A falling star violates the heavenly principles.
The *Jingzhou Divination* says: A falling star entering the "Heavenly Principle" prison, which is the place where the nobleman is confined, indicates that a high-ranking official of the rank of Grand Steward will be detained. If the falling star is green, it signifies trouble; if red, it means people will be executed during the time of the metal element's sharp and severe energy; if yellow or white, there will be no incident; if black, it is ominous. If a falling star shoots out from the middle of the Big Dipper's handle, it indicates the release of prisoners from the prison, which is also an affair under the jurisdiction of the Heavenly Principle star. The four stars of Heavenly Principle are located in the middle of the Big Dipper's handle, established by the Gan school as the central official, specifically governing the legal cases of the nobleman.
A falling star invades Xianchi.
The Yellow Emperor's Divination says: A shooting star emerging from Xianchi indicates military conflict in the direction it flies towards. Xianchi consists of three stars located among the Five Carriages, symbolizing water, grass, and fish ponds, hence it also presages water-related events. The Shi school's Star Classic states: A shooting star entering Xianchi signifies a great flood. Xi Meng says: If the planet of fortune stays in Xianchi and does not depart, it indicates the occurrence of mourning events.
A falling star invades the outer officials of the Gan school.
A falling star encounters the Weeping Star.
The Huangdi Divination says: When a falling star enters or leaves the 'Crying Star,' there will be mourning and weeping in human affairs. The two Crying Stars are located south of the Emptiness Mansion and are aligned with the Weeping Star, themselves symbolizing mourning. Therefore, this divination is concise and directly indicates crying.
A falling star violates the water symbol twice.
Xi Meng said: There was a large red-yellow meteor coming from the 'Water Palace', and the city it flew towards would suffer a great drought. Xi Meng also said: There was a large green meteor coming from the Water Palace, and the city it flew towards would suffer a great flood. The four stars of the Water Palace are located to the southwest of the Well Mansion, and they are the offices in charge of water control and dikes. Therefore, when the same star appears, it will either cause drought or flood, depending on the color.
A falling star invades the outer officials' region of Wu Xian.
A falling star enters the area of the long wall.
The "Imperial Inspection of Delight" says: A shooting star flies into the "Changyuan" formation, indicating that the Xiongnu troops will rise up and invade the Central Plains, causing the ruler to worry. The four stars of Changyuan are located west of Shaowei, symbolizing the boundary walls that distinguish inside from outside and monitor the movements of the four barbarian tribes. The "Jingzhou Divination" says: The planet star flies into Changyuan, indicating that the Xiongnu will raise an army.
A falling star invades the heavens and the abyss.
Xi Meng said: A large meteor appearing dark blue-black shooting from the "Heavenly Deep" indicates that the city it flies toward will experience great flooding; a large meteor appearing reddish-yellow shooting from the Heavenly Deep indicates that the city it flies toward will suffer great drought. The ten stars of the Heavenly Deep are located to the southeast of the Tortoise Star, governing irrigation and the storage and discharge of ditches and ponds. Therefore, the observation is about the water and drought conditions of a region.
A falling star enters the stable, three times.
Chen Zhuo said: When the star enters and exits the "Heavenly Stables," there will be disturbances and unrest throughout the country. The Heavenly Stables consist of ten stars located to the north of the Gated Path, which is the stable for the emperor's horses. It governs the transmission of messages and the use of carriages and horses. Therefore, when the star appears in and exits from this area, it indicates the swift movement of messenger horses and tremors in all directions.

Miscellaneous Star Divination
A star appears in the daytime.
