The ruler of the year is in a state of weakness and confinement, and it is dead.

石氏曰：“歲星之相也，從立冬，冬至盡；其色精明，無芒角。”甘氏曰：“歲星之王也戶立春至春之盡，其色比左角大而蒼，有精光，而內實；仲春時有芒角。歲星之休也，從立夏至仲夏，無興明而赤黃。歲星之囚也，從仲夏至夏之盡，及四季王時，其包當青黑，止而不行。歲星之死也，從立秋．至秋之盡，其色黑而細小不明，此歲星之常也，天下大昌。

The Five Phases are divided into five stages of strength and decline: growth, prosperity, rest, captivity, and death. Wood is in the growth stage in winter (it is born and awaits prosperity), in spring it is prosperous, in summer it is in rest (its work is done and it retreats), in the middle of the fourth season it is in captivity, and in autumn it is in death (it is overcome by metal). The star of the year belongs to wood, so its color changes with the four seasons according to these stages. The Shi school says that when the star of the year is in the growth stage, it is from the beginning of winter to the end of winter solstice; at this time its color is pure and bright, withoutpointed rays. The Gan school says that when the star of the year is in the prosperous stage, it is from the beginning of spring to the end of spring; at this time its color is larger than the left star of the Horn mansion and is bluish-green, its brilliance is refined and its interior is full, and by mid-spring it will developpointed rays. When the star of the year is in the rest stage, it is from the beginning of summer to mid-summer; at this time it is no longer flourishing and bright, but turns to a reddish-yellow color. When the star of the year is in the captivity stage, it is from mid-summer to the end of summer, and also during the time when the earth phase is dominant in the fourth season; at this time its outer color should be dark blue-black, stagnant and not advancing. When the star of the year is in the death stage, it is from the beginning of autumn to the end of autumn; at this time its color turns black, it is small and not bright. The above describes the normal condition of the star of the year throughout the four seasons. When it conforms to these normal conditions, the world will be greatly flourishing.

當其相也而有王色，主弱臣強：有休色，相免，有囚色，相囚，有死色，相死。所留之舍，其國大強，行中度，天下和；其休，相有逆謀，不成。當其王而有相色，主弱臣強：有休色，人主有疾病之憂；有囚色，大赦；有死色，有大喪。其進舍也，有德令：其退舍也，有還令；其所守之舍，其下有逆德。

The planet Jupiter should be in the "Xiang" phase but appears in the "Wang" color, indicating the ruler is weak and the minister is strong; if it appears in the "Xiu" color, the prime minister will be dismissed; if it appears in the "Qiu" color, the prime minister will be imprisoned; if it appears in the "Si" color, the prime minister will die. The country corresponding to the star's dwelling will be very powerful; if Jupiter moves according to the regular course, the world will be in harmony; if it appears in the "Xiu" color, the prime minister will have rebellious intentions but will not succeed. Jupiter should be in the "Wang" phase but appears in the "Xiang" color, also indicating the ruler is weak and the minister is strong; if it appears in the "Xiu" color, the sovereign will have illness; if it appears in the "Qiu" color, there will be a great amnesty; if it appears in the "Si" color, there will be a great mourning. When Jupiter advances to a new mansion, there will be an edict of grace and virtue; when it retreats to a previous mansion, there will be an edict to revoke previous orders; the mansion it stays in will have rebellious actions beneath its corresponding territory.

當其休也而有王色，所居之舍，其國受兵；有相色，其國大臣誅傷；有囚色，草木傷；有死色，禾豆不入，稻芋半傷。當其囚也而有王色，政令不行，下反其上，主聽不聰；有相色，臣下專政，六月有霜；有休色，所謀不成：有死色，誅故貴公卿：所居之舍，其國有禍喪。當其死也而有王色，則秋榮華，有相色，枯木復生；有休色，有土功：有囚色，有大喪。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星王時，當有芒角：若無芒角者，王者無成，勢在臣下。”

The planet Jupiter should be in the "Rest" phase but appears with the color of "Dominance," indicating that the country it governs will suffer military calamity; if it appears with the color of "Minister," the country's ministers will be executed or injured; if it appears with the color of "Captivity," grass and trees will be damaged; if it appears with the color of "Death," grains and beans will not be harvested, and rice and taro will be severely damaged. If Jupiter should be in the "Captivity" phase but appears with the color of "Dominance," government policies will not be implemented, subordinates will rebel against superiors, and the ruler will be unable to hear clearly; if it appears with the color of "Minister," ministers will seize power, and frost will fall in June; if it appears with the color of "Rest," plans will not succeed; if it appears with the color of "Death," old and prominent officials will be executed. The country it governs will suffer disaster and loss. If Jupiter should be in the "Death" phase but appears with the color of "Dominance," grass and trees will bloom in autumn; if it appears with the color of "Minister," withered trees will sprout again; if it appears with the color of "Rest," there will be large-scale construction projects; if it appears with the color of "Captivity," there will be great mourning. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When Jupiter is in the "Dominance" phase, it should show apointed rays (芒角 is a term for a芒角, which is a type of hair or feather-like structure on the planet). If there is nopointed rays, it indicates that the king will achieve nothing, and power will fall into the hands of ministers.

甘氏曰；“候歲星以春、甲、乙，此王氣當如其常色，變則失所也。”甘氏曰：“歲星如左角之狀，其色蒼，十二芒；蒼比伐左肩，赤比心，黃比（闕）大角，黑比奎大星。”巫咸曰：“歲星色青白如灰，主有憂；期五月，兵獄大起，青多為獄，白多為兵，青白等，兵獄並起。”《海中占》曰：“歲星色黃，得地。”《焦貢》曰：“歲星主歲，色黃澤，有年；赤而黑，無年。”《天官書》曰：“歲星色黃赤而沉，所居野大穰。”

The Gan school says: Observing the planet Jupiter should be done in spring on days of Jia or Yi. At this time, the wood energy is at its peak, and the color of the planet should match its usual color. If it changes, it indicates that the planet has lost its proper position. The Gan school also says: The shape and color of Jupiter resemble the left star of the Horn mansion, with a bluish-green color and twelve rays. When discussing the bluish color, it is compared to the left shoulder star of the Three Stars mansion; when discussing the red color, it is compared to the great star of the Heart mansion; when discussing the yellow color, it is compared to the great angle star (the missing character here is likely "大" for "great"); when discussing the black color, it is compared to the great star of the Legs mansion. This is a method of comparing the color of the planet with that of fixed stars. Wu Xian says: When Jupiter appears bluish-white like ash, it indicates calamity, and the period will be five months, with great military conflicts and legal cases. More bluish color indicates more legal cases, more white color indicates more military conflicts, and an equal amount of bluish and white color indicates both military conflicts and legal cases occurring together. The "Sea of Divination" says: When Jupiter is yellow, it indicates gaining land. The "Jiao Gong" says: Jupiter governs the harvest, and if it is yellow and moist, there will be a good harvest; if it is red with black, there will be no harvest. The "Records of the Grand Historian: Book of Celestial Officials" says: When Jupiter is yellow and red with dim light, the fields in the region it occupies will have a great harvest.

《荊州占》曰：“君有德，則歲星潤澤，光明；君無德，則歲星細小，不明。歲星黃赤潤澤，立竿見影，大熟；人主有喜。歲星始，正月受歲，色赤黃潤，所居之野，大穰；其色黃白，有爵祿之賞也；色正白，人主死，草野素服，諸侯皆戒，當有兵謀，不成；色白而圓，瘁而不光，期三十日，有喪。

The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the sovereign is virtuous, the star of the year (Jupiter) is moist and bright; when the sovereign lacks virtue, the star of the year is small and dim. If the star of the year is yellowish-red and moist, and bright enough to cast a shadow when a pole is raised, it indicates a great harvest, and the sovereign will have joyful events. When the star of the year appears at the beginning of the year and during the first month, receiving the governance of the year, if it is red-yellow and moist, the fields in the region it represents will have a great harvest; if it is yellow-white, there will be rewards of titles and salaries; if it is pure white, the sovereign will die, and the people in the countryside will wear mourning clothes, the feudal lords will be on guard, and there will be military plans, but they will not succeed; if it is white and round, with dry and dull light, an event of mourning will occur within thirty days.

