Water represents the spirit of the Black Emperor of the North. In ancient times, the high emperor Gaoyang held a scale and was in charge of this domain. Therefore, water symbolizes "wisdom"; wisdom lies in planning, and planning values stability, which is the meaning of using the scale to enforce the strict command of cold and frost, and to govern the killing of all things. The nature of water is changeable: if it breaks through from the east, it flows eastward; if it breaks through from the west, it flows westward; in winter it freezes, and in summer it dissipates. Water is able to nourish all things because it is the blood of heaven and earth, flowing through and connecting everything without obstruction; it also depends on soil to generate, thus becoming the grain that sustains the people.

In spring, water is still frozen and cold, so it needs the warmth of Jupiter, Purple Qi, Mars, and Rahu to transform it naturally. If born during the day with the presence of the Water Star, Moon孛, and the Sun, it is called "bright and clear," meaning the ice and frost melt, the mind becomes clear, and actions are strict yet the government commands with dignity, leading to fame in the court. It is unfavorable when it interacts with the Metal Star. This configuration is best when born during the day, but if born at night, it leads to poverty. In February and March, the weather is pleasant and moist, allowing water to nourish and generate all things, resulting in outstanding achievements. However, in April and May, the water becomes excessive and unstable, leading to a lack of fortune.

In summer, when the water becomes torrential and overwhelming, earth is needed to build dikes for defense, which is most effective. The classic text says: when the water is powerful but there is no earth to build dikes, it will eventually become turbid and dull. If the earth star is prosperous and strong, it should not be considered as a "reverse destiny," but rather indicates success in fame and fortune. However, water in June is most afraid of the fire star, the sun, and Rahu drying it up. If it meets the earth star and Ji Du, it will be subject to suppression. Water in autumn, especially in July and August, is capable of nourishing all things. It is most undesirable for it to be suppressed. It can use earth's dikes to prevent flooding, and also moisten the soil to make all things flourish. The water source is clear and lovely, indicating wealth and honor. If the water is suppressed or loses its strength, it indicates a weak water qi, which cannot bring about good fortune.

In winter, water follows the season and is in charge, but although it is the water deity that is in charge, it cannot be considered truly in command. At this time, water freezes and becomes stagnant, unable to produce change. Only when fire comes to melt the ice can it be considered the best season, and when earth comes to protect it, it is the next best. Only with the assistance of the sun can it be said to be truly in command. Someone asks: why do rivers and streams freeze, but well water does not? It is because there is more earth in the well, and more earth means the water is warmer and clearer. River and stream water becomes frozen and stagnant, unable to change, so it prefers sunny weather, fire and earth to warm it, and thus heaven sends auspicious signs. However, winter water is naturally in command at this time, so it does not need metal to generate it. If it were to meet metal, it would be against the principles, so this is called 'forgetting the principles'. Winter water only likes fire and wood.

Discussing the Day

In spring, the sun is beautiful and pleasant, enabling all things to find their proper place. With the "SanTai" stars leading the way and protecting from behind, and the water star and the metal star assisting on either side, this is called "Facing the Sun, Flowers Bloom Red." During spring, it is most inauspicious for the "Cloud and Rain Stars" to meet with the sun, as this would cause branches and leaves to flourish and block the sunlight, preventing the sun from exerting its transformative power. If the jupiter star, the fire star, the ZiQi star, and the LuoHou star converge and pay homage to the sun, then the sun can act on behalf of heaven and govern affairs. Fire and the sun are both in a state of vitality, and everyone likes them, so it is said to be a heavenly blessing. However, one does not realize that the fire star and LuoHou star actually take away the authority of the jupiter star and ZiQi star, yet they are still regarded as auspicious. The so-called "Cloud and Rain Stars" refer to the water star, the YueBo star, the earth star, the JiDu star, and the metal star.

In summer, the sun's fire is intense and yang energy is overwhelming, causing people to fear it. The most favorable situation is when the water star and the moon孛 travel together with the sun, creating a balance between dryness and moisture, resulting in a harmonious climate where all things shine brightly and prosperity naturally comes. The most feared situation is when the jupiter star, purple qi, fire star, and roguo star gather around the sun, which will cause all things to wither and collapse, leading to a sudden and severe decline. In early summer, around the fourth month, the sun is located in the Net mansion. Cao Zhi's essay says: the god of fire, Yan Di, controls the seasons, and Zhurong governs the direction. The tree of Fushang stands tall, igniting nine sun-like flames. In autumn, the sun is square and not round, indicating that the six relations will be separated at an early age. The most favorable situation is when the metal star and the water star support the sun, which is like heavy rain falling after a long drought, reviving all things and making them flourish, thus bringing about wealth and honor. If the fire star shines directly opposite the sun without water to moisten it, the scorching heat will not subside, causing the worst calamity. The Book of Songs says: autumn days are bleak, and all grasses will wither.

In winter, the sun is warm and gentle, and people all love it. Those born at noon receive the greatest blessings. Those born at night are favorable if the star of wood, metal, fire, and RuoHou face the sun. Fire and the sun both emit light, and the sky is clear, indicating a person who is both literary and martial. It is not favorable for those born at night to also see the stars of water, moonbo, earth, and Jidi, as these "cloud and rain stars" will obscure the brilliance of the sun. When one's destiny reaches such a point, the harm is most severe. If the star of water is in conjunction with the sun, one may receive a star of wood to relieve the water's energy, and a star of fire to harmonize and make the sunlight bright. This is called "the sun clearing after thunder," indicating a person of great wealth and status. There are also cases where one first sees the stars of water and moonbo, then later sees the stars of fire and sun, which is called "prolonged rain meeting clear weather," meaning initial hardship followed by ease. There are also cases where one first sees the stars of fire and sun, then later sees the stars of water and moonbo, which is called "prolonged clear weather meeting rain," meaning initial ease followed by hardship.

On the Month

In spring, the moon shines over mountains and forests, though there is a graceful charm of falling flowers and light rain. However, the moon's light is dim and ultimately not beautiful. It is most preferable for the sun to appear at the right time, bringing bright and warm sunlight, which signifies abundant wealth, official rank, and blessings. A moon born at night meeting the planet Jupiter brings clarity to all trees, indicating outstanding literary talent. A moon born at night meeting the planet Mars results in 'Fire and Moon shining together,' indicating a life of wealth and honor. If a night moon meets the planet Wood and also carries the Taohua star, and the person is born in the second lunar month, this is called 'Flower and Moon shining together,' which describes people who are graceful, elegant, and full of spirit. At this time, the moon should not meet the planet Saturn or Ji Du, which is called 'Clouds obscuring the moon's brilliance,' and is not worth mentioning.

It is also not advisable for the star "Yuebo" which is accustomed to follow Taiyin closely to trail behind the moon, as it will obscure the light of Taiyin and cause serious troubles. In spring, the moon should always have a bright appearance so that all things may be prosperous; the moon itself is the essence of yin energy, which relies on the sun for its light. If it only accompanies the earth star and Jidu, these residual energies, it cannot be considered auspicious. In summer, the moon spreads its bright glow and warmth, like the gentle spring breeze, which is warm and pleasant: the water star and Yuebo moisten it without causing coldness, while LuoHou and fire star illuminate it without causing dryness. At this time, the moon prefers the wood star and Ziqi to support it, and fears the earth star and Jidu to obscure it; although the metal star is weak, those born at night prefer it to accompany the moon. The moon itself has no light and needs the sun to shine during the day.

