The Gan school says: "Heavenly Dog" consists of seven stars, located to the northeast of the star Wolf. The Yuan Ming Bao says: Heavenly Dog is in charge of guarding against thieves. The Gan School's praise says: A wild dog barks at people, both male and female howl together. Shi Shen said: "Zi" has two stars, located to the east of the Zhangren star, symbolizing the generation of sons, closely adjacent to Zhangren, representing the meaning of sons serving their father by their side.

The Gan school says: "The star 'Sun' has two stars located to the east of the Zi star. The 'Gan Zan' states: an old man walks with a cane, with his son and grandson supporting him on both sides. The three groups of stars - the old man, the son, and the grandson - forming a straight line symbolize the transmission of generations and the filial care of descendants."
The star Tian She is used for divination and involves thirty-seven factors.
甘氏曰:“天社六星,在弧南。”(昔共工子曰勾龍,能平水土,其精為星,故祀以為社也。)郗萌曰:“天公社者,小人天公祠祀,非私所事也;所祠者,公社主也。”《甘氏贊》曰:“老人天社,理落禱祀。”
The Gan school says: "The Heavenly Society" consists of six stars, located to the south of the Hu Shi stars. The original commentary says: In ancient times, Gonggong's son was named Goulong, who was able to control water and soil, and his spirit ascended to become stars, so people established a society to worship him. Xi Meng says: What is called the Heavenly Public Society is the place where common people worship the Heavenly Public, and it is not something private individuals can worship on their own; what is worshipped is the master of the public society. The "Gan School Commentary" says: The old man star and the Heavenly Society star oversee the prayers and worship of villages and towns.
The Heavenly Mandate Star Divination, Volume 38
甘氏曰:“天紀一星,在外廚南。”(天紀,主知禽獸年齒,凡所烹宰,不殺孕,不夭幼,以致繁盛,故處外廚之門也。)《甘氏贊》曰:“紀別少齒,胎夭不屠。”
The Gan school says: "Tian Ji" is a single star located to the south of the outer kitchen. The original commentary notes that Tian Ji is responsible for discerning the age and teeth of animals. Whenever animals are slaughtered and cooked, pregnant females and young animals should not be killed, so that livestock may thrive and multiply. Therefore, it is placed at the entrance of the outer kitchen. The "Gan Shi Zan" says: Tian Ji distinguishes the old and young of livestock, and does not slaughter pregnant females or young animals.
Outer Kitchen Star Divination: 39
甘氏曰:“外廚六星,在柳南。”《甘氏贊》曰:“外廚烹淪,雞羊犬豬。”
The Gan school says: "The Outer Kitchen" consists of six stars, located to the south of the Willow Mansion. The "Gan School Commentary" says: The Outer Kitchen oversees cooking and boiling, and the preparation of chicken, sheep, dog, and pig meats. These stars govern the culinary affairs of the palace kitchens.
The star Tianmiao (Heavenly Temple) is used for divination and has forty interpretations.
甘氏曰:“天廟十四星,在張南。”(天子之祖廟也)《黃帝占》曰:“天廟星均明,則吉;微細,則凶。”又曰:“星非其故,有凶憂,若白衣之會。”又曰:“有兵,軍食不通。”
Gan De said: "The celestial temple consists of fourteen stars, located to the south of Zhang Xu." The original commentary notes: "This represents the ancestral temple of the Son of Heaven." The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the stars of the celestial temple shine evenly and brightly, it is a good omen; when their light is faint and dim, it is a bad omen. It also says: If the appearance of the stars changes from their usual form, there will be danger or calamity, or there may be a "white-cloth gathering," which refers to a funeral gathering where people wear mourning clothes. It also says: There will be military conflicts, and the supply lines of the army will be cut off.
