The five stars have preferences, anger, bright and dark halos, color changes, crowns, and ear ornaments.

甘氏曰：“凡五星同色，天下偃兵，百姓安寧，歌舞以行，不見疾病，五穀大昌。”巫咸曰：“五星起怒，犯凌留守列舍，察其守犯，審其始留之日，觀其時氣有與五星相賊者，以決其事；視其色變，以知吉凶之情；又別其光芒所指，以知兵起所加之鄉；芒多而短者，謀而未成；芒少而長者，其謀已成；其氣專而上行，芒從一至四，是謂道極。

The Gan school says: Whenever the five planets appear of the same color, the world will cease from warfare, the people will be at peace, and they will sing and dance together; there will be no disease or plague, and the five grains will be abundant. Wu Xian says: When the five planets 'become angry,' it refers to the starlight becoming sharp and fierce, with its sharp edges exposed, thus offending and pressing upon a certain mansion. At this time, one should examine which mansion it is occupying or offending, determine the day when it began to stay there, and then check whether there is a mutual control between the star's Five Phases and the current climatic conditions. Based on this, one can determine the corresponding events. Observing the changes in the star's color can reveal the actual fortune or misfortune. Further, by discerning the direction of the star's light, one can know which direction the military action will be directed towards. If the star's sharp edges are numerous but short, it indicates that a conspiracy has begun but has not yet succeeded. If the sharp edges are few but long, it indicates that the conspiracy has already succeeded. If the star's energy is concentrated and rises straight up, with the sharp edges increasing from one to four, this is called 'extreme path,' which signifies a state of extreme change.

芒或指西，或指東，或指其南，或指其北；四芒己具，其下必有亡國之主，芒過四以上，未可救也。凡五星之起怒，芒角四達，其形未變，是謂誡兵；其星形變，而銳上，向下，大小狀如拔劍，是謂成形，不可救復；急堅甲勵兵，以待不祥。”《海中占》曰：“五星有三角者，兵息；有五角者，則兵行；以角多戰也。”

Somepointed rays point west, some east, some south, some north; when all four directions havepointed rays, the country beneath it will surely have a king who brings about the downfall of the state; if there are more than fourpointed rays, it is too late to save. Whenever the five planets become angry, theirpointed rays spread out in all directions but the shape of the planet remains unchanged, this is called 'warning of war', a heavenly warning to be on guard against military disaster; if the shape of the planet also changes, with the upper part sharp and the lower part hanging down, its size and shape resembling a sword drawn from its sheath, this is called 'taking form', which is irreversible, so one must quickly reinforce armor and sharpen weapons to prepare for the impending misfortune. The Sea of Divination says: when the five planets have threepointed rays, warfare will cease; when they have fivepointed rays, warfare will arise; the morepointed rays, the more intense the warfare.

甘氏曰：“五星反羽，其下之國，不可久處；反羽者，光芒上大、下小，狀如反羽也。”郗萌曰：“五星之常，行刑即乘芒，上銳下大，色如其常；及其逆行，而反芒上向，狀如反羽。”《黃帝占》曰：“無道之國，五星過之即斗，狀如故炭，爭流而去；熒惑，太白，還而不離；妖星數見，徘徊不去；如此者，兵之所攻，國家滅亡，又以有喪。”

The Gan school said: When the five planets appear in the form of "reverse feathers," the country beneath them cannot endure for long.the so-called reverse feathers refers to the light of the star being thick at the top and thin at the bottom, resembling an inverted feather. Xi Meng said: The normal state of the five planets is that when they display the image of punishment and execution, they are accompanied by a sharp and thickpointed rays, with the color remaining its original hue. But when they retrograde, thepointed rays turns upward, forming the shape of an inverted feather. The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: In an unjust state, when the five planets pass through its territory, they will fight with each other. The star colors will be dark, like burnt charcoal, and they will rush forward rapidly. The Malefic of violence (Mars) and the White Star (Venus) will circle around each other without departing. Portentous stars will appear repeatedly, lingering without dispersing. Such signs indicate the place where military calamities will strike, the country is about to perish, and there will also be mourning.

《考靈耀》曰：“五政俱失五星色，明年穀不登。”石氏曰：“熒惑色黑，填星爭青，太白色赤，辰星色黃，歲星色白者，必敗；熒惑為水災，填星為土功、太白為兵災，辰星為大水。”甘氏曰：“五星日月爭光，臣有無道，與其主爭者。”巫咸曰：“吉凶憂患，各比色變言之；將有兵，金星變；將有水，水星變；明主聖王，候而司之，轉禍為福，使災不來。”

The "Kao Lingyao" says: When the affairs of the five directions are all improper, the five planets will all lose their original colors, and the harvest of grain will not be abundant the following year. The Shi school says: The planet Mars, which is originally red, turns black; the planet Saturn, which is originally yellow, turns green; the planet Venus, which is originally white, turns red; the planet Mercury, which is originally black, turns yellow; and the planet Jupiter, which is originally green, turns white. These are all defeated by the color that restrains them, and they will surely perish. A change in the color of Mars indicates water disaster; a change in the color of Saturn indicates the breaking of ground; a change in the color of Venus indicates military disaster; and a change in the color of Mercury indicates great flooding. The Gan school says: When the five planets compete with the sun and moon for brightness, it indicates that there are unrighteous ministers who are fighting against their sovereign. Wu Xian says: Whether good fortune, misfortune, or calamity occurs, they should all be explained according to the changes in the colors of the stars: if there is military action, the planet Venus will change color; if there is flooding, the planet Mercury will change color. A wise sovereign and a saintly king can observe these omens, transform misfortune into good fortune, and prevent calamity from occurring.

巫咸曰：“五星變色，進退、逆順、喜怒，皆與時氣相應。至其象也，審明金不可以怒火之鄉，木不可以怒金之鄉，水不可以怒土之鄉，火不可以怒水之鄉，土不可以怒木之鄉。逆順進退，左右前後，五星皆同法。”《天官書》曰：“五星色：白圓，為喪、旱；赤圓，則中不平，為兵；青圓，為憂，水；黑圓，為疾，多死；黃圓，則吉。五星色：赤角犯我城，黃角地之爭，白角哭泣之聲，青角有兵憂，黑角則水。”

Wu Xian said: The changing colors, forward and backward movement, retrograde and normal motion, and the anger or withdrawal of the five planets all correspond with the current climatic conditions. When interpreting these celestial phenomena, one must be clear: the planet of metal must not show anger in the territory governed by fire, the planet of wood must not show anger in the territory governed by metal, the planet of water must not show anger in the territory governed by earth, the planet of fire must not show anger in the territory governed by water, and the planet of earth must not show anger in the territory governed by wood—because these are all cases of the planets venting their power in areas that are controlling them. Whether the planets move in reverse or normal order, advance or retreat, left or right, front or back, they are all interpreted according to the same set of rules. The "Book of Celestial Officials" says: the color of the five planets, if white and round, indicates mourning and drought; if red and round, indicates unrest within the country and military affairs; if green and round, indicates worries and floods; if black and round, indicates plague and many deaths; if yellow and round, it is auspicious. If the planets have apointed rays (芒角), then: redpointed rays indicates enemies attacking the city; yellowpointed rays indicates territorial disputes; whitepointed rays indicates mourning; greenpointed rays indicates military worries; blackpointed rays indicates floods.

