The four stars of the Room Mansion are the Bright Hall of the Son of Heaven, and also symbolize the position of the chariot and the ministers, so when the Malefic of violence invades them, it is most ominous. The Wen Yao Gou says: When the Malefic of violence invades the Room Mansion, the general rebels, and this is most feared by the sovereign. The Jingzhou Divination says: When the Malefic of violence guards, invades, or attacks the Room Mansion, the sovereign faces worries; if the star appears red, the worry is about military affairs, with corpses piling up like mountains; if it appears black, the ministers on the right side are executed; if it appears white with sharp edges, the whole country mourns.

The original commentary states: Sima Biao's "Continued Book of Han: Records of Celestial Phenomena" records that in the ninth month of the fifth year of Emperor He of Han's Yongyuan era, the planet Mars invaded the first star to the north of the constellation Fangsu, which governs the position of the prime minister; by the first month of the sixth year of Yongyuan, the Minister of Works Ding Hong died. The "Book of Song: Records of Celestial Phenomena" records that in the fifth month of the Tahe era of Emperor Ming of Wei, the planet Mars invaded the constellation Fangsu, and the divination text says: the four stars of Fangsu represent the positions of ministers and generals; when Mars invades and stays in this constellation in the fifth month, ministers and generals will have worries; in the seventh month of that year, General Zhang He pursued Zhuge Liang and was killed by him (the original text says 'was spoken against by Liang,' the character 'speak' is likely a mistake). In the twelfth month, the Grand Commandant Hua Xun died. In the eighth year of Emperor Cheng of Jin's Xiankang era, in the sixth month, the planet Mars invaded the second star above the constellation Fangsu, and the divination text says: the secondary minister will have worries; by the second year of Jiayuan, General Yu Bing, who held the position of General of the Carriage and Governor of Jiangzhou, died, and at that time General He Chong was in charge of the government, and Yu Bing was in the position of the secondary minister.

郗萌曰：“熒惑入房，天子之宮，大臣有反者，天子之宮，大臣有反者，天子憂，期六月。”又曰：“有白衣之會。”又占曰：“熒惑入房，天下有喪。”又占曰：“熒惑入房三道，為天子有子。”石氏曰：“熒惑入房，馬貴；出房，馬賤。”郗萌曰：“熒惑出房北，主也；出其南，諸臣也；處之，憂甚；行，除憂，無故。”

Xi Meng said: The Malefic of violence enters the Room Mansion, the Room Mansion is the palace of the Son of Heaven, among the ministers there are those who plot rebellion, the Son of Heaven is anxious and fearful, the event will occur within six months. (The phrase "the palace of the Son of Heaven, among the ministers there are those who plot rebellion" is a duplicate in the original text, a result of transmission errors.) It also says: there will be a gathering for a mourning ceremony in plain clothes. Another divination says: the Malefic of violence enters the Room Mansion, the whole country will have mourning. Another divination says: the Malefic of violence enters the three passages of the Room Mansion (the southern passage, the central path, and the northern passage between the four stars of the Room Mansion), the Son of Heaven will have a son. The Shi school said: when the Malefic of violence enters the Room Mansion, horse prices will rise; when it leaves the Room Mansion, horse prices will fall. Xi Meng said: when the Malefic of violence comes out from the northern side of the Room Mansion, the event will concern the ruler; when it comes out from the southern side, the event will concern the ministers; if it stays without moving, the calamity will be severe; if it continues forward, the calamity will be removed, and everything will be safe and sound.

《海中占》曰：“熒惑行房南，旱；若守之，為喪；行房北，為水；若守之，為兵。”郗萌曰：“熒惑逆行房，失火；若地動。”《春秋演孔圖》曰：“堯恆視熒惑所在，在房；則改法蠲令。”（宋均曰：房為天子明堂，政教有門，故改法蠲令也。）

The Spring and Autumn Evolution of Kong Tu says: Emperor Yao often observed the position of the Malefic of violence; whenever it reached the Room mansion, he would change the laws and regulations and exempt burdensome policies. (Original book note: Song Jun said that the Room mansion is the Bright Hall of the Son of Heaven, where edicts and education enter and exit through the gate, so when the Malefic of violence approaches the Room mansion, the laws and regulations should be changed and burdensome policies should be exempted.)

又占曰：“熒惑磨心環房，不留正舍，往來彷徉，人主無下殿，遠宮闕，有伏兵。”《洛書》曰：“熒惑鉤已房，主命凶。”《玉曆》曰：“熒惑逆行房，成鉤已，大人憂，臣弒其君，凶；（郗萌曰：期不出六十日也。）下有反者，大兵起。”《文曜鉤》曰：“熒惑與房合，車馳人走。”（宋均曰：熒惑與房合，為諸侯所逐也。）

Another divination passage says: When the Malefic of violence approaches the Heart mansion and moves along it, and circles around the Room mansion, refusing to rest in its proper place, coming and going uncertainly, the ruler should not descend from the hall and should stay away from the palace gate and tower, because there are hidden soldiers on the road. The Luo Writing says: When the Malefic of violence forms the shape of 'hook and self' in the Room mansion, the ruler's life is in danger. The Jade Calendar says: When the Malefic of violence moves backward in the Room mansion to form the shape of 'hook and self', the person in high position will have worries, and ministers will kill their ruler, which is a great calamity; (Original note: Xi Meng said, the time of occurrence will not be beyond sixty days.) There are rebels below, and great armies will rise. The Wen Yao Gou says: When the Malefic of violence combines with the Room mansion, chariots and horses will rush, and people will scatter. (Original note: Song Jun said, when the Malefic of violence combines with the Room mansion, it is the omen of the Son of Heaven being driven away by the feudal lords.)

郗萌曰：“熒惑與太白合房，哭泣者多，堂空。”甘氏曰：“熒惑貫房中央，天下無兵；出房南，為男憂；出其北，女憂。”郗萌曰：“熒惑入房，留二十日，主出走；留十五日，主戰；近期三十日，遠三月。”石氏曰：“熒惑出中道，留也，天下有夷；期三月、四月；天下大赦。”《荊州占》曰：“熒惑出入房中道，良馬用，天下兵滿野，將相為盜，大臣有憂。”

Xi Meng said: The Malefic of violence and the planet Venus meet in the Room Mansion, there will be many people weeping, and the Bright Hall will be empty. Gan school said: The Malefic of violence passes through the center of the Room Mansion, there will be no military affairs in the world; if it comes out from the southern side of the Room Mansion, there will be worries about men; if it comes out from the northern side, there will be worries about women. Xi Meng said: When the Malefic of violence enters the Room Mansion and stays for twenty days, the ruler will flee; if it stays for fifteen days, there will be warfare; if it is near, the effect will be within thirty days; if it is far, the effect will be within three months. The Shi school said: When the Malefic of violence comes out from the middle of the Room Mansion and stays there, there will be a country being destroyed; the time of the event will be three to four months; afterwards, the whole world will be pardoned. The "Jingzhou Divination" said: When the Malefic of violence enters and exits from the middle of the Room Mansion, good horses will be conscripted, there will be armies filling the fields, generals and ministers will become bandits, and high officials will have worries.

