Charting guides: Da Liu Ren Chart Calculator, Jin Kou Jue Chart

The lesson pattern involves the simultaneous presence ofHidden Chant, 元胎, and 斩关. The interpretation states that the horse of the post carries the White Tiger transformed into an official ghost, rushing directly towards the day stem. If the divination is done during the day, this is truly alarming. Fortunately, the horse is located on Kongwang, thus reducing the severity of the ominous trend. However, if the divination is done at night, the wealth爻 will be stolen by someone, resulting in a futile expense.

Shen is the post-horse of Jia day stem, and itself is the official ghost of Jia wood. In daytime divination, it comes riding on the White Tiger, equivalent to the post-horse carrying the White Tiger transformed into an official ghost rushing forward to harm the day stem. How can this be without fear? Fortunately, Shen falls within the旬空, reducing the intensity of the凶. However, the戌 earth on the residence is the wealth爻 of the day stem, and whether divined in day or night, it rides on the Black Tortoise. Even if there is no worry of thieves coming, there will certainly be a loss. The phrase 'night wealth is lost' in the lesson is merely paired with the previous 'day divination is fearsome' to form the text, with day and night contrasted, not implying that loss occurs only at night.

This reading takes the heavenly stem of the day as the starting point, with the associated deity initiating the transmission, and it also carries the characteristic of "cutting the gate." It is called "original embryo," with an appearance resembling an infant coiled and not yet born. Therefore, it is only suitable to maintain the existing situation and not to make new plans, otherwise both calamities and thefts will come together. In this reading, the post-horse falls into kongwang while the禄神 sits on a solid position, so officials who remain in their local area will not be affected. However, if someone is ordered to go on a mission outside, they may encounter obstacles and be unable to proceed. If the person's age or birth year happens to carry the post-horse, perhaps the kongwang can be filled, and then this interpretation should not be applied.

Heavenly Conditions: Wood that produces fire is strong and solid, while metal that produces water is weak and empty. With fire above and water below, it is likely that rain will not form. Family Home: There is originally a rich fortune, so it is best to remain calm and maintain what is already there. If there is sudden movement, punishments, clashes, and losses will arise continuously. Official Career: The禄神 is solid and strong, but the official star is empty. The three transmissions also mutually clash and conflict. If asked about this in autumn, it is favorable, but in other seasons it is not suitable. Marriage: If asking about the male partner, daytime divination is favorable; if asking about the female partner, it is generally unfavorable. Pregnancy and Childbirth: Two yang spirits enclose one yin spirit, indicating a female fetus. If there is alsoHidden Chant and the original fetus, childbirth will certainly be delayed.

Fleeing thieves: Those who run away and thieves have not left their native place. Illness: Weak spleen energy, illness affecting the liver meridian, which will soon recover. Travel: Hidden chant remains still and the post-horse falls empty; perhaps one can start traveling after this ten-day period. Travelers: Those who have a short distance will arrive immediately, but those with a long distance are uncertain. Military campaign: If asked during the day, it is ominous; if asked at night, victory is possible.

The *Bifa Fu* says: "When the prosperous禄神 is present on the person, further movement is in vain." This means that if the prosperous禄神 is already on the person, further action is pointless. "The host and guest do not match, and punishment is above" refers to the heavenly stem and earthly branch of the day being in conflict with the upper god, resulting in the host and guest not harmonizing. The *Miyao* states that if on a Jia day theHidden Chant is obtained, and the upper god of the beginning of the ten-day period is riding the Black Tortoise both in day and night, this is called the "closed mouth hexagram," which is suitable only for preserving oneself wisely and being quiet and inactive. It also says that if the heavenly stem of the day has寅, then the three transmissions will have the wealth爻, but the mind will inevitably be hesitant and retreat, which is called "lazy to take wealth." This is because one fears that obtaining wealth will lead to disputes.

On the Jiaxu day, second arrangement: the stem is on Chou.

The lesson pattern is knowing one and retreat of the herb. The lesson meaning says: the three marvels and six instruments are positioned one before and one after, enclosing the central position; ordinary people's fortune cannot suppress such a structure; the gentleman who obtains this is most appropriate, and can achieve high rank in examinations.

