On the day of Guisi, the eleventh section: the stem is over the branch of Mao.

Qing (清) · anonymous (佚名) · Volume 44 / 85

Charting guides: Da Liu Ren Chart Calculator, Jin Kou Jue Chart

The Lesson Pattern has five types: remote overcoming, arrow of reed, cultivating virtue, Guasu, and 'entering the underworld'. The Three Transmissions proceed from the hour to酉 and亥, moving towards darkness. The Lesson Meaning states: the water source has dried up, the tree roots have broken, and any plans made will be scattered and without direction; the Three Transmissions proceed step by step, gradually losing strength, becoming darker and darker, as if leading the source into the land of the underworld.

The day stem and day branch are both generated from below to above, gradually exhausting their energy, and the initiating transmission god is precisely in the旬空, which is not unlike a stream running dry at its source or a branch of a tree cutting off from its roots. All things become empty expenditure, failing to reach any solid result. The three transmissions further successively deplete each other, passing from the position of day to that of night, with five yin gods following one after another, not exactly like taking one step after another into darkness.

The interpretation says: This divination lesson indicates that both misfortune and good fortune are light. It also coincides with Kongwang and Tuoqi, meaning the matter has no clear trace or direction. Good things are not really good, and bad things are not really bad. Expenses may be for children or have been taken by servants and attendants. If this lesson is used to divinate illness, it is likely due to one's own lack of self-restraint leading to serious conditions. Those who receive this lesson are most suitable to become monks or Taoist priests.

Inquiring about the weather, the Vermilion Bird initiates the transmission, and the Tiangang points to the Yang position, suggesting rain may not fall. Inquiring about the household, the heavenly stem and earthly branch are in harmony but both are riding on the losing energy, indicating continuous expenditure. Inquiring about career prospects, the Nobleman is present on the day stem, and the official star initiates the transmission, suggesting potential for official rank, but there will be many expenses. Inquiring about wealth, on a water day encountering Ding, there is potential for gain. Inquiring about marriage, the lesson name is Guasu, indicating an unfavorable marriage outcome. Inquiring about pregnancy, there is no Yang in the transmission, indicating a female child; the mother is empty while the child is solid, suggesting a smooth and quick delivery. Inquiring about illness, it is likely to be ailments such as regurgitation, food injury, or vomiting, or possibly kidney deficiency with bladder damage. Fortunately, the spirits are absent, so no medication is needed and recovery is possible. Inquiring about travel, both land and water routes are not favorable. Inquiring about distant people, the Tiangang is added to the four young branches, indicating they have not yet started. Inquiring about military matters, there is only a name without substance, and no clear advantage is visible.

Two lines from the "Bi Fa Fu" say: "Day and night nobleman joins another nobleman, and two places for seeking help are available." When nobleman appears both in day and night, two places for seeking help are available. Another line says: "When Tiangang blocks the ghost gate, one may proceed with plans freely." The "Zhi Zhang Fu" says: When the three transmissions include Wu, You, and Hai, it is called entering the underworld, indicating laborious efforts and things getting worse. The "Yu Cheng Ge" says: On a water day with a fire general, one is constantly alarmed; when Gou Chen and Zhu Que appear together in the three transmissions, there will be lawsuits and injuries. The "Xin Yan Fu" says: When Zi is on the fourth season branch and is accompanied by Bai Hu, there will be frequent illness and misfortune for the family's children this year. The "Zuan Yao" says: When Chen is on top of Yin, it is called Tiangang blocking the ghost gate, and regardless of whether it is in the three transmissions or not, it can prevent ghosts from peeking.

On the day of Guisi, the twelfth section: Jia on the Heaven stem, Yin on the Earth branch.

The lesson pattern has four types: remote control, arrow of grass, connected roots, and Guasu. The lesson meaning says: the god of the arrow of grass is located in Kongwang, which is not a cause for concern, and going forward leads to continuous good fortune; however, the寅 on the day stem is occupied by the Black Tortoise, causing it to lose strength, and the午 wealth on the day branch also falls into Kongwang, so losses and thefts should be guarded against in advance.

