The Kaiyuan Treatise on Astrology, Volume Seventy-Three

《黃帝占》曰：“流星入攝提，外國當以兵為使來者，若有急；流星出之，王者以兵出使，各以五色占。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: If a shooting star enters the Ceti star, foreign countries will send military envoys, or there may be urgent military news; if a shooting star flies out from Ceti, it signifies that the king will send military envoys on an expedition. All these should be further interpreted according to the five colors of the star to determine fortune or misfortune.

《黃帝占》曰：“流星抵破大角，兵大起，四塞有急，若刺大角過，王者失位；期三年。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: If a shooting star collides and breaks through the Big Dipper star, there will be a large military campaign with urgent military situations at all four borders; if it pierces directly through the Big Dipper and passes through it, the king will lose his throne; this omen occurs after three years. The Big Dipper is the star representing the emperor, so offending it is the most serious.

石氏曰：“流星抵大角，有兵起，大將出，人主憂；期百八十日。流星觸破大角，四兵合，有急。刺大角，主失位，裂之，尤甚。流星發大角，盛光明耀，大將出；破大角，亡；不吉。”

Shi Shen said: A shooting star colliding with the Big Dipper indicates the outbreak of military actions, the departure of a general, and the ruler's worries, and this will occur within 180 days. If a shooting star breaks through the Big Dipper, armies from all four directions will gather, and the situation will be urgent. If the shooting star directly pierces the Big Dipper, the ruler will lose his position; if it splits the Big Dipper, the disaster will be even worse. If a shooting star originates from the Big Dipper with bright and brilliant light, it signifies the departure of a general; but if it breaks through the Big Dipper, it indicates defeat, which is an inauspicious omen.

陳卓曰：“流星入梗河，王者誅夷國，不出三年。”《玉曆》曰：“流星入犯梗河，王者誅四夷，若邊兵起，一曰蠻王死，期一年，遠二年。”

Chen Zhuo said: A shooting star entering the Genghe star indicates that the king should exterminate the Yidi states, and this will happen within three years. The "Juyi" states that a shooting star flying into and invading the Genghe star indicates that the king should campaign against the four directions of the Yidi, or there will be military actions at the borders; another interpretation is that the king of the Mian people will die, and this will occur within a year, or up to two years.

《黃帝占》曰：“流星起招搖，其所向者，兵在焉；又曰賊寇大敗。”石氏曰：“流星入抵招搖，四夷兵來，邊兵大敗；若王敗，敵有憂，期一年。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: A shooting star emerging from the Zhayaostar indicates military conflict in the direction it points; it also signifies the great defeat of thieves and bandits. Shi Shen says: If a shooting star flies into and collides with Zhayaostar, armies from the four barbarian regions will invade, and the border troops will suffer a great defeat; if not our side is defeated, then the enemy will have calamity, and this will come to pass within a year.

《聖洽符》曰：“流星入抵玄戈，夷欲入中國，戰大敗，流星所抵，兵徙來，期不出二年。”

The Shengqia Fu says: If a meteor flies in and collides with the Xuan Ge star, the barbarians intend to invade the Central Plains, and the battle will result in a great defeat. The direction that the meteor collides with is where the troops will move from, and the event will occur within two years.

齊伯曰：“流星入天槍，外夷來侵，防戍有急者；邊境憂。”

Qi Bo said: A shooting star enters the Tian Qiang star, with foreign tribes from the夷狄 coming to invade, there is an urgent situation at the border defenses, and there is worry in the border areas. Tian Qiang is originally the star of heavenly weapons, so a shooting star entering it specifically indicates border alarms.

《甄曜度》曰：“流星入天棓，兵大起，五丈長，國有兵，王者憂，期二年。”陳卓曰：“流星入天棓，諸侯多訟地者，部分不均平也。出，四夷安。”

The Zhen Yaodu text says: If a shooting star enters the Tianbang star, there will be a large military campaign; if the star is five zhang long, there will be military affairs in the country and the king will have worries, and this will occur within two years. Chen Zhuo says: If a shooting star enters Tianbang, there will be many disputes among the feudal lords over land, caused by uneven boundary demarcations; if the shooting star flies out from Tianbang, then the four directions of the barbarians will be at peace.

