The "He Che Tu" says: The star of司危 appears like the planet Tai Bai with an eye-like shape, and is regarded as a sign of disorder and misfortune; when it appears, it indicates the ruler losing his laws and order, and this will come to pass after eight years, with heroic men rising up, and the Son of Heaven losing his country due to unjust actions, while renowned ministers take over the virtue of the ruler. Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches: The Twelve Months

The Yellow River Chart says: the essence of the planet Mars disperses and transforms into the star "Tian Chan," which is an evil star. The Spring Annals Commentary says: when the planet Jupiter moves backward and leans toward the Northwest, after three months it produces the star "Tian Wan" (here, "Wan" refers to the same as "Chan," meaning again Tian Chan). Xie Meng says: when a star appears, white in color, thin in shape, and flickering frequently, it is called the Chan star, also known as the Zhan star. Sun Yan says: "Tian Chan" is another name for an evil star. (Original book note: The book Shizi says that a comet is the same as Tian Chan.) The Spring Annals Commentary · Qiantanba says: Tian Chan governs the time of severe punishment. Gan De says: when Tian Chan appears, it indicates a female ruler taking power; if the original star is seen, it indicates the king of the country himself taking power. Gan De also says: when Tian Chan appears in the Southwest direction, it can be several zhang long, with sharp ends on both sides, and after appearing, it will change its position. Wu Xian says: when Tian Chan appears, the country will have internal disorder.

Jing Fang said: When the star Tian Chan appears, people below it help each other to flee, leading to chaos and military disaster, resulting in vast tracts of land becoming barren, with no grass growing and bones lying scattered everywhere. (Original note: According to Ban Gu's "Book of Han · Astronomical Records," in the second year of Houyuan of Emperor Wen of Han, in the first lunar month on the day of Renyin, the star Tian Chan appeared in the southwest in the evening; later the Xiongnu invaded Shangjun and Yunzhong, and the Han court sent troops to defend the capital.) Xie Meng said: When the star Chan appears, military affairs immediately follow; if it appears in the east, the country may instead gain benefits, and this applies to each town and village. Ban Gu's "Book of Han · Astronomical Records" said: The appearance of the star Tian Chan indicates military disaster and mourning. The "He Tu" said: This is the essence of the Sun, corresponding to the southern region of the seven stars of the Bird constellation; whenever someone plots rebellion, or harbors rebellious thoughts, or commits cruelty, or the ruler neglects state affairs, the time of verification is calculated according to the previous divination methods. The Spring and Autumn Records of the Movement of the Stars says: when the spirit of the star Tianxuan of the Big Dipper disperses, it becomes the Five Disasters. The Spring and Autumn Concordance Diagram says: the green comet's spirit disperses to form the Five Disasters; it appears like the planet of Mercury (Chenxing), with a horn-like projection; this is due to the loss of virtue by the yang energy, hence the emergence of the horn. The term 'Five Disasters' refers to the division into five branches, thus it is regarded as a sign of destruction and ruin. (Commentary: Song Jun said that the Five Disasters refer to five divisions, meaning the comet's tail branches out into five branches from a single source.) The fulfillment period is nine years, during which wickedness arises; by the year three nine twenty-seven, great turmoil becomes uncontrollable.

