Reversal of the Limitations: The Ultimate Principle

且如倒限一說，根挨度數而推。倒限即前土躔木，木躔土，限若至土度必死等例。有殺刃者遇太歲必傷。殺者克限度星也，刃者陽刃、陰刃、飛刃。有刃宮、刃星、刃度必須要看流年，太歲會合沖照以決生死，無殺刃者總凶不死。如限宮限度二主受傷，原守與流年無陽刃、陰刃、飛刃，又無太歲相干而不死。

The concept of "reversed limits" must be calculated step by step. Reversed limits refer to cases such as when Saturn is in the Wood constellation and Jupiter is in the Earth constellation, where if the limit reaches that Earth degree, death is certain. Those with a killing star or a blade star in their fate will certainly suffer injury if they meet the Tai Su. The "killing star" refers to the star that restrains the limit; the "blade" refers to the Yang Blade, Yin Blade, and Feiren. If there is a blade palace, blade star, or blade degree in the fate, one must also examine the flow year, judging life and death based on whether the Tai Su combines with or conflicts with it. If the original fate has neither a killing star nor a blade star, even if the limit and fortune are dangerous, death will not occur. For example, if both the ruler of the limit palace and the ruler of the limit degree are injured, but the original chart has no Yang Blade, Yin Blade, or Feiren, and no Tai Su interferes, then death will not occur.

子虛女度木氣真凶。虛日子宮正垣之土，女土乃偏垣之土，限行此處皆怕木氣。丑宮斗木金亦為憂。斗木乃偏垣之木，故限行此處忌金克。惟有牛金獨氣為害。牛金乃正垣之土，所以遇氣為害。箕水寅宮木水兩取，土當火令水弱必傷，若逢春令秋冬卻又不能為害。木為限宮之主，水是限度之元，故曰：水木兩取生。當夏令火旺土強，遇土必傷，其餘月分又不待解而自明矣。

The days when the Empty Day and the Female Earth meet the "Purple Qi" are truly ominous. The Empty Day is located in theZi Palace (uterus) position, which belongs to the native soil; the Female Earth is the secondary soil. When the limit reaches these positions, they both fear the wooden "Purple Qi" that comes to overcome them. The斗木 (Dǒu Mù) in the丑 (Chǒu) position meets the "Golden Star" and causes worry, because the斗木 is a secondary wooden element, so when the limit reaches here, it fears the metal to overcome it. Only in the牛金 (Niú Jīn) position, the "Purple Qi" alone can be harmful—since the牛金 is the native soil, it is harmed by the wooden "Purple Qi." The箕水 (Jī Shuǐ) in the寅 (Yín) position has the palace belonging to wood and the degree belonging to water, thus both wood and water are taken. If the Earth Star is in charge and the fire command is present, the water's strength is already weak, and it will certainly be harmed by the earth. If it meets the spring or autumn-winter seasons, the earth will not be able to harm it. Wood is the master of the limit palace, and water is the origin of the limit degree, so it is said that both water and wood are taken and mutually generate. When it reaches the summer season with strong fire and strong earth, encountering earth will certainly cause harm; the other months do not need to be explained, and it is naturally understood.

尾火度內寅卯兩端，寅宮屬木水孛禍輕，卯末尾初羅水必死。寅宮尾度乃木正垣，故遇水孛禍輕，卯垣宮度皆火，但逢水孛禍重，若犯羅奴兩宮皆死。心月之躔最忌土計，土計掩月，房日之宿怕見水孛。房日卯宮正垣之火，故怕水孛。氐土火垣木弱不克，辰宮末度木氣必傷。卯宮氐度乃火垣之土，雖遇木氣內有生意存焉。惟有辰宮氐土者乃是金鄉，洩氣之土所以一遇木氣必傷之也何疑。

The Tail Star (尾宿) in the fire element spans the boundary between the寅 (Yin) and卯 (Mao) mansions. In the寅 mansion, it belongs to wood, so encountering the Water Star and the Moon孛 (Bose) causes less harm. However, when it reaches the end of the卯 mansion and the beginning of the Tail Star, encountering the Rahu and water will certainly result in death. The Tail Star in the寅 mansion is the original mansion of wood, so it is less affected by water and Bose. But in the卯 mansion, both the mansion and the degree belong to fire, so encountering water and Bose causes more severe harm. If it also collides with Rahu, the star of the leftover slave, both mansions lead to death. The Heart Moon (心月) is most dangerous when encountering the Earth Star and Ji Du, because the Earth and Ji Du obscure the moonlight. The Room Sun (房日) mansion is most feared when encountering water and Bose — the Room Sun in the卯 mansion is the original mansion of fire, so it fears water which can overcome fire. The Earth (氐土) in the fire mansion is within the fire element, so the wood force is weak and cannot overcome the earth. However, when it reaches the end of the辰 (Chen) mansion, the Purple Qi (紫气), which is wood, will certainly harm it. The Earth in the卯 mansion is earth born from fire, so even though it meets Purple Qi, there is still a mutual generation relationship. Only when the Earth in the辰 mansion is in the metal mansion, which is a leaking earth, does it inevitably suffer harm from the Purple Qi wood. There is no doubt about this.

亢金堅實不忌火羅、怕逢夏令。金宮金度故曰堅實，惟夏生火羅倒限無疑。角木焦枯，專嫌羅火、金亦為憂。金宮木度名曰焦枯，不問四時皆畏火羅焚折、又忌金克。軫占辰巳兩宮，土計能傷巳宮之水，氣星能奪辰宮之軫。巳宮之軫水宮，水度土計皆凶，辰宮之軫金宮水度惟怕氣洩。

The star Kanglei is strong and solid, so it is not afraid of the "Mars" or "Luohou," but it is afraid of encountering summer. Kanglei is located in the metal palace of Chen, and both the palace and the degree belong to metal, so it is solid. However, those born in summer will encounter fire and Luohou, which will cause bad fortune. The star Jumo is called "Jiaoku," and it particularly dislikes Luohou and fire. Even encountering the "Jinxing" is worrying, because it is a wooden degree within a metal palace, hence called Jiaoku. It fears fire and Luohou in all seasons, and also dislikes Jinxing which can suppress it. The water mansion Zh轸 spans over the Chen and Si palaces. The "Tuxing" and "Jidu" can harm the water in the Si palace, while "Ziqi" can take away the Zh轸 in the Chen palace. The Zh轸 in the Si palace has a palace of water and a degree of water, so it is dangerous when encountering Tuxing and Jidu. The Zh轸 in the Chen palace has a palace of metal and a degree of water, so it is afraid of Ziqi which can drain its energy.

