The Kaiyuan Treatise on Astrology, Volume 27

《黃帝占》曰：“歲星入東井，軍在外，歲星進，兵退；歲星退，兵進。”郗萌曰：“歲星犯東井，一南一北，侯王憂；又曰害於黍稷。”《黃帝占》曰：“歲星犯東井，留二十日以上，易正朔。”又曰：“天下有土功，川瀆之事，期十月，若十一月。”又曰：“居其東，五穀不成；居其南，國君病，諸侯多死；居其西者，及兒子多死；居其北，有改令。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the planet Jupiter enters the Well Mansion, the army is fighting outside. If Jupiter moves forward, our army retreats; if Jupiter retreats, our army advances. Xi Meng says: When Jupiter invades the Well Mansion, it moves suddenly south and north, and the king and duke will have worries; it also causes harm to millet and rice. The Yellow Emperor's Divination also says: When Jupiter invades the Well Mansion and stays for more than twenty days, the calendar and system of months should be corrected. It also says: If there are earth and wood construction projects and river and canal works in the country, they should occur around the tenth or eleventh month. It also says: If Jupiter is located to the east of the Well Mansion, the five grains will not grow; if it is located to the south, the king will be sick and many princes will die; if it is located to the west, many children will die; if it is located to the north, the government orders will be changed. The Well Mansion is also called the Well Constellation, which governs water affairs and laws and punishments, and its corresponding region is the state of Qin.

《黃帝占》曰：“歲星出入留舍東井，三十日，天下一國有水者。”陳卓曰：“歲星在東井，兵起，近期一年，遠五年。”《黃帝占》曰：“歲星中犯東井，人君有戮者。”陳卓曰：“歲星犯守東井，王者法令急，多獄事，其年大水，民飢，天下改令。”郗萌曰：“歲星中犯乘東井，其國內外有兵起。”

The Huangdi Zhan says: When the planet Jupiter appears, disappears, stays, or enters the dwelling of the Well mansion for thirty days, a country will suffer from flooding. Chen Zhuo says: When Jupiter is in the Well mansion, warfare will arise; the nearer the occurrence, the sooner the fulfillment within a year, the farther, within five years. The Huangdi Zhan says: When Jupiter directly invades the Well mansion, the ruler will kill people. Chen Zhuo says: When Jupiter invades and stays in the Well mansion, the emperor's laws will be harsh, lawsuits will be numerous, there will be a great flood in that year, the people will suffer from famine, and the empire will change its policies. Xi Meng says: When Jupiter directly invades and overshadows the Well mansion, warfare will arise both inside and outside the country. "Zhong fan" refers to the planet passing directly over, which is more severe than "fan," which means a marginal approach. Therefore, the fulfillment directly points to the ruler killing people.

（案孝武帝政和二年四月乙卯，歲星在東井，占曰：‘兵起，近期一年，遠五年。’到三年正月，匈奴入五原、酒泉，殺兩都尉。三月遣將軍廣利七萬人出五原，御史大夫高成將兵三萬人出河西，重合保馬通將四萬騎出酒泉，與虜賊，多斬首，廣利敗匈奴，積三年。又案魏甘露三年三月庚子，歲星順行，犯東井距星，占曰：‘兵起’。到景元元年己丑，太后令曰：‘昔日立東海王子齔，悖逆不道，自陷大禍，以民禮葬之。’京師嚴兵，積二年三月。）

The original book's marginal notes state that in the second year of Emperor Wu of Han's Zhenghe reign (the text originally says "Zhenghe"), in the fourth month of the year Yimao, the planet Jupiter was located in the constellation East Well. The divination text said, "War will arise, with immediate effects within a year and distant effects within five years." By the first month of the third year, the Xiongnu invaded Wuyuan and Jiushuiquan, killing two generals. In the third month, the court sent General Li Guangli with an army of seventy thousand to leave from Wuyuan, General Shangqiu Cheng with three thousand troops to leave from Hexi, and Rehe Hou Ma Tong with four ten-thousand cavalry to leave from Jiushuiquan, to fight the enemy, killing many of their soldiers. Li Guangli also defeated the Xiongnu, and the entire campaign lasted three years. Further examination shows that in the third month of the third year of Emperor Wei's Ganlu reign, the planet Jupiter moved in its normal course and invaded the star near the East Well constellation, and the divination text said, "War will arise." By the first year of Jingyuan, in the year Jichou, the empress dowager ordered, "The son of the Marquess of Donghai who was previously established is still young and has acted rebelliously and improperly, bringing upon himself great misfortune; he shall be buried according to the rites of a common person." The capital city was then placed on alert, and the entire period lasted two years and three months.

《荊州占》曰：“歲星去東井七寸，七日以上至一百五十日，則王者用法，大臣修度，天下和平。”石氏曰：“歲星守東井，河溢。”甘氏曰：“歲星守東井，法令急，多獄事，其年大赦。”《黃帝占》曰：“歲星守東井，歲大飢，人民疾病。”《黃帝占》曰：“歲星守東井南，男子多寒熱病。”

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When the planet Jupiter is seven inches away from the East Well, if it takes seven days to one hundred and fifty days, then the emperor governs according to law, ministers abide by regulations, and the world is at peace. The Shi school says: When Jupiter stays at the East Well, the Yellow River will overflow. The Gan school says: When Jupiter stays at the East Well, laws and punishments are severe, and there will be many lawsuits and trials; there will be a great amnesty that year. The *Yellow Emperor's Divination* says: When Jupiter stays at the East Well, there will be a great famine and people will fall ill. The *Yellow Emperor's Divination* also says: When Jupiter is at the southern side of the East Well, many men will suffer from cold and fever. Although all these divinations refer to Jupiter staying at the East Well, the Shi school interprets it as river flooding, the Gan school interprets it as harsh laws leading eventually to a great amnesty, and the *Yellow Emperor's Divination* interprets it as famine and disease. This shows that the Well mansion oversees both water affairs and legal matters.

