Bingyin day, First Division: Heaven stem on Si
Charting guides: Da Liu Ren Chart Calculator, Jin Kou Jue Chart
This lesson's "Lesson Pattern" is "Hidden Chant," combined with "Original Fetus," "Self-Appointment," "Officialdom," and "Cultivating Virtue." "Officialdom" indicates that the Day Stem is seated directly on its own禄 position. The "Lesson Meaning" states: the three transmissions start from the Day Stem and return to the Branch, indicating entrusting someone to handle affairs. The Branch's horse is in申 and the transmissions return to the Branch, so those traveling far will certainly return. The禄, wealth, and growth are all gathered in the three transmissions, so this is favorable for any divination.
The first transmission originates from the day stem, and the final transmission returns to the day branch, indicating that someone else is acting on my behalf. TheThe Post-horse (post-horse) of the day branch寅 is in申, and the three transmissions also return to the day branch. Therefore, even if someone travels far, they will certainly return. The禄神 (favorable official),The Post-horse (post-horse),Growth (growth), and财爻 (wealth hexagram) all gather within the three transmissions, ensuring that whatever is sought will be fulfilled. However, this lesson pattern itself contains a crime and a conflict, so it is only auspicious if there is a good beginning and a favorable conclusion.
This is the "Self-Responsibility" hexagram, also known as "Original Embryo" and "Cultivating Virtue." When divining matters, stillness is favorable, but any movement leads to obstruction. The matter is characterized by concealment and difficulty in unfolding. A gentleman should merely uphold righteousness and cultivate virtue to achieve success. Seeking official positions or visiting important persons brings good fortune due to encountering the禄神 (Lùshén, the God of Favor) andThe Post-horse (Yìmǎ, the Post-horse), but the presence ofpunishment and clash (Xíngchōng, punishment and clash) prevents completeness, resulting in a somewhat incomplete outcome. Whenever this "Cultivating Virtue" hexagram appears, one should hold the mindset of assisting the sovereign and benefiting the people, naturally leading to smoothness and no blockages. It is favorable in spring and summer, ordinary in autumn, and inauspicious in winter. Those whose destiny or current year is in戌 (Xū) or亥 (Hài) should avoid this hexagram.
Divination for weather shows that it will first be clear then rain, with the appearance of a rainbow and lightning, and also wind. Divination for the household indicates that people and wealth will flourish, but it is not favorable for livestock. Divination for marriage suggests difficulty in success. If divined during the day, there will be many children in the future; if divined at night, the woman will be fierce and stubborn. Divination for childbirth indicates an easy delivery, but there is a risk of the child being deaf or mute. Divination for illness shows a tight and rapid pulse, alternating cold and heat, and loss of appetite; however, since the final transmission coincides with the day stem, recovery is likely. Divination for seeking wealth shows it will not be satisfactory. Divination for lost items indicates the item is still at home. Divination for capturing a person shows the person has not left their hometown or county and will be captured while moving around. Divination for travel shows the journey will not happen, but safety is ensured on the way. Divination for a traveler indicates that those traveling far are returning, and those nearby will arrive soon, expected on the day of亥 or戌. Divination for lawsuits shows that if resolved amicably it is auspicious, otherwise there will be danger of punishment. Divination for military campaigns warns of deception and indicates a situation of holding back.
The "Bifa Fu" says, "I seek the matter of the other party through the transmissions and branches": the three transmissions run from the day stem to the day branch, indicating that I am seeking the other party, which implies humbling myself and politely requesting. If the transmissions are prosperous and strong, it is auspicious. For all cases of hidden chant (fu yin), only six days with the stem Bing are considered auspicious, because the first transmission is virtue and rank, the middle transmission is wealth, and the final transmission is growth, but these three positions are all feared to fall into kongwang. The "Fenghou Yuanjing" says: on days with the stem Bing or Xin, the寅 (Yin) represents the enemy commander, and the申 (Shen), which is opposite to寅, represents the enemy deputy commander; if it appears on the day stem or day branch, the enemy commander will arrive that day. The "Yucheng Ge" says: in cases of hidden chant, every action fails to meet expectations, and instead indicates that someone who has left home is about to return to the doorstep.