The Gan school's Star Classic says: When stars and the Star of brightness and prestige appear together in the daytime, this star is called the "Woman's Marriage Star." It competes with the sun's light, symbolizing the decline of military strength and the rise of cultural governance, women taking power and the state flourishing. If this celestial phenomenon appears over cities, it portends death; if it appears over the countryside, it portends warfare. The book "Differentiating the End and Completeness" says: When stars are visible during the day, rainbows refuse to hide, ministers grow too powerful, and the sea loses its regular course. These are all signs that the ruler is indulging in women, drinking excessively, being lazy and neglecting duties, and only concerned with going out for pleasure. The Gan school's Star Classic also says: Bright stars that take away the sun's light indicate that a new ruler will be enthroned. The "Spring and Autumn Annals: Luxuriant Dew" records that King Wu of Zhou defeated the Shang dynasty and brought back two captives, asking them: "Is there any strange phenomenon in your country?" The two captives replied: "There is a strange phenomenon in our country; stars appear in the daytime."
The Gan school's Star Classic says: If stars appear in the daylight without cause, this is called "Queen's Star," and within three years there will be great floods or a female ruler taking over the state. Jing Fang says: If stars appear in the daylight, it indicates ministers harboring treacherous intentions, and the sovereign unable to discern clearly, leading ministers to manipulate affairs and alter policies arbitrarily. The Xiao Jing Eryong Tu says: If one star appears in the daylight, the virtuous ruler will lose his state and lose the way of governance; if it flees to the border regions, he will be captured. The Wei Shi Tu says: If one star appears in the daylight, the virtuous ruler will lose his state and his lineage will be cut off; once defeated, he will surely die. The Eryong Tu says: If two stars appear in the daylight, the empress will lose power and be executed; another interpretation is that the three ministers will lose control over punishment and reward, leading to disorder in governance and the state being attacked by the Qiang and Di tribes. It also says: There are people in the palace wearing white clothes secretly plotting deceit.
The sun represents the sovereign, while the stars represent ministers and subjects. When stars appear to rival the sun's brightness, it indicates matters involving ministers overpowering the sovereign or internal court interference. The more stars appear, the more serious the matter. The "Wei Shi Tu" states: when three stars are visible during the day, the sovereign will face national ruin, with Qiang people crossing borders and attempting to establish themselves as emperor. Another interpretation suggests ministers will suffer calamity, and their family line will be cut off. It also says: when the Sanxiu and Chenxiu constellations appear together, there will be war across the country, with two states attacking each other, resulting in rivers of blood. The "Xiao Jing Nei Ji" states: when three stars appear above and below the sun, outsiders plot assassination, and treachery occurs within the harem. It also says: when three stars appear to the left and right of the sun, ministers intend to assassinate the sovereign and conspire with generals. The "Ci Xiong Tu" states: when three stars are visible during the day, ministers will face great calamity, and high officials will be harmed by barbarian invaders. It also says: when four or even five stars are visible during the day, dukes and marquises will be killed by people from outside the country; another interpretation suggests the sovereign's younger brother will face death. The "Xiao Jing Nei Ji" states: when four stars appear above and below the sun, dukes and marquises plot military campaigns, and state affairs cause concern. The "Wei Shi Tu" states: when the Big Dipper is visible during the day, the sovereign will die, and the succession will be cut off.
The star is not visible twice.
Yang Quan's "Wuli Lun" says: All stars without a name appear sometimes and disappear sometimes, but the degrees of the twenty-eight constellations have regular patterns, so they are called "heng stars." The "Zuo Shi Chuan" records: On the night of the fifth day of the fourth month, Xinmao, of the seventh year of Lu Zhuanggong, the heng stars were not visible. The commentary in the original text says: "Heng" means constant, referring to the stars that are usually visible. Xinmao was the night of the fifth day of the fourth month, when the moonlight was still faint, and the sky was clear with no clouds. The sunlight had not yet completely disappeared because it was still early evening. The text then says "stars fell like rain during the night," where "like" is used as "and." Clouds appeared only at midnight, and the stars fell densely, like rain, indicating a large number. This is the way historians record unusual phenomena. The text says the event happened at midnight, but this was determined by the water clock.