《黃帝占》曰：“熒惑守房，十日不去，山崩。”又占曰：“熒惑守房，大臣為亂，王圍於野，天下作兵，五年而止。”石氏曰：“熒惑守房，天下更政。”《黃帝占》曰：“熒惑守房，有兵與喪；居之三月，其邦有殃；五月、受兵；十月、其野亡。”又占曰：“熒惑守房，貴人疾。又占曰：“熒惑守房三日、五日，天子車駕有驚。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Room mansion for ten days without leaving, it indicates mountain collapses and land depressions. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Room mansion, ministers will rebel, the king will be surrounded in the outskirts, and the whole world will raise armies, and it will take five years to calm down. The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Room mansion, the whole world will change its policies. The Yellow Emperor's Divination also says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Room mansion, there will be both military conflicts and mourning; if it stays at the Room mansion for three months, the state will suffer calamity; if it stays for five months, the state will suffer military disaster; if it stays for ten months, the territory will be destroyed. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Room mansion, the powerful will fall ill. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Room mansion for three or five days, the emperor's carriage will be startled—since the four stars of the Room mansion are likened to horses drawing a carriage, the disaster will fall upon the imperial carriage.

又占曰：“熒惑行房南，犯守之，為大旱；行北，犯守，為大水，在宋地。”又占曰：“熒惑守房，入之成鉤已，天子失宮，期六十日。”《春秋緯說題辭》曰：“房心木位，熒惑守之，燒弒；陽類相滅，子代位。”

Another divination statement says: When the Malefic of violence passes through the southern part of the Room mansion and invades and stays there, it indicates a great drought; when it passes through the northern part and invades and stays there, it indicates a great flood, and the calamity will occur in the territory of the State of Song. Another divination statement says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Room mansion, enters deeply into it, and forms the shape of 'hook and already', the emperor will lose his palace, and this will happen within sixty days. The "Spring Annals Weave · Explanation of Titles" says: The Room mansion and the Heart mansion belong to the position of Eastern Wood; when the Malefic of violence guards them, it signifies burning and usurpation; as both are yang elements that destroy each other, the son will replace the father as the ruler.

石氏曰：“熒惑守房，火近於木，子火滅其母，十日不去，國有喪；（郗萌曰有崩主。）十五日不去，兵大起；二十日不去，臣弒君，子殺父，（郗萌曰臣叛其君，子去其父也。）民去邦邑，陰陽相剋，天下大動；期不出一年。”

The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Room mansion, fire approaches wood; according to the Five Phases, wood generates fire, and fire is the son of wood. Now the son fire has extinguished the mother wood; if ten days pass without movement, there will be mourning in the country; (original note: Xi Meng says, there will be the death of a sovereign.) If fifteen days pass without movement, great military action will arise; if twenty days pass without movement, ministers will kill their sovereign, and sons will kill their fathers; (original note: Xi Meng says, this is the sign of ministers rebelling against their sovereign and sons separating from their fathers.) The people will abandon their cities, yin and yang will mutually overcome each other, and chaos will prevail throughout the land; the fulfillment of this omen will not be beyond one year.

石氏曰：“熒惑守房，為大飢，人相食，死者不葬。”又占曰：“熒惑守房，為良馬出廄。”又占曰：“熒惑守房左，絲絮貴；其守陰間星，將有喜。”郗萌曰：“熒惑逆而西行，守房十日，成鉤已，大臣弒其主，期不出六十日。”

The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Room mansion, it indicates a great famine, people eat people, and the dead cannot be buried. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Room mansion, it indicates good horses are taken out of the stables for conscription. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence waits at the left side of the Room mansion, the prices of silk, cotton, down, and brocade become expensive; when it waits at the 'Underworld' star (the two stars north of the Room mansion), generals will have joyful events. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence moves westwardretrograde, stays at the Room mansion for ten days, and forms the shape of 'hook and self', ministers will kill their sovereigns, and the event will occur within no more than sixty days.

石氏曰：“熒惑行不出房中央，其年有氐守房，王者惡之，天下更政、易王，若將反逆者，從近君起；以赦令解之。”甘氏曰：“熒惑守房，去復還，成鉤已，若環繞之，國有崩喪，戴麻天下，將大亂。諸侯起霸，天子失其宮，期六月。”巫咸曰：“熒惑守房，多水災。”《海中占》曰：“熒惑守房三日，鬼火夜行，人民大恐，多死喪。”

The Shi school says: The Malefic of violence always remains in the center of the Room mansion. In this year, there is also a star of the Root mansion guarding the Room mansion. This is most ominous for the ruler. The country will have to change its policies, replace the king, or have rebels rising up. The rebellion will start from those close to the ruler. A proclamation of amnesty should be issued to resolve this. The Gan school says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Room mansion, it departs and returns, forming the shape of a hook and a base, or circles around the Room mansion. There will be deaths and mourning in the country, and all people will wear mourning clothes. There will be great disorder. The feudal lords will rise to dominate, and the Son of Heaven will lose his palace. This will occur within six months. Wu Xian says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Room mansion, there will be much flooding. The Sea Divination says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Room mansion for three days, ghostly fires will wander at night, causing great panic among the people and many deaths.

郗萌曰：“熒惑以九月守房，車騎蓋野；斯後，年；父子盡給軍事，無得留家者。”又占曰：“熒惑守房，土功興；留三十日，地大動，大兵起。”又占曰：“熒惑守房、心，赦成；鉤已者，水成；已者火。”又占曰：“熒惑守房間，直心而留守房，天下大亂；東方大得；西方大失。”又占曰：“熒惑守房北，燕趙負殃；守中央，魯衛負殃。”又占曰：“熒惑守房，為胡兵發。”

Xi Meng said: The Malefic of violence stays in the Room mansion in September, with soldiers and chariots filling the sky and covering the fields; afterwards, this continues for many years, and father and son are both conscripted for military service, none remaining at home (the original text of the sentence 'This continues for years' has missing characters). Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Room mansion, construction projects begin; if it stays for thirty days, the earth will tremble and great armies will rise. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Room mansion and the Heart mansion, an amnesty decree can be issued; if it forms the shape of 'gou ji', it indicates water; if it forms only the shape of 'ji', it indicates fire. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence stays between the stars of the Room mansion, facing the Heart mansion, great chaos will occur in the world; the East will gain much, while the West will lose much. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence guards the northern side of the Room mansion, the states of Yan and Zhao will suffer calamity; when it guards the center, the states of Lu and Wei will suffer calamity. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Room mansion, it indicates the army of the Hu people will be mobilized.