翼火水垣冬嫌土計。翼火巳宮正垣之水，故嫌土計倒限。星日太陽卻忌木羅。星日午宮太陽正垣，故忌木氣火羅爭掩。午宮張月木氣土計皆凶，巳宮張宿怕見土計為殃。午宮張度兼太陽論，故怕木氣土計也，巳宮張宿水宮之月惟怕土計。柳土二宮未柳忌計，午柳忌木。未柳兼月故忌計，午柳宮度皆怕木。

The fire of the Wing Mansion falls in the Si (Snake) Palace, which is the proper water enclosure, so it dislikes the Earth Star and Ji Du, resulting in a reversed limit. The Star Day belongs to the Sun, yet it dislikes the Purple Qi and Luo Hui. The Star Day is in the Wu (Horse) Palace, which is the native enclosure of the Sun, so it dislikes the Wood of Purple Qi and the Fire and Luo Hui that obscure the sunlight. The Moon of the Zhang Mansion in the Wu Palace meets Purple Qi and Earth Ji Du, which are harmful. The Zhang Mansion in the Si Palace fears encountering Earth Ji Du. The Liou Earth Mansion spans across the Wu and Wei Palaces: the Liou in the Wei Palace dislikes Ji Du, and the Liou in the Wu Palace dislikes Wood. The Liou in the Wei Palace must be considered together with the Moon, so it dislikes the Earth of Ji Du obscuring the Moon. The Liou in the Wu Palace dislikes Wood that attacks Earth, both in its Palace and Degree.

鬼金正垣、忌計、忌羅。忌計者兼宮論，忌羅者以度言。並懼計土又怕金旺。計土傷宮金旺克度。參嫌奴孛土亦為憂。孛為餘奴犯主，土是克限之星。畢觜忌氣，又怕土計為災，不問申酉二宮，最怕計氣焦渴。畢月觜火二度，最怕土計。昴日胃土見木為凶。木能蔽日，木能克土。

The ghostly gold is located in the Wei palace, and it is disliked by both "Jidi" and "Luohou." Disliking Jidi refers to the palace itself, while disliking Luohou refers to the degree. It fears Jidi's earth element, and also fears excessive metal energy—Jidi's earth harms the palace, and strong metal energy overcomes the degree. It also dislikes the "Yuben" star, which is a leftover servant, and the "Saturn" star, which causes worry: Yuben is a leftover servant that harms the main ruler, and Saturn is a star that overcomes the limit. The Biyue and Zhihuo constellations dislike "Zi qi," and also fear "Saturn" and "Jidi" as disasters; regardless of whether they fall in the Shen palace or You palace, they most fear Jidi and Zi qi causing them to wither. The Biyue and Zhihuo degrees most fear earth and Jidi. The Maorì and Weituo degrees are凶 when encountering wood: wood can block sunlight, and wood can overcome earth.

婁金火殿又忌水星，設逢夏令最嗔羅?。婁金戌宮正垣之火，故忌水孛。如生夏令又怕羅星傷其度也。奎中金氣皆是凶神。金乃克度氣為奴星。壁水忌土又怕奴孛。土為煞星孛為奴餘。室火木垣、金氣羅計皆凶。金是傷宮之氣，羅為奴星犯度。

Liu Jin was sitting in the Xu Palace fire hall, and he also disliked the "Water Star"; if he was born in the summer season, he would be most troubled by "Ruo Hou"—the text here is missing one character, written as "?", but according to the notes below, the missing character should still refer to "Ruo Star." The Xu Palace where Liu Jin is located is the proper domain of fire, so he dislikes the "Water Star" and "Yue Bo" to break the fire domain; if he was born in the summer season, he would also fear Ruo Hou damaging its degree. In the Kui Wood mansion, both the "Gold Star" and the "Zi Qi" areInauspicious Spirit: Gold is the star that conquers the native degree, and Zi Qi is the slave of the remaining four. In the Bi Water mansion, it is also disliked to have the "Earth Star," and it also fears "Yue Bo," this slave of the remaining four: Earth is a malevolent star, and Bo is the slave of the four remaining. The Shi Fire mansion falls in the Hai Palace Wood domain, and the "Gold Star," "Zi Qi," "Ruo Hou," and "Ji Du" are allInauspicious Spirit: Gold is the star that harms the native air of this mansion, and Ruo is the slave of the remaining four coming to attack the native degree.

煞若同行其度，不以為利。此殺者陰陽二刃的煞，劫煞天雄地雌，飛廉劍鋒值難等殺皆是。更看命在何宮、限主何處、於斯消詳、決不失也。已上所論者不過限行至某度遇某星以定禍福也，更看安命在何宮何度，又觀限宮主限度主起躔何如，由斯消詳推之，而萬無一失。

If a malevolent star meets these stars in the same degree, it becomes even more unfavorable. The term "shà" here includes two types of blade stars, namely "Yin Blade" and "Yang Blade," as well as other malevolent stars such as "De Shà," "Jie Sha," "Tian Xiong," "Di Ci," "Fei Lian," "Jian Feng," and "Zhi Nan." One must also consider the position of the native's birth chart in which palace it is located and where the limit ruler falls, and then carefully examine and judge accordingly, so as not to make mistakes. The above discussion merely refers to when the limit reaches a certain degree and meets a certain star, thereby determining fortune or misfortune; one must also look at the palace and degree where the native's birth chart is located, and observe the situation of the ruler of the limit palace and the ruler of the limit degree, and thus make a detailed analysis to ensure accuracy.

餘奴怕傷主，洩氣最為殃。如限在箕水度、以水為主，水孛同躔一處，或孛前水後，謂之餘奴抗主，或水星起於別宮，獨孛占其本殿亦謂傷主。雖限行箕水、壁水、軫水、參水四正之度，皆為相關，行對頂度處見禍，卻要生於春夏秋季月內是也。若生冬月水星秉令，則謂之奴主相扶反吉論也。

The four additional celestial bodies are considered as servants, and they are most dangerous when they reverse and harm their master. The greatest harm comes from the leakage of energy. For example, if the planetary limit falls in the first degree of Ji Water, then water is the master. At this time, if the Water Star and the Moon孛 are in the same position, or if the Moon孛 is ahead and the Water Star is behind, it is called "servant opposing the master." Alternatively, if the Water Star originates from another palace and only the Moon孛 occupies the native palace, it is also considered as harming the master. When the planetary limit reaches the four main degrees of Ji Water, Wall Water, Zhěn Water, and Cān Water, they are interconnected with each other. When they reach the opposite degree, it also brings misfortune. However, this is only considered valid if it occurs in the months of spring, summer, and autumn. If it occurs in the month of winter, when the Water Star is in its prime, it is called "servant and master supporting each other," and it is considered a good omen.