In the autumn, the moon's light is bright and illuminates the heavens and earth, indicating that the master is outstanding. When encountering the water star, it is like a clear pond, shining brightly; with the assistance of the metal star, the spirit becomes even more excellent. During the times of the waxing and waning moon and full moon, where would it be appropriate for Luo Hui and the fire star to compete with its brilliance? During the new moon and the last quarter, how could it endure the confrontation of the earth star and Ji Du facing it directly. When the moon meets the "Yue Bo" star, it is called "Tai Yi Bao Chan," indicating an extraordinary official rank. When it meets the "Zi Qi" star, it is called "Xiang Yun Peng Yue," surely indicating a noble and distinguished status. Among the four seasons' moons, the autumn moon is the brightest, because the autumn atmosphere is clear and the metal energy is strong. Therefore, those who receive the autumn moon's energy are destined to be noble.

In winter, the moon is severe and cold, its light though bright and clear, appears lonely and pure. Though its light spreads over rivers, lakes, and seas, the cold moon lacks some ease. It is to be avoided when water star and moon孛 are present; earth star and ji du are most unfavorable. The presence of metal star seems cruel, while wood star and zi qi are of little help. Those born in the day can rely on sunlight to spread warmth; those born at night must depend on fire star and luohou to enhance the moon's brightness. Skilled observers of the stars should not only consider the principles of generation and overcoming, but first understand the four seasons, then distinguish day from night, and carefully consider these matters to be thorough. Winter is a time of closure and cold mist, which obscures the moon's brilliance and hides the bright moon in the moon palace. Even if such a person is wealthy, they lack the charm of poetry and moonlight.

Yin and yang are both clearly explained.

To determine the destiny, one uses the position of the sun to establish the "body" and to reveal the "essence" of destiny; to determine the body, one uses the position of the moon. The discussion of destiny is the same for everyone, but the discussion of the body differs for each person. Therefore, the patterns of wealth, poverty, nobility, and humility in the destiny palace are only relevant if they are connected to the body palace. Only those that are deeply related to the body palace should be considered. The concept of yin and yang refers to the sun and moon, that is, the sun and the moon. People connect their body and destiny to these two celestial bodies. Since the sun and moon are close to each other in the sky, they are all located in the four cardinal palaces: Zi (rat), Wu (horse), Mao (rabbit), and You (rooster). Zi is the gate of the beginning, Wu is the throne of the emperor, Mao is the Bright Hall, all places where the sun and moon reside; You is where the sun sets. If a person's destiny palace and body palace fall in these four palaces, they are considered wealthy and noble.

The person's destiny palace is located in the午 (Wu) palace. The sun is in巳 (Si) and the moon is in未 (Wei), which is called yin and yang surrounding the destiny palace. If the sun and moon are in the palace of the opposite gender and the palace of movement and migration, and their power is strong, then this person will certainly hold power and stand out. If the sun is in午 (Wu) and the moon is in子 (Zi), or the sun is in卯 (Mao) and the moon is in酉 (You), these are all auspicious signs for wealth and honor. Conversely, if the moon is in卯 (Mao) and the sun is in酉 (You), these are all signs of broken fortune. If the sun is in the palace of the moon and the moon is in the palace of the sun, this is also called yin and yang opposing each other, indicating that the person is a庶出 (secondary son) with two mothers. Those born during the day should avoid the planet of fire, and those born at night should avoid the planet of earth. However, this should be viewed flexibly and not rigidly adhered to.

There is a poem that questions: In the twelve houses, the strength of the house ruler is not discussed, only the day's aversion to fire and the night's aversion to earth are mentioned. Then why are water, wood, and metal not also avoided? This leads to the use of the five stars being described as crude and superficial. In the course of a person's life, if the sun and moon are seen, their wonderful effects are endless; or if the sun and moon are in opposition within the limits, they can bring good fortune. If the fire star and Ruo Hui conflict with the sun, or the earth star and Ji Du conflict with the moon, they will harm the six relations. If an eclipse of the sun occurs on the first day of the month, and the person's命宫 is exactly in the degree of the sun, or an eclipse of the moon occurs on the fifteenth day of the month, and the命宫 is exactly in the degree of the moon, this person will either die young or be blind and mute.

The sun and moon being in the same palace of destiny indicate that the person will hold a high position. The palace of Si is the extreme of yang energy, so the moon is not suitable to be in Hai; the palace of Hai is the extreme of yin energy, so the sun is not suitable to be in Si. The moon in Si will harm the mother, and the sun in Hai will harm the father. When the sun and moon embrace the palace of destiny or the palace of the ruler, it indicates high status; when they embrace the palace of fields, wealth and property, it ensures wealth; when they embrace the palace of movement and migration, it indicates success in foreign places; when they embrace the palace of marriage and children, it indicates a virtuous wife and virtuous children; when they embrace the palace of illness and misfortune, it indicates few illnesses. Following this pattern, there will be no mistakes. If the sun is the main star but is located in the wood degree, or the moon is the main star but is located in the earth degree, then it is considered to have lost its proper place. The term 'proper place' refers to the palace and degree. 'Moon in卯 and day in酉' means yin and yang are opposite; 'blind' means unable to see, and 'mute' means unable to speak.

The Yellow Path of the Tai Yin

The moon has nine paths of movement. The Yellow Path serves as the main axis, with two Blue Paths emerging to the east of the Yellow Path, two Red Paths to the south, two White Paths to the west, and two Black Paths to the north. Throughout the four seasons, these paths shift along with the Yellow Path: in spring, the Yellow Path begins in the east; in summer, it begins in the south; in autumn, it begins in the west; and in winter, it begins in the north. As for the sun moving along the southern and northern paths, this is the rotation of the heavenly way, which can be understood through the nine paths. Those who discuss stars often do not understand the movement of the nine paths. In fact, the nine paths were not established for any other purpose, but specifically for the moon, since the moon is the master of the body. The method involves dividing the moon's path according to the degrees it travels through the four seasons, thereby determining the Yellow Path, Blue Path, White Path, Red Path, and Black Path.

The Example of the Nine Courses of Taiyin

The sun travels along the Yellow Path, and the moon travels along nine paths. The Yellow Path is the central path; the nine paths are nine routes of movement. Why is it called nine paths? Because there is one Yellow Path, two Green Paths, two White Paths, two Red Paths, and two Black Paths, adding up to nine paths. For example, those born in spring: if the moon is in the wooden degrees such as Jiao Mu Jiao, Dou Mu Xie, Kui Mu Lang, and Jing Mu An, then it is called the moon traveling along the Yellow Path; if the moon is in the fire degrees such as Wei Huo Hu, Shi Hu Zhu, Zi Hu Hou, and Yi Hu She, as well as the solar degrees such as Fang Ri Tu, Xu Ri Shu, Mao Ri Ji, and Xing Ri Ma, then it is called the moon traveling along the Green Path; if the moon is in the water degrees such as Ji Shui Bao, Bi Shui Yu, Can Shui Yuan, and Zhen Shui Yin, as well as the lunar degrees such as Xin Yue Hu, Wei Yue Yan, Bi Yue Wu, and Zhang Yue Lu, then it is called the moon traveling along the White Path; if the moon is in the metal degrees such as Kang Jin Long, Niu Jin Niu, Lou Jin Gou, and Gui Jin Yang, then it is called the moon traveling along the Red Path; if the moon is in the earth degrees such as Di Tu Mo, Nu Tu Fu, Wei Tu Chi, and Liu Tu Zhang, then it is called the moon traveling along the Black Path.

