Divination by the day stem: second day.

Daytime, daylight, dusk

The "Spring and Autumn Annals of the感应符" says: "The Sun is the brilliance formed by the gathering of yang energy; its light is used to illuminate the lower world. If this illuminating light is instead swallowed up, and daylight becomes dark, it is the most terrifying occurrence." The "Spring and Autumn Wei" says: "If the royal family's clan dominates and plots to harm the state, then the sun will be dark during the day." Jing Fang says: "If the power of villains grows strong, the sun will be dark during the day." The "Spring and Autumn Yundou Shu" says: "The phenomenon of daylight being dark is an omen of ministers seizing control of the government and no one being able to restrain them, acting tyrannically and arrogantly, thus allowing yin energy to expand." The "Luozui Ji" says: "If the sun is dark during the day, it indicates that someone will leave without speaking a word." Shi Shen says: "If the sun is dark during the day, pedestrians cannot cast shadows on the road, and the darkness does not dissipate until nightfall, indicating harsh punishments, the people unable to live, and a great flood occurring within two years, with no harvest in the fields." Gan De says: "If the sunlight is disordered during the day, and birds make chaotic noises, it indicates the collapse of the state and the country, with ministers seizing control of the government, and this will occur within five years." Gan De also says: "If the sun is dark during the day without cause, and remains dark until dusk, a great flood will occur within one year."

Jing Fang's "Differentiation of Portents and Anomalies" says: "If there are slanderous ministers in the country and corrupt officials in the court, the sun will lose its light and become dark and obscure." The "Book of Changes" says: "If the Big Dipper is seen at noon and the stars appear during the day, it indicates that daylight has become dim and murky, so this period of time is referred to as 'dusk.' The remedy is: to distance oneself from flatterers and corrupt ministers, to approach upright and loyal officials, to study and clarify the classics, and to block the channels of private interests. Then the sun will regain its brightness." The "Commentary on the Hongfan" says: "When the sun is at noon but appears dark and obscure, this signifies that yin has taken the position of yang, and ministers have turned against the sovereign."

The "Diagram of the Male and Female Classics" says: "On the day of Zi, when the daylight is dim, it indicates great flooding and mountain collapses, water flooding Liangzhou, calamity will occur in Wudu and Jiuquan. On the day of Chou, when the daylight is dim, it indicates collapse of Ghost Mountain and great floods emerging to flood Yanzhou, calamity will occur in Jiyin and Rencheng. On the day of Yin, when the daylight is dim, it indicates collapse of Tiger Mountain and flooding, flooding Xuzhou, calamity will occur in Xiaopi and Langya. On the day of Mao, when the daylight is dim, it indicates collapse of Water Mountain, another interpretation is a great wind, mountain torrents flooding Qizhou, calamity will occur in Pingyuan and Qiguo. On the day of Chen, when the daylight is dim, it indicates collapse of Wind Mountain, great floods emerging to flood Yangzhou, calamity will occur in Yuzhang and Lujiang. On the day of Si, when the daylight is dim, it indicates collapse of Dragon Mountain, another interpretation is collapse of Water Mountain, great floods flooding Yuzhou, calamity will occur in Huaiyang, Ruzhong, and Huiguo, another interpretation is calamity will occur in Huaiyang and Nanchang."

On the day of Wu, when the daylight is dim, it indicates the collapse of mountainous areas associated with water, another interpretation being the collapse of mountains on the upper slopes; a great flood will inundate Youzhou, with calamity occurring in the southern regions and Cangwu, another interpretation being the flooding of Qingzhou, with calamity occurring in Pingyuan and southern Qi. On the day of Wei, when the daylight is dim, it indicates the collapse of mountainous areas associated with earth, another interpretation being the collapse of mountainous areas associated with water; a great flood will surge out and inundate Jingzhou, with calamity occurring in Nanyang. On the day of Shen, when the daylight is dim, it indicates the collapse of stone mountains, a great flood will inundate Yizhou, with calamity occurring in Shuzhou and Guanghan. If there is no cloud, the sun cannot be seen.

The Yellow River Chart says: "Originally there are no clouds in the sky, yet the Star of brightness and prestige cannot be seen, continuing for three days, indicating a great mourning, inevitably leading to the downfall of the state." Gan De says: "If the Star of brightness and prestige is not visible on the first day of the eighth lunar month, or on the You day of the first lunar month, it foretells the death of a person." The Spring and Han Containing Sprouts says: "When the Star of brightness and prestige should appear but does not, it indicates the ruler is timid and falls behind his ministers. (Original note: 'Not appearing' refers to the Star of brightness and prestige failing to rise when it should, symbolizing the ruler's weakness and fear of the ministers.) Thus, the ruler retreats to a position associated with yin." The Spring and Wei says: "When the Star of brightness and prestige sinks and does not appear, the world becomes dark and gloomy, with people as if drowning and suffocating."