木火土星仿此例推之，若主起高強，雖餘奴犯度亦不為害。我去生他，挈去我之氣脈為洩，五星背令最怕逢之，如金見水孛，木見火羅，水見木氣，火見土計，土見金星，四正度相逢亦凶限，至洩星度與本宮宿亦凶。

The three stars of wood, fire, and earth follow this example. If the main star is strong and rises high, even if the four subordinate stars come to attack its degree, they cannot cause harm. Any star that comes to generate me, or leads away my energy, is called "leakage." The five stars are most afraid of leakage when they are out of their season. For example, metal is harmed by the water star and the moon孛, wood is harmed by the fire star and the Luo Hui, water is harmed by the purple qi wood, fire is harmed by the earth star and the Ji Du, and earth is harmed by the metal star. When these stars meet in the four cardinal degrees, it is considered a凶 limit. When the limit reaches the degree of a star that causes leakage, or the native's own degree, it is also considered凶.

二殺不攻一殺，忌黨其剛。如木躔氐土氣亦躔女土是也。或氣躔胃土柳土亦是謂之二殺；須要頂度親切亦要二殺兩強無生無克，則彼此抗敵不暇攻我，宜仔細看，如此者又不死。又一殺受生，一殺受制，則強者便有侵克之禍矣，餘仿此論。又如水在尾火，孛亦在室火，如火在牛金，羅亦在婁金，如土在軫水、計亦在參水是也。

Two killing stars will not attack the same place together, but one should be cautious if they join forces and enhance each other's strength. For example, if the planet Jupiter is in the sign of the Earthly Branch 'Di' (Taurus), and the 'Zi Qi' (Purple Cloud) is also in the sign of 'Nv' (Virgo), this is such a case. Similarly, if 'Zi Qi' is in 'Wei' (Leo) or 'Liu' (Cancer), it is also considered two killing stars. The degree of opposition should be close enough to count, and the two killing stars should be equal in strength, with neither giving birth to nor controlling the other, so they can counterbalance each other and not attack me. In such a case, it is considered not fatal, and one must be careful to distinguish. If one killing star is being nourished and the other is being restrained, then the stronger one will bring about an attacking and controlling effect, and the rest follows the same pattern. For instance, if Mercury is in 'Wei' (Leo) and 'Yue Bo' (Moon孛) is also in 'Shi' (Capricorn), if Mars is in 'Niu' (Taurus) and 'Luo Hou' (Rahu) is also in 'Lou' (Gemini), if Saturn is in 'Zhen' (Sagittarius) and 'Ji Du' (Ketu) is also in 'Can' (Orion), these are all examples of the same principle.

殺者克限度之星也，如木克土切忌水孛同到，黨起木星為禍更緊，限至土度即死。對合亦為害，且要端的詳。對以沖照言、合以三方言，凡有一星傷限又怕黨殺，更會刃度合即死，若殺星雖云對合，或自坐受制之宮，當活法斷之。須看合何處凶吉在何方。

The term "kill star" refers to the star that imposes a limiting constraint. For example, if wood comes to overcome earth, it is most dangerous if the "water star" and "moon孛" also arrive at the same time, because water nourishes wood, thereby enhancing the power of wood, leading to more severe consequences. When the limit of the life span reaches the earth degree, death occurs. In contrast, the triple harmony can also be harmful, but it must be carefully distinguished: "opposition" refers to the opposing palace and its confrontation, while "harmony" refers to the convergence from three directions. If a star injures the limit, one should be afraid of another star joining forces to assist the killer star; if it also combines with a sharp degree, death occurs immediately. However, even if the killer star is said to be in opposition or triple harmony, if it itself is seated in a palace that is being controlled, one should flexibly interpret the situation, and also consider where it actually combines and whether the fortune is favorable or unfavorable in that direction.

凡死者多是刃度方驗，如日掌刃則四日度皆刃也。如月掌刃則四月度皆刃也，如土掌刃則四土度皆刃也，如金掌刃則四金度皆刃也，如火掌刃則四火度皆刃也，故交刃殺並踏之限為真關是也，又遇流年殺與當生殺重併合命，沖限傷身者必死之人也。如三合者在三度內方死，如對合者不過一度內而死矣。

All cases of death are mostly effective only when they reach the blade degree. For example, if the Sun holds the blade, then the four day degrees of Fang Ri, Xu Ri, Mao Ri, and Xing Ri are all considered blade degrees; if the Moon holds the blade, then the four month degrees of Xin Yue, Wei Yue, Bi Yue, and Zhang Yue are all blade degrees; if Earth holds the blade, then the four earth degrees of Di Tu, Nu Tu, Wei Tu, and Liu Tu are all blade degrees; if Metal holds the blade, then the four metal degrees of Kang Jin, Niu Jin, Lou Jin, and Gui Jin are all blade degrees; if Fire holds the blade, then the four fire degrees of Wei Huo, Shi Huo, Zui Huo, and Yi Huo are all blade degrees. Therefore, when the blade degree and the killing star both enter the limit, it is the true death period. If in addition, the killing star of the current year coincides with the killing star of the native's birth chart and they meet in the命宫, and they conflict with the limit and injure the body palace, then it is certain death. If it is supported by three directions, it will result in death within three degrees; if it is opposite and conflicts with the palace, it will result in death within one degree.

關前節後死，關後節前亡。初交限入宮者為初關也，當此之時必死於本月節之後也。限行滿宮者為末關也，當此之時必死於本月節之前也。中關節上死，末關節下傷。中關者即刃星合度是也，當此之時其人必死於本月節之日也。末關者即滿宮滿度是也，凡行此度者看算多少，若近一度一日死、二度二日死、三度三日死、四度即四日死也。

The death predicted before the gate occurs after the change of the solar term, and the death predicted after the gate occurs before the change of the solar term. When the limit first enters the palace, it is called "initial gate," and those encountering this gate will die after the solar term changes in the same month. When the limit reaches the palace and completes its course, it is called "final gate," and those encountering this gate will die before the solar term changes in the same month. The middle gate occurs on the day of the solar term change, and the final gate causes harm below the solar term change: the middle gate refers to where the sharp star coincides with the limit, and those encountering this gate will die on the day of the solar term change in the same month; the final gate refers to where the palace and limit are full. For those who reach this degree, observe how many degrees are left: if one degree remains, death occurs within one day; if two degrees remain, death occurs within two days; if three degrees remain, death occurs within three days; if four degrees remain, death occurs within four days.