The principle of this system is: those in harmony with the current energy are called the Yellow Path, those I generate are called the Green Path, those that generate me are called the White Path, those that overcome me are called the Red Path, and those I overcome are called the Black Path. Another way to express this is: the flourishing is the Yellow Path, the flourishing in a secondary degree is the Green Path, the resting is the White Path, the restrained is the Red Path, and the dead is the Black Path. For example, people born in summer: if the Moon is located in the fire degrees such as the tail, room, crown, and wing of the constellation, as well as the day degrees such as the house, void,昴, and star, it is called the Moon traveling on the Yellow Path; if it is located in the earth degrees such as the deity, female, stomach, and willow, it is called the Moon traveling on the Green Path; if it is located in the wood degrees such as the horn, bucket, qi, and well, it is called the Moon traveling on the White Path; if it is located in the water degrees such as the箕, wall, participant, and chariot, as well as the moon degrees such as the heart, zhang, danger, and battle, it is called the Moon traveling on the Red Path; if it is located in the metal degrees such as the horn, cow, lion, and ghost, it is called the Moon traveling on the Black Path.

For example, those born in autumn: if the Moon is in the degrees of Kangle, Niu, Lou, and Gui (metal degrees), it is called the Moon traveling along the Yellow Path; if it is in the degrees of Ji, Bi, Can, Chen, as well as Xin, Wei, Bi, and Zhang (water degrees), it is called the Moon traveling along the Green Path; if it is in the degrees of Di, Nu, Wei, and Liu (earth degrees), it is called the Moon traveling along the White Path; if it is in the degrees of Wei, Shi, Zui, Yi, as well as Fang, Xu, Mao, and Xing (fire degrees), it is called the Moon traveling along the Red Path; if it is in the degrees of Jiao, Dou, Kui, and Jing (wood degrees), it is called the Moon traveling along the Black Path. Similarly, for those born in winter: if the Moon is in the degrees of Ji, Bi, Can, Chen, as well as Xin, Wei, Bi, and Zhang (water degrees), it is called the Moon traveling along the Yellow Path; if it is in the degrees of Jiao, Dou, Kui, and Jing (wood degrees), it is called the Moon traveling along the Green Path; if it is in the degrees of Kangle, Niu, Lou, and Gui (metal degrees), it is called the Moon traveling along the White Path; if it is in the degrees of Di, Nu, Wei, and Liu (earth degrees), it is called the Moon traveling along the Red Path; if it is in the degrees of Wei, Shi, Zui, Yi, as well as Fang, Xu, Mao, and Xing (fire degrees), it is called the Moon traveling along the Black Path.

The degrees traversed by the Taiyin (Yin) during the four seasons

The Yellow Path is one, which is the central path; the Green Path has two, the White Path has two, the Red Path has two, and the Black Path has two. After the Beginning of Spring: the Yellow Path belongs to Wood, taking the measure of four Woods; the Green Path belongs to Fire, taking the measure of four Fires; the White Path belongs to Water, taking the measure of four Waters; the Red Path belongs to Metal, taking the measure of four Metals; the Black Path belongs to Earth, taking the measure of four Earths. After the Beginning of Summer: the Yellow Path belongs to Fire, taking the measure of four Fires; the Green Path belongs to Earth, taking the measure of four Earths; the White Path belongs to Wood, taking the measure of four Woods; the Red Path belongs to Water, taking the measure of four Waters; the Black Path belongs to Metal, taking the measure of four Metals. After the Beginning of Autumn: the Yellow Path belongs to Metal, taking the measure of four Metals; the Green Path belongs to Water, taking the measure of four Waters; the White Path belongs to Earth, taking the measure of four Earths; the Red Path belongs to Fire, taking the measure of four Fires; the Black Path belongs to Wood, taking the measure of four Woods. After the Beginning of Winter: the Yellow Path belongs to Water, taking the measure of four Waters; the Green Path belongs to Wood, taking the measure of four Woods; the White Path belongs to Metal, taking the measure of four Metals; the Red Path belongs to Earth, taking the measure of four Earths; the Black Path belongs to Fire, taking the measure of four Fires.

The five phases correspond to the degrees passed through by the Taiyin; by using this method of calculation, one can determine the order of the nine paths. If the moon moves along the solar degrees, it is combined with the fire degree; if it moves along the lunar degrees, it is combined with the water degree. The four wooden degrees are Jiao Mu Jiao, Dou Mu Xie, Kui Mu Lang, and Jing Mu An; the four fire degrees are Wei Huo Hu, Shi Hu Zhu, Zui Hu Hou, and Yi Hu She; the four metal degrees are Kang Jin Long, Niu Jin Niu, Gui Jin Yang, and Lou Jin Go; the four water degrees are Ji Shui Bao, Bi Shui Yu, Can Shui Yuan, and Zhen Shui Yin; the four earth degrees are Di Tu He, Nu Tu Fu, Wei Tu Chi, and Liu Tu Zhang; the four solar degrees are Fang Ri Tu, Xu Ri Shu, Mao Ri Ji, and Xing Ri Ma; the four lunar degrees are Xin Yue Hu, Wei Yue Yan, Bi Yue Wu, and Zhang Yue Lu.

The Nine Paths of Taiyin Divination

When discussing fate, since the destiny is connected to the sun and moon, it is necessary to examine the nine paths. The brightness or darkness of these nine paths is like the thickness or thinness of the blessings one receives in life. The moon's movement determines which of these paths it follows, and thus determines fortune or misfortune. If the moon travels along the Yellow Path and encounters the five stars' auspicious influences, it brings good fortune. However, if it meets Saturn, the Nodes, the Moon孛, and Rahu, its power is reduced, because these four additional celestial bodies belong to the dark paths and should not appear on the Yellow Path. Once they appear, they will obscure the moon's light and make it dim. The Black Path is exactly where these four additional bodies thrive, and it is not suitable for the five stars to follow. Those who travel along the Yellow Path are intelligent, harmonious, pure, and beautiful, like the gentle and adaptable spring breeze. Even if the Yellow Path is weak, it is still considered auspicious, but one should fear when the Yellow Path is obscured and darkened—this is like the moon shining in the sky but being blocked by a cloud, resulting in great darkness.

Those born under the blue path of the moon are mostly upright and pure, with noble character and integrity, and their actions conform to propriety and etiquette. Both the blue path and the white path are places of solitude and elevation. If the destiny chart coincides with the isolation and punishment of the Guchen and Xingsha, and lacks the Lu Spirit, Nobleman, and the star of the palace, such a person will inevitably suffer from loneliness and conflicts. If further complicated by the Kongwang and Yang Blade conflicting and crossing each other, they are certainly destined to become monks or Taoist priests. Even if there are auspicious charts, they will only be isolated individuals among the prominent. The red path is where the sun's radiance resides. Those born under this path are often shrewd in strategy, capable of using circumstances to their advantage, and bold in their actions.

