Charting guides: Da Liu Ren Chart Calculator, Jin Kou Jue Chart

This lesson pattern is characterized as re-examination, ascending fire, cutting the gate, and cultivating virtue. The interpretation states that the three transmissions transform into wealth, which then becomes a ghost; do not lick the honey on the blade. During the day, the White Tiger is riding on Wuxu, which intensifies misfortune. The explanation is that the three transmissions form a fire pattern, originally representing wealth for the day stem; however, it generates and strengthens the earth element of the day stem's hexagram, which in turn harms the day stem. This is why wealth turns into a ghost. The small amount of honey on the blade, where can you lick it from? Moreover, the combination of Wu and Xu represents two layers of ghosts, and the White Tiger further injures the day stem, making misfortune very severe. One should therefore anticipate potential troubles and take precautions in advance.

The interpretation states: This divination shows a fire nature that rises upward. Below it there is harmony, but above there is punishment. Although there is a triple harmony and a liu he (mutual support) between them, the three transmissions lead step by step to the emergence of ghosts. Therefore, it is only suitable to go with wealth to seek the nobleman or to donate grain and rice in order to seek official rank. If asking about wealth, it will certainly cause disputes. The earth element of wei is riding on tai yin (a heavenly general associated with secrecy and concealment) and is placed on hai, indicating matters concerning the marriage of a child.

On weather: The three transmissions form a fiery upward pattern, the Tiangang points to the yang position, indicating extremely clear skies with no rain. On the household: If the divination is cast during the day, legal matters are extremely unfavorable; if cast at night, there will be good fortune and joy from wealth entering the house. On officialdom: The god promoting officialdom serves as the initiating transmission, which is most favorable for official matters. On seeking wealth: It is suitable to obtain money from women's private funds. On marriage: Divination during the day is unfavorable, but divination at night is favorable. On pregnancy and childbirth: The lower deity is strong while the upper deity is weak, indicating a female fetus; the fetal deity also meets the Liu He, which is favorable for pregnancy but unfavorable for childbirth. On illness: The kidney water is greatly deficient, and it is necessary to restrain the earth energy to nourish the water energy, making recovery difficult. On lost items: If the divination is cast at night and the wealth element is occupied by the Black Tortoise, it is certain that the item was stolen by a thief. On travel: Traveling by land is unfavorable, and traveling by water is even worse. On travelers: The Tiangang is placed on the fourth young position, indicating that the person has not yet started their journey. On warfare: Divination during the day is unfavorable, but divination at night is favorable.

The *Bifa Fu* says: When the White Tiger is on the hidden stem ghost爻, calamity is severe; when Triple Harmony and Liu He are both present, all matters bring joy; if the host and guest cannot agree, the root cause lies in the two gods being in conflict. The *Shenyingsheng* says: When戌 is placed on寅, the Azure Dragon becomes a ghost爻; if one's birth year and current year are both寅, then seeking promotion or transfer will succeed, and the expected time is on Gengxu day. The *Zanyi* says: When午 is placed on戌 and also carries the Heavenly Empress, it indicates a woman will suffer from consumption and will not recover. The *Kuanang Fu* says:戌 is the White Tiger, indicating disturbance from dogs. The *Zhipang Fu* says: The trinity of戌,午, and寅 is called "Zao" (dryness), and actions conform to the middle way.

On the Renyin day, sixth arrangement, the stem is in the morning.

This lesson pattern is called Re-examination, with Six Instruments and Four Extremes. The interpretation says: relying on wealth to seek profit, only hinders livelihood; divining for superiors brings misfortune, as if willingly inviting confusion and blockage. The explanation is: the fire of Wu is the day's wealth element, located on the day stem and acting as the initiating transmission, generating through successive steps to the final transmission of Shen metal. Shen is the long life and life qi of Ren water, which should be beneficial to Ren. Unfortunately, Shen is occupied by the White Tiger, and is also overcome by Wu fire and contained by Chou earth in the storage, ultimately becoming useless. Therefore, using wealth to seek profit only hinders livelihood. Divining for superiors brings misfortune, while divining for livelihood causes obstacles. Moreover, both the day stem and day branch are sitting on the storage, mutually draining and deteriorating, which is precisely willingly inviting confusion and stagnation.