《荊州占》曰：“熒惑守房，期一年，大臣盜國寶，大兵起於後宗，其芒角犯凌留三十日以上，大臣凶；一曰秦燕趙大凶。”《二十八宿山經注》曰：“房心星宿暗黑，熒惑守之，二百日止，則音聲，萬民相聲，大水、魚、鹽、五穀貴，百姓愁若。”

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When the Malefic of Violence is stationed at the Room Mansion, the event will occur within a year, with ministers stealing the state's treasures and great military forces arising from among the royal family's clans. If itspointed rays is sharp and it invades and presses upon the Room Mansion, staying for more than thirty days, ministers will suffer misfortune. Another view states that there will be great calamity in the states of Qin, Yan, and Zhao. The *Annotations on the Twenty-Eight Mansions and Mountains* says: When the light of the Room Mansion and the Heart Mansion becomes dark and black, and the Malefic of Violence is stationed there, remaining for two hundred days, there will be loud noises, the people will call out to one another, great floods will cause disaster, fish, salt, and the five grains will become expensive, and the common people will suffer hardship.

郗萌曰：“熒惑犯中，乘守房左驂左服，為君死，所中將誅；有中犯乘守房右驂右服，為夫人死，所中相誅。”又占曰：“熒惑留逆犯守乘凌房左右驂，主崩，臣有陰謀；逆往乘凌中道，天子失位而亡；順行乘凌中道，天下和平。”韓楊曰：“熒惑犯房、鉤鈐，王者憂。”

Xi Meng said: The Malefic of violence is directly in the middle, conflicting, overpowering, and guarding the left骖 and left服 of the Room Mansion. This indicates the death of the sovereign, and the general who is conflicted will be executed. If the Malefic of violence is directly in the middle, conflicting, overpowering, and guarding the right骖 and right服 of the Room Mansion, this indicates the death of the consort, and the prime minister who is conflicted will be executed. Another divination says: If the Malefic of violence stays, retrogrades, invades, guards, and overpowers the left and right骖 stars of the Room Mansion, the sovereign will die, and ministers will have conspiracies. If it retrogrades and comes to overpower the central path, the emperor will lose his position and die. If it proceeds normally and overpowers the central path, the world will be in peace. Han Yang said: If the Malefic of violence invades the Room Mansion and the Hook and Bell stars, the sovereign will have worries.

According to the annotations in the original text: The "Book of the Sui Dynasty, Records of Astronomy" states that in the third month of the third year of Emperor Mu of the Jin Dynasty's Shengping era, on the Yiyou day, the planet Mars moved retrograde and invaded the Hook and Bell stars. By the fifth year of the same era, when Emperor Mu died, a temple was established for him (the original text "five years Emperor Mu's temple" is missing the character "died"). The "Jinyang Spring" by Tan Daoluan (the original text "Li Daojing" is a miswriting for "Tan Daoluan") records that on the Jiashen day of the eleventh month in the nineteenth year of Emperor Xiaowu of the Jin Dynasty's Taoyuan era, the planet Mars invaded the Hook and Bell stars. On the Gengshen day of the ninth month in the twentieth year of Taoyuan, Emperor Xiaowu died. The "Book of the Sui Dynasty, Records of Astronomy" also records that on the Gengxu day of the eleventh month in the second year of Emperor Xiaowu of the Southern Song Dynasty's Daming era, the planet Mars invaded the Room Mansion and Hook and Bell stars. On the Renzi day, it invaded the Hook and Bell stars again. The divination text says: there will be military affairs. That year, the Northern Wei (called the "Suo Lu" by the Southern Dynasties) invaded Lixia, and the court sent the Feather Forest Army to attack and defeated them.

郗萌曰：“熒惑犯乘鉤鈐，大臣有誤天子，不尊事天者，致火災於宗廟；王者不宜出宮、下殿；有謀匿於宗廟中者。”石氏曰：“熒惑逆行至鉤鈐，天子侍臣俱亡。《春秋緯》曰：“出行不節，則熒惑守房、鉤鈐。劉向《洪範》曰：“鉤鈐，天子御也，熒惑守之，不大僕則奉車；不黜，則死。”（《洪範》曰：漢宣帝本始元年，熒惑守房，其後六年，奉東都尉霍山舉家謀反，誅滅。）郗萌曰：“熒惑過鉤鈐，大赦；若有德令。”

Xi Meng said: The Malefic of violence invades and occupies the Hook and Key stars (two small stars near the Room Mansion, like the lock and key of a door, which preside over the key to the emperor's chariot), this indicates ministers causing the emperor to err, failing to show reverence to heaven, leading to fire in the ancestral temple; the sovereign should not go out of the palace or descend from the throne; someone is hiding a conspiracy within the ancestral temple. The Shi school said: When the Malefic of violence moves backward to the Hook and Key stars, all the attendants of the emperor will die. The Spring and Autumn Writings say: If the sovereign's travels are not in accordance with propriety, the Malefic of violence will stay at the Room Mansion and Hook and Key stars. Liu Xiang's Transmission of the Five Phases of the Hong Fan says: The Hook and Key stars preside over the emperor's chariot affairs; when the Malefic of violence stays at them, either the Master of the Imperial Carriage or the Attendant of the Imperial Carriage will be involved; if these people are not dismissed, they will die. (Original note: The Hong Fan says, in the first year of Ben Shi of Emperor Xuandi of the Han dynasty, the Malefic of violence stayed at the Room Mansion; six years later, the Attendant of the Imperial Carriage Ho Shan's family plotted rebellion and was executed.) Xi Meng said: When the Malefic of violence passes over the Hook and Key stars, it signifies a great amnesty or an edict of benevolent governance.

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: The Malefic of violence invades the Heart mansion, and the warring side cannot win; the general fights and dies; another interpretation says the sovereign dies. The Heart mansion consists of three stars; the central star is the position of the heavenly king, the preceding star is the crown prince, and the following star is the庶son. The Malefic of violence is the star that governs war, mourning, disorder, and plague, so "Flame Star stays in the Heart mansion" has always been regarded as the most ominous celestial phenomenon, and the following interpretations mostly relate to the survival of the sovereign. The Sea in the Middle Divination says: The Malefic of violence invades the Heart mansion, and the emperor or king will lose his descendants; if it invades the preceding crown prince star, the crown prince cannot succeed to the throne; if it invades the following庶son star, the庶son will be disadvantageous. Another divination says: The Malefic of violence invades the Heart mansion, and certainly someone will die of starvation. Xi Meng says: The Malefic of violence invades the Heart mansion, and there will be a minister plotting rebellion; otherwise, the sovereign will die. The Literary Hooks of the Stars says: When the Malefic of violence enters between the two stars of the Heart mansion, close relatives will kill each other in the outskirts. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Heart mansion, there will be a rebel among the ministers, and the sovereign will be anxious, and this will occur within six months.