《海中占》曰：“流星入女床，後宮有憂，貴女當有暴誅者；期百八十日。”

The "Sea Divination" says: A falling star entering the Female Bed star indicates that there will be troubles in the inner court, and among the noble women there will be sudden executions; the time of the event will be 180 days. The Female Bed star originally governs the positions of palace concubines, so the calamity will fall upon the women in the palace.

《玄冥》曰：“流星入七公，人主信讒佞，誅忠直諫者，凶人起兵，義人入獄，期一年。”石氏曰：“流星經七公，當有兵將出。”《文曜鉤》曰：“流星入抵七公，有兵起，大將出，一曰輔臣有誅，不出二年。”

The Xuanming Divination says: When a shooting star enters the Seven Officials stars, the sovereign will believe in slanderous words, execute loyal and courageous officials who dare to advise, wicked people will raise troops to rebel, and those who act righteously will be imprisoned. This omen will occur within a year. Shi Shen says: When a shooting star passes through the Seven Officials, there will be military campaigns led by generals. The Wenyaogou says: When a shooting star flies into and collides with the Seven Officials, military affairs will arise and a general will lead an expedition; another interpretation suggests that a minister assisting in government will be executed, and this will happen within two years.

巫咸曰：“流星入貫索，天下有獄事，多有死者，一曰臣有入獄者，期一年。”（案《異苑》曰：田鎮之夜，傍階墀走，忽值流星入貫索天獄也，舊傳若見此者，必致死兵，要應，拔頭仰瞻須星，出則無禍矣；鎮懼，潛語其婦，散髮屋上，兄霄起，見上有物，謂是怪鳥，引弓射之，應弦而墜，乃其弟也。）

Wu Xian said: A falling star entering the Guansuo constellation indicates that there will be lawsuits throughout the land, with many deaths. Another interpretation suggests that there will be officials imprisoned, and the event will occur within a year. The original commentary notes: The "Yi Yuan" records that Tian Zhenzhi was walking along the steps at night when suddenly a falling star entered the Guansuo constellation—Guansuo is the heavenly prison. It was traditionally believed that anyone who saw this celestial phenomenon would inevitably suffer from a violent death. To avert disaster, one should remove their headscarf and look up at the star until it flies away. Tian Zhenzhi was frightened and secretly told his wife about the incident. He then took off his hair and climbed onto the roof. His brother Tian Xiao got up and saw something on the roof, thinking it was a strange bird, so he drew his bow and shot at it. The arrow hit its mark, and what fell down was none other than his own brother.

陳卓曰：“流星入貫索中，女主死，若有兵。”又曰：“使星入天牢，有赦。”（案檀道鸞《晉陽秋》曰：孝武大元三年三月庚辰，夜流星大如三斗器，尾長三丈，從七公西行至招搖，須臾轉還，東行至貫索而沒，六月，苻堅遣其子丕等十萬餘人，五道寇襄陽，四年正月辛酉，大赦天下。）

Chen Zhuo said: A falling star entering the贯索 indicates the death of a woman or military affairs. He also said: The planet entering the Heavenly Prison indicates an amnesty. The original commentary says: Tan Daoluan's "Jinyang Spring" records that in the third year of Taoyuan of Emperor Xiaowu of the Jin dynasty, in March, on the night of Gengchen, there was a falling star as big as a three-dou vessel, with a tail three zhang long, flying west from the Seven Officials star to Zhayaohao, then turning back and flying east to Guansuo before disappearing. In that year, Fu Jie sent his son Fu Pi and others with more than ten thousand troops, advancing in five routes to attack Xiangyang. In the first month of the fourth year of Taoyuan, on the day of Xinyou, the court issued a general amnesty—this exactly matches the prediction of "the planet entering the Heavenly Prison indicates an amnesty."