郗萌曰：“歲星守東井，大人多病，若有喪；守其北，多暴雨。又曰：歲星守東井，若將相死；一曰君死；又曰糴貴。”石氏曰：“歲星守東井，旱。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星守東井，道上多死人。”《黃帝占》曰：“歲星守東井，水。”郗萌曰：“歲星守東井，百物五穀不成；久守之，金錢易。”陳卓曰：“歲星守東井，百川皆溢。”

Xi Meng said: The planet Jupiter stays in the East Well, indicating many high officials will be sick or there will be funerals; if it stays in the northern part of the East Well, there will be heavy rains. He also said: The planet Jupiter staying in the East Well may mean the death of ministers or the death of the sovereign; another view is that grain prices will rise. The Shi school said: The planet Jupiter staying in the East Well indicates drought. The "Jingzhou Divination" said: The planet Jupiter staying in the East Well indicates many deaths on the roads. The "Yellow Emperor's Divination" said: The planet Jupiter staying in the East Well indicates water disasters. Xi Meng also said: The planet Jupiter staying in the East Well means that all things and grains will not grow; if it stays there for a long time, wealth will flow away. Chen Zhuo said: The planet Jupiter staying in the East Well means that all rivers will overflow. Different schools have various interpretations here, some predicting drought, some predicting floods, some predicting high grain prices or the death of noblemen. This is because the East Well mansion combines the meanings of water and law, so diviners must combine the color of the planet, the number of days, and the direction it is staying to make an accurate prediction.

郗萌曰：“歲星入，若守東井，有士功事。又曰：歲星入犯乘守東井，留三日以上，其歲諸侯當之。”《感精符》曰：“五精入東井，從歲星聚，殺白而發黃，神奉絕，用兵卒亂，以義得天下。”石氏曰：“歲星逆行東井，有兵；一曰歲星守東井，有兵。”

Xi Meng said: When the star of years enters or stays in the Well Mansion, there will be matters concerning earth and wood construction. He also said: When the star of years enters, invades, dominates, and stays in the Well Mansion, and remains for more than three days, the calamity of this year will be borne by the feudal princes. The "Gan Jing Fu" says: The spirits of the five stars all enter the Well Mansion, following the star of years to gather, the white and severe qi retreats and yellow qi emerges, the worship of deities is cut off, armies are used but soldiers become disordered, ultimately gaining the world through righteousness. The Shi school said: When the star of yearsretrograde in the Well Mansion, there will be warfare; another view says when the star of years stays in the Well Mansion, there will be warfare.

（案《宋書天文志》曰：“晉永興二年九月，歲星守東井，占曰：有兵，井又秦分也。是年荀睎破公師蕃，張方破范陽王虓，關西諸將攻河間，王顒顒奔走，東海王迎殺之。”）郗萌曰：“歲星逆行東井，其君出入不時。”陳卓曰：“歲星逆行東井，山川壅寒。”又曰：“歲星中犯乘守東井若鉞，人君有戮死者。”又曰：“歲星環繞鉞，諸侯誅；一曰赦。”

The original book's marginal notes cite the "Book of the Later Han, Records of Astronomy" which says: In the second year of Yongxing during the Jin dynasty, in the ninth month, the planet Jupiter was stationed in the Well mansion. The divination text said that there would be warfare. The Well mansion is also the celestial region corresponding to the state of Qin. In this year, Xun Xi defeated Gong Shi Fan, Zhang Fang defeated Prince Fanyang Wang Sima Xiao, and the generals in the western pass attacked Prince Hejian Wang. Prince Sima Yong fled, and Prince Donghai Wang brought him back, but killed him on the way. Xi Meng said: When the planet Jupiter is in the Well mansion and moves retrograde, the ruler has no fixed time for going out or coming back. Chen Zhuo said: When the planet Jupiter is in the Well mansion and moves retrograde, mountains and rivers are blocked. He also said: When the planet Jupiter approaches, invades, and stays in the Well mansion or the钺 star, the ruler will kill people. Another saying is that there will be an amnesty. The钺 star is attached before the Well mansion, indicating a death sentence, so when the planet Jupiter circles around it, it indicates that the princes will be executed.

（案魏武帝甘露二年八月壬年，歲星犯鉞，其年九月庚寅，歲星逆行井鉞，到三年，徵東將軍諸葛誕誅，積六月應。）《黃帝占》曰：“歲星入鉞，大臣誅，一曰歲星入鉞，賢相死。”郗萌曰：“歲星干鉞者，為斧鉞用。”又曰：“歲星中犯乘守鉞，其國內亂，兵起。”

The original book's marginal notes state that in the second year of Wei's Ganlu period, in August on a day with the stem-branch Jinni (the text has an error in the stem-branch), the planet Jupiter invaded the star Yue; in the same year, in September on the day of Gengyin, Jupiter was in the Well mansion and the Yue star, moving retrograde; by the third year, the general of the Eastern Expedition, Zhuge Dan, was executed, and this lasted six months before the prediction came true. The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: when Jupiter enters the Yue star, a minister will be executed; another version says when Jupiter enters the Yue star, a virtuous prime minister will die. Xi Meng says: when Jupiter violates the Yue star, the ruler will actively use the斧钺 (axe and halberd) punishment. It also says: when Jupiter invades, dominates, and stays in the Yue star from the center, the country will experience internal disorder and warfare will arise.

郗萌曰：“歲星入輿鬼，相誅。”巫咸曰：“歲星入輿鬼，為十日以上，金錢大散於諸侯；期六十日，若十月。”石氏曰：“木入輿鬼，大臣誅；一曰亂臣在內。”

Xi Meng said: The planet Jupiter enters the Ghost Mansion, and the prime minister is executed. Wu Xian said: If Jupiter enters the Ghost Mansion for more than ten days, a large amount of money is distributed to the feudal princes, the fulfillment period is sixty days or ten months. The Shi school said: When Jupiter enters the Ghost Mansion, the ministers are executed; another view is that the traitorous ministers are within the court. The Ghost Mansion is also called Ghost Mansion, which governs rituals for ghosts and spirits and matters of death and mourning. The accumulated corpse qi within this mansion is also called the celestial corpse. Its territory corresponds to the state of Qin, so the divination texts for this mansion often discuss executions, great mourning, and the distribution of money.