The Three Transmissions and the Writings of the Mandate complement the passage from the seventh year of Duke Zhuang of Lu. The Transmission of the Left says: the non-visibility of the fixed stars is because the night is unusually bright; the falling of stars like rain means that meteors fall together with rain, where "xie" means together. The Transmission of the Guliang says: the constant stars symbolize the reigning monarch; their non-visibility indicates the absence of a ruler. The Transmission of the Gongyang says: the fixed stars are arranged in the four directions, helping Heaven to emit light, and they symbolize the feudal lords; their non-visibility signifies the betrayal of the feudal lords, who no longer support the sovereign or uphold the laws. The Spring and Autumn Writings say: the non-visibility of the fixed stars indicates the collapse of the Zhou dynasty's system, with the light of all stars falling and scattering. The Yundoushu says: the loss of virtue of the Lord of the East leads to the disappearance of the stars. The Luozhiji says: the non-visibility of the fixed stars signifies the demise of strict laws. The Zuzaoqi says: the absence of the stars means the loss of vital energy and brilliance, the downfall of the Son of Heaven, and the tyranny of the feudal lords.
Dong Zhongshu said: the constant stars are the Twenty-Eight Mansions, symbolizing the sovereign; the multitude of stars symbolize the common people. The disappearance of the mansions signifies the decline of the feudal lords. Xu Shen said: the multitude of stars symbolize the common people; if both the mansions and the multitude of stars disappear, it signifies the decline and collapse of the Central Plains. Zheng Xuan said: the constant stars refer to the mansions and their enclosures, which are exclusively the proper position of the Son of Heaven; the disappearance of the constant stars signifies the feudal lords overstepping the Son of Heaven's rites, laws, and regulations; furthermore, bright night skies symbolize the feudal lords' growing power and their impending dominance. The "Yellow River Chart Mansion Divination Chapter" said: when generals govern improperly and do not abide by the laws, the stars will disappear. The "Shang Shu Zhong Hou Zhen Chen" said: the brilliant starlight fades (the original text here is missing), the sovereign loses authority, and events such as exile, setbacks, and executions will follow. The common interpretation among Han scholars in explaining the classics was to associate the Twenty-Eight Mansions with the sovereign and the multitude of small stars with the common people. Therefore, the same image of "the constant stars disappearing" was interpreted by Dong Zhongshu, Xu Shen, and Zheng Xuan as the decline of the feudal lords, the collapse of the Central Plains, and the feudal lords overstepping the Son of Heaven's rites, respectively.
Star Divination: Three Stars
The "Lüshi Chunqiu" says: When the world is in extreme disorder, strange phenomena appear in the heavens, such as stars fighting. Ban Gu's "Hanshu · Tianwen Zhi" states: The planet Chen Xing, which is also known as the Water Star, meets and contends with other stars, leading to great chaos on earth. The term "star fighting" refers to two stars approaching closely and their light confronting each other as if in combat. Therefore, it is listed separately under the category of miscellaneous star omens.
All the stars are trembling in the four directions.
The "Hong Fan Tian Wen Xing Bian Zhan" records that during the Yuan Guang period of Emperor Wu of Han, all the stars in the sky were shaking. The emperor asked the official in charge of observing the stars. The star observer replied that the shaking of the stars was a sign of the people's hardship. Later, Emperor Wu launched military campaigns against the surrounding barbarian tribes, and the people indeed became exhausted by military service and warfare.

Song Jun said: The shape of Jing Star is large and hollow in the middle. Meng Kang said: The so-called Jing Star is a red square cloud connected with a blue square cloud. In the red cloud there are two yellow stars, and in the blue cloud there is one yellow star. When the three stars are together, it is called Jing Star. The original book's note says: According to the Records of Shu, in the first year of Jingyao, the later emperor of Shu reported that a star appeared, so the emperor pardoned all the people and changed the era name to Jingyao. The Book of Heavenly Officials says: When the sky is clear, the Jing Star appears. The Jing Star is the virtue star. Its shape has no fixed form, and it often appears in a country with virtue. The Book of Auspicious Responses says: The Jing Star is a big star, shaped like half a moon, appearing around the new moon and the last moon, helping the moon to shine. It also says: When the ruler shows virtue to the hidden people, it appears. It also says: The Jing Star is the essence of all stars, its light comes from the moon, appearing in the west. When the ruler does not give official positions to his close relatives, but lets the virtuous people hold office, the Jing Star appears to help the moon shine.