歲星色青白，是其常色，赤則主有憂；色黃，有喜；色白，為旱喪；色黑，多疾病，一曰有水災；歲星色青黑，期六十日，有喪。歲星色黃白，歲穰。歲星色青，圓，為憂；赤，圓，黑，圓，病，不出三十五日，大喪，改服。歲星在春，其色當蒼黃而潤澤，其變而白，秋有喪；變而赤者，夏有兵。歲星赤黃而動，期九十日，兵，若喪：色赤黑，侯王憂。歲星失色而黃，女后持政，期百八十日。失色而青黑，不出百八十日，有大喪。”

The planet Jupiter appears greenish-white, which is its normal color; if it turns red, there will be worries and troubles; if it is yellow, there will be joy and celebration; if it is white, there will be drought and mourning; if it is black, there will be many diseases, or according to some interpretations, floods; if Jupiter is green and black, there will be mourning within sixty days. If Jupiter is yellow and white, there will be a good harvest. If Jupiter is green and round in shape, there will be worries; if it is red and round or black and round, there will be illness, and within thirty-five days there will be great mourning and a change in clothing color. In spring, Jupiter's color should be bluish-yellow and moist; if it turns white, there will be mourning in autumn; if it turns red, there will be military conflicts in summer. If Jupiter is red and yellow but fluctuates, there will be military conflicts or mourning within ninety days; if it is red and black, the prince or king will have worries. If Jupiter loses its original color and turns yellow, the female ruler will take power, and this will happen within one hundred and eighty days; if it loses its original color and turns green and black, there will be great mourning within one hundred and eighty days.

《黃帝占》曰：“歲星在東方之宿，色當青色；白而角，有怒；色赤，有兵：色黑，有喪：色黃白，歲大熟。歲星在北方之宿，色當黑白：白而角，有兵；色青，有憂；色白，有怒；色黃白，歲大熟。歲星在西方之宿，色當白，色赤而角，皆為有兵；青為憂，黑為喪，赤有怒，色黃白，歲大熟。歲星在南方之宿，，色當赤；色白而有角，兵：青有憂，若怒：色黑有喜，色黃白，歲大熟。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the planet Jupiter travels to the seven stars of the eastern quadrant, its color should be blue; if it is white with sharp edges, there will be matters of anger; if it is red, there will be military affairs; if it is black, there will be mourning; if it is yellow and white, there will be a great harvest. When Jupiter travels to the seven stars of the northern quadrant, its color should be a mixture of white and black; if it is white with sharp edges, there will be military affairs; if it is blue, there will be worries; if it is white, there will be matters of anger; if it is yellow and white, there will be a great harvest. When Jupiter travels to the seven stars of the western quadrant, its color should be white; if it is red with sharp edges, there will be military affairs; if it is blue, there will be worries; if it is black, there will be mourning; if it is red, there will be anger; if it is yellow and white, there will be a great harvest. When Jupiter travels to the seven stars of the southern quadrant, its color should be red; if it is white with sharp edges, there will be military affairs; if it is blue, there will be worries or matters of anger; if it is black, there will be joy; if it is yellow and white, there will be a great harvest. This method uses the natural color corresponding to the direction of the seven stars that Jupiter travels to as the standard, and then observes any changes in color to determine fortune or misfortune.

《文曜鉤》曰：“歲星色赤，有角：所居之國昌，人主以武強戰，無芒角，不勝。色赤黃，以反德，豐穰；君臣和合。色青白而赤耀，其國有乖離之謀，大臣發計，主有憂懼。”《鉤命決》曰：“天子失和，則黃龍不見，歲星五角。”巫咸曰：“歲星赤黃角，國有喜。”《海中占》曰：“歲星色蒼黃，吉：赤芒澤，有子孫，喜，立王；黃得地；白，有兵；黑，有德令。”

The Wen Yao Gou states: The color of the star of years is red with a sharp edge; the country under its domain will flourish, and the king can conquer by force. If it lacks the sharp edge, he will not be able to conquer. If its color is red and yellow, it signifies returning to virtue, indicating a good harvest and harmony between the king and his ministers. If its color is blue and white with a bright red glow, there will be plots of disloyalty in the country under its domain, ministers will conspire, and the king will be anxious. The Gou Ming Jue states: When the Son of Heaven loses the middle and harmony, the yellow dragon will not appear, and the star of years will have five sharp edges. Wu Xian says: If the star of years is red and yellow with a sharp edge, there will be joy in the country. The Hai Zhong Zhan states: If the star of years is dark yellow, it is a good omen; if it is red with a bright and moist edge, it signifies the birth of sons and daughters, good news, and the enthronement of a king; if it is yellow, it signifies gaining land; if it is white, it signifies military affairs; if it is black, it signifies imperial edicts of benevolence.

《荊州占》曰：“歲星東行，前芒短者，欲留之象；不出七日，留。正見南方，芒指卯、酉、子、午者，此王者正也；指西維者，不正也。歲星西行，前芒短者，欲留；不出三日，留。歲星失色，白耀耀圓而揚赤芒，王者誅大臣，期九十日。歲星色青而角，有水功事。歲星色赤，角，則犯我城。歲星角，人主有怒。歲星一角，七寸，外射者；大使、大臣出，期九十日；三角，兵誅，期六十日。歲星三角、芒；傷近臣，誅內將相，期百八十日。歲星五角，王者自出將，兵期百八十日。

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When the planet Jupiter moves eastward, if the stars ahead have their beams shortened, this is a sign that it will stop and remain in place, and it will not take more than seven days before it stops. When Jupiter is seen directly in the south, and its beam points toward the four cardinal directions—卯 (Mao), 酉 (You), 子 (Zi), and 午 (Wu)—this indicates that the king's decrees are just and upright. If the beam points toward the western 维 (Wei) positions, which are the southwest and northwest, then the king's decrees are not just. When Jupiter moves westward, if the stars ahead have their beams shortened, this is also a sign that it will stop and remain in place, and it will not take more than three days before it stops. If Jupiter loses its original color, appears white and bright, has a round shape, and emits a red beam, the king will execute high officials, and this will occur within ninety days. If Jupiter has a green color and a beam, there will be construction work related to water management. If Jupiter has a red color and a beam, there will be enemy troops attacking our city walls. If Jupiter develops a beam, the sovereign will have an outburst of anger. If Jupiter has only one beam, which is seven inches long and shoots straight outward, then there will be a major official or high minister traveling, and this will occur within ninety days. If Jupiter has three beams, there will be military conflict and executions, and this will occur within sixty days. If Jupiter has three beams in a triangular shape, it will harm close officials and result in the execution of ministers within the court, and this will occur within one hundred and eighty days. If Jupiter has five beams, the king will personally lead an army as a general, and military affairs will occur within one hundred and eighty days.

歲星留，不行而芒角有長者，是星欲行，候隨；芒角所指，如是從之；其芒南者，星入外宿，王者欲遣大使之邊國，期九十日；芒北入中宿者，是王者在外，欲還也；不出四十日；芒在東者，欲順行也，不出七日；行，是天子欲出，不過五十日，則王者出宮；其芒在西者，欲逆行也；不出七十日，逆行；不出四十日，王者誅大臣。

The planet is stationary but a bright ray becomes longer, indicating a sign that the star is about to move. When observing, follow the direction of the ray: if it points south, the star will enter the outer mansion, and the king should send envoys to the border states, with an expected time of ninety days; if the ray points north and the star enters the middle mansion, it means the king is outside and wishes to return, and he will come back within forty days; if the ray points east, the star will move forward, and it will move within seven days; once it moves, it indicates the emperor wants to travel, and the king will leave the palace within fifty days; if the ray points west, the star will move backward, and it will begin to move backward within seventy days, and the king will punish a minister within forty days.