郗萌曰:“天廟星大,色黃潤,則吉;蒼白為憂;青黑,憂在宮中。”《荊州占》曰:“天廟星非其故,有廟殘之事,吏不去則死。”《甘氏贊》曰:“天廟祭祀,示民不怠。”
Xi Meng said: If the heavenly temple star is large, with a yellow and moist color, it is auspicious; if it appears pale blue-white, it indicates calamity; if it appears dark blue-black, the calamity will occur within the palace. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: If the heavenly temple star changes from its original form, there will be destruction of ancestral temples, and officials in charge who do not resign will die. The "Gan School Commentary" says: The heavenly temple star governs ancestral temple worship, used to demonstrate to the people that honoring ancestors must not be neglected.
The Eastern Ou Star Divination consists of forty-one sections.
甘氏曰:“東甌五星,在翼南。”(東甌,東越也,今永嘉之永寧縣是也。謂東甌星,無主此地也。)《甘氏贊》曰:“康居穿骨,越裳東甌。”
The Gan school says: "Dong Ou" consists of five stars, located to the south of the Wings mansion. The original commentary notes: Dong Ou is the same as Dong Yue, which is now the area of Yongjia Prefecture's Yongning County; however, although it is called Dong Ou stars, they do not solely govern this region (this sentence in the commentary seems to have some errors or omissions). The "Gan School Commentary" says: Kangju, Chuan Gu, Yue Chang, and Dong Ou—these are all names of distant countries in the four directions, all governed by this group of stars.
The Star Divination of the Celestial Repository consists of forty-two sections.
甘氏曰:“器府三十二星,在軫南。”(器府,樂器之府。)《甘氏贊》曰:“器府掌故,管絃絲竹。”
The Gan school says: "The Office of Instruments" consists of thirty-two stars, located south of the Chariot mansion. The original commentary notes that the Office of Instruments is the celestial repository for musical instruments. The "Gan School Eulogy" says: The Office of Instruments oversees ancient regulations and traditions, and stores all kinds of musical instruments such as pipes, strings, and bamboo, and it is a celestial official in charge of musical instruments used in rituals.
Wu Xian, the outer official, is located outside the palace.
The Great Supreme Star Divination One
巫咸曰:“太尊一星,在中臺北。”《巫咸贊》曰:“太尊一星,職比聖人。”
Wu Xian said: "Tai Zun" is a single star located to the north of the Middle Platform. The "Wu Xian Zan" states that the star Tai Zun holds a position comparable to that of a sage, and is the most esteemed celestial official in the heavens, governing the most prominent member of the royal family and noble relatives.
The Three Grand Ministers stars are used for divination.
巫咸曰:“三公在北斗魁第一星西。”《黃帝占》曰:“三公一星去,天下危;一星去;天下亂,三星去,天下不治。”《巫咸贊》曰:“三公星,七政齊同;三公,猶今三公也;和陰陽,齊七政也。”
Wu Xian said: "The Three Grand Ministers" are located west of the first star in the Big Dipper's handle. The "Yellow Emperor's Divination" states that if one star of the Three Grand Ministers is missing, the world will be in peril; if two stars are missing, the world will be in great disorder; if all three stars are absent, the world will be ungovernable (the original text uses "one star goes" in both instances, the second instance should be a mistake for "two stars go"). The "Wu Xian Eulogy" says: when the Three Grand Ministers' stars are in position, the sun and moon and the five planets, the "seven officials," will move in harmony; here, the Three Grand Ministers are analogous to the current court's Three Grand Ministers, whose duty is to harmonize yin and yang and regulate the seven officials.
Dali Star Divination Three
巫咸曰:“大理二星,在紫宮門左星內;大理者,平獄之官也。”《巫咸贊》曰:“大理奏事,南門左陬。”
Wu Xian said: "The star named Da Li has two stars, located inside the left pivot star of the gate of the Purple Micro Palace; Da Li is an official responsible for adjudicating and deciding legal cases. The 'Wu Xian Zan' says: Da Li reports case details to the emperor, and its position is in the corner to the left of the southern gate of the Purple Palace. These two stars specifically govern whether the judgment of criminal cases is fair."