The earth of Wei (未) acts as a distantrestrain of the day stem, but it is pleasant that it falls in the empty旬, being empty and weak, so there is no need to be afraid. Following the three transmissions forward, one meets the metal of Shen and You which nourish the癸 water, which is not a bad sign. However, the wood of Yin on the day stem rides on the Black Tortoise to drain the energy of the day stem, and the wealth of Wu on the day branch also happens to be in the empty旬. Therefore, worries such as loss and leakage of wealth should be foreseen and prepared for in advance.

The interpretation says: This is also a lesson of the arrow, similar to the previous one. The spirit of Kongwang is coming to attack the day stem, indicating that the matter has many threads and complexities. Generally, the three transmissions proceed like pulling out roots of reeds, moving forward continuously. Advancing brings benefit, while retreating brings no achievement; even if there are some contradictions in the middle, one must still strive forward.

Questioning about the weather, the mansion of Bi is in the position of Wei, and it will eventually rain. Questioning about the family home, the wife and wealth line is empty, indicating an unfavorable omen for the house. Questioning about official career, the official line is empty, indicating an unfavorable omen for the position. Questioning about marriage, the wife line is empty, indicating an unfavorable omen. Questioning about illness, it is a symptom of kidney deficiency, and the illness can be cured without medicine. Questioning about pregnancy, the fetal god is empty, suggesting perhaps a false hope. Questioning about distant people, the Tiangang is added to the four central branches, and they are still on the way. Questioning about military affairs, it will first be unfavorable but then favorable.

The *Bifa Fu* says, "Plans are often clumsy and meet a net," meaning that when encountering heaven's net and earth's net, one's plans are mostly clumsy and difficult to succeed. The *Gujian* records a case: taking寅 as the month general and丑 time to divinate wealth, the interpretation said:午 is the wife's wealth, indicating seeking money from the wife's family, which was agreed upon but not obtained, because午 falls in the旬空;寅 is the son of癸, and寅 assists the day stem's lodgment palace申, so the wealth was obtained because of having a son; later, there was a problem with servants, and the money was gained and lost quickly, because the empty酉 and破碎 were present; the year pillar was酉, which formed six harms with戌, and the white tiger combined with the blood branch, indicating possible legal troubles, almost unavoidable punishment, but fortunately forming triple harmony, eventually being resolved. Later, all these predictions came true. Another divination case by Zhao Gong:戌 added on酉 to divinate the house, the interpretation said: in old age, the person will favor a concubine, and wealth will be stolen, because the final transmission酉 is both the concubine and破碎; the year pillar is亥, which is Tai Chang, indicating mourning for someone from another family; the heavenly empress is riding on a declining qi, indicating the daughter-in-law will have a miscarriage due to illness, which should occur after April. All these predictions also came true.

On the Jiawu day, the first arrangement: the stem is over the Yin branch.

There are three types of lesson patterns:Hidden Chant, which means the hidden chant; 自任, where the day stem takes charge on its own, being strong and not relying on external factors; and 元胎. The meaning of the lesson says: the day stem refuses to stay with its current fortune, instead moving forward recklessly, heading into the empty void of kongwang; the post-horse carries a ghost riding a white tiger, chasing from the final transmission onwards.

Yin is the禄神 of Jia day, appearing on the self and initiating the transmission, which should be held onto. Yet it abandons this position and moves forward, falling onto the middle transmission at Si, which is exactly the Kongwang陷落 place; moving further it meets the final transmission at Shen, which is the ghost of Jia wood and is accompanied by the White Tiger during the day. A person being moved by the Post-horse and acting recklessly inevitably brings misfortune. How can this be compared to holding onto the virtue and禄神 that support oneself, bringing stability and auspiciousness?