（案漢孝武帝后元二年十月戊午，歲星在輿鬼中，占曰：大臣有誅者；一曰有金錢之賜令，近期一年，遠五年。到昭帝始元二年二月，賜諸侯王，列侯進宗宣，金錢各有差。七月賜天下民牛酒，到四年六月，復賜丞相以下至郎吏，錢帛各有差。延尉李種有罪，棄市。在期內如占說。又案漢宣帝元康二年六月，歲星入輿鬼，到四年三月乃出，占曰：歲星入輿鬼，滿數十日，金錢帛之施諸侯；一曰大臣誅；一曰歲樂糴石三四十錢，一曰有大喪，近期一年，遠五年。其月詔賜天下將吏二千石，諸宗室高年錢帛，男子爵女子牛酒，是比年豐穀石五錢，大司馬衛將軍張安世薨，到神爵蓋寬饒有罪自殺。又案魏甘露四年四月甲申，木犯輿鬼東南星，東南星主兵，占曰：木入輿鬼，大臣有誅者，金錢之令，到景元元年五月，尚書王經伏誅，到六月，當逆鄉公即位，賜天下民爵，積一年二月也。）

The original book's annotations and verification state: In the second year of Houyuan of Emperor Wu of Han, in the tenth month, the star of Jupiter was in the Ghost Mansion, and the divination text said that there would be ministers being executed; another interpretation said there would be an imperial decree granting money. The nearer prediction came true within one year, and the farther within five years. In the second year of Shiyuan of Emperor Zhao, in the second month, the emperor granted money to the marquises and the marquises of the state and the marquises of the county, with different amounts. In the seventh month, the emperor granted beef and wine to all the people. In the sixth month of the fourth year, he again granted money and silk to officials from the chancellor down to the attendants, with different amounts. The official Li Zhong of the Court of Justice committed a crime and was executed and his body was displayed in the market. All these events fell within the predicted time, matching the divination text. Further verification shows that in the second year of Yuankang of Emperor Xuandi, in June, the star of Jupiter entered the Ghost Mansion, and it did not leave until March of the fourth year. The divination text said that when the star of Jupiter stays in the Ghost Mansion for dozens of days, money and silk should be given to the princes; another interpretation said that ministers would be executed; another said that the harvest would be good and the price of rice would be low, one stone of rice costing only thirty to forty coins; another said there would be a great mourning, with the nearer prediction coming true within one year and the farther within five years. In the same month, an imperial decree was issued granting money and silk to officials of the rank of two thousand stones and the elderly in the royal family. Men were granted titles of nobility, and women were given cattle and wine. After that, there were consecutive years of good harvests, with the price of rice at one stone being only five coins. The general-in-chief Wei General Zhang Anshi died. In the Shenshuo period, Gai Kuanaiao committed a crime and committed suicide. Further verification shows that in the fourth year of Ganlu of the Wei dynasty, in April, the star of Jupiter invaded the southeast star of the Ghost Mansion, and the southeast star governs military affairs. The divination text said that when the star of Jupiter enters the Ghost Mansion, ministers would be executed, and there would be an imperial decree granting money. In the fifth month of Jingyuan of the first year, the official Wang Jing of the Secretariat was executed. In the sixth month, the Prince Changdao Xianggong ascended the throne, and the emperor granted titles of nobility to all the people. The entire period lasted one year and two months.

石氏曰：“木犯守鬼、積尸，邦有兵；犯南星，王有疾，崩，若戮死者；近布帛發佈帛，近金錢發金錢，近馬發馬，近兵發兵；七寸以內為近。其守之三日以上，所發明審也。”又曰：“歲星逆行，出鬼陽，男坐之；陰，女坐之；出鬼左，貴女坐之；右，為貴人坐之；抵其中央，君坐之。”

The Shi school says: When the Jupiter star invades and stays at the Ghost Mansion and the Accumulated Corpse Cloud, there will be warfare in the country; if it invades the southern star of the Ghost Mansion, the king will fall ill, die, or be killed. If it approaches the star governing silk and cloth, it will issue silk and cloth; if it approaches the star governing money, it will issue money; if it approaches the star governing horses, it will issue horses; if it approaches the star governing weapons, it will issue weapons. If the distance is within seven inches, it is considered close. If it stays for more than three days, the things issued will be particularly clear and definite. It also says: When the Jupiter star moves retrograde, if it comes out from the yang position of the Ghost Mansion, a man will be guilty; if it comes out from the yin position, a woman will be guilty; if it comes out from the left side of the Ghost Mansion, a noblewoman will be guilty; if it comes out from the right side, a nobleman will be guilty; if it directly reaches the center of the Ghost Mansion, the monarch will be guilty.

郗萌曰：“歲星去五諸侯，入輿鬼，諸侯世子有疾死者；期六十日。去天高，入輿鬼，不出百二十日，大人惡之。”石氏曰：“歲星出入留舍輿鬼，五十日不下，有大喪；六十日不下，國相不明；百日不下，民半死。”

Xi Meng said: When the star of years departs from the five feudal lords' stars and enters the Ghost Mansion, the嫡 son of the feudal lords will die of illness, and this will happen within sixty days. If it departs from the Tian Gao star and enters the Ghost Mansion, there will be anxiety and aversion among the powerful within a hundred and twenty days. The Shi school said: If the star of years appears, stays, or resides in the Ghost Mansion for fifty days without departing, there will be a great mourning; if it remains for sixty days without departing, the prime minister will be confused and unclear; if it remains for a hundred days without departing, half the people will die.