The accounts from various scholars differ in color, some saying white, others saying red with a blue tinge, and in shape, some comparing it to Mercury, others to Jupiter. The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: Heavenly Dog is a variation resulting from the combination of the five stars' energies, appearing in the southwest, formed by the combination of metal and fire energies, and is called Heavenly Dog. Meng Kang says: Heavenly Dog is a star with a hairy appearance, with a short comet-like tail and a shape resembling a dog below it. (Original note: According to the Sanqin Records, to the west of Li Mountain there is a Bai Lu Plain. During the reign of King Ping of Zhou, a white deer appeared on this plain. On the plain there is a "Gou Jia" protecting the state of Qin. During the reign of King Xiang of Qin, a Heavenly Dog Jia fell down and guarded it for a long time. Whenever there were thieves, the Heavenly Dog would bark to protect it, so the entire fortress remained safe and secure.) Ge Hong's Baopuzi says: If a dark cloud resembling a cow or horse enters a military unit, this is called Heavenly Dog descending to feed on flesh and blood, and that military unit will certainly suffer defeat. (Original note: The Guangya says that Heavenly Dog is a kind of demon energy.) The Yellow River Chart says: Heavenly Dog presages scouts. The Spring and Autumn Wei says: Heavenly Dog presages the suppression of bandits. The Spring and Autumn Wei also says: When Heavenly Dog falls, five generals will move out simultaneously.

Shi Shen said: In the northwest there is a star, three zhang long, appearing due to the convergence of water qi and metal qi, named Heavenly Dog. (Original book note: The "Jingzhou Divination" says that in the northwest there are three stars, large and white, named Heavenly Dog; when they appear, there will be large-scale warfare, famine across the land, even to the point of cannibalism. According to Xin Shi's "Qin Zhou Ji", Qi Fu Han Gui was hunting in Kang Lang State and saw a red light in the sky,十多丈 long, falling directly into the mountains and rivers, turning the grass and trees red; those who could observe the qi said that this was Heavenly Dog descending. Later, he indeed defeated Lü Bao.) Shi Shen said: Where Heavenly Dog descends, there will certainly be a great battle, armies defeated, generals killed, corpses scattered everywhere, blood flowing like rivers, and Heavenly Dog comes to devour the flesh and blood. The fulfillment period is near one year, medium two years, far three years, and should be judged as auspicious or inauspicious according to the country where Heavenly Dog descends.

Xi Meng said: In the northwest there are three bright stars, appearing in the shape of the Star of brightness and prestige, called Heavenly Dog; where Heavenly Dog appears, there will be calamities of mutual devouring. Another account says: When the star Zhao Ming appears and falls, it becomes Heavenly Dog; where Heavenly Dog falls, great warfare will break out and rivers of blood will flow. Xi Meng also said: When a star appears, red and white in color with a glow, and falls, it is Heavenly Dog; the lower part is smaller, and at the small end there is a shape like a foot; where Heavenly Dog falls, there will certainly be rivers of blood and the country will change its dynasty.

According to the commentary in the original text: The "Shanhai Jing" says: "The Jinmen mountain has a red dog named Tian Gan, and where it descends, there will be warfare." Guo Pu's commentary says: "The "Zhou Shu" states that when Tian Gan descends, the land will collapse entirely, and the remaining light will fly into the sky as a meteor, dozens of zhang long, fast as wind, with the sound like thunder, and moving like lightning. During the rebellion of the Seven States of Wu and Chu, it passed through the plains of Liang state." The "Hongfan Wuxing Zhuan" says: "The armies of the Seven States fought in Liang territory, so Tian Gan first descended upon the camps of Liang state, to indicate a sign. Dogs are animals that guard enclosures, so the descent of Tian Gan is a warning to people to guard their enclosures and defend against enemies." Ban Gu's "Han Shu · Tianwen Zhi" says: "In the second year of Houyuan era of Emperor Wen of Han, August, Tian Gan descended upon the plains of Liang state; this year, Zhou Yin was executed for treason in the market of Chang'an. Later, Wu and Chu attacked Liang state, and King Liang defended it firmly, so the corpses lying in heaps and blood flowing was fulfilled here. In June of the seventh year of Houyuan era, Emperor Wen died."