《黃帝占》曰：“熒惑經心，清明烈照，天下內奉，王帝必延年。”郗萌曰：“熒惑入角，道逆行，進退，欲留氐亢，因復少進，繞心與房，不留止舍，往來紡徉，可三十日。”又曰：“因以東西有憂；南北有喪。”《春秋演孔圖》曰：“熒惑在心，則縞素麻衣。”（宋均曰：熒惑在心，海內之殃，海內亡主，故素縞麻衣。）

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the Malefic of violence passes through the Heart mansion, its light is clear and bright, shining strongly, and all under heaven will come to pay homage and support the sovereign, and the emperor will certainly prolong his life and gain longevity—this is a rare auspicious omen in this text. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Horn mansion, it moves retrograde along the Yellow Path, advancing and retreating suddenly, as if intending to stay in the Root mansion and Neck mansion, then slightly advances again, circling around the Heart mansion and Room mansion, unwilling to rest calmly in its proper place, wandering back and forth for about thirty days. It also says: this will bring calamity to the east and west, and mourning in the north and south. The Spring and Autumn Annals: Commentary on the Image of Kong says: When the Malefic of violence stops in the Heart mansion, the whole world will wear white mourning clothes. (Original book note: Song Jun said, when the Malefic of violence is in the Heart mansion, it brings calamity to all four seas, and the realm will lose its sovereign, hence people will wear plain white hemp robes.)

Xi Meng said: When the Malefic of violence circles around the Heart mansion, or departs and then returns, there will be a great amnesty within two days. The Shi school said: When the Malefic of violence invades the Heart mansion, the minister of the region corresponding to that mansion will die. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence invades, covers, or invades the right star of the Heart mansion, the crown prince will have worries, or may not be established as the heir; another interpretation says even if he does not die, he will be dismissed and leave. The Luo Writing says: When the Malefic of violence is in the southern position of the Heart mansion, the country will have joy; when it is in the northern position, there will be worries. Xi Meng said: When the Malefic of violence enters the Heart mansion and stays for twenty days, the sovereign will be ill; if it stays for thirty days, the sovereign's illness will be severe, and the ministers will also be in the same situation. Chen Zhuo said: When the Malefic of violence stays in the Heart mansion, the attendants will rebel.

Sima Biao's "Continued Book of Han: Records of Astronomy" says: When the planet Venus and the Mars star are both in the Heart mansion, it indicates a major court assembly. The "Yellow Emperor's Divination" says: When the Mars star is stationed at the Heart mansion, if its color is blue, it presages mourning; if its color is bright red like burning, it presages warfare; if it is stationed east of the Heart mansion, the event will occur in Qi and Yue; if it is stationed west of the Heart mansion, the event will occur in Qin and Zheng; (original note: Gan school says, the area of Qin should be considered as central.) if it is stationed south of the Heart mansion, the event will occur in Jing and Song; if it is stationed north of the Heart mansion, the event will occur in Wei and Lu; (original note: Gan school says, it is Yan and Zhao.) if it is stationed in the center, the event will occur in Wei and Lu.

Xi Meng says: The Malefic of violence produces a sharppointed rays, like a sword blade, passing between the two stars of the Horn mansion, advancing and retreating without stopping, lingering near the Heart mansion, indicating hidden troops in array. The Gan school says: When the Malefic of violence passes through the Heart mansion, the people throughout the land will suffer from famine. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence contends with the Heart mansion (when the two stars approach closely and their lights intersect, it is called 'contention'), there will be sudden deaths throughout the land, and this will occur within three years. The Luo Writing says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion and forms the shape of 'gou ji', the royal decree cannot be carried out, which is a great calamity. The Spring Annals Wei says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion, there will be wailing throughout the four seas.

According to the notes in the original text: According to Ban Gu's Records of the Grand Historian: Heavenly Officials, in the twelfth year of Emperor Gao of Han, in spring, the planet Mars was stationed at the Heart Star; by April, Emperor Gao died. Wei Zhao explained that whenever a ruler has just died and is referred to as "Yan Jia" (a euphemism for death), it is due to the feelings of the ministers, who still regarded the imperial chariot as delayed in departing, rather than directly stating that the ruler had died. The Book of the Later Han: Records of the Heavenly Officials records that in the third month of the eighth year of Tai Kang of Emperor Wu of Jin, the planet Mars was stationed at the Heart Star; by the fourth month of Yong Xi Year One, Emperor Wu died. In the ninth month of Guang Xi Year One of Emperor Hui of Jin, the planet Mars was stationed at the Heart Star; by November, Emperor Hui died.

The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence is stationed at the Heart star, the great official in high position should change his decrees, and the sovereign will move from his palace. (Original commentary: According to the Records of the Grand Historian, the Song Duke Jinggong was on the throne when the Malefic of violence was stationed at the Heart star. The star official Ziwei said: The calamity should be upon the sovereign, but it can be transferred to the prime minister. Jinggong said: The prime minister is my vital organ, a man who governs the state with me. Ziwei said: It can be transferred to the common people. Jinggong said: If the common people die, to whom shall I be the sovereign? Ziwei said: It can be transferred to the harvest, causing famine. Jinggong said: If there is famine and the people are in hardship, who shall acknowledge me as the sovereign? Ziwei said: Although heaven is high, it can hear the voices below. The sovereign has spoken these three most virtuous words, heaven will surely bestow upon you three times. The Malefic of violence indeed moved three camps, one camp being seven stars, one star corresponding to one year, and Jinggong thus lived twenty-one more years.)

《海中占》曰：“火守心，色赤，有兵，臣謀其主；黑、主死；白，謀臣有賜爵者；青，大人有憂。”石氏曰：“熒惑守心，天子走，失位；入心，必見血；其國庫兵出，天下士半死，五月大旱，二十日不下，天子有令，有憂；布大貴。”《雒書雒罪級》曰：“熒惑守心，有必有逆臣起。”石氏曰：“熒惑守心時，王將軍為亂。”

The Sea in the Middle text says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion, if the star appears red and bright, there will be military conflicts, and ministers will plot against their sovereign; if the star appears dark black, the sovereign will die; if the star appears white, among the ministers who plot, some will be granted titles; if the star appears green, the superior person in power will have worries. The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion, the Son of Heaven will flee and lose his position; when the Malefic of violence deeply enters the Heart mansion, bloodshed will certainly occur; in that country, all the weapons in the military storehouse will be used out, half of the soldiers will die, there will be a great drought in May, the Malefic of violence will not descend for twenty days, the Son of Heaven will issue an edict, which will contain words of anxiety; the price of silk and cloth will rise greatly. The Luo Book of Crimes and Grades says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion, there will certainly be a rebellion by a minister. The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion, the royal general will rebel.

甘氏曰：“熒惑守心，大臣為變，謀其主，諸侯皆起。”又占曰：“熒惑守心，成鉤已及環繞之，天子失其宮，期六月。”巫咸曰：“熒惑守心，萬物不成，土功興；一曰歲水。”《海中占》曰：“熒惑守心，天下大吟，居之三月，有殃；五月，受兵；十月，其野亡。”石氏曰：“熒惑守心，成鉤已，期三月，大臣反；攻戰不將軍死。”

The Gan school says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Heart mansion, ministers will incite rebellion and plot against their sovereign, and the feudal princes will rise up in arms. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Heart mansion and forms the shape of 'hooked hand', or circles around the Heart mansion, the Son of Heaven will lose his palace, and this will occur within six months. The Wu Xian school says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Heart mansion, all things will not mature, and construction projects will be initiated; another interpretation says that there will be much rain that year. The "Sea in the Middle" divination says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Heart mansion, the people throughout the land will suffer and groan; if it stays at the Heart mansion for three months, there will be calamity; for five months, there will be military disaster; for ten months, the region corresponding to that mansion will be destroyed. The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Heart mansion and forms the shape of 'hooked hand', it will occur within three months, and ministers will rebel; once warfare ensues, generals will inevitably die (the character 'not' is possibly a later addition).

