Charting guides: Da Liu Ren Chart Calculator, Jin Kou Jue Chart

The divination pattern is called "Bie Ze" — when the four lessons are incomplete, and there is no mutual overcoming between upper and lower elements, one must seek another deity to serve as the main element; since the four lessons are not fully present, it is also called "Bu Bei" (incomplete); and because the stems and branches are mixed with yin and yang, and the male and female elements are not properly aligned, it is also called "Wu Yin" (disorderly and licentious). The meaning of the divination says: the day stem actively seeks the day branch to obtain wealth, but the place where it seeks is accompanied by "Pohu" (a凶煞, indicating fragmentation and damage), and also meets "Xun Kong" (the two zodiac signs missing in the current ten-day cycle, which are named but not present). Both these deficiencies appear together; such a continuous lack of three levels results in wealth never being obtained, and only leads to a fruitless effort and a restless heart.

The day stem is Ding, and its lodging palace is in Wei. The day branch is You metal, which is the wealth hexagram for Ding day. Wei is added on top of You, indicating that the day stem actively approaches the day branch to obtain that wealth. However, the first transmission is Chou earth, which leaks the energy of the day stem. The middle and final transmissions are the same as the heavenly stem above the day stem, which brings both brokenness and emptiness, two evils coming together. On top of that, it is occupied by 'Tian Kong' (one of the twelve heavenly generals, indicating falsehood and unreliability). The combination of emptiness, brokenness, and Tian Kong forms three layers of false images, so the wealth does not actually come about, and in the end, it is just a waste of thought.

Another lesson is self-deficient and of no use, meaning that in all matters one must rely on others and take indirect paths. It is also called "incomplete," indicating that the four lessons are incomplete, and the matter being divined will inevitably have some imperfection or lack of completeness. The巳 and 丑 triple harmonize to form the three transmissions, causing the matter to be entangled and delayed, unable to be concluded clearly. It is also called "wuhun," resembling a situation where men and women quarrel with each other but seek out others for improper relations, showing a lack of devotion. If used to divinate the household, there will be some improper behavior within the family.

Divination for weather: The Tiangang points to a yin position, and all the deities belong to fire and earth, indicating clear skies without rain. Divination for the household: The lesson pattern is called Wuyin, suggesting that the family should be especially cautious within the household; the first transmission is the earth branch Chou which drains the day stem and nourishes the day branch, indicating a small person and a large house. Divination for official rank: Neither the nobleman nor the official deity appears, making it difficult to attain official position. Divination for wealth: Existing wealth remains, but no external wealth comes in. Divination for marriage: Wuyin combined with lack of completeness is most unfavorable for marriage. Divination for pregnancy: All the transmissions are yin deities, indicating a female fetus; the lesson pattern also belongs to a different responsibility, suggesting a delayed pregnancy. Divination for illness: The illness is mostly due to food injury and vomiting, or due to qi deficiency and downward collapse, and if the relief deity is worshipped, it will be favorable. Divination for travel: The person has a desire to stay home, so the journey will be delayed. Divination for a traveler: The Tiangang is on the four central positions of Zi, Wu, Mao, and You, indicating the person is still on the way. Divination for warfare: It is favorable for the main side but not for the opposing side, and extra caution is still needed.

The "Bifa Fu" says, "If the three transmissions do not form a continuous flow, examine the first transmission and the time of divination carefully; if the heavenly stems and earthly branches mutually generate and both the upper and lower parts generate, then all matters will benefit." In the "Liu Ren Zhi Nan," there is an example: on Dingchou year, the twelfth lunar month, using the丑 general and starting the divination at卯 time, the sky was dark and there was fresh snow. The diviner predicted that the sun would definitely appear the next day. The fire of巳 (the sun) was the initiating transmission, and the upper part was "Zhu Que" (one of the twelve heavenly generals, belonging to the southern fire, governing documents and speech). This was the essence of southern fire. The four lessons were all yin spirits; when yin reaches its extreme, yang naturally arises, so it would definitely clear up. He also predicted that there would be a storm on the day of Geng at the time of Wei. The酉 represents wind and the Wei represents the wind god; when they meet, wind arises. Additionally, the day stem of Ding has its wealth in the酉, which is the White Tiger, and there is a mutual attack between upper and lower parts. Later, the prediction was verified.