Those who follow the Black Path under the moon are foolish yet stubborn, lowly yet domineering, with lofty aspirations but no real learning, and great ambitions but no achievements. Even if such people attain wealth and status, even if they enter various auspicious formations, they must necessarily rise from hardship and difficulty. When examining the Moon, the first thing to consider is which of the nine paths it falls into. Then, one should also examine which star is dominant in the chart. For example, if it pairs with the star of wife, it indicates success through the support of a wife, and achievements in fame and status will come from family connections. If it pairs with the star of home and property, it indicates gaining strength from parents and acquiring wealth. If it pairs with the star of wealth or the star of officialdom, it indicates attaining wealth and status. By combining these with the various formations in the chart, one will not make mistakes.

The "Too Yin Degree Master" says:

For example, if the Moon is in the degree of 「Liu Jin Gou」, which belongs to metal, we should use the planet Venus for interpretation. If Venus is in its own mansion and occupies a strong position, with other stars supporting it, and is connected with the Lu Spirit, Nobleman, the Post-horse, and the palace position, and if Saturn comes to generate it, this is a favorable sign. A person whose命宫 is in the巳 (Snake) palace will certainly achieve high status. If Venus loses its position, is blocked by other stars, or has its energy cut off, and does not connect with the Lu Spirit, Nobleman, Post-horse, or palace position, but instead is entangled with the Yang Blade and harmful stars, then it becomes a sign of low status. If Venus, although losing its proper path, is supported by the Moon, or if it moves along the Yellow Path and interacts with the desired Lu Spirit, Post-horse, palace position, Post-horse, and Nobleman, then Venus is still considered a beneficial star. For instance, if Venus is in the辰 (Dragon) palace and is in its exaltation.

If this golden star is precisely in the position of officialdom, and the red star is in the positions of Shen, Zi, or Chen which are currently dominant, or if a difficult star comes to cause trouble, then one cannot use the concept of 'the self and ruler in official position' to judge as auspicious. Because it is being oppressed by the red star, controlled by the season, and driven by the official position, how can there be any fortune? If another star of earth connects the paths of fire and metal, then it becomes a way to turn misfortune into good fortune: fire originally harms metal, but when earth appears, fire will instead nourish earth, and earth in turn nourishes metal, thus restoring a favorable situation.

If the planet of metal is in the upper palace, then we should look at the planet of earth: the planet of earth is the ruler of which palace, then it will bring the power of that palace— if it is the ruler of the palace of wife, then it will receive help from wife and concubine; if it is the ruler of the palace of children, then it will receive the strength of children; if it is the ruler of the palace of official position, then it will bring honor; if it is the ruler of the palace of fortune and virtue, then it will bring wealth. The planet of earth is a steady planet, which has the function of cultivation, so people will enjoy lasting blessings. If the planet of metal is scorched by fire and there is no planet of earth to temper this fierce flame, then this person is likely to suffer from wandering and turmoil, even if another auspicious planet appears, it will instead become more dangerous.

If the planet Venus meets the planet Water, one should look at which palace the Water planet is the ruler of. If it is the ruler of the palace of fields and homes, the palace of wife, or the palace of children and relatives, it is auspicious. If it is the ruler of the palace of official position or the palace of fortune and virtue, it is even more favorable; this is the fortune gained by the body palace. If the Water planet is a useless star or merely the ruler of the palace of servants or the palace of brothers, it brings no benefit to oneself, but instead steals one's spirit and vitality, leading to a life of weakness and losing more than one gains. For example, if Venus meets the planet Wood and the Wood is considered a wealth star, one should also examine which palace the Wood planet is the ruler of. If it is the ruler of the wife's palace, one gains wealth from the wife; if it is the ruler of the servant's palace, one gains utility from the servants. By examining in this flexible manner, there is nothing that does not come to pass. The Moon is the ruler of the body. The 'killer' and 'Yangren' are the two things that cause the most harm. The wonderful aspect of continuous generation and endless transformation can be seen from here.

The Yin Moon's Influence from the Side and the Supporting Explanation

The formations of "yin," "from," "jia," and "gong" should be analyzed to determine which are auspicious and which are inauspicious. For example, if the Moon is located in the Bond mansion, and there is a beneficial star within thirty degrees ahead of it, this is called "yin"; if there is a beneficial star within thirty degrees behind it, this is called "from." Stars that form "yin" should be slightly farther away, while those that form "from" should be slightly closer. When the stars before and after are evenly balanced, regardless of which star or how many stars are involved, it is considered "yin from jia gong." The key is to observe whether the stars are harmonious or conflicting with each other. In the case of "front yin and back from," one should look at the stars ahead of the Moon. Regardless of how many stars there are, the closest one is taken as the main star. If both the main star and the star ahead are mutually beneficial and there is no conflict, the person will either be noble or wealthy. However, if there is a conflict, the formation is not pure. If the main star ahead of the Moon conflicts with the Sun and Moon, then it is a lowly fate.

If the Taiyin is in harmony with official position, nobleman, palace position, and the star of the carriage, there is no case that does not indicate wealth and honor. If the stars before and after are well arranged and balanced, the main star and Taiyin are in mutual harmony, then even if many stars fight with each other in front, as long as they do not harm the main star before the moon, it will not affect fame and fortune. If the triple harmony direction shines upon it, the situation is the same. However, one must distinguish between 'he dao' and 'wang dao': the one closest to the moon is most important, as such wealth and honor are earned through one's own efforts, without relying on others. For those belonging to 'he dao' and 'wang dao', they must necessarily be achieved through others. Among these two, 'wang qu' may still succeed, but 'he qu' cannot become a noble rank without relying on others, and it would only be an inherited official position. In the case of bowing and enclosing, there can be both fortune and misfortune: if the enclosing stars are auspicious, it is auspicious; if the bowing stars are inauspicious, it is inauspicious, and one must carefully examine. The terms 'wang qu' and 'he qu' refer to 'wang dao' and 'he dao'; 'wang dao' means the star shines from the opposite palace, while 'he dao' means the star shines from the triple harmony direction.

The Moon's Shadow Offends the Palace and Injures the Host Star.

The term "fán diàn" refers to a situation where the main ruler is weak, and a star in a lower position uses its power to attack the dwelling of the main ruler. For example, if the Moon is in the degree of "Wèi tǔ zhì" (the degree of the Earthly Beast in the constellation of the Stomach), and the planets Róu Hóu and Jì Dū occupy the constellations Mǎo (Rooster) and Bì (Crow), which are associated with the Sun and Moon respectively. In the heavens, the Sun and Moon are like the king and queen on earth; Róu Hóu is a fierce star on the Black Path, yet it dares to attack the Sun and Moon. How can there not be misfortune when such a malevolent star is present? The term "fán diàn" specifically refers to when Róu Hóu, Jì Dū, Saturn, and Mars occupy the degrees of the four days and four months.

The concept of "injuring the host" refers to a situation where the upper part is strong and the lower part is fierce, each relying on its own strength. For example, if the Taiyin is in the "Stomach Earth Rooster" position, and the命宫 is located in the Zi or Chou positions, with Jupiter also in the position before the moon, then both the body and the destiny are tied to the earth element, while the wood element is about to come and injure it. If the wood element then moves backward and retreats, the situation becomes even more dangerous. Such people tend to be rough, fierce, ignorant, and stubborn. If they also encounter the Yang Blade or Jiesha, they are sure to be wicked individuals who will suffer legal punishment, or else they may die young. However, there are also such configurations that still result in wealth and honor, because they are seated in the positions of the Lu Spirit, the Post-horse, and the Nobleman, in their temples and strong positions. If the sun and moon form a pattern together, they can suppress the fierce energy of the evil stars. In such cases, even if the "injuring the host" occurs, it is not a problem. Those who study fate should examine carefully and not generalize.the so-called "injuring the host" refers to the star that injures the destiny and the body being located before the Taiyin.