The interpretation states: This lesson is compatible with the Yuan Tai pattern, indicating something latent and not yet revealed, bent but not yet extended. The final transmission shows the Post-horse, indicating movement within stillness. However, the middle transmission falls into Kongwang, which is called a broken waist, meaning that any endeavor will meet obstacles along the way. The Metal Ghost rides the White Tiger, known as promoting the Guanfu, leading to rapid promotion for officials, but ordinary people cannot bear it. Also, the day branch drains the energy of the day stem, with the Teng Snake riding on top, which is quite alarming; however, it can control the Metal Ghost, thus avoiding disaster. In conclusion, this lesson is unfavorable for taking initiative in endeavors.

Questioning about the weather, there is wind and the sky is cloudy and unsettled. Questioning about the household, it is better to be still rather than to move. Questioning about marriage, if divined at night, it may result in a union, but there is also a need to beware of obstacles along the way. Questioning about pregnancy, if divined in the tenth month, it indicates a secret pregnancy or a servant woman being pregnant. Questioning about official rank, if divined in the fourth month, it is favorable, but in other months, there is a risk of obstacles; those who already hold an official position may be transferred or reassigned. Questioning about wealth, it is sufficient to keep to one's own means, and seeking more will result in loss. Questioning about illness, it is a fire in the liver meridian; although a凶 omen is seen during the day, there is a way to resolve it. Questioning about lost items, they will not leave the household; those who have run away have not gone far. Questioning about travel, it is not advisable to move; those going to take office will encounter obstacles. Questioning about distant people, there will be obstacles on the way, but if divined for the巳 month, they will arrive. Questioning about lawsuits, it is better to seek reconciliation; if not, there will be danger. Questioning about military action, if divined during the day, it is unfavorable, but if at night, it is favorable.

Three rules from the "Bi Fa Fu" state: "Trust in Ding and the Post-horse, and speak of action." Whenever Ding and the Post-horse appear, the interpretation should focus on movement. "When the prosperous official is on the person, it is in vain to seek more." If the prosperous official is already on the person, further seeking is futile and a waste of effort. "When the White Tiger is with the ghost of the day stem, misfortune comes quickly." If the White Tiger is associated with the ghost of the day stem, misfortune arrives rapidly. The "Xiu Zhong Jin" states: For a lesson on the sixth heavenly stem day with a hidden chant, both the official and the post-horse are present. The three transmissions first mutually harm each other and then clash. Within the breaking, there is union; within the凶, there is good fortune. Misfortune and good fortune are interdependent, and cannot be judged in a general way. The "Shen Jiang Lun" states: The Teng Snake is born in the corner of the寅, the Gou Chen holds the seal in the巳, and the White Tiger carries the document in the申.

On the Jiawu day, the second arrangement: the dry branch is on the Chou position.

The lesson pattern has three types: knowing one; retreating and consuming; and the Three Marvels. When the Three Transmissions contain the extraordinary spirits within the ten-day cycle, it indicates a fortunate encounter that can resolve misfortune. The lesson meaning says: going backward can lead to the direction that nurtures me, but advancing leads to Kongwang. However, when the divination is done at night, the庚 metal emerges from the Zi hour along with the White Tiger, causing calamity within an otherwise peaceful situation.

Yin is placed on Mao, if moving forward it meets Chen, which is a Kongwang place; if moving backward, passing Chou to Zi, Zi is the position where Jia Wood is born and receives its vital energy. The water that nourishes Jia Wood is used as the initiating transmission, the middle transmission is also the position of growth, and the final transmission combines with the wealth god to form a Triple Harmony, which cannot be considered imperfect. However, when divining at night, the initial transmission Zi is hidden as Geng Metal in this cycle, becoming the ghost of Jia Wood, and it is accompanied by the White Tiger, secretly attacking the day stem, thus turning good fortune into misfortune.

The interpretation says: Knowing the first lesson, the stem and branch interact in a harmful way, indicating that in matters of affection there is damage, and in gatherings there is separation. The three transmissions form a water pattern, also called moistening and descending. The day stem is born by the water and controls the day branch, which may be unfavorable for descendants; all affairs should retreat rather than advance. The three marvels deities are born to the day stem and initiate the transmission, and also form aLiu He with the deities on the day stem. Divination in the daytime is favorable; divination at night is only favorable for those seeking official positions, while other matters are unfavorable.