On a day beginning with Jia, the lodging palace is in Yin. Yin is equivalent to Jia itself. Now Yin falls on Mao, and Xu falls on Hai. This places Hai, Zi, and Chou in the middle. According to the method of hidden days, Hai, Zi, and Chou correspond to Yi, Bing, and Ding respectively, which are the three marvels in the heavens. Moreover, Jia Xu is the beginning of this month, so Xu serves as the six instruments. At the same time, Xu is also the leading star associated with official rank. A gentleman who receives this divination would naturally succeed in the imperial examinations. However, ordinary people lack the talent and virtue to bear such a pattern, and they will inevitably suffer from its consequences. Those in official positions who inquire about this in autumn will find it advantageous.

This is the situation of "Zhi Yi" combined with "Tui Ru": abandoning distant things for near ones, and unfamiliar ones for familiar ones; excessive kindness can lead to harm, and disputes often arise among colleagues and friends. For any divination concerning indecisive matters, harmony between superiors and subordinates is essential for a favorable omen. Moreover, if the official ghost and the tomb god are combined with the day stem, one should beware of secret harm from someone, especially in military campaigns where this is particularly dangerous.

Heavenly Time: The Tiangang points to the Si position, the Water God initiates the transmission, and the rain is not heavy. Family Residence: Both the Wealth Trigram and the Official Trigram are favorable, indicating a family that values poetry, books, rituals, and music. Official Career: The Day Stem and Day Branch enclose the odd god in the middle, indicating supreme honor and prestige. Marriage: Metal and Earth mutually generate, the Tai Chang and Nobleman are of matching doors, surely a couple of excellent husband and wife. Pregnancy and Childbirth: The lower god is strong while the upper god is weak, two Yang gods enclose one Yin god, the fetus must be female; Zi and Chou combine, childbirth will certainly be delayed.

Seeking wealth: One will receive property from a nobleman. Disease: The disease energy drains one's vital energy, and the person enters the storage of illness, so it cannot be cured immediately. Traveling far: It is suitable to travel by land, and one will receive assistance from a nobleman. A traveler: The Tiangang is placed in the four beginning positions, so the person who has left home has not yet returned. Lost items: They have already been stolen. Going to war: It is suitable to use the enemy's grain and supplies on the spot, and one will certainly return with a full load.

The "Bifa Fu" says: "Ghost near the third and fourth lessons brings litigation calamity." This means when the official ghost is located on the third and fourth lessons, litigation and calamity will follow. The "Ke Jing" says: On a Jiaxu day, the Chou is placed on the寅, indicating the nobleman is in the position of the self during the day, known as the "Nobleman's Caution Pattern." Because the Vermilion Bird is riding on the卯 wood, the卯 wood overcomes the Tianyi Nobleman's riding Chou earth, so those who take this lesson should not seek help from the nobleman— the nobleman holds caution, unwilling to take action on one's behalf. The "Zhipang Fu" says: The positions of Zi, Hai, and Xu are filled with heavy yin energy, resting in the virtuous path of retreat and seclusion of the "Dun" hexagram, preferring to remain unknown and silent for a lifetime.

On the Jiaxu day, third arrangement: stem on Zi

The lesson pattern combines the five types: involvement of harm, opportunity, intermediate transmission, cultivation of virtue, and regard for ancestors. The lesson meaning states: the four lessons and three transmissions occupy six positions, all being yang spirits; ordinary people who receive this divination can dispel calamities and misfortunes; the post-horse carries the white tiger transformed into a ghostly official, rushing forward continuously; it hastens the person's inability to have even a moment of ease.

The four lessons and three transmissions all contain yang spirits, making this lesson suitable for matters concerning officialdom. The dark and obscured energies have already been completely dispersed; how could an ordinary person who divines this not be able to dispel their own misfortunes? The official ghost is riding the white tiger, which is referred to as "prompting the official symbol." Now, although the white tiger's yin spirit can restrain the white tiger, the post-horse actually carries it, and with a single whip, it moves on, possessing an unstoppable momentum; even if one desires stability, it cannot be achieved. This is the meaning of the lesson "prompting people without respite." The卯 (Mao) is occupied by the vermilion bird sitting on the巳 (Si), and the申 (Shen) is occupied by the white tiger sitting on the戌 (Xu), forming the "returning to the nest pattern," indicating that the traveler will arrive immediately. Furthermore, the white tiger is sitting on the residence, inevitably leading to matters of mourning; if it coincides with the year of戌 (Xu), then both mourning and condolences will occur simultaneously.