Ban Gu's "Book of Han: Astronomical Records" says: When the sky is clear, the bright star appears. The original commentary notes: Divination should be based on clear days within a period of sixty days; beyond this, the bright light disappears. The "Yellow River Chart" says: During the time of the Yellow Emperor, the bright star appeared in the Big Dipper. The "Shang Shu Zhong Hou Wu He Ji" says: The year before Yao ascended the throne, the bright star appeared in the Wings mansion, and the phoenix perched in the palace. Zheng Xuan made a commentary saying: "Jing" means great and bright; "Yi" is one of the seven constellations of the Southern Bird. He also said: When a ruler upholds virtue and is respectful, is wise and attentive to subtle matters, has clear thoughts, and governs the state appropriately, and uses benevolence to seek omens, the vital energy is harmonized, the heavens and earth are in perfect order, the Five Phases mutually generate and transform, then the bright star appears in the constellation of the Celestial Stem.
The "Hán Wén Jiā" says: When the king establishes the order of seniority and juniority properly, the Room Mansion and Heart Mansion display the image of virtue, and the star of virtue corresponds with them. The "Hé Chéng Tú" says: When the Son of Heaven is sincere and radiant, his great aspirations and efforts in cultivating virtue cause the bright star to appear. The original commentary notes: Song Jun said, "Fen" means great, and "kui" is equivalent to seeing. The "Lǐ Jī Mìng Zhēng" says: When the king establishes rites and music in accordance with the heavenly mind, the bright star appears. The "Gǎn Jīng Fú" says: When the virtue of the king moves heaven above, the bright star appears. The "Kǒng Yǎn Tú" says: When the Son of Heaven selects capable people, the bright star manifests in the sky. The "Chūn Qiū Wěi" says: The "Zhōu Tú Biàn Shū" states: A red bird carried a red book, which was presented to King Wen of Zhou in Feng邑 (here the text is missing), the Son of Heaven's sincerity and radiance attract spirits and employ reason (here the text is also missing), with a responsive heart and following reason to cultivate virtue, the bright star appears, and the luan and feng birds descend accordingly.
The Yuanmingbao says: When benevolence and righteousness prevail, virtuous talents and outstanding scholars become prominent and clear, and miraculous auspicious signs emerge, the bright star appears in the Three Stars mansion. The Ganshengfu says: In the time of Yao, harmonious qi was abundant, and it moved heaven above, so the bright star appeared. The Xiaojing Neishi says: When the Son of Heaven practices filial piety and virtue, the bright star appears. The Yuanshencui says: When a ruler's virtue reaches heaven, the bright star appears. The Bahu Tong says: The bright star is a large star, sometimes the moon is not visible, but the bright star is always visible, and people can use its light to work at night, which is very beneficial to the people. The Dingshi Ji says: In the time of Shun, the bright star appeared in the Room mansion. The Kuningtu says: When the supreme virtue is just beginning to sprout, yellow light surrounds the Big Dipper, and it must appear on the Wu day or Ji day, its light has nopointed rays, and long military campaigns do not need warfare, but once war is launched, no one dares to resist.
