The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: If a comet appears in the east, there will be a prince who rises to become dominant among the feudal lords, or there will be military conflict and famine. The original commentary notes: According to Wei Zhao's "Dong Ji," in the third year of Yuan Shou of Emperor Wu of Han, in spring, a comet named Bo appeared in the east, and afterwards the Xiongnu invaded the two commanderies of You Beiping and Dingxiang, killing and plundering thousands of people. In the second year of Hou Yuan, in July, another comet Bo appeared in the east, and in the winter of that year the Xiongnu invaded Shuofang, killing and plundering the people. The original commentary notes: According to the Ancient Hongfan Astronomical Stars and Constellations Divination, in the thirteenth year of Duke Ai of Lu's reign, in the winter of the eleventh month, a comet named Bo appeared in the east. Afterwards, the state of Chu destroyed Chen, the Tian clan seized power in Qi, and the six ministers divided Jin. The Spring and Autumn Wai (Outer Commentary) says: A comet appears in the east, competing with the sun and moon for brightness; whenever it is seen throughout the east, representing the position of the Azure Dragon, or appears in the north, it signifies an omen of disaster for the Son of Heaven. The events may be great or small, each corresponding to the appropriate state. The Spring and Autumn Gan Jing Fu (Divine Response Symbol) says: A star named Bo appears in the east, indicating the struggle between yin and yang energies. Ministers will replace the sovereign, fighting with weapons and vying for power, leading to the replacement of dynasties, the prolonged vacancy of the imperial throne, and people harboringby chance (侥幸 means "侥幸" which is a term for taking chances or hoping for luck, but here it's better translated as "hope for fortune" or "expecting good fortune"). Commoners will rise to prominence, chaos will not subside, and the sovereign will be overthrown with continuous turmoil. This is an omen of excessive yin energy agitating and competing with yang energy for brightness.

In the first month of the second year of Zhengyuan, a comet of several dozen zhang in length appeared in the northwest, spanning the sky from the region corresponding to Wu and Chu. Wu Qiuan and Wen Qin were delighted, believing this to be an auspicious omen for themselves. They then fabricated an imperial edict from the太后, listing the crimes of the Grand General Sima Jingwang, and issued proclamations to all commanderies and states, leading the troops they had gathered to rebel in a large-scale uprising.

A comet appears during the day.

The *Comet Diagram* says: If a comet appears during the day, the land it shines upon will turn into a vast expanse of rivers and marshes. This is a sign that the yin and yang energies of heaven and earth are mixed and not distinct. A note in the original text says: According to Sun Sheng's *Jinyang Spring*, in the summer of the first year of Emperor Hui of Jin's Da'an era, a comet appeared during the day, but this did not correspond with the prophecy in this passage.

A comet appears near the sun.

The "Diagram of the Filial Piety" says: When a comet appears near the Sun, it indicates that the son wishes to kill the father. It also says: When four comet rays appear in the middle of the Sun, it signifies that the sovereign has virtue, the people are joyful, and thus the harvests are abundant. The Shi school says: When a comet remains near the Sun, it is a star attending to the essence of the Sun, indicating great chaos throughout the land, widespread warfare, ministers and kings each harboring their own schemes, and the emperor's death. This prediction did not come true within three years. The "Yulü" says: When a comet crosses the Sun, it indicates that ministers will kill the sovereign or sons will plot against their fathers; if the comet passes directly across the Sun's surface, the event will certainly occur, and the fulfillment will take place within a hundred days, at the furthest within a year.

The Sea Divination says: When a comet enters the moon, a large-scale war will break out, and a minister will want to kill his sovereign. There will be a great famine for twelve years. The Sea Divination also says: When a comet enters the moon, if the starlight disappears, a country will certainly perish within the same year; if the starlight reappears, the country that has perished can be restored.

The Yellow River Chart says: When a comet's tail obscures the moon, it indicates that a minister will kill his sovereign. The original commentary notes: According to the Strategies of the Warring States, Tang Ju told King Qin that when Zhuan Zhu killed King Lou of Wu, there was exactly the phenomenon of a comet obscuring the moon. The Gan school says: When a comet appears in front of the moon, there will certainly be a great battle, a general will die in battle, and a sovereign will lose his territory. This will come to pass within two years.

The Wenyao Gou says: A comet moves and covers the moon, brushing past the five planets and blocking their paths, indicating a large-scale war will break out, with definite combat, generals dying in battle, ministers seizing control of the government, expelling their sovereign, the king will be anxious about this, and the event will occur within three years. The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: A comet appears near the bright star and moves back and forth, about five or six zhang long, indicating the extensive use of weapons under the authority of metal and fire elements, leading to a great battle with much bloodshed and a change of government. This omen will be verified within three years, at the furthest five years. It signifies the outbreak of war, with the feudal lords all plotting together, and the emperor's death.

A comet appears in the eastern seven stars, specifically in five of them.

Angle Star and comet or meteor strike the Angle Star.

The Horn mansion is the first of the seven mansions of the Eastern Azure Dragon. Its corresponding region is the area of Zheng and Yanzhou. The Gan school says: if a comet or a孛 star appears between the two stars of the Horn mansion and has a white color, it indicates that armies will gather but not engage in battle, and there will be great mourning in the state. TheRoot mansion is the third of the Seven Stars of the Eastern Azure Dragon. According to the annotations in the original text, citing the "Celestial Officials" section of the "Book of Song," in the first year of Jingchou during the reign of Emperor Shao of Song, on the 5th day of the 10th lunar month, a comet appeared north of the Root mansion, with a tail three or four zhang long, pointing to the northwest, crossing the star of the Captive Ox, and directly pointing to the Big Angle star. The Shi school says that a meteor emerging from the House Mansion signifies that the virtue of the Son of Heaven is diminished, his actions are unjust, and the feudal lords will raise armies to defend their own states. The Gan school also states that a comet appearing in the House Mansion leads to large-scale warfare, imbalance of water and drought, many people dying of hunger, and people abandoning their homes and fields; another account suggests that cannibalism occurs, and this omen will be fulfilled within two years.

The Shi school says: A comet and a forked star conflict with the hook and bell star -- the hook and bell star is near the Room Mansion, and signifies the key to the palace gate -- indicating great disorder in the royal palace, and it will be verified within three years.