Questioning about the weather, there is abundant rain. Questioning about the family home, there should be caution against disputes and quarrels as well as servants committing adultery; it is suitable to move or renovate. Questioning about marriage, it is not suitable. Questioning about childbirth, it is safe. Questioning about official success, scholars may have unexpected opportunities, or receive help from others secretly, or benefit from ancestral favor. Seeking wealth, it will take some time to obtain. Questioning about illness, the situation is extremely dangerous at night, but fortunately there is a strange deity who can resolve it. Questioning about lost items, they can be recovered. Questioning about travel, it is suitable to take office, but other matters are unfavorable. Questioning about distant people, there will be a letter arriving first. Questioning about lawsuits, one will not lose. Questioning about military affairs, there will be no advantage gained. Questioning about burial, it is likely an old grave pit, the mountain facing the tomb will be empty, which is not auspicious.

Two passages from the "Bi Fa Fu" state: "White Tiger riding the hidden ghost brings serious calamity," meaning when the White Tiger is combined with the hidden ghost, the disaster is severe; "Six Yang numbers are complete, suitable for official matters," meaning when the six Yang numbers are all present, it is appropriate for matters concerning government officials. The "Ke Jing" says: if the three transmissions are born on the day stem and overcome the day branch, the person who is divining is prosperous but does not have a main house to live in, which is called the person's prosperity but abandoning the house pattern. The "Liu Ren Zhi Nan" records a case: in the year Renwu, during the seventh lunar month, a guest had just sat down and had not yet spoken when he began to calculate the divination in his sleeve. He predicted: the nobleman is present, so this person must have passed the imperial examination, either surnamed Tian or Wang; the nobleman is overcome by the day stem, the year's destruction is also the initiating transmission, and the transmission pattern is still retreat and rejection, so there must be an offense against the court; however, it is fortunate that the Yin spirits of the first, middle, and final transmissions are all benevolent, so there will not be a great disaster. Later, it was indeed the case that a man surnamed Wang, an imperial examination graduate of the Jiaxu examination, was arrested for failing to defend the city and was charged, but eventually escaped punishment and disaster.

On the Jiawu day, third section, the dry branch is on the Zi position.

The Lesson Pattern has four types: Involved Harm, Intermediate Transmission, Cutting the Gate, and Cultivating Virtue. The Lesson Meaning states: when divining at night, fear the Zi (rat) position; when divining in the day, fear the Shen (monkey) position; both are ominous spirits. If all four lessons and three transmissions fall within the six Yang positions, it is called the full number of six Yangs. The Lesson Qi moves from the night position to the day position, indicating a sign of abandoning the old and seeking the new.

The hidden庚 metal in the子 position acts as a ghost of甲 wood, riding upon the White Tiger and resting on the day stem; the申 itself is also a ghost of甲 wood, also riding the White Tiger and entering the three transmissions. Therefore, when divining at night, one should fear the子, and when divining in the day, one should fear the申. In the end, it is all because they ride upon the White Tiger, a凶 general. All four lessons and three transmissions fall upon the six yang positions, which is called sufficient yang numbers. Any divination of this lesson is most suitable for matters concerning officialdom, but unfavorable for private schemes. The qi of the lesson moves from the position of night to that of day, indicating a transition from darkness to light, and a discarding of the old for the new.

The divination indicates that the course of events will be difficult at first but easier later. The three transmissions are separated by positions and retreat, and are then led by the initial transmission's戌 (Xu) wealth into the ghost and escaping qi of the middle and final transmissions, which is called the perverse pattern, also known as reversing the snake. All matters will be very arduous. Fortunately, the life qi is seated on the day stem, and the odd spirits are also seated on the day, which can transform misfortune into auspiciousness. The final transmission supports the initial transmission's wealth, indicating assistance from others. The nobleman is located at the卯 (Mao) and酉 (You) positions, meaning that the powerful will have joy, while women and children will face calamity.