The so-called virtue star is not a fixed single star; wherever human affairs conform to propriety and heavenly phenomena are auspicious, the virtue star appears in the corresponding mansion. The mansion of Emptiness and the mansion of Rooftop are associated with ancestral temples and mourning rituals, the mansion of Encampment is related to building palaces and houses, the mansion of Ghosts is connected with sacrifices, the mansion of Minor Brightness is associated with virtuous men, and the three steps are related to the order of ranks. Therefore, the following passages match the system of rites with the mansions of stars. The "Containing the Literary Excellence" says: if the rites for palaces and houses are proper, the mansions of Emptiness and Rooftop will have virtue stars corresponding to them. It also says: if mourning is observed according to rites, the virtue star will appear in the mansions of Emptiness and Rooftop. The "Investigating the Mandate of Heaven" says: if the rites are properly implemented, the mansions of Emptiness and Rooftop will have virtue stars. The "Containing the Literary Excellence" also says: if the rites for palaces and houses are proper, the mansion of Encampment will have a virtue star corresponding to it. It also says: if mourning is observed according to rites, the virtue star will appear in the mansion of Ghosts. It also says: if the Son of Heaven is dignified and composed, and the feudal lords are grand and majestic, the star of Minor Brightness will show a virtue star. It also says: if the rites of burial are performed in accordance with the proper seasons, the three steps will be level and orderly, and the virtue star will appear between them.
The "Hán Wén Jiā" also states: When the Son of Heaven performs the sacrificial rites of the ancestral worship and the禘 (a special ancestral rite), and conducts the inspection tours with established regulations, evaluating achievements and demanding practical results, the systems within and outside the court are properly arranged, and the political affairs of the four directions are not delayed. The communication between the upper and lower levels is smooth, so the mountains and rivers will produce divine turtles and precious jewels, qilin will come to the royal gardens, and the six domesticated animals will flourish greatly. The stars in the celestial court will have the virtue stars corresponding to them. The original commentary notes: According to Shen Ying's "Qin Shu," in the sixth year of Fu Jian's Jianyuan reign in April, a large white star appeared in the celestial court, and those who observed the celestial phenomena considered it a sign of peace and prosperity. Therefore, a tower for observing the celestial phenomena was built on the left side of the palace. In the eleventh month of the same winter, the Former Qin subdued the Yan state and captured the Murong clan. The "Hán Wén Jiā" says: When the Son of Heaven performs the xiangshe and xiangyin rituals properly, it is called great virtue; the celestial court and the left and right angles will have great virtue stars corresponding to them. The "Hǎi Zhōng Zhàn" says: When the virtue star is stationed at the Jian star, the sovereign and ministers are clear and upright, the whole country returns to peace, and the five grains revive again.
Song Jun said: Hanyu is a auspicious star, its light resembles that of a comet. Although Hanyu appears similar to a comet, its essence is auspicious, completely different from a malevolent comet. The "Yuan Shen Qi" states: When heaven has joy, the Hanyu star shines its light.
The guest star is named and described in two parts.
The Huangdi Zhan says: The so-called guest stars include Zhou Bo, Laozi, Wang Peng Xu, Guo Huang, and Wen Xing, a total of five types, all belonging to guest stars. They traverse the twenty-eight star mansions, corresponding to the twelve states' territories; each is used to predict fortune or misfortune based on the country it is over and the star mansion it guards. It also says: Guest stars are large in form and yellow in color, with brilliant light, called Zhou Bo. When it appears in a country, that country will have military action, or mourning, or great famine, or people fleeing their homes. It also says: Guest stars are bright and large, white and pure, called Laozi. When it appears in a country, that country may have famine, danger, good events, evil events, joy, or anger; if it frequently appears, there will be great military conflict, the ruler will have worries, the king will issue a great amnesty to eliminate calamity, and the disaster will be resolved.