《春秋緯》曰：“大流星赤黃，出貫索中者，怪獲死者，女子也。”石氏曰：“大奔星赤黃，出貫索中，其國貴女有死者。”《荊州占》曰：“流星絕連貫索，國城屠。”

The Spring and Autumn Writings say: A large shooting star appearing red-yellow, emerging from among the stars of the Heavenly Chain, indicates that a strange creature will be captured, and the one who dies will be a woman. Shi Shen says: A large rushing star of red-yellow color, emerging from among the stars of the Heavenly Chain, signifies that there will be the death of a noblewoman in that country. The Jingzhou Divination says: A meteor crossing horizontally and cutting through the stars of the Heavenly Chain indicates that the city of that country will be destroyed by massacre.

《黃帝占》曰：“流星入天紀，大臣為亂，兵起宮中，妃后有出者，期二年。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: A shooting star entering the Tianji star cluster indicates that ministers will rebel, military disasters will arise within the palace, and a queen or concubine will be banished. This will occur within two years. Here, Tianji refers to the constellation Guansuo, which is located in the area of the star cluster. It shares the same name but is in a different position from the Tianji mentioned earlier by the Gan school, which is located to the south of Waichu. They should not be confused.

石氏曰：“流星入織女，貴女有憂，若有白衣女來者；一曰后族當有出者，期不出百八十日，遠則一年。”司馬彪《天文志》曰：“孝明永平七年正月戊子，流星大如杯，從織女西行，照地；織女，天之貴女，流星出之，女王憂；其月癸卯，光烈皇后崩。”巫咸曰：“流星入織女，有使從諸侯所來者；出織女，有使之諸侯。”韓楊曰：“流星入織女，有白衣女子會；其出也，賊將出。”石氏曰：“流星入織女，有大水。”

Shi Shen said: A shooting star entering the Weaving Woman star indicates that a noblewoman will have worries, or a woman wearing white clothes will come; another interpretation is that someone from the imperial family's relatives will be sent away, and the time will not exceed one hundred and eighty days, or even a year.司马彪's "Continued Book of Han: Records of Astronomy" records that in the seventh year of Emperor Ming of Han's Yongping era, on the fifth day of the first lunar month, a shooting star as big as a cup appeared, flying westward from the Weaving Woman star, illuminating the ground. The Weaving Woman is a noblewoman in the heavens, and a shooting star coming from there indicates worries for the female ruler; on theGuimao day of the same month, the empress dowager Yin of Guanglie died. Wu Xian said: A shooting star entering the Weaving Woman star indicates envoys coming from the feudal states; if it flies out from the Weaving Woman star, envoys will go to the feudal states. Han Yang said: A shooting star entering the Weaving Woman star indicates a gathering of women wearing white clothes; if it flies out, then bandits will appear. Shi Shen said: A shooting star entering the Weaving Woman star indicates a great flood.

《黃帝占》曰：“流星出織女，有白衣會，為賊兵吏凶，淫內。”《宋書天文志》曰：“穆帝永和十年四月癸未，流星大如斗，色赤黃。出織女，沒造父，有聲如雷。占曰：‘燕齊有兵，民流。’昇平元年，慕容雋遂據臨潼，盡有幽並青冀之地，綠河諸將，漸奔散，河津隔絕矣。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: A meteor flying out from the Weaving Girl star indicates gatherings in mourning clothes, and is an omen of misfortune for both bandits and officials, also signifying disorder and immorality within the palace. The Records of the Song Dynasty, Volume on Astronomy, records that in the tenth year of Emperor Mu of the Jin Dynasty's Yonghe period, in the fourth month on the day of Guiwei, there was a large meteor as big as a basin, with a reddish-yellow color, flying out from the Weaving Girl star and disappearing into the star of Zhao Fu. The divination text says: There will be military conflicts in Yan and Qi regions, and the people will flee. By the first year of Shengping, Murong Juan occupied Lintong, taking control of Youzhou, Bingzhou, Qingzhou, and Jizhou, and the generals stationed along the Yellow River gradually fled and scattered, so the river crossings became cut off.

