Han Xing occupies the thirty-third position.

The star of the state of Han is only one, located to the north of the star of Jin. It corresponds to the territory of Han, which is in the central and western parts of present-day Henan Province. Han originally split off from Jin, so its star is closely adjacent to the star of Jin.

The star of Yan State is only one, located to the southeast of the star of Chu, close to the star of Jin; it corresponds to the territory of Yan, that is, the area now known as northern Hebei and western Liaoning. Wu Xian always said: the stars of states such as Qi and Zhao correspond above to the constellations in the sky, and below to the regions of the nine provinces; when any of these stars changes, calamities or auspicious signs will be manifested in the country that it governs.

The Star of Fire (Li) and the Star of Jade (Yu) are used for divination, involving a total of thirty-seven methods.

Wu Xian said: "Li Yu" consists of three stars, located to the east of Dai star, arranged in a line from north to south. The original commentary notes: "Li" refers to an ornament made of the feathers of a hawk, and "Yu" refers to a jade ornament worn by women, both of which are articles used by women. The "Wu Xian Zan" says that Li Yu are ornaments for display, which women wear neatly to visit their parents-in-law. This group of stars specifically governs women's clothing and appearance.

The Star Divination of Tianlei City covers thirty-eight sections.

Wu Xian said: "Xu Liang" consists of four stars, located to the south of theRooftop mansion. The original book's marginal note says: "Xu Liang" refers to the garden and cemetery, not a place where living people reside, hence it is called "Xu Liang." The "Wu Xian Zan" says: Although "Xu Liang" has the form of palaces and buildings, it is actually a mausoleum, and people perform careful rituals and prayers for the spirits of the ancestors in these buildings.

Heavenly Money Star Divination: forty

Wu Xian said: "The Heavenly Coins" consist of ten stars, located in the northwest of the Northern Dipper. Wu Xian said: "The Tian Gang star is only one star, located in the southwest of Bei Luo Xing. The original book's marginal note says: Tian Gang is a thick rope used to set up tents; the Son of Heaven needs it when touring the country to reward soldiers and when staying temporarily in the field. The 'Wu Xian Zan' says: Tian Gang sets up the military tent, and the palace and government offices arrange their guards according to it. This star governs the tents and guards used for the Son of Heaven's travels and temporary stays."

The Star of the Axe and the Sword: Divination by the 42 Stars

Wu Xian said: This group of three stars called "Fuzhi" is located in the northwest of the Eight Masters, also known as "Fuyue." It shares the same name but different position from the five stars of "Fuzhi" in the southwest of Tian Cang recorded by the Gan school. The Yuan Ming Bao says: The stars Fuzhi are in charge of executing those who commit crimes and disorder, and punishing those who act unjustly and deceive others. Xi Meng said: These stars usually appear dim and unclear; once they become bright or show signs of change, it foretells that the Fuzhi stars will be used, leading to executions. It also says: If the Fuzhi stars change from their original appearance, war will be initiated, and the axes and halberds will be put into use. The Jingzhou Zhuan says: When the stars change from their original appearance, generals who lead troops will face troubles. The Wu Xian Zan says: The Fuzhi stars resist difficulties and eliminate plots of villains.

The Star of Heavenly Stables is used for divination and is associated with the number forty-three.

Wu Xian said: "The Tianjiu (Heavenly Stables) consist of ten stars, located to the north of the eastern Bixu mansion, near the Wangliang star. The Hechengtu says: The Tianjiu official oversees the relay stations and inns. Wu Xian also said: If the Tianjiu stars change from their original form, there will be alarms concerning the ancestral temples, and the ruler will worry about horses; otherwise, the horses will get sick. The Wuxian Zan says: The Tianjiu establishes relay stations, chasing the divisions of the water clock and running swiftly. The Tianjiu oversees horse affairs, just as the current Yimashu (Post-horse) runs swiftly, racing against the sundial and water clock."

The star Tian Yin (Heavenly Yin) is used for divination and is associated with the number forty-four.

Wu Xian said: "Tian Yin" consists of five stars, located to the west of the handle of the Net mansion. The "Wu Xian Zan" says that Tian Yin governs the emperor's hunting and military exercises, and is also like Fu Er star, symbolizing secret plots close to the ear. Therefore, this group of stars is associated with both royal hunting and military training, as well as covert conspiracies.

The Kaiyuan Treatise on Astrology, Volume 71

Meteor Divination One

The name of a falling star is one.