The sun is directly overhead and the crow is visible.

The Luo Writing says: "When the Star of brightness and prestige shows the shape and shadow of a crow, it is called 'Yin Virtue.' There will be military action within sixty days. If one attacks in the direction where the shadow points, one will win; otherwise, the king will die." (Original note: According to the Baopu Zi, in the thirteenth year of Wu's Chugǔ period, a shadow of a crow appeared at noon, which was a three-legged crow; however, both Wei and Shu did not see it, and later Sun Quan died.) Jing Fang says: "When the Star of brightness and prestige shows the shadow of a crow, the ruler loses clarity, and the officials are confused." The Yellow Emperor says: "When the Star of brightness and prestige shows a three-legged crow, the region corresponding to its position will have gatherings of people wearing white clothes for mourning, a great drought, and vast areas of land without rain. If the three-legged crow appears and stops outside the sun's disk, the great states of the world will suffer this calamity, with everyone wearing hemp cloth and continuous weeping."

The book "Tai Gong Yin Mi" says: "If a shadow of a crow appears in the sun, the sovereign will have misfortune; if two crow shadows appear, the ministers and generals will rebel and enter the palace; if two crows fight, the sovereign will flee; if the crow shadows are restless and unstable, there will be great famine, drought and flood, and the people will be displaced. The way to resolve this is: fill the granaries, appoint virtuous men, distance wicked ministers, investigate the palace, appoint those who follow the Way, pardon those who refuse to obey, and the calamity will be dispelled." The "Xiao Jing Nei Ji Tu" says: "If the sun has no halo but a crow shadow appears, the country corresponding to the star mansion will be destroyed." (Original note: Wang Yin's "Jin Shu · Hui Di Ji" says that in the sixth year of Yuan Kang, in June, a black shadow like a flying swallow appeared in the sun, continuing for several days, and later the incident of the Prince of愍怀 being killed occurred.) The "Ri Bang Qi Tu" says: "If a crow shadow appears in the sun, the sovereign of that country will die, within three years." The "Jingzhou Zhan" says: "Usually observe the sun on the fourteenth day of each month; if a shape like a flying bird appears in the sun, that place will be uninhabitable." Jing Fang's "Zai Yi" says: "If the color of the sun and moon is thin and red, and a crow shadow appears in the sun, it indicates that generals will lead troops with banners; such military action is not auspicious and will surely result in defeat."

There are miscellaneous clouds in the sun.

The Huangdi Zhan says: "When a fiery light appears in the middle of the Sun, it indicates that the ministers close to the ruler intend to rebel." The Chunqiu Qiantanba says: "When the ruler's virtue and authority are as strong as a hawk soaring high, the relationship between ruler and ministers is harmonious, and the way of virtue and governance is commendable; the Sun contains the character 'Wang' (King)." (Original note: When the character 'Wang' appears in the Sun, it symbolizes the ruler's virtue, indicating that the sunlight reaches everywhere without fail.) Shi Shen says: "When a figure standing appears in the middle of the Sun, it warns the ruler to be vigilant about those around him." The Jingzhou Zhan says: "When a figure walking appears in the Sun, it indicates that ministers will plot against the ruler, and when two armies fight, the guest force will win; if three figures appear, it signifies the heavenly hook omen affecting the ruler, and the ruler's position will certainly change."

The "Miscellaneous Cloud and Atmosphere Divination" says: "A green cloud enters the sun, with a white image resembling an old man, wearing a black hat and black clothes, holding a knife standing in the center of the sun. It does not dissipate from sunrise until breakfast time, indicating the ruler loses his position." It also says: "A green cloud enters the sun, shaped like two crows standing overlapped in the center of the sun. It does not dissipate from sunrise until breakfast time, and the sun has no brilliance, indicating the夷 people become the ruler, normal governance cannot be restored, and the river water flows backwards." Jing Fang says: "Sacrificing to heaven without proper rites is called 'reverse,' and a black spot appears in the center of the sun." He also says: "If ministers do not cover up the ruler's faults and publicly announce improper orders to the people, the people thus hate the ruler, and the sun undergoes a change." (Original note: Black spots appearing in the center of the sun belong to yin; these phenomena all occur at sunrise and sunset.)

The Wenming Gou says: "When a ruler entrusts power to a single person and acts on his own, the ministers will seize control of the laws, and the Sun will show black spots of a dark color." The Gan school says: "When the Sun is bright red and covers the Moon, even without war, the state will surely perish." The Jing Fang school says: "When black clouds appear in the Sun, either red, dark, or yellow, and they appear in five places, then ten, then thirty, it indicates the death of the emperor." (Original note: According to the Jin Zhongxing Book, in the third year of Shengping, the tenth month, on the day of Bingwu, a black spot the size of a bird's egg appeared in the Sun, and soon Emperor Xiaozong Mu of Jin died. In the fourth year of Tahe, the tenth month, on the day of Yiwei, another black spot appeared in the Sun, and the next year the Haixi Duke was deposed.)

