The original commentary states: According to Che Pin's "Qin Book," in the ninth year of Fu Jian's reign, in April, a guest star appeared in the Tail and Winnowing Basket mansions, measuring more than ten feet in length, with a shape resembling a comet but with a curved end. Some called it the "Chiyu Flag." It swept over the Well mansion, and did not dissipate from summer to winter. The Grand Astronomer Zhang Yi and Meng Guang submitted a report stating: The comet originated from the Tail and Winnowing Basket mansions, which are the territories corresponding to the state of Yan. However, it swept over the Well mansion, which corresponds to the state of Qin. The omen first appeared in Yan, but the calamity would manifest in Qin. The Eastern Hu Xianbei have long claimed descent from Yan. Now, the Mu Dan Wei and his sons and brothers have fled to the state and have not shown gratitude. They hold many official positions in the court and wield great power. They ride in chariots and horses, enjoying supreme honor and prestige, which surpasses all others. Therefore, they should be slightly restrained, and their leader should be removed. When a venomous snake stings the hand, a brave warrior would amputate his wrist to save himself. The celestial omen has already been shown; the fulfillment of the omen will not be in error. Fu Jian did not adopt this advice, and later the Mu Dan clan indeed established their rule in Yan.

Xi Meng's divination says: A sweeping star appears in the Well mansion, with a stem-like glow gradually extending upwards, the upper part turning white and the lower part turning red, resembling the tip of a spear or a blade, indicating military calamity, a phenomenon manifested by Tai Bai. Chen Zhuo says: A comet appears in the Well mansion, causing slander among the people, leading to the collapse of state affairs and great floods across the land. The constellation摄提 belongs to the Shi school and is part of the Middle Officials group, consisting of six stars arranged on either side of the Big Angle star. It governs the establishment of seasons and the correction of the calendar, symbolizing important ministers who assist the sovereign. The Shi school says: if a comet appears in摄提, there will be chaos throughout the country, the emperor will personally lead his troops to fight in the fields, and military disasters will originate from the palace, causing the sovereign to face troubles, with the prophecy coming true within two years. Xi Meng says: if a comet appears in摄提, it indicates the sovereign is confused and unclear, and the ministers and subordinates will rise up in rebellion.
A comet and a meteoric fireball approach the Big Horn star.
The Big Dipper is a large star located between the two stars of the Heavenly Steward, serving as the seat of the Heavenly Emperor, symbolizing the authority of the sovereign. Qi Bo said: when a comet appears near the Big Dipper, extending about six or seven zhang in length, great chaos will occur throughout the land, large-scale wars will break out, and the state will change its policies. The fulfillment of this omen will take three years, with the central period lasting five years, and the farthest period seven years. The original commentary notes: According to the "Hongfan Wuxing Zhuan," in the thirty-seventh year of Qin Shi Huang's reign, in May, a comet appeared near the Big Dipper, measuring seven chi in length, moving toward the Northeast into the Female Palace star. Another large star fought with it within the palace. By the time of March and May, the comet disappeared completely, and that large star also vanished. Qin Shi Huang died on the sixth month's Jia Wei day at Shaoqiu, and his coffin was carried southwest to Xianyang, after which calamity spread to his children and officials, with ministers and nine ministers dying by the sword. Chaos ensued, and heroes rose up to attack the Qin dynasty, leading to its downfall. It also says: in May, a comet appeared in the鹑首 (Chen Tou) constellation, lasting over fifteen days. In the tenth month of the third year of the Han dynasty, a comet appeared near the Big Dipper, disappearing after more than ten days. At that time, Xiang Ji was the King of Chu and dominated the feudal lords, yet the hearts of the feudal lords were turning toward the Han dynasty, and the Chu state was about to perish, so the comet was there to sweep away his position.
Xi Meng said: A comet appears entering and exiting near the Big Dipper, about seven or eight zhang long, indicating a change of government throughout the land. The "Gou Ming Jue" states: When the Son of Heaven loses benevolence, the comet remains near the Big Dipper. The Yellow Emperor said: When a comet attacks and remains near the Big Dipper, a great battle occurs, the country becomes unstable, the Son of Heaven loses his authority, and the state may perish, with changes in government. The "Luoshu Shuwei" states: When a comet crosses the Big Dipper, disorder will arise at the position of the imperial throne. The "Jingzhou Zhan" states: When a comet appears near the Big Dipper, the ruler will die.

The star cluster Genghe consists of three stars, located north of the Big Dipper's handle. It presages military actions by the Hu people and defense matters on the borders. The book "Sea Divination" states: if a comet or meteorite approaches Genghe, the emperor should be cautious about border defenses and beware of external disturbances affecting the Central Plains. Chen Zhuo says: if a comet or meteorite approaches Genghe, the northern army will suffer defeat. Wu Xian says: if a comet appears in Genghe, the armies of the four barbarian tribes will suffer defeat, and the Central Plains will face border troubles; if the comet remains stationed there, the king will lead an expedition against the four barbarians, and this prediction will be fulfilled within three years.