石氏曰：“流星入天市，色蒼白，萬物貴；赤，必大災，民多疾。”又云：“大臣有罪，戮於市者；若市吏有憂者。”巫咸曰：“流星入天市，亂度量，不平，執命者死。”郗萌曰：“流星入天市而出，死罪復生。”《玉曆》曰：“流星入天市，若有死罪，當戮入市而得免者；不出二年。”

Shi Shen said: A shooting star entering the Tian Shi Yuwan indicates that all things will become expensive if the star's color is pale and white; if the star's color is red, there will certainly be a great disaster, and many people will suffer from illness. He also said: This indicates that a high-ranking official will commit a crime and be executed in the market, or that officials in charge of market transactions will face troubles. Wu Xian said: A shooting star entering the Tian Shi indicates that the measures and weights used for trade will be unjust, and those in charge of government orders will die. Xi Meng said: If a shooting star enters the Tian Shi and then leaves, a person sentenced to death will still survive. The Jade Calendar says: If a shooting star enters the Tian Shi, and there is a person who should be executed in the market but is pardoned, then within two years this prediction will come true.

司馬彪《天文志》曰：“孝明永平元年四月丁酉，流星大如斗，起天市樓，西南行，光照地，流星為使天市，為外兵西南行，為西南夷；是時益州發兵擊姑復，蠻夷大牟替陵斬首，傳諸雒陽。”

In the "Astronomical Records" section of Sima Biao's "Continued Book of Han," it is recorded that in the first year of Emperor Ming of Han's Yongping era, on the fourth month, on the day of Dingyou, there appeared a large meteor that looked like a bucket. It originated from the star of the market building in the Heavenly Market Enclosure and flew toward the southwest, its light illuminating the ground. Meteors symbolize envoys, and the Heavenly Market represents foreign troops; since it flew toward the southwest, it indicated an event involving the southern barbarians. At that time, Yizhou sent troops to attack Gu Fu, and the chief leader of the southern barbarians, Da Mu Tieling, was beheaded. His head was sent to Luo Yang.

甘氏曰：“流星抵帝座，諸侯兵起，臣謀主；若貴人變更政，期年。”

Gan De said: A shooting star approaching the Emperor's Seat star indicates that princes will rise in rebellion, and ministers will plot against their sovereigns; or there will be a nobleman who arbitrarily changes the government orders, and this will occur within a year. The Emperor's Seat is the position of the heavenly emperor in the Heavenly Market Enclosure. A shooting star approaching it most significantly indicates overstepping between sovereign and minister.

《聖洽符》曰：“流星抵候星，有兵起，近臣相攻；夷狄內侵；王者有憂。”

The Shengqia Fu says: When a shooting star collides with the watching star, military actions will arise, the king's close ministers will attack each other; the barbarians will invade the interior; the king will have worries. The watching star is originally responsible for surveillance and observation; once it is violated, the vigilance both inside and outside will be lost.

齊伯曰：“流星入宦者，左右臣不寧，若有憂；一曰當有被黜者，期一年。”

Qi Bo said: A falling star entering the constellation of the Eunuchs indicates that the attendants close to the sovereign will not be at ease, or there will be some calamity. Another interpretation suggests that someone will be demoted, and this will occur within a year.

郗萌曰：“流星抵斗星，權量不平，市吏有憂；一曰五穀貴，斗不用事。”

Xi Meng said: A shooting star collides with the Dou star in the Tian Shi Yuan, indicating that the measuring instruments are not fair, and officials in charge of market transactions will have worries; another interpretation is that grain prices are high, making the measure of the dou and hu useless and ineffective.