The interpretation states: A lesson of four extremes indicates a situation of separation and resolution, suitable only for concluding past matters. The first transmission is sandwiched between two forces and is under attack, indicating that financial matters are not under one's control. The combination of Wu and You creates mutual conflict, forming the Four Victory Evil Star, suggesting a stubborn and self-willed nature. If the lesson is cast in the seventh month, it indicates that the wife is already pregnant.

On weather: the fire of the hour of Wu serves as the initiating transmission, and through successive generations it comes to birth the day stem, indicating clear weather. On the household: the broken spirit is present on the day branch and also overcomes the house爻, so the house will inevitably suffer damage. On officialdom: the three transmissions successively generate each other, indicating that someone will recommend a person. On seeking wealth: the wealth爻 is on the self, so wealth will come without seeking. On marriage: the day branch and day stem clash, indicating an unfavorable omen for marriage. On pregnancy: a female fetus is carried, and the delivery will be delayed. On illness: the liver and lung meridians are injured, but the illness can be cured. On travel: during the night, there is a risk of loss or theft. On a person on the way: the Tiangang is placed on the four central positions, indicating that the person is still on the way. On warfare: the military authority is not in one's own hands, and the army will not be at peace.

The "Bifa Fu" says: If the first transmission is trapped and subjected to conflict, the matter is beyond one's control; if the host and guest cannot agree, the root cause lies in the conflict between the two heavenly stems. The "Gujian" records: Using the hour of Chen as the month general and starting the divination at the hour of You to inquire about the future, the practitioner said: The壬 water takes the申 metal as its father, and since the申 is located on the丑, it falls into the grave; above it there is the White Tiger, indicating that the bones of ancestors in the grave are eaten by termites. The day stem has the午 fire as the wife, and the午 also represents the eyes; below it is water that overcomes it, indicating the wife suffers from eye disease. The丑 represents land, and the午 represents the house; since the午 is overcome by water, the house must be damaged; the丑 comes after the午 and is generated by the午, meaning the house is torn down and converted into land. The酉 metal on the dwelling爻 is both a declining and broken element, indicating that both men and women in the family will be ruined by wine and lust. Later, it indeed came true.

On the day of Renyin, the seventh arrangement: the stem is on Si.

"Lesson Pattern" refers to the overall structure type of a divination lesson. This case combines three patterns: "Reverse Chant" (Heaven Plate deities and Earth Plate each conflict with one another, indicating unpredictable human affairs), "Original Fetus" (the vital energy is just beginning to emerge, having form but no substance), and "Encouraging Virtue" (the Nobleman is located in the卯 or酉 position, indicating that a gentleman can achieve success only by striving to cultivate virtue, while common people will often be stingy and reluctant). "Lesson Meaning" is a four-character rhyming summary that outlines the overall fortune and misfortune of the case. In this case, the summary indicates: money is merely a nominal figure, eventually dissipating; both coming and going are met with the atmosphere of theft and leakage; the Day Stem and Day Branch, along with the two upper deities, appear to be mutually harmonious on the surface, seeming very harmonious; however, the two Noblemen of day and night are both restrained, meaning that relying on the Nobleman to accomplish tasks will ultimately come to nothing.

The day stem is Ren, which belongs to water. The fire in Si is overcome by the water of Ren, which is the wealth hexagram of the day stem. Now, Si is located in the empty position of the ten-day cycle and is placed directly above the day stem, so wealth is merely an empty shell and a futile expenditure. The wood in Yin steals the energy of the water of Ren, which is the thief god of this day. In the three transmissions (the first, middle, and final transmissions, the three stages of divination), both the first and final transmissions are Yin, meaning the source and destination are both blocked by the thief's energy. Looking at the day branch, which is Yin, the water of Ren is temporarily located in Hai. Yin and Hai form a harmonious relationship. The upper god above the day stem is Si, and the upper god above the day branch is Shen, which also form a harmonious relationship, showing a very harmonious appearance. However, Yin and Si are in a harmful relationship, and Hai and Shen are also in a harmful relationship, indicating more hidden damage. Additionally, the nobleman of day and night are both sitting in positions that control the day stem, so any requests or appeals will certainly lack support.