巫咸曰：“二十八舍各有國分，水旱之災皆相應；故旱之歲，其國火星赤，水星黑。五星守二十八宿，各以其色占以其害為禍敗；歲星守木星，其色白必敗；熒惑守火星，其色黑必敗；填星守土星，其色青必敗；太白守金星，其色赤必敗；辰星守水星，其色黃必敗。”

Wu Xian said: The twenty-eight constellations each correspond to a particular territory, and water disasters and droughts correspond to them. Therefore, in years of drought, the constellation corresponding to the Malefic of violence will appear red, and the planet of water will appear black. When the five planets stop and guard the twenty-eight constellations, they should be judged according to their colors at that time, and the calamity is determined by the element that overcomes them. If the planet of wood (Jupiter) guards the constellation of wood, but appears white, white belongs to metal and metal overcomes wood, so there will be certain defeat. If the planet of fire (Mars) guards the constellation of fire, but appears black, black belongs to water and water overcomes fire, so there will be certain defeat. If the planet of earth (Saturn) guards the constellation of earth, but appears green, green belongs to wood and wood overcomes earth, so there will be certain defeat. If the planet of metal (Venus) guards the constellation of metal, but appears red, red belongs to fire and fire overcomes metal, so there will be certain defeat. If the planet of water (Mercury) guards the constellation of water, but appears yellow, yellow belongs to earth and earth overcomes water, so there will be certain defeat.

郗萌曰：“五星變色者，太史公以關於上，上乃以修其身，平政決獄，寬刑罰，薄賦斂，去關市之稅，廢關津之禁，以利宣天地之氣，則以次行。”《孝經右秘》曰：“五星冠珥，臣下遂。”

Xi Meng said: When the five planets change color, the astronomer in charge of celestial phenomena should report this event. The ruler should then use this as a basis to cultivate himself, govern with fairness, judge cases justly, lighten punishments, reduce taxes, and exempt duties at marketplaces and toll stations. He should also abolish restrictions at borders and ferry crossings. By doing these things, he will promote the smooth flow of the vital energies of heaven and earth, and the five planets will gradually return to their normal paths. The "Right Secret" section of the "Xiao Jing" says: When the five planets appear with "guan er" — light resembling ears on both sides of the stars and a luminous halo above them like a crown — this is an omen that ministers will achieve their aspirations and affairs will be successfully carried out.

甘氏曰：“五星犯列宿，若入其國，官有殃。”巫咸曰：“五星守木星，有木異；守火星，有火異；守土星，有土異；守金星，有金異，屠城；守水星，有水異。二十八宿中外官者，各有金木水火土氣，五星守之，禍敗皆不相賊害為吉凶，以官名其事。

The Gan school says: When the five planets invade the Twenty-Eight Mansions, if they enter the territory corresponding to a mansion, the officials in that area will suffer misfortune. Wu Xian says: When the five planets stop and dwell on stars belonging to the Wood element, there will be anomalies related to grass and trees; if they dwell on stars of the Fire element, there will be anomalies related to fire; if they dwell on stars of the Earth element, there will be anomalies related to earth; if they dwell on stars of the Metal element, there will be anomalies related to metal, and also the calamity of city destruction; if they dwell on stars of the Water element, there will be anomalies related to water. The Twenty-Eight Mansions, as well as the central and outer officials' stars, each carry the five elements of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. When the five planets stop and dwell on these stars, whether it brings misfortune or disaster depends on whether the two elements are in conflict. The outcome is also determined by the name of the star official.

歲星守木星，熒惑守火星，填星守土星，太白守金星，辰星守水星，是為五重守；並氣之象也；法曰並氣者，是謂重施過世，則民多疾疫，五穀不成，災害並生；一曰天下旱，萬物不成。歲星守火，熒惑守土，填星守金，太白守水，辰星守木，是謂五星守其子；陽不施之象。陽氣不足，故多水災，五穀不成。

The planet Jupiter belongs to wood and guards the star of wood, the planet Mars belongs to fire and guards the star of fire, the planet Saturn belongs to earth and guards the star of earth, the planet Venus belongs to metal and guards the star of metal, and the planet Mercury belongs to water and guards the star of water. This is called "fivefold guarding," which represents the phenomenon of the same kind of energy overlapping. The method of divination states: when the same kind of energy is combined, it means the same kind of energy is repeated and exceeds the normal measure, leading to many people contracting epidemics, crops failing, and various calamities occurring together. Another interpretation suggests a great drought over the whole country, with all things unable to mature. When Jupiter guards the star of fire, Mars guards the star of earth, Saturn guards the star of metal, Venus guards the star of water, and Mercury guards the star of wood, this is when each star guards the direction it is born from, called "five stars guarding their sons," which represents the phenomenon of yang energy being unable to transform. Since yang energy is insufficient, there are frequent floods and crops fail to mature.

歲星守土，熒惑守金，填星守水，太白守木，辰星守火，是謂守所勝，下之象也。法曰賦斂眾多，徭役繁數，下民屈竭，莫之能供，故下皆惡其上；則強凌弱，眾暴寡，故盜賊眾多，兵革並起；一曰人民相惡。”歲星守金，熒惑守水，填星守木，太白守火，辰星過土，是謂守所不勝，上之象也。法曰民臣隆盛，侵凌其上，君弱臣強，故奸臣賊子，謀殺其主。

The planet of Wood (Jupiter) is stationed over the planet of Earth, the planet of Fire (Mars) is stationed over the planet of Metal, the planet of Earth (Saturn) is stationed over the planet of Water, the planet of Metal (Venus) is stationed over the planet of Wood, and the planet of Water (Mercury) is stationed over the planet of Fire. This is when each planet is stationed over the planet it conquers, known as "guarding the conquered," which symbolizes the superior overpowering the inferior. The divination method states: taxes are levied excessively, labor services are frequent and unending, the people's resources are exhausted, and they can no longer support the demands. Therefore, the people below resent those above. Hence, the strong oppress the weak, and the many oppress the few, leading to the rise of bandits and the outbreak of warfare; another interpretation is that people hate each other. When the planet of Wood is stationed over the planet of Metal, the planet of Fire is stationed over the planet of Water, the planet of Earth is stationed over the planet of Wood, the planet of Metal is stationed over the planet of Fire, and the planet of Water passes over the planet of Earth, this is when each planet is stationed over the planet that conquers it, known as "guarding the unconquered," which symbolizes the inferior rising against the superior. The divination method states: the people and ministers are powerful, encroaching upon their sovereign. The sovereign is weak while the ministers are strong, so villains and traitors plot to kill their lord.

歲星守水，熒惑守木，填星守火，太白守土，辰星守金，是謂五星守其母，陰氣不成之象。法曰氣不足，故旱；多火災，五穀不成；一曰萬物不成。”

The planet of Wood (Jupiter) guards the star of Water, the planet of Fire (Mars) guards the star of Wood, the planet of Earth (Saturn) guards the star of Fire, the planet of Metal (Venus) guards the star of Earth, and the planet of Water (Mercury) guards the star of Metal. This is called "the five planets guarding their mothers," which represents an image of Yin energy failing to produce things. The divination method states: because Yin energy is insufficient, there is drought; frequent fires, and poor harvests of grain; another interpretation says that all things cannot mature.