The River Chart says: all kinds of meteors are the refined essence of the Hook Chen star, controlled by the heavenly spirit Tian Yi. Meteors that are as big as a jar or a jar and fly across without leaving a trace are called "Fei Xing"; those that leave a trace on the sky after flying are called "Liu Xing". Meng Kang says: meteors are streaks of light connected together, and those that are as big as a gourd or a peach are called "Shi Xing", also called "Fei Xing", and they indicate matters of deliberation and discussion. Meteors indicate military affairs, while Shixing indicates travel and official business, and both should be judged based on which constellation they originate from and which constellation they enter. The original book's marginal note says: those that fall from above downward are called "Liu", and those that rise from below upward are called "Fei".

The "Erya" says: "Bencheng," also called "Tuo yue" — the pronunciation of the character "Tuo" is obtained by taking the sound of "Bian" and "Tiao" as a reverse-slicing method. The original book's marginal notes say: a shooting star that is large in size and moves quickly is called "Bencheng." Guo Pu says: "Tuo yue" is another name for a shooting star. Shi Shen says: a shooting star that is as big as a jar or a basin, initially straight, then trailing a white tail, and splitting into two parts at its front, is called "Shixing"; the country it flies toward will receive blessings and good fortune.

The "Imperial Inspection of Delight" says: When a meteor shines brightly at night, appearing with a tail, and looks like a string of beads, this is called "Heavenly Dog"; the place where it falls will experience a large-scale military campaign, and the king will have to move the capital, and the disaster will occur within three years. Wu Xian says: When a meteor shines with light, falls face-forward to the ground, or even if it does not fall to the ground, appears to have legs, this is also called "Heavenly Dog"; the region it heads toward will have warfare and bloodshed, and the ruler of that region will lose his territory, and the disaster will occur within three years.

Wu Xian also said: When a large shooting star falls and breaks up, it looks like metal shattering, and as it scatters, it makes a sound. Wild pheasants are startled and cry out, which is called "Heavenly Dog." Where it falls, there will certainly be warfare and bloodshed. Ban Gu's "Book of Han: Records of the Heavenly Phenomena" says: A shooting star with a sound falls to the ground, appearing like a dog, and when it falls, it looks like a mass of fire, with bright flames rising halfway into the sky. The "Records of the Grand Historian: Book of Celestial Officials" says: There is a kind of vapor rising straight up to the sky, and below it, a circular area is brightly illuminated for several square li. The upper part is sharp and has a yellow color, which is called "Heavenly Dog." When it appears, armies will be mobilized within a thousand li, with the army溃败 and generals killed. Another account describes its shape as like a large mirror. The "Xuanming Divination" says: A shooting star appears at night, with its head and feet resembling rising flames, which is called "Heavenly Dog." Where it falls, warfare will occur, and there will certainly be battles, with the event happening within two years.

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: A falling star as big as a jar, with a large head and small tail, about three or four feet long, and a bright, distinct trail behind it, of red and white color, is called "Tian Bang"; when it appears, the country will have military conflict and bloodshed, with generals dying in battle. The occurrence is near within one year, or far within three years. The Luo Book says: A flying star as big as a jar or a vessel, flying without leaving a trace, with a color like firework, and falling down, is called "Tian Bao"; the place it moves toward will receive blessings and benefits. If there is good news, the time of occurrence will not be more than one year.

The Wen Yao Gou says: A shooting star carries light, illuminating the walls at night and producing a sound, causing all the pheasants to cry out in alarm; this is called "Tianbao." The land where the star falls will see a large military campaign. The Jingzhou Zhuan says: A shooting star has a yellow-white glow, falls from the sky with a sound, like torches and fireworks, landing on the ground; the chickens all cry out in alarm; this is also called "Tianbao." The country where the star falls will be peaceful, have good fortune, or suffer from floods. Shi Shen says: A shooting star is as big as a jar or a basin, trailing a long white mist across the sky, indicating that the officials of the emperor will go to demarcate and regulate the borders. The Jingzhou Zhuan says: It is the general who will go to demarcate and regulate the borders.