The interpretation states: This is a "Moyue lesson" (the first transmission jumps over the day stem and day branch, with an unrelated deity suddenly initiating the transmission, making the matter come abruptly). The initiating transmission is also the寅 wood, which steals the energy of the day stem. If the divination is done in the daytime, losses such as theft or disappearance are difficult to avoid; if done at night, there will be worries concerning the younger generation or servants. However, as long as one can hold onto what they have and not let go easily, the寅 wood in the first and final transmissions can actually generate and support the巳 fire wealth爻 that was previously ineffective on the day stem. In the school of壬, this situation is called "taking back a soul debt" — originally thinking a debt was lost, in the end it is reclaimed.

Heavenly Weather: Reverse Chant indicates reversal. If it is sunny and one divines that it will rain, or if it is rainy and one divines that it will clear up, the prediction is accurate. For a residence: if divined during the day, there will be harmonious and joyful events such as marriage or wedding among the elders in the family; if divined at night, the elders should be cautious of illness and legal disputes. For official career: both the Nobleman and the Official Star fall into the旬空, which is inauspicious for seeking official rank. For seeking wealth: the wealth爻 has already fallen into the旬空, so further business endeavors will not be beneficial. For marriage: divining during the day is favorable, but divining at night is unfavorable. For pregnancy and childbirth: the lower deity is strong while the upper deity is weak, indicating a female fetus; within the harmonious relationship there is also a breaking aspect, so both pregnancy and childbirth will proceed smoothly.

Disease: Divination in the daytime shows the White Tiger riding on the metal element of Shen. The metal element is thus able to overcome the wood element, indicating the illness affects the liver meridian. The illness energy then turns back to support the patient, causing the illness to be persistent and not easily cured. Travel: Divination in the daytime suggests traveling by water is favorable; however, divination at night indicates that neither water nor land routes are auspicious. Traveler: The Tiangang (Chen) is placed on the positions of the four seasons of the earth elements (Chen, Xu, Chou, Wei), indicating that the traveler will arrive very soon. Capture of thieves: The thief god is Shen metal. The thief is hiding at the crossroads in the village or near the驿站 and stable. The family involved has a craftsman who works with metal and stone. Military: Both sides are mutually exhausting each other, and there is no clear advantage to be gained.

The "Bifa Fu" says: When the upper and lower parts are in harmony, both sides have the same mind; two noblemen are restrained, and they wish to seek help from noblemen but their affairs will not succeed; the initiating transmission is broken, and one's family and personal affairs have nowhere to rest. The "Lun Yin Yao Lian" says: On a Renyin day, the reverse chant lesson occurs, the day stem and day branch are both in the state of absolute depletion, it is only suitable to use this lesson to conclude and settle financial matters, or to make an end of old requests to noblemen; it is especially unsuitable to divinate illness for one's wife, because the wife's wealth is in the empty period and also meets the state of depletion, when encountering this lesson, illness is difficult to recover. The "Sancai Fu" says: When the White Tiger and the transmission (the general name for the metal of the Sheng hour) are both present at the gate, one must beware of illness. The "Tian Guan Fu" says: When the Yuanwu (one of the twelve heavenly generals, governing thieves and secret affairs) is in the寅 position, it is called "Entering the Forest," thieves who break walls and windows are thriving; when the Teng Snake (one of the twelve heavenly generals, governing fear and strange occurrences) is in the寅 position, it is called "Growing Horns," the snake general transforms into a dragon, and matters will escalate from small to great.

On the Renyin day, the eighth layout: the stem is on the辰 (Chen) position.