Questioning about the weather, it indicates that it will first rain and then clear up. Questioning about the household, it suggests losses and waste. The branch 'Chou' is placed on 'Mao', and during the night, the sky is occupied by 'Tian Kong', indicating that there is disturbance in the direction of the gate and the house, with both people and the dwelling being unsettled. It is advisable to perform a ceremony to thank the earth deity. Questioning about marriage, the origin is not proper. Questioning about childbirth, the fetal condition is stable, but the delivery is unfavorable. Questioning about official rank, it suggests that one will obtain a title through wealth, those in high positions will be promoted, while those in low positions will be dismissed. Questioning about wealth, the source is ambiguous and should not be disclosed to others, and there is a risk of regret due to money; merchants will suffer losses and delays in their journeys. Questioning about illness, it is caused by excessive sexual activity, which is very dangerous, but there is a way to resolve it. Questioning about lost items, it is either stolen by a woman or taken by a child. Questioning about travel, going to take an official post is favorable, but there is a risk of loss. Questioning about distant people, they will arrive soon. Questioning about legal disputes, it is unfavorable to meet with officials, and reconciliation is advisable. Questioning about military action, it is inauspicious.

The Four Rules from the "Bi Fa Fu" state: "When six yang numbers are complete, public affairs should be handled," meaning when all six yang stems are present, it is suitable for official matters; "When the day branch is a grave and the wealth爻 is in the墓, traveling will be delayed," indicating that if the day branch is considered a grave and the wealth爻 is in the墓, one will encounter delays when going on a journey; "When the White Tiger is near the day stem and the ghost is present, misfortune comes quickly," meaning if the White Tiger is adjacent to the day stem and the ghost is present, misfortune arrives rapidly; "When the Heavenly Empress combines with the六合, marriage does not require a matchmaker," implying that if the Heavenly Empress and theLiu He are together, marriage does not need a媒人. The "Zhi Zhang Fu" says: when the three transmissions include the戌, 申, and 午, it is called悖戾, indicating the person is full of regret. This is because戌 and 午 can normally form a fire trinity with 寅, but the 申 in between actually becomes arestrain, hence called悖戾. The "Shen Jiang Lun" states: when the Black Tortoise is on the戌, it is called being trapped, and if the财星 is also present, it indicates loss of property and delays in affairs, with more failures than successes.

On the fourth layout of Jiawu day, the heavenly stem is on the亥 position.

"Lesson Pattern" refers to the overall structure formed by the four lessons and three transmissions. This case belongs to "Remote Control": there is no direct control or conflict between the upper and lower lessons, so the initiating transmission must be derived from a distant controlling god. Among these, the type where the god from the upper lesson controls the day stem is called "Hao Shi," like an arrow made of reeds shooting from afar, with a weak force. Also, because the gods of the four first months add up to form "Yuan Tai," the matter tends to start anew. "Lesson Meaning" is a four-character rhymed summary of the fortune of the entire case. Here it says: the initiating transmission, the metal of Shen, is the arrow that has shot, and being hit by it is not a good omen; the metal of Shen is both the post-horse of the Jia day and the official ghost that conquers the Jia wood, equivalent to a fast horse carrying a malevolent ghost rushing in, making it hardest to escape misfortune when divined in the daytime.

The蒿矢 lesson usually has weak power, but this case is initiated by the Metal of Shen, which is like equipping the蒿 arrow with a metal tip. Once it is shot, the result will not be good. Moreover, the Metal of Shen is both the official ghost and the Post-horse for the Jia day. As a ghost, it indicates serious illness, and as a horse, it suggests rapid onset. If the lesson is cast at night, the Heavenly General is still slow, and one can managewith difficulty. However, if cast in the day, the Shen position is occupied by the White Tiger, which governs disease and death, making the danger double. At this point, even the most skilled in avoiding misfortune finds it difficult to escape unscathed.