The "Tai Gong Yin Mi" says: "In the Sun there are black spots, either one, two, or up to four or five. This indicates that yin energy is hidden within yang energy, which presages that the sovereign will harm his ministers. If the black spots rise from above the Sun, it signifies that ministers will plot against the sovereign. If they rise from the sides, it indicates that the sovereign will scheme against his ministers. If the black spots do not rise from the Sun, it presages that palace women will suffer misfortune. If this phenomenon appears at dusk, it concerns the ministers; if it appears at dawn, it concerns the sovereign. The method to resolve this is: reduce punishments, pardon the innocent, restrain authority, comfort the people, provide relief to the poor, and the calamity will be dispelled." It also says: "In the Sun there are black spots, one, two, or up to four or five, indicating that decrees and moral teachings cannot be implemented, the Three Excellencies will rebel, and the granting of titles and rewards will be unjust. If this is not corrected, ministers will kill the sovereign, and sons will plot against their fathers. The method to resolve this is: appoint virtuous and upright officials, uphold morality and virtue, expel greedy and wicked individuals, reduce punishments, examine memorials and accusations carefully, and handle matters of execution with caution, and there will be no harm." It also says: "Black spots in the Sun arise because the sovereign has committed mistakes and the ministers do not conceal them, causing the Sun to be dim. If such an anomaly is observed but not corrected, the sovereign will face troubles. The method to resolve this is: follow the ways of heaven and earth, clarify and implement the political teachings of the Bright Hall, and there will be no harm."

The "Hongfan Wuxing Zhuan" says: "When the ruler has faults and fails to follow the heavenly way, black spots appear in the sun, one-sided, as big as a small ball." The "Jingzhou Zhuan" says: "When there are black spots in the sun, as big as peaches and plums, it indicates that ministers obscure the ruler's wisdom." (Original notes: According to He Fasheng's records, in the third month of the fourth year of Taixing during the Jin dynasty, at noon a black spot appeared on the sun; in the tenth month of the first year of Yongchang, at noon another black spot appeared. At that time, Emperor Yuan of Jin favored favorites excessively, Liu Wei acted tyrannically, damaging the way of ruling, and Wang Dun used this as an excuse to raise an army under the name of Jinyang and attacked the capital, causing harm to loyal and virtuous officials, so the sun had blemishes. In the first year of Ningkang, the tenth month, Jiyou, at noon a black spot appeared, as big as a plum; in the third month of the second year, Gengyin, at noon there were two black spots, as big as chicken eggs; in the eleventh month of the same year, Jisi, at noon another black spot appeared, as big as an egg. At that time, Emperor Xiaowu had already come of age, but the Kangxian Empress Dowager, as the aunt of the emperor, ruled the court, which was against the way of ruling, so the sun had blemishes. In the second month of the thirteenth year of Taoyuan, Gengzi, at noon a black spot appeared, as big as a plum; in the second month of the fourteenth year, Xinmao, at noon another black spot appeared; in the twentieth year, the eleventh month, Xinmao, at noon another black spot appeared. At that time, the Prince of Kuaiji, as the younger brother of the emperor by the same mother, monopolized the government, so the sun had blemishes.)

Jing Fang said: "If white clouds span the Sun, it indicates that there will be temporary mobilization of white-clothed soldiers throughout the country within three years; if black clouds span the Sun, it indicates that there will be plots that fail to succeed." Jing Fang said: "Observing the Sun and finding it completely colorless, with red gas as large as a fingernail, pulsating unpredictably, indicates the death of the sovereign." In Jing Fang's "Yao Zhan," it says: "Red clouds spanning the Sun, shaped like a standing drum, is called 'Shou Wei'; the Hu氏 was defeated by Xiahou Qi under such cloud formations." The "Jingzhou Zhan" states: "Red clouds spanning the Sun, shaped like a standing drum, indicates no rain for three years."

The sun gives birth to teeth and feet.