On the Dingyou day, the fourth arrangement: the stem is on the Chén position.

The structure is called "Yuan Shou" — among the four lessons, there is only one instance where the upper branch overpowers the lower one, and this is taken as the initiating transmission, like the sovereign ruling over his subjects, which is the most proper structure in Six Rats divination. The three transmissions contain the signs of a carriage and horse with Huagai, so it is also called "Xuange"; within the three transmissions, there is Taichong (Mao) and Shenhou (Zi), which interact with the day branch causing punishment and harm, hence it is also called "Sanjiao". The meaning of the structure says: the heavenly stems and earthly branches pair up with each other, intersecting and harmonizing. The first transmission is the fire sign of Wu, which is the禄神 (lucky god) of the day stem Ding. Unfortunately, in the daytime, the禄神 is occupied by the White Tiger, and at night, it is occupied by the Black Tortoise. Seeing the White Tiger indicates misfortune, and seeing the Black Tortoise indicates loss, so it is not a favorable structure. Therefore, it is advised not to cast another divination.

The day branch is午 and forms aLiu He with the day stem's 未. The day stem's 辰 also forms aLiu He with the day branch's 酉. This mutualLiu He indicates a very harmonious situation. The first transmission is 午 fire, which is the禄 of 丁 day. However, if it is divined during the day, it is乘White Tiger, and if at night, it is乘Black Tortoise. Riding the White Tiger brings凶伤, while riding the Black Tortoise brings loss and misfortune. Although the three transmissions are 午 generating卯,卯 generating子, forming a successive generation, the middle transmission卯 and the final transmission子 are in conflict with the子卯Punishment of Impropriety. The originally auspicious high cover and noble appearance is transformed into an unfavorable three-way connection. Therefore, this divination does not need to be pursued further.

The lesson is called "Xuangua," which symbolizes a carriage with a canopy, indicating a favorable omen for those seeking official positions. However, the official star (Lushen) is located in the day branch rather than the day stem, suggesting that the person is likely to hold a deputy or secondary position. Moreover, both the day stem and day branch are afflicted by mutual conflicts, and the Lushen, which is the fire of Wu, actually harms the day branch. Additionally, the main star of silence, the卯 (Mao) star, is present above, so one must be cautious in all matters, especially in keeping quiet and avoiding excessive speech.

Divination for weather: "Qinglong" (one of the Twelve Heavenly Generals, belonging to the Wood element and governing rain) rises on the Heaven Plate, and the Tiangang points to the Yin position, indicating rain. Divination for the household: during the day, the White Tiger harms the house, indicating misfortune; at night, the Yuanwu injures wealth, leading to theft. Divination for official rank: although the lesson pattern is good, the禄神 (official star) is riding aInauspicious General (malevolent general), making it not entirely favorable. Divination for seeking wealth: one's own wealth is hard to retain, and external wealth is even more dangerous. Divination for marriage: the heavenly stem and earthly branch mutually harm each other, indicating an unfavorable marriage. Divination for pregnancy: the upper is strong and the lower is weak, suggesting a female fetus; theFetal Spirit (fetus star) conflicts with the母神 (mother star), indicating a quick delivery. Divination for illness: the illness is in the lung meridian, or it is a deficiency of heart blood. Divination for travel: during the day, traveling by land is somewhat favorable, but traveling by water is not advisable. Divination for a traveler: the Tiangang is added to the positions of the four seasons, Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, indicating that the traveler will arrive immediately. Divination for warfare: during the day, it is unfavorable; at night, it is also not favorable.

The "Bifa Fu" says "The authority is not properly held, the official's fortune falls on the day branch, the position is merely a proxy, and the title is not correct; when encountering a closed mouth chart, the fortune and misfortune should be considered from two different perspectives." The "Ke Jing" states that when Wu is added to You, it is an upper overcoming lower situation and the initiating transmission is taken from it; if the three transmissions include Taichong Mao and Shenhou Zi, it forms a three-way transmission chart, indicating the concealment of criminals and secret affairs within the family. The "Zhou Hou Jing" says that following the order from mother to son is considered proper, while going in reverse from son to mother is considered improper; following the order leads to harmony, while reversing leads to suspicion, which is the true method of examining the flow of the three transmissions. The "Yucheng Ge" states that the fortune and misfortune of a three-way transmission chart depend entirely on the situation within one's own household.