郗萌曰：“歲星舍輿鬼東北，麻豆成，稻不成；舍東南，豆麥熟，有渴死人；舍西南，萬民多喪；舍西北，黍稷成，麥不成，早蠶不熟，晚蠶熟；舍中，歲樂，石三四錢。”《黃帝占》曰：“歲星處輿鬼南，有易君；處其北，國易相；處其西，殺老人；一曰殺妊子者。”

Xi Meng said: When the star of years enters the mansion of ghosts in the northeast, millet and beans grow well, but rice cannot be harvested; when it enters the southeast, beans and wheat mature, but there will be people dying of thirst; when it enters the southwest, many people will die; when it enters the northwest, millet and sorghum grow well, but wheat cannot be harvested, early silkworms do not spin cocoons, but late silkworms do; when it enters the center, the harvest is abundant and people are happy, and the price of rice is only three or four coins per stone. The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the star of years stops in the south of the mansion of ghosts, the ruler will be replaced; when it stops in the north, the prime minister will be replaced; when it stops in the west, the elderly will be killed; another account says that pregnant women will be killed.

甘氏曰：“歲星犯輿鬼，人君必有所戮。”巫咸曰：“歲量守輿鬼，天子賜諸侯金錢。”郗萌曰：“歲星守輿鬼，五穀多傷，民以飢死者無數；又曰多狂病死者。”《海中占》曰：“歲星守輿鬼，角動，有殺主者；色黑，誅死不成。”石氏曰：“歲星犯天尸，國有兵，王者病疾；一曰人君有戮死者。”《海中占》曰：“木守鬼，出其北，旱；出其南，雨、水，五穀熟。”

The Gan school says: When the Jupiter star invades the Ghost mansion, the sovereign must surely kill someone. The Wu Xian school says: When the Jupiter star stays at the Ghost mansion, the Son of Heaven will reward the feudal lords with money. The Xi Meng says: When the Jupiter star stays at the Ghost mansion, the five grains suffer great damage, and countless common people die of starvation; also, many people die from madness. The Sea in the Middle Divination says: When the Jupiter star stays at the Ghost mansion, if the star's light trembles, someone will assassinate the sovereign; if the star's color turns black, that assassination will not succeed. The Shi school says: When the Jupiter star invades the Tian Shi star, there will be warfare within the country, and the sovereign will fall ill; another interpretation says the sovereign will kill someone. The Sea in the Middle Divination says: When the Jupiter star stays at the Ghost mansion, if it comes from the north, there will be drought; if it comes from the south, there will be much rain, and the five grains will mature. The Tian Shi is the central part of the Ghost mansion, known as the Accumulated Corpse Qi, which presages death and mourning. One must combine the observation of whether the star's light trembles and whether its color turns black to determine whether the assassination will succeed or not.

郗萌曰：“歲星逆行輿鬼，其君不聰明，用財奢浮過度，治衰。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星逆行輿鬼，其君不聰於事。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星入輿鬼，財寶出。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星入輿鬼，亂臣在內，有屠城。”郗萌曰：“歲星乘質，斧鉞用。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星乘質，君貴人憂，金玉用，人民多疾；從南入，為男；從北入，為女；從西入，為老人；從東入，為丁壯；若棺木倍價。”

Xi Meng said: The year star is in the ghost mansion and moving in reverse, the ruler is not discerning, his expenditures are extravagant and without restraint, and his governance is declining. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the year star is in the ghost mansion and moving in reverse, the ruler is not sufficiently discerning. The "Jingzhou Divination" also says: When the year star enters the ghost mansion, the treasury and treasures will be dispersed. The "Jingzhou Divination" also says: When the year star enters the ghost mansion, there will be disloyal ministers within the court, and there will be a tragic event of city destruction. Xi Meng said: When the year star overshadows the quality star, that is, the accumulated corpse qi in the ghost mansion, the ruler will actively use the斧钺 (axe and halberd) punishment. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the year star overshadows the quality star, the ruler and the nobleman will have worries, gold and jade vessels will be used, and the people will be sickly; if it enters from the south, it will affect men; if it enters from the north, it will affect women; if it enters from the west, it will affect the elderly; if it enters from the east, it will affect the young; the price of coffins will double.

司馬彪《天文志》曰：“歲星入輿鬼，為死喪。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星干犯守輿鬼者，皆為天下有大喪；陽為後，左為天子；右為貴臣，又隨所守主物；王者發之，不出七十日。”石氏曰：“歲星守輿鬼，為大人有祭祀事。”郗萌曰：“歲星守輿鬼，大人以命終。又曰：歲星守輿鬼西南，皆為秦漢有反臣，以赦解之。”

Simabiao's "Astronomical Records" says: When the planet Jupiter enters the Ghost Mansion, it indicates death and mourning. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the planet Jupiter approaches and stays in the Ghost Mansion, it signifies great mourning throughout the realm; the position in the Yang direction belongs to the empress, the position on the left belongs to the emperor, and the position on the right belongs to the high minister. It also depends on the star that the planet Jupiter is guarding, as each star governs its own affairs. The emperor should distribute resources accordingly, and this will happen within seventy days. The Shi school says: When the planet Jupiter stays in the Ghost Mansion, it indicates that the powerful officials will have sacrificial ceremonies. Xi Meng says: When the planet Jupiter stays in the Ghost Mansion, the powerful officials will die of old age. It also says: When the planet Jupiter stays in the southwest of the Ghost Mansion, it indicates that there will be traitors in the old territories of Qin and Han, and an amnesty decree should be issued to resolve the situation. The positions it occupies are assigned to the empress, the emperor, and the high minister, which is a common practice in the Shi school's system of assigning directions to different rulers.