The Female Attendant Star Divination: Four
巫咸曰:“女御四星,在鉤陣星後北,女御,為八十一御妻之象也。”《巫咸贊》曰:“女御禮儀,威容步趨。”
Wu Xian said: "The female officials consist of four stars, located behind the Hook Chen stars to the north; the female officials symbolize the eighty-one palace concubines of the Zhou dynasty. The 'Wu Xian Zan' states that the female officials oversee the rituals of the palace, emphasizing proper appearance and dignified behavior, with movements and steps conforming to established norms. This group of stars is used to predict the order and rituals of the palace concubines."
The Seal star and star of livelihood are associated with the five elements.
巫咸曰:“天相三星,在七星大星北。”石氏曰:“天相者,天丞相也,主服彩色文章。”《巫咸贊》曰:“天相爵服,彩色顯光。”
Wu Xian said: "The Tian Xiang stars consist of three stars, located to the north of the large star in the Seven Star mansion." Shi Shen said: Tian Xiang is the celestial chancellor, in charge of the ceremonial robes with colored patterns. The "Wu Xian Zan" said: Tian Xiang governs rank and ceremonial attire, with brilliant five-color patterns shining brightly. Therefore, this group of stars is associated with both the ministers of assistance and matters concerning the rank and ceremonial garments.
The Star of Changyuan is used for divination in six aspects.
巫咸曰:“長坦四星,在少微西,南北列。”郗萌曰:“長垣在七星北,南星亦在太微西六七尺。”《合誠圖》曰:“長垣主界域。”《巫咸贊》曰:“長垣四星,在城邑相包。”
Wu Xian said: "Chang Yuan" consists of four stars (the original text writes "Chang Tan," which is a homonym error for "Chang Yuan"), located to the west of the Shao Wei stars, arranged in a line from north to south. Xi Meng said: Chang Yuan is located to the north of the Seven Star Mansions, and the southernmost star of it is six or seven feet west of the Tai Wei Mansion. The astronomical text "He Cheng Tu" says: Chang Yuan governs boundaries and regions. "Wu Xian Zan" says: these four stars of Chang Yuan resemble a wall surrounding the city and its territory.
The star of the tiger and the fierce warrior is associated with seven.
巫咸曰:“虎賁一星,在下臺南。”(虎賁士,以虎皮為冠,示威猛也。)《巫咸贊》曰:“虎賁四騎,室旄頭。”
Wu Xian said: "Hu Ben" consists of only one star, located to the south of the lower platform. The original commentary notes that Hu Ben warriors wear hats made of tiger skins, to display their ferocity. The "Wu Xian Zan" says: Hu Ben is accompanied by four horses, corresponding with Ying Shi and Mao Tou (Hairy Head mansion) — this sentence has some missing characters. This star governs the guards and military equipment around the Son of Heaven.
Military Gate Star Divination of the Eight Trigrams
巫咸曰:“軍門二星,在青丘西;天子六軍之門也。”《荊州占》曰:“軍門非其故,軍道不通。”《巫咸贊》曰:“軍門營候,虎尾威旗。”
Wu Xian said: "The 'military gate' stars are two in number, located to the west of Qingqiu. They are the gateways for the Son of Heaven's six armies to enter and exit. The Zhongjiao Zhan says: If the military gate stars change from their original appearance, the path of the army's march will be blocked. The Wu Xian Zan says: The military gate is the gateway for the military camps to observe and guard. A tiger-tail flag and a military flag of majesty are raised above the gate. These two stars specifically govern the gates of the military camps and the routes for military campaigns."
The star of the Earth Official is divided into nine categories.
巫咸曰:“土司空四星,在軍門南。”《合誠圖》曰:“土司空,主土城。”石氏曰:“土司空四星,近青丘;司空,水土司察者;星黃潤,則吉。”《巫咸贊》曰:“土司空,主界域,族神,土糞。”
Wu Xian said: "The four stars of Tu Sikuang are located to the south of the military gate. The He Cheng Tu says: Tu Sikuang oversees earthworks and city walls. Shi Shen said: The four stars of Tu Sikuang are near Qingqiu; Sikuang is an official who inspects water and soil affairs; when the stars are yellow and moist, it is a good omen. The Wu Xian Zan says: Tu Sikuang oversees borders, state shrines, clan gods, and agricultural and manual affairs such as soil and manure."