Ban Gu's "Book of Han: Astronomical Records" states: In the first month of Dingwei in the first year of Dingping during the reign of Emperor Ai of Han, at sunrise, there was a white vapor attached to the sky, as wide as a piece of cloth and十多丈 long, moving toward the southwest, making a noise like thunder. It moved westward for an hour before stopping. This phenomenon is called the Heavenly Dog. The "Huangfan Five Phases Transmission" says: If the ruler's commands are not obeyed, there will be a calamity resembling a dog. In the fourth year, during the first, second, and third months, the people were disturbed, shouting and running around, passing on imperial orders to worship the Queen Mother of the West. The "Military Treatises" say: When two armies face each other, if the clouds take the shape of cattle or horses, with their heads low and tails high, this is called the Heavenly Dog, and one should not fight. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: If the Heavenly Dog invades the arc star, it indicates that the general will have a distant campaign, or that many noblemen will die.

Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches: The Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansions

The Yellow River Chart says: The essence of Tai Bai disperses and transforms into the demon star called "Tian Can." The Spring and Autumn Wai Jing says: Tian Can governs matters of greed and cruelty, meaning that those in power accumulate wealth without limit and harm the people.

The twenty-ninth day of the month is the day of the start of the month.

The Yellow River Chart says: The essence of Tai Bai dissipates and transforms into the star "Cu Qi," which is an evil star. The Yellow River Chart also says: When Cu Qi appears, calamity may occur at any time without a fixed period; once various anomalies have emerged, it is a sign that ministers may seize power. The Yellow River Chart further says: Cu Qi signifies tyranny and downfall; it is the essence of the Lesser Yin energy, belonging to the duties of the Grand Master of Military Affairs, corresponding to the celestial region of the White Tiger Seven Stars in the west. Whenever someone plots rebellion, or behaves rebelliously and tyrannically, endangering the people, or when the sovereign neglects the political orders to be implemented in autumn, the fulfillment period is calculated according to the previous divination methods, and the calamity will accordingly manifest.

A bent arrow appears thirty times.

The *Heavenly River Chart* says: When the spirit of the water star (anciently called "Chen Star") dissipates, it transforms into the "Wang Shi" star, a demon star. The *Jingzhou Divination* says: When the spirit of the filling star changes, it becomes Wang Shi. The *Chunqiu Yun Doushu* says: When the spirit of the Big Dipper's Tian Ji star (the "Ji Star") disperses, it becomes Wang Shi. The *Shuo Yuan* says: The Wang Shi star is produced when the five stars move ahead or lag behind. The *Hongfan Wuxing Zhuan* says: Wang Shi symbolizes a bow and arrow; wherever Wang Shi points, it is the common target of the people, a sign of destruction. Wu Xian says: Wang Shi appears like a large meteor, dark blue in color, winding like a snake, appearing to have hair and eyes, several zhang long, clinging to the sky.

The "Spring and Autumn Concordance Diagram" says: a crooked arrow indicates the beginning of rebellion. When black comet-like energy splits off, it becomes a crooked arrow.the so-called crooked arrow refers to a shooting star, which flows like water and moves like a snake. Because it contains light, it appears to have hair and eyes. The yin number corresponds to four, so its length is four zhang. Also, since water generates wood, when it becomes angry, it appears dark green and black. Since water can extinguish fire, its essence sinks downward, so it is taken as a sign of rebellion. Where it flows, the region it reaches will perish. These are omens concerning the Son of Heaven. The yin path is completed in six, so the fulfillment period is six years, while the brewing period lasts twenty-four years. The Son of Heaven perishes due to military calamity, and those who had secretly plotted and conspired take advantage of the situation to rise up.

The Shang Shu Yun Qi Shou says: when the country of the White Emperor is about to perish, a crooked arrow will shoot at the Three Stars Mansion. The Shang Shu Wei says: when a crooked arrow flows and falls, it is heaven shooting at the king. All these commentaries from various wei texts repeatedly regard a crooked arrow as a sign of regicide and rebellion: an arrow should be straight, but it is like a snake, winding and twisting, so it has always been considered an ominous sign of both ruler and minister losing their proper way. As for the examples given, such as King Jie of Xia and the White Emperor, they are used to confirm this celestial phenomenon by referring to former kings who caused the downfall of their countries.