《易坤靈圖》曰：“王者有至德之萌，則五星若連珠。”（鄭玄曰：“謂聚一舍，以德得天下之象也。”）郗萌曰：“五星俱見，兵布野，期不出三年。”《春秋緯》曰：“帝有過失，既已命絕於天，則五星聚攝提，反衡亂不禁。五星聚，天子窮。”《荊州占》曰：“五星並聚，篡弒成。”《含神霧》曰：“五緯合，王更紀。”

The *Yi Kun Ling Tu* says: When a ruler possesses an exceptionally high virtue, the five planets will appear in a line like a string of pearls. The original commentary cites Zheng Xuan, who explains that "a string of pearls" refers to the five planets gathering in the same celestial mansion, which is a sign of ruling the world through virtue. Xi Meng says: When the five planets appear together, armies will be spread across the fields, and the fulfillment of this omen will not take more than three years. The *Chun Qiu Wei* says: If the Son of Heaven has misconduct, the heavenly mandate has been cut off, and the five planets will gather near the star of the celestial pole, causing the heavenly order to become chaotic and uncontrollable. When the five planets gather, the Son of Heaven will reach a dead end. The *Jingzhou Zhan* says: When the five planets gather together, the act of usurping the throne and killing the sovereign will succeed. The *Han Shen Wu* says: When the five planets (anciently called "the five threads," i.e., the planet of years, the red star, the filling star, the white star, and the morning star) converge, the emperor will change the era and start a new calendar.

《海中占》曰：“五星若合，是謂易行，有德受慶，改立天子，乃奄有四方，子孫藩昌；無德受罰，離其國家，減其宗廟，百姓離去滿四方。五星皆大，其事亦大；五星皆小，其事亦小。”（周將代殷，五星聚於房；齊桓將霸，五星聚於箕；漢高祖入秦，五星聚東井，齊則永終。侯伯本無更紀之事，是五星之聚，有不易行者矣。）

The "Sea of Divination" says: If the five planets congregate in one place, this is called "easy movement," meaning the heavenly path has changed its course. Those with virtue thus receive blessings and are established as emperor, thereby ruling all directions, with their descendants flourishing; those without virtue suffer punishment, leaving their country, their ancestral temples being reduced, and the people scattering and wandering throughout the land. When all five planets appear large, the corresponding events are great; when they appear small, the corresponding events are small. The original commentary notes: When the Zhou dynasty was about to replace the Shang dynasty, the five planets gathered in the Room mansion; when Duke Huan of Qi was about to become hegemon, the five planets gathered in the Winnowing Basket mansion; when Emperor Gaozu of Han entered the pass to destroy the Qin dynasty, the five planets gathered in the Well mansion, and thus the destiny of the state of Qi came to an end. Originally, feudal lords and hegemon leaders did not have the matter of changing dynasties, indicating that the gathering of the five planets does not always correspond to "easy movement."

《洛書雒罪級》曰：“五星一合，不言聖起合有謨。”《考異郵》曰：“五星聚於一宿，天下兵起。”《荊州占》曰：“五星合於一舍，其國主應縮，有德者昌，無德者亡，受其凶殃。五星畢聚於一舍，填星在其中，天下興兵。”《詩緯》曰：“五緯聚房，為義者受福，行惡者亡。”（《帝王世紀》曰：文王在豐，九州諸候咸至，五星聚於房。）

The Luo Writing says: When the five planets congregate, although it does not explicitly mention the rise of a sage, it already contains heaven's plan. The Kao Yi You says: When the five planets gather in the same mansion, the world will have military action. The Jingzhou Divination says: When the five planets congregate in the same mansion, the destiny of the state corresponding to that mansion will decline and retreat; the virtuous will flourish, while the wicked will perish, suffering the calamity brought by this gathering. When all five planets gather in one mansion and the planet of earth (Saturn) is in the center, the world will have military conflict. The Shi Wei says: When the five planets gather in the mansion of Fang, the righteous will receive blessings, while the wicked will perish. The original commentary cites the "Imperial Dynasty Chronicle" which says: When King Wen of Zhou was in Feng City, all the feudal lords of the nine provinces came to pay homage, at that time the five planets gathered in the mansion of Fang.

《海中占》曰：“五星合亢，為五穀頻不成。”郗萌曰：“五星聚於虛，天下之君，必有盟者；二星，則二國君；五星，則五國君；皆相見。”《考靈曜》曰：“帝起受終，五緯合軫。”《河圖》曰：“歲星帥五緯聚房，青帝起。”石氏曰：“歲星所在，五星皆從而聚於一舍，其下之國，可以義致天下。”

The Sea in the Middle of the Sea divination text says: When the five planets congregate in the Neck mansion, it indicates that grain will not be harvested for several years. Xi Meng says: When the five planets gather in the Emptiness mansion, there will certainly be alliances among the kings of the world; if two planets gather, two kings will meet; if five planets gather, five kings will meet, and they will all meet each other. The Examination of the Luminous Stars says: When a king rises and accepts the mandate from the previous dynasty, the five planets gather in the Chariot mansion. The Yellow River Chart says: When the planet Jupiter leads the other four planets to gather in the Room mansion, it indicates the rise of the Eastern Emperor's era. The Shi school says: When the planet Jupiter is in a mansion, the other stars will follow and gather in the same mansion, and the country corresponding to that mansion can gain the world through benevolence and righteousness.

《荊州占》曰：“歲星與火土金水五合同舍，相去三尺以外，七尺以內，相守十日以上，至四十日；天下兩主爭國，大帝易跡，近期三年，遠七年。”《運斗樞》曰：“歲星帥五精聚於東方七宿，蒼帝以仁良溫讓起，皆以所舍占國。”《春秋緯》曰：“五精入牛，從歲星聚；用兵遏亂，以義得天下。”

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When the star of Jupiter (the planet of wood) joins with the stars of fire, earth, metal, and water, forming a gathering of the five stars, and they are within a distance of three to seven chi from each other, facing each other and remaining in opposition for more than ten days, up to forty days, then the world will see two kings contending for power, and the path of the great emperor will change. The near occurrence will be within three years, and the distant one within seven years. The *Yun Dou Shu* says: When the star of Jupiter leads the essence of the five stars to gather in the seven constellations of Dongfang Jiao, Kang, Di, Fang, Xin, Wei, and Ji in the eastern sky, it signifies the rise of the Eastern Blue Emperor's era, brought about by benevolence, kindness, mildness, and humility. The specific country it affects is determined by the division of the constellations where the stars gather. The *Chunqiu Wei* says: When the essence of the five stars enters the Ox Constellation, following the star of Jupiter, it indicates the use of military force to suppress chaos and the attainment of the world through righteousness.