The interpretation says: This type of divination involving the arrow of wormwood indicates that whether the outcome is good or bad, the weight of the result is not great. However, the chart also conforms to the pattern of "disease and embryo," indicating much doubt and hesitation, with matters remaining unresolved for a long time. The White Tiger is riding on the official ghost of the metal monkey (申) on the day stem, initiating the transmission, which is extremely dangerous. Fortunately, the three transmissions in the middle break down, the energy is cut off halfway, and both good and bad outcomes dissipate. However, those seeking official rank may feel it is a failure. If this divination is cast in the months of辰, 戌, 丑, or 未, the water of亥 is out of its season and lacks vitality, but it is fortunate that the official ghost of metal monkey (申) turns to generate the water of亥, which is a blessing in disguise. Otherwise, one should remain humble and wait patiently: the long life of the wood stem 甲 is the water of亥, which is right above the day stem, and can also secretly borrow the energy of the metal monkey (申) to nurture the day stem.

Inquiring about the weather, after rain the temperature turns cold, and the sun is about to rise but does not, indicating a sign of a strong wind. Inquiring about the home, the卯wood is placed over午fire forming the 'closed mouth' pattern, suggesting there may be a mute person in the family; the White Tiger is on申, indicating that the sick person in the house will not recover soon; the house also sees the Vermilion Bird and Gou Chen, indicating matters involving documents and contracts, requiring extra caution. Inquiring about marriage, although there is harmony, there are still obstacles in the middle. Inquiring about childbirth, mother and child are safe, but there is a risk of giving birth to a mute child. Inquiring about official rank, encountering巳year and巳month brings great fortune, matching the 'offering official and seal' pattern, which is a good omen of a carp turning into a dragon. Inquiring about wealth, there are many false alarms and troubles, but the actual profit is very small. Inquiring about illness, it indicates diseases of the throat area; if the inquiry is made in the metal months of巳,酉, and丑, it may turn into a disaster of pus and bleeding. Inquiring about lost items, the Black Tortoise is riding on the Nobleman's head, indicating the capture of the Gou Chen falls into Kongwang, and the lost item cannot be recovered. Inquiring about travel, once out, one must return. Inquiring about a traveler, there is an obstacle on the way. Inquiring about a lawsuit, it is favorable for the plaintiff who initiates the case first, but unfavorable for the defendant who is defending, and even if one seeks help from the Nobleman, it will not be effective. Inquiring about warfare, one must be cautious.

The *Bi Fa Fu* says: When the guest and host do not harmonize, it is because the god of mutual punishment is in a superior position; when encountering a lesson pattern of "closed mouth," it should be analyzed in two different situations. The *Ke Jing* says: When亥 is added to寅, the Heavenly General in the night is "Tai Chang," who is responsible for food, clothing, and feasting. Also, if it is on a day with the stem Jia, and the long life of亥 water is present, the person asking the question is likely inquiring about marriage, or there will be a reward, gift of food or clothing. The *Shen Jiang Lun* says: When Taichong (Mao wood) is riding on Gou Chen and falls into an empty position, it symbolizes a monk who has left the household; according to the initiating transmission, the monk referred to is mostly impure and lacks real virtue. It also says: When the Heavenly Empress is added to the position of Shen, on a day with the stem Jia, it represents a lake or pond.

On the fifth arrangement of Jiawu day, the stem is on the戌 position.

This lesson's "Lesson Pattern" is "Re-examination." Among the four lessons, the lower god controls the upper god, so we take the initiating transmission to indicate that the matter originates internally and requires careful re-examination. The three transmissions, Yin, Wu, and Xu, form a fire trinity, so it is also called "Inflaming Ascension." The Hekui (Xu) earth god is placed on the day stem as the initiating transmission, which is called "Cutting the Pass," indicating movement across boundaries and active pursuit. The六合 (Liu He) and Heavenly Empress (Tianhou) both enter the transmission, which is called "Cunning Boy," indicating improper matters between men and women. The lesson's meaning is that the person represented by the day stem is weak, while the house represented by the day branch is strong. The other party is constantly opposing me, yet I go out of my way to accommodate them. If this is about a lawsuit, it is advisable to be humble and yield to the other side. If it is about illness, it indicates a loss of vital energy, exhaustion, and depletion.