歲星芒邪、角不正；則王者心不正，外邪以應外臣；內邪以應后夫人。歲星有芒、無角；則王者心平，天下安寧，期百八十日。歲星變色，人主有怒；若有芒，角黑，有水；青角，有兵；白角，死喪；若無芒角，有軍戰，不勝。歲星七角又芒者，王者與四方戰，期不出一年。歲星九角又芒者，殺賢人，誅邊將，期一年。”石氏曰：“歲星色白角，哭泣之聲。歲星木用事王東方、無芒角，是王者內弱，威不使臣也。五寸以內曰芒，五寸以上至九寸，曰角。”《天官書》曰：“歲星角，迎角而戰者，不勝。”

The bright light of the planet Jupiter is crooked and its horn is not straight, indicating that the ruler's mind is not upright. If the light is slanted outward, it indicates problems with officials in the outer court; if it is slanted inward, it indicates issues with the queen consort. If Jupiter has a bright light but no horn, it indicates the ruler's heart is peaceful and the world is at peace, and this will last for 180 days. If Jupiter changes color, the ruler will have an outburst of anger. If it has a bright light and a black horn, there will be floods; a green horn indicates warfare; a white horn indicates death and mourning; if there is neither a bright light nor a horn, there will be battles where the army cannot win. If Jupiter has seven horns and a bright light, the ruler will wage war with the four directions, and this will happen within a year. If Jupiter has nine horns and a bright light, it will result in the killing of virtuous people and the execution of border generals, and this will happen within a year. The Shi school says: if Jupiter is white and has horns, there will be weeping. When Jupiter is in the period of the wood element and rules the east but has neither a bright light nor a horn, it indicates the ruler's inner strength is weak and his authority cannot command the ministers. The difference between a bright light and a horn is in length: five inches or less is called a 'bright light', and five to nine inches is called a 'horn'. The Records of the Grand Historian, Book of Celestial Officials says: if Jupiter has a horn, the side that faces the horn in battle will not win.

《五行傳》曰：“歲星超舍而前，為盈；退舍而後，為縮；盈其國有兵；縮其國有憂。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星超舍而前，過其所當舍，而宿以上一舍、兩舍、三舍，謂之羸；侯王不寧，不乃天裂；不乃地動。歲星退舍，而後以一舍、二舍、三舍，謂之縮；侯王有戚，其所去，宿國有憂，三年；有兵，若山崩，地動。”《雒書雒罪極》曰：“歲星當居不居，未當去而去，不言，主酷暴。”《詩緯》曰：“歲星無光，進退無常，此仁道失類之應。”《文曜鉤》曰：“歲星所居久，其國有德厚，人主有福，不可加以兵。”

The "Five Elements Transmission" says: When the star of the year (Jiu Xing) passes over the dwelling it should be in and moves forward, it is called "Ying"; when it retreats to the dwelling behind, it is called "Suo." If it is Ying, then the country corresponding to its dwelling will have military affairs; if it is So, then the country corresponding to its dwelling will have worries and troubles. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: When the star of the year passes over its dwelling and moves forward, exceeding the dwelling it should be in by one, two, or three dwellings, this is called "Ying," which indicates that the prince and king will not have peace; it is either a sky splitting open or an earthquake. When the star of the year retreats from its dwelling and lags behind by one, two, or three dwellings, this is called "Suo," which indicates that the prince and king will have worries and sorrows; the dwelling it leaves behind will have three years of troubles, or military calamities, or mountain collapses and earthquakes. The "Lu Book Lu Crimes Extreme" says: When the star of the year should stay but does not stay, and should leave but does not leave, the divination does not clearly state the meaning, indicating that the government orders are severe and tyrannical. The "Po Wei" says: When the star of the year loses its luster and moves forward and backward without a regular pattern, this is a sign that the virtue of benevolence has been lost and that the corresponding energies are in dissonance. The "Wenyao Gou" says: When the star of the year stays in one dwelling for a long time, the country corresponding to its dwelling will have deep benevolent blessings, the ruler will have good fortune, and it is not appropriate to wage war against it.

石氏曰：“歲星主仁，仁失者，罰出變見於歲星，歲星盈縮，故曰罰出，此失政也；言歲星所以盈縮之宿，乃以仁失，逆春氣之所致也。以其宿，命其國，聖人觀歲星的盈縮之宿，以知仁失之國也。”

The Shi school says: The planet Jupiter governs benevolence and virtue. When benevolence and virtue are lacking, punishment manifests in the form of anomalies in the position of Jupiter. Jupiter may appear ahead and be full, or lag behind and be diminished, so it is called "penalty appears." This is an indication of failure in governance. The star mansion where Jupiter is full or diminished is precisely due to the lack of benevolence and virtue on earth and the violation of the spring energy. By referring to the star mansion where Jupiter is located, one can identify the corresponding territory. The sage observes the star mansion where Jupiter is full or diminished, and thus knows which country has lost benevolence and virtue.

石氏曰：“其國失義，失春政，則歲星羸縮，羸則其下之國有兵，不居；復縮，則其下之國有憂，其將死，國傾敗。又曰歲星當居不居，未當去而去，若居之；又南北東西翔之，搖動不留，名曰六排，皆陰驚其陽，臣下勝其主，人主有大憂，三公之禍，相以所之宿名其官，不舍者懦，強邦去之者，嬖妃；雄動搖者，勢不亡，期在衡。

The Shi school says: When a country loses virtue and fails to implement the proper policies of spring, the star of the year (the planet Jupiter) will fluctuate and lose its proper measure. If it moves forward (win), then the country corresponding to its position will have military conflicts, and the star will not stay in place. If it turns to retreat (shrink), then the country corresponding to its position will have troubles, its generals will die, and the state will fall. It also says: If the star of the year should stay in its place but does not, or should leave but does not, or although it stays in its place, it moves erratically, going south and north, east and west, without settling, this is called 'six dispositions' (six deviations). These are all cases of yin disturbing yang, ministers overpowering the sovereign, the sovereign facing great worries, and the three dukes suffering misfortune. As for which minister it refers to, it is determined by the official position corresponding to the star's position in the constellations. If the star does not settle, the person is timid. If the star leaves a strong country, it refers to the favored concubine. If the star moves vigorously, its power will not be destroyed, and the time of occurrence will be when the balance of the scales points to it.

（案《左傳》曰：‘魯襄公二十八年，梓慎曰：‘今茲宋鄭其飢乎。’杜預注曰：‘梓慎魯大夫也，’傳曰：‘歲在星紀，而淫於玄枵。’注曰：‘歲，歲星也。星紀在丑、斗牛之次，玄枵在於，虛危之次，明年當在玄枵，今已在玄枵，淫行失次也。’傳曰：‘蛇乘龍，’注曰：‘蛇，玄武之宿，虛危之星，龍，歲星木也，木為青龍，大次出虛危下，為蛇所乘也。’

According to the commentary in the original text: According to the Records of the Grand Historian, in the 28th year of Duke Xiang of Lu, Zi Shen said: This year, the State of Song and the State of Zheng may suffer from famine. Du Yu's commentary says that Zi Shen was a high official of Lu. The Records of the Grand Historian say, "The year is in the Star Command, and it has strayed into Xuanxiao." Du Yu's commentary says: "The year" refers to the star of the year; Star Command belongs to the Chou position, which is the constellation of Dou and Niu. Xuanxiao belongs to the Zi position, which is the constellation of Xu and Wei. The star of the year should arrive at Xuanxiao next year, but it has already entered Xuanxiao, which is moving out of order and losing its proper constellation. The Records of the Grand Historian says, "A snake is riding a dragon." Du Yu's commentary says: "Snake refers to the constellation of Xuanwu, which is the constellations of Xu and Wei; dragon refers to the star of the year, which belongs to wood, and wood is the Qinglong. The Qinglong should be in its own constellation, but now it appears beneath the constellations of Xu and Wei, so it is said to be ridden by the snake above."