又怕流年煞飛來更急忙。飛來殺即流年陽刃、飛刃、劫煞、的煞怕與當生會合流年煞也，飛來到限並命傷身必死無疑。四正相關攝不解三方殃。四正即子午卯酉虛房昴星度之類，如四正有殺刃為險，須四正之吉星可援。若三方雖有吉星，無救於四險之強也。

One is also afraid that the evil influences of the current year's stars will come suddenly, making the situation even more urgent.所谓飞来之杀 refers to the evil influences of the current year's 「Yang Blade」, 「Flying Blade」, 「Jiesha」, and 「the killer stars」. The most dangerous thing is when these evil influences combine with the harmful stars already present in one's original birth chart. If they are further compounded by the evil influences of the current year, and if these harmful stars appear in the current year's limits, approach the命宫, and harm the body palace, death is certain. Although the four cardinal directions are interconnected and can contain each other, they cannot resolve the harm caused by the three directions. The four cardinal directions refer to the four palaces of Zi, Wu, Mao, and You, as well as degrees such as Fu, Ri, Mao, and Xing. If there are harmful stars or blades in these four cardinal directions, it is considered dangerous, and one must rely on auspicious stars in these four cardinal directions for salvation. Even if there are auspicious stars in the three directions, they cannot counteract the strong harmful influences of the four cardinal directions.

三方有吉星不救四險強。三方即申子辰之類，如三方有殺刃為殃，須三方之吉星可解，若四正雖有吉星無救於三方之厄也。四正度有星，仔細辨凶吉。四正者子午卯酉、寅申巳亥、辰戌丑未，有四月、四日度、四火度、四水度、四土度、四金度、四木度之類，宜仔細檢看，如一度處受克，則四度內皆殃矣。

Even if there are auspicious stars in the three directions, they cannot counteract the strong negative influences from the four cardinal positions. The three directions refer to triads like Shen-Zi-Chen, which are water triads. If there are harmful stars or sharp edges in the three directions, they will cause trouble, and the auspicious stars in the three directions must be used to resolve these issues. Even if there are auspicious stars in the four cardinal positions, they cannot save the three directions from disaster. For the four cardinal positions, if there are stars present, one must carefully determine whether they are auspicious or harmful. The four cardinal positions refer to the groups of Zi-Wu-Mao-You, Yin-Shen-Si-Hai, and Chen-Xu-Chou-Mei. Within these groups, there are also four months, four days, four fire degrees, four water degrees, four earth degrees, four metal degrees, and four wood degrees, which should be carefully examined. If any one of these degrees is harmed, all four degrees of the same type will suffer consequences.

又怕劃度星，遇之並言實。劃度者則四餘犯本主度也，如孛犯四水度、氣犯四木度、羅犯四火度，計犯四土度也。子虛有土星，三冬人須卒。子虛有土，人以為土星居垣為吉，殊不知三冬生人水星得令之時，虛日中有火乃敗弱之火，既被水制，又以土星臨之，火又生土全為洩氣，故主倒限。此論各宮正垣度數喜忌之分。

Again, one must be cautious of the "Hua Du" star, for when it encounters the main degree, it should be treated as an actual calamity.the so-called "Hua Du" refers to the four remaining stars (Si Yu) invading the main degree of their respective elements: for example, the "Yue Bo" star invades the four water degrees, the "Zi Qi" star invades the four wood degrees, the "Luo Hou" star invades the four fire degrees, and the "Ji Du" star invades the four earth degrees. If there is a Saturn in the "Xu Su" mansion of the "Xu" degree, those born in the winter months should beware of sudden death: if there is a Saturn on the "Xu" day, people generally consider Saturn residing in its own mansion as auspicious, but they do not realize that those born in the winter months are precisely during the time when the water star is in command. The "Xu" day contains a weak fire, which is subdued by water, and with Saturn above it, the fire further generates earth, resulting in a complete loss of energy, thus leading to a shortened lifespan. This passage discusses the distinctions of auspicious and inauspicious influences on the main degrees of each mansion.

女土好齊瓶，九夏水為疾。女土在子乃本宮則吉，蓋夏月水到其上則凶，夏月土旺正受火生之勢乾燥，若見水到謂之暴水反能漂土敗火，如見水必主死也。丑牛有金星，遇土須當吉。牛金見土則富貴，見水孛則死也。

The female earth mansion (Niuxu) is favorable when paired with the Baojing Palace, but in the height of summer, the presence of water brings misfortune. When the female earth mansion is in the Zi Palace, it is in its native palace and is naturally auspicious. However, in summer, the earth is at its peak strength and is also supported by fire, making the atmosphere dry. If water appears at this time, it is called 'sudden water,' which can wash away the earth and extinguish the fire, leading to death. If there is a metal star in the Chou Palace along with the female earth mansion, and the earth star is present, it is considered auspicious, indicating wealth and honor. If instead, the water star or the moon孛 are present, it signifies death.

尾火怕秋金，冬水傷房日。尾火何須怕金，蓋尾火在寅初生之火本弱，秋金秉肅殺之氣至剛至堅，金在其上反傷寅木，木減則火敗。故謂之倒限，房日之中有火，冬月水到其上，即令星傷日下之火，或水日同躔度，行房日並主倒限。

The fire in the Tail (Wei) is afraid of the metal of autumn and the water of winter, which can harm the Day Star of the Room (Fang Ri). The fire in the Tail should not fear metal, but because the fire in the Tail is in the寅 (Yin) palace, which is the place of its birth, and it is inherently weak; the metal of autumn is strong and sharp, and when it presses upon it, it harms the wood in the寅 palace. When the wood declines, the fire also declines, so it is called reverse destiny. The Day Star of the Room contains fire, and when water of winter comes upon it, it is the current star that harms the fire below; or when the water star and the sun are in the same degree, and the limit moves to the Room and Day, it also indicates reverse destiny.

秋土損亢金，計都又相逼。亢金秋月至堅至剛，更見土計生之，是物極則反主夭。又有翼火蛇、遇木三冬滅。翼火乃巳鄉之火，巳乃水垣其勢本弱，所謂無焰之火也。木雖生火而三冬之木乃為溼木，而加於本弱之火，非惟不能生之，而反足以滅之矣。

In the autumn, the earth element tends to be excessive and overbearing, and the star 'Ji Du' comes to press upon it. The star 'Kang Jin' is already extremely firm and strong in the autumn month, and when the 'Earth Star' and 'Ji Du' come to generate it, it reaches the extreme, leading to a reversal, which results in premature death. Additionally, the 'Yi Huo Sha' star, when encountered in the three winter months, is overcome by wood. The 'Yi Huo Sha' is fire in the Si palace, and the Si palace belongs to the water domain, so its strength is naturally weak, which is called fire without flame. Although wood can generate fire, the wood in the three winter months is damp wood, which, when added to already weak fire, does not generate it but instead suffocates it.

