On the Guichou day, the eleventh section: dry branch over卯 (Mao)

Qing (清) · anonymous (佚名) · Volume 71 / 85

Charting guides: Da Liu Ren Chart Calculator, Jin Kou Jue Chart

The lesson pattern has five categories: besides the first, "incomplete" refers to the four lessons not being complete, with yin and yang missing, so the matter cannot be fully accomplished; "intermediate transmission" refers to the three transmissions being separated by one position (such as卯, 巳, 未), so the matter proceeds in stages with twists and turns; "cultivating virtue" refers to the nobleman standing at the positions of卯 and 酉, which are the months of February and August, implying the meaning of self-discipline and perseverance; "welcoming yang" refers to the gradual increase of yang energy in卯, 巳, and 未, moving forward in a direction of increasing yang. The lesson meaning says: one wants to rely on the nobleman and present one's case to him, but the matter ends up being weak and ineffective; the current wealth has already been lost, even if the transmission contains the spirit of Ding, it can do little to help. The commentary explains: the first transmission is on卯, occupied by the nobleman at night, the middle transmission is on巳, occupied by the nobleman in the day, and the final transmission is on未, closely following the nobleman's territory of巳. The classic says "the lesson and transmissions are all noble but have no support," meaning that the four lessons and three transmissions are all occupied by noblemen, yet none can be relied upon, indicating that the matter must be entrusted to many people. This is like a country with three ministers and nine shepherds among ten sheep, where orders do not come from one source and authority does not converge in one place. The fire of巳 is originally the wealth of the day stem, but since it has fallen into kongwang, it shows that the current available wealth is already unusable. Although the final transmission of未 has the spirit of Ding, it is accompanied by earth, which controls water and transforms into ghosts and spirits, so it can accomplish little.

The divination says: The main aspect of this reading is smooth and without fault. However, the name of the reading is "incomplete," indicating that the matter will certainly not be fully accomplished. Moreover, the卯 (Mao) is associated with death qi, and it also drains the qi of the day stem癸 (Gui water). This continuous draining is called the source being carried away and the branches being broken, causing all affairs to suffer damage in the dark, with all efforts wasted. Only monks and Taoist priests are suitable for this pattern. The nobleman is positioned at卯 (Mao) and酉 (You), which are the eighth positions of the gates, forming a pattern of moral cultivation. This indicates that the family will surely experience disturbances and changes. Any plans should be carried out quickly to bring good fortune; any delay will turn into misfortune, because this pattern corresponds to full yang, and when yang reaches its peak, it inevitably turns to its opposite.

Questioning the weather: The combination forms the Yingyang pattern, indicating clear skies. Questioning the household: The person's position and the house's position both ride on the Death Deity, so it is only suitable to keep calm and rest, not favorable for initiating new ventures or schemes. Questioning fame: All the positions are occupied by noblemen, yet the noble aura is not clearly shown, so seeking fame will not succeed. Questioning wealth: No gain can be obtained. Questioning marriage: The person's character is considered a good match, but this marriage may not be successful. Questioning childbirth: All four lessons and three transmissions are yin branches, but theFetal Spirit (fetus deity) is on a yang branch, indicating a male fetus, and the delivery will be smooth. Questioning illness: The illness affects the heart and kidney meridians; the day stem and day branch both ride on death qi, so a newly developed illness is not serious, but if prolonged, it will be dangerous. Questioning litigation: Although dangerous, it can still be resolved. Questioning travel: Both the day stem and day branch fall into kongwang, so it is uncertain whether one can actually depart, and even if one goes, there will be no profit. Questioning a traveler: The traveler is about to return. Questioning pursuit and capture: During the day, the direction is southeast; at night, it is due north. Questioning military affairs: There is an implicit risk of losing troops.

The "Bifa Fu" cites four lines: "When both the lesson and transmission are noble but have no support," meaning that when all the transmissions are noble, they become unanchored and ineffective. "When noble persons appear in both day and night," indicates that the noble persons in the day and night cycles overlap, and to accomplish tasks, one must simultaneously seek the movement of both noble persons. "When both noble persons fall into empty voids," suggests that when both noble persons are in the empty void, the hoped-for good fortune is merely a hollow promise. "When both the person and the dwelling are in death qi," implies that both the person's position and the dwelling's position are under death qi, leading to the decline of both the person and the dwelling. The "Zhipang Fu" states that the transmissions of卯, 巳, and 未 are called "Yingyang," like the phoenixes calling from high hills, forming a clear and noble pattern. The "Zhaodan Miaoji" says that when the initiating transmission is the same as卯 and the noble persons are both added to the gate and door positions, the desires of the heart cannot be fulfilled, and the existing situation is difficult to maintain.

On the Guichou day, the twelfth layout: dry branch on寅.