《海中占》曰：“熒惑守心，南為水，北為旱。”又占曰：“熒惑守心，民流亡。”郗萌曰：“熒惑守心，南有小男喪；守北，有小女喪。”又曰：“以十月守心北，不出其歲，國有大喪；以十月守心，期六十日，有辱主；一曰皆起兵。”又占曰：“熒惑守心，為侵陽；守心上下星，名倖臣；驂乘者有事。”

The Sea of the Sea divination text says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion, if it is in the southern position, it indicates water disaster; if it is in the northern position, it indicates drought. Another divination text says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion, the common people will be displaced and flee. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion in the southern position, there will be the death of young boys; when it guards the Heart mansion in the northern position, there will be the death of young girls. It also says: If in the tenth month the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion in the northern position, disaster will occur within the same year, and there will be great mourning in the country; if in the tenth month the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion, within sixty days, there will be disgrace to the sovereign; another interpretation says that both the northern and southern positions indicate military action. Another divination text says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion, it is an omen of violating the yang position; when the Malefic of violence guards the two stars above and below the Heart mansion, it indicates the favored minister; the person accompanying the sovereign in the carriage will have an accident.

《黃帝占》曰：“熒惑守心，大人惡之。”郗萌曰：“熒惑守心，有反者，從太子起；一曰九卿為害。”又曰：“大國兵四起，天子軍破。”又曰：“二十日，相死。”又曰：“守心，留十日，后死。”又曰：“守心三十日，有女喪。”郗萌曰；“熒惑守心房間，三十日地動。”又占曰：“熒惑守心，有反者，從宗家。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the Malefic of violence occupies the Heart mansion, it is most ominous for the high-ranking official in a superior position. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence occupies the Heart mansion, there will be rebels, and the rebellion will originate from the太子's house, because the star preceding the Heart mansion is the position of the太子, hence this interpretation; another interpretation says that the Nine Ministers will be harmed. It also says: A great state will have armies rising from all four directions, and the emperor's army will be defeated. It also says: If the Malefic of violence remains in the Heart mansion for twenty days, the chancellor will die. It also says: If the Malefic of violence stays in the Heart mansion for ten days, the empress will die. It also says: If the Malefic of violence remains in the Heart mansion for thirty days, there will be the death of a woman. Xi Meng also says: When the Malefic of violence is between the Heart mansion and the Room mansion, there will be an earthquake within thirty days. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence occupies the Heart mansion, there will be rebels, and the rebellion will originate from the royal family.

According to the original commentary: The "Book of the Later Han, Records of Astronomy" states that in the sixth month of the ninth year of Yuankang during the reign of Emperor Xian of Jin, the planet Mars occupied the Heart Star, and in the eighth month it entered the YuLin camp. In the following two years, Prince Sima Lun of the House of Zhao deposed Emperor Xian, and elevated him to the position of Taishang Huang. Soon afterwards, Princes Zi Qi, Chengdu and Hejian raised armies to attack Sima Lun. Sima Lun mobilized his entire army to resist, and the two sides faced each other for several months. The "Jingming Divination" says: When Mars occupies the Heart Star, the star appears dark, and if there is military action, it will surely result in defeat. Chen Zhuo says: When Mars occupies the Heart Star, the period of occurrence is thirty days, and a comet will appear in the sky over the capital, with its tail pointing to the southwest. The "Xuanming Divination" says: When Mars occupies the Heart Star, it indicates famine. 《春秋緯說題辭》曰：“熒惑守心，主死，天下大潰。”《黃帝占》曰：“熒惑逆行而西，守心二十日，大臣為亂。”（袁宏《漢紀》曰：安帝永初元年五月戊寅，熒惑逆行，守心，司空周章謀，誅鄧騭兄弟，廢太后，及上立平原王為帝，事發覺，自殺。）

The Spring Annals Commentary: "When the Malefic of violence guards the Heart mansion, the sovereign will die, and the whole world will follow with collapse like a broken tile." The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: "The Malefic of violence should normally move eastward, but now it moves westward, and stays for twenty days at the Heart mansion, indicating disorder among ministers." (Original book note: Yuan Hong's Later Han Chronicle records that in the first year of Yongchou of Emperor Huan of Han, on the fifth month's戊寅 day, the Malefic of violence moved westward and guarded the Heart mansion; under the same celestial phenomenon, the Minister of Works Zhou Zhang plotted to kill the eunuchs Deng Zhi and his brothers, and to depose the regent Dowager Deng and Emperor Huan, replacing him with Prince Pingyuan as emperor. The plot was uncovered, and Zhou Zhang committed suicide. This is a clear example of "disorder among ministers.")

石氏曰：“熒惑逆行守心，哭泣涔涔，主命惡之，國有大喪與兵，（案司馬彪《天文志》曰：孝靈中平三年四月，熒惑逆行守心，後三年，而靈帝崩。）國易政。”郗萌曰：“熒惑逆行守心，旱，失火。”陳卓曰：“熒惑逆而行心，地震。”《黃帝占》曰：“熒惑逆行守心，環繞成鉤己，皆為大人忌，期六月，以赦解之。”石氏曰：“熒惑逆行守心中央大星，有白衣之會。”

The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence moves retrograde and guards the Heart mansion, there will be continuous weeping and flowing tears. This omen is most dangerous for the sovereign's life. The country will experience great mourning and military conflicts. According to the notes in the original text: According to Sima Biao's "Continued Book of Han: Records of Celestial Phenomena," in the fourth month of the third year of the Zhongping era of Emperor Ling of Han, the Malefic of violence moved retrograde and guarded the Heart mansion; afterwards, in the next three years, Emperor Ling died. The country therefore changed its policies. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence moves retrograde and guards the Heart mansion, it indicates drought and fire disasters. Chen Zhuo says: When the Malefic of violence moves retrograde across the Heart mansion, it indicates an earthquake. The "Yellow Emperor's Divination" says: When the Malefic of violence moves retrograde and guards the Heart mansion, moving in a spiral forming the shape of 'gou ji', these are omens most feared by those in high positions. The predicted time is six months, and this can be mitigated by issuing an amnesty. The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence moves retrograde and stays near the central star of the Heart mansion, there will be gatherings of people wearing plain clothes for mourning.