郗萌曰：“歲星入天庫，以飢起兵；一曰五穀收入。”石氏曰：“歲星入柳，諸侯有慶賀，天下安寧，五穀豐熟，不出其年，民人歌舞而行。”又曰：“歲星處柳東，晚稚不成；處其南，有易君；處其西，殺老人；一曰殺妊子；一曰民族，處其北，貴人徙；一曰國易相。”又曰：“歲星處柳南，地必動；處其西，民疾，歲大水；一曰大人坐。”

Xi Meng said: When the star of years enters the celestial storehouse star, it is due to famine that armies rise; another view is that the five grains are collected into granaries. The Shi school said: When the star of years enters the willow mansion, the princes have joyous events to celebrate, the world is at peace, the five grains are abundant, and within this year, the people will travel singing and dancing. They also said: When the star of years stops at the eastern side of the willow mansion, late-maturing crops cannot be harvested; when it stops at the southern side, the ruler will be replaced; when it stops at the western side, the elderly will be killed; another view is that pregnant women will be killed, and another is that the clan will be harmed; when it stops at the northern side, the nobleman will move, another view is that the state will replace its prime minister. They also said: When the star of years stops at the southern side of the willow mansion, an earthquake will certainly occur; when it stops at the western side, the people will fall ill, and this year there will be a great flood; another view is that the powerful will be punished. The willow mansion is the beak of the Vermilion Bird, governing grasses and woods and food and drink, and its corresponding region is the Zhou territory.

Xi Meng says: When the year star stays in the Willow Mansion, there will be many lawsuits; otherwise, the prison will be empty. It also says: When the year star stays in the Seal star and star of livelihood, government affairs will be harsh, and the people will have to travel a thousand miles. Chen Zhuo says: When the year star moves retrograde in the阴位 (yin position) of the Willow Mansion, the female ruler will be guilty; when it moves retrograde in the正中 (central position) of the Willow Mansion, the ruler will be guilty; if it moves retrograde in the阳位 (yang position) of the Willow Mansion, a man will be guilty; if it moves retrograde on the left or right sides of the Willow Mansion, the noble relatives will be guilty.

郗萌曰：“歲星與柳合，同光，其國將大強。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星與熒惑合柳，歲星色赤，兵起，黃、白，五穀傷；黑為憂；青而角赤，兵起；近期三十日，遠六十日。”郗萌曰：“歲星守柳，有反臣中兵也。”《海中占》曰：“歲星居柳，歲和熟。”又曰：“歲星出入留舍柳，九十日不下，將軍出。”又曰：“歲星行柳，其君不敬祭祀。”

Xi Meng said: The star of years and the willow mansion meet, with the same color, the country will be very prosperous. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the star of years and the red star meet in the willow mansion, if the star of years appears red, war will arise; if it appears yellow or white, the five grains will be damaged; if it appears black, there will be worries; if it appears green but the star has a red glow, war will arise; if it is close, the event will occur within thirty days; if it is far, within sixty days. Xi Meng said: When the star of years stays in the willow mansion, there is a traitorous minister hidden in the army. The "Sea Divination" says: When the star of years resides in the willow mansion, the harvest will be harmonious and abundant. It also says: When the star of years appears, stays, or enters the willow mansion, and does not leave within ninety days, the general will go to war. It also says: When the star of years passes through the willow mansion, the ruler will be disrespectful towards worship.

《荊州占》曰：“歲星入七星，五穀多傷，天下盜賊起。期一年。”陳卓曰：“歲星出入留舍七星，其國有以義致天下。”郗萌曰：“歲星居七星，歲和同。又曰：歲星處七星，民疾；處其西，歲水。”陳卓曰：“歲星犯七星，天子憂兵，功臣受封。”甘氏曰：“歲星守七星，皇天以%王者，其邦獲五福，九十年。”

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When the planet Jupiter enters the Seven Stars, the five grains suffer great damage, and bandits rise all over the country, which will come to pass within a year. Chen Zhuo says: When Jupiter appears, disappears, stays, or enters the Seven Stars, the country will gain the Mandate of Heaven through righteousness. Xi Meng says: When Jupiter resides in the Seven Stars, the harvest is harmonious. He also says: When Jupiter stops in the Seven Stars, the people fall ill; when it stops to the west of the Seven Stars, there will be flooding that year. Chen Zhuo says: When Jupiter invades the Seven Stars, the emperor will worry about military affairs, and meritorious ministers will be granted titles. Gan Shi says: When Jupiter guards the Seven Stars, heaven bestows blessings upon the emperor—here the original text is missing, and the original book only leaves a symbol—the country receives the five blessings and enjoys a reign of ninety years. The Seven Stars are the Star Mansions, which are the neck of the Vermilion Bird, governing garments and embroidered patterns as well as urgent matters, and their territory corresponds to the Zhou region.

陳卓曰：“歲星與七星同光者，以粟當錢。”巫咸曰：“歲星守七星，旱，多火災，萬物五穀不成，有兵飢。”《海中占》曰：“木犯七星，使者滿道，子弒父，臣弒主。”《荊州占》曰：“曰：“歲星犯七星，王者敬天，宗廟有禮，天下和平。”郗萌曰：“歲星逆行七星，其君衣服不法。”

Chen Zhuo said: The planet Jupiter and the seven stars have the same color, and millet can be used in place of money. Wu Xian said: When Jupiter stays near the seven stars, there will be drought, frequent fires, and nothing will grow, both people and grain will be ruined, and there will be wars and famine. The "Sea Divination" said: When Jupiter invades the seven stars, envoys will travel back and forth filling the roads, sons will kill their fathers, and ministers will kill their kings. The "Jingzhou Divination" said: When Jupiter invades the seven stars, the emperor will honor heaven, the ancestral temples will be properly worshipped, and the world will be peaceful. Xi Meng said: When Jupiter moves backward among the seven stars, the ruler's clothing will not conform to the proper regulations. "Using millet instead of money" means that in the market people directly exchange millet for money, showing that money is scarce while grain is abundant.