（班固《天文志》曰：漢高元年，有五星聚於東井，歷推之，從歲星也。此高皇帝受命之符，故客謂張耳曰：東井秦地，漢王入秦，五星從歲星聚，當以義取天下。秦王子嬰降於軹道，漢王以屬吏，曰寶器、婦女，任所取，閉宮封門，還軍將次於灞上，以候諸侯，與人民約法三章，人無不歸心者，可謂能行義矣。李奇注曰：歲星得其正度，其四星隨此常正行，故曰從也。孟康注曰：歲星先至，先至為主也。洪範《天文星辰變占》曰：客有齊人甘文卿者，善天文，後五年，高帝遂定天下。）

The original book's marginal notes cite Ban Gu's "Book of Han, Records of Astronomy" which says: In the first year of Emperor Gaozu of Han, five planets gathered in the Well mansion. Using the calendar to calculate, it was found that they followed the planet of Jupiter. This was a sign of the heavenly mandate bestowed upon the high emperor. Therefore, a guest of his said to Zhang Er: The Well mansion is the celestial region corresponding to the state of Qin. When the Han King entered the pass and destroyed Qin, the five planets gathered there following Jupiter, so he should have gained the empire by virtue. Prince Ziying of Qin surrendered at the roadside of Zhidian, and the Han King handed him over to officials for custody, declaring that treasures and women could be taken by all, while he himself ordered the closing of the palace gates, sealing the treasuries, and withdrawing his troops to Bashi, waiting for the other feudal lords. He also made a simple agreement of three laws with the people, and all were loyal to him. This can be said to be acting with righteousness. Li Qi noted: The planet of Jupiter moved in accordance with the normal course, and the other four stars followed it in order, so it was called "from." Meng Kang noted: The planet of Jupiter arrived first, and the first one was the main star. It also cites the "Hongan Fan Astronomical Stars and Constellations Divination" which says: At that time, a guest from Qi named Gan Wenqing was skilled in astronomy. Five years later, Emperor Gaozu indeed pacified the empire.

石氏曰：“熒惑所在，五星皆從而聚於一舍，其下之國，可以禮致天下。”《運斗樞》曰：“熒惑帥五精聚於南方七宿，赤帝以寬明多智略起。”黃帝曰：“填星與五星俱聚一舍，而填星亡焉，所舍國亡；填星在焉，大如狼星而黃，天下之兵雖合，其國不亡。”《運斗樞》曰：“填星帥五精聚於中央，黃帝以重厚賢聖起。”

The Shi school says: When the planet Mars (the Malefic of violence) is located in a particular star mansion, all other stars will follow and gather together in the same mansion. The country corresponding to that mansion can gain the Mandate of Heaven through ritual propriety. The "Yun Dou Shu" says: When the planet Mars leads the essence of the five planets to gather in the seven mansions of the Southern Dipper, the Southern Flame Emperor's era will rise through benevolence, wisdom, and clarity. The Yellow Emperor says: When the planet Saturn (the Fill star) gathers with other stars in one mansion, if Saturn then disappears, the country corresponding to that mansion will perish; if Saturn remains, appearing as large as the star Wolf and shining yellow, then even though armies from all over the world converge, that country will not perish. The "Yun Dou Shu" says: When the planet Saturn leads the essence of the five planets to gather in the central mansion, the Yellow Emperor's era will rise through sincerity, gravity, and virtue.

石氏曰：“填星所在，五星皆從而聚於一舍，其下之國，可以兵致天下；太白所在，五星皆從而聚於一舍，其下之國，可以重德致天下；太白所在，五星皆從而聚於一舍，其下之國，可以兵致天下。”《天官書》曰：“太白與五星相犯，大戰；出其南，南國敗；北其北，北國敗；行疾，武；不行，文。”

The Shi school says: When the planet of earth (Saturn) is in a certain mansion, and all other stars gather together in the same mansion, the country corresponding to that mansion can conquer the world by military strength; when the planet of metal (Jupiter) is in a certain mansion, and all other stars gather together in the same mansion, the country corresponding to that mansion can conquer the world by virtue. When the planet of metal (Jupiter) is in a certain mansion, and all other stars gather together in the same mansion, the country corresponding to that mansion can conquer the world by military strength. These two statements starting with the planet of metal (Jupiter) differ in meaning, and the original text repeats them, so they are both preserved. The "Book of Celestial Officials" says: When the planet of metal (Jupiter) and other stars conflict with each other, there will be a great battle; if the planet of metal (Jupiter) appears to the south of the opposing side, the southern country will be defeated; if it appears to the north of the opposing side, the northern country will be defeated; if it moves quickly, it indicates the use of military force; if it stops, it indicates the use of civil administration.

《運斗樞》曰：“太白帥五精聚於西方七宿，白帝以勇武誠信，多節義起。”《河圖》曰：“太白帥五緯聚參，白帝起。辰精帥五精聚於北方七宿，黑帝以清平、靜潔、通明起。”《春秋緯》曰：“五星從辰星，聚北方七宿，黑帝起，以宿占國。”《河圖》曰：“辰星帥五緯聚營室，黑帝起。”石氏曰：“辰星所在，五星皆從而聚於一舍，其下之國，可以法致天下。”

The *Yun Dou Shu* says: The planet Tai Bai (Venus) leads the essence of the five stars to gather in the seven constellations of the west, namely Qiu, Lou, Wei, Mao, Bi, Zi, and Can, signifying the rise of the White Emperor's era through bravery, integrity, and a strong sense of righteousness. The *He Tu* says: Tai Bai leads the other four stars to gather in the constellation Can, signifying the rise of the White Emperor's era. The planet Chen Xing (Saturn) leads the essence of the five stars to gather in the seven constellations of the north, namely Dou, Niu, Nu, Xu, Wei, Shi, and Bi, signifying the rise of the Black Emperor's era through clarity, fairness, tranquility, purity, and insight. The *Chun Qiu Wei* says: the other stars follow Chen Xing to gather in the seven constellations of the north, signifying the rise of the Black Emperor's era; the country corresponding to this should be determined by the division of the constellations. The *He Tu* says: Chen Xing leads the other four stars to gather in the constellation Shi Su, signifying the rise of the Black Emperor's era. The Shi school says: when Chen Xing is in a constellation, the other stars all follow to gather in the same mansion, the country corresponding to that mansion can gain the world through legal systems.

《考異郵》曰：“四表戒，五星薄，天下分爭，甲兵作。”郗萌曰：“五星一相牴觸，軍半破；再相牴觸，軍大破。五精星相薄，天下大戰，相去二三尺，破軍殺將，流血滂滂，天下饑荒。”《春秋緯》曰：“五星錯斗，臣挾兵，上下相持。”《合誠圖》曰：“五星斗，天子去；一曰國昏亂，憂在公侯。”

The "Kao Yi You" says: When alarms arise at the four directions, the five planets approach each other closely, "thin" each other, the world will split into conflicts, and armor and weapons will be raised. Xi Meng says: When the five planets clash once, half the army will be lost; when they clash again, the army will suffer a great defeat. When the spirits of the five planets approach each other closely, there will be a great war in the world; if they are only two or three feet apart, the army will be destroyed, generals will be killed, blood will flow widely, and the world will face famine. The "Chun Qiu Wei" says: When the five planets cross each other in conflict, it is an omen of ministers seizing military power and the upper and lower ranks being at a deadlock. The "He Cheng Tu" says: When the five planets clash, the Son of Heaven will have to leave his position and flee; another view is that the state affairs will be in chaos, and calamity will fall upon the marquises.