Dingyou day, fifth arrangement, the stem is on Mao.

The three transmissions are Si, You, and Chou, forming a triple harmony of metal, thus creating a metal formation. The Book of Documents, Hongfan, refers to metal as "from revolution," hence the name "From Revolution." Among the four lessons, there is only one instance where the upper element overcomes the lower one, and this is used as the initiating transmission, still belonging to the original main lesson. The meaning of the lesson states: broken andInauspicious Sha are together placed on the day branch representing the residence, indicating that the family's existing wealth has been exhausted. Fortunately, the three transmissions form a metal formation, which is exactly the wealth formation for a Ding day. Since it is a night divination, the heavenly general is entirely composed of earth deities that generate metal, thus receiving support, and wealth is restored again.

The巳 is already in the empty position of the ten-day cycle and is accompanied by theInauspicious Sha of fragmentation and destruction. It is positioned on the day branch representing the residence and is also capable of overcoming the day branch to become the first transmission. Therefore, the family's wealth cannot but be lost and wasted. Fortunately, the three transmissions of巳, 酉, and 丑 form a triple harmony of metal, creating a wealth pattern for the day of 丁. Since the time of the divination is at night, the heavenly generals accompanying the three transmissions are all earth deities. Earth supports metal by generating it, thus reviving the wealth in the transmissions. As a result, a prosperous appearance is presented.

The lesson is called "From Reform," taking the meaning of metal's ability to change and transform the form and substance, symbolizing the image of removing the old and establishing the new. The matter being divined certainly involves change, with many complicated threads. The final transmission, which is the earth ox, clashes and controls the day stem's卯wood. In Six Rats,卯is associated with both documents and parents; ancient people said that if all three transmissions are wealth hexagrams, one should worry about the parents, exactly referring to this situation—when wealth hexagrams are too strong, they will inevitably harm the parents, and matters concerning documents will also face obstacles.

Divination for weather: The metal element indicates rain, but the initiating transmission falls into the empty position, which instead indicates clearing weather. Divination for the household: The house is accompanied by brokenness, indicating possible damage to the house; the empty position of the fire element also harms the day branch, so be cautious of losses from siblings. Divination for official rank: The official star is accompanied by virtue and the post-horse, both falling in the second lesson, and the three transmissions are in successive generation, with the official element returning to the day stem's document god, which is favorable for official career. Divination for marriage: The elements on the stem and branch mutually generate, indicating a favorable marriage, but theLiu He god is in the empty position, so the matter may not succeed. Divination for pregnancy: The god on the day stem is yin, indicating a female fetus; the triple harmony ending with the initiating transmission suggests difficulty in childbirth. Divination for illness: The illness is in the heart meridian, and the new illness will recover immediately. Divination for travel: The god on the day stem generates the god on the day branch, indicating the journey will definitely take place. Divination for a missing person: Night divination shows the Vermilion Bird riding the post-horse, conflicting with the巳 on the house, indicating a letter will arrive. Divination for battle: The day stem overcomes the day branch, indicating victory for our side and defeat for the enemy. Divination for burial: The day branch is accompanied by brokenness, indicating possible voids in the grave site.

The "Bifa Fu" says, "Six lines of the hexagram should be cautious of being harmed by the overcoming element; within the六合, if there is a凶煞, it is like砒霜 mixed in honey, sweet but poisonous." When all six lines of the hexagram appear, one should be cautious of harm from the overcoming element. Within theLiu He, if there is aInauspicious Sha, it is like砒霜 mixed in honey, sweet but poisonous. The "Dami Yuzhuan" says that if all three transmissions are the wealth lines of the day stem, one should worry about misfortune to the elders, and when wealth is strong, it will surely overcome the parents. The "Xinyin Fu" says that if the triple harmony is placed upon the day stem, one should consider both the heavenly and earthly stems together. If one is divining about joyous events or marriage, this structure is most suitable and one can expect good news. The "Zhipang Fu" says that if the heavenly nobleman meets the white tiger, there will be many diseases in the family.