傳曰：‘龍，宋鄭之星也。’注曰：‘歲星本位在東方，東方房心為宋，角亢為鄭，故以龍為宋鄭之星，’傳曰：‘宋鄭必飢，玄枵，虛中也。’注曰：‘玄枵三宿，虛星在其中也。’傳曰：‘玄枵，耗名也，土虛而民耗，不飢何為。鄭裨灶曰：今茲王及楚子皆將死，歲星棄其次，而旅於明年之次，以害鳥帑，周楚惡之。’

The small annotation continues: The "Zuo Zhuan" says, "Dragon, the star of Song and Zheng." Du's commentary explains that the year star is located in the east, and the two mansions Fang and Xin in the east are the territories of Song, while the two mansions Jiao and Kang are those of Zheng, so the Azure Dragon is regarded as the star of Song and Zheng. The "Zuo Zhuan" also says, "Song and Zheng will surely suffer famine, Xuxu, which is in the center of Xuxu." Du's commentary explains that Xuxu includes three mansions, and Xuxu is right in the middle. The "Zuo Zhuan" says: Xuxu is a name meaning exhaustion; the land is empty and the people are depleted, how could there be no famine? The minister Bizi of Zheng said: This year both the King of Zhou and the King of Chu will die, because the year star has left its proper mansion and stayed in the mansion of next year, thus disturbing the tail of the Southern Bird, and both Zhou and Chu will be affected because of this.

注曰：‘旅，客處也，歲星棄星紀之次，客在玄枵，歲星所在，其圖有福，失次於此，禍沖在南，南為朱鳥，鳥尾曰帑。鶉火鶉尾，周楚之分，故周王楚子受其咎。’經曰：‘十有二月，甲寅、天王崩，乙未、楚子昭卒，往年，宋鄭皆飢，則梓慎之占，各有其驗也。’）

The final note says: Du's commentary explains that "travel" means to reside as a guest; the star of years has left its proper sequence and is residing in Xuanxiao. Normally, the area where the star of years resides should bring good fortune, but now it has left its proper place, so misfortune falls upon the direction that opposes it, which is the south. The south is the bird Alauda, and the tail of the bird is called "tang". Chuniuhuo and Chuniwei are the territories of the Zhou and Chu states, so the king of Zhou and the prince of Chu suffered this calamity. The Spring and Autumn Annals records: in the twelfth month on the day Jiayin, the king of Zhou died; on the day Yiwei, the prince of Chu Zhao died. And the previous year, the states of Song and Zheng both suffered from famine. Clearly, Zizhen's prediction was fulfilled in each case.

又曰：“歲星去其舍，之他舍；所去失地，所之得地。歲星所居，而徙搖前後左右，人主不安。歲星不得其宿，其國必亡君。”又曰：“歲星修仁，順則喜，逆則怒。”甘氏曰：“歲星所處而不處，其國乃亡；既已處之，又東西去之，其國凶，不可舉事，用兵。歲星出入，不當其次，有天妖見其沖；所去國凶，所之國昌。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星當出不出，而去；其次凶。”《淮南子》曰：“歲星當居而不居，越而之他處，主死，國亡。”

It is also said that the star of years leaves its original dwelling and moves to another, causing the territory of the place it leaves to lose land, and the territory of the place it goes to to gain land. Although the star of years stays in one place, it moves around left and right, causing the ruler to be restless. If the star of years does not reach its proper dwelling, the country corresponding to that dwelling will certainly lose its ruler. It is also said that the star of years is responsible for promoting benevolence and virtue. If human affairs are harmonious, it is pleased; if human affairs are chaotic, it is angry. The Gan school says: if the star of years does not reside in its proper place, the country corresponding to that place will perish; if it has already settled there but then moves east and west unpredictably, the country corresponding to that place will be in danger, and great undertakings should not be carried out, nor should military actions be taken. If the star of years appears or disappears in a way that does not match its proper star division, there will be heavenly omens appearing in the direction opposite to it; the country that is left behind will be in misfortune, while the country it moves to will flourish. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: if the star of years does not appear when it should, but instead departs, the star division it governs will be ominous. The "Huainanzi" says: if the star of years should stay but does not, and instead moves beyond its proper position to another place, it indicates the death of the ruler and the destruction of the country.

京氏曰：“樂不興，則歲失行。人君不行仁恩；破胎傷孕。春殺無辜，則星失度；不救，則弟殺兄，臣弒君。”班固曰：“政緩則歲不行，急則過分，逆則占。”郗萌曰：“歲星當移而不移，民有憂；諸侯四流，行不用其道，則凶。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星當居不居，其國失地；未當居而居，其國得地，期九十日。

The Jingshi School says: If rites and music are not practiced, the star of the year will lose its regular course. If the sovereign does not practice benevolence and kindness, destroys embryos and harms things that carry life, and executes the innocent in spring, the star will lose its normal path; if this is not corrected, there will be cases of younger brothers killing elder brothers and ministers killing their sovereigns. Ban Gu says: If government affairs are lenient, the star of the year will move slowly; if they are urgent, it will exceed its proper measure; if they are perverse, it should be used for divination. Xi Meng says: If the star of the year should move but does not, the people will suffer; if the feudal lords scatter and wander, and their course is not regular, it is an omen of misfortune. The Jingzhou Divination says: If the star of the year should stay but does not, the country under its domain will lose its territory; if it should stay but stays, the country under its domain will gain territory, and this will happen within ninety days.

歲星當居其國之宿，而終宿不居其野，亡。歲星未當居而居之，當去而不去，既已去復還居之，皆為有福。歲星行不至所當舍之宿，其國凶。”又曰：“不行其宿，其國必亡君。歲星行不至所當舍之宿，其國凶。”又曰：“不行其宿，其國必亡君。歲星居之安國，安居之；不安國不安。歲星一東一西，害侯王，人主不安；一南一北，害於泰稷，侯王憂；移而北，旱；移而南，大水。”又曰：“南北為貴賤，東西為妖祥。”

The planet Jupiter should remain in the constellation corresponding to a particular country, but if it refuses to stay there, that country will perish. If Jupiter is supposed to leave but does not, or if it has already left but returns, these situations are auspicious. If Jupiter does not reach the constellation it should occupy, the country under that constellation will suffer misfortune. It also says that if Jupiter does not reach its proper constellation, the country will certainly lose its ruler. (These two sentences are repeated in the original text.) If Jupiter remains in its place, the country will be stable; if it does not, the country will be unstable. If Jupiter moves east and west unpredictably, it will harm the king and cause unrest among the people. If it moves north and south unpredictably, it will harm the harvest of millet and cause worry for the king. If it moves north, it indicates drought; if it moves south, it indicates heavy flooding. It also says that movement north and south indicates changes in status between the noble and the common, while movement east and west indicates omens of good or bad fortune.