This is a "Seeing the Opportunity" divination. One should observe the timing and discern expressions, adapting flexibly to circumstances, and should not hesitate or be timid. The first transmission is governed by the Azure Dragon and the Teng Snake, both of which are in an empty and fallen position. Although evil matters cannot be accomplished, auspicious matters also cannot be realized. The午 fire is a divine force that drains my energy, and it also conflicts with the day stem's governing deity. It is likely that there will be financial losses and expenditures in the descendants' generation.

Heavenly conditions: If the divination is done during the day and the question is about rain followed by clear weather, it is favorable. If done at night and the question is about clear weather followed by rain, it is also favorable. For the household: The White Tiger drains the energy of the day branch, indicating possible misfortunes, deaths, or financial losses. For official positions: Asking about official rank or salary, this divination is most auspicious. For seeking wealth: If divined during the day, it is unfavorable; if done at night, the wealth is certain to be obtained. For marriage: The earth element (辰) is present in both day and night, riding on Liu He (六合), and forms a Triple Harmony Formation with the day stem and day branch, indicating a definite success in marriage.

Fetus and childbirth: All six positions of the four lessons and three transmissions are yang. When yang reaches its extreme, it turns to generate yin. The fetus must be female, and the delivery will be difficult. Disease: The White Tiger brings the official ghost to attack the day stem. Only those whose destiny belongs to fire, and fire can overcome metal, will have a chance of survival. Travel: The post-horse is located on the residence, so one cannot stay, and must leave. Traveler: The Tiangang is placed on one of the four central positions (子, 午, 卯, 酉), meaning the person is definitely still on the way. Military campaign: It is favorable for the attacking side, but unfavorable for the defending side.

The "Bifa Fu" says: "When six yang numbers are complete, it is suitable for public affairs," meaning that when six positions are purely yang and complete, it is favorable for official duties. "The official's messenger is urging the official to take office," meaning that the official symbol has arrived, and the official should take office. The "Ke Jing" says: On a Jiaxu day, if the day stem is Zi and the day branch is Shen, this is called the "Grasping Wealth in Danger" pattern. Because the day stem Jia Wood controls the day branch Chen Earth, which is considered wealth, but now the day branch is occupied by the official ghost, so one must take this wealth with fear and anxiety. Fortunately, within this ten-day period, Shen is falling into the empty position, so there is no need to be afraid.

On the Jiaxu day, the fourth arrangement: the heavenly stem is on the亥 position.

The lesson pattern is "Hao Shi" and "Yuan Tai," combined with "Yao Ke Ke" — all four lessons have no mutual control, but a distant god remotely harms the day stem. The lesson meaning says: there is an arrow coming to injure me; fortunately, this arrow falls into Kongwang; at home, one should be cautious with words and keep silent; in this way, livelihood will naturally flourish.

The arrow made of wormwood grass has no strength, and the first transmission falls into kongwang, resulting in a situation where even the arrow is lost, making it even harder to exert force. Wei is the last position of this ten-day cycle, and now it is present over the residence, called "closed mouth." One must speak cautiously and carefully to avoid misfortune. Hai is the place of growth for Jia wood, and its yin spirit belongs to water, being the source of water. With a continuous flow of water nourishing me, one's livelihood will naturally flourish.

The day stem's official ghost is initiating the transmission, and it is accompanied by the post-horse. Divining about official matters indicates extremely rapid progress. However, the first transmission's Shen is located in kongwang. The white tiger is on Shen and added to Hai, which is called 'white tiger rushing to the bright part'. The white tiger rushes forward with its form clearly visible, indicating that someone in the family is certainly ill.