星日與翼同，井鬼土計切。星日與翼同者，星屬午垣乃太陽之殿，人知木掩太陽，在他時猶秉令司權，木不能為之掩，獨三冬之日為寒日，故懼畏木與翼火同也。井二十九度至鬼二度乃月之正垣，是以怕土計，秋生人決主倒限。

The taboos for the Star Mansion and the Wing Fire are the same, while the Well Mansion and the Ghost Mansion must strictly avoid "Saturn" and "Ji Du." The reason Star Mansion and Wing Fire share the same taboos is that the Star Mansion belongs to theWu Palace (Midday Palace), which is the hall of the Sun; people only know that wood can obscure the Sun, but actually, in other seasons the Sun still holds power and cannot be blocked by wood. Only during the three winter months does the Sun become a cold Sun, hence the fear of wood, which is similar to the situation with Wing Fire. The Well Mansion spans from 29 degrees to the second degree of the Ghost Mansion, which is the proper domain of the Moon. Therefore, it fears Saturn and Ji Du blocking the Moon. Those born in autumn who reach this area will certainly suffer from reversed destiny.

刃月最怕木不死生重疾。設若富貴人見之破屋宅。角木遇之凶，斗木遇之吉，若犯奎井度十有九人絕。如六己生人月為刃星，躔在四木度，縱不死亦多災。斗木遇之吉者，以大月當斗為合格，故云為吉。而角木為金鄉之木殺氣愈重，奎木為火鄉之木見金愈怒，井木為刃鄉之木，又不言而可知也。

The Moon's ruler, Taiyin, is most afraid of wood; if it meets wood, even if it does not result in death, it will cause a serious illness. If a wealthy and prosperous person encounters this, it indicates the destruction of their home. When encountering Jiao wood, it is凶 (unfavorable), but when encountering Dou wood, it is吉 (favorable). If Taiyin conflicts with Kui wood and Jing wood, out of ten cases, nine will result in death. For example, those born in the sixth Ji year take Taiyin as their ruler star. If Taiyin is located above four wood degrees, even if they do not die, they will suffer many calamities. The reason Dou wood is considered favorable is because when the full moon is in Dou, it is considered a proper and harmonious situation, hence it is called favorable. As for Jiao wood, it is wood within the metal domain, and its killing energy is even stronger. Kui wood is wood within the fire domain, and when it meets metal, it becomes even more furious. Jing wood is wood within the ruler's domain, so it is unnecessary to say more; one can imagine the consequences.

昴日忌火羅，參水怕孛洩。昴日度有金是金垣也，最怕火羅犯其上，若兩星同到則抗敵不死，但有重災。一星到其上，十有九死，日生最重，夜生金火有情不死有之，參乃水之正垣不怕土計，又怕奴孛劃度，冬令不忌謂之奴主相扶。

The昴 star mansion fears the presence of the Mars and the Rahu; the参 star mansion is afraid of the Moon孛 coming to drain its energy. The昴 star mansion is associated with metal, as it is located in the酉 palace, which is the metal palace. It is most vulnerable to fire and Rahu invading its position. If both Mars and Rahu arrive together, they will oppose each other and the result will be a severe disaster but not necessarily death. However, if only one of them appears above it, there is a high chance of death. Those born during the day are most affected, while those born at night may have some relief, as metal and fire can coexist, and there may still be survival. The参 star mansion is the main water palace, and it is naturally not afraid of the Saturn or the Ji Du. However, it fears the Moon孛, which is a leftover slave, coming to disrupt it. In winter, there is no need to avoid this, as it is called "slave and master supporting each other."

婁金忌水星，孛亦能作孽。婁金度者乃火殿也，蓋水到其上能殺金下之火，謂之水破火垣。冬季至凶，別季別論。若孛到其上亦殺金下之火，如無救則主倒限也。室火木之垣，金羅難說吉。室火中有木乃木之垣也，金能克木。羅亦能洩氣亦主不吉。

Liu Jin Su is忌 "Water Star" ("Shui Xing"), and "Moon孛" ("Yue Bo") is also capable of causing trouble. At one time, Liu Jin was located in the Xu Palace, which is the hall of fire. When water reaches above it, it can extinguish the fire beneath the metal, which is called "Water breaking the Fire Enclosure" ("Shui Po Huo Yuan"). This is most dangerous in winter, and other seasons are considered separately; if Moon孛 reaches above it, it also extinguishes the fire beneath the metal. If there is no saving star, it indicates a reversal of fortune. The Fire Host of Shi is in the native enclosure of wood. Encountering "Metal Star" ("Jin Xing") and "Ruo Hou" ("Luo Hou") is difficult to consider as auspicious: Fire within Shi contains wood, because the亥 Palace is the native enclosure of wood; metal can overcome wood, and Luo Hou can also dissipate the energy of wood, so it also indicates inauspiciousness.

須看刃煞星，難忌井刑值。刃者陽刃也。殺者克限度星也，難者八殺宮主也，忌者晝火夜土也，刑者三刑也，值者值難之類也，更落空亡位遇者壽元折。空者六甲旬中也，限若遇之凶煞加臨則主死矣。或一星而掌數煞者或兩星而齊到者，又忌三合四正沖照的死無疑。春夏與秋冬，休囚並死絕，吉凶如影響，此是黃金訣，已上四句須貫通而言之也，凡學者深求玩味細密精微無不中矣。

One must also consider the blade, the killer stars, difficulties, taboos, punishments, and the value. The blade refers to the Yang Blade; the killer star refers to the star that limits control; difficulty refers to the ruler of the eight killer palaces; taboo refers to the prohibition of fire in the day and earth at night; punishment refers to the three punishments; and value refers to matters like the value of difficulty. If it falls on the position of Kongwang, the lifespan is reduced. Kong refers to the empty position in the six jia periods; if during the course of life it meets this, withInauspicious Sha added, it indicates death. Or if one star combines several killer stars, or two stars arrive together, and they are further affected by triple harmony and the four directions, death is certain. In spring and summer, and in autumn and winter, each has its flourishing time. If the stars fall in the states of rest, captivity, death, or decline, the good or bad outcomes are as certain as a shadow following a form or an echo responding to a sound. This is the golden诀窍. The above four sentences should be understood as a whole. All scholars who deeply contemplate them will find them more refined and subtle, and nothing fails to come true.

天之星辰苟求其故，可坐而知。地之神煞，欲究其微不言而喻。日月木火土金水為天星是也，陽刃、天雄、的煞、劫煞為地煞。陽刃子午卯酉，劫亡寅申巳亥、辰戌丑未四凶煞，巳酉丑上三白衣。子午卯酉四個最強之陽刃殺也，寅申巳亥四個亡神劫煞最是凶也，辰戌丑未獨居三殺連三位是也，巳酉丑三的殺又曰白衣，又曰破碎是也。申子辰生怕行巳午未限，寅午戌人忌行亥子丑位，亥卯未之申酉戌，巳酉丑之寅卯辰惡曜險甚薄命難禁。已上皆說三殺是也，人命根基淺薄，限行至此難逃，此大凶也。