On the Bingyin day, the second arrangement: the stem is on the Chen position.
This lesson pattern is "Zhi Yi," combined with "Zhan Guan," "Tui Ru," and "Tian Wang." "Tian Wang" signifies a net covering the head, and movement leads to being restricted. The lesson meaning states that the official ghost falls into an empty position, which is actually more frightening; emptiness means it will not act immediately, but it will return later, so when predicting illness, one must beware of a recurrence. The hour of Zi and Chou are combined, and since it is night with Zi as the upper term, it is the position of Ox and Female Ox combining, which is favorable for marriage predictions.
The water of the亥 branch is the proper official of the fire of丙, and the water of the子 branch is the seven killing ghost of丙. Since亥 is in the empty旬, and also occupies the position of子 on the earth plate, plus both day and night dignitaries are in empty positions. In divination about illness, the official ghost is the main concern. Now the official ghost is in empty positions, so the illness does not appear immediately, hence it is more dangerous, and one must be cautious of its possible recurrence. Any matter that has already been resolved and is divined with this pattern is feared to have new complications. Here, the example is given for divination about illness, but similar reasoning can be applied to other matters. The子 and丑 branches are in a harmonious relationship. When the子 branch is occupied at night and also has the Tai Chang, it is the position of the meeting of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, making it most suitable for divination about marriage. The three transmissions are like pulling up weeds by the roots, indicating that events often come suddenly. Moreover, all are retreating gods, suggesting that difficulties will come first, followed by ease.
In this hexagram, the official star, nobleman, wealth hexagram, and origin god all fall into vacancy, indicating that seeking official positions or noble connections will be in vain. Fortunately, the day stem carries the旬奇 (decade oddity) and the day branch carries the旬仪 (decade ritual), both appearing on the day. The旬奇 is on the day branch, and the旬仪 initiates the transmission, thus transforming misfortune into good fortune. On a yang day, taking the yang spirit as a companion suggests that the matter originates from peers or similar individuals, or from outside. Generally, it is advisable to change plans and decide on staying or leaving anew.
Divination for weather: During the day, it indicates rain that turns clear, while at night it suggests thick clouds without rain. Divination for the household: The house is empty and not suitable for living, there will be many disputes, and there is a risk of fire. Divination for marriage: During the day, the marriage will not succeed, but at night it is easy to get along, and even a matchmaker is not needed. Divination for childbirth: It is a boy, difficult labor, and the child may not survive. Divination for illness: A sudden illness can be cured by a ritual prayer to the gods, but a long-term illness will not be helped by medicine. Divination for seeking wealth: There will be only a little money, and it will be difficult to obtain. Divination for travel: It is advisable to delay the journey and to travel by land. Divination for a traveler: Those who leave nearby will arrive immediately, while those who travel far will arrive on the day of亥. Divination for thieves: They will escape and resist capture, but they will be caught within this ten-day period.
The "Bifa Fu" says, "A spacious house leads to the decline of its inhabitants": When the hidden spirit of the day branch is activated, it is the household ghost that is born from the day branch and then attacks the day stem. The wider the house, the more the inhabitants decline. At this time, it is most suitable to sell the house and convert it into money to prepare for expenses related to calamities. It also says, "Two noblemen are both empty and the joy is false": The two noblemen of the morning and evening both fall into kongwang. For example, when seeking help from a nobleman, he has already promised to help, but later someone else takes the lead; or someone comes to report good news, but one should not believe it. It is mostly the case that someone with the same name and surname benefits, and it is not one's own good fortune. In the end, it is just an empty joy, and one ends up spending money in vain.
On the Bingyin day, third section: the stem is on the卯 (Mao) branch.