This lesson pattern is "Zhi Yi" (among the four lessons there are two repetitions, only one is taken and the other is discarded, the matter concerns people of the same kind) and "Zhang Guan" (when the Chen and Xu are combined with the day stem and branch, it is favorable for breaking through barriers and moving suddenly). The lesson meaning says: the tomb god covers the person's body and also the house; the wealth yao is ruined, the wife is lost; during the day, the Yangren and the White Tiger appear; the middle transmission's巳 fire is most afraid of the Zi water below and the Xu earth above pressing from both sides.

The explanation says: Chen is the storage for Ren water, and now it is placed on top of the day stem, which is called the burial deity covering the body. Wei is the storage for Yin wood, and now it is placed on top of the day branch Yin wood (in Six Rats, "Chen" often refers to the day branch), which is called the burial deity covering the house. The middle transmission's Si fire is the wife and wealth of the day stem. Below it is the first transmission's Zi water — Zi is the Yangren of Ren day, and during the day it is ridden by the White Tiger — being overcome by it; above it is the final transmission's Xu earth, which is exactly the storage for Si fire, containing it; and Si itself is precisely in the empty period. Therefore, wealth is certainly lost and the wife is certainly lost, which is why the lesson says Si fire fears Zi and Xu.

The interpretation says: Knowing one lesson where both the middle transmission and the final transmission fall into the empty period, it indicates an affair with a beginning but no end. If the divination is done in the daytime, the White Tiger is on the Zi water, as the White Tiger belongs to metal and Zi belongs to water, metal and water share the same energy, so misfortune will occur in this line. If the divination is done at night, Tai Chang (one of the twelve heavenly generals, governing banquets and food and drink) rides on the Wei earth to injure the day stem, so illness is mostly caused by attending banquets and drinking. The Heavenly Empress (one of the twelve heavenly generals, governing women's private affairs) rides on the tomb god Chen earth and comes upon the day stem, indicating confusion and disorder in human affairs, which is mostly caused by women. Fortunately, the final transmission Xu earth rides on the Azure Dragon to break the Chen tomb, so there should be parents or elders stepping in to enlighten the person and wake them from confusion.

Heavenly weather: The earth deity of the tomb, the earth dog, covers the day stem, and water vapour accumulates above, with the azure dragon, which belongs to wood, coming to control the earth energy of the day stem, indicating rain. For the residence: The white tiger rides on the water of the zi branch, stealing the energy of the day branch, so there may be an infestation of termites in the house. For career: The final transmission, the azure dragon, breaking the tomb storage is a good sign, but it still needs to wait until the nobleman's deity arrives in the daytime and fills the kongwang, before things can truly succeed. For seeking wealth: The wealth爻 has already fallen empty, so seeking wealth is of no benefit. For marriage: The day stem and day branch each have the tomb deity, indicating an unfavorable omen for marriage.

Fetus and childbirth: The lower deity is strong while the upper deity is weak, indicating a female fetus. Disease: The fire of the fourth earthly branch (Si) belongs to the heart, so the illness is in the heart meridian, causing the person to be confused and dazed. Additionally, encountering the "six pieces of凶board" (Liu He with Shen added on Mao, forming a凶pattern like the body approaching wood or entering a coffin), the illness is likely difficult to recover from. Only those with water in their destiny or current year have a chance of survival. Travel: Traveling by water is not auspicious, and traveling by land is even more inauspicious. Travelers: The Tiangang (Chen) is placed on the four young positions of寅,申,巳, and亥, indicating that those who are about to leave have not yet departed. Military affairs: There will be initial hardships, followed by eventual success.

The *Bifa Fu* says: When the day stem and day branch each take theTomb Spirit, both the person and the house are in darkness and confusion. The *Gujian* records an old case: A person born in the year Gengwu, on the day Renyin in the fifth month, with the hour Sheng and the branch Chou, consulted about the house. The interpreter said: Both the person and the house are buried in the墓, with extremely weak energy, and there will certainly be disputes among the servants. Later, the servant girl was indeed sent away. The reason is that the metal of You represents the servant girl, but You is not in the house position, but rather in theYin Spirit position of the day stem, so it indicates she will leave. However, You combines with Chen, so on the day Jiachen, she should return. Moreover, there is often trouble from brothers, because the branch Zi and Wei are in conflict (the original text mistakenly wrote 'Lei' instead of 'Wei', and Zi and Wei are in conflict), and it is also accompanied by the White Tiger. The *Zanyi* says: When theShenhou (Zi) (the general of Zi water) is placed on Wei, and during the night it is accompanied by theLiu He, it indicates that there are ghosts and spirits causing trouble in the house.