The Spring and Autumn Annals: The Manifestation of the Spirit says: "When夷狄 invade together and military action is about to be taken, the Sun will hang down with tooth-like points and extend foot-like rays—'tooth' refers to the short, sharp energy hanging beneath the Sun's surface, and 'foot' refers to the strip-like energy extending outward from beneath the Sun—when this occurs, it certainly indicates that the prince's son is governing in place of the ruler, monopolizing the power of rewards and punishments." Xi Meng says: "When the Sun shows tooth-like and foot-like energies, it indicates that there is a plot of rebellion within the country." Gan De says: "When the Sun's foot-like energy turns white, it indicates that a feudal king will be defeated." Shi Shen says: "When the Sun has white foot-like energy, it indicates that one side in the battle will be defeated, the army will scatter, and the general will die." The Luo Writing says: "When the Sun first shows red foot-like energy, it indicates that the ruler will be swiftly attacked for his crimes, a famous minister will rebel, and the power of the prime minister will be taken away." The Spring and Autumn Annals: The Manifestation of the Spirit says: "When the Sun has red foot-like energy, it indicates that the ruler will fall and perish, the king's envoys will be killed, and all sides will attack each other."

The Spring and Autumn Han Han Zi says: "The Sun has red foot qi, indicating the ruler will flee barefoot, because 'foot' belongs to fire in the Five Phases." It also says: "If dozens of red foot qi extend down to rivers and lands, the ruler will certainly flee." The Spring and Autumn Kao Yi You says: "If the Sun has red foot qi, it indicates someone will raise an army; if the Sun has white foot qi, it indicates the king of the feudal states will be killed." (Original note: According to Song Jun's commentary, 'foot' refers to a moving part, symbolizing ministers; red sunlight producing foot qi indicates ministers seizing the ruler's power and raising an army; white belongs to the metal phase, thus indicating the killing of ministers.) The River Chart says: "If the Sun produces two foot qi, it indicates a prominent figure from the common people will rise."

The sun has a comet's tail.

The "Diagram of the Male and Female Classic of Filial Piety" says: "The Sun emits a broom-like radiance, indicating the sovereign has the virtue of fire, and the whole world will have a great harvest." King Gaozong says: "The radiance above the Sun resembles beacon fires, indicating the monarch will lose territory." The "Spring and Autumn Han Han Zi" says: "The Sun hanging down its radiance indicates war will occur." (Original note: This refers to the appearance of芒角 on the Sun's surface indicating war.) The "Luo Writing" says: "The Sun has a qi and produces radiance, with a yellow and white color that is moist and lustrous, which is called 'sunlight,' indicating the Son of Heaven will have joyful events, followed by the implementation of virtue and the issuance of pardons." Xia氏 says: "If there is a yellow and white radiance above the Sun, it indicates the monarch will have flourishing blessings; if it is not of such proper color, it indicates the emperor will face troubles."

Day Stick

The "Xiao Jing Ci Xiong Tu" says: "What is called 'day's prick' is a kind of qi that appears like a needle piercing into the sun's surface. It symbolizes a low-ranking person speculating and looking down upon a superior, knowing right and wrong but acting rashly. There will be calamities within a year, which is a sign of ministers offending their sovereign. The sun is large and yellow, indicating extreme change, with various evil qi approaching the sun's vicinity, which represents low-ranking people speculating the sovereign's mind. If the prick qi is on the left, it indicates someone wanting to remonstrate and accuse wrongdoing; if it appears in the area it passes through, it indicates someone wanting to establish a new king; if it is above, it indicates someone wanting to surpass and control the sovereign; if it is below, it indicates someone wanting to replace the sovereign. When encountering such changes, the sovereign should quickly blame himself, repent and examine his mistakes, and those handling affairs should be cautious in distinguishing right and wrong, so that the way of the king can be harmonious." It also says: "If 'day's prick' appears on the days of Jia and Yi, it indicates mutual accusations between father and son; if it appears on the days of Bing and Ding, it indicates mutual suspicion between sovereign and minister, and the change of laws and teachings; if it appears on the days of Wu and Ji, it indicates the concubine intending to harm people around the sovereign; if it appears on the days of Geng and Xin, it indicates (the original text is missing here); if it appears on the days of Ren and Gui, it indicates damage to eunuchs."

The size of the day and night.

The Spring and Autumn Han Hanyu says: "When the Sun becomes larger, it suffers a loss in the place where it resides; when the Sun becomes smaller, it is invaded by the strong." A Sun that is larger than usual but lacks brightness symbolizes a ruler without ministers to support him; a Sun that is smaller than usual symbolizes the loss of the ruler's authority. The Spring and Autumn Wei says: "When the Sun becomes larger, it becomes isolated and cannot exercise its power; when the Sun becomes smaller, it is gradually invaded (missing six characters)." Shi Shen says: "When the Sun diminishes and becomes smaller, the country corresponding to it (missing eleven characters)." Jing Fang says: "When the Sun becomes smaller, it indicates that the ruler's rewards are inappropriate." The Spring and Autumn Wei says: "Disasters associated with the Red Emperor's lineage are when the Sun diminishes and becomes smaller."

The sun divides and destroys.