It is also said that the guest star appears as a mass of fluffy powder, light and drifting, known as the 'Wang Peng Xu' star. When this star appears, the country will have military actions, or there will be mourning events and gatherings in white clothes, and the state will suffer from famine and decline. The 'Jingzhou Divination' states that when the Wang Peng Xu star appears with a bluish color and flickering light, the country where it appears will experience untimely rain and drought, withered and dry land, no growth of grass and trees, failure of crops, and locust plagues. The 'Yellow Emperor Divination' says that when the guest star appears large in size, yellow and white in color, with a sharp tip at the top, it is called the 'Gu Huang' star. When this star appears, there will be great military conflicts, many domestic troubles, or floods and famine. The ruler dislikes this star, and people will suffer from many diseases.
It is also said that the guest star appears white in color and large in form, resembling something swaying as if blown by wind, and is called the 'Warm Star'. It often appears in the corners of the four directions. If it appears in the southeast, there will be warfare throughout the land, and generals will lead armies into the outskirts. If it appears in the northeast, there will be a sudden outbreak of warfare spanning thousands of li. The same applies if it appears in the northwest. If it appears in the southwest, a country will experience both military conflicts and funerals, or there may be a great flood, leading to famine among the people. The 'Shi Star Classic' states: if the Warm Star appears in the southeast, it indicates that a grand general will be subdued and unable to mobilize troops; if it appears in the northeast, there will be exposed corpses stretching for three thousand li; and the same is true if it appears in the west.

Wu Xian says: When a guest star enters a constellation, the middle palace, or the outer palace, one should determine the type of event based on the star's dwelling place and the name of the official; according to the direction it flies towards, determine the matter it seeks; the country corresponding to its position will suffer this calamity; according to the star dwelling it guards, determine the time of the event; according to the relationship of mutual control and mutual destruction among the Five Phases, determine who is the messenger.

The Yellow River Chart also says: A guest star enters the moon's orbit and loses its light, which signifies that someone will die along with the ruler in military disaster. It also says: A guest star flies into the moon, breaking or damaging the moon's body, which indicates that a minister will kill the ruler and domestic disorder will occur. The Luo Writing says: A guest star flies into the moon, indicating that the army will be defeated. It also says: A great star flies into the moon, indicating that a minister will kill the ruler.
The Luo Writing also says: If a guest star stops near the moon and appears clearly, the king will die within three years; even if he does not die, there will be calamities in the country. It also says: If a star appears within the moon's circle, the king will face troubles within this year. It also says: If a star enters the moon before the moon reaches the middle heaven, then the rebel in power will be in the east, and the ministers of literature will gain power while the military ministers will perish; if the star enters the moon after the moon has passed the middle heaven, then the rebel in power will be in the west, and the military ministers will gain power while the ministers of literature will perish. The moon is the essence of the Taiyin star, symbolizing the queen and high ministers. When a guest star enters the moon, it signifies an external force intruding into the court, so most of the interpretations from various schools focus on ministers deceiving the king and the Breaker General killing the general. The "Gaozong" says: when a star flies into the moon, there will be large-scale military conflicts. The "Hai Zhong Zhan" says: when a star flies into the moon, a country will engage in warfare and face calamity; another interpretation suggests that within three years, the power of the ministers will surpass that of the king. Jing Fang says: when a star flies into the moon, ministers will harm their king and seize his property. He also says: if there is a star within the moon's circle, there will be bandits in the country, and more stars mean more bandits. He also says: when a star flies into the moon, ministers will plot to attack the king, and the king's orders will not be carried out. The "Jingzhou Zhan" says: when a star flies into the moon's circle, that country will suffer a death. It also says: when a star flies into the moon, it indicates the army will be defeated and generals will be killed. It also says: when a large guest star flies into the moon, the moon loses its light, and the country will perish, with surrounding barbarian tribes invading within five or ten months. The Luo Writing explains that the four cardinal directions of the moon's circle are assigned to the four palaces of east, west, south, and north. Then, based on these directions, it determines which of the four families of the imperial relatives are guilty of treason. This is an old method used by Han people to verify surnames through star observation. The Luo Writing states: if a star is at the right angle of the moon, it indicates that the Qin and Ding families in the western palace are guilty. If a star is at the right angle of the moon, it indicates that the Dou and Song families in the eastern palace are guilty. If a star is above the moon, it indicates that the Deng and Sima families in the southern palace are guilty. If a star is below the moon, it indicates that the Zhao and Li families in the northern palace are guilty. If a star is at both angles of the moon, it indicates that the Liu family is guilty and will eventually fail. The Inner Record of the Book of Filial Piety states: if the moon is at the angle of the star, it indicates that ministers, eunuchs, servants, and women are secretly conspiring to cause harm. If two stars are at the angles of the moon, it indicates that ministers are conspiring with the king. If one star is within the moon's circle, it indicates that ministers are plotting with the king's concubines. If one star is below the moon, it indicates that the women in the palace are conspiring with officials.