Yang Men Star Divination Ten
巫咸曰:“陽門二星,在庫樓東北。”《巫咸贊》曰:“陽門戍遠,劍戟楯矛。”
Wu Xian said: "The Yang Gate" consists of two stars located to the northeast of Kulu. The "Wu Xian Zan" says that the Yang Gate guards the distant borders, equipped with weapons such as swords, spears, shields, and lances. These two stars preside over the military defenses and fortifications of the border posts.
The star of the dull stone is used for divination in eleven sections.
巫咸曰:“頓頑二星,在折威東南;頓頑,亦獄官也;所以與折威相近。”《巫咸贊》曰:“頓頑捕制,察伺獄囚。”
Wu Xian said: "Dunwen" consists of two stars located to the southeast of Zhewei star; Dunwen is also an official in charge of prisons, so its position is close to Zhewei star. The "Wu Xian Zan" says: Dunwen is responsible for capturing and subduing criminals, and watching over and guarding prisoners in the jail. Zhewei governs execution, while Dunwen governs imprisonment; the two are one for killing and one for confinement, both belonging to the stars of punishment and justice.
From the official star to occupy the twelve divisions
巫咸曰:“從官二星,在房星南。”《巫咸贊》曰:“從官二星,主疾病醫。”
Wu Xian said: "From官" consists of two stars, located to the south of the Room mansion. The "Wu Xian Zan" says that these two stars of From官 govern matters of disease and medicine, equivalent to the physicians attending the king in heaven. They are used to observe epidemics and the success or failure of treatment.
The Heavenly Radiance Star Divination consists of thirteen sections.
巫咸曰:“天輻二星,在房,距西星;天輻,宰乘興之官也。”《元命苞》曰:“天輻,主言祠事,氣有離合,設禱謝。”(宋均曰:離星相遠也;合星相近。)焦延壽曰:“天輻近尾,吉;遠尾,天下有為害者。”《巫咸贊》曰:“天輻陳駕,被軒鸞旗。”
Wu Xian said: "Tian Fu" consists of two stars within the Fang Xu mansion, with the western one serving as the reference star for measuring direction; Tian Fu is the official in charge of the king's carriage ("cheng xing" should be "cheng yu"). The commentary in the纬书 "Yuan Meng Bao" says: Tian Fu governs the words used in worship and prayers, and the star phenomena have distinctions between separation and convergence, based on which sacrifices and prayers are made. The original text's marginal note cites Song Jun, saying: the term "li" refers to stars being relatively far apart; the term "he" refers to stars being close to each other. Jiao Yanshou said: when Tian Fu is near the Wei Xu mansion, it is auspicious; when it is far from the Wei Xu mansion, there will be people causing disturbances and harm in the country. The "Wu Xian Zan" says: Tian Fu arranges the royal carriage, adorned with the轩 car and鸾 flags.
The star of the key and lock (Jian Bi Xing) is used in divination and is associated with the number fourteen.
巫咸曰:“鍵閉一星,在房東北;鍵閉主鑰,關門之官。”(《天官書》:鈐北一星,牽前。《天文志》曰:常也。)《荊州占》曰:“鍵閉星明,則道大昌;不明,則闇亂,宮門不禁,津樑隔絕。”《巫咸贊》曰:“鍵閉司察,心腹口喉。”
Wu Xian said: "The star Jian Bi" consists of only one star, located in the Northeast of Fang Xu; Jian Bi is in charge of keys, and is the official responsible for closing and locking doors. The original book's marginal note says: The "Records of the Grand Historian: Celestial Officials" mentions a star north of the Qian star, which is connected in front; the "Book of Han: Records of Astronomy" says this is the normal state—here the marginal note has some missing text. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the Jian Bi star is bright, roads are greatly smooth; if it is dim, then there is darkness and confusion, palace gates are neglected in security, and ferry crossings and bridges are cut off. The "Wu Xian Commentary" says: Jian Bi is responsible for inspecting entry and exit, like the heart and mouth of a person, which are the most critical points.