The "Xiao Jing Nei Ji Tu" says: "The Sun split apart, indicating the ruler losing his position and suffering defeat and destruction." The "Chun Qiu He Cheng Tu" says: "The ruler is obscured while ministers seize power; when the Sun appears, it is destroyed." The "Chun Qiu Han Han Zi" says: "When the Sun is destroyed, the country is also destroyed." (Original note: This refers to the Sun splitting into four or five parts, and the country splitting into four or five parts.) Jing Fang says: "When the Sun splits in the middle, the country will perish within five years." The "Xiao Jing Ci Xiong Tu" says: "When the Sun splits in the middle, the world is divided into two parts." Jing Fang also says: "When misty vapour takes away the Sun's light and the Sun splits in the middle, it indicates the army bringing disaster to the country. Another interpretation is that Yin overcomes Yang, and ministers overcome the ruler, with both sides evenly matched." The "Luo Shu" says: "When virtuous people lose their positions, and those who spread slander rise to power while the upright are driven away, and the government becomes oppressive and the people are disturbed, the Sun splits into two. If this is not corrected, the people following the ruler will also rebel." The "Jing Shi Qi Zhan" says: "When the Sun splits in the middle into two, the ruler dies; when the Sun splits into two and a crow's shadow is seen within it, the contender for the throne dies." The "Jingzhou Zhan" says: "When the Sun splits in the middle into two, the country corresponding to the star mansion where the Sun is located will perish." (Original note: According to the "Xiao Jing Nei Shuo Tu," during the time of King Zhou of Shang, on the sixth month Renzi day, the Sun split into two, breaking into two halves, marking the end of the ruler's fate.)

The "Jingtu Zhan" says: "The Sun splits into two, indicating another king will appear above." The "Chunqiu Gan Jingfu" says: "When the ruler and minister contend, the Sun splits; when the ruler trusts one person exclusively, the Sun splits into five parts." The "Chunqiu Wei" says: "When the Sun is damaged into five parts, it indicates the emperor will be killed, and the disaster gradually arises from exclusive trust." The "Xiaojing Neji" says: "When the Sun is damaged into five parts, it means the emperor loses the empire and is killed in it." The "He Tu" says: "When the Sun splits, the land also splits." The "Chunqiu Wei" says: "When the Sun cracks, it indicates the ruler is executed and ministers contend." The "Shangshu Zhonghou" says: "Xia Jie was cruel and lawless, killing the loyal minister Guan Longpeng, destroying the imperial records, breaking the calendar and regulations, harming the world, and driving away the virtuous. The Sun thus suffers damage." The "Chunqiu Wei" says: "The Sun is damaged, (the original text here is missing eleven characters)." Jing Fang says: "When the Sun is only half attached to the ground, it indicates the country will perish and two enemies will be in a stalemate." The "Jingzhou Zhan" says: "Usually observe from the third to the eighth day of the first lunar month. If the sunlight has no halo around it, it indicates the world will have military disaster and mourning." The "Chunqiu Wei" says: "The Sun is pierced, and it can pass through a wooden stake." (Original note: "wu" is pronounced like "tuo.")

Day and night emerge

The Yellow River Chart says: "The Star of brightness and prestige appears at night, which is called 'Yin Ming,' indicating the fragmentation and collapse of the country." (Original note: According to the Mozi, during the time of the three You tribes' great chaos, the heavenly mandate ordered the extermination of them, yet the Star of brightness and prestige appeared at night. Suichaozi said that during the chaos of the three You tribes, an abnormal Star of brightness and prestige appeared at night.) The Spring and Spirit符 says: "When the position of the emperor is flawed, the Star of brightness and prestige appears at night." The Book of Documents in the Golden Cabinet says: "When the Star of brightness and prestige appears at night, it signifies the collapse of the state's order, ministers seizing control of the court, wielding power arbitrarily, and seizing authority; if not corrected, the ministers will plot against their sovereign and usurp the state. The method to correct this is: to be close to benevolent and virtuous men, to expel arrogant and deceitful ministers, to stabilize the seasonal decrees, to widely spread benevolence, and to grant a general amnesty, so that the appearance of the Star of brightness and prestige at night will not cause harm."

The "Yi Wei" says: "When the Star of brightness and prestige appears at night, it indicates that secret plots have already been carried out, and the heroes in the country will flee, changing their allegiance to another master." The "Xiaojing Neji Tu" says: "When the Star of brightness and prestige appears at night, it clearly shows that ministers intend to kill the sovereign and seize his state and country; if it appears for a whole day, it indicates the outbreak of military conflicts and famine across the land; if it appears again, the sovereign will die and the country will perish within three years." Jing Fang says: "When the Star of brightness and prestige appears at night, this is called yin reversing into the yang position, and within two years there will be great military conflicts; within one year, there will be a great flood; in the region corresponding to this phenomenon, the whole world will be in turmoil." He also says: "When the Star of brightness and prestige rises after dusk, this is called deep yin energy, indicating military conflicts across the land." Jing Fang says: "When the Star of brightness and prestige rises in the evening, it indicates misfortune for the sovereign and the destruction of the state and country."