The Spring and Autumn Writings say: When the country of the Yellow Emperor was about to perish, there was a bent arrow that fell downward to the ground, indicating that the world would perish due to warfare and the Son of Heaven would face calamity. The "Sayings of the States" says: When Qin Er Shi ascended the throne, a crooked arrow shone in the night. Xi Meng says: A crooked arrow pointing at the Three Stars mansion indicates the fall of the Qin dynasty; another interpretation says it signifies the death of an emperor. Ban Gu's "Book of Han: Records of Celestial Phenomena" says: The place where a crooked arrow strikes is the target of the people of the world's attack, which is a sign of destruction.

According to the "Celestial Officials" section of the "Book of Song," in the third year of Da Xing (i.e., the third year of Da Xing) of Emperor Yuan of Jin, on the fourth month, on the day of Renchen, a bent arrow star appeared between the mansion of Emptiness and the mansion of Rooftop, and disappeared between the mansion of Wings and the mansion of Chariot. In the third year of Yong Chang, Wang Dun led his troops from Jiangzhou and Jingzhou to attack the capital, and the imperial army failed to resist. Thus, General Zhou Jie, Chancellor Diao Xie, and General Dai Bi were killed, while General Liu Wei fled. In the fourth month, Xiangzhou Governor Qiao Tusheng and General Gan Zhuo were also executed. In the twelfth month of the leap year, Emperor Yuan died. A year later, Wang Dun himself was beheaded and displayed publicly. This was exactly the fulfillment of the bent arrow star's omen.

Ban Gu's "Book of Han: Astronomical Records" says: "Curved arrows flowing and falling indicate chaos and disorder in warfare." (Original commentary: According to the "Astronomical Records" in the "Book of Song," in June of the sixth year of Yuankang during the reign of Emperor Hui of the Jin dynasty, on a night there was a curved arrow in the area of the Big Dipper's handle, moving toward the southeast direction; afterwards, Prince Sima Lun killed Zhang Hua, deposed Lady Jia, claiming to be avenging the prince, then seized the throne, leading to great massacres. In the first year of Guangxi, in May, the curved arrow flowed toward the southwest and fell. At that time, Prince Sima Yue defeated Prince Hejian in the west, escorted the imperial carriage back to the capital, but soon afterwards arrested people like Miao Yun and He Han, acting with unrestrained ambition, despising the emperor. The whole country detested him; after his death, Shi Le burned his corpse.)

Ban Gu's "Book of Han: Astronomical Records" states that when Xiang Yu went to rescue Ju Lu, a bent arrow flowed westward and fell. The divination text says: wherever the bent arrow points, that is the target of the people of the world uniting to attack and shoot at, which is a sign of destruction. The world has nothing straighter than an arrow, yet now it moves like a snake, bending and not remaining straight, indicating that the person holding the arrow is not upright. This symbolizes Xiang Yu holding power but acting in disorder. Later, Xiang Yu indeed joined the feudal lords, killed the surrendered soldiers of the Qin army, and destroyed Xianyang.

In the summer of the Zhongping period of Emperor Ling of the Han dynasty, there was a red meteor, as red as fire, three or four feet long, rising from the star He Gu, entering the celestial market enclosure, and colliding with the star of the eunuchs. The color then turned white, and the length was two or three feet, with the tail curving twice. It lasted about the time of one meal before it disappeared. Its shape was very similar to a bent arrow. The divination text says: when a bent arrow falls and shoots, it indicates that it is aimed at the official department it collides with. Normally, an arrow should be straight, but now it is bent, meaning that the person who shoots the arrow is a wicked and unjust person. In the sixth year of Zhongping, General He Jin plotted to eliminate all the eunuchs. The eunuchs found out and killed He Jin in the palace. Both sides were destroyed, and the world thus fell into great chaos.