《海中占》曰：“流星入宗正，左右貴臣多死，若帝宗后族有黜者，期百八十日，遠一年。”

The Sea Divination says: When a shooting star enters the Zongzheng star, there will be many deaths among the noble ministers close to the king, or there will be those of the royal family and the maternal relatives who are demoted. The time for this to occur is about one hundred and eighty days, or as long as a year.

《甄曜度》曰：“流星入宗人，親戚臣為亂，若宗中有變事，親戚離別，期不出年。”

The Zhen Yaodu says: When a shooting star enters the Zongren star, a minister who is a relative will cause chaos, or there will be a change within the clan, relatives will scatter apart, and the event will occur within a year.

《玄冥》曰：“流星抵宗星，王者宗族不相親，宗室相疑，以親為疏。”

The Xuanming Divination says: When a shooting star collides with the Zong Star, the kinship among the royal family will no longer be harmonious, and the members of the royal house will suspect each other. Those who are originally very close will instead treat each other as distant outsiders.

《黃帝占》曰：“流星入抵東咸，后出入不得時，淫泆自恣；一曰女主亂宮，王者憂；期一年，遠二年。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: A meteor flies in and collides with the Dongxian star, the queen enters and exits at inappropriate times, indulging in licentiousness and acting recklessly; another interpretation is that the female ruler disrupts the palace, and the king faces worries; the occurrence is expected within a year, or up to two years if it is more distant.

石氏曰：“流星入天江，有大水，河海溢，人民飢。”

Shi Shen said: A shooting star entering Tian Jiang Xing indicates a great flood, with rivers and seawater overflowing and overflowing, causing the people to suffer from famine. Tian Jiang is originally the master of water channels and bridges, so when it is disturbed, it specifically indicates water disasters.

《玉曆》曰：“流星入建星，關道不通，若有使來者；一曰兵起，四塞民多盜賊，不出三年。”陳卓曰：“流星入建星，天下謀亂，赤者昌。”

The Yulu says: A falling star entering the Constellation of Jian indicates blocked passageways or the arrival of envoys; another interpretation suggests military action, with many bandits emerging in the border regions, and this will not be resolved within three years. Chen Zhuo says: A falling star entering the Constellation of Jian indicates rebellion and disorder in the realm; if the star appears red, that region will instead become prosperous.

甘氏曰：“流星入天弁，糴大貴，人民飢；若抵犯之，有兵起，將士行，期二年。”

Gan De said: A shooting star entering the Tian Bian star indicates a sharp rise in the price of grain, leading to famine among the people; if it collides or invades this star, there will be military conflicts, soldiers going on campaigns, and this will occur within two years. Tian Bian is originally a star official in the Tian Shi Yuan constellation that governs market transactions, so when it is violated, the effect first manifests in the grain prices.

《海中占》曰：“流星入河鼓，有兵起，大將出；若抵之，有死將，隨其所犯將當之，期一年，遠二年；大星，為大將；小星，為小將。”郗萌曰：“使星入河鼓，大將亡其旗鼓。”石氏曰：“流星出河鼓，兵出；入河鼓，兵入。”又曰：“流星入河鼓，所入將驚死；出河鼓，所出將廢。”

The Sea of the Stars says: A falling star entering the River Drum star indicates the outbreak of military affairs and the departure of a general; if it collides with it, there will be the death of a general. According to which star it invades, the corresponding general will bear the consequence. The time of the event is usually one year, but may be as long as two years. A bright star indicates the main general, while a small star indicates the deputy general. Xi Meng says: The planet enters the River Drum, and the general will lose his flag and drum. Shi Shen says: A falling star flying out from the River Drum indicates the departure of troops; flying into the River Drum indicates the arrival of troops. He also says: A falling star flying into the River Drum causes the general at the place of entry to be frightened and die; a falling star flying out from the River Drum causes the general at the place of exit to be dismissed.