The Explanation of the Taiyin Palace

The concept of "letting the palace" is like the master not living in the main hall but moving to another place. If the palace that is given up has auspicious stars, it brings good fortune; if it has inauspicious stars, it brings misfortune. For example, if the Moon is between the degrees of Willow Mansion and Star Mansion, and all the other stars are in the areas of Wings Mansion and Chariot Mansion, leaving out the middle part of Extended Net Mansion; or if the Moon is in Wings Mansion and Chariot Mansion, while the other stars are in Willow Mansion and Star Mansion, it is the same situation. Generally, the front is more important, and the back is more lenient. If the place given up is in the direction of the Lu Spirit, Nobleman, palace position, or the guiding star, it indicates wealth and honor. If there are also one Venus and one Mercury in Extended Net Mansion, this is called "one star facing the back" or "retaining the protective enclosure," which is even more auspicious. However, if the palace given up contains Saturn, Counting Star, Rahu, and Moon孛, it cannot be called "facing the back," but rather "letting the palace be insulted," which is aInauspicious Pattern. "Letting" means yielding: yielding to auspicious stars brings good fortune, while yielding to inauspicious stars brings misfortune.

The Theory of the Taiyin Exceeding the Enclosure

Ruo Hou and Ji Du keep the Tai Yin outside the boundary they have drawn, which is called "chū yuán." At this time, if Tai Yin occupies the palace position, the throne position, or meets the Lu Spirit and the Nobleman, it is auspicious; if it falls upon the killing stars, it is inauspicious. The moon is a weak star, and it has waxing and waning phases such as the new moon, full moon, and the first and last quarters. It relies entirely on the assistance of other stars: for those born in the day, the wood star, water star, and Zi Qi are suitable; for those born at night, the metal star and Yue Bo are suitable. The fire star and Ruo Hou should be located before and after Tai Yin. The most feared situation is when yin and yang are opposite and all the stars lose their positions. If there is a good star close to Tai Yin in front, along with the Lu Spirit and the Nobleman, but behind there are evil stars chasing closely, the situation becomes particularly urgent.the so-called "chū yuán" means that Tai Yin falls outside the range enclosed by Ji Du and Ruo Hou.

The Theory of the Moon's Phases and Darkness

The term "hui" refers to the thirtieth day of a large month or the twenty-ninth day of a small month; "shuo" is the first day of the month; "shangxian" occurs on the seventh and eighth days; "xiangxian" occurs on the twenty-second and twenty-third days; and "wang" occurs on the fifteenth and sixteenth days. Since the moon travels along nine paths, there are distinctions of hui, shuo, shangxian, and wang. The moon itself has no light; it shines only by borrowing the light of the sun. Those born around the days of hui or shuo will have no light. Those born during the day can rely on the sun's light, while those born at night must depend on the light of the star Mars and the node LuoHou. If Venus or Mercury is present, it is also acceptable. For those born during shangxian, the moon's light gradually increases, called "jin qi"; for those born during xiangxian, the moon's light gradually decreases, called "tui qi."

When there is an excess of incoming energy and a deficiency of outgoing energy, there is another view: the waxing moon is favorable when born in the hours of Shen, You, Xu, and Hai, while the waning moon is favorable when born in the hours of Hai, Zi, Chou, and Yin. Both types of moon favor the presence of Mars and Rahu nearby, and also benefit from the assistance of Venus and Mercury. The days around the full moon, when the moonlight is at its strongest, are not favorable for Mars and Rahu to be in the same palace or to be in triple harmony or opposite positions, which is called "fire and moon competing for brightness." If Mars and Rahu are also in charge of the Yang Blade, Tian Xiong, Lian Zhen, Jian Feng, and other malevolent stars, the person is either likely to lose their mother at an early age or suffer from eye disease. If there is Venus shining together with the moon, or Mercury reflecting the moon's light, or forming the "Tai Yi Bao Chan" pattern, and if this occurs during winter, or if it is in the palace or degree of water, earth, or wood, it is considered a loss of position. Even if they achieve success, it will be difficult at first and easy later, or they will rise from poverty. Even if they become prominent, they will be lonely.

In general, solar and lunar eclipses occur when the sun and moon are in conjunction. A solar eclipse must occur on the first day of the month, and a lunar eclipse must occur on the fifteenth or sixteenth day. If the sun is afflicted by Ruo Hou and Ji Du and a person is born during the day, it indicates a solar eclipse. If the moon is afflicted by Ruo Hou and Ji Du and a person is born at night, it indicates a lunar eclipse. During the new moon and the last day of the month, the moon has no light, while during the first and last quarter, the moon shines brightly. The term "solitary moon shining alone" occurs only between the eighth and twenty-third days of the month, and it is most effective when the person is born at night. Other days are not considered. However, the solitary moon shining alone in winter is not favorable, and it is also undesirable if the planet Jin Xing, Yue Bo, Shui Xing, Mu Xing, and Zi Qi are nearby. The best situation is when the planet Huo Xing and Ruo Hou are present to assist.

Zhang Guo's School of Astral Destiny Volume Eleven: The Doctrine of Taiyin, authored by Zhou Ruoshui.

The Taiyin represents the essence of water, which is the body of a person. It moves thirteen times in a day, which is a constant. When a person is born during one of the twelve hours, the Taiyin is exactly at a certain degree, either full or waning, bright or dark, which governs the person's entire fortune and misfortune. Nowadays, most practitioners do not recognize the concepts of morning degrees and evening degrees, but instead focus on the empty and solid aspects on the Qintang disk, leading to imprecise calculations and unverified predictions. The degrees traveled by the Taiyin after the new moon are called "evening degrees," and those after the full moon are called "morning degrees." The sun is the original fire energy, the master of all celestial bodies, and remains unchanged and untransformed. However, the Taiyin, along with the five stars of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth, as well as the four additional celestial bodies, Ziqi, Yuebo, Luohou, and Jidu, are all changeable. Therefore, the sun is the sovereign, the Taiyin is the minister, and the Five Phases are the common people.

The moon borrows the light of the sun, and the Five Phases also borrow the light of the moon. Therefore, those who are favored by the yin (moon) tend to be wealthy and prosperous. If the four additional stars (four yu) gain power, they transform into weapons and military forces. When they combine with the seven celestial bodies to form a pattern, both civil and military affairs proceed together, indicating a destiny of guarding the borders. The book "Xingli" states: the moon is originally black in color, like a round plate, receiving the light of the sun. The earlier scholars have explained this clearly. Someone asks: why is the hexagram of You (the sixth) considered the palace of the yin? Because after the hour of Wu (noon), yin energy begins to arise, and the moon is the essence of water. The three hexagrams of Hai, Mao, and Wei form a wood pattern, but only the hexagram of Wei contains the longest degree of Jing Xu (Well mansion), relying on the water enclosure to achieve a mother and child relationship, thus forming the image of the yin. The earth does not harm the moon. As for the hexagram of Wu being the palace of the yang (sun), Wu and Wei combine, which signifies a minister borrowing the light of the sovereign and the moon borrowing the light of the sun.