The *Yellow Emperor's Divination* says: When Jupiter invades the Seven Stars, there will be rebellious ministers causing disorder. Xi Meng says: When Jupiter is逆行 in the Seven Stars, an earthquake occurs. The *Yellow Emperor's Divination* says: When Jupiter stays in the Seven Stars, there will be rebellious ministers; another interpretation says that summer crops will not grow. The Shi school says: When Jupiter stays in the Seven Stars, there will be warfare. Xi Meng says: When Jupiter stays in the Seven Stars, there will be rebellious ministers hidden within the army. The Gan school says: When Jupiter enters the Seven Stars, the sovereign will appoint a crown prince. Xi Meng says: When Jupiter stays in the Seven Stars, the whole country will be greatly troubled, and the concern will be in the central court. In this passage, the *Yellow Emperor's Divination*, the Shi school, and Xi Meng all associate celestial changes with rebellious ministers, because the Seven Stars belong to the neck of the Vermilion Bird. If the neck is controlled, the head and tail cannot be coordinated, which corresponds to the image of rebellion.

石氏曰：“歲星入張，天子有慶賀之事，天下大樂，谷大豐。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星入張，不出一年，天子有慶賀之事，天下大樂。”巫咸曰：“歲星入張星，多火災，萬物五穀不成。”郗萌曰：“歲星出入留張舍，三十日不下，有兵；六十日不下，更立侯王。”石氏曰：“歲星守張，民人病疫；一曰其歲民多心腹疾。”

The Shi school says: When the planet Jupiter enters the mansion of Zhang, the Son of Heaven will have joyful events, and the whole world will be greatly happy, with abundant harvests of grain. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the planet Jupiter enters the mansion of Zhang, within a year, the Son of Heaven will have joyful events, and the whole world will be greatly happy. Wu Xian says: When the planet Jupiter enters the mansion of Zhang, there will be many fires, and all things and the five grains will not grow. Xi Meng says: When the planet Jupiter appears, stays, and enters the mansion of Zhang, and does not leave for thirty days, there will be warfare; if it does not leave for sixty days, another prince or king will be established. The Shi school says: When the planet Jupiter guards the mansion of Zhang, the common people will suffer from epidemic diseases; another view is that the common people will suffer from diseases of the heart and abdomen. The mansion of Zhang is the crop of the Vermilion Bird, governing the Star of livelihood and feasting, as well as treasures and utensils, and its territory corresponds to the Zhou region.

郗萌曰：“歲星民張，歲和熟。”甘氏曰：“歲星守張，其國大豐，守之一年；七年昇平，君臣同心。”又曰：“歲星處張南，地必動，若六畜貴；處張西，其歲水。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星守張，四十日至百二十日，陰陽和，群臣忠良，王者吉。”郗萌曰：“歲星守張，政事急，民有千里之行；一曰貴人死。”

Xi Meng said: When the star of years resides in Zhang Xu (the original text has a possible error with the character 'min'), the harvest is harmonious and abundant. The Gan school said: When the star of years stays in Zhang Xu, the country will have a great harvest; if it remains for a whole year, there will be seven years of peace, with the king and ministers united in heart. It also said: When the star of years stops on the southern side of Zhang Xu, an earthquake will certainly occur, or the price of livestock will become expensive; when it stops on the western side of Zhang Xu, there will be flooding in that year. The "Jingzhou Divination" said: When the star of years stays in Zhang Xu, from forty days to one hundred and twenty days, yin and yang are in harmony, the ministers are loyal and virtuous, and the emperor is auspicious. Xi Meng said: When the star of years stays in Zhang Xu, the government affairs are harsh and urgent, and the people will have to travel a thousand miles; another view is that a nobleman will die.

《荊州占》曰：“歲星逆行張，其君衣服不法。”郗萌曰：“歲星逆行張，其君用樂淫佚。”又曰：“歲星守張，有反臣中兵也。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星與墳星合於張，歲不和，貴人多內喪；一曰大水，六年。”郗萌曰：“歲星與墳星合於張，天下有變，不傷為政者，則害於民；一曰民憂盜賊，若功臣受封。”又曰：“後且大旱。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星與墳合守張，天下易令，民流千里。”

The book Zhongjiao Zhan says: When the planet Jupiter is in the mansion of Zhang and moves retrograde, the ruler's attire is not in accordance with propriety. Xi Meng says: When Jupiter is in the mansion of Zhang and moves retrograde, the ruler indulges in music and revelry, and is extravagant in pleasures. It also says: When Jupiter is stationed in the mansion of Zhang, there is a traitorous minister hidden within the army. Zhongjiao Zhan says: When Jupiter and the star of tombs meet in the mansion of Zhang, the harvest is poor, and noblemen suffer losses within their households; another interpretation is that there will be a great flood, causing trouble for six years. Xi Meng says: When Jupiter and the star of tombs meet in the mansion of Zhang, there will be disturbances throughout the country; if it does not affect the officials, it will harm the common people; another interpretation is that the people will be troubled by bandits, or meritorious ministers will be granted titles. It also says: There will be a great drought afterwards. Zhongjiao Zhan says: When Jupiter and the star of tombs meet and are stationed in the mansion of Zhang, the country will change its policies, and the people will flee for a thousand li. The star of tombs often conflicts with the mansion of Zhang, and the divination texts always mention losses within households, great floods, and mass migrations, indicating that this star is primarily associated with funeral matters.

石氏曰：“歲星入翼，五穀風傷。期一年。”郗萌曰：“歲星出入留舍翼，六十日不下，地亡六十里。”石氏曰：“歲星出入留舍翼，且有急事徵召。”郗萌曰：“歲星居翼，歲和熟。”石氏曰：“歲星守翼，有兵若大水；一曰川枯不通。”甘氏曰：“歲星守翼，聖臣代主。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星守民辦，王道大興，王者得天心，將相忠良，不出九十日，文術大用。”

The Gan school says: When the star of years guards the Wings mansion, a virtuous minister will replace the ruler. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the star of years guards the Wings mansion (the original text says 'guards the people's affairs,' with some characters missing or corrupted), the way of the king will greatly flourish, the emperor will gain the mandate of heaven, the ministers and generals will be loyal and virtuous, and within ninety days, the arts of governance will be greatly valued. The Wings mansion is the wing of the Vermilion Bird, governing music officials, performers, and foreign guests, and its corresponding region is Jingchu.