Xi Meng said, "The sun appearing at night is called yin and yang reversed— the sun should appear in the day, but now it appears at night— the country that corresponds to this day will perish, warfare will arise, and the world will suffer famine; determine which country corresponds to the day branch on which the sun appears at night." Xi Meng said, "When the sun appears at night and shines upon the eastern Horn mansion, it indicates that the concubine and her attendants will act without restraint, the four barbarian tribes will invade the borders, and the twelve states will attack each other and perish." The "Jingzhou Divination" says, "When the sun appears at night, this is called 'ming jue,' meaning the light is cut off; internal warfare will occur and the state will not flourish, within three years there will be..." The "Jingzhou Divination" says, "When the sun appears at night and the Big Dipper is visible, it indicates that warfare will erupt throughout the land." The "Jingzhou Divination" says, "When the sun appears at night, within two years there will be warfare and floods, and warfare will occur in the country corresponding to the region where this phenomenon is observed." (Original note: According to Wei Zhao's "Dong Ji," in the third year of Emperor Wu of Han's reign in April, there was an object resembling the sun that appeared at night; in the spring of the third year, the Yellow River overflowed in the plains area, causing a great famine, and people ate each other. The Minyue attacked the Dong Ou, and the court sent Yan Zhu to rescue them, and the Minyue retreated.)

The sun should rise but does not rise; it should set but does not set.

The Spring and Autumn Annals: Han Han Zi states: "When the Star of brightness and prestige should rise but does not, it indicates the ruler is weak and yields to his ministers; when it should set but does not, (the original text here is missing)."

The sun rises again and reaches the zenith again.

Shi Shen said: "When the Sun rises again, it is called 'seeping light,' indicating the death of the ruler of that country and the outbreak of military conflict." The "Spring and Autumn Han Han Zi" said: "When the Sun reaches the center again, it signifies that a branch or secondary son will rise up to seize the throne." Jing Fang said: "When the Sun is in the center twice, it indicates the exhaustion of the imperial mandate." (Original note: According to the "Imperial Sacrificial Rituals Record," during the reign of Emperor Wen of Han, the alchemist Xin Yuanping submitted a report stating that the Sun would be in the center twice; soon after, the Sun indeed retreated and then again reached the center, so Emperor Wen changed the 17th year to be the first year.)

The sun rises and sets, and the sun sets and rises again.

Jing Fang said, "When the Sun rises and then sets, and after setting rises again, it indicates that ministers and subjects will submit and be obedient." He also said, "When the Sun rises and then sinks, and when it sinks it rises again, and after sinking reappears, this is called 'returning,' which signifies great chaos throughout the land, lasting three years." The "Jingzhou Divination" states, "When the Sun appears and then retreats, chaos will occur within three years. The term 'reverse' refers to the ruler not personally holding power, abandoning laws and regulations to act on personal whims, not allowing officials to perform their duties, but instead preferring to handle everything personally. The Sun then shows a reversed sign. The term 'return' refers to the Sun appearing and then sinking, and sinking again and rising. If not corrected, great chaos will occur, with those who do not abide by laws and regulations all rebelling, and none obeying the ruler's orders. If one can maintain sincerity, remain focused and undivided, practice ancient ways, abide by laws and regulations, and act without error, then even if the Sun returns, it will not cause harm."

The Spring and Autumn Annals: The Book of Sensible Symbols says: "When the sovereign is alarmed and fearful, the sun sets and then rises again." Jing Fang says: "When the sun sets in the evening and then rises again, it signifies the downfall of the empire." The Spring and Autumn Annals: The Han Containing the Seeds says: "When the sun leaps, it indicates the sovereign's fear of the royal family, and the image of Wen and Jing shifts, with a collateral branch rising to take the throne.the so-called 'leaping' refers to the sun, which should have set in the evening, but after setting, it jumps up again, indicating the sovereign's fear of the royal family's power;the so-called 'Wen and Jing' refers to the image of the sun reversing." The Spring and Autumn Writ says: "When the sun leaps unpredictably, it signifies the sovereign's yielding and submission, with the empire in turmoil and unrest, like the time of the tyrant King Jie of Xia." The Book of Filial Piety says: "When the sun has set but its light reappears, it signifies the outbreak of military conflict."

The sun falls; the sun flows.