This lesson's "Lesson Pattern" is "Re-examination," combined with "Intermediate Transmission," "Dragon Struggle," and "Opposite Angles." "Dragon Struggle" refers to the meaning of the line "The dragon struggles in the wild" from the "Zhou Changes" (I Ching) Kun hexagram, indicating a conflict between two strong forces. "Opposite Angles" means mutual separation and lack of communication between the parties. The "Lesson Meaning" states: Although卯 (Mao) nourishes fire, the丙 fire (Bing) is in theBathing (Bathing) stage in卯, which is a declining position, so what should nourish me actually leads to my decline; the conflict between子 and卯 is considered an insult; and both noblemen are empty, so one should not cling to the nobleman anymore.
The wood of卯 is able to generate the fire of丙, but the fire of丙 is in its bathing and declining place when it is on卯, so this matter is not reliable.卯 also harms子, indicating that the descendants are disorderly and there is no propriety between superiors and inferiors. The two noblemen of day and night both fall into the empty and lost place, so it is not advisable to seek help from noblemen. Both the day stem and day branch are in declining places, so it is not advisable to engage in lawsuits or disputes. This lesson has reached the extreme of yin energy, with a dark and confused lesson pattern. Among the harmonious aspects, there is also a breaking element, making it unfavorable for all kinds of matters.
This is the "Chong Shen" hexagram, also known as "Long Zhan," indicating confusion in mind and body, with little gain and much loss. One must repeatedly examine and consider matters carefully, seeking a balanced and reasonable resolution, in order to avoid calamity, regret, and misfortune. When this hexagram appears in any of the four seasons, it signifies an incomplete outcome. If it appears during the day, there is likely deceit; if at night, the nobleman is positioned at the亥 position, the heavenly gate, and there will be no obstruction. If the person being divined has their birth year and age corresponding to the子 position, the nobleman will be flanked by two noblemen in the day and night, and there will certainly be a nobleman offering false support.
Divination on weather indicates prolonged darkness with no clear skies, frequent rain and strong winds. Divination on the household suggests loss of people. During the day, there will be disturbances caused by fire or strange occurrences, but at night there may be good news. Divination on marriage indicates failure, and even if it succeeds, there will be conflicts. Divination on childbirth suggests the birth of a girl, which will be difficult and accompanied by unexpected troubles. Divination on illness indicates a prolonged and incurable condition, especially dangerous during the day. Divination on seeking wealth suggests great effort with little success, and even if obtained, it will bring no benefit. Divination on theft indicates that the thief is someone within the family, hiding and not revealing themselves, and there may be officials deliberately letting the thief go. Divination on travel suggests proceeding slowly; rushing may lead to fire or water disasters. Divination on a traveler's return indicates a late arrival, with news received first. Divination on legal disputes indicates that our side will not win, and the opposing side will also suffer financial loss. Divination on military matters suggests caution against the enemy's false displays and hidden ambushes, and advises fortifying positions and clearing the countryside to wait for them.
The "Bi Fa Fu" says, "Both the day stem and day branch are in a state of decline and disorder": when both the day stem and day branch are in the position of bathing and decline, it indicates a weakening of vitality and energy for the self, and for a residence, it suggests the collapse of buildings. At such a time, one must especially avoid exposing others' private matters, for doing so will inevitably lead to the exposure of one's own faults, with both sides being revealed at the same time. It also says, "The host and guest are not in harmony, and punishment is upon the superior": when the day stem is in the position of卯 and the day branch is in the position of子, the two superior spirits form the punishment of impropriety; during negotiations, both parties have conflicting intentions, and litigation will result in mutual defeat. The "Feng Hou Yuan Jing" states: when the superior spirit on the day branch is the birth of the superior spirit on the day stem, and the two spirits also mutually punish each other, the information obtained is half true and half false; during the day, the situation is deceptive and unreliable, and eventually both armies reach an agreement. The "Zhi Zhang Fu" says: when the superior spirit on the large吉 (Chou) and the small吉 (Wei) is Gou Chen, it indicates disputes over land.