The Three Transmissions form a fire configuration, and fire is the thing that is generated by the wood of Jia. This is equivalent to completely draining the vital energy of the Day Stem. However, it also relates to the Day Branch's Wu fire, which is of the same kind and thus supports it. Therefore, it is said that one aspect is declining while another is flourishing. In terms of the relationship between self and others, the other party drains and consumes me, yet I in turn generate and assist them. This is precisely a situation where the other has an intention to harm me, yet I offer them my support. If this configuration appears in a divination about litigation, the effect will be on the Day Branch which is being nourished, and one must be willing to yield and comply with the other party. If this configuration appears in a divination about illness, the effect will be on the Day Stem which is being drained, resulting in a weak vital energy, which is very concerning.

The divination indicates that the current hexagram forms a fiery upward fire pattern, suggesting that affairs will encounter many obstacles. Obvious issues are hidden beneath the surface. Following proper principles will bring good fortune, but acting against authority will lead to misfortune. The four lessons and three transmissions repeatedly revolve around the three directions of寅, 午, and 戌, with the beginning and end connected but no clear order, indicating that all matters will be difficult to achieve, and once thought to be settled, they will remain unclear. The other party benefits while I suffer losses, and the waste continues endlessly. Moreover, the name "wicked youth" inherently suggests improper behavior, and the image of "cutting through the gate" certainly does not indicate a peaceful and contented state. How can one not be doubly cautious?

Inquiring about the weather, there will be rain after a long drought, accompanied by wind and thunder. Inquiring about the household, the family has a decline in members, and one should be cautious of servants or maids running away. Inquiring about marriage, this match should not be discussed further. Inquiring about childbirth, there will be difficulty in delivery, with the mother being strong but the fetus weak. Inquiring about official rank, although there is a position with a salary, it is not a high-ranking official. Inquiring about wealth, it is suitable to recover old debts, but not suitable for trade; it also indicates great expenditure on house repairs or loss due to others taking advantage. Inquiring about illness, it suggests a loss of vital energy or a condition of excessive internal heat. Inquiring about lost items, it may be due to a celebration at home or theft by servants who have been unfaithful. Inquiring about travel, it is favorable for escaping danger or fleeing, but other situations should be guarded against losses. Inquiring about a traveler, he will arrive home on a day of Wu or Bing. Inquiring about disputes, it can be resolved through mediation. Inquiring about military matters, it is favorable to secretly cross borders, and it is best to cease hostilities and seek peace. Inquiring about graves, it is auspicious to face the direction of Kun and have the dragon of Bing mountain, which brings prosperity and more children.

The *Bifa Fu* says: If the official star is located on the day branch, officials are mostly acting as temporary administrators with improper status; if the Heavenly Empress combines with Liu He to predict marriage, the man and woman have already privately agreed, so there is no need for a matchmaker; if the first transmission is sandwiched between two conflicting ones and is overcome, the matter is not under one's own control; if the day branch is in a grave and the wealth star is buried, the journey will certainly be delayed. The *Sanche Yilan* says: If all three transmissions are leaking and consuming stars, yet they reverse to nourish the wealth star on the day stem, this is called "taking back a soul debt," equivalent to bringing dead money back to life. It also says: If the day stem is placed on the day branch, seeking property will certainly succeed; but since the day branch consumes the stem, even if one manages to obtain the house now, there will be no real benefit in the future.

On the Jiawu day, sixth arrangement: the heavenly stem is on You.