The Luo Writing says: "The Star of brightness and prestige falls from the sky; if there is a virtuous ruler, he can use this to correct the world; if there is an unjust ruler, he must flee." The Spring and Autumn Han Han Zi says: "The Star of brightness and prestige flows, indicating warfare with weapons.所谓 'flow' refers to several red beads-like masses of energy hanging beneath the sun, which signifies the king's armies will fight east and west, engaging in close combat." The Spring and Autumn Wei says: "The Star of brightness and prestige flows, indicating the downfall of the king, because he indulges in wine and women and is overthrown by others."

The sun rises from an unusual direction.

Jing Fang said: "The Sun rising from the due south at the Wu position signifies the monarch losing his country." Jing Fang said: "The Sun rising from the southeast at the Si position signifies the monarch losing his discernment, and his decrees cannot be implemented." The Yellow River Chart says: "The Sun rising from the west signifies the state affairs being controlled by the monarch's maternal relatives."

The sun and moon appear together.

The Spring and Autumn Annals of the Movement of the Stars says: "When the ruler is weak and the marquises are treacherous, even if someone rises up, he cannot correct the situation, and then two suns appear in the sky together." The Yellow River Chart says: "The sun does not shine, the moon does not wane, springs gush out from the mountains, and a great fire burns the forests." It also says: "When two suns shine over the world, it indicates famine among the people." The Spring and Autumn Hidden Depth says: "When two suns appear together, it signifies the earth cracking open and the rivers drying up." The Poetic Prophecy says: "When one violates heaven and earth and cuts off human relationships, two suns will appear to fight." Jing Fang says: "When two suns appear together, it indicates the feudal lords have plots, and eventually they will bring about their own destruction, with wars breaking out across the land, and the wicked ministers rising up but ultimately failing." It also says: "When two suns appear together, it indicates contention for the throne throughout the world." The Filial Piety Chart says: "During the Xia dynasty, two suns appeared together. The prophecy says: King Jie of Xia was unjust, and two suns shone, causing the Yishan mountain to collapse, Guan Longfeng was killed, the people scattered, and the temples and altars of the outskirts became ruins."

The *Book of Curious Things* says: "During the time of King Jie of Xia, Fei Chang saw two suns by the Yellow River: the one on the east had blazing flames and was about to rise, while the one on the west was dim and about to fade, accompanied by thunderous sounds. Fei Chang asked the river god Feng Yi: 'Which one is Xia? Which one is Yin?' Feng Yi replied: 'The sun on the west is Xia, and the one on the east is Yin. Xia Jie is about to perish.' So Fei Chang returned and moved his clan to the east, submitting to the Shang." Jing Fang said: "When two suns appear together, this is called 'both bright'; someone pretending to be the ruler competes with the true ruler for brightness, and the world will have two rulers." Jing Fang also said: "When the sun appears together, it signifies a minister without virtue competing with the ruler for merit; the one who starts the rebellion will flourish, while the one who follows will perish."

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: "If more than two suns appear, this is called 'luan ming' [chaos of brightness]; when 'luan ming' occurs, the world will be in great disorder. Each family will cling to its own relatives, and all intend to conspire against the sovereign, and these plots have already taken shape. Within three years, the price of grain will surge, one stone worth a thousand coins, and great famine will occur in the country." The *Jingzhou Divination* also says: "If more than two suns appear, it signifies disaster for the world; the Xia dynasty perished because of two suns appearing together." The *Shangshu Kao Lingyao* says: "When the emperor is about to perish, three suns will shine together." (Original note: The *Jinyang Spring and Autumn* records that in the first year of Jianwu, three suns appeared together. The chief astronomer at the observatory submitted a memorial saying: The world is likely to be divided into three parts.) Wu Xian says: "If three suns appear together beneath the constellations Fangsu and Xinxu, within a year the world will be peaceful; there is also a view that the country will split into three states." Jingfang says: "If three suns appear together, it signifies that ministers will contend for the throne." He also says: "If three suns appear together, within thirty days, the feudal lords will compete to proclaim themselves king."

The "Inner Record of the Classic of Filial Piety" says: "If three suns appear together, the king will certainly lose his position. If someone is equal in rank with the king in the front palace and the rear palace, the king will immediately perish." The "Jingzhou Divination" says: "If three suns appear together, the country will have a prince being destroyed, lose land and empty cities, and rivers will overflow and flood. Otherwise, there will be great military conflicts and great calamities in that year." The "Spring and Autumn Writings" say: "If three suns appear together, the Son of Heaven will be deposed." It also says: "If several suns appear together, it indicates two kings fighting each other." The "Jingfang Divination" says: "If two, three, four, or five suns appear together, this is called 'struggle for brightness,' indicating that the whole world will have military conflicts, and also indicating that three, four, or six kings will be ruling together." (Original note: According to the "National Annals," in the second year of Jianxing, in the second month, the Eastern Wu just heard the bad news of the death of Emperor Min of Jin, and when asking the ministers, everyone saw five suns together: one in the center, and the other four around it. Xiahou Zuo said: There are many emperors in the world, what is there to be surprised about?) The "Jizi Book" says: "King Yimao of Xia lived in Xihexia, and a strange phenomenon appeared in the sky, with ten suns appearing together." The "Huainanzi" says: "During the time of Emperor Yao of Tang, ten suns appeared together, scorching the crops and grass, and the people had nothing to eat. Emperor Yao sent Yi to shoot the suns, and he shot down nine of them, and the nine golden crows all died, their wings falling down one by one."