The three categories of lesson patterns are: beyond the main subject, "Jin Ru" refers to the three transmissions such as Yin, Mao, and Chen, which move forward in sequence, indicating a progressive advancement; "Guchen" is aInauspicious Sha representing solitude. The lesson meaning states: the day stem, day branch, and the three transmissions all show signs of leakage and emptiness; wood is the offspring of water, and the spirit of the offspring consumes the vital energy of the day stem; if this is used to inquire about illness, it indicates a chronic and lingering weakness. The explanatory commentary says: the day stem, day branch, and the three transmissions all show spirits of wood that leak the vital energy of the day stem, and they all fall into the旬空. In daytime divination, "Yuan Wu" (a heavenly general associated with thieves, darkness, and loss) is on the day stem and initiates as the first transmission; wood is the offspring of water, and the spirit of the offspring consumes the vital energy, indicating that the family's younger generation is wasting money. If this is used to inquire about illness, it certainly indicates a condition of extreme weakness, with the illness deeply rooted, and even if a famous physician like Qinyue Ren (Bi Qian) were called in, there would be no way to treat it.

The interpretation says: The matter originates from the male side, and action should be taken first. However, the day stem and day branch are afflicted by both Tianwang and Yangren, two heavy malevolent influences, making it difficult to move forward. Moreover, the transmission of Jiru also meets Kongwang, indicating a reversal and retreat. The overall judgment suggests dispersion and deception, with things not settling down in reality, being intangible and unreliable. Conversely, misfortune and worries are also considered as empty, easily dissipating.

Questioning the weather: first there is wind, then rain, but the rain is not heavy. Questioning the household: the house is declining, and the people in it are also weak. Questioning about official rank: the official star is in the grave, fallen, and being attacked, which is extremely unfavorable. Questioning about seeking wealth: everything is empty and the wealth element does not appear at all. Questioning about marriage: both the main element and the transmitted element fall into emptiness, which is not auspicious, and this marriage will not be completed. Questioning about pregnancy and childbirth: both pregnancy and giving birth are unfavorable. Questioning about illness: diseases related to the heart and lungs are very dangerous; new illnesses may have a chance of recovery. Questioning about lawsuits: one can escape, and originally there was not much harm. Questioning about endeavors: nothing can be accomplished. Questioning about travel: it is unfavorable, because the heavenly net and the yang ren are blocking the way. Questioning about a person on the move: everywhere is emptiness, and he will return disappointed. Questioning about lost items: they cannot be found. Questioning about capturing a criminal: during the day, the person is in the left neighbor, and it was done by someone from the same school who is an informant. Questioning about warfare: it is very unfavorable.

The "Bifa Fu" cites four lines: "Advancing with an empty Kongwang is suitable for retreating," meaning if the transmission of advancement falls into an empty Kongwang, one should retreat; "Plans often result in clumsiness and fall into a trap," indicating encountering the heavenly net evil spirit leads to clumsy and trapped situations; "When escaping and encountering another escape, beware of false words and deception," meaning when a weakening transmission meets another weakening one, one should guard against false words and deception; "Empty and empty, matters should not be pursued further," meaning if everything is empty, there is no need to pursue matters further. The "Lunin Huitong" states that if all three transmissions are born from the day stem, all things will be smooth and auspicious; if reversed, with the day stem generating the three transmissions, it is unknown when success will be evident. The "Zhipang Fu" says that the transmissions of寅, 卯, and 辰 are called "Zhenghe," allowing the implementation of strategies and eventually receiving favor; it also says that a smooth transmission falling into an empty is called "Shengchuan Konggu," meaning only echoes are heard without actual substance, retreat is auspicious while advancement is not advisable; it also states that if the three transmissions are purely the spirits of descendants, one does not need to seek wealth, and wealth will come naturally.

Jiayin day, First Division · Heaven Stem over Yin

The three categories of lesson patterns are: "Hidden Chant" refers to when the Heaven Plate and Earth Plate have the same branches, and the twelve spirits remain in their original positions without movement, indicating stillness and concealment; "Self-Responsibility" is the name for a Hidden Chant on an odd day, where the spirit on the day stem initiates the first transmission, meaning that all matters depend entirely on oneself; "Original Fetus" refers to a situation where things are still in the stage of incubation and concealment, and only when disturbed do they become visible. The lesson interpretation says: the day's virtue and day's fortune both appear on the day stem, and with a nobleman's assistance during the night, the matter can be accomplished; however, the post-horse carries the white tiger's official ghost, and once it is activated, there will be mutual punishments among the three transmissions. The commentary explains: on a Jia day, the寅 is both the virtue and fortune god, and it is now on the day stem and initiates the first transmission. Since the lesson was cast at night, this寅 is riding the azure dragon, and all matters can be expected to be accomplished. However, the image of Hidden Chant originally requires quiet waiting, and if one acts recklessly, the first transmission of寅 is still acceptable, but the middle transmission of巳 both drains the day stem's energy and conflicts with寅; by the final transmission of申, the post-horse carries the day's ghost, and during the day it is riding the white tiger. Moreover,寅 is in conflict with巳, and巳 is in conflict with申, leading to mutual conflicts throughout the three transmissions, with continuous attacks and punishments, resulting in countless dangers and various forms of misfortune, which are endless.