On the day of Renyin, the ninth division: the stem is on the卯 (Mao) position.

This lesson pattern is "Chong Shen" (the lower deity steals from the upper deity and is used as the initiating transmission; the matter needs to be carefully reconsidered) and "Qu Zhi" (the three transmissions form a wood pattern; its nature is like wood, which can be bent or straightened). The lesson meaning says: the day branch is occupied by the first character of the current ten-day cycle, and the day stem is occupied by the last character of the current ten-day cycle; such a lesson is not suitable for common people, but is disliked by officials. (In the original edition, "Meng" is a miswriting for "Yu," a common occurrence in this book, as noted below.)

The explanation says: On a Renyin day, the day belongs to the Jiawu decade. The午 (Wu) in the day branch is the first character of this decade, while the卯 (Mao) in the day stem is the last character of this decade. This is what the Ren book refers to as "the beginning and end meet, beginning and end are both favorable." All three transmissions are wood, which generates fire, thus greatly strengthening the fire wealth element in the day branch. Since wealth is strong, wood is also the offspring of the water壬 (Ren), and can restrain the official star. Therefore, common people would find this very favorable. However, officials most fear the appearance of the offspring element, as once the offspring moves, it will weaken the official star, causing damage to their career. How could they not deeply dislike such a divination?

The interpretation states: This is a lesson of curved and straight lines, indicating that the matter has multiple aspects. The day stem is in the position of卯 wood, which steals and drains the壬 water, and is also in the position of death qi; the day branch is in the position of午 fire, which drains the寅 wood and is also in the position of death qi. Both the person and the house are affected by death qi, which drains resources, indicating that the matter is certainly related to funerals or burials, with expenses occurring both inside and outside the family. Anyone who receives this lesson should only rest and maintain stability, and should not take any action or make plans. The three transmissions form a wood pattern that drains the day stem, but also supports the fire in the day branch. This indicates that large sums of money will be spent on building houses, repairing property, and managing family affairs.

Heavenly weather: The water mother god associated with rain and the酉 (You) host both fall into the旬空 (decade void), and the three transmissions form a curve and straight wood structure. Wood represents wind, so it will not rain but only blow wind. Residence: The fire wealth hexagram is directly on the residence position, and sits on the long life of the寅 (Yin) wood. Wood and fire mutually generate continuously, so the family is naturally prosperous. Career: The three transmissions' wood structure overcomes the official hexagram, which is not favorable for official career. Seeking wealth: Wealth is within the family residence, so there is no need to look outside. Marriage: The day branch and day stem are opposite each other, so it is feared that the marriage will not be successful. Pregnancy and childbirth: The lower god is strong and the upper god is weak, indicating a female fetus; the fetal god is on the long life, which is very favorable for pregnancy but very unfavorable for childbirth.

Disease: Wu fire belongs to the heart, so the illness arises in the heart meridian; it might also be a symptom of kidney water depletion. Travel: If divined during the day, it is not auspicious; if divined at night, both water and land routes are feasible. Traveler: Tiangang (Chen) is placed on the four central positions of Zi, Wu, Mao, and You, indicating the person is still on the way. Capture of thieves: If divined during the day, the thief is in Due South, belonging to a family that trades donkeys and horses; if divined at night, the thief is in the East, near a pond. Military: It is favorable for the main party to hold a position, but unfavorable for the distant guest party.