The stars in the heavens, once their causes are understood, can be used to deduce matters; the divine calamities on earth, if their subtle aspects are thoroughly examined, can be clearly grasped without much discussion. The sun, the moon, and the five elements—wood, fire, earth, metal, and water—are referred to as the heavenly stars. "Yang Blade," "Tian Xiong," "De Sha," and "Jie Sha" are called the earthly calamities. "Yang Blade" appears in the positions of Zi, Wu, Mao, and You. "Jie Sha" and "Wang Shen" appear in the positions of Yin, Shen, Si, and Hai. Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei are the four evil positions. The positions of Si, You, and Chou have three instances of "Bai Yi." The positions of Zi, Wu, Mao, and You are the strongest positions for "Yang Blade" calamity. The positions of Yin, Shen, Si, and Hai contain "Wang Shen" and "Jie Sha," which are the most dangerous. Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei each individually contain three calamities, forming a trio. The "De Sha" in the positions of Si, You, and Chou are also called "Bai Yi" and "Pocai." Those born in the years of Shen, Zi, Chen are afraid of entering the limits of Si, Wu, and Wei. Those born in the years of Yin, Wu, Xu are afraid of entering the positions of Hai, Zi, and Chou. Those born in the years of Hai, Mao, Wei are afraid of entering the positions of Shen, You, and Xu. Those born in the years of Si, You, Chou are afraid of entering the positions of Yin, Mao, and Chen. When evil stars are at the forefront, the situation is extremely dangerous, and those with weak destinies cannot endure it. All the above refer to the three calamities. If a person's destiny foundation is shallow, encountering these positions in their life span will inevitably lead to disaster, which is a major omen of misfortune.

立命子宮限斗二，且看井七胃二張十四。命立子宮限行斗二，入寅為四角之宮，斗木難度難宮必然不好。若申上井七度，戌上胃二度，午上張十四度，有木星在此數度，或有木星正照斗二度內，重則必死，輕則刑剋，在申宮合來必克子，在午宮合來必克兄弟，此一定之理無疑，倘木難逢太陽必克父，近太陰必克母。

The natal palace is located in the Zi mansion, and when the limit reaches the second degree of the Dou mansion, one must also examine the seventh degree of the Jing mansion, the second degree of the Wei mansion, and the fourteenth degree of the Zhang mansion. When the natal palace is in Zi and the limit reaches the second degree of Dou, it enters the Yin mansion, which is one of the four corners. Since the Dou wood is difficult and the Yin mansion is a difficult palace, the situation is certainly unfavorable. If there is a planet of wood at the seventh degree of Jing in the Shen mansion, the second degree of Wei in the Xu mansion, or the fourteenth degree of Zhang in the Wu mansion, or if the planet of wood is directly facing the second degree of Dou, then severe cases will result in death, while lighter cases will involve punishment or conflict. If this difficult planet of wood comes from the Shen mansion, it will harm the children; if it comes from the Wu mansion, it will harm the brothers. This is a certain truth and there is no need to doubt it. If this troublesome planet of wood is close to the sun, it will harm the father; if it is close to the moon, it will harm the mother.

安命卯位行軫九必觀：女一、畢五與奎初難星倏忽來，壽算危乎此。又如命坐卯宮二十五行軫九水度乃入巳宮，可看亥上對照奎初，又看丑上女一度，皆不可有水孛來照，對度為難星得地之所，如此者死於二十五歲必矣。

A person whose destiny is in theMao Palace will, when reaching the ninth degree of theChariot mansion in their life cycle, need to check if there are sudden appearances of difficult stars at the first degree of theLegs mansion, the fifth degree of theNet mansion, and the first degree of theGirl mansion. If such stars appear, their lifespan is in danger at this point. For example, if a person's destiny is in the卯宫 and they reach the ninth degree of the轸宿 at the age of twenty-five, they will enter the巳宫. At this time, one should check the first degree of the奎宿 corresponding from the亥宫, and the first degree of the女宿 in the丑宫. These places must not have the stars 'Water Star' and 'Moon孛' shining upon them. The opposite degree is exactly where the difficult stars gain strength. If this situation occurs, they will certainly die at the age of twenty-five.

午命防未申之井，酉宮畏戌亥之奎。午宮立命未申轉角之間行限至此則凶，又井木是難度，若辰上氐初度丑上斗二度，子上危十一度，有木氣合吊大凶。酉宮坐命火羅為難，行限在戌難宮出戌交亥二十五年，三合四正難星又來必為凶斷，輕則傷刑。

Those born with their destiny in the Wu palace should be cautious of the Wei and Shen palaces, particularly the Well mansion between them. Those born in the You palace should fear the Xu and Hai palaces, especially the Legs mansion between them. When the destiny is in the Wu palace, the Wei and Shen palaces are turning points, and when the life path reaches these points, it becomes dangerous. Moreover, the Well mansion itself is difficult. If there is "Purple Qi" appearing at the氐 initial degree of the Chen palace, the Dou second degree of the Chou palace, and the Wei eleventh degree of the Zi palace, forming a triple harmony to illuminate, it will be a great disaster. For those born in the You palace, the "Fire Star" and "Ruo Hou" are considered difficult stars. When the life path reaches the Xu palace, which is the difficult palace, during the twenty-five years from Xu to Hai, if the difficult stars meet again at the triple harmony and four cardinal points, it will definitely be a disaster, and even the lighter cases may result in injuries or punishments.

四角命居雄哉奇偉，中州定位傑出魁罡。四角者，寅申巳亥也，主人雄偉敢為；中州者，辰戌丑未也，立命於此，英傑豪氣人矣。四個馬宮最怕老人不壽，八宮陽刃必然壯歲喪妻。寅申巳亥亡劫之地，老人行此恐傷其壽，少年人行此吉，子丑卯辰午未酉戌乃陽刃之宮，少年人行此必喪妻子，老人限臨必死。劫亡出入皆凶，陽刃兩頭切忌，限行實怕兩頭，入了何愁中位。劫殺亡神之宮限入限出皆主凶也，陽刃兩頭刃首刃尾皆凶禍也。

A person whose destiny is located in the four corners of the palace is bold, heroic, and outstanding; those whose destiny is in the central area are outstanding talents with a commanding presence. The four corners refer to the years of Yin, Shen, Si, and Hai, indicating a person who is strong and courageous. The central area refers to the years of Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, indicating people who are heroic and full of spirit. The fourThe Post-horse (post-horse) palaces are most feared when reached by the elderly, leading to a short lifespan; the eightThe Yang Blade (Yang Blade) palaces are sure to result in the loss of a wife in middle age. The years of Yin, Shen, Si, and Hai are the locations ofWangshen (Wangshen) andJiesha (Jiesha). Elderly people reaching these years may suffer from shortened life, but young people reaching them are auspicious. The years of Zi, Chou, Mao, Chen, Wu, Wei, You, and Xu are the locations ofThe Yang Blade (Yang Blade). Young people reaching these years will certainly lose their wives, but elderly people reaching them will surely die. The palaces ofJiesha (Jiesha) andWangshen (Wangshen) are both dangerous when entering and leaving; the two ends of theThe Yang Blade (Yang Blade) palaces are both ominous. The most feared aspect of the life span is reaching the two ends. Once one enters the palace, there is no need to worry. The palaces ofJiesha (Jiesha) andWangshen (Wangshen) are both dangerous when entering and leaving; the two ends of theThe Yang Blade (Yang Blade) are both misfortunes.