On the Dingyou day, sixth arrangement, the stem is on Yin.

Among the four lessons, there is only one instance where the lower overcomes the upper, and this is taken as the initiating transmission. Its momentum is not as direct as the main transmission, so it requires careful consideration, hence the name "Rechecking." The Tiangang (Chen) is placed on top of the day branch, like cutting through a gate to escape, hence the name "Cutting the Gate." The meaning of the lesson says: once the cutting gate is formed, a person who flees will not return. The day stem and day branch each carry life qi, indicating that both the host and guest sides are abundant. However, when the nobleman is in the prison area and also meets the void during the day, it is not advisable to seek an audience with the powerful.

The Tiangang (Chen) falls on the day branch, which is called cutting the gate. When Chen is placed on You and thus gains the metal energy, it is cutting the gate and also acquiring the power of cutting and deciding. In the Six Rats system, You also represents private doors and secret paths, so a person who flees will not return. The day stem and the day branch each carry the life qi, indicating that both the self and the other party are prosperous. However, when the time of day divination is during the day, the heavenly nobleman is in the prison position and also falls into the empty period, so where is it appropriate to go and seek an audience?

The review lesson arises from the lower overcoming the upper, indicating that matters are mostly initiated from within. The heavenly stem on the day stem is generating the day stem, and the earthly branch on the day branch is generating the day branch; this is called the mutual generation pattern, which is most suitable for joint business ventures between two parties. The initiating transmission is the day virtue god, and it is exactly at the long life position of the day stem's寅 wood. Although it is located in the kongwang, it is riding the post-horse and thus is about to move; once it moves, it can no longer be considered as kongwang. However, the午 is both the post-horse and the flourishing and禄 position. In the daytime, it is riding the white tiger, the亥 water is overcoming it, the yang ren is harming it, and it is entering the绝 position, so in terms of the禄 alone, it is very unsuitable.

Divination for weather: There will be no rain. Divination for the household: AInauspicious Spirit (Tiangang) appears above the house, and if divined at night it also brings the White Tiger, which is unfavorable for the household. Divination for seeking wealth: If the Azure Dragon is present at the gate in the daytime, or on the day stem at night, wealth will certainly be obtained. Divination for marriage: The day stem overcomes the day branch, and the god on the day branch falls into Kongwang, making the marriage difficult to succeed, and even if it is forced to happen, it will not last until old age. Divination for pregnancy: The fetus is female, and there is a risk of difficult childbirth. Divination for illness: The earth element on the day branch and the initial transmission's day ghost both fall into Kongwang, so the illness can be cured soon. Divination for a traveler: The traveler will not return. Divination for capturing thieves: If the day stem can control the Black Tortoise in the daytime, thieves are easy to catch. Divination for battle: Our side will win, and the enemy will be defeated.

The "Bifa Fu" says, "If mutual generation occurs between the heavenly stems and earthly branches, all matters will benefit." The "Liu Ren Zhi Nan" records a case: someone used a hexagram with戌 (Xu) over 卯 (Mao) to inquire about a promotion. The diviner predicted that not only would the promotion not happen, but he would actually be demoted. This was because the post-horse was in the墓 (mù) position on that day, and the禄神 (lu shen) was in the绝 (jue) position. Moreover, the three transmissions and heavenly generals were moving in reverse, the official star and nobleman on the day stem were caught in the 天罗 (tian luo), and the "Teng Snake" (one of the twelve heavenly generals, associated with fear and strange occurrences) on the year stem transformed into the ghost of the day stem. In summer, there would be a disturbance. Fortunately, the official ghost and ghost were in the Kongwang (kong wang) position, so even if he lost his position, there would not be a great disaster. Later, the person indeed was impeached and voluntarily resigned. Another official who had a similar hexagram also suffered arrest and interrogation. The "Yucheng Ge" says that where the virtue god is active, auspiciousness follows; but once it is harmed or punished, it turns from auspicious to dangerous.