The Heavenly Yin resides in three mansions in the heavens, namely the Legs mansion, the Wall mansion, and the Dipper mansion, all of which are the most civilized positions. If the Heavenly Yin is in the Dipper mansion and a person is born during a time when the moon is bright, and their destiny is placed in the Dipper and Cow mansions, and they reach the degree of the Root earth貉, they can pass the imperial examination and become a top scholar. If they are born during a time when the moon is dark, and their destiny is still placed in the Dipper mansion, they can only gain the power of wife and children, and when they reach the limits of the Root mansion and Horn mansion, they can only gain some wealth and blessings. If the Heavenly Yin is in the Dipper mansion and the destiny mansion is in the Legs mansion, then it is a bright moon and a position of officialdom, and when they reach the limit of the Ox mansion, they can become an imperial censor. If the destiny mansion is in the Horn mansion and the Heavenly Yin is in the Dipper mansion, then it is a wealthy destiny.

The Moon's ruler is in the Well mansion and the multitude of stars do not mix in, and the destiny is placed in the Ghost mansion. The卯 (Mao) territory of the Well mansion has stars gathering around, which indicates the destiny of a civil official. When reaching the degree of the Net mansion, one will certainly achieve success. When the Moon's ruler is in the Legs mansion, it is called "the Moon facing heaven." The destiny is placed in the You palace, and when encountering the Moon during the limit period, one can pass the imperial examination. When reaching the degree of "Wall Water Leopard," one can become a candidate for the imperial examination. For those with the Moon's ruler in the Wall mansion, the destiny is placed as "Net Moon Crow," and they should be born during a time of bright moonlight. When reaching the degrees of the Legs and Wall mansions, they can achieve consecutive success in the examinations and attain the position of a governor of the province. If they are born during the waxing or waning moon phases, they can only rely on donations of rice and grain to obtain a nominal position.

The Moon is in the Legs mansion and travels with the Purple Qi, with the命宫 located in the You mansion, and the person is born at the Hai or Zi hour. This is the image of 'auspicious clouds carrying the moon'. When the person reaches the limit of the Moon's position, they will pass the imperial examination and achieve high status. When they reach the limit of the Zi mansion, they can become a prefect. When they reach the limit of the Dipper mansion, they will die on the road. The Moon is most unsuitable when it is in the Ji, Can, Wei, and Nu mansions; such people will experience repeated reversals and unpredictable success and failure. If the Moon is in the Heart mansion with the planet Venus accompanying it, and the命宫 is in the Si mansion, then when reaching the limit of the Wei mansion, they will pass the imperial examination. If instead it is accompanied by the planet Jupiter, they will certainly become artisans skilled in carving and decorating. If the Moon is in the Net mansion and the命宫 is in the Wu mansion, they will attain the position of Imperial Censor.

The Moon is located at the tip of the Willow Mansion, and if it exceeds five degrees, it is not suitable. For example, if the命 (destiny) is in the Wei mansion and the Moon is in the Net mansion, it can achieve the top rank. However, if there is a Mars located in the four earth mansions, when it reaches the wheat field earth mansion, it will result in death. If there is no Mars in the four earth mansions, reaching the Lou and Kui mansions can result in becoming a Hanlin official. The degrees of the Willow Mansion belong to the Wei mansion, which is the native mansion of the Moon. However, when it reaches the fourth and fifth degrees of the Willow Mansion, it has already entered the Wu mansion, so it is not taken. The Moon prefers to be located outside the range between Ruo Hui and Ji Du, and it should be the master of the body mansion, or the destiny, official rank, fortune virtue, land and property, and wealth mansions, which is considered appropriate. If the Moon becomes the master of the migration, eight killers, leisure, servant, and appearance mansions, even though it may have brightness, it will result in initial success followed by disgrace, or being wandering in the world.

When the Taiyin is in the "Xianji" palace but can still be used, there are only three positions: the destiny is in You while the month is in Wei, the destiny is in Chou while the month is in Hai, and the destiny is in Si while the month is in Mao. However, even if it forms a pattern, it does not lead to great wealth. If other palaces are considered as Xianji, then it indicates a life of poverty and hardship for monks and Taoists. The classic text says: Taiyin residing in Xianji is actually auspicious, and if it also meets Huagai, it is even better. Since Taiyin is the ruler of the self, and resides in the palace of brothers, it indicates a life of leisure and wealth. Taiyin is most suitable to be in the palace of wealth, and if the wealth star is high, one will certainly enjoy a thousand measures of grain. If Taiyin is obscured by the food star, it will lead to success or failure due to ancestral property.

Heavenly Stems: Jia, Yi, Bing, Ding, Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren, Gui Earthly Branches: Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu, Hai Trigrams: Qian (Heaven), Dui (Lake), Li (Fire), Zhen (Thunder), Xun (Wind), Kan (Water), Gen (Mountain), Kun (Earth) Glossary: Baihu = White Tiger Dahao = Great Loss Xiaohao = Minor Loss When Taiyin and the wife star are in the same palace, it indicates wealth gained through the wife or through relatives who help establish a marriage. If the wealth star is already in a weak position, the person must start from scratch and build their own fortune. However, one should be cautious of the White Tiger, Fei Lian, De Sha, as well as Great Loss and Minor Loss, which may seize the wealth. Even if wealth is gained, it is likely to be short-lived, with initial success followed by failure. When the Sun and Taiyin enter the wealth palace together, it brings unexpected wealth. Those born during the day gain reputation through wealth, while those born at night first experience poverty before becoming wealthy. If Ro Luo and Ji Du are also present, the wealth will come suddenly. When Taiyin and Yuebo are in the same palace of wealth, if the wealth palace is of metal, the person will certainly lose wealth due to alcohol and women, and may even die from such indulgence. Yuebo is the residual energy of Taiyin, and it has a tendency towards alcohol and women. If it joins the wealth star in the metal palace, such events are certain to occur.

The Moon and Venus entering the wealth宫 together will surely result in gaining the mother's property and achieving success; however, this is not suitable when they enter the寅宫, which is called "Gold Riding Horse," and will certainly lead to the mother's wealth being lost and her family business ruined. If the Moon is in the "Star Day Horse" and the wealth宫 is atWu Palace, and if it also carries the Yang Blade formed by Venus, this person will steal the father's money and be born as a庶出 (illegitimate child), because the Moon as the body宫 is at午宫 and cannot receive brightness. If the brothers'宫 is of earth or wood and carriesInauspicious Sha (malevolent stars) that harm the Moon in the wealth宫, it will indicate that brothers will quarrel over money and be discordant. If the命宫 is atShen Palace and the Moon is atWei Palace orYou Palace, or if the person is destined with the "Bi Yue Wu" degree and the Moon does not leave theShen Palace's Bi degree, these all indicate being sent abroad for official positions, managing finances and grain, and becoming wealthy.

The Moon prefers to be in the official and fortune宫, but it must have brightness to be considered a noble destiny; if it is in the four墓宫 of Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, it can only be a scholar who nominally holds an official post but does not actually hold power. When the Moon is in theYin Palace orHai Palace and serves as the master of the official and fortune宫, it is most afraid of "falling into cold wood and a cold moon," which indicates a scholar who is poor and lacks warmth. When the Moon is in theZi Palace,Wu Palace,Mao Palace, orYou Palace and serves as the master of the official and fortune宫, only theYou Palace indicates someone who holds authority in the inspection and supervision of laws, while the other three宫 indicate people who come from miscellaneous paths or hold official ranks of fifth or sixth grade—because theYou Palace is where the moon rises. When the Moon, which governs wealth, enters the official and fortune宫, it signifies gaining fame through wealth, which is an official position obtained through donations. When the Moon also serves as the master of servants and enters the official and fortune宫, it indicates a career as an official clerk. The Moon prefers to be alone in the official and fortune宫, which makes it pure; if other stars are mixed in, it becomes turbid. If it is born at the waxing moon, even if it is during the day, it is still considered pure; if it is born at the waning moon and is during the day, it is refined but not substantial. Additionally, one should also consider the nature of the ruler of the official and fortune宫.