On the Bingyin day, the fourth layout: stem on寅
This lesson's "Lesson Pattern" is "Hao Shi," combined with "Yuan Tai," "Long De," and "Bu Bei." "Hao Shi" means that among the four lessons there are no direct attacks or conflicts, only remote and indirect influences, like using straw arrows that cannot harm anyone. The "Lesson Meaning" says: Just as holding a bow without an arrow, the matter is merely a gradual development; by ignoring this false sense of danger and doubt, there will be a divine spirit above to support me.
The heavenly god is only indirectly and remotely attacking the day stem, and the initiating transmission god has fallen into the empty period. This is like holding a bow but losing the arrow. The final transmission, through a series of movements, impulsively affects the empty亥 water to attack the day stem, but this is merely a false display and a doubtful scare, not worth fearing. The wealth in the middle transmission is certainly not to be taken. Fortunately, the day branch god comes to support the day stem, and if it remains quiet and stays, it is auspicious.
This is the "Hao Shi" hexagram, also called "Yuan Tai," because the three transmissions originate from the four young lands of寅, 申, 巳, and 亥. However, the useful god falls into kongwang, indicating instability in matters and confusion in human relations. When divining about someone coming to the door with a request, the host and guest may appear harmonious on the surface, but there is secretly some loss or damage. Someone coming from outside should not be received. One should also beware of disputes and legal troubles coming from the southwest direction. Elderly people and children receiving this hexagram are considered a good omen. If the matter is divined during the year, month, or hour of亥, the matter will succeed.
Divination for weather: prolonged rain will eventually clear, while prolonged dry weather may bring rain, but it will not be heavy. Divination for the household: it is favorable for the elderly and children, but the female members of the family are not harmonious. Divination for marriage: it is auspicious if divined at night, and the matter can be settled, but the bride should enter the family later. Divination for pregnancy: be careful of miscarriage, but the mother will be safe. Divination for illness: the illness is not serious but difficult to recover from completely; women may suffer prolonged suffering and moaning, while the elderly and children will recover quickly. Divination for seeking wealth: there is no benefit, even if there is an opportunity, it is better not to take it. Divination for theft: the thief is in the southwest, and the stolen goods cannot be recovered. Divination for travel: going east is favorable. Divination for a traveler: the person is on the way, and there will be a false alarm. Divination for lawsuits: there will be confusion, worry, and doubt, but eventually it will be resolved and not cause harm. Divination for warfare: there are signs of expanding territory and defeating the enemy; however, the useful god is in an empty position, so it is advisable to be cautious and observe changes to avoid losing the people's support; especially in the first, fifth, and ninth months, one should not act rashly, and using reverse tactics can also lead to the defection of enemy officials.
The "Bifa Fu" has four lines that apply to this situation: "The other party seeks my affairs, with the branch transmitting to the stem." The three transmissions go from the day branch to the day stem, indicating that the other party is seeking me. "Mutual generation brings benefit to all matters," meaning both sides mutually generate each other, so all affairs are beneficial. "The ghost rides the nobleman, indicating divine interference," meaning the official ghost is riding the nobleman, suggesting supernatural interference. "The azure dragon joins the life qi, bringing good fortune slowly," meaning the azure dragon is placed on top of the life qi, indicating that good fortune will come, but slowly. The "Ke Jing" says this is called the "Jusheng Ge," meaning that the heavenly stem on the day stem generates the day stem, and the heavenly stem on the day branch generates the day branch; both are at the stage of growth, indicating harmony between both sides, which is favorable for partnership in one's own business. Furthermore, when the day branch is transmitted to the day stem and generates the day stem, it is also called the "Zizai Ge."
On the Bingyin day, fifth arrangement: the stem is on Chou.