郗萌曰：“歲星守翼南，六畜貴。”《海中占》曰：“歲星守翼，處其東，魚監瓦器貴；處其南，車貴；處其西，不占；處其北，五穀不成。”郗萌曰：“歲星逆行翼，其君用樂淫泆，若失火。”甘氏曰：“歲星入翼，有海客。”郗萌曰：“歲星入翼，四海有急，國憂。”石氏曰：“歲星守翼，萬物不成。”石氏曰：“歲星守翼，人民流亡。”

Xi Meng said: The planet Jupiter stays in the southern side of the Wings mansion, and the prices of livestock become high. The "Sea Divination" says: When Jupiter stays in the Wings mansion and is located on its eastern side, the prices of fish, salt, and pottery vessels become high; when it is on the southern side, the prices of vehicles become high; when it is on the western side, no divination is made; when it is on the northern side, the five grains will not grow. Xi Meng said: When Jupiter enters the Wings mansion and moves retrograde, the ruler indulges in music and indulgence, or there will be a fire. The Gan school said: When Jupiter enters the Wings mansion, there will be a guest coming from across the sea. Xi Meng said: When Jupiter enters the Wings mansion, there will be urgent difficulties throughout the four seas, and the country will face calamities. The Shi school said: When Jupiter stays in the Wings mansion, all things will not grow. The Shi school also said: When Jupiter stays in the Wings mansion, the people will flee and lose their homes.

郗萌曰：“歲星入軫，天下多喪。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星入軫，邦有將死。期六年。”陳卓曰：“歲星入軫兵，大起。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星在軫，王者憂疾，不出九十日。”巫咸曰：“歲星入軫中，伺其出而數之，期二十日為兵發；伺始入處之率，一日期十日，軍罷。”郗萌曰：“歲星舍軫，七日不移，赦。”

Xi Meng said: The planet Jupiter enters the Chariot mansion, and there will be many funerals throughout the country. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the planet Jupiter enters the Chariot mansion, there will be the death of a great general, and this will occur within six years. Chen Zhuo said: When the planet Jupiter enters the Chariot mansion, there will be great military conflicts. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the planet Jupiter is in the Chariot mansion, the emperor will be troubled by illness, and this will happen within ninety days. Wu Xian said: When the planet Jupiter enters the Chariot mansion, calculate the time from when it leaves, and the military conflict will occur within twenty days; alternatively, according to its original position of entry, another calculation suggests the military conflict will occur within ten days, and the army will disband. Xi Meng said: When the planet Jupiter enters the Chariot mansion and remains there for seven days without moving, there will be an amnesty. The Chariot mansion governs chariots and wind, and also governs death and mourning. Its corresponding region is Jingchu.

《黃帝占》曰：“歲星處軫東，耀貴；處軫西，有女喪，有水。”《海中占》曰：“歲星犯守軫，天子養孤老、不平，大臣背叛，師旅起，車騎盡發。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星干犯過軫，大臣戮死。”甘氏曰：“歲星守胃，國主疾，王者修宗廟，赦三百里內，則災消。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the planet Jupiter stops in the eastern side of the Chariot mansion, there will be brilliance and prominence; when it stops in the western side, there will be the death of a woman and water disasters. The Divination of the Sea says: When the planet Jupiter invades and stays in the Chariot mansion, the emperor's policy of supporting the elderly will be uneven, ministers will rebel, military campaigns will start, and all chariots and cavalry will be mobilized. The Divination of Jingzhou says: When the planet Jupiter transgresses and passes through the Chariot mansion, ministers will be killed. The Gan school says: When the planet Jupiter stays in the Chariot mansion (the original text mistakenly says 'stays in the stomach mansion'), the king will be ill, the emperor will renovate the ancestral temples, and will pardon criminals within a radius of three hundred li from the capital, and the calamity will be resolved.

巫咸曰：“歲星守軫，民多疾病。”《海中占》曰：“歲星守軫，主庫者有罪。”郗萌曰：“歲星守軫，有土功事，若旱；萬物不成，民飢。”《黃帝占》曰：“歲星守軫南，六畜皆貴。”郗萌曰：“歲星守軫背，五穀不成。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星逆行軫，失火。”郗萌曰：“歲星逆行軫，其君持喪服，不謹；若貴親生之。”又曰：“木守軫，川楫不通也。”

Wu Xian said: The planet Jupiter stays in the Chariot mansion, and the people will suffer many diseases. The "Sea Divination" says: When Jupiter stays in the Chariot mansion, those in charge of the treasury will be guilty of a crime. Xi Meng said: When Jupiter stays in the Chariot mansion, there will be construction projects involving earth and wood, or there will be drought; all things will not grow properly, and the people will suffer from famine. The "Yellow Emperor's Divination" says: When Jupiter is stationed to the south of the Chariot mansion, the prices of livestock will rise. Xi Meng said: When Jupiter is stationed behind the Chariot mansion, the five grains will not grow properly. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When Jupiter moves backward in the Chariot mansion, there will be fires. Xi Meng said: When Jupiter moves backward in the Chariot mansion, the ruler will wear mourning clothes but be disrespectful; or a noble relative will have a mistake. It also says: When Jupiter stays in the Chariot mansion, the rivers and canals will be blocked, and the boats will not be able to sail. There is a star called Changsha near the Chariot mansion, and two stars called Zuo Xia and You Xia, which are both related to carriages. Therefore, the conditions of carriages, roads, and boats are all attributed to this mansion.