The interpretation says: This is a self-assumed divination, where the twelve spirits return to their original positions. The Heaven Plate and Earth Plate coincide completely, and both the day stem and the day branch are seen as the same position of Yin. The day branch is placed upon the day stem, and since they are of the same type, they nurture each other, leading to a strong foundation. The virtuous person can use this opportunity to cultivate virtue, gathering blessings and dispelling misfortune; the ordinary person, by keeping to his proper role, can also live a carefree and comfortable life. However, the mutual punishment between Yin and Si, and between Si and Shen, follows along with the harmful influences, meaning that if one remains calm and appropriate, he will be hindered by reckless actions. Moreover, the original state of the matter has a hidden and unmanifested appearance, and once disturbed, it will bring disaster; therefore, one must be cautious.

Questioning the weather: there will be much wind. Questioning the household: it is favorable at night, but if questioned during the day, there will be disturbances and strange occurrences in the house. Questioning about official rank: although favorable at night, if questioned during the day, the Teng Snake is in the Si position as if a snake with horns, the Gou Chen (governing land, disputes, and official detention) holds the seal, and the White Tiger returns to its temple, which is even more favorable. Questioning about seeking wealth: the wealth爻 does not appear, so it cannot be obtained. Questioning about marriage: it is not suitable. Questioning about childbirth: if questioned in the fourth month, there is a risk of miscarriage; if questioned in the tenth month, it indicates the wife is pregnant, but one should be cautious that it may not be a true pregnancy. Questioning about illness: questioning during the day causes worry. Questioning about litigation: initially there is doubt and uncertainty, but the outcome starts with misfortune and ends with good fortune. Questioning about travel: traveling a long distance is unfavorable. Questioning about a traveler: he will return home within a few days. Questioning about capturing a fugitive: if questioned at night, the fugitive can be caught. Questioning about military action: if questioned at night, it can bewith difficulty carried out, but if questioned during the day, one should be cautious.

The Three Quotations from the "Bi Fa Fu" state: "If the day stem is supported by Ding and the post-horse, it indicates movement." If a hidden chant chart shows the presence of Ding and the post-horse, even in stillness, movement is already implied and should be interpreted accordingly. "When the white tiger is above the day stem's ghost, misfortune comes swiftly." If the white tiger is positioned over the day stem's ghost, calamity arrives quickly. "When the white tiger rides upon the hidden ghost of the ten-day cycle, the calamity is severe." If the white tiger is combined with the hidden ghost from the ten-day cycle, the consequences are more serious. The "Ke Jing" explains that when the day stem and day branch belong to the same category, it is unfavorable for seeking wealth, as competition within the same category leads to conflict. If the post-horse carries the white tiger's ghost in a court case divination, the person will certainly face punishment far from home. The "Shen Jiang Lun" states that if the寅 (known as Gongcao in the Six Rens system) is occupied by the azure dragon, the person involved is likely a Taoist priest; if the寅 is occupied by the teng snake, it indicates supernatural disturbances caused by cats and foxes.

Jiayin day, second section · dry branch on Chou

The three categories of lesson patterns are: "Zhi Yi" also called "Bi Yong," which refers to the case where there are two or more instances of mutual control among the four lessons, and the one with the same yin-yang attribute as the day stem is selected as the initiating transmission, choosing one from the confusion; "Tui Ru" refers to the three transmissions moving backward through the sequence of Zi, Hai, and Xu, showing a gradual contraction; "Guchen" indicates solitude. The lesson meaning states: both Zi and Hai branches have fallen into Kongwang, and the heavenly stem hidden in the final transmission on Xu also turns around to control and injure the day stem Jia Wood. Therefore, any planning will not be smooth, and if it is about illness or legal matters, it is even more unbearable. The commentary explains: the initial transmission Zi is exactly in the旬空, and the middle transmission Hai is also sitting on an empty ground. When something falls into Kongwang, it lacks strength and cannot generate the day stem Jia Wood. Therefore, it turns to the final transmission Xu Earth, which is the wealth of Jia Wood, and at first glance it seems usable. However, the heavenly stem hidden in Xu is Geng Metal, which turns around to cut and injure Jia Wood. Xu also coincides with Yuanwu, causing a great loss, and none of the three transmissions benefit the day stem. Therefore, any endeavor will not gain advantage. If used for divination about illness or legal matters, with six instances of Kongwang and one instance of mutual control among the four lessons and three transmissions, it is even more unbearable.

The judgment states: In this divination, the course of action is to take the near and reject the distant, to choose the close and discard the distant. The three transmissions form a continuous backward sequence, indicating a situation where one wants to move but cannot, and wants to stop but cannot. All four lessons are instances of lower overcoming upper, which corresponds to the pattern of no descendants, and one should be cautious of disrespectful behavior from younger family members who are scheming in secret. The Guchen is activated as the first transmission, indicating loneliness and drifting away from relatives. The god that nourishes me, the印绶, has fallen into Kongwang, and above it lies theStorage of ghosts and spirits. Thus, all matters lack solid foundation, leaving only a false alarm.