《鴻範傳》曰：“佃獵不當，飲食不享，出入不時，及有奸謀；則歲星逆行，變色。”《春秋緯》曰：“好害盛德，則歲星逆行。春政亂者，奪民時，獵野獸，則歲星逆行。”石氏曰：“歲星順行列宿者，天德喜也；所守犯中外官皆吉。有暴貴者，星逆行，不欲犯列宿中外官者，皆誅。歲星逆行，其國不可以興兵；星順，兵宜進；星逆，兵宜退。”《巫咸占》曰：“歲星亂行，五穀不實，草木秋英。”《天鏡》曰：“歲星逆行，不軌；為殃賊。”焦氏曰：“歲星逆三月，二月有害；乃行三舍以上，則為害。”郗萌曰：“歲星之行，當遲而疾，失一次以上至二次，則人主驚走，社稷危亡，天下兵起，民去其土，死者如兵陵。”

The "Hong Fan Zhuan" says: If hunting is not in accordance with the law, if food is not offered in proper ritual, if going in and out is not in season, and if one harbors evil schemes, the star of the year will move retrograde and change its color. The "Chun Qiu Wei" says: If one delights in harming virtuous people, the star of the year will move retrograde; if the spring government is disorderly, if it encroaches on the people's farming time, if it hunts wild animals excessively, the star of the year will also move retrograde. The Shi school says: When the star of the year moves in order through the constellations, it is a sign of the heavens' virtue and joy; all the stars in the middle and outer courts that it occupies or passes will be auspicious, and there will be sudden rise to power. If the star moves retrograde, it is not appropriate to invade the constellations or the middle and outer courts; all those it passes will correspond to people who will be executed. When the star moves retrograde, it is not appropriate to wage war in the territory it governs; when it moves in order, it is appropriate to advance with the army; when it moves retrograde, it is appropriate to retreat. The "Wu Xian Zhan" says: When the star of the year moves in disorder, the five grains will not mature, and grass and trees will bloom in autumn. The "Tian Jing" says: When the star of the year moves retrograde, it is not following its path, which indicates the rise of demons and disturbances. The Jiao school says: When the star of the year moves retrograde in March, harm will already occur in February; if it moves retrograde beyond three mansions, it becomes a calamity. Xi Meng says: When the star of the year is supposed to move slowly but instead moves quickly, advancing more than once up to twice, the ruler will be alarmed and flee, the state will be in peril, the whole country will rise in rebellion, the people will leave their homeland, and the dead will pile up like hills after battle.

《荊州占》曰：“歲星犯守錯逆，其國殃咎；若守之滿六十日，災必應。歲星變色、亂行，主無福。”（案《宋書天文志》曰：“晉簡文咸安二年五月，歲星表色如太白，占曰：進退如度，奸邪息，變色亂行，主無福。歲星自於仲夏，當細小而明，此其失常也。又為臣強，七月帝疾甚，詔桓溫曰：少子可輔者，輔之，如不可輔，君自取之。賴侍中王坦之毀手詔，使如王尊輔政事，溫聞之大怒，將誅坦之等，是月帝崩。）

The *Jingzhou Divination* says: If the planet Jupiter invades, stays, and moves erratically, the country corresponding to its position will suffer calamity and misfortune; if it stays for sixty days, the disaster will certainly occur. If Jupiter changes color and moves disorderly, the ruler will have no fortune. (Original commentary: According to the *Song Book · Astronomical Records*, in May of the second year of Jianwen Emperor's Xian'an reign, Jupiter appeared white like the star Tai Bai. The divination text says: If Jupiter advances and retreats in proper measure, then villains will be subdued; if it changes color and moves disorderly, the ruler will have no fortune. In midsummer, Jupiter should be small and bright, but at that time it deviated from the norm, indicating that the ministers would become powerful. In July, the emperor became seriously ill and issued an edict to Huan Wen, saying: If the young prince can be assisted, assist him; if not, you should take the throne yourself. Fortunately, the attendant counselor Wang Tanzhi destroyed this decree and changed it to follow the old precedent of having Wang Wen (probably a mistake for Wang Dao) assist in governance. Huan Wen heard this and became very angry, intending to kill Wang Tanzhi and others. In this same month, the emperor died.)

王者不行春令，興土功，作宮室，築城隍，治溝瀆，而奪民時；百姓怨嗟，則歲星盈當縮，順而逆；水旱不時，當出不出，變為妖慧，所見之邦，大兵起，國破主亡。王者行義，起宗廟，立無後，賑貧窮，存孤寡，省刑獄，賞有功，舉隱伏，禮賢良，發庫藏，罷徭役，寬賦斂，則星順度，無咎矣。

The king fails to implement the proper policies of spring, instead extensively engaging in construction projects, building palaces, fortifying cities and ditches, and excavating canals, thereby encroaching upon the people's farming time. The people complain and grumble. When the year star should be full, it becomes diminished; when it should move forward, it moves backward. Droughts and floods occur at inappropriate times, failing to appear when they should, transforming into ominous comets. Where such comets appear, great armies rise, and the state falls, the king perishes. If the king practices benevolence and righteousness, constructs ancestral temples, establishes heirs for childless families, provides relief to the poor, cares for orphans and the elderly, reduces legal punishments, rewards the meritorious, appoints retired scholars, honors the virtuous, opens the treasury for distribution, abolishes forced labor, and reduces taxes, then the year star will move in accordance with its proper course, and there will be no calamity.

人君宰相之治也，春不勸農民耕種，通溝渠，治城郭，而奪民時，百姓怨謗，則歲星盈縮，逆行變色；而天雨不時，有大旱與水；其無救，即天掊出，出則殃起，主農官及用事者憂。君行急，則歲星行陰道，行陰道，多水潦，王者內其心，恩在親威，功臣不錄。歲星行疾而遲，不及其次至二次，人主暗昏，國絕嗣，女后持政，大夫不服，民賊不禁。

When the sovereign and his ministers govern the state, if in spring they do not encourage farmers to till the land, dredge ditches, or repair city walls, but instead take away the farmers' time for farming, the people will become resentful and criticize. Then the planet Jupiter will lose its proper course, move逆行, and change its color. The weather will become disorderly, resulting in either great drought or great flood. If this is not corrected, the "heavenly punishment" will appear, and calamities will follow. Officials in charge of agriculture and those in power will all face troubles. If the sovereign governs with haste, the planet Jupiter will move along the yin path, leading to more flooding. At this time, the sovereign's mind is inward, his grace is limited to relatives, and meritorious ministers are not appointed. The planet Jupiter should move quickly but moves slowly, failing to reach its proper position, lagging behind by two positions. The sovereign is dull and unclear, the state will lose its heir, the queen mother will rule, the ministers will be不服, and the villains who harm the people will not be stopped.

歲星逆行，變色，其國逐功臣，殺太子，人主以妾為妻，內亂親戚。歲星逆行，不可以戰，色其所去國，五穀皆貴。君治逆，則歲星逆，逆行入陰道者，內事逆，逆行入陽道者，外事逆；君治逆不止，則星逆行不止。”《海中占》曰：“主好陰謀，侵凌諸侯，急兵革；則歲星逆行。”

The planet Jupiter moves retrograde and changes color, indicating that the country corresponding to its position will expel meritorious ministers and kill the crown prince. The king will take a concubine as a wife, and there will be internal strife among relatives. When Jupiter moves retrograde, it is not advisable to go to war. Observe the country that Jupiter leaves; the five grains will all rise in price. When the king governs in a perverse way, Jupiter moves retrograde. If Jupiter moves retrograde into the Yin path, internal affairs of the palace will be perverse; if it moves retrograde into the Yang path, external affairs of the court will be perverse. If the king continues to act in a perverse manner, the retrograde movement of the star will not cease. The "Sea Divination" says: if the sovereign delights in schemes, oppresses the feudal lords, and urgently uses military force, Jupiter will move retrograde.

甘氏曰：“歲星晝見，臣謀其主，國相有憂及死，有白衣事。”（《宋書天文志》曰：“晉惠帝永寧二年四月癸酉，歲星晝見。占曰：為臣強。初齊王冏定京都，因留輔政，遂專傲無君。十二月，成都、河間、長沙王乂討之，交戰及焚宮闕，國兵敗，夷滅之，殺其兄上軍將軍萛以下二十餘人。）《晉陽秋》曰：“孝武太元十一年六月甲午，歲星晝見，在胃。占曰：‘魯有兵，臣強。’十二月，慕容釗寇河東，崔遼使子寇、陳穎、朱序遣討之，釗走渡河。”

The Gan school says: When the star of years is visible during the day, it indicates that ministers and officials plot against the sovereign, the prime minister faces calamity or even death, and there will be an event known as the "white-cloth affair," which refers to mourning. (Original note: The "Book of the Song: Records of Astronomy" records that in the second year of Yongning during the reign of Emperor Hui of Jin, on the day of Guiyou in the fourth lunar month, the star of years was visible during the day. The divination text said: This is a sign of powerful ministers. At that time, Prince Sima Jing of Qi pacified the capital and remained in court to assist in governance, thus becoming arrogant and disrespectful to the sovereign. In the twelfth lunar month, Prince Chengdu, Prince Hejian, and Prince Changsha Sima Yi raised an army to attack him, and they fought against him, burning the palace gates. The army of Prince Sima Jing was defeated, his entire family was exterminated, and his elder brother, General of the Upper Army Sima Cao, and more than twenty others were all killed.) The "Jinyang Autumn" says: In the eleventh year of Taowen during the reign of Emperor Xiaowu of Jin, on the day of Jiawu in the sixth lunar month, the star of years was visible during the day, located in the mansion of the stomach. The divination text said: There will be military affairs in Lu, and ministers will be powerful. In the twelfth lunar month of that year,慕容钊 invaded Hedong, and Cui Liao sent his son along with Chen Ying and Zhu Xue to attack him (this sentence in the original text has errors and omissions),慕容钊 retreated, crossed the Yellow River and went away.