巫咸曰:“罰三星,在東咸西,南北列。”《巫咸贊》曰:“罰星受金,罰贖市租。”
Wu Xian said: "The star Punishment consists of three stars, located to the west of Dongxian, arranged in a line from north to south. The 'Wu Xian Zan' says: The Punishment star receives money, governing the collection of fines for redemption and market taxes. This group of stars governs whether the punishment for redemption and the collection of taxes are appropriate."

巫咸曰:“列肆二星,在天市中斛西北;列肆,列店也。販鬻金玉珠珍,故在市南。”《巫咸贊》曰:“列肆貨販,金玉璣珠。”
Wu Xian said: "Lie Si" are two stars located to the northwest of the "Hu" star in the Heavenly Market Enclosure. Lie Si refers to a row of shops, selling precious items such as gold, jade, jewels, and pearls, hence they are situated to the south of the market. The "Wu Xian Zan" states that Lie Si engages in trade of goods, dealing in treasures such as gold, jade,玑, and pearls.
The Seventeenth Divination of the Star of the Carriage Market
巫咸曰:“車肆二星,在天市門左星內。”《巫咸贊》曰:“車肆二星,百賈肆區;車肆者,列車服之賈,百品隨類區別也。”
Wu Xian said: "The two stars called Che Si are located inside the left pivot star of the Tian Shi Yuan gate. The "Wu Xian Zan" says: The two stars of Che Si represent the markets where merchants divide their stalls; the term Che Si refers to shops that display vehicles and articles for use. All kinds of goods are arranged in separate sections according to their categories."
The text of the "Eighteen Star Divination by Silk Cloth Measurement" is as follows:
帛度二星,在宗星東北。《巫咸贊》曰:“帛度賣習,與平者俱。”
"The帛度" consists of two stars located to the northeast of the Zong Star. The "Wu Xian Zan" states: "The帛度 governs the trade and measurement of silk and cloth, and works together with officials in charge of regulating market prices. These two stars indicate whether the measurement of silk and cloth and the market prices are fair."
Divination by the star of the slaughterhouse involves nineteen methods.
巫咸曰:“屠肆二星,在帛度北。”《巫咸贊》曰:“屠肆烹煞盛饌,賓娛樓星,監市斗,食毒夫。”(屠宰之肆,以供侍賓客相娛樂。)
Wu Xian said: "The two stars called Tu Si are located to the north of Bo Du. The "Wu Xian Zan" says: Tu Si slaughters and cooks, prepares abundant delicacies, provides feasts for guests to enjoy and have fun, with the Lou Star beside it, as well as the Dou Star which oversees market transactions, and a person who tastes food for the king and identifies poisons—these words in the praise are somewhat corrupted. The original book's marginal note says: Tu Si refers to a slaughterhouse, used to supply and entertain guests."
The Twenty Divination Texts of Xi Zhong on Stars
巫咸曰:“奚仲四星,如衡狀,在天津北。”《巫咸贊》曰:“奚仲彌輪,路軨優絝。”(奚仲,車正也,軨在軾前,優絝,覆軨者也。)
Wu Xian said: "Xi Zhong" consists of four stars arranged like a scale, located to the north of Tianjin. The "Wu Xian Zan" says that Xi Zhong made all kinds of wheels, with road barriers and curtains on the car. The original book's marginal note explains that Xi Zhong was the official in charge of chariots during the Xia dynasty; "xun" refers to the wooden rail in front of the chariot's front rail; "you ku" is the curtain covering the rail. This group of stars specializes in matters related to making and driving chariots.
The Hook Star Divination involves twenty-one sections.