Questioning the weather: At first it seems like rain is coming but does not fall, and in the end it turns into continuous rain. Questioning the household: Be cautious of hidden losses; at night it indicates the roof's animal head falling off, while during the day it suggests being careful about the inner doors and gates. Questioning about official rank: It is advisable to adopt a strategy of retreating first. Questioning about seeking wealth: Do not accept what comes to you directly; be careful not to lose what you strive for. Questioning about marriage: Inappropriate. Questioning about childbirth: Indicates a servant's secret pregnancy, which is difficult to raise. Questioning about illness: Sudden illness is not serious, but prolonged illness is very dangerous. Questioning about lawsuits: The lawsuit will not succeed. Questioning about travel: The date should be changed. Questioning about a traveler: He will arrive late. Questioning about capturing a criminal: It is stolen by a servant, and is easy to capture. Questioning about military affairs: Be cautious of the dispersal of troops. Questioning about burial: It is suitable to bury a spouse or a child.

The "Bifa Fu" cites a line "Foot on Kongwang, advancement is suitable," meaning when the first transmission sits on an empty place, it is as if one's feet are on empty ground, yet it is actually favorable for taking initiative. The "Ke Jing" states that during the day, the nobleman is on the day stem, but is being overcome by the "Vermilion Bird" on the卯 (Mao) position (which governs documents, speech, and firelight). If the divination concerns documents, one should not seek the nobleman, for the nobleman is hesitant and unwilling to take action. The "Guan Jingxue" says that the first and last transmissions of the three transmissions restrain each other. If the year of the person falls on the子 (Zi) position, one will lose direction and must carefully examine the initiating transmission, otherwise, even in old age, one will achieve nothing. The "Zhipang Fu" states that the three transmissions of Zi, Hai, and Xu are called heavy yin. They abide by the "Zhen Zheng" of the "Yijing·Dun卦" (the Retreat Hexagram), content to remain hidden for life. This means that when the sky is getting dark, one should rest, and all matters should be concealed and restrained.

Jiayin day, third section · dry branch on Zi

The five categories of lesson patterns are: Yuan Shou, Jian Chuan, Li De, "Baili" which refers to the three transmissions going in reverse and passing over positions, leading to contradictions and disorder; and "Bikou" which refers to the branch of the beginning of the ten-day period being placed on top of the end of the period, like a person keeping their mouth closed, unwilling to reveal the truth. The lesson meaning says: two layers of Zi water are stacked on the day stem and day branch, but they all fall into Kongwang, unable to provide nourishment; the official ghost ridden by the White Tiger is coming to cause trouble; the words spoken by people on the water are not reliable. The commentary explains: two layers of Zi water are stacked on the day stem and day branch, although water can generate wood and seems beneficial to the stem and branch, they are exactly at the time of emptyness, so the nourishment cannot be effective. The first transmission is戌, which is the wealth of Jia wood, sitting in the Kongwang position, with Yuan Wu on top, leading to loss and leakage, with more expenditure than gain. The middle transmission is申, which carries the post-horse and is also the day ghost, and during the day the lesson is ridden by the White Tiger, how can one avoid misfortune? The final transmission is午, which drains the vital energy of the day stem; the gods on the day stem and day branch all fall into emptyness, and the initiating god is on top of empty water, ridden by Yuan Wu, forming the image of "Bikou", so nothing can be trusted.

The interpretation says: When the first transmission is reversed and the three transmissions are transmitted in a backward and separated manner, this is called "reversing the snake." If the matter itself is not upright and open, it will certainly lead to disorder and deviation from the norm. The star of the constellation Wei (戌) is activated as the first transmission, and it is also accompanied by the Black Tortoise, which is called "closed mouth" divination. Any question asked will be unclear and difficult to grasp the underlying mechanism; moreover, it is sitting on the position of Kongwang, indicating only empty words without real substance. Fortunately, the deity above the day stem is born to the day stem, meaning the matter being planned can be satisfactory. Unfortunately, this deity is also in the position of the empty week, ultimately failing to exert any real effort. The nobleman is positioned at the gates of卯 and酉, indicating that this divination is suitable for people of high status, but not for those of lowly status.

Questioning the weather: dark clouds are densely gathered but rain does not fall, followed by a cold wind. Questioning the household: the home is empty, and one should be cautious of mourning clothes at night. Questioning fame: someone is willing to help, but oneself cannot advance. Questioning wealth: it is fortunate to avoid loss. Questioning marriage: it cannot be completed. Questioning childbirth: it indicates a servant woman is pregnant, and one should be cautious of a child who cannot speak. Questioning illness: it indicates a disease like dysphagia, and it is ominous during the day. Questioning lost items: it is difficult to find, and even if someone sees it, they will not say. Questioning litigation: both parties spend some money and then part ways. Questioning travel: the date should be changed. Questioning a traveler: he has not yet arrived. Questioning capture: in the southwest direction of the earth, it is possible to capture during the day. Questioning warfare: be cautious of the enemy pretending and speaking insincerely. Questioning burial: be cautious of water and holes in the grave.