《宋書天文志》曰：“宋明帝太始二年六月巳卯，竟夜有流星百餘，西南行，有一大如甌，尾大餘黑色，從河鼓出，南行至尾沒，占曰：天下鼓出，其年四方反叛，內兵出，大帥親戎。”

The "Book of Song · Astronomical Records" states: In the second year of Taishi era of Emperor Ming of the Song dynasty, in June, on the day of Jimao, there was a whole night of over a hundred meteors flying toward the southwest. One of them was as big as a basin, with a thick and black tail, emerging from He Gu, flying southward until it disappeared in the Tail mansion. The divination text says: The whole country will have war drums sounding together. In this year, rebellions will occur in all directions, with military campaigns launched from the interior, and the commander-in-chief will personally lead the troops into battle.

《聖洽符》曰：“流星入離珠，兵宮中起，其宮人有罪及誅者。”

The Shengqia Fu says: A shooting star enters the Li Zhu star, and military disaster arises within the palace, with palace attendants being punished and executed. The Li Zhu star is originally in charge of the palace's jewels and ornaments, so the calamity falls upon the palace attendants.

齊伯曰：“流星入匏瓜，天下有憂，若有獻果者；中有藥，不可食，防備之，期百八十日。”《甄曜度》曰：“流星出匏瓜，食官有憂；一曰魚鹽價千倍。”

Qi Bo said: A falling star enters the Paojia star, there will be worries and troubles in the world, or someone may present fruits as a gift; the fruits contain poison and should not be eaten, precautions must be taken, the time of occurrence is one hundred and eighty days. The "Zhenyaodu" says: A falling star flies out from Paojia, the official in charge of food has worries; another interpretation says the price of fish and salt will increase a thousandfold.

《帝覽嬉》曰：“流星入漢中而不出，士卒不可以涉；星若絕漢，即可涉；三日內雨則不吉。”石氏曰：“流星入天津，必有大使，隨星所之，期一年。”《海中占》曰：“流星入天津，水道不通，梁塞若津渡有憂。”

The "Imperial Inspection of Enjoyment" says: If a meteor flies into the Milky Way and does not fly out again, soldiers should not cross the river by swimming; if a star crosses the Milky Way horizontally, it is possible to cross; if it rains within three days, it is inauspicious. Shi Shen says: If a meteor enters the Tianjin stars, there will certainly be an envoy traveling, and the direction the star moves will be verified, with the event occurring within a year. The "Sea Divination" says: If a meteor enters Tianjin, waterways will be blocked, bridges will be obstructed, or there will be troubles at ferry crossings.

石氏曰：“流星出北斗，人主使於諸侯。”郗萌曰：“流星入漢中不出，軍不可渡水，先渡者不還。”又曰：“使星入河津，有大眾行者。”《荊州占》曰：“流星入漢中，貴人有戮死者，若溺死。”

Shi Shen said: A shooting star flies out from the Big Dipper, the king should send envoys to the feudal lords. Xi Meng said: A shooting star flies into the Milky Way and does not come out, the army cannot cross the river, those who cross first will not return. Also said: The planet of envoys enters the river passage, there will be a large number of people going on a journey. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: A shooting star flies into the Milky Way, among the noblemen there will be some who are executed, or some who drown.

《玄冥》曰：“流星入螣蛇，雨水為害，魚鹽貴，水物不成，期不出年。”

The Xuanming Divination says: When a shooting star enters the Tengshe star, there will be floods causing disaster, the prices of fish and salt will rise sharply, and all things produced in water will not grow properly. The predicted outcome will occur within a year.

《文曜鉤》曰：“流星入王良，天下有急，關津不通；有兵起，及牛馬多死。”陳卓曰：“流星入王良，天下兵盡起。”

The Wen Yao Gou says: A shooting star entering the Wang Liang star indicates that there will be urgent matters throughout the world, with blockages at passes and crossings; military actions will arise, and there will be many deaths among cattle and horses. Chen Zhuo says: A shooting star entering Wang Liang means that the military forces of the whole world will be mobilized. Wang Liang is originally the minister skilled in driving chariots and the star governing chariots and cavalry, so when it is disturbed, it relates to military affairs.