《龍魚河圖》曰：“夫歲星主德慶，其神下為大乙之神。”巫咸曰：“歲星下為壯男，止於田野。”《漢武故事》曰：“西王母遣使謂上曰：“求仙而先殺戮，吾與帝絕矣；又致三桃，食此可得極壽；使至之日，東方朔死。上疑之，問；使者曰：‘朔是木帝精，為歲星下游人中，以觀天下，非陛下臣也。’上厚葬之。一本云：朔死，乘雲飛去，仰望大霧，望之不知所在。朔在漢朝，天上無歲星。”

The Longyu Hetu says: The planet Jupiter governs virtue and blessings, and when its star deity descends to the human world, it becomes the deity Taiyi. Wu Xian says: When the planet Jupiter descends to the human world, it takes the form of a strong man and stays in the fields. The Hanwu Gushi says: The Queen Mother of the West sent an envoy to Emperor Wu of Han, saying: You seek immortality and wisdom but have first committed killings; from now on, I will no longer communicate with you. The envoy also brought three divine peaches, saying that eating them would grant one a long life. On the day the envoy arrived, Dongfang Shuo died. Emperor Wu was puzzled and asked for the reason. The envoy said: Dongfang Shuo was originally the spirit of the wood deity, and was the planet Jupiter descending to wander among humans to observe the world. He was not your subject. Emperor Wu then gave him a proper burial. Another version says: After Dongfang Shuo died, he rode a cloud and flew away. People looked up and saw a great mist, and then could not see where he was. During the years Dongfang Shuo was in the Han dynasty, the planet Jupiter was not visible in the sky.

《二十八宿山經注》曰：“歲星為四慧，出於奎、婁，則邦豐熟，和平。”《考靈耀》曰：“政失於春，負星滿偃，不居春常。”石氏曰：“歲星德也，人主之象；其角反動，乍小乍大，若色數變，人主有怒。”又《天官書》曰：“人主有憂。”巫咸曰：“歲星大其常，且賦斂不常，民飢。歲星小，民且多疾，牛馬疫死。”《天官書》曰：“歲星大，即為嘉。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星始出大，而日愈小者，所居之國耗。歲星始出小，而日愈大者，所居之國利。歲星行宿，大而明，內實，天下安寧；小而內虛，其國不安，主有憂。”

The "Commentary on the Twenty-Eight Mansions and Mountains" says that the planet Jupiter transforms into four comet-like rays, appearing in the mansion of Kuí and Lóu, which signifies that the state will have abundant harvests of the five grains and peace throughout the land. The "Kǎo Líng Yào" states that if the spring policies are improper, Jupiter will become restless, retreating and not staying in its usual position for spring. The Shi school says that Jupiter represents virtue and is the symbol of the sovereign; if its rays are abnormally trembling, fluctuating in size, or frequently changing color, the sovereign will have matters of anger. The "Records of the Grand Historian: Celestial Officials" says this indicates the sovereign has worries. Wu Xian says that if Jupiter appears larger than usual, it signifies that taxation and levies have no fixed rules, leading to people's hunger and hardship; if Jupiter appears smaller than usual, it signifies that the people suffer from many diseases, and cattle and horses die from plague. The "Celestial Officials" says that when Jupiter appears large, it is a good omen. The "Jingzhou Divination" says that if Jupiter first appears large and then becomes smaller each day, the country corresponding to its position will suffer losses; if Jupiter first appears small and then becomes larger each day, the country corresponding to its position will gain benefits. When Jupiter passes through the mansions, if its form is large and bright with a solid interior, the world will be at peace; if its form is small and the interior is hollow, the country corresponding to its position will be unstable, and the sovereign will have worries.

甘氏曰：“歲星流，主死，失地。”巫咸曰：“歲星沉浮，國亡，有土功爭；又曰有憂，沉，數日不見，國亡；乍見乍不見，國憂喪。”《天官書》曰：“歲星出，如浮而沉，其國有土功；如沉而浮，其野亡；浮者見之，沉者伏之。”《荊州占》曰：歲星變色，逆行，相凌而斗；舍合留；舍環守；其國無道。”

The Gan school says: When the star of years moves unpredictably, it indicates the death of the sovereign and the loss of territory by the state. Wu Xian says: When the star of years suddenly sinks and rises, it signifies the downfall of the state and disputes over construction projects; another interpretation suggests there will be calamity. If it sinks and remains unseen for several days, the state will perish; if it appears and disappears alternately, the state will face misfortune and deaths. The Records of the Grand Historian, in its section on celestial officials, states: When the star of years appears, seeming to rise and then sink, the state in its corresponding region will have construction activities; seeming to sink and then rise, the state in its corresponding region will perish—here, 'rising' refers to its appearance, and 'sinking' refers to its concealment. The Jingzhou Divination says: When the star of years changes color or moves retrograde, and conflicts with other stars, or when it stays together with other stars or circles around them within the same mansion, it indicates that the state in its corresponding region is ruled by an unjust and corrupt government.

《黃帝占》曰：“歲星生氣而為青穰者，明日大寒小雨；見此者，賁魚鹽貴，不出三旬。”《孝經內記》曰：“歲星生氣為青穰者，明日大寒小雨；見此者魚鹽大貴，不出三旬，皆可再倍；貴不過二十日止，所見之國，傷苗少實。天下有一歲十飢見者，不出其年，富民從其故鄉，王者不安，大臣坐事，不出二年，天下無布，練貴縑絮四倍，萬民大寒。”郗萌曰：“歲星出，穰長三尺；三日雨，若不雨，大霧。”甘氏曰：“歲星自暈，有喪。”

The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the star of years produces clouds and forms a green 'Rang Qi' (a vapor resembling that of a heap of grain), there will be a severe cold the next day along with light rain; seeing this celestial phenomenon, the prices of fish and salt will rise, and within thirty days it will come true. The Inner Record of the Book of Filial Piety says: When the star of years produces life qi and forms green Rang Qi, there will be severe cold and light rain the next day; seeing this celestial phenomenon, the prices of fish and salt will rise greatly, and within thirty days, the prices will double; this price increase will stop within twenty days. In the country corresponding to the area indicated by this phenomenon, the crops will be damaged and the harvest will be small. If the whole world experiences ten such signs of famine within a single year, within that year, the wealthy will leave their hometowns, the king will not be at peace, and ministers will be punished for their duties; within two years, there will be no cloth available, silk will rise in price, and the prices of fine silk and down will reach four times their original level, causing the common people to suffer from severe cold. Xi Meng says: When the star of years appears, the Rang Qi will be three feet long, and rain will fall within three days; if it does not rain, there will be heavy fog. The Gan school says: When the star of years produces its own halo, it indicates there will be mourning.