The "Bifa Fu" cites two lines: "White Tiger riding the hidden ghost brings serious calamity," meaning that the White Tiger is riding on the hidden ghost that has escaped during the ten-day cycle, resulting in serious misfortune; "Closed mouth divination requires two kinds of interpretation," meaning that a closed mouth chart should be interpreted in two ways, either because the information is not flowing or because someone is deliberately concealing something. An old case recorded in the "Liu Ren Zhi Nan" states: In the year Guiyou, with the hour of Wu as the month general, a person in official position asked about the selection of ministers (a court appointment process). The interpretation said that the initiating transmission and the heavenly stems and branches of the day both fell into empty positions, indicating no signs of being selected. However, the middle transmission had the post-horse carrying the imperial decree, and the final transmission had the month general riding the Azure Dragon. Additionally, the annual master was riding the Tai Chang (a heavenly general associated with food, rewards, and official seals), acting as the official star, directly over the diviner's year. The classic says that Tai Chang entering the official territory can mean holding a government position; the month general riding the Azure Dragon means being appointed as a minister with a single word. According to this, the selection in this case would certainly be successful. However, the Azure Dragon was actually harming the annual master, so there was a concern that the person might not gain the emperor's favor. Later, both outcomes were confirmed.

Jiayin day, Fourth Bureau · Heaven Stem on Hai

The three categories of lesson patterns are: "Eight Specials" refers to days with the same heavenly stem and earthly branch such as Jiayin, Jiwei, Gengshen, and Guichou, where the four lessons form two pairs, and the person and the house are not distinguished, with no distinction between inside and outside. "Gua Su" is aInauspicious Sha indicating isolation and loneliness. Closed mouth is as previously mentioned, with the beginning of the ten-day period added to the end, resulting in no communication. The lesson meaning says: Fortunately, the day stem has the god of growth, leaving a ready-made means of livelihood; although the nobleman promises wealth, that wealth falls into kongwang; the three transmissions go through many twists and turns, but finally return to the original place. The explanation says: The亥 on the day stem is the place of growth for Jia wood, staying there without moving, there is already a sufficient means of support to rely on, so why seek far away. Instead, going for the initial transmission's wealth, although the lesson was cast in the daytime and met the nobleman, it is unfortunate that it coincides with the ten-day void; if cast at night, it is further marked by "Tian Kong" (a heavenly general indicating falsehood and empty promises), which is just an empty promise with nothing real. From the middle transmission through the final transmission, it goes through countless twists and turns, but in the end, it returns only to the亥 on the day stem.

The interpretation states: This is a hexagram of eight specialities with the four lessons showing no mutual overcoming, also known as "unrestrained inner chambers." It means that the inner curtain is not properly arranged, the superior and inferior are in the same room, the person's position and the dwelling position are not separated, and there is no distinction between inside and outside. Matters often recur repeatedly, great effort is expended but the results are of little use. The branch at the end of the ten-day period is added to the day's branch, and the branch at the beginning of the ten-day period forms a closed mouth. In all matters, caution is advisable. The initiating transmission falls in the empty position, so there will certainly be some change in the middle. If one can remain on the correct path, it will be auspicious.

Questioning the weather: first there is a haze and mist, then rain follows. Questioning the household: safe and auspicious, just be careful with the inner doors and windows. Questioning about official rank: the right time has not yet arrived. Questioning about seeking wealth: seek the nobleman, he verbally agrees, but ultimately brings no benefit. Questioning about marriage: no need to discuss. Questioning about pregnancy: childbirth will be delayed. Questioning about illness: entirely rely on slow recuperation. Questioning about lost items: it is mainly the servant who took them. Questioning about lawsuits: it is suitable to stop here. Questioning about travel: it is not yet decided. Questioning about a traveler: he is fond of the place of growth and does not wish to return. Questioning about capturing someone: he is hiding in a dry well, a hotel, or the home of a nobleman in the southwest. Questioning about military affairs: it is favorable for peace talks. Questioning about burial: the day branch has the god of growth, which is very auspicious.

The "Bifa Fu" cites the line "Mutual generation and mutual support, all matters benefit," stating that when the day stem and day branch mutually generate and support each other, and both the upper and lower aspects bring life qi, all matters will be beneficial. It includes two old cases. The first case involves a person born in the year Yihai. In the year Wushen, using Wei as the month general, he consulted about his future. The interpretation stated that both his birth year and the current year generate and support his body and dwelling, and his birth year's spirit also serves as Tai Chang. He would rise through the academic ranks and hold successive positions in the Imperial Inspection Office. However, the spirit representing his parents was located in the closed position, and it was also Kongwang and the tomb spirit as the first transmission, indicating he would first encounter the death of his parents, and only after mourning would he begin his official career. The number of Yin is seven, and the number of Hai is four, totaling a lifespan of seventy-eight. All these predictions were fulfilled. The second case is from the "Liu Ren Zhi Nan." Using Si as the month general to guess an object, the interpretation said that Chou represents yellow with black, and Hai represents two fish, so the hidden object must be two items of yellow and black color. Chou is also a cow, and the upper spirit is Tianyi and the spirit of Tianyi, indicating a precious item that can cure diseases. The number is four and eight. When opened, it was indeed two pieces of cow bile, each weighing four and eight cun.