This lesson's "Lesson Pattern" is "Original Head"—among the four lessons, there is only one instance where the upper god overcomes the lower god, and this is taken as the initiating transmission, making the beginning clear and distinct, indicating that the matter is often initiated by a man first. The transmissions of the lesson are all in the state of absolute decline, thus also receiving the name "Four Absolute Ends." The meaning of the lesson indicates that the Black Tortoise, which represents the thief, and the wealth god, the earth dog, are both in the middle transmission, meaning that wealth is difficult to retain; the final transmission,亥 water, which is originally the long life of the甲 wood, has fallen into the water grave of the empty void, thus its vitality is ineffective; the initiating transmission,酉 metal, is both the official ghost that overcomes the甲 wood and has escaped from the dry branch of the丁 dry, as the nature of丁 is active, thus ominous signs and active signs meet repeatedly.

Chen earth is the wealth god for Jia day stem. Now the Black Tortoise, which governs theft, is in the same hexagram as the middle transmission Chen earth, and Chen is precisely in the旬空. How can wealth not be lost? The final transmission Hai water, which should be the long life of Bing wood, is instead thrown into the water grave of the旬空. The life qi is entirely buried, how can there be any benefit? What remains is You metal official ghost riding on Ding god, appearing on the day stem and initiating the transmission: being a ghost is enough to bring misfortune, and being Ding is especially restless. The day stem and the first transmission are nested together, how can one not be afraid?

The divination states: This is a lesson concerning the chief ruler, indicating that the matter is initiated by a man, and the one who acts first will gain an advantage. However, the day stem is seated upon theTomb Spirit (grave god), so one must not act rashly; once involved, one will be deceived. The official ghost is riding upon the Ding god to initiate the transmission, and the丑 earth in the day branch comes to assist in restraining the day stem. If the person being divined does not hold an official position, there must be disturbances caused by malevolent spirits within the household, disrupting the family. Although the辰 and酉 form theLiu He (six harmonies), the three transmissions are self-inflicting and mutually harmful, ultimately leading to dissatisfaction.

Inquiring about the weather, the sky is cloudy but no rain will fall. Inquiring about the house, the foundation is basically auspicious, and a nobleman may come, but still disaster should be guarded against. Inquiring about marriage, it is difficult to achieve but easy to part. Inquiring about pregnancy, the metal of酉 is located at the ghost gate position, so one must be cautious of a false or ghostly pregnancy; if the person has already given birth and asks now, delivery can take place immediately. Inquiring about official rank, an official position can be obtained, but there will be changes along the way, or one may be secretly harmed by others. Inquiring about wealth, one must be cautious of misfortune arising from wealth, and in the end, it will all be in vain. Inquiring about illness, it is extremely凶: the metal of酉 as the official ghost is alone in action, and the metal of申 is resting outside the tomb, which is like an external ghost calling the patient at the door. Inquiring about lost items, they are difficult to recover. Inquiring about travel, it is not auspicious, and in fact, the journey cannot be made. Inquiring about a traveler, the spirit of丁 is alone in action, so the traveler will arrive at the house immediately. Inquiring about a lawsuit, the party who initiates the complaint first will win, but ultimately it will end in reconciliation. Inquiring about military matters, one must be extremely cautious.

The "Bifa Fu" says: Although many ghosts are apparent, as long as the day stem has another saving deity, there is no need to fear at all; if the three transmissions do not flow smoothly, one should return to examine the first transmission and the time of divination. The "Ke Jing" says: If the Vermilion Bird serves as the official ghost of the day stem and is placed upon the day stem, it is called the "Què Guǐ Gé," which indicates calamity from documents and disputes. When the day stem and day branch each overcome the upper deity of the other, it is the true "Jie Li" hexagram, indicating separation. The "Zhi Zhang Fu" says: When the day branch is placed upon the卯 and酉 gates, what should separate becomes united, and what should unite becomes separated. The "Liu Ren Jing Yun" gives an example: Using the丑 general to divinate about a traveler, the heaven plate's寅 is the nobleman of the diviner's age, which is reversed to the earth plate's寅 position, requiring passage through the卯 gate. At the卯 position, there is戌, which contains the辛 metal that overcomes both the day stem and the traveler's age; the寅 is also overcome by the酉 metal, thus concluding that the traveler will not return.