甘氏曰：“歲星、熒惑、填、太白四星與辰星斗，皆為戰；兵不在外；皆為在內。”郗萌曰：“五星斗，相貫牴觸，光耀相及，有兵大戰，覆軍殺將。”《荊州占》曰：“五星合斗，人走馬馳，九州鼎沸，棄其妻兒，五郡無主，夷狄為君；五星相與合斗，及列宿乘凌牴觸，磨靡及入貫，刺犯守勾巳環繞，所在之國，皆為兵喪，滅國之殃。”石氏曰：“五星主司人君諸侯大臣之過，五星合斗者，皆為謀反大臣當有誅者。”

The Gan school says: When the planet Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, and Mercury clash with the star of the hour, it indicates warfare; if the armies are not outside the borders, then the calamity will occur within the country. Xi Meng says: When the five planets clash, they penetrate and collide with each other, their light touching one another, which will result in a great battle with total annihilation of troops and the death of the commander. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the five planets congregate and clash, people flee and horses gallop, the nine provinces are like water boiling in a cauldron, people abandon their wives and children to flee, five commanderies lose their rulers, and barbarians become kings. When the five planets congregate and clash, or when they overpower and collide with the twenty-eight constellations, or when they rub against each other and penetrate through, or when they pierce and remain, or when they circle around in a curved path without moving away, all these celestial phenomena in the regions they affect will bring about military disasters, chaos, and the calamity of a nation's destruction. The Shi school says: The five planets are responsible for observing the faults of the sovereign, dukes, and ministers. When the five planets congregate and clash, it indicates that there will be a minister plotting rebellion who should be executed.

《漢天文志》曰：“四星若合，是為大湯。（晉灼曰，湯猶盪滌也。）其君兵喪並起，君子憂，小人流。”（按《宋書》曰：始興九年，歲填災惑、太白聚東井，後歷五年至晉義熙十三年，相國劉裕入關，擒姚泓於長安，而秦亡。）《荊州占》曰：“四星若合於一舍，其國當王有德者繁昌，保有宗廟，無德者喪。”

The Book of Han, Records of Astronomy, says: If four stars congregate, this is called 'Great Tang'. The commentary in the original text cites Jin Zhuo's explanation that 'Tang' means 'to wash away'. This portends that the ruler of the country will face military calamity and mourning at the same time, the virtuous officials in power will be distressed, and the common people will flee. The commentary in the original text says: According to the Book of Song, in the ninth year of Shixing, the planet Jupiter, the planet Venus, the planet Mars, and the planet Venus (the original text says 'zaihuo') gathered in the Well Mansion; after five years, in the thirteenth year of Yixi during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the Chancellor Liu Yu led his troops into the pass and captured Yao Hong in Chang'an, leading to the fall of the Later Qin. The Jiangzhou Divination says: If four stars congregate in the same mansion, then the country corresponding to that mansion should produce a king: a virtuous one will bring prosperity and preserve the ancestral temple and state; an unvirtuous one will result in downfall.

The original commentary says: According to the "Celestial Officials" section of the "Book of the Later Han," in the sixth year of Emperor Hui of the Jin dynasty's Yongjia period, the planet Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus gathered between the Ox mansion and the Girl mansion, moving back and forth, advancing and retreating at times; afterwards, two commanderies were lost, and Emperor Sun of the Jin dynasty revived the dynasty and established the state in the area of Yangzhou, which was the fulfillment of this omen. In the second month of the second year of Yixi of Emperor An of the Jin dynasty, on the day of Guihai, the planet Mars, Saturn, Venus, and Jupiter gathered in the Legs mansion and the Bond mansion, following Saturn. The Legs and Bond mansions are the territories corresponding to the state of Lu. At that time, Murong Chao falsely claimed the imperial title in the state of Qi, invading and plundering the commanderies of Xu and Yan, and continuously raiding the borders, reaching as far as the Huai River and the Si River regions; Yao Xing and Qiao Zong separately falsely claimed the imperial title in the state of Qin and the state of Shu; Lu Xun and Northern Wei also invaded each other from north and south. In the fifth year of Yixi, the High Ancestor of the Song dynasty, Liu Yu, defeated the Xianbei people in the north; in the ninth year, the four stars again gathered in the Well mansion, which was the territory corresponding to the state of Qin; in the thirteenth year, the state of Guanzhong was pacified, and all the bandits causing chaos were eliminated, so the will of heaven and the people were united, allowing the establishment of the state. The old entries that mention the acceptance of the mandate in the second year of Yuanxi are all omens of these celestial phenomena. In the fourth year of Yuanshi of Emperor Ping of the Han dynasty, the stars gathered in the Willow mansion and the Extended Net mansion, each staying for five days; the Willow and Extended Net mansions are the territories corresponding to the three rivers. Afterwards, there was the usurpation by Wang Mang and the uprising of the Red Eyebrows, and later, Emperor Guangwu rose to power and restored the Han dynasty in Luoyang. In the sixth year of Yongjia of Emperor Hui of the Jin dynasty, the four stars gathered in the Ox and Girl mansions, and afterwards there was the chaos caused by Liu Cong and Shi Le, while Emperor Yuan of the Jin dynasty revived the Jin dynasty in the area of Yangzhou. In the first year of Chiping of Emperor Xian of the Han dynasty, the four stars gathered in the Heart mansion, and again in Ji and Wei, the Heart mansion, which was the territory corresponding to the state of Yu; afterwards, there was the chaos caused by Dong Zhuo and Li Jue, as well as the uprisings of the Yellow Turbans and the Red Eyebrows, and later, Cao Cao welcomed Emperor Xian and established the capital at Xuchang, thus using the commanderies of Yan and Yu as the foundation to stabilize the capital and start the era of Jian'an. In the twenty-second year of Jian'an, the four stars gathered again; in the twenty-fifth year, Wei Wen帝 Cao Pi accepted the mandate and replaced the Han dynasty — this is an example of the four stars gathering twice and fulfilling the omen of "the change of the dynasty as described in the Book of Changes." It also cites Tan Daoluan's "Jinyang Spring" which says: In the nineteenth year of Taoyuan of Emperor Xiaowu of the Jin dynasty, on the day of Guiyou, the planet Venus, Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter gathered in the Root mansion; in the twenty-first year of Taoyuan, on the day of Gengshen, Emperor Xiaowu died.

《荊州占》曰：“四星合斗，閉其關梁，女子運倉，天下半亡。”《文耀鉤》曰：“歲星與三星斗，九州謀王。”郗萌曰：“歲星、熒惑，陽也；太白、辰星，陰也；陽主中邦，陰主外邦，陽與陰合，中外邦相連以兵；陽與陽合，兵謀在國；陰與陽合，兵謀在外邦。熒惑在未申間，太白亦出酉；其出也，必有令。四星俱出，令大；二星俱出，令小；不然者，必有賞賜之事。”

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When four stars converge and clash, all passageways and bridges should be closed, women are driven to transport grain to the granary, and the whole world will lose more than half its people. The *Wenyao Gou* says: When the year star clashes with the other three stars, there will be someone plotting to become king within the nine provinces. Xi Meng says: The year star and the Mars star belong to the yang category, while the bright star and the morning star belong to the yin category. Yang stars represent the Central Plains states, and yin stars represent foreign lands. When yang stars converge with yin stars, warfare will break out between the Central Plains and foreign lands; when yang stars converge with yang stars, military strategies will originate within the country; when yin stars converge with yang stars, military strategies will originate in foreign lands. When the Mars star reaches between the position of Wei and Shen, and the bright star appears from the position of You, this indicates that a decree will definitely be issued. When four stars appear together, the decree will be of great importance; when two stars appear together, the decree will be of lesser importance; if no decree is issued, there will certainly be an event of reward or grant.