Jiayin day, fifth arrangement, dry branch on Xu

The four categories of lesson patterns are: "Chong Shen" refers to the situation where the lower trigram overcomes the upper one more than once in the four lessons, requiring repeated examination and selection, and it is opposite to "Yuan Shou"; "Yan Shang" refers to the combination of寅, 午, 戌 forming a fire trinity, which represents the nature of fire ascending; the method of cutting the gate is the same as before; "Jiao Tong" indicates an improper relationship between men and women. The lesson meaning says: the three transmissions form a fire trinity, completely draining the energy of the day stem; even if the wealth of 戌 earth is obtained, it is inevitable to be wasted; when the lesson is cast at night, the nobleman is at the亥 position, the heavenly gate, if there is illness, one should pray to the gods for protection. The commentary explains: the three transmissions of寅, 午, 戌 form a fire trinity, fire is the son of 甲 wood, continuously draining the original energy of the day stem; even if the wealth of 戌 is obtained, it will ultimately be wasted. 未 is placed on 亥, and when the lesson is cast at night, this position is occupied by the nobleman, called the night nobleman ascending to the heavenly gate. If used for divination on illness, one should pray to the gods for protection and blessings.

The interpretation says: This is a case of re-examination, with the three transmissions forming a fiery upward pattern. On the day of the eight special positions, there is mutual control, and the three transmissions gradually lose strength, so one must beware of losses caused by partners. The spirits of the four graves are present above the position of growth, and the fire pattern does not fall into emptiness. Whatever is asked about will shift from the open to the hidden. Moreover, the gate-cutting is not a sign of stability, and the cunning youth carries suspicion of improper relationships. Therefore, actions must be taken at the right time, and one must restrain oneself with propriety. Fortunately, the trend of the hexagram shows first loss and then smoothness, so one should just remain steady and wait patiently.

Questioning the weather: fog and wind. Questioning the household: the interior should be tidied up. Questioning about official rank: there is gain but also loss. Questioning about seeking wealth: the gain is less than the cost. Questioning about marriage: this marriage is improper. Questioning about pregnancy: it is a servant's pregnancy, with a late delivery. Questioning about illness: fever is the main issue, but it is not serious. Questioning about lost items: they can be recovered. Questioning about litigation: there will be much expense, and it will end with a reconciliation. Questioning about travel: there will be obstacles on the way. Questioning about a traveler: he has not yet arrived. Questioning about a search: the person is in the north, near water. Questioning about military action: it is just a show of strength.

The "Bifa Fu" cites two lines: "Initial transmission is caught between two controlling forces, leaving one without control," meaning the first transmission is controlled by both upper and lower positions, like being squeezed, so all matters are beyond one's control; "Later conjunction in marriage does not require a matchmaker," meaning when the Heavenly Empress and Liu He (a heavenly general associated with marriage, trade, and intermediaries) are in conjunction, marriage matters will be fulfilled without the need for a matchmaker. The "Ke Jing" states that when the three transmissions form a fire pattern, they release the energy of the day stem, yet they also return to nourish the wealth god of the day stem, which is called taking back a soul debt, paying first and then receiving later. It also says that when the first transmission is seated in a position that controls it, and the heavenly generals and Liu He also come to control it, all matters consulted will be beyond one's control. The "Zhi Zhang Fu" states that when the transmissions are on戌, 午, and 寅, it is called "excessive dryness," and actions should be in accordance with the middle way, meaning if the fire energy is not smooth, one should use the principle of the middle way to correct its dryness. The "Shen Jiang Lun" states that on a Jia day, when 戌 is placed on 寅, the image is like a wall, and if theLiu He is above it, it is a harmonious conjunction; when卯 and 戌 are in conjunction, it is also the conjunction of the fifth preceding position of the day branch.

Jiayin day, sixth section · dry branch on You

The three categories of lesson patterns are: Eight Specials, First Sovereign, and the Four Absolute. The Four Absolute refers to the initiating transmission god falling into a position of disruption, which is suitable only for concluding old matters and not for initiating new affairs. The lesson meaning says:酉 is a breaking-up evil spirit, which harms the body and damages the residence; if the lesson is cast at night in summer, it should warn against fire disasters; illness and lawsuits will also come together. The commentary explains:酉 is a breaking-up evil spirit, now occupying the day branch (the text here mistakenly writes 'mouth' instead of 'day'), which harms the body and damages the residence. When casting a lesson in summer, fire is strong and酉 is subjected to fire control, turning it into a fire demon, which also occupies the residence position, so one should beware of fire from lamps and candles. If the lesson is cast at night, the Vermilion Bird transforms into a ghost, causing noise and disturbance at night, and illness and lawsuits arising together is expected.

The divination states: The main lesson shows that the hour and the酉 are in harmony, indicating that the overall situation is smooth. However, on the eighth day, there is still mutual control. Both the lesson and the transmissions are instances of self-punishment, and the initiating transmission originates from the Four Victories evil spirit. During the day, the trigram Gou Chen appears as if carrying a sword, while at night, the trigram Zhu Qu is like a bird making loud noises at dusk. One should beware of being overly ambitious and reckless, which may bring misfortune. Although the final transmission is the Growth spirit and forms a harmonious combination, one should still remain cautious and self-restrained. Since the lesson pattern belongs to the Four Absolute Deficiencies, it is only suitable for settling old matters, and not conducive to pursuing new endeavors.