巫咸曰:“鉤九星,如鉤狀,在造父北。”《禮含文嘉》曰:“王者賜命,諸侯皆如其德,則陰陽和,風雨時,其九為鉤曲直。”(宋均曰:天之九星,主珍異,今賜諸侯,亦所以顯異之也;應於主珍之星,故為之曲,有直者也。)
Wu Xian said: "The Hook" consists of nine stars, shaped like a curved hook, located to the north of Zhao Fu. The chronological text "Li Han Wen Jia" states: When an emperor bestows titles and ranks, the vassals receive them in accordance with their virtue, then yin and yang harmonize and winds and rains occur at the proper times, and the nine stars of the Hook appear in curved and straight formations. The commentary from the original text cites Song Jun, who said: These nine stars in the sky govern rare and precious treasures. Now they are used to bestow upon the vassals, which is to honor their uniqueness. They correspond with the stars governing treasures, hence they are arranged in a curved shape, among which some are straight.
《荊州占》曰:“鉤星非其故,地動。”《巫咸贊》曰:“鉤星戒道,傳路宣與。”
The *Zhengzhou Zhan* says: If the hook star changes its appearance, there will be an earthquake. The *Wu Xian Zan* says: The hook star clears the way and enforces strict measures for travel, announcing imperial edicts and granting rewards along the relay stations. Therefore, it governs both the granting of treasures and imperial commands, as well as matters concerning roads and relay stations.
The Twenty-two Divination Stars of Tian Fu Star
巫咸曰:“天桴四星,在河鼓左旗端,南北列。”《黃帝占》曰:“天桴者,一名奚仲;星在河鼓東,天桴前近,河鼓則鼓用。”又曰:“天桴動,桴鼓用。”巫咸曰:“天桴星明,軍鼓鳴。”《荊州占》曰:“天桴星不明,度數改,漏刻失時。”《巫咸贊》曰:“天桴應度,節漏省時;(天桴,鼓槌也。)謂應漏刻時節也。”
Wu Xian said: "The four stars of Tian Fu are located at the end of He Gu's left flag, arranged in a line from north to south." The Huangdi Zhan says: Tian Fu is also called Xi Zhong; it is located to the east of He Gu. If Tian Fu moves closer to He Gu, the military drums will be used. It also says: When the stars of Tian Fu move, the drumsticks and war drums will be put into use. Wu Xian said: When the stars of Tian Fu are bright, the military drums should be sounded. The Jingzhou Zhan says: When the stars of Tian Fu are dim, the calendar system will need to be changed, and the water clocks will be inaccurate. The Wu Xian Zan says: Tian Fu corresponds with Tian Du, regulating the water clocks and determining the correct time. The original commentary says: Tian Fu is the drumstick; this sentence refers to its correspondence with the timekeeping instruments.
The Twenty-Three Stars of Heaven's Key Divination
巫咸曰:“天鑰八星,在南斗南杓第二星西。”(天鑰,琯鑰也。)《巫咸贊》曰:“天鑰祀記,稽問莫疑。”
Wu Xian said: "The Heavenly Key" consists of eight stars, located to the west of the second star of the southern dipper's handle. The original book's marginal note says that the Heavenly Key is also called "Guan Yue," which refers to the door lock and key. The "Wu Xian Zan" says that the Heavenly Key governs the records of worship, and all inspections and verifications are clear and definite, with no doubts.
The Twenty-Four Stars of Heaven and the Deep: The Twenty-Four Star Divination System
巫咸曰:“天淵十星,在鱉東南,九坎間;一名天淵,一名天海,主灌溉之官。”《廣雅》曰:“天淵,轅路寢。”《巫咸贊》曰:“天淵灌溉,盈滿淵區。”
Wu Xian said: "Tianyuan" consists of ten stars, located to the southeast of the鳖 star and between the Nine Pits stars; it is also called Tianyuan and Tianhai, and it is the official in charge of irrigation. The "Guangya" says that Tianyuan is also called "Yuanluqin." The "Wuxian Zan" says that Tianyuan oversees irrigation, with water flowing abundantly and filling the entire pool. All matters concerning water storage and release, as well as the abundance or scarcity of irrigation for farmland, are observed through this group of stars.
The Twenty-Five Stars of Qi are used for divination.