The Yellow River Chart says: When a star appears on the dark side of the moon, a country near the sea will prevail; when a star appears below the moon, the two shining brightly and flashing at each other, the ruler will die and the people will suffer from famine. Jing Fang says: When a star is as bright as the moon, ministers will rebel, the people will criticize the sovereign, and the government's orders will not be carried out. The Gan school's Star Classic says: When a star eclipses the moon, the chancellor of that country will die. The Luo Writing says: When a star damages the moon's body, it indicates that those in lower positions will plot and surpass those in higher positions.

It also says: If a guest star fights with Jupiter, the powerful state will replace its prime minister within the year. Wu Xian says: If other stars remain near Jupiter, there will be calamity in the southern regions; another interpretation is that there will be calamity in cities and towns. The *Gan School Star Classic* says: If a star remains near Jupiter, the ruler will face troubles. The *Chunqiu Wei* says: When Jupiter combines with other stars and they fight, if Jupiter breaks the other star, the ruler will be restless; if the other star approaches and breaks Jupiter, the ruler will be in danger of being plotted against.

The Shi school's Star Classic says: the planet Mars, also called the Malefic of violence, when it combines with other stars and they fight, it indicates calamity. The Jingzhou Divination says: when Mars combines with other stars and they fight, there will be military campaigns throughout the land; when other stars break through Mars, calamity occurs; but when Mars breaks through other stars, it is only a matter of combination, and even if there are incidents, they will not result in great calamity. It also says: when Mars combines with other stars, they mutually oppress and fight, the closer the two stars are, the greater the disaster; the farther apart they are, the smaller the disaster.

The Gan school's Star Classic says: If a star flies into the constellation of Tai Bai, which is the planet Venus, a strong country will be destroyed by war. It also says: If a star flies into the constellation of Tai Bai, the Son of Heaven will attack the feudal lords, and soldiers and generals will die in battle. Xi Meng says: There is a type of star called 'Xuan Luan', which appears often near Tai Bai, at a distance of about three or four inches. When this star appears, the whole country will be in great disorder. Also, if a star comes from elsewhere and stops near Tai Bai, either staying there or moving back and forth, it is considered a sign of urgent matters. If Tai Bai and another star exceed the boundaries of the four directions, there will certainly be a great defeat. If Tai Bai meets another star, and Tai Bai retreats from it, it indicates that the commander of the army is timid; if the other star retreats from Tai Bai, it indicates that the military campaign will be successful.

The following passages discuss the phenomenon of a guest star "abiding" in the Horn mansion (Jiao Xu) or "guarding" it, meaning it remains stationary rather than passing through quickly. Chen Zhuo said: if a guest star remains in the Horn mansion, there will be disasters such as land collapse throughout the country. Xi Meng said: if a guest star enters the right horn, small people will hold power over military forces, causing widespread fear, though the war may start but not yet be launched. It also says: A red star staying between the two horns indicates military affairs, the country's gates to be closed; if the color is green, there will be major legal disputes; if the color is white, there will be people coming from the righteous path; if the color is yellow, there will be construction projects involving earth and wood; if the color is black, it is ominous, and the sovereign will suffer calamity.
