, and Tian Fu. Among them, the most important is when two of them flank the命宫 (life palace) and the身宫 (body palace). At the same time, it is best if they are not pointed at and disrupted by the Dou Biao (the handle of the Big Dipper). This is considered most favorable.
Five losses are all present.
Heavenly Loss, Earthly Loss, Great Loss, and Minor Loss, along with the ten Heavenly Stems' corresponding耗神, if all gather in the命宫 or身宫, certainly indicate a life of poverty. If the yearly losses overlap with the current limit, one will certainly encounter thieves. Adding the yearly Yang Blade will lead to legal troubles and financial loss.
The foundation of a yang dwelling is based on its original source.
The sun represents the father. If it is in a strong and flourishing position, with auspicious stars accompanying and supporting it, it can expand and magnify the father's legacy. For example, if the person's destiny is in the You palace, the sun is also the ruler of the field and home. When the sun is in its palace, with the metal and water stars on both sides, it indicates that the father's wealth is abundant and noble. However, if the body ruler, destiny ruler, and palace ruler lead the sun to a leisurely and desolate palace, or if all fall into a weak palace, the father's legacy will certainly be thin. Leisure and desolation are the palaces of brothers, so even if there is some father's legacy, it will be divided and taken by brothers, resulting in its thinness.
A strong comet removes the name.
The stars Tian Xiong and Di Ci are most忌 to oppose the official position and official fortune宫. The comet Yue Bo is also the same. If they guard the official position宫 or the命宫, or if they cut off or separate the official position and academic achievement stars, then one will certainly have to eliminate reputation and reduce benefits and wealth. The terms "锄" and "削" both mean harm.
Seven Supreme Planets are all in a strong position.
The sun and moon, along with the five planets, each occupying their respective palace positions, form the fundamental source of wealth and honor. For example, the sun in the position of Wu, the moon in Wei, water in Si or Shen, metal in Chen or You, fire in Mao or Xu, wood in Yin or Hai, and earth in Zi or Chou, are all considered to be in their proper places.
Four masters are all in the state of stagnation.
The four main elements, namely the body ruler, life ruler, degree ruler, and longevity ruler, if harmed by malevolent stars, trapped between malevolent stars, or located in weak and declining positions and losing their original path, will certainly lead to poverty and early death. The method of determining the longevity ruler is as follows: for example, those born in the years of Jiazi or Yichou, whose nayin sound element belongs to metal, their longevity ruler is taken as the metal star, and the rest are determined in a similar manner.
Each side's strength and weakness
If the enemy star that overcomes me is strong and powerful, and I myself am weak, then I rely entirely on the mother star and son star for assistance, either within my own palace, or from the opposite palace, or through triple harmony to support and save me. Therefore, it is said: "When the purple qi (wood energy) is too strong, the earth star and the counting star will be harmed. At this time, if there is no fire star or metal star to rescue me, it will certainly result in a fatal outcome." What is meant by "though there is great fortune, but the person himself cannot enjoy it" refers precisely to this situation. The commentary explains: "Opposite palace concern" means assistance from the opposite palace, and "addition and harmony" refers to triple harmony coming into effect.
Before and after, calamity prevails.
Hostile stars and difficult stars are ominous, while benevolent stars and noble stars are auspicious. If these stars guard the self or the destiny, both ominous and auspicious outcomes may appear, so it is essential to distinguish their order: if an ominous star is before me, it is called turning away from me; if it is after me, it is called facing me. Turning away from me brings no harm, but facing me inevitably leads to misfortune. Similarly, if a benevolent or noble star is before me, it is also called turning away from me; if it is after me, it is called facing me. Turning away from me means losing its favor, but facing me brings honor. Turning away signifies lack of affection, while facing signifies intention. Both hostile and difficult stars, as well as benevolent and noble stars, must be distinguished as turning away or facing in order to determine fortune or misfortune.
The stars have varying natures.
The seven celestial bodies and four additional ones each have different natures: Jupiter governs literature and complexity, Mars governs violence and restlessness, Saturn governs heaviness and slowness, Venus governs firmness and lack of affection, and Mercury governs agility but lacks stability. The Sun corresponds to the father; if the ruling star is in the same palace as the Sun and is associated with dignity, and is accompanied by auspicious stars, the father will be distinguished. The Moon corresponds to the mother; if accompanied by auspicious stars, the mother will be virtuous and the person will also be esteemed. A woman's destiny, if she is governed by the Moon and has no malevolent stars mixed in, will have beauty. A man whose destiny is governed by the Moon and shares the palace with Jupiter will also have an outstanding appearance, indicating talent in literature and skills.
Those with "Zi Qi" governing their destiny are kind-hearted, speak clearly and logically, have few illnesses and long life, but may appear lonely or lack companionship. Those with "Yue Bo" governing their destiny speak loudly, are bold and resourceful, yet tend to be deceitful, proud, intolerant of criticism, and do not hide their jealousy. Those with "Ji Du" governing their destiny are courageous, bold, and often deceitful. This describes how each of the eleven celestial bodies has its own characteristics, just as people have virtues and vices, wisdom and foolishness, and different temperaments, which must be discerned by examining the nature of each star.