《荊州占》曰：“歲星與太白、熒惑、辰星同合，相去三尺以外，留守七日以上，至二十日，天下兵起，國主絕嗣。天下三主鼎足，俱用兵，必有滅國，親戚內，自相賊；九州謀殺作兵，社稷危亡，宗廟毀滅，期百八十日，殘戮九年，乃更始。其守七寸以內，芒角七日以上，至四十日，天下滅亡。人民殄盡，行將易紀，宮殿飛流，期一年，災十年。”（火起為飛，水湧為流。）石氏曰：“熒惑與歲星、填星、太白會成勾巳，光不相及，主以攻者不救亂，三王九僑，二十一名，臣爭為主，更相殘賊。”

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When the star of years, the bright star, the red star, and the star of the hour all congregate together, and they are more than three chi apart, remaining stationary for more than seven days up to twenty days, the whole world will see military campaigns, and the sovereign will lose his descendants. There will be three kings standing in opposition, all launching military campaigns, inevitably leading to the fall of states, mutual destruction among relatives; within the nine provinces, frequent assassinations and warfare will occur, the state and ancestral temples will be in peril and destroyed. This will happen within a period of one hundred and eighty days, and the calamity will last for nine years before a new beginning occurs. If they remain within seven inches of each other and produce apointed rays (芒角 is a term for a bright spike or horn-like projection), lasting for more than seven days up to forty days, the whole world will be destroyed, the people will perish, and a change of dynasty will occur. Palaces may be set on fire or flooded by water. This will happen within a year, and the disaster will last for ten years. The original commentary says: A fire outbreak is called 'flying', and a water surge is called 'flowing'. The Shi school says: When the red star, the star of years, the star of the hour, and the bright star congregate, forming a curved shape, and their light does not reach each other, the side that initiates the attack will not be able to quell the chaos. The three kings, nine heroes, and twenty-one names will emerge, ministers will vie for the throne, and they will destroy each other.

《海中占》曰：“三星合其國，外有兵喪，人民數改立侯王。”（按班固《天文志》曰：孝文後六年四月乙巳，水、木、火三合於東井，是歲誅反者周殷長安市。其七年六月，文帝崩。孝景元年七月乙丑，金、木、水三合於張，其二年三月立皇子為王準陽、汝南、河間、臨江、長江、廣川也。）

The book "Sea Divination" says: When three stars converge in a certain region, there will be military calamities and funerals outside the country, and the people frequently change their kings. The original commentary says: According to Ban Gu's "Book of Han · Astronomical Records," in the sixth year of Emperor Wen's Houxuan period, on the fourth day of the fourth lunar month, the stars Jupiter, Venus, and Mars converged in the Well Mansion; that year, in Chang'an market, Zhou Yin, who plotted rebellion, was executed. In the sixth month of the seventh year of Houxuan period, Emperor Wen died. In the first year of Emperor Jing's reign, on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, the stars Jupiter, Venus, and Mars converged in the Extended Net Mansion; in the second year of Emperor Jing's reign, in the third lunar month, the皇子 were enfeoffed as kings, and territories were divided in Huayang, Ruzhong, Hejian, Lingjiang, Changsha, and Guangchuan.

班固《天文志》曰：“三星若合，是謂驚位，是謂絕行。（宋均曰：有兵喪故曰驚位，改立故曰絕行。）外有兵與喪，立王。”（按成帝河平二年十月下旬，填星在東井、軒轅南端大星尺餘，歲星在其西北尺所，熒惑在其西北二尺所，皆從西方來；填星貫輿鬼，先到；歲星次，熒惑亦貫輿鬼。十一月上旬，歲星、熒惑西去，填星皆西北逆行，其年十一月丁巳夜，郎王歆大逆不道，牂牁太守立捕殺歆。三年九月甲戌，東郡莊平男子俠丹闢，兄弟五人，群黨為盜，攻燔宮寺，綺縣長吏，盜取印綬，自稱將軍。三月辛卯，左將軍千秋卒，右將軍史丹為左將軍。四年四月戊申，梁王賀薨。）

Ban Gu's "Book of Han: Astronomical Records" says: If three stars are in conjunction, this is called "Jingwei" (startling position), also called "Juehang" (cutting path). The commentary in the original text cites Song Jun, who says: Because there is military disaster and mourning, it is called "Jingwei"; because there is a change in the ruler, it is called "Juehang." This indicates military affairs and mourning outside the state, and the establishment of a new king. The commentary says: According to the events of the second year of HePing in Emperor Cheng of Han, in the last ten days of the tenth lunar month, the planet Tianming was in the Well mansion, more than a foot south of the main star of the Xuanyan constellation; the planet Suiming was one foot to the northwest of Tianming, and the planet Honghuo was two feet to the northwest of Tianming, all moving from the west. Tianming passed through the Ghost mansion, arriving first, followed by Suiming, then Honghuo. In the first ten days of the eleventh lunar month, Suiming and Honghuo moved westward, and Tianming also moved westward and逆行. On the night of the fourth lunar month, the day Dingsi, a court official named Wang Xin committed treason, and the governor of Zhangge immediately arrested and killed Wang Xin. On the day Jiaxu of the ninth lunar month in the third year of HePing, five brothers named Xie Dan and others from Zhongping County, Dongju, gathered bandits to commit robbery, attacked and burned government offices, harmed county officials (the character "qi" at the bottom of the original text is suspected to be a mistake), stole official seals and sashes, and claimed to be generals. On the day Xinmao of the third lunar month in the fourth year of HePing, the Left General Qianqiu died, and the Right General Shi Dan was transferred to the position of Left General. On the day Wushen of the fourth lunar month in the fourth year of HePing, the Prince of Liang, Liu He, died.

司馬彪《天文志》曰：“考獻建安十八年秋，歲星、填星、熒惑俱入太微，逆行，皆守帝座百餘日，占曰：三星入太微，人主改政。二十五年正月，魏文帝受禪。”《荊州占》曰：“三星合於一舍，其國可復修德者強，無德者受殃，三星合斗，天下動。”《海中占》曰：“熒惑、填星、辰星近角合斗，女子為天下害，大臣殺主。”

In the Shuibu's "Continued Book of Han: Astronomical Records," it is said that in the eighteenth year of the Jian'an era of Emperor Xian of Han, the planet Jupiter, the planet Saturn, and the planet Mars all entered the Taimei Enclosure, and were all moving in retrograde motion, remaining stationed near the star of the Imperial Seat for over a hundred days. The divination text says: When the three stars enter Taimei, the sovereign should change the system. In the first month of the twenty-fifth year of Jian'an, Wei Wen帝 Cao Pi accepted the mandate of heaven. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the three stars congregate in the same dwelling, the country of that region still has a chance to change: those who cultivate virtue will become strong, while those without virtue will suffer calamity; when the three stars clash, the world will be in turmoil. The "Hai Zhong Divination" says: When Mars, Saturn, and the planet Jupiter congregate and clash near the Horn Mansion, it indicates that a woman will become a danger to the world, and ministers will kill the sovereign.