巫咸曰：“熒惑犯乘守心明堂，大臣當之；在陽為燕，在陰為胡，一曰有火異。”郗萌曰：“熒惑中犯乘守心明常，為萬民備火，近期一年，中期三年，遠期九年；一曰旱。”又占曰：“熒惑中犯乘守庶子，女主勢行。”又占曰：“熒惑中犯乘守蝕心右星，為庶子有憂，若死。”

Wu Xian said: The Malefic of violence invades, dominates, and guards the Heart mansion Bright Hall (the central bright star of the Heart mansion is called the Bright Hall, which symbolizes the position of the heavenly king). Disaster and blame will fall upon the ministers; if it occurs in the yang position, it will affect Yan territory; if in the yin position, it will affect Hu territory; another interpretation suggests an unusual fire. Xi Meng said: The Malefic of violence directly invades, dominates, and guards the Heart mansion Bright Hall (the original text says 'ming chang', meaning 'Bright Hall'), all people should be on alert for fire disasters. The effect will be evident within one year, moderate within three years, and distant within nine years; another interpretation suggests a drought. Another divination says: The Malefic of violence directly invades, dominates, and guards the庶子星 (a star representing a庶子, a son of a concubine), the power of the female ruler will prevail in the court. Another divination says: The Malefic of violence directly invades, dominates, and guards and obscures the right star of the Heart mansion, the庶子 will have worries, even leading to death.

又占曰：“熒惑中犯乘守太子星，天心明堂星，有大喪。”又曰：“中國有小憂；一曰宋憂。”又曰：“中犯乘守太子星，天天大赦。”又占曰：“熒惑中犯乘守心明堂，成鉤已，為大人憂，近期十月，遠期三年，以赦令解之。”《海中占》曰：“熒惑留逆犯守乘凌心星，王者宮中亂，臣下有謀易立天子者，權在宗家得勢大臣。”

Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence is directly in the center, conflicting, overpowering, and guarding the Prince Star, as well as the Bright Hall Star of the Heart Mansion, there will be a great calamity. It also says: The central state will have minor troubles; another interpretation suggests it should be in the State of Song. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence is directly in the center, conflicting, overpowering, and guarding the Prince Star, there will be a great amnesty (the original text has a repetition of 'day'). Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence is directly in the center, conflicting, overpowering, and guarding the Heart Mansion and Bright Hall stars, forming the shape of 'gou ji', the person in high position will have worries. The trouble will be fulfilled within ten months, or three years if it is further away. An amnesty can be used to resolve it. The "Sea Divination" says: When the Malefic of violence stays, moves backward, invades, guards, and overpowers the Heart Mansion and other stars, there will be turmoil in the king's palace. Ministers will plot to replace the Son of Heaven. The great power will fall into the hands of the royal family and powerful ministers.

《文曜鉤》曰：“熒惑入尾三月，客兵聚。”郗萌曰：“熒惑入尾，宮中有讒諛之臣。”又占曰：“熒惑入尾箕，九州當之；甲乙日入，東方有咎，丙丁日入，南方有咎；戊已日入，中央有咎；庚辛日入，西方有咎；壬癸日入，北方有咎。”

The Wen Yao Gou says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Tail mansion, foreign troops gather outside. The Tail mansion has nine stars, which correspond to the residence of the imperial concubines, and also belong to the region of the燕 (Yan) state, so when the Malefic of violence invades the Tail mansion, it mostly relates to affairs concerning the palace and the concubines. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Tail mansion, there will be ministers in the palace who spread slander and flattery. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Tail and Winnowing Basket mansions, all the nine provinces will suffer its consequences; if it enters on a Jia or Yi day, there will be calamity in the East; if on Bing or Ding day, calamity in the South; if on Wu or Ji day, calamity in the Center; if on Geng or Xin day, calamity in the West; if on Ren or Gui day, calamity in the North—this is how the ten heavenly stems are matched with the five directions to determine where the effects will manifest.

《荊州占》曰：“熒惑入尾，縑帛貴，將相人民，離其城郭。”《東官侯》曰：“熒惑入尾，後宮不憂，後惡之；一曰倖臣亂宮。”郗萌曰：“熒惑逆行尾者，失火；一曰大水。”《荊州占》曰：“熒惑逆行尾，其君淫溢。”郗萌曰：“熒惑在尾，與辰星相近，天下牢開，大赦。”《文曜鉤》曰：“熒惑繞尾踟躕，則以妾為妻。”

The book Jingzhou Zhan says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Tail mansion, the price of fine silk and brocade will rise, and ministers and common people will all leave their cities. The book Dongguan Hou says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Tail mansion, the imperial harem will not be at peace, and the empress is most afraid of this omen; another interpretation says that favored court ministers will disrupt the palace. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence moves retrograde in the Tail mansion, there will be a fire; another interpretation says it signifies a great flood. The book Jingzhou Zhan says: When the Malefic of violence is retrograde in the Tail mansion, the king will indulge in excess and debauchery. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence is in the Tail mansion and close to the planet of water, the prisons will release prisoners and there will be a great amnesty. The book Wenyaogou says: When the Malefic of violence circles around the Tail mansion without moving forward, it signifies that a concubine will be elevated to the position of empress, and the order between the principal wife and concubines will be reversed.

《荊州占》曰：“熒惑入尾犯乘之，天有有戰兵。”《河圖》曰：“熒惑居尾陽，其國有喜；居陰，有憂。”《黃帝占》曰：“熒惑留尾箕，臣下淫亂。”郗萌曰：“熒惑舍司空三日，馬多死；一曰牛多死；一曰芻大貴。”齊伯曰：“熒惑出入留舍尾，其國且無人，兵雖起，不用；吉。其國繕城郭。”

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: The Malefic of violence enters the Tail mansion and invades and overpowers it, and there will be warfare and military calamity throughout the land. The *Yellow River Chart* says: When the Malefic of violence is in the yang position of the Tail mansion, the country will have joy; when it is in the yin position, there will be misfortune. The *Yellow Emperor's Divination* says: When the Malefic of violence stays in the Tail mansion and the Winnowing Basket mansion, ministers will be licentious. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence remains in the Star of the Minister of Works for three days, many horses will die; another account says many cattle will die; yet another says that fodder will be expensive. Qi Bo says: When the Malefic of violence enters, exits, stays, or remains in the Tail mansion, the country will have a sparse population, and although military actions may arise, they will not be used; this is actually a favorable omen. The country will repair its city walls for self-defense.

石氏曰：“熒惑守尾，歲多妖祥。”甘氏曰：“熒惑守尾，皇后恐。”又曰：“人民為變國、易政，兵始動。”巫咸曰：“熒惑守尾，天下大飢，人相食；一曰留十日，後忌。”巫咸曰：“熒惑守尾，下凌上，君弱臣強，奸臣賊子謀弒其主，人民多死喪。”又曰：“後宮干政。”又曰：“以十月守尾中央，六十日天下發兵，車騎行，守端三十日，發士卒。”

The Gan school says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Tail mansion, the queen will be afraid and uneasy. It also says: The people will rise up in rebellion, the state will change its policies, and military actions will begin. Wu Xian says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Tail mansion, the whole country will suffer a great famine, leading to people eating people. Another interpretation says that if it stays for ten days, the queen will be in danger. Wu Xian also says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Tail mansion, this indicates a lower position overpowering a higher one, the ruler is weak while the ministers are strong, and wicked ministers and villains plot to kill their sovereign. It also says: The palace women interfere in state affairs — the Tail mansion is the position of the concubines and queens, so calamities will repeatedly occur within the palace. It also says: If the Malefic of violence stays at the central part of the Tail mansion in the tenth month, there will be military movements within sixty days, with chariots and soldiers moving; if it stays at the end of the Tail mansion for thirty days, soldiers will be conscripted.