For example, if the sun is in the position of Shen, the moon is in the position of Yin, and the命宫 is in Hai, they form a grand and prosperous pattern, and the children are also refined and handsome, all conforming to the pattern. Another example is when the moon is in the position of Yin and the Yin position is considered the official position. If the planet of metal is with it, then in the official career, one will certainly suffer demotion and punishment. If further combined with 'Fei Lian' and 'Tian Xiong', one will certainly commit a crime against the imperial court. If the moon is born during a time of dim moonlight and carries the master of migration into the official position, and also carries the Yang Blade and 'Tian Xiong' and otherInauspicious Sha, then this person will certainly be punished due to reputation, exiled thousands of miles away, or face a legal dispute with an official. If the moon carries 'Ba Sha' into the official position, and the planet of metal and the planet of wood transform into 'Fei Lian', 'Bai Hu', and 'Jian Feng' to attack, when reaching this period, if there are four additional stars of the flowing years coming together, he will certainly die in the chaos of soldiers' swords. The moon is the image of the empress, with a kind and loving nature, and everyone relies on it as a mother. How could the disaster of death and destruction be avoided when encountering suchInauspicious Sha?

The planet Mars in the official fortune宫 supports the Taiyin, indicating a powerful and noble destiny, that of a general capable of sweeping the field; however, if Taiyin is accompanied by the Yang Blade, it does not like to be close to Mars and Rahu. If Taiyin enters the official fortune宫 yet remains poor, it is because the cold Moon孛 is supporting it, and the planet Venus and Mercury, bringing coldness, are attacking it, while the宫 position falls into Kongwang, being trapped by the consumption of spirit and the difficult star (the text here is missing one character). Furthermore, Taiyin is located in the initial or final degrees or restricted degrees of a certain constellation. There are also cases where the full moon on the day of the full moon is in the official fortune宫 yet the person does not achieve success, because those born at night should focus on their body degree, which is governed by a particular star. If Taiyin is obscured by other stars in the three surrounding areas and competes for light with others, and Rahu and Ji Du are close to it, then it is the destiny of a military official; only the full moon in autumn brings elegance. If the moon is in the official fortune宫 during spring and meets Venus and Mercury, it indicates a destiny as a tutor in a王府, because the moon, Venus, and Mercury all represent the gathering of yin energy, and the body is weak, which is suitable for such a leisurely position.

There is someone whose Tai Yin is seated in Ji Xu and born on a full moon day: Ji Xu governs wind, and the Jupiter star in Ji Xu can generate more wind, so even though the moonlight is bright, this person is merely a reckless individual. There is another person whose Tai Yin is born on a full moon night and seated in Yi Xu, which is already remarkable; however, Yi Xu belongs to the Si palace, which is the extreme of yang energy, and a yin star is not suitable to reside there. Moreover, Tai Yin transforms into the禄 star and the Metal star, and also controls the 'Eight Killings', thus falling again into a difficult star position. Therefore, although this person may achieve success in the early years and pass the imperial examinations, when reaching the official position palace, his career will encounter obstacles and he will need to seek alternative paths. Another case is when the命宫 is seated in Shen and Tai Yin is in Hai, born before the full moon day. The wealth star enters the official position palace, indicating that he will enjoy ancestral wealth and gain reputation through donations. However, because Tai Yin carries the Yang Blade and moves to 'Shi Fire Zhu', the fire star and Luo Hui also approach from three directions, along with Jupiter in Si, which is a place that generates wind, and the current limit itself is weak. Therefore, when reaching this limit, he will suffer from fire disasters, legal troubles, and suffer from punishments. Si belongs to the Xun hexagram, and the hexagram Xun represents wind.

Someone has the 'Wing Fire Snake' in their destiny, with the Taiyin residing in the night of expectation and falling into the 'Cen Water Monkey'. This should be called 'Favorable Residence in a Favorable Position', yet the person is poor and cold. This is because the water here transforms into 'the killer', 'Jiesha', 'Lianzhen', and 'Tianxiong', and the water and moon are overcome by the Ghost Mansion. Therefore, they cannot achieve success. Another person was born on the twelfth day of the sixth month, with Taiyin in the Room Mansion and the destiny palace in the Emptiness Mansion, becoming a teacher, but the son he raised became a thief and had no success in life. Why is this so? It is because in the height of summer, the yang energy surpasses the yin energy, and Taiyin falls into the fire mansion and is illuminated by the sun from the side, thus carrying a bad influence. Moreover, there are also Jiesha and the Yang Blade on both sides. Fortunately, there is 'Wenchang' among them, so he is somewhat literate. In reality, it is because the fire and the sun are too strong, stealing the wealth of theHai Palace (Hai Mansion) Jupiter, hence leading to poverty.

Someone who has the "Heart Moon Fox" in their destiny, with the Taiyin star sitting in Xingxu mansion, born on a full moon night and traveling with Jupiter in Zhangsu mansion, yet becomes an official in the Daoist path, is due to the Yin star occupying a place of extreme Yang, which indicates leaving the ancestral lineage and being adopted by another family. Jupiter and Zi Qi also govern "Guchen" and "Jiesha," so they become officials of the scholarly type in the Daoist path. Another case is when Taiyin is in the Xugong mansion of Kuixiu, born on a full moon night, and the destiny is established in the Weigong mansion: why do those born in the Ji year suffer poverty and loneliness, while those born in the Wu year become wealthy and prosperous? Zheng said: those born in the Ji year carry the Yangren, hence poverty and loneliness; those born in the Wu year carry the Nobleman, hence wealth and prosperity. Both have their destiny in the Weigong mansion, but for those born in the Ji year, the Yangren is in the Weigong mansion, while for those born in the Wu year, the Nobleman is in the Weigong mansion. The difference between prosperity and poverty lies here, and it should be carefully examined to be understood.

When the Moon is in the servant's palace and the person is born as a庶出 (illegitimate child), it actually indicates a high status, because the Moon represents both the mother and the illegitimate child. Now, the Moon shines brightly from the servant's palace, and has a harmonious relationship with the wealth and officialdom palaces, thus leading to wealth and honor. If the Moon is in the servant's palace but accompanied by malevolent stars and lacks brightness, the original god of the servant's palace shines brightly instead, which indicates a person of low status such as a common servant. When the Moon is in the servant's palace and meets a nobleman, it indicates a person who deals with legal documents; if it is of a lower rank, he may become wealthy through copying official documents. When the body ruler enters the 'Eight Killings' palace, it must fall into the亥 (Boar) palace, which is the heavenly gate, to form a noble pattern; if the ruler of the killing star turns away from the Moon, it forms a lowly pattern.