Heavenly Conditions: The first transmission falls in Kongwang, so rain will come only after this ten-day period. Family Residence: The day stem is supported by the growth energy, and the day branch acts as the wealth god, benefiting both inside and outside the home; however, the official ghost falling in Kongwang still causes trouble, leading to incidents like hidden corpses and imagining ghosts. Official Career: Both the official star and the post-horse fall in Kongwang, indicating an unfavorable omen for career prospects. Seeking Wealth: The virtue god and the official luck god are both in the final transmission, and if the divination is done at night and the Azure Dragon is also present, it becomes more favorable. Marriage: Divination during the day is unfavorable, but divination at night can lead to a successful marriage. Pregnancy: Two yang gods enclose one yin god, indicating a female fetus.

Disease: White Tiger and Official Ghost are in empty and hidden positions, the illness though serious can still be treated. Seeking schemes: The front is empty, the back is solid, it is difficult at first but easy afterwards. Traveling: Divination at night shows both water and land routes are suitable, but the post-horse is in empty position, so cannot start immediately. Travelers: Tiangang is on the positions of the four seasons, the person who has left will arrive immediately. Military campaign: There is probably an ambush, one should be especially cautious and prepared.

The "Bifa Fu" says: "Fuhu yin ge you zhi si," meaning that husband and wife each have private affairs outside; "Binzhu bu tou xing zai shang," meaning that the upper deity is in conflict with the main deity, and the host and guest are not in harmony. The "Wuyue Chunqiu" records Wu Zixu's words: when the hour is placed at the position of the crowing rooster, the Azure Dragon is on You, the benevolent deity is above and the penal deity is on metal. On this day, the penal deity harms the benevolent deity, so the father has a rebellious son and the ruler has a rebellious minister. The "Bichen" explains: this divination is called "Haoshǐ." Shen is in the empty position of the ten-day cycle, placed on Hai, forming the six harms, and also being a day break and the official ghost of the day stem. The three transmissions are in mutual conflict, the day stem overcomes the day branch's deity, and the day branch overcomes the day stem's deity. There is no harmony at all in the entire chart, hence there are rebellious sons and ministers.

On the Jiaxu day, fifth arrangement: the stem is over the戌.

The lesson pattern is characterized by re-examination and cutting the gate. There are two additional types: "Inflaming Lesson" occurs when the three transmissions form the fire triad of Yin-Wu-Xu, reflecting the fire element's upward movement. "Son-in-law Lesson" happens when the day branch is placed upon the day stem, resembling a man marrying into another family and abandoning his own to follow the wife's. The lesson meaning states: internal and external connections are intertwined; the household flourishes but the people suffer; lost money will return later; and there is a need to be cautious about secret affairs involving servants in the household.

The three transmissions all drain the energy of the day stem, indicating that the matter being questioned will certainly result in some loss. The寅 is placed on the午, and the午 is placed on the戌, forming a fire trinity. This connects from the hidden spirit of the day branch to the yang position of the day stem, forming a pattern of internal and external connection. Since the three transmissions both drain the energy of the day stem and benefit the day branch, the person will naturally suffer loss while the household will naturally flourish. The戌 is originally the wealth hexagram of the day stem, but it is attacked by the寅 wood below and injured by theLiu He above; this wealth no longer belongs to me. Now it suddenly becomes the first transmission, still being the wealth of the day stem, which is called lost money returning. In terms of symbolism, the戌 represents servants, theLiu He indicates secret affairs, and the寅 is the gate of ghosts. When these three come together, there must be someone among the servants who is involved in secret affairs and has fled.

The divine spirits on the day branch are added to the day stem, and in return are restrained by the day stem. This is like a wife yielding to her husband, showing a situation where one gives up their own will and submits to others. Those who receive this divination usually have to suppress their own wishes and accommodate others, unable to make their own decisions.

Heavenly conditions: The four lessons and three transmissions are all fire, so rain cannot form below. Home affairs: The three transmissions generate each other in sequence, indicating a certain spaciousness in residence. Official career: The fire in the three transmissions overcomes the official star metal, making it difficult to achieve official success. Seeking wealth: There will be both gains and losses. Marriage: The triple harmony connects the beginning and end, surely resembling the intermarriage between the Zhu and Chen families across generations. Pregnancy: The four lessons and three transmissions are all yang spirits, indicating a male fetus. Illness: A condition resembling collapse. Traveler: Cannot return soon. Military campaign: Insufficient provisions.