The *Sea Divination* says: When a falling star emits a sound like thunder, and the sound falls to the ground, causing wild chickens to cry in alarm, this is called "Heavenly Drum." The country where the star lands will surely mobilize a large army and experience warfare, with corpses scattered across the fields, and this will come to pass within three years. Wu Xian says: A falling star with a color of blue mixed with red, measuring two or three zhang in length, is called "Heavenly Goose," and it is the spirit of a general. The country where this occurs will surely raise an army, and the general in command should move in the direction the star is heading. The *Jingzhou Divination* says: A falling star with a blue color is called "Earth Goose," and where it falls, there will be military action.

The Shengqia Fu says: A falling star appears as large as a jar, with a red and black light, and a sharp beak-like tip at the front; this is called "Dunwen." When it appears, the country will have military conflict and the ruler will lose territory, and this will come to pass within two years. The Jingzhou Zhan says: A flying star appears as large as a jar or a vessel, with a white and bright rear and a low front, and high back; this is called "Dunwen." The side it follows will suffer many deaths, and cities will be reduced in size but no battle will take place.

The Shengqia Fu says: The flying star is large like a jar. The original commentary cites the Jingzhou Zhuan, which says it is both large and red, like a jar. Afterward, it turns white and bright, about one zhang in length (the commentary cites the Jingzhou Zhuan as saying it is several zhang long). When this star fades out, it transforms into clouds that flow throughout the world, called "Haohua" (the commentary notes that the Jingzhou Zhuan calls it "Dahua," and the Hai Zhong Zhuan calls it "Pudian"). When this star appears, the country will surely experience a great war, with bloodshed and bones accumulating. The duration is one year, or up to two years if it is more distant.

Qi Bo said: The flying star appears large like a jar, with a white and bright appearance in the rear and a lower position in front, and a higher position at the back. It is called "Hao Kang" (In the commentary, it is referred to as "Jiang Shi" in the "Jingzhou Divination"). This star moves forward with a shaking head, sometimes rising and sometimes falling; it indicates a great famine, leading to people eating people (In the commentary, it is stated as "people's grain is insufficient"). The period of occurrence is three years.

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: Flying stars appear as large as a jar or a basin, with a white light that is bright and clear; after the starlight fades, a white vapor twists and coils into the shape of a chariot wheel, which is called "Jie Xian"; in that country, people will fight each other for rank and salary, which is called self-destruction. The *Jingzhou Divination* also says: A meteor appears as large as a jar, with a red and black light, and a sharp beak-like tip at the front, named "Liang Star"; where it falls, there will be military conflict, and the king will lose territory.

The Tai Gong Yin Mi says: Whenever an army goes to attack enemies, if a large shooting star is seen, the general should march in the direction the star is pointing, and will surely win. It also says: If a shooting star falls downward into the camp, the camp will certainly be empty, the general will not achieve any merit, and it is auspicious to avoid it. The Tui Du Zai says: Where a rushing star falls, there will be military affairs. The Wen Yao Gou says: The front of a shooting star resembles a jar or a basin, and its rear is white and bright. As it is about to disappear, it spreads out in all directions, scattering like gold dust. This is called the "Shi Star." The constellation it enters will receive blessings, and the effect will be for one year, or up to two years if it is further away.

The Spring and Autumn Annals of the Writings says: A great rushing star appears with a sound, looking like a mass of firelight. When it appears, armies will collapse and forces will attack each other from all directions. The original commentary says: The Continuation of the Book of Han records that in the second year of Zhongping during the reign of Emperor Ling of Han, Bian Zhang and Han Sui led several tens of thousands of cavalry to attack the Three Auxiliary Regions. On the night of the fifth month, there was a meteor like firelight, several dozen feet long, which shone into the camps of Bian Zhang and Han Sui. The horses and donkeys were startled and screamed wildly. The rebels considered it an ill omen and intended to flee. Cao Dang heard of this and was greatly pleased. The next day, he joined forces and attacked, defeating the enemy army and killing several thousand, while Bian Zhang and Han Sui fled. The Records of the Three Kingdoms, Wei Annals, records that Sima Xuan Wang (Sima Yi) besieged Gong Sun Wen Yi (Gong Sun Yuan). On the night, there was a large meteor, dozens of feet long, falling from the northeast of Shou Mountain to the southeast of Xiangping City. When Gong Sun Wen Yi fled, he died exactly at the place where the meteor fell and was killed. Another example from recent times confirms that the defeats of ancient border generals were mostly accompanied by falling rushing stars in their camps.