Dingyou day, seventh arrangement, stem on Chou

The heavenly stems are positioned opposite the earthly branches on the earth plate, moving back and forth, hence called "Reverse Chant"; the four lessons are in mutual opposition without support, hence called "Without Support"; the卯 and酉 combine, with yin and yang conflicting, taking the meaning from the "Kun Hexagram" in The Zhou Changes where dragons fight in the wild, hence called "Dragon Battle"; the heavenly stems and earthly branches control each other, and it is only suitable to defend oneself, hence still retaining the name "Uphold Virtue." The meaning of the lesson says: in the four lessons and three transmissions, everywhere there are noblemen, everywhere there are wealth lines, everywhere there is the spirit of the ding, moving continuously; the卯 and酉 are the gate gods, and the matters planned will not go beyond the family door; although the ding spirit moves, it moves in a place of decline, which is the image of returning home, so those who go out will return immediately.

In the case of酉 on a day of 丁, it represents the nobleman of the night. Both the four lessons and the three transmissions contain it repeatedly. At the same time,酉 is also the wealth hexagram and the 丁 deity of the current ten-day period for 丁 day. This repeated addition causes the matter to continue without end. In the Six Rats system,卯 and 酉 represent the gate and the house. The three transmissions keep repeating only the characters 卯 and 酉, so the matter concerned does not go beyond the family gate. Although the 丁 deity is active, it only moves around on the绝 position, moving but having nowhere to go, which is the image of turning back home. Therefore, those who are going out will arrive immediately.

This type of divination is called "no support" or "three intersections," also known as "mutual opposition." In such a case, matters will inevitably be complicated and changeable, and there will be unrest within families or households. The卯 (Mao) is usually the source of life qi for the day stem and day branch, but it is attacked by酉 (You) metal, causing a situation where neither progress nor retreat is possible, leading to a dilemma. The "Tai Chang" (one of the twelve heavenly generals, governing banquets, clothing, food, and wealth) is in conflict with the deity it rides upon, which is called internal warfare, indicating disputes arising from food, drink, or money.

Divination for weather: The lesson pattern is reverse chant, with water and fire exchanging positions, resulting in clear skies followed by rain and rain followed by clear skies. Divination for the household: The heavenly stem and earthly branch above and below clash and control each other, indicating that both people and the house are lacking in peace. Divination for official rank: The nobleman is riding on the Ding spirit, indicating extreme movement and speed, so the official position may not be held for the full term. Divination for seeking wealth: Daytime divination indicates gaining wealth through documents, while nighttime divination indicates gaining wealth through the nobleman. Divination for marriage: The situation is unstable and uncertain, making it difficult to achieve a harmonious union. Divination for pregnancy: The upper is weak and the lower is strong, indicating a female fetus; the heavenly stem and earthly branch spirits mutually generate, indicating a favorable outcome for childbirth. Divination for illness: There is much wind evil in the chest and ribs, or injury to the large or small intestine, and the illness cannot be cured quickly. Divination for travel: Traveling by water is favorable, while traveling by land is less advantageous. Divination for a traveler: The Tiangang is placed on the position of the four seasons, indicating that the traveler will arrive immediately. Divination for warfare: The outcome is mixed, with equal parts good and bad, so careful action will naturally lead to good results.

The "Bifa Fu" says, "If the heavenly stems and earthly branches mutually generate, it is beneficial for all matters, but if there is a layer of separation above another layer of separation, one should be cautious of deceit." The "Ke Jing" points out that the earthly branch "Chou" on the day stem generates the day branch "Jin" (metal), but it is also the storage place of the day branch; the earthly branch "Mao" on the day branch generates the day stem "Huoyan" (fire), but it is also the place of decline for the day stem. Thus, although there is the name of generation and strength, in reality there is much decline and weakness. The "Zuanyao" states that the earthly branch "Chou" on the day stem already drains the energy of the day stem, and if it is occupied by Tai Yin during the day, the heavenly general further drains the energy of the upper deity. In all such cases, there is a tendency towards falsehood and unreliability, and one should also be cautious of loss. The "Ke Ti" says that on a Dingyou day, the reverse chant lesson is formed with "Mao" added to "You" as the initiating transmission, and this is also known as the "Zhuo Lun" lesson.