The lesson pattern of this divination is "Chong Shen" (Re-examination), combined with "Yan Shang" (Inflammation Ascending), "Zhan Guan" (Cutting the Gate), and "Jiao Tong" (Cunning Boy). The four lines of the lesson meaning explain that the first transmission is戌, which is the storage of fire, while the final transmission is寅, which is the growth of fire. The transmission moves from storage to growth, just like a person who first becomes confused and then regains clarity. However, the day stem and the day branch each exert mutual punishments, resulting in the complete absence of harmony.
The first transmission is戌, which is the storage for丙 fire. The final transmission is寅, which is the growth for丙 fire. Moving from storage to growth indicates a transition from confusion to clarity. The matter should be guarded against a renewed occurrence, and illness should be watched for a possible recurrence.寅 harms the巳 on the day stem, and丑 harms the戌 on the day branch. The day and the辰 are in mutual conflict, leaving no room for harmony.丑 is the odd number of the Jiazi cycle, now appearing at the beginning of the four lessons. In a divination about official rank, this suggests a position of the first rank, indicating a nobleman standing in court. For ordinary people, it can also help to dispel bad influences.
This hexagram indicates excessive fire energy, with a tendency towards wild and uncontrollable flames, like a fire spreading out of control. Surface matters may turn into hidden affairs, leading to efforts that are wasted and wishes that are unfulfilled. Those born in the Year of the Rabbit (Mao) will encounter a nobleman ascending to a high position, gaining great authority. However, they should be cautious of their impulsive and overly strong nature, and must learn to be tolerant to avoid harm. For other types of divination, the outcome is mostly empty rather than substantial.
Divination for weather: it is already hot in the morning, with mist and lightning, even if it rains, the rain is light. Divination for crops: drought is present, but there is still some harvest in low-lying areas. Divination for the household: beware of fire and candles; if divined during the day, there is a possibility of servants deceiving the master and acting secretly. Divination for official rank: one may gain a prominent reputation, but it is empty and not substantial. Divination for seeking wealth: it will not be fulfilled. Divination for marriage: the man and woman have chosen each other on their own, without the need for a matchmaker; there is another interpretation, which starts with the Heavenly Empress and ends with Liu He, called 'Excessive Woman Pattern,' which is most ominous. Divination for pregnancy: beware of not being able to raise the child; if the pregnancy is from an affair, the child is more likely to survive. Divination for illness: it is a heat condition with constipation, new illnesses can be treated with rituals and prayers, and can be cured, but chronic illnesses are dangerous, even if recovered, there is a risk of recurrence. Divination for lost items: it is stolen by a servant. Divination for travel: it is favorable to go east and by land, and if a servant seeks to join a powerful family, it is favorable to go north. Divination for a traveler: if the day stem's storage is adjacent to the day branch and initiates the transmission, if the traveler is a servant or a younger relative, he will arrive within this ten-day period. Divination for lawsuits: one should seek the help of a powerful person to mediate. Divination for warfare: the general is of high rank and great merit, but still needs to be cautious, not to fall for the enemy's bait, in order to resolve the worries.
The "Bifa Fu" has four lines that apply to this situation: "Respect and honor appear in the three transmissions when encountering the three marvels," meaning that if the three transmissions contain the upper marvel, it indicates a high status; "Difficulties first, then ease, as the tomb god comes out first and the life god follows later," meaning that the tomb god appears first and the life god later, thus difficulties come first and ease follows; "The day stem and tomb are combined with the gate god, causing people and houses to decline," meaning that the day stem's tomb and the gate god are combined, leading to the decline of people and houses; "Harmony contains evil, like砒霜 in honey," meaning that harmony contains evil, like砒霜 in honey. The "Xiu Zhong Jin" says: When Hekui (Xu) is on the day branch and the middle transmission is occupied by the white tiger, this is called "cutting the gate," which allows for decisive action and is favorable for fleeing. The "Guan Jing Xiang" says: In the Jiazi and Jiaxu decades, the great good (Chou) is considered the extraordinary marvel of the decade; obtaining it brings harmony in all matters and quickly resolves all kinds of disasters.