郗萌曰：“歲星與熒惑、太白斗，殺大將；近環之，貫之，殺邊將；又歲與熒惑、填星相合，與參會一合，君子過也。有亂相為水，為旱、為飢、火土功。熒惑與歲星若與辰星舍尾，皆為用事者當之，天下開牢、大赦。太白與木星、填星合其國，謀兵起，不戰。”

Xi Meng said: When the star of years (Jupiter) confronts the red star (Mars) and the white star (Saturn), it indicates that the general will be killed. If they are close and encircle or pierce through each other, it signifies that the border generals will be killed. Also, when the star of years (Jupiter) meets the red star (Mars) and the filling star (Saturn), and they gather together with the Three Stars mansion, it indicates that the virtuous officials in power have faults. There will be disorder in the country, and the prime minister will bear the blame, or it may indicate water disaster, or drought, or famine, or fire incidents and construction projects involving earth and wood. When the red star (Mars) and the star of years (Jupiter) or the filling star (Saturn) share the same mansion in the Tail mansion, it indicates that the person in power will bear the calamity, and the country will release prisoners and issue a general pardon. When the white star (Saturn) meets the star of years (Jupiter) and the filling star (Saturn) in the territory of a certain country, there will be plots for military action, but actual fighting will not occur.

《荊州占》曰：“歲星與太白、填星同舍，相去三尺以外，國有女喪，有白衣會，用兵不戰；相去七寸以內，名曰交芒；將軍與皇后為奸，謀殺其君；相守七日以至四十日，必成刑，期百八十日，國主應以善令，則無咎。歲星與熒惑、填星同間，相去三尺以外，各留七日以上至二十日，天下兵起，五穀大貴，人民相食，國分土地；其相去七寸以內，名曰交芒；天下大叛，弒君父，妻去其夫，期百八十日。

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When the Star of Years, the Bright Star, and the Filling Star are in the same place, and are more than three feet apart, it indicates that there will be the death of a woman in the country, with a mourning ceremony in white clothes, although there is military movement, there will be no actual battle; if they are within seven inches of each other, this is called "intersecting芒", meaning the芒 of the two stars meet, indicating that the general and the empress have private relations and plot to kill their sovereign; if the two stars remain together for seven to forty days, there will certainly be punishment, and the time of the disaster will be one hundred and eighty days; if the ruler can respond with good governance and righteous laws, there will be no calamity. When the Star of Years, the Fiery Star, and the Filling Star are together, and are more than three feet apart, each staying for more than seven days up to twenty days, the whole country will mobilize troops, grain prices will surge, people will eat each other, and the land will be divided; if they are within seven inches of each other, it is also called "intersecting芒", indicating a great rebellion across the country, killing the sovereign and father, wives abandoning their husbands, and the time of the disaster will be one hundred and eighty days.

太白與歲星、填星色赤為兵；黃為旱；蒼為春多死亡。歲星、熒惑、太白三星合於一舍，其國大亂，若相去一尺至三尺，守之七日以上至二十日，天下皆兵。填星與太白俱入熒惑中，天下且有大謀兵。木、金，火三星合斗，其分國絕嗣，三王鼎足而居，必有亡國，內親相賊，九州作亂，社稷滅亡，期百八十日，遠一年。太白與熒惑、辰星春斗，其歲旱；夏斗，不出三年，主易；秋斗，不留其年，兵起；冬斗，不出三年，有女喪。”

The planet Tai Bai (Venus) and the planets Sui Xing (Jupiter), Tian Xing (Saturn) come together; if their color is red, it indicates military affairs; if yellow, it signifies drought; if green, it indicates many deaths in spring. When the planets Sui Xing, Ying Huo (Mars), and Tai Bai meet in the same constellation, the country corresponding to that constellation will experience great chaos. If they are separated by one to three chi, and remain in conjunction for more than seven days up to twenty days, there will be warfare throughout the land. When Tian Xing and Tai Bai enter the constellation of Ying Huo, the whole country will have major plans for military action. When the planets Sui Xing (Jupiter), Jin Xing (Mars), and Ying Huo (Mars) meet and clash, the country corresponding to that constellation will lose its lineage. Three kings, Wang Ding, will stand in opposition, and a country will be destroyed, with close relatives turning against each other, chaos in the nine provinces, and the state will be ruined, with the time of occurrence being one hundred and eighty days, or as long as a year. When Tai Bai, Ying Huo, and Chen Xing meet in conflict in spring, there will be drought that year; in summer, the king will change within three years; in autumn, there will be military action within the same year; in winter, there will be the death of a woman within three years.

司馬彪《天文志》曰：“填星與太白辰星合宿，為國亡地，戰不勝。火、金、水俱在斗，有戮將，若死相。熒惑、太白、辰星俱在東井，內外有兵。木、金、火三量合軫，為白衣會也。”

Simao Biao's "Continued Book of Han: Astronomical Records" says: When the planet of filling (Jing Xing), the bright star (Tai Bai), and the morning star (Chen Xing) congregate in the same mansion, it indicates the country will lose territory and fail in warfare. When the malefic of violence (Huo Xing), the bright star (Tai Bai), and the water star (Shui Xing) are all in the Dipper mansion, it indicates a general will be killed or the prime minister will die. When the malefic of violence (Feng Huo), the bright star (Tai Bai), and the morning star (Chen Xing) are all in the Well mansion, it indicates military affairs will occur both within and outside the country. 《天文志》曰：“二星合，有小兵，小人愁，人君憂。”《海中占》曰：“二星相近者，其殃大，相遠者，其殃小，無傷。”《荊州占》曰：“二星若合，其國有兵，改立侯王，有德者興，無德者亡。”

The "Astronomical Records" says: When two stars converge, it indicates there will be minor military conflicts, with the common people suffering and the ruler worrying. The "Divination in the Sea" says: When two stars are close together, the calamity is great; if they are far apart, the calamity is minor, or perhaps there is no harm at all. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: If two stars converge, then the region corresponding to that star will experience military conflict, and there will be a change in the ruling prince: the virtuous will rise to power, while the wicked will be defeated.

郗萌曰：“歲星、熒惑，陽也；太白、辰星，陰也。陰主外邦，陽主中邦；陽與陰合，中外邦相連以兵；陽與陽合，兵謀在國；陰與陰合，兵謀在外邦。”甘氏曰：“歲星干熒惑，為地動；熒惑干木星，蟄蟲冬出動，雷旱行，禾不成。”《荊州占》曰：“熒惑犯歲星，為戰。”（按《宋書天文志》曰：“晉大安三年正月熒惑犯歲星，七月衛將軍除賒率兵，奉帝伐成都，六軍敗績，賒擅兵逼乘輿。九月壬戌，又攻成都於鄴，鄴潰，成都由是衰亡；帝遷洛，張方又脅如長安也。）

Xi Meng said: The star of the year (Jupiter) and the malefic of violence (Mars) belong to the yang category, while the bright white star (Venus) and the water star (Saturn) belong to the yin category. The yin category governs foreign lands, and the yang category governs the central plains; when a yang star meets a yin star, there will be military conflict between the central plains and foreign lands; when two yang stars meet, military strategies will emerge within the country; when two yin stars meet, military strategies will emerge in foreign lands. The Gan school said: When the star of the year is in conflict with the malefic of violence, it indicates an earthquake; when the malefic of violence is in conflict with the star of the year, it indicates that insects that are dormant in winter will emerge and move about, thunder will echo in winter, drought will spread, and crops will not mature. The "Jingzhou Divination" said: When the malefic of violence invades the star of the year, there will be warfare. The original commentary notes: According to the "Song Book · Astronomical Records," in the third year of Tai'an of the Western Jin Dynasty, in the first lunar month, the malefic of violence invaded the star of the year; in the seventh lunar month, the general Wei Jiangjun Chu She led an army to obey the Son of Heaven and attack the Duke of Chengdu, and the six armies suffered a great defeat, with Chu She acting independently and forcing the Son of Heaven's chariot. On the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, they attacked the Duke of Chengdu again in the city of Yecheng, and Yecheng fell, leading to the decline of the Duke of Chengdu; the Emperor Hui moved to Luoyang, and Zhang Fang again forced him to move to Chang'an.