Dingyou day, eighth arrangement, dry branch over Zi

The four lessons have mutual control between upper and lower parts in more than one place; one must compare the depth of each deity's involvement in causing harm and select the one suffering the most severe damage to initiate the transmission, hence it is called "involved in harm." Because it involves facing dangers and overcoming difficulties, it is also called "passing through hardship." The meaning of the lesson states: the three transmissions proceed from below to above, indicating internal conflict, so the matter being divined must involve a quarrel within the family or conflict among relatives. Additionally, if broken andInauspicious Sha (evil stars) and the empty period (旬空) fall in the same position, wealth will certainly be lost.

The three transmissions are all instances of something below overcoming something above, which is called internal conflict. The initial transmission starts with the寅 wood in the day branch overcoming the未 earth, and this becomes the initiating transmission. It then turns around to overcome the子 water and harms the day stem, indicating internal family strife spreading outside. Looking at the three transmissions from the first to the final, the final transmission is巳 fire, which overcomes the酉 metal in the day branch and falls on the empty heaven and broken condition. On top of that, it is occupied by the sky ghost. The loss of wealth is evident. The reason is that巳 is originally the place of growth for metal, but now the place of growth has become a site of overcoming.

The divination indicates that the afflicted person is being harmed by those above them, suggesting that the younger generation is mistreating the elders, bringing ill fortune to the family. There is also discord among family members. Moreover, the water element (子) clearly represents the official ghost of the day stem (丁), and the hidden stem in寅 also contains another ghost, resulting in both visible and hidden ghosts harming the day stem. This creates difficult troubles that are hard to resolve. However, if the day stem and the initiating transmission are both in a prosperous and strong state, and are supported by a favorable general, then the interpretation is reversed, indicating that the elders gain strength from the younger generation, which is a good omen of mutual support and harmony.

Divination for weather: The water deity is active above, and the Tiangang points to the yin position, so rain is natural. Divination for the household: The day stem is itself being overcome, and it is most inauspicious to use it for questioning about parents. Divination for official rank: The official star is above the day stem, and if divined at night with the Azure Dragon supporting the day stem and harmonizing with it, there is hope for official position. Divination for wealth: One's own wealth can be obtained, but external wealth is difficult to acquire. Divination for marriage: The man benefits from the woman, and if divined at night, it can lead to success. Divination for pregnancy: The lower is strong and the upper is weak, so the fetus is likely female. Divination for illness: The heart channel is injured, or there is illness in the liver,胆, and spleen, and it will soon heal naturally. Divination for travel: Traveling by water at night is auspicious, but traveling by water or land during the day is unfavorable. Divination for a missing person: The Tiangang is in the four beginning positions, so the person has not yet departed. Divination for warfare: It has a beginning but no end, and there is no visible advantage. Divination for burial: The Azure Dragon's position has some defects, but it can still promote the growth of descendants.

The "Bifa Fu" says, "When two Teng Snakes surround the墓神, misfortune is inevitable; when the three transmissions successively overcome each other, one is constantly humiliated by others." When theTomb Spirit is trapped between two Teng Snakes, misfortune is unavoidable; when the three transmissions are in a state of successive overcoming, one is constantly oppressed by others. The "Ke Jing" explains: when the戌 is placed over the巳, the heavenly generals during day and night both ride the Teng Snake, and the巳 position on the earth plate itself is also the position of the Teng Snake, which is called two Teng Snakes surrounding theTomb Spirit; when used to predict illness, there must be a mass inside the abdomen, leading to an incurable condition. The "Zuanyao" says that if the personal destiny or the current year's position falls on the寅, the未 earth will use the strength of the寅 wood to resist the子 water, which is called fox borrowing the tiger's might; the support is not from one's own strength, so one must be cautious and avoid rash actions or plans.

On Dingyou day, the ninth arrangement: the heavenly stem is on Hai.