甲如入卯，尾二氐一定防災，乙若到辰，氐初軫十必為害，丙戊畏午張柳，庚怕畢五胃三。甲生人卯為陽刃，入尾二、出氐一，必有災；乙生人辰為陰刃，入氐初、出軫十，必為災；丙戊生人午為陽刃，入張十四、出柳四，必有凶；庚生人酉為陽刃，入畢五、出胃三，必刑剋疾厄。

Those born in the year of Jia enter theMao Palace, advancing from the second degree of the Tail mansion to the first degree of the Root mansion, and must beware of disasters. Those born in the year of Yi enter theChen Palace, advancing from the first degree of the Root mansion to the tenth degree of the Chariot mansion, and will certainly suffer harm. Those born in the years of Bing and Wu fear the Zhang and Willow mansions in theWu Palace. Those born in the year of Geng fear the fifth degree of the Net mansion and the third degree of the Stomach mansion. This is because: those born in the year of Jia take卯as the "Yang Blade," entering the second degree of the Tail mansion and exiting the first degree of the Root mansion, which inevitably brings disaster. Those born in the year of Yi take辰as the "Yin Blade," entering the first degree of the Root mansion and exiting the tenth degree of the Chariot mansion, which inevitably brings disaster. Those born in the years of Bing and Wu take午as the Yang Blade, entering the fourteenth degree of the Zhang mansion and exiting the fourth degree of the Willow mansion, which inevitably brings misfortune. Those born in the year of Geng take酉as the Yang Blade, entering the fifth degree of the Net mansion and exiting the third degree of the Stomach mansion, which inevitably leads to punishment and illness.

妻在孤神寡宿到老喪妻，子居陽刃劫亡晚年無子。孤神寡宿在妻宮必克妻也，陽刃劫亡臨子位必克兒女也。別夫離婦陽刃殺中逢孛，剝官喪職空亡限內遇計，孛星逢陽刃同宮合，主夫克妻、妻剋夫，生離死別未免也。計都行限更兼空亡，限行至此為官罷職。

The wife's palace is occupied by "Gu Shen" and "Gu Su," indicating that one will lose his wife in old age; the children's palace is occupied by "Yang Ren," "Jie Sha," and "Wang Shen," meaning that one will have no sons in his later years. If "Gu Shen" and "Gu Su" are in the wife's palace, they will certainly harm the wife; if "Yang Ren," "Jie Sha," and "Wang Shen" are in the children's palace, they will certainly harm the children. If husband and wife part ways, it is because "Yang Ren" is combined with "Yue Bo"; if one loses his position, it is because "Kong Wang" is combined with "Ji Du." When "Yue Bo" and "Yang Ren" are in the same palace, it indicates that the husband will harm the wife and the wife will harm the husband, and separation, whether living or dying, is inevitable. If "Ji Du" is in the limit and combined with "Kong Wang," then when the limit reaches this point, an official will be dismissed from his post.

金孛插花女人色慾，土羅持刃男子兇頑。金孛插桃花、土羅持陽刃合此者女主色慾、男主兇頑。嘍囉詭譎千般花，宮帶孛聰敏機關，百變刃上計逢。孛坐咸池、計逢陽刃合此者男主嘍囉詭譎，女主機關百變。

The stars "Jinxing" and "Yuebo" placed in the Taohua position indicate that women are prone to desire; the stars "Tuxing" and "Luohou" controlling the Yang Blade position suggest that men are fierce and stubborn. When "Jinxing" and "Yuebo" are placed in the Taohua palace, and "Tuxing" and "Luohou" occupy the Yang Blade position, women tend to have strong sexual desires, while men are inclined to be fierce and stubborn. Deceitful and cunning, with many schemes, is when the palace is accompanied by "Yuebo." Clever and full of schemes, with many changes, is when the Yang Blade position meets "Jidu." When "Yuebo" is in the Xianchi palace and "Jidu" meets the Yang Blade, men tend to be deceitful and cunning, while women tend to be full of schemes and changes.

壟斷牙行身居天雄，刺胥吏卒命坐破軍。安身立命於天雄上，媒人牙行之輩也。破軍即的殺破碎是也，坐命此宮主刺配之凶。卯刃帶金病癆傷壽，亡神逢孛溺水喪身。卯宮屬火又是刃宮，金星同位必癆病人也。亡神宮見水孛必溺水而亡也。

Those who control the market and operate pawnshops have their body palace sitting on "Tian Xiong"; those who are forced to serve as penal laborers or officials and assistants have their destiny palace sitting on "Po Jun". If the body palace and destiny palace are located on "Tian Xiong", they are people who act as matchmakers or operate pawnshops. "Po Jun" represents "the evil star" and "fragmentation", and having it in the destiny palace indicates a fate of being exiled or punished. If theMao Palace (Mao Palace) blade is combined with "Jin Xing" (Golden Star), it indicates a person suffering from tuberculosis and losing their life; if the "Wang Shen" (Wandering God) palace meets "Yue Bo" (Moon孛), it indicates drowning and death. TheMao Palace (Mao Palace) belongs to fire and is also a blade palace; when "Jin Xing" (Golden Star) is in the same position, it definitely indicates a person with tuberculosis. If the palace of "Wang Shen" (Wandering God) meets "Shui Xing" (Water Star) and "Yue Bo" (Moon孛), it definitely indicates death by drowning.

劫殺在於寅宮金來虎咬，亡神到於已上土會蛇傷，劫殺在寅宮屬虎金，難來必虎咬人也，亡神在巳宮屬蛇土，難來主蛇傷也。祿馬空亡任是豪家必莩，劫亡帶鬼縱他貴顯遭刑。祿馬空亡限入此地，縱富必莩死也，劫亡上有難星，雖貴人亦惡死也。

Jiesha falling in theYin Palace, encountering the Metal Star will result in being bitten by a tiger; Wangshen arriving in theSi Palace (the original text says '已', which is a mistake for '巳'), encountering the Earth Star will result in being harmed by a snake. TheYin Palace belongs to the tiger, and Jiesha here with the Metal Star, which is a difficult star, will certainly lead to being bitten by a tiger; theSi Palace belongs to the snake, and Wangshen here with the Earth Star, which is a difficult star, will result in being harmed by a snake. The禄 Star and theThe Post-horse falling into the Kongwang will lead to starvation even for a wealthy family; Jiesha and Wangshen accompanied by difficult stars will result in punishment even for those in high positions. If the limit enters this place with禄马 and Kongwang, even if rich, starvation is inevitable; if Jiesha and Wangshen have difficult stars, even with a nobleman, an evil death is unavoidable.