石氏曰：“歲星犯左角，天下之道皆不通；犯右角，天下王使絕滅。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星犯角，天下有兵，將相有憂；犯右角，右將憂。”石氏曰：“歲星入角，天下有兵；其行疾，六十日；行遲，百二十日，遠百八十日。”《黃帝占》曰：“歲星出中道，天下太平；出陽道，旱；出陰道，多雨。”陳卓曰：“歲星出陰道，多陰謀。”甘氏曰：“歲星逆行入角，人主出入不時，若有急事，千里之行；一曰女子多死。”《孝經右秘》曰：“歲星在角，天下大病。”

The Horn mansion is the first among the Seven Stars of the Eastern Blue Dragon. The two stars, Left Angle and Right Angle, resemble the heavenly gate. Its territory corresponds to the region of Zheng. The Shi school says: if the planet Jupiter invades the Left Angle, the roads throughout the world will be unpassable; if it invades the Right Angle, the envoys of the kings will be cut off. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: if Jupiter invades the Horn mansion, there will be warfare in the world, and ministers and generals will have worries; if it invades the Right Angle, the right general will have worries. The Shi school also says: if Jupiter enters the Horn mansion, there will be warfare in the world; if Jupiter moves quickly, the event will occur within sixty days; if it moves slowly, within one hundred and twenty days, and if it moves further, within one hundred and eighty days. The "Yellow Emperor's Divination" says: if Jupiter travels along the central path, the world will be peaceful; if it travels along the yang path (south of the Yellow Path), there will be drought; if it travels along the yin path (north of the Yellow Path), there will be much rain. Chen Zhuo says: if Jupiter travels along the yin path, there will be many secret plots. The Gan school says: if Jupiter retrogrades and enters the Horn mansion, the sovereign will have no fixed time for going out or returning, or there will be urgent matters requiring a journey of a thousand li; another interpretation says it indicates many female deaths. The "Xiaojing Youmi" says: if Jupiter stops in the Horn mansion, there will be a great plague in the world.

石氏曰：“歲星乘左角，法官誅；乘右角，大將軍死。”郗萌曰：“歲星乘左角，為旱；乘右角，為水，為兵。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星乘右角，為后族家，若將相有坐法死者。”郗萌曰：“歲星居角，歲大熟。”又占曰：“歲星守角，為中兵；留兩角間，關梁不通，軍有興國，延邊城，境不通。”石氏曰：“歲星出入，留舍角，角為天田，歲星來入守之，其國五穀大熟，絲綿為平民大樂；守之百日不下，國有兵。”

The Shi school says: When the planet Jupiter enters and stays in the Left Angle, officials in charge of law and punishment will be executed; when it enters and stays in the Right Angle, the general-in-chief will die. Xi Meng says: When Jupiter enters and stays in the Left Angle, it indicates drought; when it enters and stays in the Right Angle, it indicates flood and warfare. Another divination says: When Jupiter stays in the Angle, there will be military action within the capital; if it remains between the Left and Right Angles, then the passes and bridges will be blocked, the army will rise within the country, spreading to the border cities, and the communication at the borders will be cut off. The Shi school says: When Jupiter enters and stays in the Angle mansion, the star "Tian Tian" which is near the Angle mansion, which governs agriculture, will be affected. When Jupiter enters and stays in the Angle mansion, the country under its domain will have a great harvest of grain, the price of silk will be stable, and the people will be greatly at ease; if Jupiter stays for a hundred days without leaving, then there will be military conflicts in that country.

Another says: When the star of years stays at the left horn for seven days and departs in the morning, the country will have worries; if it departs by one foot and seven inches, the whole world will be united. The Gan school says: When the star of years stays at the horns, the king will pardon the people and appoint loyal ministers. The "Sea Divination" says: When the star of years stays at the left or right horns, if the star color is yellow or white, it indicates a small drought and the people will have mild epidemics; if it moves backward, drought will follow immediately; if it returns, rain will come quickly, and the grain price remains the same. Another divination says: When the star of years invades the left or right horns, moving backward indicates drought and the five grains will not be harvested. Another says: When the star of years stays at the horns, if it sometimes moves south and sometimes north, it is favorable for planting millet and millet.

Another divination says: If Jupiter stays near the Horn mansion and is to its north, there will be no harvest of grain. Another says: If Jupiter stays near the Horn mansion, government affairs will be urgent and there will be a journey of a thousand miles. Another says: If Jupiter stays near the Horn mansion, it indicates military affairs and will harm senior officials. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: If Jupiter stays near the Right Horn mansion, there will be a great decree of benevolence, expected to occur within eighty days. Another divination says: If Jupiter stays near the Right Horn mansion and is to its north, grain will be harvested only half; if it stays near the Left Horn mansion and is to its south, or if it stays near the Tian Tian star, there will be great floods, no harvest of grain, great famine, and people will eat people. The Shi school said: If Jupiter invades, overpowers, or stays near the Left Horn mansion for more than seven days, the whole country will be pardoned; if it stays near the Right Horn mansion, virtuous officials will be appointed, expected to occur within seventy days. 石氏曰：“歲星犯亢，天子之座則敗於君。又曰：歲星數入亢，其國疾疫。”巫咸曰：“歲星入亢歲有旱，絲綿貴；若守之三十日以上，有兵起，其年飢，人相食。”郗萌曰：“歲星入亢，行疾，國君受弔；有大飛蟲，驚動人心，期在百五十日。其行遲，至難期二百五十日中。又占曰：歲星逆行亢，其君不親政事，朝延多非其人。”石氏曰：“歲星經亢朝鄭，國有兵。”《春秋圖》曰：“歲星之亢，其年大熟，絲絮大貴。”

Wu Xian says: if Jupiter enters Kangle, there will be drought in that year and the price of silk will rise; if it stays for more than thirty days, there will be military conflict in that year, and there will be famine, with people eating people. Xi Meng says: if Jupiter enters Kangle, if it moves quickly, the king will receive condolences; there will also be a large number of flying insects that disturb people's minds, and this will occur within one hundred and fifty days. If it moves slowly, it will take up to two hundred and fifty days. Another divination says: if Jupiter moves backward through Kangle, the king will not personally manage state affairs, and there will be many incompetent officials in the court. The Shi school says: if Jupiter passes through Kangle and heads toward the territory of Zheng, there will be military conflict in that country. The Spring and Autumn Map says: if Jupiter reaches Kangle, there will be a great harvest in that year, and the price of silk will greatly increase.

郗萌曰：“歲星入亢，或東或西，去亢一尺若三尺，地大動，期戊己食時。”陳卓曰：“歲星乘亢右星，穀物滅左星，天下有奇令。又占曰：歲星舍亢，為歲小有水。”《黃帝占》曰：“歲星舍亢，南地動。”郗萌曰：“歲星出入留舍亢六十日，不下十月，有兵進來，守之，兵不用；國有名者死，退而守之，有客上來者，期十月。又占曰：歲星有留延中，為天下憂。”

Chen Zhuo said: When the star of years passes over the right star of the mansion of the neck, grain will be damaged; when it covers the left star, there will be extraordinary imperial edicts throughout the country. Another divination says: When the star of years stays in the mansion of the neck, there will be some water disasters in the year. The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the star of years stays in the mansion of the neck, there will be an earthquake in the south. Xi Meng said: When the star of years stays in the mansion of the neck for sixty days and remains there for more than ten months, there will be enemy invasions; if it stays still, military actions will not occur; there will be the death of a person of reputation in the country. If it retreats and then stays, there will be the arrival of a distant guest, and the time will be ten months. Another divination says: When the star of years lingers for a long time in the mansion of the neck, it is a worry for the whole country.

石氏曰：“歲星守亢，年大熟，天下有大令，國有忠臣；若守之去一尺七寸，星隕。又占曰：歲星守亢下，田豐魚十倍。又占曰：歲星過亢處，其南，其歲地動；處其東，狗生妖；處其北，米大貴，有多徙；處其西，馬生妖；守東，羊生妖若狗生妖也。又占曰：歲星守亢，有小兵。”

If the year star stays at the Neck mansion and then moves away by one foot seven inches, there will be a falling star. Another divination says: When the year star stays below the Neck mansion, the land will have a good harvest, and the fish catch will increase tenfold. Another says: When the year star passes over the Neck mansion and stops to its south, there will be an earthquake in that year; if it stops to its east, dogs will give birth to monsters; if it stops to its north, rice prices will rise sharply, and many people will migrate; if it stops to its west, horses will give birth to monsters; if it stays to the east, sheep or dogs will give birth to monsters. Another says: When the year star stays at the Neck mansion, there will be small-scale military conflicts.