The four lessons contain only one instance where the upper element overcomes the lower one, and this is taken as the initiating transmission, which remains the original main lesson. The three transmissions form the triple harmony of wood, with Hai, Mao, and Wei combining to create a wood trinity. The Book of Documents, Hongfan, refers to wood as "curving and straight," hence the name "Curving and Straight." The meaning of the lesson states: the water in Hai on the day stem injures itself, while the earth in Chou acts as the burial place of the day branch and suppresses the dwelling. Both the day and night noblemen are restrained and thus unreliable. The heavenly general during the day is purely earth, secretly stealing the energy of the day stem. Fortunately, the three transmissions form a wood trinity returning to support the day stem, which is sufficient to control these thieves of energy.

Hai water is harming the day stem, and Chou earth, being the storage of the day branch, is pressing down on the residence. The nobleman of the night is being overcome by Si fire, and the nobleman of the day is being overcome by Wei earth, so neither of the noblemen can be relied upon. The heavenly generals of the day are all earth, which drains the energy of Ding fire, effectively stealing the vital energy of the day stem secretly. Fortunately, the three transmissions of Hai, Mao, and Wei form a wood trinity, supporting the day stem from the back, thus controlling these thieves who are stealing the vital energy.

The lesson is of the bending and straight type. The three transmissions combine to form a wood pattern that supports the day stem, which is a good thing. However, the official ghost of the亥 water appears above the day stem, which is not favorable. Fortunately, the nobleman and the day's virtue are both present above the day stem, which can transform the bad omen into a good one. As for the five hidden spirits among the four lessons and three transmissions, the matter they represent is mostly obscure and unclear, and can only be carried out secretly.

Divination for weather: The water deity overcomes the day stem, indicating rain naturally; but the three transmissions form a wood pattern, and wood represents wind, so when the wind arises, the rain stops. Divination for the household: The earthy branch Chou, being the tomb of the day branch, covers and presses upon the residence, causing the household's people to lack peace. Divination for official rank: The nobleman and the day virtue both attend the day stem, which is most auspicious for seeking official position. Divination for seeking wealth: There was originally some property in the residence, but it is locked by the tomb deity and difficult to retrieve. Divination for marriage: Divination done in the daytime is favorable for the male party. Divination for pregnancy: A female child is a joy, but the childbirth will be difficult. Divination for illness: The condition lies in insufficient heart blood, and it can be cured soon. Divination for warfare: It is most auspicious.

The "Bifa Fu" says, "When both noblemen are overcome, it is difficult to seek the nobleman; if the official ghost rides upon the Heavenly Ethical Person, the offense is caused by divine beings." When both noblemen are overcome, it is hard to meet with the nobleman; if the official ghost is accompanied by the Heavenly Ethical Person, the problem is due to divine interference. The "Liu Ren Zhinan" records a case: In the year Dingchou, in the fourth lunar month, someone asked about taking leave to return home to visit relatives. The diviner said, the Heavenly Horse is attached to the place of birth and unwilling to move; the official star and nobleman are both restraining, so the matter is not under one's control; the Vermilion Bird falls into Kongwang, so the leave application will not be approved; the sovereign is both born and buried in the day branch, so there will certainly be a kind word from above to retain him. Later, it indeed came true.

The "Ancient Mirror" records that in the first month, someone divined their future. The diviner said: The person's age of thirty falls on the position of Shen. Shen metal generates Hai water, which is the official star, so this person will be able to pass the examination. However, Hai water harms the person's own energy, so there will certainly be a serious illness in the middle. Fortunately, the three transmissions form a curved and straight wood structure, which releases the Hai water and transforms it into Ding fire, so the illness will not lead to death. The number of Mao is six, indicating that this person will hold six official positions in total. Wood generates wind, and the final transmission is the tomb god located in the dead position, so he will eventually die from a wind illness. Later events proved this to be true. The "Verification of Divination" also records that a person born in the year Hai divined his own destiny. The diviner said: The number of Hai is four, and the number of Wei is eight. Four multiplied by eight is thirty-two. Now he is forty-nine years old, and the official star has already passed. After that, the cutting off god harms the person's own energy, so he will certainly die in the year Xinhai. His family's house was on the left side, where a tomb was built, cutting off the qi flow, leading to the family's ruin and death. This is because the tomb of Chou is on the left, and it is occupied by the broken and destructive evil star. It is the same divination lesson, but because the person's birth chart includes an extra water element, the outcome turned out to be so different.

On the Dingyou day, the tenth layout: the stem is on the戌 position.