On the Bingyin day, sixth section: the heavenly stem is on the zi branch.
This lesson's "Lesson Pattern" is "Zhi Yi", combined with "Si Jue" and "Du E"; "Si Jue" means all four lessons are in the position of absolute decline. The "Lesson Meaning" consists of four lines, which state that both the other party and oneself are suffering misfortunes; the three transmissions are all heavenly stems being overcome by earthly branches, called "external conflict," indicating discord within and outside; the day stem and day branch are each sitting on a storage position, leading to confusion and obscurity, making it impossible to clearly distinguish right from wrong.
The day stem is being overcome by water, and the day branch is harmed by metal, so both the self and the other party suffer misfortune. All three transmissions are instances where the heavenly plate spirits are overcome by the earthly plate, indicating an ill omen of external conflict; furthermore, the transmissions successively overcome the spirit on top of the day stem, so one should beware of being bullied by others. The snake (si) is sitting on the dog (xu), and the tiger (yin) is sitting on the sheep (wei), which means the self is entering a storage place, willingly remaining in darkness, where right and wrong cannot be distinguished. The day stem is at the beginning of the ten-day cycle, and the day branch is at the end. The first transmission generates the final transmission, which in turn generates the day stem, and the spirit of the day branch generates the spirit of the day stem, from which the transmission originates. This is called "inviting a ghost to be a benefactor": following the proper path has no fault, but if one is greedy and acts improperly, regret will follow.
The hexagram "Zhi Yi" indicates that seeking official positions and consulting important people is favorable. However, there is inner anxiety and uncertainty, and there is disharmony among people. Fortunately, the term "Chen" serves both as the day stem's ten-day cycle odd number and the day branch's ten-day cycle ritual, and it is precisely located on the hidden spirit of the day stem and day branch. The term "Zi" is the ten-day cycle ritual and is located above the day stem. These factors can transform misfortune into good fortune and turn difficulties into blessings.
Divination on weather indicates frequent rain and little sunshine. Divination on the household suggests that both people and the house are in the墓 position, with nearby graves or temples. The酉 is on the寅, indicating that the family's elders may suffer misfortune. Divination on exams suggests success in high rankings. Divination on marriage indicates harmony between husband and wife, but beware that both elders and younger generations may be unhappy. Divination on seeking wealth suggests great gains, but beware of disputes arising from wealth. Divination on illness indicates that children are not auspicious, likely due to supernatural disturbances or fright, which should be appeased. Elderly people, although sick, will recover easily. Divination on visiting suggests that host and guest will suddenly meet, leading to an unexpected fright. Divination on losing things suggests that the lost item may be metal or dropped into water, worth searching for. Divination on travel suggests slow movement is advisable. Divination on a traveler's arrival suggests a late arrival. Divination on legal disputes suggests the matter arises from peers or similar people, and reconciliation is advisable. Divination on military matters suggests the general is in command and planning, and should send a surprise force to win. Divination on career prospects suggests caution against being impeached by the censors or examination departments.
The Three Laws of the "Bi Fa Fu" apply to this situation: "Within a ten-day cycle, the beginning and end are both present," meaning both the start and the end of the cycle are included in the divination; "Both person and dwelling sit on a墓 (mound), which invites darkness and obscurity," indicating that both the person and their dwelling are in a state of decline, leading to a gloomy situation; "Both the day stem and day branch are harmed, causing damage at both ends," meaning both the day stem and day branch are injured, resulting in losses on both sides. The "Guan Jing Xing" states: the upper three elements press down upon the lower ones, and the smaller end will inevitably be oppressed and unable to rise—officials and ghosts appear in the first transmission, the second is descendants, and the third is parents, which is unfavorable for children. The "Xiu Zhong Jin" says: when the beginning of the six-jia cycle appears in the first transmission, this is called "Yi Shen Fa Yong"; if the final transmission is also accompanied by a favorable general, then the entire divination is auspicious from beginning to end.