Shi Shen said: Falling stars appear in great numbers, like a large amount of light being dropped, and there will be casualties from warfare below. He also said: A red falling star, with a round tail like a chariot wheel, indicates that the country it is heading towards will have military conflict, and the generals there will have different intentions. Gan De said: A yellow falling star, with a tail like a white silk ribbon, indicates that the country it is heading towards will expand its territory and have joyful events, and this will come to pass in 180 days.

Ban Gu's "Book of Han: Astronomical Records" says that during the first year of Emperor Zhao of Han's reign (the original text mistakenly writes "Shiyuan" as "Shiwu"), a meteor fell on the roof ridge of the Wan Zai Palace in Yan region and then moved eastward. The commentary in the original text cites Li Qi, who says that "ji" refers to the roof beam, and in the three auxiliary regions, the roof beam is called "ji". Some also say "ji" refers to the main beam, and "xun liang dong qu" means moving east along the main beam. Yan Du says "ji" refers to the railing in front of the hall. The divination method says this portends panic within the country and impending executions. Later, General Left Officer Shangguang Jie conspired with the Grand Princess and Prince Yan of the Assassination Kingdom to rebel, and all were executed according to the law.

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: A large streak of light in a red glow, flowing eastward, indicates that armies should be mobilized in Wu and Yue; flowing southward, armies should be mobilized in Chu and Song; flowing westward, armies should be mobilized in Qin and Zheng; flowing northward, armies should be mobilized in Yan and Zhao. The original commentary notes that the *Song Shu·Astronomical Records* records that in the first year of Yongjia of Emperor Huai of Jin, in the ninth month of the *Xinmao* year, there was a large streak of light flying from the southwest to the northeast, with a small star as big as a ladle following it. The sky turned completely red, and the sound was like thunder. In the fifth month of that year, Ji Sang killed the Eastern Yan King Sheng, then occupied Hebei. In the eleventh month, the court appointed He Yu as General Commander of the Northern Expedition to garrison Yecheng. On the western side, Tian Zhen and others defeated Ji Sang, killing him at Leiling. Tian Zhen was then appointed as Governor of Jiju, and his brother Tian Lan as Governor of Julu. The small star following the large star symbolizes the subordinate generals and their commanders. Sima Yue resented the areas east of Fuju and south of Pingyuan that had all supported Ji Sang, and gave them all to Tian Zhen and others as rewards. Thus these people raided the former territories of Ji Sang. The streak of light with thunderous sound symbolizes anger.

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: A streak of flowing starlight shining brightly, white in color, stretching across the entire sky, is the star of the sovereign; where the star flies, the sovereign will follow. If the sovereign does not go, then it is the general or prime minister who follows. A star as large as a jar indicates the rise of plans and the initiation of major affairs; a star as small as a peach indicates an envoy on a mission. The *Jingzhou Divination* also says: A meteor with a tail two or three zhang long, shining brightly and spanning the sky, white in color, is the messenger of the sovereign; red in color, it is the messenger of the general.

A falling star moves across the sky during the day three times.

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: There is a type of shooting star called "Ying Tou"; where Ying Tou appears, there will be widespread bloodshed and a land of three thousand li covered in red. If it passes over the four cardinal passes, the roads throughout the world will be cut off and unpassable, and this will come to pass within no more than three years. This is the most ominous type of shooting star that appears during the day.

Xinsi refers to the day of the 4th day of the 11th lunar month in the second year of Tai'an during the reign of Emperor Hui of the Jin dynasty. The Records of the Later Han, compiled by Sima Biao in the Astronomical Annals section, state that in the fourth year of Dihuang during Wang Mang's reign, Wang Mang sent Wang Xun and Wang Yi, the Minister of Works and Minister of Works respectively, to lead an army, claiming a force of a million soldiers, and drove rhinoceroses, elephants, tigers, and wolves along the road to create a formidable appearance. During the day, clouds appeared like collapsing mountains falling over their army's head, and everyone felt as if they were being pressed down, which was exactly the so-called 'Ying Tou' star. At that time, Liu Xiu, the future Emperor Guangwu, led a few thousand men to Kunyang, directly attacking the armies of Wang Xun and Wang Yi, launching a fierce attack, with shouts shaking the heavens, and tigers, wolves, and leopards scattering in fear. At the same time, a strong wind blew the roof tiles away, and heavy rain poured like a waterfall. The armies of Wang Xun and Wang Yi collapsed, with many thousands of people trampling each other to death, rushing into the Zhi River, resulting in so many corpses that the river could not flow. Wang Xun was killed, and the soldiers all dispersed, returning to their respective states; Wang Yi retreated to Chang'an. Wang Mang's army was defeated, and the emperor and his ministers were all executed together (the original text 'su' should be 'zhu'). It also records that on the 4th day of the 11th lunar month in the second year of Tai'an during the reign of Emperor Hui of the Jin dynasty, a star fell in the sky, falling northward with a sound like thunder. The following year, Liu Yuan and Shi Le attacked and plundered the Bingzhou region, causing great destruction, while Wang Jun raised an army in Yan and Dai, leading to the suffering of the people, with many dying in the streets.