The sun is heavily burdened.

The "Diagram of the Male and Female Classics of Filial Piety" states: "The Star of Brightness and Prestige appearing repeatedly and accumulating: if it appears on days of Jia and Yi, it indicates the Crown Prince will suffer great calamity; if it appears on days of Bing and Ding, it indicates the ministers will die prematurely or suffer injury; if it appears on days of Wu and Ji, it indicates the empresses will lose control, leading to the emergence of demons and chaos; if it appears on days of Geng and Xin, it indicates the soldiers and officers will indulge in disorder and corruption within the army; if it appears on days of Ren and Gui, it indicates the sovereign's decrees will be as fleeting as the morning dew, and the ministers will not conceal or correct the faults. All these variations continuously appear, all being omens of ruin and destruction; only through a wise sovereign and virtuous ministers, who eliminate great evils, reform false governance, and establish proper hierarchy, can these variations be resolved, and all kinds of calamities be kept hidden and unmanifested."

The sun disc (Sun) is in conflict and has a halo with an eclipse.

The Yellow Emperor said: "When judging the solar conflict, one must take the appearance of three-footed crows at noon as the true solar conflict; usually observe between sunrise and breakfast time, if the three-footed crows are not seen, it is not considered a solar conflict." Jing Fang said: "When two suns contend, it signifies strife throughout the realm; when three suns contend, it is like a group of roosters fighting, one should observe which one fades first, and thus determine the outcome of the matter." The "Golden Cabinet" said: "Solar conflict arises because the ruler lacks wisdom and wicked ministers contend for power. The contending suns lack brilliance, and all can see the shadow of crows within them. If not corrected, the period will be sixty-six days, and the emperor will lose his territory. The method of correction is: open the gates of the four directions to widely accept opinions, attract virtuous and capable men, confer titles and assign duties, hold people accountable according to their names, and examine oneself, thus the solar conflict will not cause harm."

The book "Sea Divination" says: "When the Sun and Moon clash, the ruler will suffer from abdominal distension, partial paralysis, and diseases of the mouth, throat, and heart and abdomen." Jing Fang says: "When the Sun clashes, it usually occurs from sunrise to breakfast time. If a shadow of darkness appears after the clash, the emperor will lose his territory within sixty days; if no such shadow appears, it is not considered a clash of the Sun. Whenever the Sun clashes, there will be a major battle of attacking cities and fortresses within three years, and there will be frequent floods in the areas of Qi and Yan." Jing Fang says: "When the Sun clashes with a red and black color, the country will split, and within three years, people will eat each other, and both the rich and poor will suffer from hunger and death." Jing Fang says: "When the Sun clashes, the side with yellow color in the center will win, and the central country will be strong; the side with green color on the left will win, and the country on the left will be strong; the side with white color on the right will win, and the country on the right will be strong; the side with red color in front will win, and the country in front will be strong; the side with black color behind will win, and the country behind will be strong; the side that cannot win will suffer calamity."

Jing Fang's "Discourse on Portents and Anomalies" says: "When a red, white, blue, or yellow tiger-like aura enters a city at noon, this is called 'guarding the city and its destruction,' and the rulers of the Zhou dynasty perished because of this celestial phenomenon." He also says: "When several suns appear together, seeming to fight, this indicates great warfare across the land." Shi Shen says: "When a white sun and a black sun fight, this indicates that the two countries will attack each other, and there will be warfare across the land, and a great famine will occur within three years." The "Spring Annals Weave" says: "When red suns press against each other, blood flows in torrents; the sovereign and ministers act unjustly, and the纵横 (crossing and flowing) forces act recklessly." Jing Fang says: "When the sun fights and there are variations, along with a solar halo and solar eclipse, this indicates the death of the sovereign, the suns all being injured, and warfare arising." Lüshi says: "In a chaotic state, the sovereign is not supported by the people; evil qi accumulates and blocks the light, resulting in solar eclipses and solar fights." (Original book note: According to the "Book of Documents: The Celestial Wheel Bell," during the time of King Jie of Xia, there were solar fights and solar eclipses. The "Golden Cabinet" of Tai Gong says that during the time of the Sanmiao, there were solar fights.)