The "Bifa Fu" says: If the first and last characters of the current ten-day period are both present in the divination, the matter will proceed smoothly from beginning to end; if both the person and the house are sitting on death qi, both sides will be weak. The "Liu Ren Zhi Nan" records: In the Xinsi year, the twelfth lunar month, with the Chou general at You time, a divination was made for a Xu family regarding staying or leaving. The diviner said: The day stem and day branch both encountered death qi, which is exactly what is meant by "the person and the house are both dead and weak," so where would they stay? Thus the master withdrew to the north, and the next day the enemy soldiers arrived, and the city where the Xu family lived was indeed captured. The "Zuanyi" says: If Wu is placed on Yin and is accompanied by the Teng Snake, both the house and the neighbors will need to be on guard against fire, and this is especially accurate in spring. The "Zhi Zhang Fu" says: When Wei, Hai, and Mao form a wood trinity, it is called "following good fortune," and one should wait for the right time to act. The "Yun Xiao Fu" says: Hai is the heavenly gate, and Mao is the wooden door; when they meet, they are harmonious (referring to Mao and Hai). Wei is the fermented wine, and Hai is the original wine; when they are in harmony, they are convenient (referring to Wei and Hai).

On the day of Renyin, the tenth layout: the stem is on the寅.

This lesson's pattern is Chong Shen and Yuan Tai, with additional elements of "Bu Bei" (the four lessons are incomplete, lacking one lesson, indicating something is lacking) and "Zhu Xi" (the god of the day branch is added to the day stem, like a上门女婿, who is disrespectful to those above). The lesson's meaning states: the other's god is added to my side, and the final transmission adds another layer; although it forms the name of "San Hui" (three unions), there is actually no real benefit in the divination.

The day branch's寅wood is added to the day stem壬water, and the wood drains the water's energy, which is considered a theft and depletion of the day stem. The final transmission also contains another寅, further draining the energy, showing that there are multiple factors depleting the day stem. The寅added to壬is considered the first conjunction, the day branch寅hidden in the stem to produce壬is the second conjunction, and the寅in the final transmission hidden in the stem to produce壬is the third conjunction—this is called the 'three conjunctions.' However, the wealth element on the day branch is precisely falling into the empty period; the initiating transmission's申metal, although the long life of壬water, itself falls into the empty void and is also restrained. The middle transmission's亥is the禄神of壬water, but since it is a daytime divination with a bias, it is also riding on the sky void. Thus, although there is the name of three conjunctions, what practical benefit is there really?

The interpretation says: The name of the lesson is "Attached Son-in-law," indicating that the person below is oppressing the person above. The initiating transmission is the metal of Shen, which is in an empty and fallen position. Although Shen metal can generate water, it is merely named as generating but not actually doing so; the whole situation is full of emptiness and lacking in reality. This is a lesson of original essence, where the four long-life spirits of寅, 申, 巳, and 亥 continuously drain the vital energy of the day stem. Moreover, since the four lessons are not complete, the matter is likely to have leaks and disputes, and one should be cautious of changes occurring along the way.

Heavenly weather: The water mother indicating rain and the Azure Dragon both fall into the旬空, suggesting that rain may not come. For the residence: The Nobleman appears in the position of the house during the day, which is favorable for officials but may bring legal troubles for ordinary people. For career advancement: Both the Azure Dragon and the Nobleman fall into the旬空, making it unfavorable to seek official positions. For seeking wealth: The Azure Dragon falls into the旬空, and the wealth爻 is incomplete, so seeking wealth will not be beneficial.

Marriage: The wealth hexagram on the day branch is riding on Kongwang, indicating an unfavorable omen for marriage. Childbirth: The lower god is strong and the upper god is weak, indicating a female fetus; if the mother's energy is dominant and the fetus is strong, it is most suitable for childbirth. Illness: The illness occurs in the heart meridian, and it can be cured on the same day. Travel: Traveling by land should beware of losing property, while traveling by water is somewhat better. A missing person: The day stem and day branch form a triple conjunction, indicating that people far and near will return. Capturing thieves: The thief is hiding in a house of a nobleman in the east. Military: The side will be bullied by the enemy.