《海中占》曰：“歲星守亢，為地動。又占曰：歲星守亢，王者有德令，禾稼熟。又曰封侯有小話，國君受弔，飛蟲六畜，生非其類，為妖；有小賊，民多流亡，期百五十日，若一年。又曰居亢，歲旱。”郗萌曰：“歲星守亢，天子大令，國用忠臣，其守七日以上至四十日，國徵大賢，王者更政號，期百五十日；一曰大赦，使行九州。”陳卓曰：“歲星犯天府，邊臣為亂。”郗萌曰：“歲星守亢左星，為瞧旱不生；一曰多蟲蝗；守右星，五穀以水傷敗；一曰大兵，百二十日。”又曰：“歲星守亢十日而去，國大豐，穰庫倉餘。”《黃帝占》曰：“歲星逆行，守亢，為中兵。”甘氏曰：“歲星犯守亢，逆行，失兵明色，王不用事。”

It also says that there will be minor disputes regarding the appointment of marquises, the king will receive condolences; insects and domestic animals will give birth to monstrous offspring, which are omens of evil; there will also be small groups of bandits, and many people will flee, the period is about one hundred and fifty days or one year. It also says that when the year star stays in the Neck mansion, there will be drought in that year. Xi Meng says: When the year star stays in the Neck mansion, the Son of Heaven issues a major decree, and the state appoints loyal ministers; if it stays for more than seven days up to forty days, the state will summon great virtuous men, the king will change laws and decrees, the period is about one hundred and fifty days; another interpretation says it indicates a general amnesty and envoys traveling through the nine provinces. Chen Zhuo says: When the year star invades the Treasury star and Command star, border officials will rebel. Xi Meng says: When the year star stays in the left star of the Neck mansion, it indicates severe drought and no growth of grass and trees; another interpretation says there will be much locusts; when it stays in the right star, the five grains will be flooded, another interpretation says there will be great military conflict, the period is about one hundred and twenty days. It also says: When the year star stays in the Neck mansion for ten days and then departs, the country will have a great harvest, and the granaries will have surplus grain. The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: When the year star moves retrograde and stays in the Neck mansion, there will be military conflict within the capital. Gan School says: When the year star invades, stays in the Neck mansion and moves retrograde, the signs of war and the color of the star will lose their brightness, the king will be unable to govern affairs.

石氏曰：“歲星犯氐，國無儲。”《荊州占》曰：“歲星犯氐左星，左中郎將誅死；犯右星，右中郎將誅死，皆期三年。”郗萌曰：“歲星入氐，不出其年，有赦。又占曰：歲星逆行氐，其君治宮室過制度。”《黃帝占》曰：“歲星之氐，其歲熟，賤人有病。”郗萌曰：“歲星乘氐之右星，天下有大水，大兵；乘氏之左星，天子有自將兵於野。”《海中占》曰：“歲星居氐，五穀以旱傷。”郗萌曰：“歲星處氐西，歲多飢傷；北，有小賊，貴人多徙，牛多死，其肉殺人，南，觀多死，民多寒熱疾。”

Another divination says: if the planet Jupiter moves retrograde in theRoot mansion, the ruler will build palaces exceeding the proper regulations. The "Yellow Emperor Divination" says: if the planet Jupiter reaches theRoot mansion, there will be a good harvest in that year, and the lowly people will suffer from illness. Xi Meng says: if the planet Jupiter overpowers the right star of theRoot mansion, there will be great floods and great military conflicts; if it overpowers the left star, the Son of Heaven will personally lead troops to campaign in the field. The "Sea Divination" says: if the planet Jupiter resides in theRoot mansion, the five grains will be damaged by drought. Xi Meng says: if the planet Jupiter stops west of theRoot mansion, there will be much famine and damage in that year; if it stops to the north, there will be small bandits, many noblemen will migrate, many cattle will die, and eating their meat will poison people; if it stops to the south, many palaces and towers will be destroyed, and many people will suffer from cold and fever diseases.

石氏曰：“歲星出入留舍氐者，天庫之星也；其國有急令，其歲則太平；還而守之，其國以兵致天下。又占曰：“歲星守氐，孽妾有喜者；或與月合在氐，而暈不出，四十日有千令。又占曰：歲星守氐，王者立后，期八十日。”甘氏曰：“歲星守氐，君有喜，若拜後，不出九十日；又曰皇后喜。”巫咸曰：“歲星守氐，國大飢，人民流亡。又占曰：歲星守氐，為民多疾病。”郗萌曰：“歲星守氐南，其年地動。又占曰：歲星守氐，逆行；其君不居其宮。”

The Shi school says: When the planet Jupiter enters, stays or leaves the mansion of Di, which is also the star of the celestial storehouse, the country under its domain will have urgent imperial edicts, and that year will be peaceful. If Jupiter returns to guard the mansion of Di again, the country will use military force to bring the world under its control. Another divination says: When Jupiter guards the mansion of Di, there will be good news from a concubine who is not the principal wife; or if Jupiter and the moon meet in the mansion of Di with a halo that does not dissipate, there will be major imperial edicts within forty days. Another says: When Jupiter guards the mansion of Di, the king will appoint a queen, and this will happen within eighty days. The Gan school says: When Jupiter guards the mansion of Di, the sovereign will have good fortune, or will appoint a queen, and this will occur within ninety days; it also says that the queen will have good news. Wu Xian says: When Jupiter guards the mansion of Di, the country will suffer a great famine and the people will flee. Another divination says: When Jupiter guards the mansion of Di, the people will suffer from many diseases. Xi Meng says: When Jupiter is located south of the mansion of Di, there will be an earthquake in that year. Another says: When Jupiter guards the mansion of Di and moves retrograde, the king will be unable to reside securely in his palace.

《荊州占》曰：“歲星守氐，諸侯人君有來入宮者，其行疾，期六十日；其行遲，百二十二日。”（案《宋書天文志》曰：宋後廢帝元徽三年十月丙戍，歲星入氐，五年七月，廢帝隕、安成王入纂皇統，後三年，齊受禪。）又占曰：“歲星守氐，為后夫人憂；謂東行反還，去兩星二尺，期一百二十日；去兩星一尺，期六十日；與兩星齊，期二十日；以赦解之。”陳卓曰：“歲星守氐，五穀蟲蝗，萬物不成。”《海中占》曰：“歲星守犯氐，成鉤已環繞之，其國飢，人君失時，政令不行。”。

If Jupiter moves quickly, the period is sixty days; if it moves slowly, the period is one hundred twenty-two days. (Original note: According to the "Astronomical Records" of the "Song History," in the third year of Yuanhui of the Later废帝 of the Song dynasty, on the day of Bingxu in the tenth lunar month, Jupiter entered the mansion of Di; in the seventh lunar month of the fifth year of Yuanhui, the Later废帝 was murdered, and the Prince Ancheng succeeded to the throne; after three years, the Xiao Qi dynasty accepted the mandate of heaven.) Another divination says: When Jupiter is stationed at Di, it indicates that there will be sorrow for the empress or the concubine. This refers to when Jupiter moves east and then turns back, being two chi away from the two stars of Di, the period is one hundred twenty days; one chi away, the period is sixty days; and when it aligns with the two stars, the period is twenty days; a general amnesty can resolve this. Chen Zhuo says: When Jupiter is stationed at the mansion of Di, grain and rice will be infested by insects and locusts, and all things will not mature. The "Sea Divination" says: When Jupiter is stationed and invades the mansion of Di, its path is curved like a hook and encircles it, causing famine in the territory corresponding to this mansion, the ruler loses the proper time for farming, and the government's policies cannot be implemented.