Not one Yuanchen
When discussing stars, the primary consideration is the heavenly stem and earthly branch of the person's birth year. Different heavenly stems and earthly branches result in different stars that determine wealth, status, and fortune. For example, those born in the year of Jia encounter the fire star, which is both a fortune and a sharp star; those born in the year of Xin rely on fire as the sharp star; those born in the year of Yi have the sun star as the Wen Chang and Tian Chu stars, and those born at the卯 hour are destined for wealth and honor; those born in the year of Bing or Wu have the sun star as the sharp star, and their fathers are likely to die early, and they need to see the Jupiter star to attain high status; those born in the year of Ding rely on the moon star as the sharp star; those born in the year of Ji have the moon star as both their body and sharp star, and it can also serve as a fortune; those born in the year of Wu have the Saturn star as their fortune star and also as the star of academic success; those born in the year of Geng rely on the water star as their fortune star and the metal star as the sharp star; those born in the year of Ren have the Ji Du star, which is inherently an evil star, but it becomes their fortune star; those born in the year of Gui have the Luo Hui star, which is inherently a凶 star, but it can also serve as their fortune star—these all indicate a person with noble status, power, and honor.
This passage explains the principles mentioned by Guo Lao: among the five stars and six luminaries, those that support me are auspicious, while those that harm me are inauspicious. However, whether something is auspicious or inauspicious also depends on my birth year's heavenly stem and earthly branch. For example, if the planet of Jupiter holds the Yang Blade and harms wood, it is inauspicious; if the planet of Saturn holds the Yang Blade and harms water, the effect is even more severe. This shows that planets holding a malevolent force have greater influence, while those not holding a malevolent force have less.
Residing in brightness, not in meanness.
The term "ming" refers to a high and noble place: theMao Palace is called the Bright Hall, theWu Palace is called the Yellow Emperor's Palace, and theXu Palace is called the Military Storehouse. If the body ruler and life ruler fall in these positions, they are considered high and noble places, and should not be regarded as lowly destinies. If the positions occupied by the Nobleman,禄马,文昌,斗杓,八杀, and卦气 are where the body ruler and life ruler are located, they are also considered bright positions. The卯 belongs to fire, the戌 also belongs to fire, and the午 is where the sun resides, so they all belong to fire; fire symbolizes civilization, so these places are all considered noble and elevated.
The sovereign must personally lead the ministers.
The two palaces of Sui Dian and Sui Jia are best when the body palace and the destiny palace are located above them. It is also preferable for the Sun to shine upon them and be harmonious with me, which would resemble the scene of a sovereign and minister meeting in the Zhaoyang Palace with ministers assisting, which would certainly be a source of glory for me. If stars are rising in their palace, entering their temple, or residing in their domain, they should also be considered in terms of numbers and have a supportive relationship with the destiny palace, which would indicate a noble status. If a single star can fulfill three functions, it is called Man Yong. Only those who rise in their palace, enter their temple, ascend to their domain, and appear in their palace are considered noble.
The body is empty, the spirit is detached, the harm is removed, and the burden is lifted.
The Taiyin is fond of quietness and prefers to be in an empty position, and it also likes to move alone; or if it is located in one of the six Jia decades of emptiness, once it falls into emptiness, the killing god cannot harm it. The classics say: when Taiyin falls into emptiness, it brings brightness over thousands of miles; also saying: when Taiyin is in a secluded palace, it is actually auspicious. If the palace it occupies is originally strong and vigorous, it will even be less afraid of Kongwang.
Palace, Strength, Favor, and Profit
If the natal chart's命宫 is located in auspicious palace such as 天禄, Nobleman, 唐符, 国印, 文昌, 卦气, 斗杓, 注受, 生旺, and the natal Nayin sound element is also in a 生旺 position, it indicates a prosperous and distinguished destiny. This is similar to a person being in the prime of their physical strength and vitality, thus capable of bearing great wealth and honor.
Avoid snakes and walk carefully over tigers.
When entering a period of life limits, if there are凶stars welcoming in front and sending off behind, then the person will certainly die. This refers to just leaving a凶limit and entering another凶limit.
Snowfall adds to the ice.
Within the limits of one's life span, encountering the malevolent stars from the original chart is already terrifying; yet if the killing spirits of the current year also come into play, it will certainly lead to death, just like adding another layer of ice to snow.
Sahuan Sengyi
If a malevolent star does not arise from its original mansion, but falls into the命宫, it harms the self; if it falls into the third house, which is the position of brothers and siblings, it harms the brothers and younger siblings; if it falls into the fourth house, which is the position of parents, it harms the parents; if it falls into the fifth house, which is the position of children, it harms the children; if it falls into the seventh house, which is the position of the spouse, it harms the spouse. If a malevolent star is located in its original mansion, it harms the parents when it meets the sun or moon, and harms the spouse when it meets the star representing the spouse, and so on. All these are judged based on the stars; if there is another star that benefits me, then this method is not applied. A star that is born from me is considered beneficial, and a star that overcomes me is considered harmful. All these should be analyzed according to the respective houses.