又占曰：“熒惑守尾，人君為憂，大臣作亂者，反逆從大將家起，期二十日。”郗萌曰：“熒惑守尾，天下稱兵。”又占曰：“熒惑守尾，二十日，宮中匿謀，嬪妾有讒後者；一曰滿二日，光明相及，為女主。”

Another divination passage says: When the Malefic of violence occupies the Tail mansion, the sovereign will be troubled, and there will be ministers who conspire against the state; rebellion will start from the households of high generals, and the calamity will occur within twenty days. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence occupies the Tail mansion, the whole country will raise armies to attack each other. Another divination passage says: When the Malefic of violence stays in the Tail mansion for twenty days, there is a hidden plot in the palace, and among the concubines and attendants there are those who slander and harm the empress; another view is that if the Malefic of violence stays for only two days and its light connects with that of the Tail mansion, the calamity will fall upon the female ruler.

《荊州占》曰：“熒惑守九江，赤地千里，人民浪亡，穀貴三倍，藥草再倍，布貴。臣有毒弒其君，大臣反守尾，宮中匿謀，後妾相妒，三公九卿奸，大將有反。”《玄冥占》曰：“熒惑守尾，後宮有相害者，期百二十日。”又曰：“熒惑守尾，舟船相望。”郗萌曰：“熒惑守尾、箕，九卿當之，期二十日。”

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When the Malefic of violence guards the nine rivers stars (the four stars beneath the Tail mansion, which preside over waterways and boats), there will be a thousand miles of scorched land where not even a blade of grass grows, and the people will scatter everywhere. Grain prices will rise threefold, medicinal herbs will double in price, and silk and cloth will also be expensive. Ministers will use poison to kill their sovereign, senior officials will take up positions in the Tail mansion, plots will be hidden within the palace, and the concubines and palace women will be jealous of each other. The Three Dukes and Nine Ministers will be dominated by wicked ministers, and generals will rebel. The *Xuanming Divination* says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Tail mansion, there will be people in the palace who harm each other, and this will occur within 120 days. It also says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Tail mansion, ships will come and go continuously. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Tail mansion and the Winnowing Basket mansion, calamity will fall upon the Nine Ministers, and this will occur within 20 days.

《春秋緯》曰：“熒惑逆行守尾，久者有兵起，車騎聚於道，大臣宮人為亂。國易政。”郗萌曰：“熒惑犯守尾，為女主夫人妃后惡之。”又占曰：“熒惑留逆犯守乘凌尾，皇后有以珠玉簪珥惑天子者，誣讒大起，后相貴臣誅，宮人出走，兵起宮門。”

The Spring and Autumn Annals of the Writings say: When the Malefic of violence moves retrograde and stays at the Tail mansion, there will be military actions, with troops and cavalry gathering on the roads, ministers and palace attendants conspiring together, and the state changing its policies. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence invades and stays at the Tail mansion, it is most ominous for the female sovereign, the queen, the concubines, and the empress. Another divination passage says: When the Malefic of violence stays, moves retrograde, invades, stays at, or overpowers the Tail mansion, there will be a woman in the imperial harem who uses jewels and ornaments to seduce the emperor, leading to widespread slander and false accusations. The empress, the prime minister, and prominent officials will be executed, palace attendants will flee, and weapons will be drawn within the palace gates.

《春秋緯》曰：“熒惑犯箕，女主、宮人有憂。”郗萌曰：“熒惑惑犯箕，天下國相擊，男不得耕，女不得織，牛馬大死。”《春秋緯》曰：“熒惑入箕，主失位。”又曰：“天下大亂，兵起。”（案《宋書天文志》曰：晉永康元年八月，熒惑入箕，明年趙王纂位，改元年，尋為大兵所滅。）

The Spring and Autumn Writings state: The Malefic of violence invades the Winnowing Basket mansion, causing worry for the female ruler and the palace attendants. The Winnowing Basket mansion consists of four stars shaped like a winnowing basket, which represents the palace of the concubines, and also governs speech and the winds from all directions. Therefore, when the Malefic of violence invades the Winnowing Basket mansion, it often results in slander and disputes concerning speech, as well as abnormal weather and storms. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence invades the Winnowing Basket mansion (the original text has the word 'fluorescent' repeated), all the states attack each other, men cannot till the fields, women cannot weave cloth, and large numbers of cattle and horses die. The Spring and Autumn Writings also state: When the Malefic of violence enters the Winnowing Basket mansion, the ruler loses his position. It also says: The whole country experiences great chaos and military conflicts arise. (Original commentary: According to the Records of the Song Dynasty's Astronomical Records, in the eighth month of the first year of Yongkang of Emperor Hui of the Jin Dynasty, the Malefic of violence entered the Winnowing Basket mansion; the next year, Prince Sima Lun usurped the throne and changed the era name, but was soon overthrown by the armies that rose against him.)

石氏曰：“熒惑入箕，箕中一星，民莫處其室；養者，星在箕南；旱在箕北；有年在箕踵者，歲熟。”巫咸曰：“熒惑入箕中，伺其出日而數之；期二十日，兵發；伺始入處之率，一日期十日，軍罷。”《荊州占》曰：“熒惑入箕，盜大起，多鬥死者，歲不熟。”又占曰：“熒惑入箕，后族有口舌事，期六月；入箕中，倉粟出。”

The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Winnowing Basket mansion, if it is considered merely as one star within the mansion, the people will be unable to dwell in their own houses. The one that presides over the gathering and rest is when the Malefic of violence is in the southern part of the Winnowing Basket mansion. The one that presides over drought is when it is in the northern part. The one that presides over a bountiful harvest is when it is in the 'Ji Zhong' (the bottom opposite the mouth of the Winnowing Basket mansion), at which time the five grains will mature. Wu Xian says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Winnowing Basket mansion, one should pay attention to the day it leaves and count the number of days. The appointed time is twenty days, when military actions are launched. Then, according to the initial position it entered, one should calculate, with each day of its entry equating to ten days of the appointed time, at which time the army will disperse. The Jingzhou Divination says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Winnowing Basket mansion, bandits will rise in great numbers, there will be many cases of fighting and death. The harvest will be poor. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Winnowing Basket mansion, the families of the maternal relatives will have disputes and quarrels, the appointed time is six months. If it enters deeply into the Winnowing Basket mansion, the granaries will have to release their stored grain.