The "Bifa Fu" says: "At the beginning, being caught between Jia and Ke, one cannot act freely," meaning that the first transmission is surrounded by Jia and Ke, and the matter is not under one's control. An ancient example from "Zhinan" states: In the eighth month, the general Xu was placed on Hai. Someone consulted about a military examination. The interpretation said: Hekui (Xu) earth is placed on the day stem and initiates the transmission, and the nobleman is located on the person's own birth year. The pattern matches the pearl disk; it is pleasing that the Vermilion Bird hides the Yi odd, and rides on the growth and strength of the stem, so the article written is in harmony with the examiner's mind. The transmission Shen metal is placed on Zi, so the arrow will surely hit the target, and passing the examination is certain. Another ancient example from "Gujian" states: The general Hai was placed on Mao. Someone consulted about a lost item. The interpretation said: The day branch Xu conflicts with Wei, and Wei is placed on Hai, so one should look in the northwest direction of Hai. The number of Wei is eight, and the number of Hai is four, eight times four equals thirty-two, meaning thirty-two li away. Hai belongs to water, and is taken as the image of a pavilion, while Wei is taken as the image of food and drink, so the lost item is near a tavern by the water. Later, it was all verified.

On the Jiaxu day, sixth arrangement: dry branch over You

The lesson pattern indicates that the first and fourth transmissions are cut off. The lesson meaning states: the first and final transmissions are positioned before and after, respectively, enclosing the nobleman in the middle; when asking about matters concerning superiors or elders, there is particular joy; the official ghost on the day stem falls into kongwang, indicating only a false alarm; the day stem and day branch each ride on the spirit that drains the other.

The first transmission is Zi and the final transmission is Yin, which on the Heaven Plate exactly sandwich the Nobleman on Chou. From the perspective of the Three Transmissions, they also precede and follow one after another, leading the Nobleman on Wei. Therefore, when divining matters concerning the Nobleman or respected elders, there will certainly be great joy. The酉 metal on the Day Stem, although it is an official ghost, is precisely within the旬空, so even if there are unexpected disturbances, they will merely be false alarms. However, the spirit riding on the Day Stem is one that drains the energy of the Day Branch, and the spirit riding on the Day Branch is one that drains the energy of the Day Stem. Both the person and the house will inevitably suffer some loss.

This is a "Zhi Yi" divination. The one that harmonizes with the day stem is used as the initiating transmission. There are two possible paths, and one must be chosen and pursued wholeheartedly. It comes suddenly and leaves suddenly; entrusting others with tasks is unreliable, and trade transactions are difficult to complete. I have gained something from the other party, and the other party will certainly seek something back from me; it is a situation of mutual gain and loss. The trigram Yin is placed over Wei, and since it is a night divination with the White Tiger, it indicates interference by spirits in a temple.

Heavenly circumstances: The Tiangang is located in the Net mansion position, and heavy rain will come in this ten-day period. Family residence: The matter is caused by the head of the family, and the trouble does not come from outside; both people and the house are losing energy, and thieves are hard to guard against. Official position: There is salary but no official position, unless the person asking the question has a birth year that can fill the Kongwang, then it can be obtained. Seeking wealth: It is obtained from here and lost from here. Marriage: The day stem and day branch mutually control each other, and the male side is more dangerous. Pregnancy: The fetus is on the empty side while the mother is on the solid side, and it is feared that the fetus cannot form. Seeking officials: If the question is asked at night, it is possible to meet officials.

Disease: If the side of the person is empty while the side of the illness is occupied, the illness is certainly difficult to cure; unless the deity governing the person's current age and birth year rides upon the water deity and water general, then it will definitely be cured. Travel: If both the person and the horse are empty, one cannot depart immediately. Travelers: The Tiangang is placed on the position of the four middle terms, indicating that the traveler is certainly still on the way. Military campaign: Suddenly there will be a false display of strength, one must not be frightened. Whether divining at night or in the midst of battle, one can achieve victory.