早歲功名空亡同於劫殺，老年富壽正祿入於旺宮。少年發於帝旺之鄉，老景榮於衰庫之地。劫殺逢空、祿臨旺地，少年行旺、老景行墓、其吉可知矣。精微一理、變化千般、淺薄休傳、知音可得、能依此斷萬無一失。

A young person who achieves success early in life has the "Kongwang" and "Jiesha" in the same position; in old age, wealth, abundance, and longevity come from the "Zheng Lu" entering the Prosperity palace. Youthful success occurs in the Prosperity place, while the later years flourish in the Decaying Storage place. When "Jiesha" meets "Kongwang" and the "Lu Star" is in the旺 place, the youth enjoys a flourishing fortune and the later years are in the Storage place. The auspiciousness of such a situation is evident. The principles here are subtle and profound, yet the changes are countless. Those with shallow understanding should not be taught, but only those who are truly knowledgeable can be instructed. If one follows these principles for divination, there will be no mistakes at all.

大凡洞微所急者限主星也，所貴者祿星也，所重者諸曜順行也，所發者廟宮也，所畏者忌星也，所好者吉神也，所輔者行年也，所助者三方也，所惡者氣孛羅計也，如善星陷逆則福慢，順行則福緊。凶星陷逆則災緊，順行則災慢。

In general, when applying the methods of the "Dongwei" system, the most important factor is the main star, the most valuable is the禄 star, the most valued is the movement of all stars in a forward direction, the most beneficial for success is when the stars are in their proper palace, the most feared is the forbidden star, the most preferred is the auspicious deity, the most helpful is the flow of the current year, the most supportive is when three directions align, and the most disliked are the four additional stars: "Zi Qi", "Yue Bo", "Luou Zhou", and "Ji Du". If auspicious and good stars fall into an unfavorable palace and move backward, their blessings will come slowly; if they move forward, their blessings will come quickly. If evil and malevolent stars fall into an unfavorable palace and move backward, misfortunes will occur quickly; if they move forward, misfortunes will come slowly.

如遇吉星順行即得本宮加數，若遇惡星他宮則其數減半。大凡吉星居七強為福緊，臨五弱為福慢，災星在強宮為災慢，五弱為災緊。凡限本宮見星災福應十分，對照七分、三合四分，凡限星在終末之度，即災福之力則微，而不可以定數言也。

If a beneficial star moves in a favorable direction, the number of years it governs is increased accordingly. If an evil star falls into another palace, the number of years is halved. Generally, when a good star is in the "seven strong" position, its blessings arrive quickly; when it is in the "five weak" position, its blessings arrive slowly. When an evil star is in a strong palace, its calamity occurs slowly; when it is in the "five weak" position, its calamity occurs quickly. If a star in the limit is directly in its native palace, the effects of its blessings or calamities are fully realized. If it is opposite in the opposing palace, the effects are seven parts. If it is in the three surrounding palaces, the effects are four parts. When a star in the limit has reached the last degree of its palace, its power to cause calamity or grant blessings becomes weak and cannot be measured by fixed proportions.

凡忌星在好樂宮入限，三年內為福。三年後反為災，大凡限逢忌星不死亦災，若火在陰宮、土在陽宮、或為三方主雖有厄而不亡。故曰：夜忌土星，晝忌火，三方不是死無疑。此星若是三方主，雖有災侵命不離。火陰土陽宮尤妙，好樂位中別有奇正，此謂也。

If a disliked star falls in a favorable position and is active during the period, it can bring good fortune in the first three years, but after that it turns into a disaster. Generally, if a disliked star appears in the limit, one will not die but will suffer some misfortune. However, if the 'Fire Star' is in a yin palace or the 'Earth Star' is in a yang palace, or if the star itself is the master of the three directions, then even though there may be difficulties, one will not die. Therefore, people born at night are afraid of the Earth Star, and those born during the day are afraid of the Fire Star. If this star is not the master of the three directions, then death is certain. But if this star is indeed the master of the three directions, even though there are calamities, one's life will not be lost. The Fire Star entering a yin palace and the Earth Star entering a yang palace is even more skillful. The saying 'good and pleasant positions contain both odd and even' refers to this.

凡災忌星生時在伏段限內。災禍只有三四分力，福星生時在伏段亦只有三四分力，蓋被太陽所伏光芒不見，有如臣居君側包藏光美之象。凡一限中見吉凶星同聚，即以入宮先後及逆順而斷吉凶，故先入宮深者先見，後入宮淺者後逢也。

All ominous stars that cause calamities, if they are in the "hidden" phase at the time of a person's birth and also appear in their life span limit, their harmful effects will only be about three or four parts. Similarly, if a fortunate star is in the hidden phase at birth and also appears in the life span limit, its blessings will also only be about three or four parts. This is because they are concealed by the brightness of the sun, their radiance is not visible, just like a minister standing beside the king, who can only conceal his own brilliance. When both auspicious and ominous stars appear in the same life span limit, their effects should be judged according to the order in which they enter the palace and the depth or shallowness of their movement: the one that enters first and moves more deeply will take effect first, while the one that enters later and moves less deeply will take effect later.

凡遇本限及對照三合併不見一星，名曰空限，主多災凶、圖事不成，若得限主當生有力之位，則反為吉，惟有官祿宮上逢空限最凶，必於四十六七歲死矣。凡當生吉星照身命者，主中年富貴，縱逢災限不妨。若當生凶星照身命者，中年雖逢福限四旬之後，亦主迍滯，大都吉凶之應全藉限基當生有祿則吉，限上無祿則難發，是猶無根之木，雖逢春終不葩花而成實也。故經云：若無一曜臨身命，自是賢愚別有因。

Whenever a person reaches their native limit, if there is no star seen in the native limit, its opposite palace, or the three surrounding palaces, it is called an empty limit, which brings many calamities and failed endeavors. If the native limit happens to fall on a strong position in the original birth chart, it turns favorable. However, an empty limit in the official position is the most dangerous, and the person is likely to die around the age of forty-six or forty-seven. Those born with auspicious stars shining on their body palace and命宫 are destined for wealth and honor in middle age, even if they encounter bad limits later. But those born with malevolent stars shining on their body and命宫 will face difficulties and stagnation after the age of forty, even if they encounter good limits in middle age. Generally, the success or failure depends on the foundation of the limit: if the original birth chart has a fortune, it is favorable; if the limit lacks fortune, it is hard to achieve success, just like a tree without roots, which may encounter spring but will never bloom or bear fruit. Therefore, the classic says: if there is no star shining on the body palace and命宫, then the difference between a wise and foolish person must be due to other reasons.