石氏曰：“熒惑出箕，谷大貴，天下大旱，飢死。”郗萌曰：“熒惑出天梁，守箕，大赦。”又占曰：“熒惑逆行箕，失火，諸侯相謀。”《春秋圖》曰：“熒惑之箕，有小赦。”郗萌曰：“熒惑舍箕，用事者坐之。”又占曰：“熒惑舍司空，三十日，牛車大出，馬牛大死，芻大貴；又曰留守箕，後宮干政，若有憂；又曰臣下淫亂。”

The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence moves out of the Winnowing Basket mansion, grain prices rise sharply, there is a great drought throughout the land, and some people die of starvation. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence comes out from the Shelter star and longevity star and stays at the Winnowing Basket mansion, it indicates a great amnesty. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence moves backward in the Winnowing Basket mansion, it indicates fires, and the princes plot against each other. The "Spring and Autumn Diagram" says: When the Malefic of violence reaches the Winnowing Basket mansion, there will be a small-scale amnesty. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the Winnowing Basket mansion, the person in power will be punished for this. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence stays at the司空 star for thirty days, large numbers of ox carts are moved out, many horses and cattle die, and the price of fodder rises sharply; it also says that if it stays and guards the Winnowing Basket mansion, the imperial harem will interfere in government affairs, or there will be calamities; it also mentions that ministers will be corrupt and licentious.

又占曰：“熒惑出入留舍箕，天下有兵事，君臣屬騎相速，吏民相攻，其國失地二百里；又曰禾豆不成。”《黃帝占》曰：“熒惑守箕左，歲惡，天下勞。”又占曰：“熒惑守箕，燕王有疾；一曰內變。”《文曜鉤》曰：“熒惑守箕，主恐；又曰人民飢糟糠；又曰其國更市。”又占曰：“熒惑守箕，天下分離，臣子謀，咎在人主自恣。”

Another divination passage says: When the Malefic of violence is in the Winnowing Basket mansion, entering, staying, or resting there, there will be warfare in the world. The sovereign and ministers will each lead their cavalry and attract each other, leading to mutual attacks. Officials and common people will fight each other, and the country will lose land for two hundred li. It also says that grain and beans will not mature. The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the Malefic of violence guards the left side of the Winnowing Basket mansion, the harvest will be poor and the people will suffer hardship. Another divination passage says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Winnowing Basket mansion, the prince of Yan will fall ill; another interpretation says there will be a change within the palace. The Wen Yao Gou says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Winnowing Basket mansion, the sovereign will be afraid; it also says the people will be so hungry that they can only eat moldy rice and bran; it also says the country will have to change its marketplaces. Another divination passage says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Winnowing Basket mansion, the world will break apart, ministers will plot rebellion, and the root of the disaster lies in the sovereign's reckless behavior.

《孝經緯》曰：“熒惑守箕，多土功事，小旱；雨澤霜露不時，歲為中。”《荊州占》曰：“熒惑十月守箕，天下大赦；守箕前，其國惡；守後，糴貴三倍。”石氏曰：“熒惑守箕主惡。”《海中占》曰：“熒惑守箕，大旱。”《海中占》曰：“熒惑以十月守箕，名曰火入水，萬民飢死，穀價五倍，天下大赦。”

The Xiao Jing Wei says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Winnowing Basket mansion, there will be many earthworks and construction projects, with slight drought; rain, frost, dew and mist all occur out of season, and the harvest will be of medium quality. The Jingzhou Divination says: When the Malefic of violence is in October and guards the Winnowing Basket mansion, the whole country will be pardoned; those who guard the front part of the Winnowing Basket mansion will have calamity in their country; those who guard the back part will have grain prices rising threefold. The Shi school says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Winnowing Basket mansion, the sovereign will have misfortune. The Hai Zhong Divination says: When the Malefic of violence guards the Winnowing Basket mansion, it indicates a great drought. The Hai Zhong Divination also says: When the Malefic of violence is in October and guards the Winnowing Basket mansion, this is called 'Fire entering Water' —— October is the Month Builder of Hai, which belongs to Water, while the planet of fire, the Malefic of violence, invades it, resulting in conflict between water and fire —— the common people will starve and die, grain prices will rise fivefold, and the whole country will be pardoned afterwards.

郗萌曰：“熒惑守箕，貴臣亂其國，主有淫事；一曰攻急。”又占曰：“熒惑守箕，貴人多病死；一曰主恐；又曰地動；守三月，彗星出。”又占曰：“熒惑守箕，歲水。”又占曰：“熒惑守箕、若留止箕口中，兵起，有兵罷。”《荊州占》曰：“熒惑守箕，有大淫事，九卿當之，若狐狢有憂。”

Xi Meng said: The Malefic of violence stays in Ji, indicating a powerful minister who disturbs his country, and the ruler has licentious affairs; another interpretation says there will be urgent warfare. Another divination says: The Malefic of violence stays in Ji, indicating many high officials will suffer illness and death; another interpretation says the ruler will be fearful; it also says there will be an earthquake; after waiting for three months, a comet will appear. Another divination says: The Malefic of violence stays in Ji, indicating there will be much rain in the current year. Another divination says: The Malefic of violence stays in Ji, either remaining in the mouth of Ji or initiating military affairs, followed by a cessation of warfare. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: The Malefic of violence stays in Ji, indicating great licentious affairs, and calamity will fall upon the Nine Ministers; another interpretation says that tribes wearing northern fur clothing (a reference to northern border tribes) will have worries.

《黃帝占》曰：熒惑守箕中守之，天下兵起，吏民相攻，士卒半死，人民流亡，不居其鄉，其國失地。”巫咸曰：“熒惑守箕，去復還守之，貴臣有誅亂主者。國有土功之急，貴人多死，大水萬里，澤為海，橋樑不通。”郗萌曰：“熒惑入箕中，若守箕，宮中口舌之事；倉穀出，三月、六月。”又占曰：“熒惑守箕，去復還守之，天下飢，期不出三年中。”《荊州占》曰：“熒惑入箕守之，若犯乘箕，牛馬多疾，北夷來降。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the Malefic of violence occupies the Winnowing Basket mansion and stays within it, warfare will break out across the land, officials and common people will attack each other, half of the soldiers will die, the people will flee and be unable to live in their homeland, and the country will lose its territory. Wu Xian says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Winnowing Basket mansion and later returns to stay there, there will be a virtuous minister who will kill the rebellious ruler. Within the country, there will be urgent construction projects, many high-ranking people will die, great floods will spread for ten thousand miles, swamps will become the sea, and bridges will be impassable. Xi Meng says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Winnowing Basket mansion or stays within it, there will be disputes within the palace; grain stored in granaries should be distributed, and this should happen in the third and sixth months. Another divination says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Winnowing Basket mansion and later returns to stay there, there will be famine across the land, and this will occur within three years. The Jiangzhou Divination says: When the Malefic of violence enters the Winnowing Basket mansion and stays there, or invades and overwhelms it, cattle and horses will suffer many diseases, and the northern barbarians will come to submit.