What about the weather? The sky is overcast and there is wind. What about the household? Both the person and the house are not at peace. What about official rank? It will come slowly, and it is advisable to retire quickly. What about seeking wealth? Even when you get it, you should be careful to prevent losing it again. What about marriage? It will harm the wife and make it difficult to have children. What about pregnancy? It indicates the birth of a daughter, and the delivery will be safe. What about illness? It indicates weakness, coughing, and blocked breathing. What about lost items? It is a servant who has dropped them. What about lawsuits? It is advisable to reconcile. What about travel? It is unfavorable. What about a traveler? He has not yet returned. What about capturing a fugitive? He is in the northwest direction near the water, where there is a lawsuit, and you should be careful that a relative might let him go. What about military action? Both sides will suffer injuries.

The Three Quotations from the "Bi Fa Fu" state: "When both the heavenly stem and earthly branch are injured, both the person and the dwelling will suffer losses." "When both the day's noble and night's noble are empty, the good news is empty." "When both the person's position and the dwelling's position are in the storage position, one can only accept a period of darkness." The "Liu Ren Hui Tong" says that if the first transmission's ghost or spirit generates the final transmission, and the final transmission then nourishes the day's stem, this is called guiding the ghost to generate, resulting in a beginning of misfortune and a later blessing. If the Vermilion Bird ghost is placed on the day's stem at night, officials in the morning should beware of being impeached and should not submit memorials discussing current affairs. It also says that the position opposite the day's branch is called the earth net evil, and if the initiating transmission's spirit and the time of divination both attack the day's stem, it forms the earth net pattern, which is only favorable for hunting and capturing thieves. The "Zhou Hou Jing" states that if the first transmission is born and the final transmission enters death, the worries are deepest; if the first transmission enters death and the final transmission is born, there will be joy from meeting.

Jiayin day, seventh arrangement, dry branch on Shen

The three categories of lesson patterns are: "Reverse Chant" refers to the branches on the Heaven Plate and Earth Plate conflicting with each other, the twelve spirits all opposing and being out of place, causing instability and uncertainty. The concepts of Yuan Tai and the Six Instruments have been explained before. The lesson meaning states: the Day Stem and Day Branch conflict and injure each other; the Post-horse carries the official ghost; the Day Virtue and Day Wealth spirits are riding on the White Tiger; misfortunes are not a single one. The commentary explains: the hour of Shen is on top of the Day Stem and Day Branch, Shen and Yin conflict, metal and wood mutually control, both sides are injured. The Post-horse is also at Shen, so the Post-horse carries the official ghost of the Day Stem. Yin is the virtue spirit of the first day, when the lesson is cast in the daytime, Yin is occupied by the Heavenly Empress (a heavenly general associated with private matters, women, and water), water can generate wood, which is acceptable; but when the lesson is cast at night, Yin is occupied by the White Tiger, the White Tiger belongs to metal, which instead helps the ghosts to harm people. Those with an official position who receive this pattern will be promoted very quickly; ordinary people who receive it will suffer misfortunes, and there will be more than one.

The interpretation says: Reverse Chant divination is also called no reliance. The Heaven Plate covers nothing that is stable, with movement coming and going without certainty. Those who are still wish to move, and those who are moving wish to rest. The gods of Day Stem and Day Stem's Branch fall into a dead place, and the Post-horse is seated upon the Day Stem and Day Branch. In such a situation, it is most suitable to cut off old matters completely and start new plans.

Questioning the weather: In the night, the Azure Dragon rises to the sky, and on the day of Wu, there will be thunder, rain, and lightning. Questioning the household: In the night, the ghost of the Teng Snake attacks the house position, so beware of fire, disturbances, and cats causing trouble. Questioning official rank: In spring, virtue and fortune are flourishing, and in autumn, the official star and the post-horse are flourishing, so the person should regain their old position or receive a new promotion. Questioning wealth: In the day, the Azure Dragon is with the person, so they can gain wealth, but they should also beware of causing trouble. Questioning marriage: In the day, the bride is beautiful, but this marriage may not succeed. Questioning childbirth: It should be the eldest daughter, and although the delivery is quick, the fetus is attacked. Questioning illness: In the day, fire is strong and attacks metal, and in the night, wood attacks the spleen, so the illness should be watched carefully as it may recur. Questioning lost items: Look for them where they were originally. Questioning travel: The journey will be cut short halfway. Questioning a traveler: The traveler will arrive soon. Questioning the capture of a criminal: The Black Tortoise attacks the Gou Chen, the officers cannot control the thief, and it is difficult to capture, as the thieves come from the west. Questioning warfare: The forces of both sides are evenly matched.