Someone asked: Why does a full moon on the day of the waxing moon falling into the Migration House lead to wealth and honor? The answer is: It depends on the condition of the three surrounding houses. Originally, in this person's chart, the命宫 is in卯, the Taiyin is the body palace in未, and the Moon孛 is in亥, which is exactly the Heaven Gate; it forms the image of "the Jade Rabbit Soaring into the Sky," hence leading to wealth and honor. The Moon孛 in the twelve houses generally represents a naked figure, but when it reaches the亥 house, which is the Heaven Gate, it must surely pass in splendid red robes, thus turning misfortune into fortune. Mencius's命宫 is in亥, Taiyin is in卯, and Moon孛 is in未. Although this reveals a defect called 关格, there is the teaching of the Three Moves of Meng Mu. Generally, those with Taiyin in the Migration House often achieve success only after experiencing repeated changes in their careers.

Someone whose moon has not yet reached the full moon phase and is located in the Zhang mansion, with their natal palace in Chen, would not this be a case of the禄 star residing in the fortune virtue position, indicating great wealth and status; once the Taiyin is seen, it is exactly in the center, so the body palace enters the fortune virtue palace, which is considered a 'Jiyu' great pattern. When taking Taiyin as the useful god, regardless of where it is located, it should follow the changes of the sun, and consider the stars that it dislikes, likes, and is angry with, in this way there will be no inaccuracy. Liu Guoshi's natal palace is located in Hai, with Taiyin occupying the handle of the ladle, and all the stars shining brightly towards the south, while the Jupiter is located in the Bi mansion, so he could become a teacher to the emperor. The classic says: the moon is the mother of a person, originally possessing the vitalizing energy, so taking it as the useful god is most essential.

The Tai Yin star is most disliked when it encounters the "Dou Sha" (clashing stars) — that is, when the Earth Star has just passed and the Ji Du star comes, or when the Fire Star has just passed and the Luo Hui star comes, resulting in a clash between the preceding and succeeding stars. As for the Water Star, the Moon孛, the Wood Star, and the Zi Qi, they move in a harmonious direction, so they are not a problem. In summary, what is feared is the clash: the star that clashes brings death, while the one that moves in harmony brings only misfortune. If the Tai Yin star is involved in a clash and is located in a place of difficulty, it will result in death by chaos; if the clash occurs in a place of vitality and strength, it can lead to good fortune from misfortune. For example, if the "Fourth Month" degree is involved in a clash, it is also not good. The Tai Yin star is naturally a quiet star, preferring to reside in a yin palace, and it is favorable to encounter auspicious stars and times of the same night. This is the way to gain fortune; how could it not bring disaster when encounteringInauspicious Sha (malevolent stars) that are in conflict? Even the stars in the heavens are like this, let alone the people on earth. Ning Wang's destiny is of the "Ten Thousand Waters Flowing to the Ancestral Temple" pattern, with the Wood Star and Tai Yin star enclosing his命宫 (destiny palace). However, because the Earth Star, Ji Du, and Luo Hui have transformed into the Yang Blade and gathered in theMao Palace (Mao palace), he encountered danger after his death.

To determine the fate of a child, one must observe the position of the Moon (太阴) within the three days after birth. The Moon moves one degree every hour, so it is essential to carefully examine the initial and final moments of each hour, accurately determining the degrees covered in the upper and lower four hours. Only then can the subtle intricacies be understood. If the Moon falls in the Fire Earth (火地) position, it is most dangerous if the Water Star (水星) or the Moon孛 (月孛) approaches, leading to dangers such as drowning or mistakenly taking medicine. If the Jupiter (木星) is near the Moon and transforms into a malevolent star, the child will suffer from diseases of the spleen and stomach and malaria. If the Metal Star (金星) is near the Moon in the Wood degree, the child will suffer from coughing and asthma and may also harm the wife. If the Rahu (罗睺) is near the Moon in the four Metal degrees, the child will suffer from diseases of the hands, feet, eyes, and ears. If the Moon孛 is opposite the Moon in the four Metal degrees, the child will suffer illness due to excessive indulgence in wine and lust. If the Water Star is with the Moon in the four Wood degrees, the child will be a physician or practitioner of miscellaneous trades. If the Purple Star (紫气) is with the Moon in the four Wood degrees, the child will be a monk or Taoist. If the Metal Star is with the Moon in the Heart Moon Fox (心月狐) position, the child will be a skilled artisan.

Someone asked why the Tai Yin is considered a blessing star. The answer is: arriving early brings fortune, but arriving late depends on its degree of position. Any situation where Tai Yin forms a noble pattern includes "Tai Yi embracing the toad," being in a quiet and extreme position, being guarded by the sun and moon, having one star accompany the moon, fire and moon appearing together in the same night, the sun and moon approaching the palace, metal assisting the moon's brightness, the mother relying on the sun and moon, auspicious clouds holding the moon, the sun and moon being in the same palace, the sun and moon mutually supporting each other, fire and metal meeting the moon, and wood and moon bringing clear dignity. These are all considered noble and are judged according to noble fate. If Tai Yin is within the person's life limit, then its position in the four cardinal directions and the three aspects is considered. If Tai Yin is not present in the limit, then other stars are examined. If in old age one reaches the limit of Tai Yin but the limit is unfavorable, then it is not a good end. If Tai Yin appears and its condition is good, then one can enjoy the blessings. Tai Yin prefers to be ahead of the sun, and dislikes being behind the sun. Being behind the sun is called "turning away from the sovereign."

When determining the rank of an official, one must examine the degree where the official star is located, as well as the overall pattern and the position of the useful god. If the degree where the official star is located is weak, then one should look at the degree of the useful god instead. If both the pattern and the useful god are in their proper places, it indicates a high-ranking official in the capital. If the pattern and useful god are both good, but the wealth star is mixed among the official and favor stars, and the favor star is far from the position of the sovereign, it indicates an official appointed to a remote area. If the pattern is high but there is some damage within it, it indicates an official of the fourth or fifth rank serving outside the capital. If the star of literary excellence is strong and the yin star is also good, it indicates a position as a censor or official responsible for speech. If the star of residual energy and the useful god are both strong, one is certainly in charge of military affairs. If the star of Ruo is acting as the official leader, or if it is facing the position of the sovereign, one can gain favor in the capital. If the pattern is taken from the outer disk and the seven stars are mixed and unclear, it indicates a position obtained through miscellaneous means. If wealth and禄 are in constant movement, if the wealth star and the post-horse star exchange positions, or if the禄 spirit falls into the wealth palace, it indicates a person who became a monitor through donation.

There are also cases where someone has not entered school or passed the examination to become a scholar, yet becomes an official in civilian clothes. In such cases, one must focus on the concepts of 'Doubiao', 'Guaqi', 'Lumu', 'Yuan', 'Tianjing', 'Diwei', 'Tangfu', 'Guoyin', 'Guiren', and the Three Yuan. Next, one should check whether there is an 'Enxing' (favoring star) in the inner disk. If the main star's palace is weak, and both the palace ruler and degree ruler are also weak, but the fortune limit is good, then one can attain a central government post through intelligence and literary talent. If the body and degree are strong, and the sun is powerful with support from surrounding stars, then one has inherited the father's favor. Those whose original structure is intact will gradually rise to central government positions, while those with a broken structure can only reach positions in the outer regions. The auspicious stars such as Doubiao, Guaqi, Tianjing, Diwei, Tangfu, and Guoyin must be carefully calculated according to established rules—this is the secret star method passed down by Zhang Guo, the master of profound astronomy.