The *Bifa Fu* says: When there is mutual suspicion between the two, harmful influences follow one after another; when the Heavenly General and the god it rides upon fight each other, the affairs in question will be dangerous; although the Azure Dragon riding on Life Qi is a favorable omen, its fulfillment comes slowly (this refers to divination during the daytime of the ninth month). The *Ke Jing* says: When the Day Stem is occupied by the寅 wood, the wood drains the壬 water; the Heavenly General is also a water deity such as the Black Tortoise or Heavenly Empress, riding on the寅, which in turn drains the wood—this is called "Tuo Dao Ge," which means a double drainage. All divinations of this pattern indicate matters of deceit and theft. The *Shen Jiang Lun* says: When the申 is placed on the巳, theLiu He and the god it rides upon fight internally, indicating misfortune for the descendants. The *Zhaochan Miaoji* says: When stolen qi invades the position of the Azure Dragon, one should be cautious of thieves who come pretending to bring good news.

On the day of Renyin, the eleventh section: the stem is on Chou.

This lesson has the patterns of re-examination and cutting the gate, as well as "intermediate transmission" (three transmissions passed by one position, such as Chen, Wu, and Shen), "ascending to the three heavens" (Chen, Wu, and Shen ascending in order, indicating the matter reaching the upper level directly), "wayward woman" (unconventional matters between men and women), "solitary host" (a sign of being alone and without a match), and "heavenly net" (a net covering the head, indicating being restricted as soon as there is movement). The meaning of the lesson says: starting from theTomb Spirit, the transmission proceeds to the long life, indicating that the person being divined first feels confused and then becomes clear; if the person's birth year or the year of movement falls exactly on the卯, then the two noblemen of day and night will jointly promote the matter.

It is explained that Chen is the storage for Ren water and serves as the first transmission; Shen is the growth for Ren water and serves as the final transmission. This is called "rising from the storage to the growth," as the transmission moves from the storage to the growth. When a person asks a question and encounters such a sequence of three transmissions, they will initially be confused but eventually become clear. On a Ren day, Si is the daytime nobleman and Mao is the nighttime nobleman. Now Si is placed above Mao, so the daytime and nighttime noblemen are combined, which is called "day and night noblemen overlapping." If the person's birth day or current year falls exactly on the Mao position, they will certainly receive assistance from both the daytime and nighttime noblemen, and thus succeed in their affairs.

The interpretation states: When the initiating transmission falls into the empty period, nothing is certain. The official ghost and storage spirits are added upon the day stem and day branch, and at night they are accompanied by the Teng Snake, indicating fear of old corpses not being laid to rest within the household. Those who draw this divination generally experience difficulty followed by ease, hardship followed by sweetness.

Heavenly weather: The Azure Dragon rises to the heavenly position, and joins with the water mother, which governs rain, so rain is certain. Residence: The tomb god is present at the residence position, causing darkness and confusion within the house. Career: The official star is present at one's own position, the Azure Dragon joins with Heavenly Virtue, the禄神 (favorable official), and the Post-horse, so seeking official position is very auspicious. Wealth: The wealth element falls into an empty position, so seeking wealth is of no benefit. Marriage: The day branch has an empty tomb god, which is unfavorable for the female partner. Pregnancy: The fetal god falls into an empty position, which is unfavorable for pregnancy.

Disease: The spleen earth is injured and the kidney water is insufficient; the person's destiny is in reality but the disease spirit is in emptiness, so even without medicine it will heal by itself (the original text says 'not mouth' which is likely a mistake for 'not medicine'). Travel: The cutting gate divination is favorable for fleeing and avoiding danger, and ordinary travel is also smooth. Traveler: He is about to arrive, but there are still obstacles on the way. Capture of thieves: The thief is in the direction of due east, hiding near a graveyard or by a pond. Military: The Tiangang blocks the ghost gate, and the side with careful planning will win.