巫咸曰：“流星入閣道，王者有憂，左右有謀，道中有伏兵，若道不通，期百十日，遠一年。”

Wu Xian said: A shooting star entering the Gedorang star portends that the king will have troubles, his ministers nearby have conspiracies in their hearts, and there are hidden troops on the roads, or the roads are blocked. The period for this to occur is one hundred and ten days, or as long as a year. Gedorang is the elevated path for the Son of Heaven to travel, so it specifically indicates the safety or danger of the royal journey.

《帝覽嬉》曰：“流星抵附路，太僕有憂，若馬多死，若馬大出，期二年。”

The "Imperial Inspection of Enjoyment" says: A meteor colliding with the star of the Road, the Master of Carriages will have calamity, either a large number of horses will die or a large number of horses will be mobilized, and this will occur within two years. The star of the Road is adjacent to the path of the Pavilion, and the Master of Carriages oversees carriages and horses, so the calamity will fall upon the horse affairs.

《黃帝占》曰：“流星入天將軍，大將出，士卒用；若抵犯之，將有憂；星所之，兵所來，期三年。”石氏曰：“流星入天將軍，大將驚出。”

The Huangdi Zhan says: If a shooting star enters the Heavenly General star, the general will be alarmed and mobilize troops; if it collides with it, the commander will face calamity; the direction the star flies toward is where the troops will attack, and this will occur within three years. Shi Shen says: If a shooting star enters the Heavenly General, the general will be alarmed and take action.

（案司馬彪《天文志》曰：孝和永元元年正月辛卯，有流星起參，長四丈，有光，色黃白。二月，流星起天棓，東北行，三丈，所滅色青白。壬申夜，有流星起太微東蕃，長三丈。

The original annotation states: Sima Biao's "Continued Book of Han: Records of Astronomy" records that in the first month of the first year of Emperor He of Han's Yongyuan era, on the day of Xinmao, a meteor appeared starting from the Three Stars mansion, was four zhang long, had light, and had a yellow and white color. In the second month, a meteor appeared starting from Tianbang, flew toward the northeast for three zhang, and when it faded, its color was blue and white. On the night of Renshen, a meteor appeared starting from the eastern fence of Taimei Enclosure, and was three zhang long. This annotation and the previous reference under the entry for the Three Stars mansion refer to the same event, and this part is repeated here; the text of the annotation is interrupted at the end of this section and the unfinished part is found in the next section.

三月丙辰，流星起天津。壬戍，有流星起天將軍，東北行。參為邊兵，天棓為兵，太微為天庭，天津為水，天將軍為兵，流星起之為兵。其六月，漢車騎將軍竇憲執金吾，耿康度遼，將軍鄧陟出朔方，並進，兵臨私渠北鞮海，斬虜首萬餘級，獲生口牛馬羊百萬差別，日逐王至西海，是歲七月，又雨水，漂人民也。）

On the third month's Bingchen day, there was a shooting star rising from the Tianjin star official; on the Renxu day, another shooting star rose from the Tianjiangjun star official and flew toward the northeast. According to the division of responsibilities in star divination: "Censhou" governs border garrisons, "Tianbang" governs weapons, "Taiwei" is the heavenly court, "Tianjin" governs waterways, and "Tianjiangjun" governs military affairs. Shooting stars originating from these places are omens of impending warfare. By June of that year, Han dynasty generals Dou Xian, Zhe Jinwu Geng Kang, and Du Liao General Deng Zhi led their armies out from Shuofang, advancing in several directions, and their forces reached the northern Tige Sea, killing over ten thousand enemy soldiers, capturing a large number of people, cattle, horses, and sheep, with varying numbers. The Dayu Wang retreated all the way to the western sea. In July of that year, there was heavy rain and flooding, which submerged the people's houses, dwellings, and fields.