On the Bingyin day, seventh arrangement, the heavenly stem is on the亥 position.
This lesson's "Lesson Pattern" is "No Dependence," combined with "Original Fetus," "Comparison and Use," and "Observation of Subtleties." "No Dependence" is another name for "Reverse Chant," where the heavenly and earthly deities exchange positions, leaving nothing to rely on. The four lines of "Lesson Meaning" explain that the four lessons interact in pairs, and the six harmonies intersect, appearing closely entangled. However, truly harmonious results may still be beneficial. Yet, the moral deity, official deity, official ghost, and wealth lines come and go without settling down.
The four lessons interact in pairs, and theLiu He also connect in the middle. Then the virtue god comes to respond, so if things are really accomplished, there may be some benefit. However, the virtue god, the禄 god, the official ghost, and the wealth爻 move around unpredictably; whether good or bad, it's hard to judge. If the official ghost is in the empty亡, it can't harm people. Only when the official ghost is combined with the day branch or the three transmissions, and the original birth year lacks a god to restrain it, does it become harmful.
This is a "no support" divination, where the twelve spirits have each moved to the opposite positions, leaving nothing to rely on. Those who wish to leave are unable to, while those who return find themselves unable to stay. Moreover, both the yang and yin spirits of the day stem have fallen into kongwang, meaning any action taken will bring no benefit. At this time, one should only remain calm to stabilize the situation and handle affairs with propriety. Those who divinate in the third, fourth, ninth, and tenth months may find this slightly better, but good fortune still hides a dangerous omen.
Divination about the weather shows that whether it is sunny or rainy has no constant pattern. Divination about official career suggests caution against being impeached; if one submits strategies, it may even lead to being reprimanded. Divination about the family home mainly indicates moving or renovating, with the residence near a major road. Divination about marriage shows disputes between the two families, with the matchmaker running back and forth. Divination about pregnancy warns against miscarriage. Divination about seeking wealth indicates gaining and then losing, along with disputes. Divination about illness shows alternating cold and heat; if the official ghost falls empty, recovery can be quick, but one should still beware of recurrence. Divination about loss or theft suggests the thief is hard to catch. Divination about travel indicates going somewhere nearby but returning, while long-distance travel is unfavorable in the first, fifth, and ninth months. Divination about a traveler shows instability on the way or encountering obstacles. Divination about legal disputes suggests the other party is cunning and changeable; if one spends more effort in explanation and communication, the matter can be resolved easily. Divination about military matters suggests it is favorable to put down weapons, rest, and remain inactive.
The Four Books say: "When the branches and stems are at their extremes, all plans should be decisively concluded." Both the heavenly stems and earthly branches are at their extremes, so any plan should be decisively ended. "When the official ghost is riding the nobleman, it is a divine disturbance." The official ghost is riding the nobleman, indicating supernatural interference. "When both the branches and stems are completely injured, beware of mutual loss." Both the person and the dwelling are harmed. "When there is mutual suspicion, harm follows." There is mutual suspicion between the two parties. The Six Yin Mirror says: "Without support is reverse chant; the person who has fled should be pursued far away." When the positions are in perfect harmony, they should be separated; even a peaceful nest should be moved to another forest. Officials should be transferred, and friends should part ways. The Golden Treasure in the Sleeve says: "When punishment, clash, destruction, and harm are all present, matters always involve two sides." The Essentials say: "This is an image of heaven and earth being separated and blocked, with north and south opposing each other. When action is taken, it is suitable; when still, it is disturbed. This indicates two matters, which require the useful god to be prosperous and strong." It also says: "Uncertainty and instability, when predicting illness, indicates two concurrent diseases." This lesson is also called the "Conclusion at Extremes Pattern." If the day's nobleman is present, it is most suitable to report the bad matter to the nobleman for resolution.