The four lessons have no direct conflicts above or below; the initiating transmission is caused by the lesson god remotely controlling the day stem, which still belongs to the category of remote control. Its power is weak, like grass being pierced by an arrow, hence it is called "Hao Shi" (Grass Arrow). Since the lesson contains Tiangang (Chen) cutting through the path, it carries the characteristic of cutting through the gate. The three transmissions, with Zi, Mao, and Wu, generate from bottom to top in layers, like a high canopy, hence it is called "Gao Gai" (High Canopy). The meaning of the lesson says: the day stem is Ding fire, which is buried in Xu; the day branch is You metal, which is drained by Zi water. Both the person and the house are empty and in danger; at night, there is a risk of theft and loss. In the end, one can only remain silent and return home in vain.

The day stem is Ding, which belongs to fire. The墓 of fire is in Xu, and the day stem is exactly Xu, so the self is dim and unclear. The metal energy of the day branch You is drained by Zi water, so the residence is empty. The first transmission is Zi water, which rides on Yuan Wu and attacks the day stem. Since the divination was done at night, there will certainly be theft or loss of property. The middle transmission is Mao, which is the last position of this ten-day period. The end of the period signifies silence, so one should speak little to avoid causing trouble. On You day, there is also Zi over You, with the upper rider being "Heavenly Empress," one of the Twelve Heavenly Generals, which belongs to water and governs women's private affairs. There will be visits from female religious figures such as nuns in the family.

The divination lesson of the蒿矢 is weak in power, resulting in light misfortune and light fortune. The first transmission is Zi water, which is the official ghost of the day stem Ding. Although the third transmission shows successive mutual generation, the four lessons and three transmissions interact with mutual punishment and restriction, making it still dangerous. Fortunately, the day stem Wu forms Liu He with the middle transmission Mao, and also forms San He with the final transmission Wu. These harmonies will pull both transmissions towards itself, thus restraining the ghost of Zi water. This is a fortunate thing amidst misfortune; although the ghost is present, there is ultimately a way to save.

Divination for weather: Zi water initiates the transmission, and the Tiangang points to the yin position, so rain is naturally expected. Divination for the household: there is great loss and instability. Divination for official positions: the official element is used to initiate the transmission, and the Ding day stem's luck is settled in the Wei position, making it very favorable to seek officialdom. Divination for wealth: one cannot even keep their own wealth, how can they talk about external wealth? Divination for marriage: the woman is likely not chaste. Divination for pregnancy: two yang spirits are wrapped around one yin spirit, so the fetus is likely female. Divination for illness: the heart meridian is weak, and the illness is very severe. Divination for lost items: at night, the Yuanwu overcomes the day stem, making it difficult to capture the thief. Divination for travel: both water and land routes are unfavorable. Divination for a traveler: the Tiangang is added to the position of the four seasons, so the person can arrive immediately. Divination for warfare: both the day stem and day branch are drained, so neither side gains an advantage. Divination for burial: facing south from the壬 mountain in the丙 direction is favorable, the water flow is strong, it can bring wealth but not increase descendants.

The "Bifa Fu" states, "When the day stem is in its tomb and the gate is cut off, people and their homes will be ruined." The commentary adds that in winter, if the day stem is in its tomb and also meets the cutting gate, both people and their homes will suffer decline. The "Liu Ren Zhi Nan" records a case: in the year Jisi, during the eleventh month, the diviner used the hour戌 (dog) with the general丑 (ox) to cast the horoscope. There was a person who was summoned because there were thieves causing disturbances in his hometown, so he cast this horoscope. The diviner said that both the heavenly stem and earthly branch were riding on death qi and tomb spirits, and the Yuanwu (Black Tortoise) was in a place of decline. However, the spirit on the day stem could still control it, so the band of thieves would soon be defeated and captured. The person then asked about the safety of his home. He had two sons, one born in the year Wuzi and the other in the year Yihai. The diviner said that the one born in Wuzi would eventually achieve success in the imperial examinations, while the one born in Yihai had some official rank but had not yet achieved it. Both would have to move to another place, and they would be safe. Soon, the thieves indeed were defeated, and the family remained unharmed.