The star Zhaoyao appears north of Genghe, indicating matters related to the Hu people and military campaigns. Chen Zhuo said: when a comet or a meteorite conflicts with Zhaoyao, there will be a large-scale military mobilization on the border, and the verification period is one year. The Shi school said: if a comet appears at Zhaoyao, the Jutu will invade; if the star remains stationed at Zhaoyao, our side will win. The Yellow Emperor said: the sign of attacking the Hu people is when a comet appears at Zhaoyao. The original book's note: The "Book of Celestial Officials" says that before the Han army attacked Dayuan, a comet appeared at Zhaoyao. The Shi school said: if a comet remains at Zhaoyao, it is an attack on the northern ruler, and the verification period is within three years. Ban Gu's "Book of Celestial Phenomena" says: during Emperor Wu of Han's Taichu era, a comet appeared at Zhaoyao, and later the Han army attacked Dayuan, killing the king of Dayuan.

The comet appears in the north of Xuan Ge, indicating military affairs and warfare in the northern direction. Chen Zhuo said: If a comet or a meteorite conflicts with Xuan Ge, there will be warfare, and the Xun Yu will suffer a great defeat, which will be verified in two years. The "Jade Calendar" states: If a comet appears in Xuan Ge, warfare will arise in the north, the Xun Yu will suffer a great defeat, and his country will be destroyed, which will be verified in one year, at the furthest three years.

The Heavenly Sword and its three stars are located at the end of the handle of the Big Dipper, representing the celestial weapon of the sovereign. The Gan school says that if a comet appears in the Heavenly Sword, the king should be cautious of threats from the four directions and strengthen the defense along the borders; once there is alarm in the border regions, the common people will also become fearful. Chen Zhuo says that if a comet remains in the Heavenly Sword, there will be extensive use of axes and halberds, wrongful executions will occur, and many civilians will be beheaded and displayed as a warning.
A comet and a meteor invade the handle of the Big Dipper seven times.
The Heavenly Stem is called Tianbang, along with the five planets, located north of the Female Bed, representing another celestial symbol of the emperor's weapons. The "Shengqia Fufu" states: when a comet appears in Tianbang, a large-scale war will break out, all five types of weapons will be used, and the country will face calamity, with the prophecy coming true within two years. Chen Zhuo says: when a comet remains in Tianbang, wars will break out in all directions.

The Shi school says: if a comet or shooting star attacks the female bed, a nobleman will be suddenly executed, and the verification period is one hundred and eighty days. Qi Bo says: if a comet attacks the female bed, a nobleman will have worries, or someone will be suddenly executed; another view is that a woman of high status will be guilty of a crime, and the verification period is one hundred and eighty days, up to a maximum of one year.

Seven Public Stars, the Seven Stars, are located west of the Chain, symbolizing the positions of the Three Grand Ministers of the Son of Heaven. They preside over discussions of state affairs. The "Zhen Ya Du" states: if a comet appears among the Seven Public Stars, those who speak earnestly to the sovereign will meet misfortune, those who participate in deliberating state affairs will be imprisoned, the state's decrees will not be implemented, the sovereign will believe in slander, wicked ministers will stand by the side, and the country will suffer calamity and eventually perish.

This will come to pass within a hundred days, or at the furthest, within a year. The "Xiaojing Neji" states: when a comet stops in Tianyu, the feudal lords will incite chaos.
Xi Meng said: A comet appearing at "She Ti" indicates that the sovereign is confused and unable to discern right from wrong, leading the ministers and officials below to vie for power and start conflicts. The She Ti six stars are positioned on either side of the Big Dipper, originally serving as celestial officials to establish the seasons and regulate the directions. Now disturbed by the comet, this portends disorder in the court's governance and strife between superiors and subordinates.

The effects will be realized within three years, in the middle case within five years, and in the far case within seven years. The Big Dipper's handle is the seat of the heavenly king, so when comets or孛stars invade it, their direction indicates the ruler. (The following is a note from the original text: The "Hongan Fan Wu Xing Zhuan" records that in the 37th year of Qin Shihuang's reign, in May, a comet appeared near the Big Dipper's handle, stretching seven chi in length, moving toward the northeast into the "Nuyu" star. Another large star appeared in the palace and fought with it. By the time of March and May, the comet disappeared completely, and then that large star also vanished. Qin Shihuang died on the sixth month's day of Jiwei in Shaqiu, and his coffin was carried southwest to Xianyang. Subsequently, chaos spread to the various princes and princesses, and officials and the nine ministers died by the sword. The land was in great disorder, and armies rose up against the Qin, leading to the fall of the Qin dynasty. It also records that in May, a comet appeared in the "Chunshou" section, lasting for more than ten days. In the third year of Han Wang's reign, in October, a comet appeared near the Big Dipper's handle, disappearing after several days. At that time, Xiang Ji was the King of Chu and dominated the feudal lords, yet the various feudal lords and the hearts of the people all turned to the Han dynasty, and the state of Chu was about to fall, so this comet was sent to clear his throne.)