The Luo Writing says: A meteor flying during the day is a warning to a fallen king. Gan De says: A star flying during the day is called "Yingshou"; where Yingshou appears, there will be torrents of blood, and roads will be impassable; another view says it will be a great drought, with thousands of miles of barren land. What is meant by flying during the day refers to when the sun has not yet set. Wu Xian says: A meteor flying during the day is called "Zhenming"; the region corresponding to it will have military conflict, the country will fall and the king will perish, the event will occur within a year, or at the farthest within three years. Jingfang says: A star flying during the day merely means that the people will not be at peace. The Jingzhou Divination says: When the sky is bright as day in the evening, there is a very large and long meteor, with many soldiers following it, then they disperse and return without success. It also says: When a meteor appears during the day and falls into the center of a city or capital, a person who becomes king will enter that capital. The Jade Calendar says: When a meteor flies during the day and falls into a city or capital, if it is red in color, within two years, a foreign minister will come; if it is white in color, ministers will plot against the king, but the plot will fail and the ministers will be executed.

Ban Gu's "Book of Han: Records of Astronomy" says: In the first year of Yuanyan of Emperor Cheng of Han, in the fourth month, on the day of Dingyou, during the period of Shen (the hour of the monkey), the sky was clear, yet there was a distant rumbling like thunder and lightning. A meteor appeared, its head as big as a jar, and its length several tens of feet, bright and of a reddish-white color, flying from below the sun toward the southeast. Around it, there were scattered fragments, some like large basins, some like eggs, shining like rain falling in a shower, continuing until dusk. All the commanderies and states reported the falling of stars. The "Spring and Autumn Annals" records "stars falling like rain," an omen of the loss of power by the sovereign and the rise of the feudal lords in contention. Later, Wang Mang indeed seized control of the state, and the rise of the Wang clan began at this time. When this astronomical anomaly of falling stars already appeared, it was the beginning of Wang Mang's eventual usurpation of the state.

A falling star approaches the sun, with four stars involved.

The book Zhongjiao Zhan says: When a rushing star enters the path of the Star of Brightness and Prestige, there will be ministers who wish to plot against their sovereign; whenever a meteor passes by the Star of Brightness and Prestige without directly hitting the sun, it also indicates that subordinates intend to plot against their sovereign, but the plot will not succeed, and instead the subordinates will be executed.

The Yellow River Chart says: If there are no clouds in the sky and a shooting star passes by below or above the moon, the country will have good fortune. The Luo Writing says: If a shooting star enters the moon, the sovereign will face troubles within three years. The Sea Divination says: If a shooting star enters the moon and the starlight disappears immediately, the country will perish within the same year; if the star flies out of the moon again, the fallen state may be restored. The Sea Divination also says: If the star of authority enters the moon, the female sovereign will fall ill. The Jingzhou Divination says: If a shooting star enters the moon without light, the four directions of the barbarians will invade the Central Plains, and this will happen within ten months. Xi Meng said: A shooting star colliding with the planet Jupiter (the planet of years) indicates that a minister will kill the king; another interpretation says that the chancellor will be executed and die. It also says: When a shooting star collides with Jupiter, Jupiter disappears and the shooting star takes its place, the king will die and the chancellor will flee. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the star of officials enters Jupiter, if it appears dark blue, the chief of agriculture and the chancellor will die; if it appears red, there will be many epidemics in that year and widespread famine; if it appears yellow or white, it also indicates famine; if it appears green, there will be abundant grain.

It is also said that a shooting star colliding with the Malefic of violence (Flame Star) indicates that the Son of Heaven should appoint a great general to lead an army, and there will be drought and famine in the country. It is also said that the planet entering the Flame Star indicates that there will be many sycophantic ministers in the country, and the Son of Heaven should beware of fires.