《荊州占》曰：“熒惑犯歲星，冬雷鳴，蟄蟲行，人民驚恐；又曰：熒惑當出不出，謂之潛行；見而近歲星出其北，天下有急，出其南，有謀在中。”又曰“歲星與熒惑接芒於西方，諸侯君臣有憂，其明年春害農時；與歲星會於東方，日為之食，不出二年，宰相亂人主之計；不定、乍退，乍進；不出三年大兵起。歲星與熒惑同舍，相去三尺以內，相守七日以上至四十日，其國有反臣，五穀傷，百姓不安，期一年。”

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When the planet Mars invades the planet Jupiter, it indicates thunder in winter, with insects that have been dormant emerging and moving about, causing people to be frightened. It also says: When Mars arrives at the time it should appear but does not, this is called "hidden movement"; when it appears and approaches Jupiter, if it emerges from the north of Jupiter, there will be sudden difficulties throughout the country; if it emerges from the south of Jupiter, there will be people within the country plotting against the ruler. It also says: When Jupiter and Mars meet at the western edge, the ministers and kings of the feudal states will have troubles, and in the following spring, agricultural activities will be disrupted; when they meet at the eastern edge, a solar eclipse will occur, and within two years, the prime minister will disrupt the ruler's plans; if the two stars move unpredictably, sometimes retreating and sometimes advancing, within three years, great military conflicts will arise. When Jupiter and Mars are in the same room, within three feet of each other, and remain stationary for more than seven days up to forty days, then in the region corresponding to their position, there will be a rebellious minister, crops will be damaged, and the people will be unsettled, and this will happen within a year.

《天官書》曰：“木火合，為旱，為飢；戰，北軍困。歲星與熒惑合柳，歲星色赤，兵起；黃、白，五穀傷；黑，為憂；青而角赤，有兵起，期三十日，遠期六十日。歲星與熒惑合相，守國君大憂，近期二年，遠期三年而發。歲星與熒惑合於宿之陽，母子同鄉，其國寧；合於宿之陰，有兵起。歲星與熒惑合相，守其國，凶消；十日以上，大人作亂，期三年。木與火合，大臣匿謀，有反者，若主亡地，其國水。”

The Tian Gao Shu says: When the wood star and the malefic of violence meet, there will be drought and famine; if they fight, the army facing north will be in trouble. When the year star and the荧惑 meet in the willow mansion, if the year star is red, there will be military action; if it is yellow or white, the five grains will be damaged; if it is black, there will be worries; if it is green with a red tip, there will be military affairs, which will occur within thirty days, or up to sixty days. When the year star and the荧惑 meet and stay together, the king will have great worries, which will occur within two years, or up to three years. When the year star and the荧惑 meet in the southern part of the mansion, it is like a mother and child living in the same village, and the region will be peaceful; if they meet in the northern part, there will be military affairs. When the year star and the荧惑 meet and stay together, if they stay in the region's mansion, the calamity can be resolved; if they stay for more than ten days, there will be rebellion by important people, which will occur within three years. When the wood star and the malefic of violence meet, ministers will have secret plots, someone will rebel, or the king will lose territory, and the country will suffer from floods.

司馬彪《天文志》曰：“歲星與熒惑合於虛，為喪。”石氏曰：“熒惑與攝提再合宿，相不死，出走。”《海中占》曰：“熒惑與木星合，為內亂，大臣謀主。”《荊州占》曰：“熒惑與歲星合，大臣匿謀，行，疾兵從之，戰不勝。熒惑與歲星合、同相守其分，走期三年。熒惑與攝提再合，有走主，謂東行合、西行又合，不出二年。”

Sima Biao's "Continued Book of Han: Astronomical Records" says: When the planet Jupiter and Mars meet in the mansion of Xuxu, it presages death. The Shi school says: When Mars meets the star of the ascending year twice in the same mansion, the prime minister will not die but must flee. "The Sea Divination" says: When Mars and Jupiter meet, it indicates internal disorder and ministers plotting against the sovereign. "The Jingzhou Divination" says: When Mars and Jupiter meet, ministers are hiding plots; once the plot is launched, sudden military action follows, and battles cannot be won. When Mars and Jupiter meet and both remain stationed in a particular region, the people of that region will flee, and this will occur within three years. When Mars meets the star of the ascending year twice, there will be a fleeing sovereign; the term "twice meeting" refers to Mars meeting the star once when moving east and again when moving west, and this will be verified within two years.

司馬彪《天文志》曰：“熒惑犯歲星為奸；臣謀，大將戮。”石氏曰：“熒惑與歲星合，其國若水。熒惑與歲星聚於一舍，熒惑在歲星之上，名曰子母同光，其國以大強，留百日，其國且重德致天下；在下亦然。”《海中占》曰：“熒惑木星斗，有夷狄之害，有弒大將。”《天官書》曰：“歲星與火合斗者，大臣弒其君、子弒其父。”

Simao Biao's "Continued Book of Han: Records of Celestial Phenomena" says: When the planet Mars invades the planet Jupiter, there will be matters of treachery; ministers will plot rebellion, and generals will be killed. The Shi school says: When Mars and Jupiter meet, the country corresponding to that region will suffer from water disasters. When Mars and Jupiter gather in the same place, with Mars above Jupiter, this is called "mother and child shining together," and the country corresponding to that region will become strong; if it stays for one hundred days, that country will gain the world through its profound virtue; if Mars is below Jupiter, the interpretation is the same. The "Sea Divination" says: When Mars and Jupiter fight, there will be harm from barbarians, and a general will be killed. The "Book of Celestial Officials" says: When Jupiter and Mars meet and fight, it indicates that a minister will kill his sovereign, and a son will kill his father.

《荊州占》曰：“熒惑與歲星斗，其名曰讒星，不出其年，強國有易相；又曰為內亂。”《文耀鉤》曰：“熒惑與木斗，夷狄肆害。”《荊州占》曰：“熒惑歲星合斗於夏，兵飢並起，其分相凶，不可舉兵，殃大將，一曰有病君。歲星食熒惑，不出三年而國亡。”《海中占》曰：“熒惑貫歲星，弒小將。”石氏曰：“熒惑與歲星相拂，天下有爭言。漢《天文志》曰：“熒惑與木斗，有病君，民飢歲惡。”《荊州占》曰：“熒惑守歲星，大赦。”

Another interpretation suggests it indicates internal disorder. The *Wenyao Gou* says: When Mars and Jupiter clash, the barbarians will act recklessly and cause harm. The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When Mars and Jupiter meet and clash in summer, military disaster and famine will arise together; the prime minister of the corresponding region will face misfortune, and military action should be avoided, with the general suffering calamity; another interpretation suggests the king will fall ill. When Jupiter devours Mars, the country will perish within three years. The *Hai Zhong Divination* says: When Mars pierces through Jupiter, it indicates the death of a subordinate general. The Shi school says: When Mars and Jupiter brush against each other, there will be disputes throughout the land. The *Han Shu · Tianwen Zhi* says: When Mars and Jupiter clash, the king will fall ill, the people will suffer from famine, and the harvest will be poor. The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When Mars stops at Jupiter, it indicates the issuance of a general pardon.