The "Bifa Fu" says: "The preceding and following lead to promotion and good fortune," meaning the first transmission is ahead guiding the way and the final transmission is behind following, indicating good fortune for promotion; "Both person and dwelling are weakened and invite thieves," meaning both the person and the dwelling are drained of energy, making them prone to theft. The "Ke Jing" says: whenever there are six Jia days, if the day stem has You on it, and the divination is done at night, it is called the "Que Gui Ge"; because the Vermilion Bird serves as the official ghost of the day stem and presses upon the day stem, officials in court should beware of someone filing an impeachment petition, and they should also avoid submitting their own petitions, otherwise they may be punished or demoted. The "Zhong Huang Jing" says: when Chou enters the three transmissions of Wu, there are often curses. The "Yucheng Ge" says: when Tian Kong falls on Wei, there are many strange occurrences in the well.

On the Jiaxu day, seventh arrangement: the heavenly stem is on Shen.

The lesson pattern is reverse chant, original embryo, and cutting the gate. The lesson meaning says: asking at night, the official ghost is occupied by the fierce white tiger; the official ghost is instead occupied by the auspicious azure dragon; good and bad must be carefully distinguished; but both coming and going fall into kongwang.

Yin is the禄神 of Jia day, originally a favorable deity, but when it appears at night accompanied by the White Tiger, the good turns into the bad. Shen is the official ghost of Jia wood, originally an ominous deity, but when it appears during the day accompanied by the Azure Dragon, the bad turns into the good. However, both the incoming and outgoing aspects fall into Kongwang. Upon further examining its good or bad nature, it is no more substantial than floating clouds on a mountain peak or the reflection of the moon on water, visible yet ungraspable.

Reverse Chant combined with the original embryo indicates a situation of constant turmoil and lack of peace. Both misfortune and fortune are just beginning to emerge, making it difficult to determine whether things will move or remain still. The strong may become weak, and the weak may become strong; those in unfavorable circumstances should actually take initiative, while those in favorable situations should instead retreat. This is exactly the meaning of the old saying, "the loss of a horse by the frontier may turn out to be a gain." The god of the day branch was originally the wealth hexagram of the day stem, but now it has reversed to become the official ghost above the day stem. Therefore, it is not advisable to seek help from the nobleman for financial matters. However, if the question is asked during the day, it is still considered auspicious. In general, old matters can be completed, but long delayed affairs should be cautious of unexpected changes. When寅 is placed on申 and rides on the Heavenly Empress, it indicates that there will be news from afar and communication will be successful.

Heavenly circumstances: Trying to predict clear weather but it does not clear, trying to predict rain but it does not rain. Family home: The wealth sign and the thief are in the same position, beware of losing things. Official career: The official star and the禄神 are both in empty positions, predicting an unfavorable outcome for career prospects. Seeking wealth: Even the existing wealth is difficult to keep. Marriage: Divination in the daytime suggests good fortune for the male partner, but it is regrettable that it falls into an empty position. Pregnancy: The fetus is weak while the mother is strong, there is a fear that pregnancy may not occur.

Disease: Sudden illness is auspicious, while prolonged illness is inauspicious. Capturing thieves: If questioned in the eighth month, none will escape. Travel: The post-horse is empty, so travel cannot take place. A traveler: Tiangang is placed on the position of the four seasons, so the person who has left will return immediately. Military campaign: Both those coming and going are empty, so the army should temporarily disband.

The "Bifa Fu" says: "Coming and going both empty, how can there be movement?" This means both ends are empty, so there is no need for action. "Empty and empty, nothing to pursue," means everything is empty, so there is no need to chase after things. "Joy and fear with empty Kongwang is a wonderful opportunity," means a pleasant emptiness brings disappointment, while a fearful emptiness avoids misfortune. The exact balance between these two is the subtle point. The "Ke Jing" says: On any of the six Jia days, if Shen is placed on Jia, then the heavenly spirit on the day stem acts as the official ghost in the open position of the day stem; the Chen earth on the day branch, according to the ten-day cycle, leads to Geng metal, which acts as the official ghost in the hidden position of the day stem. Thus, both the open and hidden official ghosts appear, which is the meaning of "ghosts in the third and fourth positions." The "Yucheng Ge" says: In reverse chant divination, when predicting events, do not state things as certain; things come and go, always involving two matters together. Ordinary people who receive the main aspect of the divination should be moving, but if they do not move, there will be resentment in human relationships.