On the Bingyin day, the eighth arrangement: the stem is on the戌 position.
This lesson's "Lesson Pattern" is "Comparison and Use," combined with "Multiplying the Chariot," "Casting the Seal," and "Observing the Subtle." The four sentences of "Lesson Meaning" state that the spirit of the tomb is squeezed between two Teng Snakes, called "Two Snakes Surrounding the Tomb"; there is someone in the family who is cursed and slandered; when examining the three transmissions carefully, there is not a single good point to be found.
TheTomb Spirit is covering the day stem, and in front and behind it is enclosed by two Teng Snakes, which makes the situation both obscure and dangerous. The Tian Kong is on巳, indicating that servants are cursing the head of the household at the stove, or the stove itself is broken. The three transmissions and four lessons are either empty or disconnected, so there is no benefit at all. Note that the stove being broken can only be determined if Tian Kong is on巳 and is being overcome. The servants' curses can only be determined if the Wu (戌)Tomb Spirit is encountered.
This hexagram indicates a dark dwelling and confused people, with good and bad mixed together, and constant deceit and disturbances. Fortunately, the three transmissions fall into kongwang, which is just a false alarm. Seeking official positions or visiting important people is uncertain. At this time, one should calm down and be patient, and when encountering strange events, treat them as if they were not strange. Accumulate some yin virtue, and secretly receive the protection of the divine. Over time, the凶 will dissipate and good will come.
Divination on weather: the sky is gloomy and dark, with haze everywhere, and it will take a long time before it clears up. Divination on the household: the servants are secretly cursing, the stove is broken without reason; also indicating that the house is near a temple or graveyard, and the windows are dim. Divination on marriage: husband and wife are harmonious, and the family business will be successful. Divination on pregnancy: it is a girl, but there is fear that she may not survive at birth. Divination on official rank: the path is difficult and not smooth, and the wish will not be fulfilled. Divination on seeking wealth: you gain it but then lose it. Divination on trade: you can agree but cannot complete the deal. Divination on visiting officials: you go in vain. Divination on illness: there is upward qi reversal and vomiting; take pills. Divination on escape: the person will return by themselves. Divination on hunting: it is difficult to catch. Divination on travel: you cannot leave. Divination on a traveler: he will arrive soon. Divination on lawsuits: the other party uses many tricks. Divination on burial: the omen is favorable, beneficial to descendants, and can bring wealth.
The "Bifa Fu" has two lines that apply to this situation: "Two Teng Snakes enclosing the tomb are unavoidable for misfortune," meaning that the tomb spirit is caught between two Teng Snakes, and misfortune cannot be avoided; "The heavenly stem and earthly branch both ride the tomb, causing confusion and daze," meaning that both the day stem and day branch are associated with the tomb, leading to confusion and dullness in both the person and the dwelling. The "Ke Jing" says that when the tomb spirit covers the day branch, both the person and the dwelling become dull and confused, like walking through fog, and all divinations are unsatisfactory. The "Gu Jian" records a case: on the day of Bingyin in the sixth month of the year Wushen, the earth branch was placed on the寅, and the divination was about the person's fate. Both the day stem and day branch carried the tomb ghost and transmitted the three transmissions, which eventually returned to the day stem. The dead spirit of the sixth month was in the戌, and it was enclosed by two Teng Snakes in front and behind, accompanied by a confusing evil spirit. It was concluded that there was a corpse causing trouble. The official ghost entered the yao of the dwelling's hidden spirit and returned to the day stem, gradually invading the person's body. Although the middle transmission had life energy, it was overcome by death energy and transformed into a ghost, so it was predicted that the person would die at the hour of Wei in the year and month of Xu. Later, the prediction was fully verified. Upon investigation, it was found that when the house was built and the foundation was dug, more than ten ancient tombs were dug up.