The *Bifa Fu* says: When the Tiangang (Chen) blocks the Ghost Gate, one may proceed freely with plans; when the Day Stem's墓 (burial) and the斩关 (cutting gate) appear at the same time, both person and dwelling will be abandoned (this refers to summer divination). The recorded verification: In the year Dingchou, in the eighth lunar month, someone came for a divination but refused to state the matter in question (the original text mistakenly wrote 'lechou' instead of 'dingchou'). The diviner said: This is a hidden nobleman close to the sovereign. The Master of Years, Tai Chang, and the official star all conjoin with the Day Stem. On top of the Day Stem's hidden spirit, the night nobleman appears, and is seated exactly on the Master of Years' position. This must be a princess requesting the court to grant her descendants official titles. Because the final transmission is the long life god of royal edicts, which rides the Liu He (Six Harmonies), and Liu He represents children. The person asked if it would be accurate. The diviner said: Unfortunately, the first and middle transmissions both fall into Kongwang (void), so two consultations are needed before the official titles can be granted. Later, it indeed turned out as he had predicted.

On the Renyin day, the twelfth layout: the heavenly stem is on the child branch.

This lesson pattern is a repeated review, with the three transmissions in sequential progression, such as from Chen to Si to Wu, each step following closely the previous one. It also involves Guasu. The meaning of the lesson states: moving forward, one encounters a vast emptiness and decay; retreating, there is a thief-like spirit waiting. Both the other party and oneself are unyielding, with pressure from both front and back, making it difficult to hold on whether advancing or retreating.

The three transmissions fall within the旬空, so they cannot move forward. If they retreat, they encounter寅wood and卯wood stealing the qi of壬water. Additionally,丑earth acts as the official ghost to restrain壬water. Therefore, one wishes to hold onto the旺子water on the day stem, but the卯wood on the day branch harms it through mutual conflict between子and卯. There is no way forward or backward, as there isKongwang ahead and脱鬼 behind.

The interpretation says: Entering the茹 lesson, there is a net in front, which is not suitable for reckless actions. The day stem is riding on the strong water of Zi, and the day branch is riding on the strong wood of Mao, which is called "mutual strength leads to prosperity," indicating that both sides benefit, and all plans will proceed smoothly. However, the day stem is occupied by the White Tiger during the day, so matters require careful consideration. The wealth god is in the empty and lost place, so those traveling or doing business will not be satisfied.

Heavenly weather: The day stem is covered by a heavenly net, the sun is obscured, indicating a situation of heavy clouds. Residence: There is mutual punishment between person and dwelling, indicating an unstable situation; a nobleman is added to the dwelling position at night, but ordinary people cannot bear it, and being covered by a net makes danger hard to avoid. Career: All three transmissions fall into kongwang, offering no practical help. Wealth: Both wealth signs are empty, so seeking wealth is useless. Marriage: The day branch and day stem mutually punish each other, indicating an unfavorable omen for marriage.

Taochan: Two Yangs with one Yin between them indicate a female fetus; the day branch and day stem are in conflict, causing harm to both mother and child. Disease: The卯 wood belongs to the liver and gallbladder, so the illness is related to the liver and gallbladder; it could also be symptoms of kidney deficiency. Travel: Traveling by land is dangerous, while traveling by water requires caution against losing belongings. Travelers: The Tiangang is positioned at the four intermediate directions, indicating the person is still on the way. Military: Being attacked from both front and back, efforts are wasted with no success.

The "Bifa Fu" says: When the three transmissions fall into empty voids in a progressing lesson, it is advisable to retreat; most endeavors will be clumsy, as one has collided with a net; if both the day stem and day branch are strong, it is best to sit and plan calmly; being pressed from both sides, one is in a dilemma of advance and retreat. The "Kijing" says: If one remains still, one can take advantage of the strength of the day stem and day branch; but if one acts recklessly, one will fall into the harm of heaven's net and the injury of yang ren. If further accompanied by凶将 (malevolent generals), the calamity will be even more severe. The "Zanyi" says: If the official ghost is initiated in the empty void of the hour, it will cause unnecessary hatred and fail to achieve fame, like holding a chicken that refuses to fight. The "Zhipang Fu" says: When the three transmissions fall into empty voids in succession, it is called "sound echoes in an empty valley" — only hearing the echo without seeing the object, retreat is auspicious, while advancement is not advisable.