《海中占》曰：“歲星犯攝提，臣謀其君，若主出走，有兵起。期一年。”

The Sea Divination says: When the star of years invades the position of the Captor, ministers will plot against their sovereign, or the sovereign will flee, and wars will arise, with the event occurring within a year. The Captor consists of six stars, arranged on either side of the Big Horn, governing the establishment of seasons and the correction of the calendar, and being the place where the Son of Heaven issues commands. Therefore, when the star of years invades it, it indicates mutual plotting between sovereign and ministers.

《海中占》曰：“歲星守大角，臣謀主者，有兵起，人主憂，王者戒慎左右，期不出百八十日，遠一年。”

The Sea Divination says: When the year star guards the Big Horn, there will be ministers plotting against the sovereign, and wars will arise, causing the sovereign to worry. The sovereign should be especially cautious and vigilant towards those around him, and the time for this to happen will not exceed one hundred and eighty days, or perhaps as long as a year. The Big Horn is the throne of the heavenly sovereign, located between the two groups of the Taiyi stars, and symbolizes the court of the sovereign. Therefore, when the year star guards it, there will be suspicion and distrust among the people above and below.

巫咸曰：“歲星守梗河，國有謀兵，四夷兵起，來侵中國，邊境有憂。”

Wu Xian said: The planet Jupiter is stationed at Geng He, indicating military planning within the country. The four surrounding barbarian tribes will raise armies to invade the Central Plains, causing worries at the borders. The three stars of Geng He are located north of Da Jiao, representing the armies of the Hu people. They also symbolize weapons such as the spear and halberd of the Son of Heaven. Therefore, this star specifically corresponds to military alarms at the borders.

《聖洽符》曰：“歲星犯招搖，邊兵大起，敵人為寇；若守之，敵人敗，敵人死：期不出二年。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星入招搖，兵起，馬多死。”

The Shengqia Fu says: When the year star invades Zhao Yao, there will be large-scale military campaigns on the borders, and enemies will come to plunder. If the year star remains in its position, the enemy will instead suffer defeat, and the enemy commander will die, and this prediction will come true within two years. The Jingzhou Zhàn says: When the year star enters Zhao Yao, warfare will arise, and many horses will die. The star Zhao Yao is located to the north of Genghe, and it indicates the movements of the Hu people's armies and the four surrounding barbarian tribes.

《聖洽符》曰：“歲星守犯玄戈，邊兵大起，突厥為寇；若守之，突厥敗，若其主死，期不出三年。”

The Shengqia Fu says: When the star of the year stays and invades Xuan Ge, there will be large-scale military campaigns on the borders, and the Turkic people will come to plunder; if the star of the year stays there, the Turkic people will instead suffer defeat, or their ruler will die, and this will happen within three years. The star Xuan Ge is located to the north of Zhayaohao, and it also indicates military affairs in the north. This passage directly mentions the Turkic people, showing that it is a divination text added by Tang people according to the border situations of their time.

巫咸曰：“歲星犯天槍，邊夷兵起，機槍大用，防戍有憂；若誅邊臣，期不出年。”

Wu Xian said: The planet Jupiter invades the Heavenly Spear, and the border regions will see the rise of barbarian armies, with a large use of weapons such as crossbows and long spears. Soldiers defending the borders will face troubles. Alternatively, the court may execute border generals, and this will happen within a year. The Three Stars of the Heavenly Spear are located at the northern end of the handle of the Big Dipper, representing heavenly weapons.

巫咸曰：“歲星守天棓，邊夷兵起，機槍大用，防戌有憂；若誅邊臣，期不出年。”

Wu Xian said: The planet Jupiter is stationed at Tianbang, indicating that the border regions will see the rise of barbarian tribes who will mobilize large numbers of weapons such as crossbows and long spears, causing anxiety among the soldiers defending the borders; or the court may execute border generals, and this event will occur within a year. The five stars of Tianbang are located north of Nuocuang, and they are also the vanguard weapons of the Son of Heaven. The divination text for this is the same as the previous one about Tianqiang, showing that these two groups of stars both govern matters related to border troops.

《荊州占》曰：“歲星犯女床，凶。”甘氏曰：“歲星守女床，兵起，宮中若妃后暴誅者，期百八十日，遠一年。”

The Zhongjiao Divination says: When the planet Jupiter invades the Female Bed, it indicates calamity. The Gan school says: When Jupiter resides at the Female Bed, military conflicts will arise, and there may be sudden executions of concubines or empresses within the palace. The predicted time is one hundred and eighty days, or as long as a year. The three stars of the Female Bed are located to the northeast of the Record Star, governing the positions of palace concubines. Therefore, the divination of this star specifically relates to changes within the imperial harem.

《黃帝占》曰：“歲星守七公，為民飢，君不安。”石氏曰：“歲星犯守七公，輔臣有謀，議臣相疑，若有誅者，主人有憂。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the planet Jupiter stays at the Seven Officials, the people suffer from hunger and the ruler cannot rest in peace. The Shi school says: When Jupiter invades and stays at the Seven Officials, the chief ministers who assist the ruler harbor schemes, and the advisors are suspicious of each other, or someone may be executed, causing the ruler to worry. The Seven Officials, which are seven stars located east of Zhao Yao, symbolize the three ministers of the Son of Heaven. They are in charge of deliberating on matters of gain and loss. Therefore, when Jupiter affects them, the consequences manifest among the ministers who assist the ruler.

巫咸曰：“歲星犯守貫索，天下亂，兵大起，有獄事，貴人有死者。”石氏曰：“歲星入天平中犯乘守者，以獄為亂，多不平。”

Wu Xian said: The year star invades and occupies the Heavenly Prison, there will be great chaos throughout the world, large-scale military campaigns, and cases of litigation. Among the noblemen, there will be deaths. The Shi school said: The year star enters the Balance and invades, dominates, and occupies it, causing calamity and disorder due to litigation. Judgments will be often unjust. The Heavenly Prison consists of nine stars, also called the Linked Rope and Heavenly Prison, which indicate the arrest and detention of criminals; the Balance is a symbol of measuring right and wrong. Therefore, these two divination statements both pertain to criminal justice.