The Four Rules from the "Bifa Fu" state: "Day and night noblemen should both be present for two noblemen," meaning that both day and night noblemen should be present to simultaneously connect with two noblemen when handling affairs; "When both noblemen are empty, the good news is just a hollow promise," indicating that if both noblemen are absent, the good news is only a false promise; "When the day stem and day branch meet their critical points, all plans should be concluded," meaning that if both the day stem and day branch are at their critical points, any plans should be ended; "When both the day stem and day branch are injured, beware of two losses," meaning that if both the day stem and day branch are harmed, both the person and the house may suffer damage. The "Ke Jing" says that when the hour of Shen is placed on the day stem of Jia, it is the ghost of the day stem's visible position, and since Shen also contains the hidden stem of Geng, it becomes the ghost of the day stem's hidden position, with both visible and hidden ghosts appearing together. It also says that when both the day stem and day branch are at their critical points, they become ghosts, and it is suitable to use this to conclude bad matters and resolve disputes. The "Shen Jiang Lun" says that when the hour of Yin (Gongcao) is occupied by the White Tiger and also occupies the position of Shen, it indicates a strong wind; at night, if the White Tiger is present, it refers to cats and similar animals. When the hour of Shen (Chuansong) is occupied by the Azure Dragon, it refers to roads. When the day stem of Jia is on the hour of Shen and occupied by the Teng Snake, it indicates the death of a wealthy official.

Jiayin day, Eighth Configuration: Dry Branch on Wei

The four categories of lesson patterns are: Knowing One, Guchen, "Degree of Difficulty" refers to the three transmissions moving from a place of hardship to a path of survival, and "Casting the Seal" refers to a pattern like戌 added to巳, similar to melting metal to cast a seal, where the main ruler receives an official position. The lesson meaning says: the day stem and day branch both have theTomb Spirit, making the situation dark and unclear; the first transmission falls in the Kongwang and failure place, with no support; the god of descendants, once activated, will bring disaster; if there is a lawsuit, even the nobleman will be angry. The explanation says: 未 is theStorage of wood, and the day stem and day branch are both covered by thisTomb Spirit, resulting in a dark and unstable situation. Then the transmission moves to the first transmission to seek survival, but the first transmission is exactly in the Kongwang and failure place, so what can be relied upon? 巳 is the son of 甲 wood, but it is attacked by 子 water below and buried by 戌 fire墓 above. If it remains quiet, it is acceptable, but once it moves, disaster will surely follow. Since the lesson was cast at night, 子 and 未 are in mutual conflict and harm, which is called harming the nobleman, and is most unsuitable for predicting lawsuits.

The interpretation says: The textbook of casting the seal is a favorable omen. However, among the four lessons, there are three instances of lower overcoming upper, indicating that the spirit representing the parents' seal is activated as the first transmission but falls into kongwang, which is very unfavorable for superiors. The fighting star is tied to the day stem's position, which is called heaven's prison, indicating that matters are detained and delayed. If the person's birth year is in wei, then heaven's net ensnares themselves, and there will certainly be injuries. Guchen and Guasu are activated as the first transmission, looking down there is a desolate hill, looking up there are enemies, whether the main or guest side, the mind is not at ease.

Questioning the weather: it will not rain but the sky is dark and gloomy. Questioning the household: during the day, there is a need to beware of people deceiving and misleading, and both people and the house are not comfortable. Questioning about official rank: if it is about an examination, one may pass; if it is about holding an official post, it is not auspicious. Questioning about seeking wealth: although one may be deceived by a minor person close to a nobleman, one can still obtain the wealth. Questioning about marriage: the woman is somewhat dull-witted but comes from a noble family; during the day, the partner is not honest. Questioning about pregnancy: it is a female fetus, but not yet due. Questioning about illness: illness of the spleen and stomach, the physician is powerless, and it is most dangerous in the second lunar month. Questioning about lost items: search in the southern-western earth. Questioning about travel: there is an obstruction due to matters concerning a superior. Questioning about a traveler: the spirit of the tomb is on the day stem, and the person can return home immediately. Questioning about apprehending a fugitive: in the due west direction, there is a pregnant woman or a dispute caused by drinking alcohol. Questioning about warfare: both sides wish to cease hostilities. Questioning about burial: the dragon line is not genuine, and there is an empty space in the tomb.

The "Bifa Fu" cites two lines: "The day stem'sTomb Spirit is combined with 关格, indicating that both people and their homes will decline," meaning that when the day stem'sTomb Spirit coincides with 关格, both people and their dwellings will suffer. Another line says, "The day stem and day branch each ride on墓神, causing confusion on both sides of human affairs," meaning that when both the day stem and day branch are riding onTomb Spirit, human affairs become unclear and confused. The "Ke Jing" states that whenTomb Spirit covers the day stem, if it is also the current month's生气神, it indicates a duty related to storing grain or money, and it should not be viewed simply as a storage place. The "Liu Ren Zhi Nan" records an old case from the year Gengyin, where the month general was申, and the question was about a drought. The divination stated that Zi (known as Shenhou in Six Rats) was the first transmission but fell into the empty period, the middle transmission's hidden丁神 was accompanied by wind evil, and the wind god was on the day stem and day branch, combining with寅. Within the寅宿, there was the Ji star, which also indicates wind. Therefore, it was concluded that there would be strong winds during the day, but by the子 hour, the empty period was filled, resulting in only a slight rain that moistened the ground. Later, this prediction was verified.
